«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 248 of 248Chuck,
No worries. I can't just sit here and lurk. I'm too addicted to posting periodically. And I'm sure I'll have a rant or two in me from time to time.
2costa,
Thank you for saying one thing that I didn't really get until just now: we know now that Desmond traveled back in time (wah!), but we still don't know whether or not the ring lady was real or some kind of hallucination (Desmond suggest this himself, and the ring lady avoids directly answering him).
Blueheron: I, too, am biting the proverbial bullet and am accepting the time travel storyline. But I'm not happy either! I like the mystery of LOST, and trying to figure it out. If they're throwing in pure science fiction, it takes all the mystery out. After listening to the ABC podcast, I guess I have to accept this and see where it leads us. TPTB, as usual, didn't tell us the whole truth and nothing but! I'm hoping we have some "wiggle room" here.
Chuck,
You've touched on a question that is just starting to formulate in my head: Everything we've seen in the show so far, are we seeing what happened BEFORE the time travel event, or what happened AFTER Desmond "rewrote history", or a mixture of both?
exactly.
maybe because of what's changing, ana lucia isn't dead!!!
heehee
work's done. gotta' run. talk to you guys in a while.
And another question:
After Desmond gets whacked with the bat in the SECOND timeline, what happened then? It couldn't have literally propelled him 8 years into the future and on to the island, right? Wouldn't everyone at the pub see him just disappear?
So, then, if he did not vanish, what did he do in the SECOND timeline from 1996 to 2004? The exact same things he did the FIRST time around?
I'm getting frustrated again. I'm going to have to get better at waiting for answers.
chucklez3 said maybe because of what's changing, ana lucia isn't dead!!! That would teach us all a lesson wouldn't it?
DesignerMama, thanks for the ideas. I'm glad you are excited about the time travel. Agree 2costa about Ms. Hawking not being explained. I'm sure TPTB have left themselves all the wiggle room they need to get wherever they are going. Don't forget to check out Doc Jensen's takes on Desmond over at EW.com today.
Yeah, Chuck, maybe everything we saw in Seasons 1 and 2 (up to the key turning moment) was from the FIRST timeline, and everything we've seen from the antarctic research station/Penny phone call scenes onward is from the SECOND timeline.
Yeah, who knows how much Desmond has changed things. Ana could be alive. Libby and Eko could be alive. Heck, maybe the plane didn't even crash in the same way that we saw. Heck, maybe the plane didn't even crash and the Losties arrived at the Island in a completely different way.
Now I don't even understand what I'm talking about. Back to lurk mode until tomorrow. Enjoy the show, all!
Oops, not Eko. He died this season.
ive been pinging LOST facts round in my head for a few minutes and i have a half-theory.
I think "The Incident" was the End of the world. The world should have already ended after the cuban missile crisis mentioned in the DHARMA orientation in TLE. Dharma was created to prevent the end of the world. Originally the cuban missile crisis ended with a nuclear war thus destroying all of humanity.
DHARMA who had already inhabited the island used the Valenzetti equation which predicts the end of the world to go back in time and edit the course. WHY does this need to be done every 108 minutes? because the valenzetti equation BEFORE "The Incident" would have been more than 108 minutes but the COURSE CORRECTS itself so the button was pushed as a way of accessing a Time Loop and changing the course back to the way DHARMA wants it. Thus stopping the end of humanity happening.
So that button accessed the time loop changed it back. and then begins countdown to the next time the course will correct itself.
Now im not sure how the Fail Safe key can be explained in this theory. Unless A)the Fail Safe key is the trigger to stopping the Time Loop of the world ending in the Cold War and is the trigger for it jumping into Time Loop #2. WHICH could mean the next time the World will end.
OR
B) The Fail Safe Key somehow turned the timeloop on itself which kept playing the loop of the button over again. which could inadvertidly make the LOSTIES Adam and Eve
(now this is pure making it up as i go) Desmond turned that key and so he somehow has control of the timeloop in which he has to save charlie because for some reason Charlie is important. Now you can argue whether it is Desmonds destiny to save Charlie or Charlies destiny to be saved. Either way charlie doesnt die because hes important.
Why is he important? the only reason he is important is because Charlies destiny is to save aaron (pure speculation) because aaron's destiny is to be the next person to save the world in one way or another (not too sure about this last part but still i think a good theory hehe)
Speculate upon this (as i know you will)
Way up there - picsel said...
if anybody is interested...
after removing "Desmond Hume" and "Penelope" from D.H.A.R.M.A
the letters left are:
arttfriticsARsarchnateriaAplications
Does anyone notice that the leftover letters almost spell something in itself (without scrambling them around)? Of course you do, everyone here is a frickin' genius...but it kinda looks like to me:
Artifacts
Research
Material
Applications
Just popped out at me....
thats because dharma =
Department of
Heuristics
And
Research on
Material
Applications
lol hehe so thats where the last 3 words come from
The "purple sky" was a result of the use of the failsafe key, which didn't occur prior to the flight 815 crash (the failsafe was not needed, because the terminal used to enter the numbers, discharge the EM buildup, and reset the timer hadn't been smashed to pieces yet by Locke).
The real question is why there wasn't more ground-shaking going on just before the purple sky event, as was shown in "Tale of Two Cities" last October.
The more we talk, the more reasonable a pregnant male field mouse is beginning to seem.
heck, I might be pregnant by the time i figure this crap out!!
hahaha
I'm checking out until just before airtime. Keep those theories coming. I'll see on the otha side brothas.
what do you think of my theory i posted a few minutes ago?
Oops, I'm checking out after giving picsel some feedback. Picsel, good work on thinking about it, but as for the mechanics, my head is still hurting with all this time travel, time looping, messing with the past and future stuff.
I have to say I agree with Jack Shephard way back in early Season 2 when he said (and I paraphrase) that this computer (and the plan of pushing a button every 108 minutes) is what's going to save the world? Come on. And I don't understand how the failsafe key changed things and if it would permanently solve the button pushing problem, why they didn't do it sooner (like in 1980.)
I also don't want Charlie to be important, unless it is his death that is important, because I picked him in the TV Squad Death Pool. If he dies tonight I get 19 points. And yes, it concerns me that I have such a callous regard for Charlie's life.
Now, I'm really checking out until later tonight.
well i think the reason (if my theory is correct) is that turning the failsafe key F#@!'s up the system because it puts the world onto TimeLoop number 2 without the computer to keep everything in the course DHARMA set it to.
The computer couldnt hvae been anywhere else in the world because of the Hieronymus effect the ISLAND itself has (see my earlier hieronymus theory). basically the island has its own specific frequency. its own entity. (what the guy rose went to see said she needed to find - the island) this entity controls something (timeloops?) is it a wormhole/ iside a wormhole?
anyway. This island has a frequency that the computer uses to affect the time loop of changing the course back every 108 minutes.
Turning the failsafe key. YES saves the world. but NOT indefinitely the world will still end but somewhere along the Second Time loop. No longer will it take 108 minutes because we are out of that loop now and onto a scond one. But the computer and pushing that damned button kept it onto Loop One. which indefinitely saves the world because we already know when the world will end on Loop One. but not on Loop 2.
is this too confusing?
what are you on about experimental?
EF: 732 is in central New Jersey. Where did you see that number?
whats the phone number for?
lol have you all been lurking? nobody says anything for ages then a flurry of comments lol
Picsel: I just check-in all the time! LOL
lol.
so whats the number for? somebody ring it ( i cant im in the UK )
if your bored pick at my theory i posted in 2 parts up there somewhere :):)
Happy Lost Day!
what? what about my number? 201-66.........hey, wait a minute!!
j/k.
desmons did jilt penny the first time by going on the race around the world and she still chased him...
picsel your theories are good but i dont know if they are right, in order to predict lost one has to think outside of the box, but because of that one is often wrong too. I remeber back in the day when i was saying that they wanted jack for his surgery skillz and they wanted sawyer and kate to mate i was not taken seriously
more musings...
What Desmond changed:
--he confronted Charlie with future knowledge
--he approached his friend Donovan, told him all about the island and the hatches, the button, etc.
--that means he didn't go home to Penny until later, but went to the pub first.
--he took the ring. Apparently that had not happened before. (Remember, he never actually bought the ring, she never answered him when he asked how much. She just let him keep it.)
--threw the ring in the water.
--warned the bartender to duck.
I wonder what fallout, if any, will come from these subtle changes to the timeline.
Just musing.
{{{{{{Big hug for Chuck}}}}}}}
i now think that it was a lucky coincidence that jack was on the plane, remeber he had to fight with oceanic to get on the plane, perhaps this is why they said sheppard wasnt even on jacobs list. because they were mainly after walt and claire. To go with my theory that they are conning desmond to think he has precog skillz, i remeber they were gonna do something with the lotto girl who pulled hurleys numbers, in this way i think they are doing the same thing to hurley and desmond. Making hurley think the numbers are cursed by manipulating events, mark my words the hurley desmond connection is strong, libby, both being oceanic employees in the locke vision...hmmm the way the producers got all into how hurley was prooly hurt that the others just wanted him to be a messanger boy...
2costa: no. what i mean is, he joined the military, committed to her (didn't marry her though), THEN........left for the trip around the world.
the new past, he never even committed. in fact, he "rejected" the idea of their relationship altogether.
jack wasn't on jacob's list, but doesn't mean he wasn't supposed to be on the flight. i think BEN somehow got the word out that he needed a surgeon such as jack and had someone from mittelos "recruit" him.
so, yeah........maybe not on jacob's list, but BEN wanted him, so it was still to be.
hey, 2costa, you may be on to something there. Jack really had to pull out all the stops to get him and the casket on that plane.
hmmm...if in the new timeline Penny is not pusuing Des, did she write the note and put it in his Dickens book? Did she go to the stadium that night he met Jack?
What else has changed? where are the ripples in time?
(temporal mechanics give me a headache)
Don't forget. Didn't we see BEN at the freakin airport????????/
Holy CRAP, i just remembered that!!!!!
trying to add an avatar...let's see
*claps*
YAY!!!!
congrats!!
well, it worked but you can't read it. oh well.
it says: "Sorry, I'm not here, I'm out, looking for myself. If I return before I get back, please hold me here until I get back"
found it on photobucket, made me think of Desmond!
thanks to you, Chucklez. I never could figure out how to get an avatar, but your explanation seemed simple enough.
many thanks!
you can read it a2bh. you click on the avatar, then click on it again when the profile pops up.
i read it.
hahahaha. cool. i wasn't sure if you went by what I said or not. coolness.
just viewed the DVD-rom that the NYPD sent me for my "pre-testing" date.
how do you like THIS avatar???
New post.
