Here it is! The Lost Community's first official episode discussion thread has arrived. We would like to wish everyone a very happy "Lost Day". Have fun discussing the ins and outs of the most anticipated network premiere of the year. Keep an eye on this post, it will change as needed.
Concerning Spoilers: There has been much discussion and we wanted to let everyone know that we are entertaining ideas of how to handle advance information about upcoming episodes. We really hope that it will not be a major problem once the season gets rolling. However, we will be keeping a close watch on how things go from here and make changes as necessary. We don't want to rush into an unecessary decision so please be patient with us as we strive to do what's best for the community at large.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 211 of 211Just chiming in with my two cents. Now that work has blocked Blogger (ARGHH!!) I can only contribute at home.
There's no way the Others we know (Goodwin, Ethan, Ben, Juliet, and even Tom) were original DHARMA operatives. Remember, even if there were some recruitments going on into the 90's (see: Kelvin), there's no indication from any of these Others that they were originally scientists. Juliet obfuscated when Jack asked her about DI. If DI started in the early 70's, and was semi-officially suspended in the early 80's, these are not the original operatives.
SO...Are they the children of DI operatives, or did DHARMA experiment on children, too?
Ok. So I've skimmed the comments and written a book. First, thanks, Sean. Benry is great!
The parallels in this episode to information from previous seasons like commenters have pointed out are indeed interesting. S2 starting with Desmonds albums and an insider's look at the hatch before know it was the hatch is an exact parallel to what we got of the Others. I had no idea they were the others until Ethan showed up. Going back to the beginning and showing what happened to the Tailies parallels with going back to where the Others were at the time of the crash. I love how they started the show with a scene that would give us some affection for the Others. I love the way this was written!
So we're all wondering about what happened to Kate between the table and the cage that made the cuffs scrape her wrists up. Guess she didn't eat breakfast or why else would she be hungry for Sawyer's fish biscuit? Could be more time than it appeared had passed between breakfast and when we next saw her.
And we agree that Jack and Kate must have had a transfusion or a blood draw but they didn't show Sawyer having one. I really fail to see at this point what benefit the Others get out of holding Jack, Sawyer, and Kate. They can get anything they want from outside it seems. What could these three have that they'd need?
What's going on inside the Others? What is their purpose now that Dharma was "a long time ago?" Who feeds them current information and stuff from the outside (Jack's file, CD's, books)? Somebody with a lot of resources is definitely supporting them.
I want to speculate on the Others relation to DI but I'm frustrated by too many options. Maybe they are hiding from the outside world? I got the feeling though that they may not be there completely willingly. Juliet is obviously troubled and misses the busy life off the island (per her ironic reaction to the "Downtown" song).
What happened between Benry and Juliet that caused their falling out? I think Benry's locking Juliet in the water hatch was related to the same conflict they had at the time of the book club. I also thought that they way they introduced the relationships between Juliet, Benry, and Jack, it will become an upcoming love triangle. Juliet falls for Jack? Benry's jealous? I'm not sure Jack can fall in love, but I'm going to save my Jack comments for SotL.
The water station is the "Hydra" and the Dharma symbol on land near Sawyer looked like a Hydra so I think Sawyer and Kate are being held close to Jack. Was that big building behind the cages a dormitory?
Soo many questions!!!
Great message board, ya'll! Would under Castaways where you have discussion threads for S 1, 2, and 3 be a good place to put a thread for Spoilers?
Final thought for now: I always checked TV.com's trivia and allusions for an episode after watching one last season. The posters there catch such interesting tidbits! Like this:
"In the opening scene, an "Other" can be seen putting a CD in a CD player, and "Downtown" by Petula Clark begins to play, but the case can be identified as, the DualDisc version of, "Speaking In Tongues" by the Talking Heads."
Mountaingirl and Maven; I think that Sawyer got the upper hand (in his mind) when he shot back to Mr. Friendly, "Yeah, but how *many* bears?", i.e. in his mind, if the bears did it faster, it was because there were more bears-brains and paws working on it than when he did it, with just his one brain and two hands. :-)
Diggity; it sure felt like Juliet was going to say, "Here I am thinking that free will still actually exists on this....[[craphole island]]" :-)
Also, I don't think that Juliet telling Jack that "what we are now" was any accident or mere reply to his question. It seems, from spoilers, previews, etc., that they are going to use Jack, so they need him to believe that about himself, for them to use him. He needs to forget about his past and be whatever he needs (or the Others need him) to be on the island. It will be too bad if Jack ends up becomming an Other, and being perfectly satisfied with living in Othertown for the rest of his life, once he forgets his past life. But......it would be an interesting turn!
Hi Twinkle! Thanks for that TVtrivia headsup, it looks interesting. Also, don't forget, the Lostaways are an intrusion to "their" island, so they believe that they need to have a well planned procedure for infiltrating, separating, and using any "intruders" (accidental or otherwise) for their own benefit, and to reduce the intruders' factor as a threat to their Utopia. Or we should say, so-called Utopia, it doesn't seem so perfect between the lines.
I swear, the gu that Jack checks on in the hospital (flashback) is Hurley's psychiatrist (the guy from the X-men movies.) Am I the first to notice this, or am I completely out of the loop?
Hey all
Finally got caught up on the posts.
I agree that they are in their own verison of an utopian society but I'm not sure if Goodwin and Ethan were sent to protect the society or get something that they need from the survivors. I haven't got a clue what.
As far as the the info they had on Jack I think they may have tortured that out of Kate. I think the whole file was a fake and a mind game to break Jack down.
Oh has anyone else seen the pictures they have on the abc galleries? They have some pictures in there that I didn't see in the show last night. Like Jack lying on the table with a little girl standing in the corner. Weird.
