THE MAN FROM TALLAHASSEE - SEASON 3, EPISODE 13

only 3 hrs 45 min left to go here in Phoenix! The longest 3 hrs and 45 min of my life.
See the night owls after the show! (Poor Maven)

maven said...

Thanks, Scoutpost, for thinking of me. Am I the only one on West coast time? :(

Here's a repost from last thread:
FYI: Just got off the phone with a friend just back from Honolulu! At dinner one night they set right next to Dominic and Evangeline (in a long blond wig) and her parents! Tried to get a pic, but he kept ducking. Then later (after Dom and Evi left), in walks Sun (Yoon-jin) with a guy. WOW

Joseph Finchum said...

FOUR!!!!

Mind if I play through... lol

See you all after the show.

memphish said...

Maven, that is a fun story. It's getting all set for just over an hour from now! Woo-hoo!

I wonder if the wig came from the set. Did your friend say it was horrendous?

maven said...

Memphish: She said it was platinum blond and every obvious! LOL

memphish said...

Flashback hair of doom strikes again!

Anonymous said...

drive-by..............

can't stay on. good to see you all.

maven said...

Okay, everyone have a great time watching and commenting...I'll check in 11 pm PST, but I'm usually too tired to think straight to add my two cents and gut reactions! Probably play catchup tomorrow. This episode looks to be awesome!

memphish said...

The Just For Men hair color doesn't help either.

Beana said...

LOL!!! Just for men...

The episode just aired in Canada and I hear it's great! Can't wait for 10:00 EDT!

Kishia said...

Ready you guys?

Tim said...

OK.. who did Locke kill???

Kishia said...

You may have called it, all in his head.

Tim said...

Juliette throws less like a girl than Tom does.

memphish said...

Capcom, did your brain explode? It's more complicated than we thought. LMAO.

Kishia said...

They pay disability for depression? My whole generation's got it made.

memphish said...

Awesome opening. Depression, therapy, our boy Locke! Is his eye scar more prominent again, or am I just looking at him? And where the heck is Danielle?

Tess315 said...

Is it just in my area but does it sound garbled to you guys like an old tape?

Tim said...

Locke states the obvious :)

Psychosomatic??

memphish said...

Who was Locke talking to in the Previously on Lost about the Island making him whole? I don't remember him telling anyone that. Is it going to show him telling Walt?

Tim said...

Shoot... I seem to remember him telling that to someone. Was it when he was teaching Walt to throw the knives?

Tim said...

Aha. Locke kills the other lover!!

Kishia said...

Adam Seward
Peter Talbot
How bad could he be?
Locke is such a liar! KILL HIM OFF after we find out why he's in that chair.

Tess315 said...

I think he told Boone that about the island making him whole.

Tim said...

Aw yeah. We all knew that's what Locke was after – except Ben I guess.

memphish said...

Island Locke is good; good plan; Jack has a reason; wait 'til dark; split up.

Adam Seward said he was from Canada. Does this make his an Other like Ethan? And Adam was "special."

The Jack stuff is messing with my head!

Ben is so creepy good! Alex? The submarine! Okay, I was spoiled and knew that.

Darkaardvark said...

I really, really hope that Locke's dad is the original Sawyer.

This episode is shaping up nicely.

memphish said...

Thanks for the Boone thing. I didn't rewatch FI. Guess I should have.

Tim said...

I think they're setting us up to be suspicious of Jack... but I still just think he's being manipulated.

Tim said...

Is the man from Tallahassee... Locke's "father?"

Tess315 said...

Did Ben call Tom Richard?
Oh and I've noticed this before on closed captioning it calls Tom (Friendly) cracks me up.

Kishia said...

NAVY- Patchy's connection!

Tim said...

Did Ben call Tom Richard?

No, it looked like there was someone else in the room. Tom said he'd wait outside.

Kishia said...

We need screen shots of that rec room

Scoutpost said...

Ok I know you east coasters are watching right now, so I'm not stopping to read. Just wanted to say that I'm jealous that you all get to be on at the same time and talk while the epi is happening! Have fun!!!

Darkaardvark said...

Why do I feel like Jack's being lied to? The Others have no communication with the outside world "ever since the sky turned purple" and there's a very good chance that they can't actually leave the island.

But anyways, Jack's probably not leaving. If the submarine is there ticket out, then Locke seems pretty determined to blow up their way off the island.

memphish said...

There was too much in that segment to talk about and now the commercial with "Downtown" in it is playing.

Tim said...

Keesh - I agree about the rec room. I wonder if there's anything to be seen on that bulletin board.

memphish said...

DA, I'm even fearful that they were going to send out Jack and Juliet and take them out, but now Locke's going to be my hero if he takes out the sub.

Notice that they still call Jack by his last name though. He's definitely not one of them. And Ben's all better in a week? And they are going to send away their only 2 doctors that we know of?

Kishia said...

scratched into the pool table, "JJ Rules"

Kishia said...

Kishia said...

Giant Hampsters, I KNEW IT

Darkaardvark said...

Holy crap. If Benry just told the truth: Biggest answer given yet on Lost, ever.

memphish said...

You're in a wheelchair and I'm not! Oh Snap!

Tim said...

Really? I don't know, even if that's an answer, what the heck does it mean?

I love the move by Sayid with Alex.

memphish said...

It's the Hieronymous machine right?

memphish said...

The flashback is pre-Helen right? Locke is driving the VW, not the truck.

memphish said...

Why are Ben's walls covered with masks? I think that says a lot.

Tess315 said...

So where has Danielle wondered off to?

Tim said...

I feel like this is a meatier episode, time-wise. Short commercial breaks.

Darkaardvark said...

He wasn't paralyzed with Helen, and assumedly we're going to see him paralyzed in this flashback, so I'd say post-Helen.

Also, I have no clue about the stuff before. I'll have to re-watch it. I agree it raises more questions than answers, what I meant was that if he was telling the truth, then we at least a part of what lies at the root of explaining everything.

memphish said...

If Locke blows up Jack I'll never watch this show again! I'm warning you!

Tim said...

That hatch scene opening the submarine is pretty reminiscient to Locke going down the hatch the first time.

If Ben cared about him blowing up the sub, wouldn't he be doing something about it now?

Tess315 said...

Ben just set up Jack

Darkaardvark said...

Locke's dad's got McClutchen whisky! It's the new Numbers! It's everywhere!

Tim said...

There it is. Wow.

memphish said...

So I guess the injury is real. Mea culpa.

Tess315 said...

I was just going to say Lockes dad was conning him then out the window he goes.

Kat said...

I HATE LOCKE!!!! AHHHHHHHH

memphish said...

So Ben wanted the sub destroyed but he didn't want to be responsible for it and now he's got what he wants. Ben is my favorite character!

memphish said...

So Locke's dad killed Peter Talbott and tried to kill Locke? Like Sawyer he's a con man and a killer.

Tim said...

Dang. That Jeep commercial with the wolf just confused me more than Lost.

Kishia said...

No chance that was an accountant's building, right :-(

That is so SAWYER!

Tess315 said...

I was trying to figure out the whiskey thanks

megan said...

good lord that looked painful.

on another note, from earlier in the epi, did anyone else get a little teary when jack told kate "i'll come back here for you"? i had a bit of a moment.

i am really enjoying this episode! i feel like its SO much better than the last couple. =] also, haven't posted in a few weeks..glad to be back!

Kishia said...

Who is Richard?!

Tess315 said...

Richard is Mittleos

Tim said...

So "The Man from Tallahassee..." Still yet to be explained.

Tim said...

"The Man from Tallahassee!!!"

Kishia said...

HOLY @#$# WHAT THE CRAP IS GOING ON?!

Darkaardvark said...

Okay, if you listened to the podcast, you heard my email saying that this episode would be the climax of Locke's storyline.

[Locke Season 2]

I was WRONG.

[/Locke Season 2]

And the obligatory:

Nice ending. Real nice.

memphish said...

That episode rocked! And either Nikki or Paolo or both are dying early in the next episode! Yeah!

Kimber said...

oh come on don't you think it's the smoke monster? Hi Maven!

Tim said...

So... are we supposed to think that Locke's dad came out of the "box?"

Beana said...

WHOA!!!! I can't even talk right now.... Amazing Episode!

megan said...

i hope nikki and paulo bite the big one because they are USELESS. bleh.

Tess315 said...

So is his Dad there because that's what Locke wanted to be there or was he brought there?

memphish said...

EF, you can have my Apollo Bar.

There is apparently a huge stockpile of eyeliner on the island for Mr. Alpert. How cool was that? That Richard was Mr./Dr. Alpert.

megan said...

i'm so confused about the box haha. but this was such a great epi!!

megan said...

sayidsgirl..good question.
i got the feeling he was brought there? maybe..i dunno.

still so confused! i cannot wait for some GOOD answers.

Darkaardvark said...

"oh come on don't you think it's the smoke monster? Hi Maven!"

Theory of the moment: The smoke monster IS the box.

I still want to know why the heck Kate saw that darned horse. It really doesn't fit in with any of the other smoke monster vision/realities.

Tess315 said...

Kimber
That's what I was thinking when they were opening the door.

Tim said...

It's really amazing how they can reveal so much... without revealing anything at all.

memphish said...

Oh Megan, I was totally having a "this is just like Last of the Mohicans" moment with Jack and Kate. My poor little Jater heart was breaking and I loved how Jack said he wasn't with anyone. No Jacket people! This ends my shipper fangirl rant for the evening.

Anonymous said...

Dear writers of Lost:

Pick a direction and go with it already!! hahaha. j/k.

ummm.........anyone realize that Ben is the "bastehd" child of Whoopi Goldberg and Gollum???

The eyes (Gollum) and the LACK of EYEBROWS (Whoopi). YIKES!!!!!!!

anyway, off to my "cell".

later.

miss you all.

Tim said...

"I will find you!"

Except Jack needed to jump through a waterfall.

memphish said...

As for the box thing, I think Picsel was completely right back in our discussion about FBYE with the Hieronymous machine. Picsel, please post the link again. I don't want to search. The scientist was Galen Hieronymous and the basic idea is that whatever you thought of/wished for appeared in the machine.

Kimber said...

DA
if smokey can connect with losties and pull an image don't you think that Locke's dad bound and gagged would be locke's favorite image. Kate's horse just hasn't been explained yet.

Darkaardvark said...

You know what seems odd to me? P***o and N***i aren't even mentioned in the TV Guide summary or the trailer for their flashback episode. It's like their irrelevance IS their story. Or something.

memphish said...

There are waterfalls on the island for Jack to jump through. I vote Jack jumps through a waterfall next episode and drowns Nikki and Paolo in it. And yeah, someone dies finally. That's a sick sentiment, but come on people; I need help in TV Squad's Death Pool.

Tim said...

Isn't Kate from Iowa, or something like that? Good chance she had horses as a kid, or something along those lines, and that could be some important memory for her we just haven't seen yet.

memphish said...

Kate's horse = her freedom, from real dad (whose name I forget) and justice in the form of the marshall. The marshall told Kate just before he died "You don't look free to me." The horse on the island confirmed to Kate that she was indeed free.

Kimber said...

Memphish, I like that theory about Kate's horse.

memphish said...

Here's a link about the Hieronymous machine. Again, it was Picsel who first brought this to our attention. Way to go Picsel!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Wait, what?! That was so great, and I have no idea what it means.

BTW - memphish, I cracked up at your oh snap comment. Too funny!

Tim said...

Well maybe we should all pitch in and buy a Hieronymous machine :) It's only $600. Then we can see if this is legit or not...

memphish said...

I'll pitch in the contents of my coin container Tim. I want winning lottery numbers the next time Powerball = $300 million.

Melissa_Lossa said...

so, smokey is the machine? I like it!

But, Ben asked Alpert to get the man from Talahasee long before Locke saw him. I wonder what that means.

Tim said...

Maybe we can ask the Hieronymous machine to give us answers about lost :)

memphish said...

So Jack wants to see his father, so his father appears in Ben's closet and Ben lets him run loose around the island and lead Jack to water since Jack didn't die falling over the cliff. Is that what's happening? Or is what you wish for not contained in Ben's box? Is it only contained in Ben's box if that is what Ben is wishing for?

Oh, and I forgot to say earlier, Hi Chucklez3. I miss you. And where are you jgz350 and capcom?

Melissa_Lossa said...

experimentalfilm - that is just WRONG!

So, this is the second time that the person that Ben has needed most has just shown up at the right time. First Jack, now Locke. Maybe the island helps Others in mysterious ways?

memphish said...

EF, are you saying that Locke is Lucifer?

Darkaardvark said...

BEN: did it hurt ?
LOCKE: did what hurt ?
BEN: .. when you fell from heaven ?

I'll admit that I was thinking that too. Also, it reminded me of the time when Ben was out with Sawyer, and started quoting Of Mice and Men, "A man gets lonely, some times." That scene was going to get interesting. But then I realized he was quoting a book.

Also, I agree on the horse thing. That explains it adequately for me. I knew the significance of the horse in Kate's life, it just didn't seem to me to be big enough to warrant that being what she saw, but it makes sense now.

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - Ben asked Alpert to get Locke's father while Locke was still in his closet, so they must have been keeping him somewhere else. But where?

memphish said...

Melissa, I'd guess that Ben wished for a cure to his spinal tumor, and what happened, a plane with a spinal surgeon fell from the sky. Ben needed a way to keep everyone on the island without it being his autocratic decision and without breaking promises and Locke shows up with C4. Does the box give Ben visions too, because Jack wasn't In The Box (nor was Locke). I crack myself up some times.

Capcom said...

OH BABY!!!! No blood shooting out of my ears on this one! This ep was fantastic, even if Jack almost did say what I thought he would say, but it was more like that Kate would not be able to understand. I forget now exactly what he said.

ANYWAY, gosh tonight was awesome, the internet is going to be smokin' for the rest of the week!

Yeah, was not that too freaky that the commercial played "Downtown"?! :o) I gasped and laughed so hard, that I almost choked myself.

You're right Memphish! The Hieronymous machine, Picsel where are yoooooooooooooooou?!

I tell you, I am just blown away. Ben is totally my fave Other (I can't ditch Dezzy completely), I want to have his chiildren.I want to go to the island and be trained by him. I could rule the world.

Capcom said...

Seward.....Sawyer......could James have possibly heard the name wrong and thought it was Sawyer? We'll have to see.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Yeah, that must really tick Ben off. Locke wants to walk again, and as soon as he touches the island, he can. Ben wants a spinal surgeon and the island drops one down for him - on the other side of the island, with lots of other people and their issues. Talk about only helping those that help themselves.

Tim said...

Too many puns to make... Locke was in the closet... Ben... did it hurt... overload.

memphish said...

That's a cool idea Melissa that yes, you get what you want, but you get unintended consequences as well like the death of a number of your colleagues.

Melissa_Lossa said...

capcom - I thought the same thing about Sawyer. The names were really close and Sawyer was a little kid.

And for the record, I am right there with you on the whole Des issue. Yum. :)

Darkaardvark said...

In the Heroes universe, I want HRG to get on a plane to go find Claire. I want that plane to crash on the Losties' island. Right near the Barracks. I want the Others to come and drag HRG to Ben.

I want HRG and Ben to stare at each other, silently, with their best bad-guy glares, for five minutes. No dialog. Just HRG and Ben, being evil.

How awesome would that be?

Joseph Finchum said...

Okay so I got one out of 4 right on my theory for John Locke... His father was involved... lol

WoooooW!!! That was a really great episode. The secret they are all willing to die for is pinball... PINBALL I say...j/k

Juliet was the last recruit for the island.

Memphish,
I like your theory on Kate's horse. Mine has always been the same thing. That horse changes her direction from caught to free and in that episode she relized she was free and changed direction in character on the island.

so um yeah... Cooper is a mean mean man... lol

Melissa_Lossa said...

dolenore - good idea. Ben says "man from Tallahassee" and Locke thinks, "my dad was from Tallahassee...." Interesting.

I like the Nightcrawler sound effect with Smokey, too. :)

memphish said...

EF, it was the month he spent in New York. And the lack of pull up opportunities outside of the fish tank.

Here's the thing about Locke's dad -- it's been four years since Locke was paralyzed since he saw him. Does Locke's dad look the same? Crap, my head hurts when it comes to the box/the monster stuff.

Capcom said...

Too punny Tim! :-D

And ditto on the "Oh Snap" Memphish!

memphish said...

Ben knows exactly what buttons to push on everyone. How?

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - We know that Cooper disappeared after pushing Locke, but do we know for sure that Locke has not seen him since? The only post-wheelchair flashbacks we have seen were in walkabout, and he was in Australia for part of that.

Capcom said...

Was anyone besides me surprised when Mr.Racoon-Eyeliner stepped into the shot to release Locke from the handcuffs? Or did I miss him earlier? I sure didn't see that one coming.

Melissa_Lossa said...

capcom - I recognized him in Ben's bedroom, but only because I saw on spoilerfix that he was in this episode.

Unknown said...

my first thought from tonight -WTF
which is a big deal because i don't really ever have that reaction.

but that box hmmmm

is the box -smokey
or
is smokey the arm of the box?

memphish said...

Oh, you spoiled yourself Melissa. I didn't know Capcom. Someone here asked who's Richard and I didn't know the answer. By the way I much preferred his Luis on Suddenly Susan accent and lack of eyeliner.

Melissa_Lossa said...

So far, we have not seen any direct evidence that the Others know about Smokey. However, I'm convinced that Walt found a way to control Smokey (albeit imperfectly) and that's what the Others meant when they said that they got more than they bargained for with Walt. I'm interested to see how much they know.

Melissa_Lossa said...

I know, I know. It's just so hard to stay away from those spoilers!

memphish said...

What the heck was up with Danielle tonight? I'm sticking by my Danielle = Mrs. Bennett theory which works very nicely with Darkaardvark's Ben is equivalent to HRG theory. Danielle did something which required her expulsion from the group and taking Alex from her and they wiped her mind and implanted the story she told Sayid and that's why she hasn't seen the other things they've seen in the last few weeks. The Haitian keeps plucking memories from her mind.

Anonymous said...

Ok, wasn't the guy from Tennessee (I am assuming it was the guy who unlocked Locke) the photographer from Suddenly Susan, with Brooke Sheilds?? Brooke Shields was in Easter Egg Adventure, with Eli Wallach
Eli Wallach was in Mystic River with Kevin Bacon?

Melissa_Lossa said...

EF - ha, ha, yeah that would make for an awkward moment. I imagine a long silence, and then Locke goes, "Soooooo...... the Others are that way, huh?"

The interesting thing is though, while Locke appeared to be in control, Ben still had the upper hand.

memphish said...

Crap, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon and tied into Easter Eggs.

memphish said...

Danielle is the big wild card now. The Others have Jack, Juliet (who isn't really one of them because she really wanted to leave), Kate, Sayid, Locke, Locke's Dad--but they don't know about Danielle, and yeah! Sayid told Alex, sort of, about her mother.

Capcom said...

Oh, you cheated Melissa! :o) But thanks.

Good idea Dolenore! And so it all comes down to this. After Hanso, and his change of purpose, and the Hippie-Dippie-DI, and the stations, and the purge......all the island dwellers have left to put their hopes in is The Box? ((and Julliet)) I love it!

Now, if that really is Locke's father (or Cooper, if he was not really even Locke's dad) Ben would have had to send his hit squad out to find him immediately after finding out about Locke's cure and the Others looked up info on him. Since after the purple sky, they would not be able to retrieve him obviously. Or else it's just a Box manifestation. Ohmygosh. Good idea about that being how Locke would have liked to see his dad.....beaten to a pulp. Heh-heh, I wonder if Cooper got hit by a bus? :o)

memphish said...

Just dawned on me, let's say that Locke's dad is Sawyer, this not only gives Locke what he wants, but Sawyer what he wants too.

Melissa_Lossa said...

I didn't know about Locke's dad, thank god. Last season, I managed to ruin the Desmond in the hatch reveal with spoilers, and I was taping Lost the night that Micahel shot Ana and Libby and accidently turned the TV on too early - just in time to see the end. So, I'm trying to avoid MAJOR spoilers.

Joseph Finchum said...

Hey Memphish,

Don't forget that Richard Alpert was also the flying Batmanuel in the "Tick" series... lol

EF I noticed the tattoo as well. what was with that. it looked really fresh and red.

HRG vs. BEN stare off... I am so down with that.

memphish said...

Ded and EF, the tattoo thing has been resolved over on DarkUFO. They are Matthew Fox's arm art.

And Ded, are you sticking with foaming at the mouth Mikhail?

Melissa_Lossa said...

capcom - That's a great idea! Locke spent a lot of time with Ethan early on, so Ben might have realized that he had a connection that would need to be exploited. They research Locke's background, find his father and keep him on the island, just waiting for the right moment to bring him out. Then Ben can do his big reveal, making Locke think that the island brought his father there by magic.

Unknown said...

so what would you guys want to come from the box?
i would go for MacGyver

here is a thought. . .if those who have a special connection to the island are able to bring people and things( Ecos plane ) wouldn't you think that they would be the ones who are really in control. . .

Yeah ohhhh . . .what if Jacob has this power and ben wants to overthrow Jacob then he needs his own island whisperer - John

oh man . . .

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, it's getting late time for bed. I'll catch you all tomorrow!

Hello west coasters! :)

Good night!

Capcom said...

Right Experimental, that's what I'm thinking too about Danielle basically, and I'm sticking to that until they show something different. What I want to think is that Danielle was possibly a scientific expo recruit, and when the scientist recruits got to Islandville, she screwed up, got banished, but they kept Alex in Otherville. Over the years she just kind of got the story mixed up in her head, but she might start remembering correctly, if memories are triggered by being around Otherville and after seeing Alex. Did someone say that we are supposed to get some Danielle backstory this season?

Joseph Finchum said...

Mempish,
I have something else planned but it might take a bit to get it up... you'll like it though... I think... lol

memphish said...

Andy, that thing about Eko's plane. That's really blowing my mind because it was Boone and John that found it, not Eko. And then Sayid and Charlie saw it before Eko did. I need an Official Lost Podcast or hopefully a new Doc Jensen to figure out what I'm supposed to be thinking/asking now.

But here's the big thing. Most of these people want to go home right? Then why can't they get that?

And what the heck did Jack mean when he said the kids were safe?

The whole Jack, Jack and Kate thing were from another episode practically. Man I've got to watch that one again--tomorrow.

memphish said...

Ben had a star chart on the wall of his bedroom. I know people have been concerned about the stars we see in the sky since the Pilot. Maybe we'll get something on that tomorrow. The other main things in Ben's house were all the tribal masks and the photos of Alex as a youngster. There was also a painting of a woman. Did anyone see who that was? Was it Danielle?

Capcom said...

BTW, I like the theory about Walt and Smokey, and the Others being jealous and scared of him being able to manipulate Smokey or The Box.

I think that I remember seeing Jacks underarm tattoos a long time ago, but they weren't red yet, just the outline. Or, not. :o)

"Island Whisperer", too funny! But hey, a grain of truth, maybe that's what they were going for with Walty but he was too rebelious? Well, not like Locke isn't, but they can communicate more on an adult level with Locke. Ooooooooh, IloveitIloveitIloveit!

memphish said...

Here's the thing that is driving me crazy about Locke. Why is he preventing everyone else from leaving the island? You want to stay and walk, fine stay and walk, but let me go home. Why does Locke want to prevent Jack from leaving? Because he knows that Jack will rescue him and talk him into leaving like Jack was going to convince Michael to return back in The Hunting Party?

memphish said...

I agree about Walt and his ability to mess with whatever is going on, but why would Walt appear to Shannon instead of his dad? I guess you might argue he was appearing to Vincent. I love all DOG OF DOOM theories. Or maybe he just wasn't very good at it. He was aiming for Michael but kept getting Shannon. Don't know.

memphish said...

Was Locke's-dad-in-the-box (can I get one of those for my 2-year-old niece?) the mind blower that TPTB were talking about at ComiCon?

memphish said...

Okay people where are you?

Joseph Finchum said...

maybe it was a wierd domino effect. Walt tries to speak to his dad and Vincent, but the island being omniscient, sees Michael shoot Ana Lucia, who shot Shannon and is with Vincent and thats where he ends up.

memphish said...

EF, various people, not me because I'm not scientific, have been analyzing the shots we get of the stars to try and figure out where they are. There's even some talk that the stars may be the "big thing" that TPTB say we've been missing in the Pilot.

At this point I'd say where's the Teddy Bear constellation? But given that Ben has a chart, why aren't Karl and Alex using the correct constellation names?

Capcom said...

Ded, do you mean that Patchy McBubbles is going to leave us? :-(

BTW, could The Box (or a "to-go" portable version of it) have manifested the bus that killed Juliet's hubby? No, that would be too far-fetched. Otherwise, the DI could more easily change The Equation by just wishing the world's problems away. I wonder if The Box is a result of something they were trying for that very reason, for changing the Equation? Maybe along the lines of channeling people's thoughts to change the minds of people like Kruschev, Mao, Castro, and whomever else of the Cold War era. Like as in Remote Viewing? But it didn't work that way and they just ended up with a Box that manifested your personal dreams and wishes.

I know that we have a lot to process and understand this week, but if anyone feels like talking about what Jack meant by the kids being better off, that would be nice. That is, better off than on the sand-flea beach after the crash, or better off than they were in the world? I get the feeling that even though Jack wants to leave, he might think that Otherville isn't such a bad place to live, if you wanted to live there. Just thinkin'.

memphish said...

But Jack says the kids are safe. Safe from what? Smokey? Danielle? The Losties? The Fleas?

memphish said...

Capcom, I like your idea about the bus and that also goes back to Walt and the bird as well and maybe even Claire and her wreck with her mom who she wished were dead. Maybe what they wish for is a clean slate -- a tabula rasa for the world where they, the meek?, inherit the earth.

Capcom said...

What did they call the constellation, Theodorus Ursus or something like that? Now if they called it Theodorus Ursus Gigantus, then we could know that he was talking about the Big Dipper, and they are still somewhere that normal star charts could match up.

memphish said...

Do you think that the Others have told Jack what's really going on? I don't think so. Besides I don't think Jack would listen even if they tried to. He's all I know the answer even before you tell me (just like a certain husband I know). Why wouldn't he want to take the kids home? This really bugs me. If it were me in Jack's bargaining position, I wouldn't bargain for Juliet, I'd make a deal to take the kids back to their mom, even at my own expense.

memphish said...

Yeah, but what about the kids dolenore? And Frogurt? Where's Frogurt? I agree about the Losties we've come to know for the most part. But even Aaron. Would you want to raise a kid with no other kids ever?

yeah capcom

i think bens group tried to get
walt to use his power for them but either he's to young to either control all his power or to specifically hone it to do what they want. ie appearing to shannon

john to them provides a better opportunity to meet their needs.

Joseph Finchum said...

Memphish,
Didn't the mother die in "TO48"?

Capcom said...

Oooo, Memphish, I like that! Nice intertwining of events there. Wow, what if The Box WAS able to over-reach it's boundries and sometimes made things happen outside the island for peeps who had strong psychic minds? That might also explain why some of the mediocre/fake psychics sometimes got lucky and hit the mark?

memphish said...

Ded, I don't think their mother was on the plane. I think she was waiting for them in LA. I'll go check and get back.

I can't wait for the new avatar.

memphish said...

Ded, here's the relevant dialogue:

EMMA: Where's my mom?

ANA: I don't know.

EMMA: She's meeting us in Los Angeles.

Capcom, I like the tie in to the "psychics." Awesome. Maybe their power actually came from our Losties, not them.

memphish said...

How many times are we going to get Kate in handcuffs? 108?

memphish said...

Tom was helping Jack. Did you catch how he signalled to Jack that there were listening devices in the rec room which begs the question who is listening in. Ben? Jacob? Someone on or off the island? But then Jack doesn't just whisper in her ear the whole time which I totally would have done. Still don't get the whole Jack thing. Was he messed with? It didn't seem like it, but the kids are safe? That is driving me crazy.

Capcom said...

TPTB could cgi in any star pattern that they want. But if they put up something that was totally foreign to earthlings, that wouldn't tell us much (unless Fox Mulder could recognize the Zeta Reticuli system for us). And if TPTB put in something that is relatively around Fiji, that just confirms what we have guessed on their location after turning around. Unless they are at some extreme, like the South Pole. I wish that we could get more info on this also.

memphish said...

I think people have speculated that the star pattern is in fact not one you could see from a point on earth. That would make the people that think they are in space happy, or, and here's my newest thinking given the submarine, maybe they are beneath the ocean and there is a fake Truman show sky. In the fake Truman show sky you could put whatever you wanted, e.g. your favorite constellations independent of the seasons or the hemisphere. This is just my wild 11:30 pm rantings. Don't read anything more into it.

Capcom said...

Wow, right, I forgot about Tom's little signal to Jack about the walls having ears, that was cool. Jack seems to have totally won over Uncle Tommy, as long as we can take that on face value.

And I agree that Jack would not believe Ben if he told Jack about the Magic Box. Jack didn't even seem to believe the button pushing thing until the sky turned purple. He doesn't believe anything.

Capcom said...

I would totally love the fake Truman sky Memphish. And I would also love for one of the klieg-lights to fall out of the sky! :o)

memphish said...

So what are the big questions we want to discuss tomorrow other than Ded's new avatar?

1. Are the box, closet, Smokey the same thing?

2. Can Ben suggest to you what you want to be in the box the same way he suggests to you the actions he wants you to take (not pushing the button, blowing up the sub)?

3. Has Ben's method that has worked so successfully with Locke worked with anyone else? I guess it has. Jack operated on him and Kate had sex with Sawyer to make sure Jack would operate on him. Did Ben tell her to do that? She said she would do anything to save Sawyer's life which leaves my little Jater heart broken.

4. How much does Jack know?

5. In what way are the kids safe?

6. Now that the sub is gone, what will happen with the Flight 815 people--Jack who Ben was apparently finished with, Kate, Sayid, Locke--and also to Juliet who wanted to leave.

7. What the heck is up with Danielle.

That's all I've got for now. I'm sure I'm missing something.

Capcom said...

Good Qs to mull over for tomorrow.

Thanks for everyone's interesting input tonight! I seriously can hardly wait to get here after the eps. And thanks Admin for getting the new thread up so soon too.

I'm going to read Doc J's article now, since it is no longer a spoiler, and then go saw some proverbial logs till tomorrow.

Ciao till then LoCos! :o)

memphish said...

Without going back to reconfirm, I wrote down that Ben said something to Locke about his "dream coming true" before he showed him his father in the closet/box. But he also says before opening the door that the only person Locke figures he'll never see on the Island is his father. So does the box produce your dreams or your nightmares? And does Smokey produce the opposite? The more I think about it, I don't think Ben can control Smokey. Just a feeling, and as my psychosamatic (sp?) prediction earlier today proved, I am usually wrong.

Capcom said...

OK, I'm back, Doc calls P**lo, Poops-a-Lot-Paulo, so that's his name from now on....Sir Poopsalot!

Good Evening Loco's-

What is up memphish? Miss me?

Wow, what an incredible episode. I am still digesting this one. The exchanges between Ben and Locke where classic.

A couple of things I noticed:

The four candles or ornaments on the piano Jack was playing-

The numerous pictures of Alex in Ben's crib-

Why does the crazy french chick always vanish when it's time to engage-

There is alot more to the crazy french chick than meets the eye-

That Ben is a master manipulator-

I am so glad that I didn't spoil myself on this episode. I had the chance to, but I refrained. However, I was spoiled on how Locke ended up in the wheel chair.

Wow the infamous 'Box' thing can go so many ways. My brain is humming just trying to get it wrapped around TMFT. Vintage Lost no doubt. Oh and Locke's dad is no doubt our good friend smokey, just speculation on my part.

DiggityDirge said...

Hey all,

Glad to be back. The last few weeks haven't left a lot to talk about, so I've mostly been lurking. Going to catch up on comments while I watch the epi again, but my first observation goes back to something I said after the first couple episodes of the return.

Ben has orchastrated this thing to pefection and has anticipated and manipulated every move since his operation. Kate and Swayers escape, how to get Jack to help him get better, how to get Jack to operate. I still believe Juliett is in cahouts with Ben, never had any intention of leaving the island, and played along with the plan to kill Ben.

Ben is miles ahead of the rest of the losties and "his people."

Gonna catch up....be back later.

memphish said...

Guess I'm out of here too unless I get up later tonight to see what's going on which has happened before.

Jack was so teary tonight. No crying in the jungle, but crying in Othersville. Pretty close, huh? So Jack should totally hate Locke now after blowing up the submarine and Jack's chance to "fix" everything by rescuing everybody? I wonder how that's going to play out.

It's funny I wrote in my notes just before the we saw the MacCutcheon Scotch, where is The Man From Tallahassee that Ben asked for?

A girlie note--Juliet's makeup is terrible. Her face and her neck are completely different colors. As a pale blonde I can relate, but yuck! And after the beach last week, I'm not such a pale blonde.

Oh and David and Steve this one is for you -- Locke calls Ben a hypocrite, a Pharisee and then he claims to be more knowing which to me was a totally gnostic type of claim. I have a "higher" experience than yours. Make of that what you will.

memphish said...

Yeah jgz350 and diggitydirge. Glad to see you both. Great observations. I missed the number of candles because I was glad they had Jack playing the piano again. And Diggity, I totally agree. I would be slaughtered in a chess match against Ben. He is so many moves ahead I could not possibly catch up.

memphish said...

So Diggitydirge, do you think Ben intended for Juliet to kill Pickett then? Was that part of his master plan as well?

memphish said...

I cannot wait for more screencaps tomorrow. There are a few on DarkUFO now including A Brief History of Time in Ben's living room. I want to see the oil painting up close and to me it looks like there is a wedding photo in Ben's hall as well.

Joseph Finchum said...

Memphish --------------->

Okay not much left to say, and I am tired so its of to bed for me...
Night all

Joseph Finchum said...

Memphish I tend to go to Lost-media.com for screen caps. That is where I got this one from, and they are quick.

memphish said...

Ded,

I love it! It was worth the wait.

I'm going to hit F5 a couple of more times and then it's nighty-night for me too.

DiggityDirge said...

memphish said...

Damnit! Now I am going to have to start watching heroes so I can understand all of the heroes references people are using :)

Capcom said...

Back for one more. People keep saying that Ben is not "El Magnifico", but Ben is pretty danged smart, tricky and sly. Whomever "Him" is, will have to be downright god-like, to be better than Ben.

Great avi Ded! Yikes.

G'night all. :o)

memphish said...

Ded, I was just at Lost-Media. Yeah they are great. There's a Hindu god statue in Ben's living room. Some sort of elephant thing. I don't recognize the woman in the painting. She is holding something like a statue in her lap. There is definitely a wedding photo in the hall, but you can't make it out.

memphish said...

What if the "magnificent" man who recruited everyone to the Island was Alvar? Since 2001, right Ded?, Alvar has been missing, but Ben keeps everyone on the Island from knowing that. Ben has everyone thinking they answer to Alvar, but in fact he and TWM are now in charge.

Amused2bHere said...

OMG, that was a great hour of television. I am SO glad I didn't listen to the Official podcast or look at other spoilers. This was so juicy!

Locke blowing up the sub: AARGH! Dangit, John!

Locke being pushed out of the window. Shocking! His "father" needs to spend some quality time with Sayid and his magic tools...just for fun. What a creep! I just don't get why Locke kept covering for him. Not just this episode, but seriously: How codependent can one get?

I liked it when the nurse/Physical Therapist said to John "I don't want to hear about what you can't do". I guess John turns that into "don't tell me what I can't do!" later on. Nice...

I hope Alex now has a few things to think about. And goes to discuss them with Sayid.

memphish said...

Why can't they leave on that big boat they took from Island 1 to Island 2? If Desmond can sail around the world in the Elizabeth, what is wrong with that boat? I really don't get it. I think it has to do with dimensions either above the earth or below the seas.

Scoutpost said...

Gotta go back and catch up, but OH MY GOSH what an episode!!! So there to all the "fans" who gave up on LOST- boy are they missing out now.

Ok going to catch up.

memphish said...

But my last statement doesn't make sense because how do people crash there if they are in different dimensions, unless everyone really arrives via the box? Oh snap on myself! Off to bed on that note. Bet I don't sleep well. Catch you all in the am.

Joseph Finchum said...

Memphish,

That I believe is Vishnu the tusked elephant god.

Damn this adiction to LOST... night... lol

Amused2bHere said...

Maybe the "box" can't produce another sub, but can it produce spare parts for a sub, and an instruction manual? Heck, I've seen small subs used in bottom of the ocean research, not much bigger than a VW van! If they can get one of those in there...

Amused2bHere said...

nighty night, Memphish. Don't toss and turn too much!

Joseph Finchum said...

And The picture (I didn't see the painting) are of Alex groing up.

Looks like 6 - 9, 11- 12, and 13-16

Amused2bHere said...

Dedjezter, great new avatar. Falling Locke, LOL, you gotta love the look on his face.

almost as surprised when he saw dear old "dad" behind door number one. rofl

see ya'll in the mornin'!

Amused2bHere said...

I just had to do this:------>
I really thought Kate would have that "what the hey?" face on for the whole episode!

LOL

bluffscaler said...

Did anyone else catch Ben's refusal to answer the question about where the electricity comes from... or maybe he did answer it and there really are giant hamsters running in a wheel.

If you can imagine it, why not?

Black Swan said...

If the number of posts this ep has generated in a short time is any indication of how GREAT it was, well I guess it sure was!

Just want to write a few quick observations before going to bed..

Ben = big manipulator/con artist

Richard Alpert = one of Ben's employees

The "recruited" others are kept there by lies, promises, & threats if needed

I can see why the recruited others might be inclined to leave since all the "ammenities" of their camp are far from the brochure-perfect existence promised by Alpert when he is recruiting

Does John's "dad" have a part in the con on the island? (would explain him being there, conveniently) Same fancy scotch as Penny's dad - is Widmore also in on the con on the island? Jack & Claire's dad? sorry not making sense here except a new theory I'm working on..

The others don't know Danielle is still out there-could be that she helps them get back to the beach.

When John is eating chicken in Ben's house, Ben is looking at pictures of Alex when young and there's a clock - 3:25 (same number he gave Michael to follow to get out)

Why would Ben let the only surgeon leave the island?

John Locke's therapist says something about "don't tell me what you can't do", echoing Locke's saying

Is Locke's "dad" really his biological father?

Ben's eyes are creepy!!

I don't think the sub being blown up makes any difference to the people in power on the island

Memphish, I was also thinking of Alvar tonight. Will talk more tomorrow.

GOTTA GO TO BED!!

Black Swan said...

meant to say,
"echoing Locke's saying, "Don't tell me what I can't do!"

g'nite!

Scoutpost said...

Ok my first 2 comments about the episode are:
I nearly fell out of my chair when Ben started talking about the box- thinking back to the hieronymous info/convo we had. It has to figure in somehow, but how? I really like the direction this story is going.

2nd- Ben is the best creepy guy ever! Michael E. deserves an Emmy nod. HRG vs. Ben- good one.

Anyone else still around?

Scoutpost said...

Could the hieronymous theory and the universe course correcting itself work together? In other words, Locke wants to see his father again and he is there (hieronymous box), but maybe he is really there because through someone's time looping the universe corrected itself and Cooper ended up there? Does that even make sense?

Scoutpost said...

Yeah luckyguy- it's a lot to digest. I'm sure tomorrow we'll all have a lot to say.

Amused2bHere said...

hey, still here too. and on EDT as well, lucky.

hmm, hieronymous. Wonder why Charlie's mom used that for a middle name? She said he was "special"...maybe he came out of a wish box too.
;)
