An Important Announcement from LOST University

Hello?  Anybody out there?  Hope everyone is well, and if anyone is reading this - welcome home!

I just received this email from LOST University, and thought it warranted a post.  Apparently our alma mater will be closing its doors on January 31:

"Dear LOST University Students and Alumni,

We have traveled through time together taking us to the end of your experience at LOST University. Due to budgetary restrictions, the cost of living and other variables, the Board of Regents has regretfully had to shut the doors on this prestigious academic institution on January 31, 2013. While LOST University will cease to exist as a physical institution, we strongly encourage you to continue on your journey of knowledge and human understanding. Whatever happened during your time here happened, and we hope that the memories we created together will live forever in your hearts and beyond.

If you have any other questions, please call us at 800-477-2811 Mondays 9:30am – 7:30pm, and Tuesdays – Fridays 9:30am – 6:30pm, Central Time.

Namaste
The LOST University Board of Regents"

The phone number appears to be that of Buena Vista Home Entertainment's Customer Relations line.

So, I guess that's that.  Kind of feels like the final nail in a coffin we thought was already buried, doesn't it?

If anyone's out there, what are you watching these days?

Everybody take care of yourselves.  Live together, die alone.

Namaste,
Melissa

One Year Later

Hello, Losties!

As Lost fans everywhere celebrate and mourn the one year anniversary of the Lost finale, I wanted to say hi, tell you all I was thinking of you, and let you all know that if anyone is still out there, I'm hoping that we find each other again some day - maybe next season.

In the meantime, take care of yourselves. We'll see you in another life, bruthas.

I also wanted to post a quick note - every now and then, I get a request from someone to post a blurb about their Lost-related article, book, video, etc and I just wanted to be perfectly honest about the fact that I rarely have the chance to get back to The Lost Community. If you send me something, I probably will not have the time to post it. Thank you for sharing your love of Lost with me and with the The Lost Community.

Peace and Namaste,
Melissa

The Lost Community Podcast Archive

Hey, everyone -

I've had several emails lately from people looking for an archive of previous Lost Community podcasts. The short answer to these requests is, "I don't know where they are!" Rest assured, I am trying to track them down. If anyone has any ideas, please shoot an email to thelostcommunity@gmail.com. I will keep you posted, and I will put something up here as soon as I locate them.

Peace and Namaste,
Melissa

Lost: Season 6 DVD News

Everyone getting over that post-Lost depression? If not, here's a little something to cheer you up. I just received this photo from the 12-minute featurette that will appear on Lost: Season 6 and Complete Series DVDs.

The new short is called "New Man in Charge" and it offers a look at what Hurley and Ben do as the new island overseers.

I know it's not much, but maybe it will help to ease the pain a little.

Housekeeping

Hi, everyone -

Now that we've all had some time to digest the finale, I wanted to share a couple of things that have been collecting in my inbox.

LostGrrl wanted me to let you know that the Lost Community Message Board has been deactivated (sorry, LostGrrl - I didn't get this up before the board came down). Thanks for all of your efforts to keep the message board going!

Also, Zort sent over some interesting stats right after the finale about our activities here. They were pretty fun, so I thought I'd pass them along:

Average comments per episode post - 465
Lowest - 5.13 -Some Like it Hoth - 168
Highest - 6.01 - LA X - 1212

Season 3 total - 12141
Season 4 total - 6012
Season 5 total - 5615
Season 6 total - 6936
Lastly, I received a press release from Click Communications regarding the release of Lost: The Complete Sixth and Final Season and Lost: The Complete Collection on DVD and Blu-ray on August 24. You can read it HERE. If I get anything else interesting, I'll pass it along!

The End - Series Finale

After six seasons, this is it. There is no description for tonight's finale, but I don't think there needs to be.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of you. You are an amazing group of people. This blog started in other, perhaps more capable hands, but I have been honored to take you through the last couple of seasons.

Thank you to David and Steve for your phenomenal podcast, and thank you to the crew over at LostArgs, especially Zort/Ian, for being such an incredible sister site.

Tonight, Lost comes to an end. However, I know that this will not be the end of this community, or of the friendships hatched from it. We have been a part of each others lives - some for a few months, and some for years. As with the Losties, we have seen births and deaths, life changes and simple pleasures. We have shared more than a television show - we have shared our lives.

The Lost Community will live on. I know it. In the meantime, Peace and Namaste.

- Melissa

Lost: The Pilot Enhanced

A man awakes in a jungle. He is bruised and bloody, and doesn’t know where he is. A yellow Labrador Retriever watches him from the trees, then suddenly runs off. He forces himself up and winces in pain, leaning against a tree. He checks his jacket pocket and finds a small bottle of vodka. Recognition of where he is begins to float across his face. He winces back the pain and begins to run through the trees, reaching a beautiful beach.

He hears sounds - people screaming. He wanders around a bend and finds what has brought him here - a plane crash, survivors in shock. A man trapped beneath wreckage. A woman not breathing. A pregnant woman screaming for help. He runs to help those he can, and rallies the others to help him. One of these strangers asks his name: “Jack.”

And so we began.

Tonight, Jack questions Locke's motives after he's asked to perform a tough task.

The Lost Community Announcements

Since all we get tonight is an encore of Ab Aeterno, I thought I'd take this opportunity to post a few odds and ends that have been making their way into my inbox.

Sr. Locke shared the following:
Following the example of The Lord of the Rings fans, who succeeded in getting the names of many fans around the world on the DVD credits as an extra, we hope to repeat that hit with Lost (with the release of the DVD/BluRay edition of the 6th season). In other words, we ask for the inclusion of the fan’s names that have dwelt in the Internet communities for the last amazing six years and who have been part of the Lost phenomenon. It’s clear that Lost wouldn’t have been the same without the community.
There’s a group in Facebook and a Twitter account to support and follow this initiative. And a website too.

A Lost fan named Andrew was able to get a glimpse of shooting a couple of weeks ago and shared this video.
DISCLAIMER: I haven't watched the clip, so I can't say how spoilery it is.

I received this e-mail
from an intern named Evan from Brown and Dutch Public Relations:
We are helping host a Lost Season Finale party in Los Angeles which will include giving away a remade VW Dharma van from Lost to one lucky fan. We are looking at Blogs and podcasts to help spread the word about our event and I was hoping to get your contact information so we can then update you with more information the closer the party arrives. I would appreciate a response whenever time allows. Thank you and have a great day.

I responded to his e-mail, so hopefully we'll hear more soon. In the meantime, Namaste!
