A TALE OF TWO CITIES - SEASON 3, EPISODE 1

Here it is! The Lost Community's first official episode discussion thread has arrived. We would like to wish everyone a very happy "Lost Day". Have fun discussing the ins and outs of the most anticipated network premiere of the year. Keep an eye on this post, it will change as needed.

Concerning Spoilers: There has been much discussion and we wanted to let everyone know that we are entertaining ideas of how to handle advance information about upcoming episodes. We really hope that it will not be a major problem once the season gets rolling. However, we will be keeping a close watch on how things go from here and make changes as necessary. We don't want to rush into an unecessary decision so please be patient with us as we strive to do what's best for the community at large.

I agree with Twinkles assessment of the spoiler situation and use of the word "unwieldy". Time will tell.

We don't want this blog to be spoiler city and we also don't want it to be home of the crazy moderators. Hopefully, we'll all be able to kindly and patiently contribute to the BUILDING OF A CULTURE that is generally respectful spoiler free.

Now that we'll soon have an episode to talk about, we may generally be less obsessed with spoilers...at least until the first 6 episodes are complete.

Repost from last thread:
Hey, everybody! Long time no post! I've been on a blog vacation. I used w00t today in an e-mail. Just one more way TLE has changed me. I missed you guys and GALS! ;-)

Thrasher: The two posts idea - Can I check that I have your idea straight? By spoilers you mean information like from spoilerfix.com, but not details and information about the episode itself, right? An episode's post will be marked with the episode number, name, and the air date of the country it aired in so those from another country or who haven't seen the episode yet know to enter at their own risk. When an episode that aired in the US airs in Aus, then it will get a new post with a new air date, right? Are you thinking of creating two posts for every episode so that one is spoiler free and one isn't? Or is it just two posts for this first episode?

Personally, I think anything about a future episode like the stuff that spoilerfix.com posts doesn't belong on TLC. There are other places to talk about that. Otherwise maybe a section of the message board would work? I haven't read above to see how many want to discuss spoilers, so no offense if I'm going against the general consensus. The admins could also choose to create a new post if TV guide or EW comes out with a Lost article that contains spoilers so people would know to go there if they wanted to discuss them. Otherwise I think two posts for every episode would become unwieldy.

Sorry for the typos...I'm in an unfamiliar environment (I'm a guest in a very hot upstairs room at a stranger's house in Atlanta Georgia). I'll be in and out throughout the evening.

I've missed you guys and am glad to be back (intermittently until next week)

Twinkle said...

Oh, hi Admin! You already replied. Thanks! How was your first anniversary celebration!?

maven said...

Top Ten on LOST DAY! Yea!

Happy Anniversary again, Mr. and Mrs. Admin!

I have a feeling a great majority of us can self-police ourselves re spoilers...and it will be less and less of a problem as each episode airs.

The Penuels said...

Maven,

Glad to know you agree. I think, TOGETHER, we'll all figure it out as we go along. We're all friends and can communicate in an understanding and respectful manner and find an appropriate balance. "Self-policing" is the way to go...I hope.

All,

Thanks for asking about and celebrating my anniversary with me! Alli & I had a blast at a really nice lakehouse. We played on Sea-Doos and a Jeep Wrangler and rested A LOT. It was great. I'm at a conference in Atlanta right now but I'm glad to be back online with my Lost community of friends!

RyaNDrumZ said...

top 10!!!

maven said...

Kvonhard: I think the best way for us to handle this spoiler thing is to ask first if you're not sure whether or not it IS a spoiler. Links with an explanation to what you're linking to (contains possible spoilers, etc.) would be much better than actually quoting something or doing the "spoiler alert" thing that requires a lot of scrolling and maybe seeing or unintentional peeking. IMHO

maven said...

Hey, ryan! WE still have almost 5 1/2 hours left!

April and Eli said...

Geez, I go for a coffee break, and look what happens!

I am starting to like twinkle's idea. Plus, if we had separate links for every post, then it might not feel like such a community. Instead you'd have those on spoilers and those on non-spoilers. Twinkle's idea would keep the community feel.

Tess315 said...

This is such a nice place. No one yells or screams or calls names. You all try to work things out together with consideration. It's great.

For some reason I'm having trouble posting,it keeps bringing me back to my post.

So if I postthis more than once I apologize.

Maybe it's the tornado warnings in my area. (20 miles away)I hope my tv doesn't go out durng Lost

The Penuels said...

As the spoiler discussion continues...Will the message board provide a healthy outlet for those who are addicted to discussing spoilers?

I haven't looked at it a ton but does it (or could it) have a good place or method for discussing spoilers? If it does, problem solved. If someone posts something spoilerish - whoever catches it first can "self-police" and simply 1) direct them to the MB via a link 2) and ask them to repost and delete their comment.

Everyone has their own definition of "spoiler" we'll work on a universal one and post in in "Blog Commenting 101". This can also be shared with transgressors via a link.

In Reguards to the TLC PODCAST!!
Send me your short mp3 comments on this wednesday's episode of lost. Send the comments (or if you can't record mp3's, an e-mail which we may discuss) to passafistwastaken@gmail.com referring to anything about Wednesday's episode, or ongoing discussion in the comments. (I'm not going to set a time limit on audio files but if you can't say it in less than 5 minutes it's probably too much anyway)Please keep your comments PG- rated and I retain any rights to edit comments (for obscene content and to reduce any amount of redundancy)."

I'll be collecting comments until Saturday Morning. It's my hope that the podcast will edited and up on the tuesday before the next the episode. Make your post fun and interesting, cosider this more than just a run of the mill podcast, consider it a way for everybody in the TLC to get to know you. Don't forget to start your comments out with your name......

This is a big test! If this podcast is successful (meaning I get a bunch of comments, and it seems like everybody really is interested in continuing it) I'll probably continue to do it. If not no harm, no foul. WORD UP AND GOD BLESS!! NAMASTE!!

Thank YOu and Happy Watching Tonight

I can't wait either...I've been so excited all day. Gotta take a break for dinner with my hosts. I'll be back asap.

FYSB said...

Hey Admin....Glad to see you're around!

Message board could work. It would be a way to create an outlet for those who want to discuss spoilers. They can get it out of their systems without leaving the community.

I'm glad we seem to want to move toward a spoiler free culture. I don't think you have to become CrazyModeratorGuy; I do believe it will be helpful, as we move toward consensus, to post some guidelines upfront as to what is/is not spoiler. (and will save you time monitoring the board) My concern around allowing spoilers -even as links - is that gives an opening for a spoiler discussion and that will drive people away.

I suspect that as the season continues, our community will grow signficantly, much as it did over the summer. It will save a lot of frustration if we are clear upfront. Then we can help the new people based on a single set of guidelines.

Now let's get to work on getting Joop a walk on role this season!

Twinkle said...

I just found out that my husband didn't have Lost set to record. Doh! So glad we caught that in time!

Peace & Namaste!!!

maven said...

Admin: I think the message board is a good idea! There threads are labelled very specifically.

I'm hoping that some of us old timers/regulars/anal retentive-types will speak up when someone "accidentally" posts a spoiler and gently askthem to delete it or direct them to the message board. We don't want to alienate anybody and we do want to keep this the great community it is. The consensus is "spoiler-free zone" at TLC, and we'll all help make sure that continues.

There are pluses and minuses to whereever you live...but it's definitely a minus here on the westcoast today being 3 hours behind you eastcoasters in seeing LOST tonite! (It's even worse for UK and AUS!)

Caboose192 said...

One Hour and counting. The message board is a great idea for spoilers, plus a great board in general...just saying. I avoid spoilers like the plague, so haven't really been able to get too into the comments here lately. Anyway...1 MORE HOUR!

Amused2bHere said...

Howdy all! Less than an hour until LOST...omg, first the Mets take game one of the division series and now this...how much excitement can a girl take?

Maven: I love what you said about gently reminding each other about spoilers and the message board. "Gently" is the key word, and a big part of why we loved TLEC, and it should be thus in TLC too.

Twinkle said...

DeDJeZTeR is one of the guys who ran the message board last time and I think he said he would attempt porting it over (or something) for TLC.

Ange, do you know? Anyway, just wanted to let him know we appreciate his work. Thanks, DeDJeZTeR!

I'm not sure what you mean by the message board; so please correct me if I drop a spoiler...

I watch "live together, die alone" last night and realized that libby's husband name was david. could he have been one of the people hurley's accident killed? perhaps that's why he saw "Dave" as his alternate personality. just a thought.

the Minnow! They live in a resort community that have live shows of the retired Globe Trotters every Wednesday. If this has been mentioned before, please forgive me.

i will miss the name fenry

Chelsea . said...

He'll always be Fenry to me.

NobleLawyer said...

remember, they said the first 6 episodes would focus on the captured 3

we still don't knw who mr. friendley is.
and a suburban community in the middle of the island? i hate to nitpick, but that seems a bit farfetched.

at least we know
DI station 7 (at least i think its 7) is the hydra.

NobleLawyer said...

o.k gotta go pack

sean said...

now we can call him BENRY!

Chelsea . said...

sean - I agree. It had a bit too much of a Wisteria Lane feel.

sean said...

i dont know why i used the rachel blake font.

NobleLawyer said...

i think the way the others are so well provisioned that there are mutliple food drops on the island, perhaps and each of the main stations

sean said...

i just thought it was wierd. at first, i thought it was benry's flashback when he came out of that house.

but that plane crash sequence was awesome!

NobleLawyer said...

Sean - I repeat Roseaus' words
"are you on the same island I am?"

Becky said...

So, you liked it??

All on the same page, now! Will be DVRing tonight (going down to Waikiki) to see it again. At the screening, they didn't have: "Next time, on Lost..."

I'm wondering how there going to explain the whole suburban neighborhood in the middle of a jungle thing. Maybe if they were cabins or something it would fit better... I dunno. I guess this is what Walt ment when he said, "They're not who they say they are."

sean said...

i dont know where i am, noblelawyer. i just read my last comment, and not even i know what i was talking about.

FYSB said...

Dear God, what the heck are they doing to Kate?

"they really scratched ya"

and her wrists?

That is messed up.

And noble, he will always be fenry to me.

sean said...

so the others dont seem like warriors. they seem like husbands and housewives.

NobleLawyer said...

yeah, and that was obviously not the first time they had dealt with the pulse, since they had a drill for it.

Capcom said...

Happy Lost Day TLCers! Here we are again, one big happy family. Can't wait till our UK friends, etc., see the ep.

Noble; Bookclubgirl/Juliet was the wife in the movie "Frequency" (with black hair) and she played a helo pilot who got kicked out of the service on JAG. Can't remember her name offhand tho'.

As far as I'm concerned, Fenry is to Ben, as Mr.Beardy is to Hanso. Ever-always their nicknames. :-)

Passafist; too funny about '2 weeks' on the island going into S8 or 9. :-D

Looking forward to everyones' comments in the coming days.

sean said...

lostfanatic. i didnt even put that together. i didnt even realize the earthquake was the electromagnetic pulse.
it just seems really odd that while desmond and kelvin were having that fight in the middle of the jungle, on the same island, there was a book club meeting going on.

Chelsea . said...

I thought it was off island too, but I recognized the actress playing Juliet. I remember hearing that she played an other.. god, this show is so confusing.

GhettoGumby said...

I agree noblelawyer....

Anyone else feel like they are gonna torture/brainwash them and turn them into others?

Chelsea . said...

ghettogumby - Brainwashing is definitley a possibility, esp. with Kate. I wonder what their doing to her...

sean said...

juliet is elizabeth mitchell.

sean said...

i also thought that when jack asked sarah what her lover's name is, i thought it would be one of the hanso people.

GhettoGumby said...

Also...who was hoping to see an Apollo Bar in the episode? I know I was! Oh wells :(

sean said...

i didnt notice. did the suburban community have paved roads? if they did, they probably have cars there too.

NobleLawyer said...

i had an ex that did to me what Jack did

Thrasher76 said...

I was totally mind....ummmm... I think we are still keeping this forum clean, but you know what I mean!!! WHAO!!!! Going to bed now, chat with you all tomorrow morning!!!

Oh, yeah, BEN!!!!!

GhettoGumby said...

Locke - true, it did seem they were leaving them alone at the beginning. But that might have just been a recon period to feel out who they wanted/could brainwash.

NobleLawyer said...

no I didnt' see paved roads
it was small well built homes with well maintained lawns, but that was all that could be seen in back shot
but I am going to watch it again

sean said...

from now on, i will always call (fake) henry gale/ben: Benry.

Capcom said...

Maybe it's just me, but I thought that Sarah was pretty dang b*tchy to someone who had given her the ability to walk again. Sheesh. Jack kind of got the kidney-treatment that Locke got almost.

NobleLawyer said...

they left the fuselage alone for awhile until they kidnapped claire
they harrassed the tailies from the first night when they kidnapped the kids, some others, and tried tried to kidnapp Mr. ecko

sean said...

the whole ethan/goodwin thing happened kinda fast. going and infiltrating two different camps requires a lot of plan.
also, how did they plan who to kidnap?

Chelsea . said...

patrick - Oh! Thanks for reminding me. I have an American Express. I'll go check it out and let you guys know.

NobleLawyer said...

actually, not goodwin, bugt other others were the first ti be bad when they tried to take the tailies on the first or secon night on the island
the fuselage didn't get harrased except for the kidnapping and almost killing of charlie

Capcom said...

OK Sean, "Benry" it is, good call. :-D

NobleLawyer said...

but either way, from the fuselage or tailly perspective, the others were the first to strike.
If they were not up to no good, they would have just approached them nicely

Brussels Tales said...

ok, for those with American Express, can you tell us what the special things you can access are?

who is going to take care of Vincent now that Walt and Michael have left? that poor dog, his owners keep disappearing... ;-)

Chelsea . said...

I guess the American Express thing isn't going to be available until tomorrow. Let's hope it's something good!

NobleLawyer said...

they never wanted kate that is one of the reason theyu returned her. I think they took jack, kate and sawyer this time because they are leaders and they wanted to remove them from the losties as protection to themselves

Chelsea . said...

noblelawyer - If The Others wanted to take out the leaders, then why didn't they take Locke and Sayid?

Matt 2 of 3 said...

all i have to say is WOW!

glad it is back

sean said...

i wonder why they didnt take locke.

Capcom said...

Right Lockebox, I agree. Although when she said that now Jack had something to "fix" the first thing that I thought was, "well, he fixed you didn't he you ungrateful witch". :-P But people like Jack seem to forget that life is a balance, you can't put all your focus on one part of your life and neglect your family without consequences.

sean said...

"he FIXED you didn't he"

it's fixer!

engineer27 said...

We'll have to watch that again....

OK, who thinks that Kate's been "Compromised"? My theory--She's been sent back to carry out a mission for "Benry" regarding Sawyer.
Also -- Did anyone notice "Ms. Klugh" on the couch during the book club meeting?

engineer27 said...

capcom said...
people like Jack seem to forget that life is a balance, you can't put all your focus on one part of your life and neglect your family without consequences.

You mean like we put all our focus on Lost? &-^)

Chelsea . said...

Alright guys, I gotta get some work done. Uni just never lets up. Talk to you guys tomorrow :)

Capcom said...

You have a point Megan, maybe if they didn't portray Sara like that, we would have thought that Jack deserved to lose her since he neglected her.

Aside from the preborn Turniphead, were there any kids in the Fusie group? Seems like the Tailies had all the kids, so Goodwin kind of had the easier job. Ethan had less targets to work with, and somehow had to get Claire away without hurting her/Aaron. maybe that's why it took Ethan longer to complete his mission.

Capcom said...

Good point Engineer27! :-D

engineer27 said...

We'll have to watch closely to see how many people from the Other's camp at the end of Season 2 we can spot at Juliet's house!

FYSB said...

Ok, this is for the ol' TLECers...they did NOT use the same voice for the "We know who you are...Jack Shephard" in this broadcast as they did in the preview.

It was RACHEL before, and Juliet tonight.

*rachel's name brought to you in rachel font courtesy of apollo*

I'm just sayin'.

Brussels Tales said...

fysb - i noticed that too! think maybe sara's other man was Peter Thompson? ;-)

sean said...

i have to go. i enjoed the discussion.

Capcom said...

FYSB! I was thinking that too! I have to replay Juliet a few times to make sure, but wasn't the preview announcement kind of echo-ey? And Juliet did not sound like a speaker at all, just normal. Those TPTB! Jerkin' us around with red herrings again! :-)

******END SPOILER*******
thats all for now from Cam good nite every1 and I CANT WAIT FOR "The Glass Ballerina"!!!

Capcom said...

I wonder if we will see that jack eventually had regrets for not saving Shannon's father by blowing off his condition as too far gone, realizing it later. Say, he realizes that he actually picked Sara to save, just because she was a pretty female, or something to that effect. Maybe that's Jack's deep seated nagging conscience problem. Just a guess.

GhettoGumby said...

cam - I think that this season will HOPEFULLY maybe answer some of the questions of what happened to the original Dharma Initiative people on the island and how the current "others" are related to them. Be it direct survivors/decendants or new people planted by the Hanso foundation.

Capcom said...

Good call on remembering Benry asking for Steven King Cam794! I guess he figured that he might as well do a little bookclub homework, if he was going to be stuck in the closet for a while.

GhettoGumby said...

I agree kylelane. Just because he saved her life, doesnt mean he cant screw up the relationship later on. Its not like an unlimited get out of jail free card she has to be crushed by all the time.

The Penuels said...

Steven King
He is a HUGE fan of Lost. His reference in the book club was probably a big shout out.

Ben
I think 2 things about Ben (Benry...just for fun!):

1) There may be a romantic past between him and Juliet that is still fairly fresh.

2) His name must have some symbolism. My first thoughts. Benjamin from the Bible or Old Ben Kenobi. What do you think? Do either of these possibilities give us any foreshadowing or add depth to his character?

Love Triangle
Based on tonight's episode: Kate will "choose" Sawyer and Jack will fall for Juliet (or she will fall for him). Kate will get jealous.

That's all for now

Oh my God, "not my type" does not have to be "gay". Can't it be he's married/not into brunettes/ heyionlylike "good"people?

Okay - the 1st epi - worth it!

Best Line: "It only took the bears 2 hours." (bears? polar bears?)

Tale of Two Cities: maybe there a play off the opening line in the book "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."

What Stephan King book was that? I bet it was The Stand.

Just a few thoughts for now.

Oh yeah and has anyone brought up that a Hydra is a mythical beastie who when you cut it's head off more grow back?

I'm back...and omg what a great start to S3.

fysb: yeah my first thought was he must like chubby blonds, or (horrors) children. Or maybe Ana Lucia would have been more his type, the hot latina babe.

then again, maybe that's why they sent Hurley back...to protect him.

Dante, I think he said "host", meaning the person whose house it is where they are meeting. The meeting place must rotate among the members of the club.

There seems to be some animosity between Juliet and Ben, but I don't think they were married. They might be siblings, though.

Amused2bHere said...

so, anyone think that the file Juliet has is the "permanent file" that they always threatened you with in school?

That goes in your permanent record!

SHAZAM!!!!

Houmongus opener.

The Juliet don't know jack about Jack. That was justa stack of old book club reviews she hadin front of her. All she knew about Jack was squeezed outa Kate by old Ben after coffee. She ain't even a doctor, just playin' one to make Jack feel he's among friends. It worked.

What plans do they have for a Jack wit a squeeky kleen nogin'?

MMMMMMmmmmmm Darma grilled cheese....... *drool*

Ok- just now back from LOST premier party. Going to check the comments- can't wait to see what discussions have taken place.

All I can say is WOW, especially the first five minutes. Immediate feelings I got:

The Others are not DI

The Others almost seem too evil to be human-even Mittlewerk's evil plans were for the greater good

Jack is not as great as I thought

Jack's Dad, Christian, not as bad as I thought

Sawyer's the same ol' Sawyer

Kate may be in the most difficult position

Last but not least, I'm gonna want to watch that again.

Definitely that Carl guy was a plant: how did he know Sawyer was from a plane crash? And the apology after the escape attempt was part of the plan, to show Sawyer what happens to those who try to escape.

Too funny that Sawyer was in a Skinner box. I worked with one of those in Psych Lab, and my rat was named Pookie (after Garfield's teddy bear). Click the rod to turn on the light to press the bar to get a pellet.

Utopia? That would make this Walden 3? (please tell me someone knows who BF Skinner and Walden2 was)

Seriously sorry that I'm not reading the comments as much as I should... and not commenting as much either. Gathered people on my dorm floor to watch the episode (and get free homemade cookies)....

I've got two words for the ep though....

GAZEBO! BOOK CLUB!

(Yeah, that's three words. Shut up.)

And underwater hatch?!? Jack from Jay and Jack is gonna be happy.

Amused2bHere said...

phew, that's a relief. Wonder how long the Skinner reference will take to show up on Lostpedia...

I like the twist that they gave on Jack's dad. Maybe he's not the monster he's been made out to be after all.

Actually, you know what I just realized? Lost is a show that moves forward. Each season is a different series in itself. When I think "Why can't they go back to the days of mystery and suspense like in season 1", and I realize that the show that I knew to be season 1 was over. Season 2 was completely different...a show in itself. Season 3, I predict, will be radically new as well.

You see most series' seasons work by playing off one concept for every single season. See 24, House...etc. While the plot is different, the main "hook" is always the same.

Lost is different in that season 1's main premise and angle was the mystery and intrigue. That series ENDED. A new series began, with a completely different angle and hook. That was season 2.

Sometimes I wish that the series that was season 1 would go on longer, but i realize that it's over. It's sequel, season 2, was a completely new Lost. And now...well, we'll just see.

Us westcoasters are now starting to come online!

Wow...definitely worth the wait. Awesome first 5 minutes!

I think the Other's town gives the impression of an utopian society...one that doesn't want any outsiders in. These others can possibly be descendents of the original DI scientists (who have not been seen in 30 years). They originated from the 70's "hippy" philosophies, trying to create a perfect world. That awesome opening shot of the "island" as the plane goes down...seems like Othertown is southeast of the crash area.

I think Kate has been compromised by Ben. She seems to have put up a struggle (hence the handcuff marks). Did she give up info on Jack? How much did she know about his relationship with Sara anyway? Do the Others have access to the outside world to get info on everyone? How modern are the tasers they used on Sawyer? The Stephen King book in the opening is pretty recent also. Did we see Sawyer with a bandaid like Kate and Jack? Was it a vaccine or was blood taken? So I guess Jack has some real issues with daddy...he actually was the cause of Christian starting his drinking and downward spiral that led to his death.

These are just questions that are popping in my head...TPTB always leave us guessing!

Mountain girl: Yeah, Sawyer thought he was so cool figuring out how to get the food! "The bears did it in 2 hours!" Great line! Yummy fish biscuits!

Anyone guess who Carl was? Was he one of the kids the Others took from the tailies? Or an actual Other who needs to be reprogrammed?

wow....just finsihed watching the epi about 3 times. Gotta love Tivo.

I think we are getting setup for some pretty good stuff in the coming weeks. Seems they are trying to break Jack down. I see the others trying to rub Sawyer and Kate in his face down the road. I was so stoked to finally see the zoo, or the famed underwater hatch if it is truly underwater.

Anyway, was a little bummed there were no action with Desmond, Locke, Ecko, or Hurley.

Next week should be good.

Tapdawg,

Love the question "is Tom gay." Priceless man.

maven said...

Ben and Juliet are both pretty creepy! When she says: It doesn't matter who we were, it's who we are (or something like that)...gave me the shivers! The Others all talk so calmly and spooky. I think they are all playing mindgames with Kate/Jack/Sawyer. They want to break them...but for what purposes? I think Jack's escape attempt was almost preplanned by Ben and Juliet...makes him realize how futile escaping is if he sees he's underwater. He definitely seems like a broken man at the end of the episode. Though, I still the Sawyerisms...he doesn't let anything get to him!

Love it, love it, love it!

maven said...

Hey, tapdawg: A lot of your thoughts re the episode were my thoughts, too! (Except is Mr. Friendly gay? I just though he might like blonds. LOL) I do think Othertown is an utopian-like society. Ben and Juliet were super-creepy. Carl could have been a tailie. I guess they have high-speed wi-fi on the island!

DiggityDirge said...

anyone else wonder about this:

The "others" are supposed to be good people. When Jack floods the hatch, Ben locks Juliet in with Jack to drown or survive. (I'm sure he new they'd survive. I don't think they are under water. Juliett was on land to catch Sawyer way too fast.)

At the end of the episode, Ben commends Juliett for her work. She replied quite rudely thanks.

Also, in the beginning during the book club scene, there seemed to be some decension from Juliett when the other "other" (love it) brought up that Ben wouldn't attend. Seemed to imply she disagrees with his thinking. Also, Ben seemed disappointed he was out of the club.

Anyway, I just wondered if Juliett questions Ben's goodness after his actions. Or it could all be a setup.

Did anyone get the website for the American Express site?

Amused2bHere said...

n.i.k.: I loved the part with the lollypops. Tried it with my own kids, doesn't work!

Speaking of Utopia, what "goods" can they produce in their Utopia to trade or barter with for those things they can't grow/manufacture? Someone has to fix what breaks, and sometimes parts can't be fixed, you gotta replace. Therefore each Utopia can't be completely cut off; even the Amish need to go to town once in a while.

DiggityDirge said...

Here's my predictions for next five weeks/season without reading any spoilers or press releases. Just the preview at the end of the epi, and the LOST video cast from Damon and Carlton. I will spoiler anyway incase people don't want to read.

******

*Possible Spoilers
*
*
**Possible Spoilers

*
1. Kate chooses Sawyer over Jack. Henry/Ben began to implant the thought in the beach scene and it seems the others are going put Kate and Sawyer together, but leave Jack alone.

2. The others use this as ammo against Jack for a purpose. Not sure what the offer is going to be, but it seems the others are going to ask Jack for something and possibly use Kate and Sawyer, their relationship, or his past against him.

3. Jack & Juliett fall in love. For real not a spy mission for Juliett. Names have always been important in LOST, and I cannot belive a name like Juliett is not going to be significant. I am no shakespear expert but Romeo's one true love had to be used for reason.

4. Juliett helps Jack escape.

5. At some point this season, Danielle will be revealed as one of the "others." Just seems so strange to me she has never found the others village, and always has the illusion of being an island desolate like the other costumes.

Scoutpost, I'm glad you're feeling better!

Too bad you weren't with a "game crowd". It really affects the vewing experience. :(

Everything in Othertown seems pretty current...clothing, books, cds and players, furniture. Even the coffee pot the Ben had when he told Kate to put on her handcuffs tighter or she wouldn't get any coffee was pretty up-to-date. Very, very curious!

Notice the progression of technology as we visit the hatches? The Swan had 8mm film, a record player, and ancient computer. The Pearl had video, more of a desktop pc and pneumatic tubes. Now the Othertown has CD's and (possibly) internet access. What's next, a Dharma drop of mp3 players and satellite phones?

Angry: I feel your pain! Totally agree with you. They want the UK and AUS to participate in TLE, yet you guys are totally out of it to the US airing of episodes.

Amused2behere: Great observation! The progression of progress is an interesting insight. Next, the Others will be blogging with us! LOL

It's been great "talking" with everyone tonight after watching. Look forward to a great S3 on TLC! Getting late for me..see ya in the morning!

Scoutpost said...

Hey amused- yeah I might not be able to watch with them again. Makes me even more glad for this group.

Ok read the comments and here are my questions observations:
1- Did the book club discussion at the beginning have anything to do with what is going on? I have this feeling that it means something, but don't know what.
2- I think that there's definitely some history of disagreement or tension between Ben and Juliet- I think they're setting us up for something there.
3- re: the bandaids on Kate and Jack- in contrast to Michael's blood draw that was not technically correct, Kate and Jack's bandaids would indicate blood draw or transfusion (hmmmm). A vaccination would be given elsewhere, not in the bend of the arm.
4- Did Sawyer have a blood draw? Good question Maven!
5-I think/agree with those that say that Juliet was making up the bit about Jack's wife being happy. Don't remember Ben's exact words, but to me it indicated that perhaps she had done an acting job in there with Jack.
6-It seems that by what Juliet says that at least some of the Others are former DI scientists. Will have to watch that part again, but she says to Jack that that was a long time ago, so what are they working on now, if not the DI? And how do Kate, Jack, and Sawyer fit into that?
7- Sunloc- I thought Sarah's new b/f looked familiar too, and I think he does look a little like Shannons b/f, but I would have to go back to the season 2 DVD's to check. I thought he looked kind of like one of the guys that were with Mr. Friendly on the boat when they took Walt from the raft. hmmm Wonder if we have seen him before or if he's just some Joe?

Also- I missed the Amex commercial- what is everyone talking about? Guess I'll have to go back to look. It's late here- gotta go to bed so I can think about these things tomorrow!

Amused2bHere said...

me too. Night all!

Funny thought re: the contrast between the 70-ish Hatch and the 21st century Othertown- I bet one of the Others was expecting a brand new washer and dryer that never came in the drop. And good ole Desmond was thinking how cool his new w/d looked in the Hatch! Maybe the DI gets mixed up like the good ole USPS.

Right before the crash when the house begins shaking, Juliett is scolding a member of the book club who disagreed with the book choice and implied Ben would not stoop as low as too come. Juliett is in the middle of saying "Here I am thinking that free will still acutally exists on this...." and then the house shakes.

Takes me back to my earlier comment:

was just watching epi again.....there is also a mean exchange of looks between Juliett and Ben when Jack has Juliett hostage. Jack says to open the door or she dies, and Ben says if he opens the door she dies anyway. Juliett gives Ben of look of shock, and then Ben locks her in the room.

I think this is going to get good

Aaaaaagh.....

Hi Guys, just catching up with the posts.

Just to explain my scream of anguish, my hard drive in my laptop failed last night :(

Now luckily all is backed up but until I get a replacement I can't download Lost and I can't record any Audio for the Podcast -AAAAAARH

However I will NOT be defeated - if Rachel can post from Sri Lanka I can comment on the podcast. I am determined this podcast will be a success. So ....

I will be emailing my comments to Passafist for this weeks podcast and I WILL be recording stuff for the next podcast as I'm determined that there's going to be a second one - even if it is just me.

Good Morning Losties!!

I am not sure if this has been said or not. I think that the people we have come to know as the "Others" are not the group of people we saw last night. I think Benry and his group are left over from the DI and that the real "Others" are people that have escaped and are running wild. What do you guys think.

Oh, and I so called the Utopian Society back in the middle of the game!!!
