THE GLASS BALLERINA - SEASON 3, EPISODE 2

"A daring rescue or a deadly trap. The real adventure is just beginning." (From last week's promo for The Glass Ballerina). Everyone's on edge, waiting to see what will happen next as the Survivors clash with the Others. We were overwhelmed at the response of our commenters last week and can't wait to continue to foster a sense of community throughout the season. You guys rock!

In response to the spoken need for a place to discuss spoilers so that they can be kept out of the comments threads, lostgrrl has started THIS THREAD in the Message Board dedicated to a week by week discussion of upcoming spoilers. If anyone wishes to talk about spoiler info, you can kindly direct them to the Message Board. Hope this helps!

it came on at 9pm here on channel 467 for me, and 10pm on ABC, i watched the earier one.

SunBruise said...

You'll love the end.

NobleLawyer said...

what time zone?
I thought it came on at 9pm east coast time, and 8pm central time

SunBruise said...

im east coast, but i a bunch of channels, its on again all day tomorrow for me, :)

NobleLawyer said...

well for episode one this blog was rocking and I had a good time. this is boring. bye

SunBruise said...

Well most people are watching the episode, wait for about 30 more minutes then alot more people will come.

SunBruise said...

so he is called Ben Linus, I wonder what Jack will have to do to go home.

Mike V. said...

Woah! That was intense! Has anyone else noticed that they've been on the island for SIXTYNINE days?! 69. That's right. I think Sun may just have a miscarriage from all the jumping and shooting and stress.

SunBruise said...

Well I have to go, C-ya people tomorrow!

sean said...

benry linus.

the red sox scene was funny.

Mike V. said...

Jater morals? Skater? Feh. I don't even know what a jater moral is. :P

sean said...

and that scene when jin thought sun was on the boat with the others, it reminded me of the scene where the others took walt, and michael was in the water
.

Sage said...

46th lol. Okay people, I know what they're doing having Sun sleep with ANYONE other then Jin. They're trying to cast doubt over who the father of her child is. To quote Dj Dan, SHUTDOWN!

Come on people, the Island is ALL about miracles - Locke walking, Rose suddenly being cured of cancer, Charlie coming back from certain death, and now Sun's pregnant even though Jin shouldn't be ab le to. This is all just smoke and mirrors. Don't worry about it.

Mike V. said...

Sean yeah, kind of like role switching.

megan lostfanatic, Sun's dad's weird eye. I can relate. It was like he was in constant evil-eye-mode!

NobleLawyer said...

I think sun's dad had a back up killer knowing that Jin proably couldn't go through with it
the pearls is what makes me think that as the dad was so vengeful

NobleLawyer said...

alex ran away with Karl and Karl got caught

Mike V. said...

Sage - I think that the island cured Jin's infertility. If it was someone off the island, it would have been a little longer than two months now and she would have felt effects before she took the test.

NobleLawyer said...

alex is looking for him. they gave kate alex' dress since alex left them

Sage said...

Megan I don't think Sun killed the bald guy because we don't have anything to suggest that Sun was there. He may have held onto the pearl necklace to take it with him to the afterlife. That's my take on it anyway.

NobleLawyer said...

i think the island also cured jins infertility. I also think Benry may have been born on the island but the most tantalizing part of this episode was Ben saying "yes, why would we stay?"

sean said...

i think that mr. paik knew that jin didn't have the ba**s to kill jae. so he set it up to make it look like jin figured it out. that way, jae would commit suicide.

ps-there are a lot of megans on this board. im getting confused.
between megan, megs, megs:), missmegs, i cant keep it strait.

Mike V. said...

I think Karl may have been killed.

I think what Benrinus meant by his entire life was that he was born there. Dharma started in the sixties. Two people when they were, say, 16 were put on the island. They did it when they fell in love a couple years later. P-oof- There's Benjamin Henry Linus who would at this time be in his late 30s.

Sage said...

LostinFrogurt, that's what I was trying to say. You said the exact same argument I had when I saw this episode. That's why I said it was smoke and mirrors to have Sun sleep with the bald guy. To try and get people to drop the popular theory that the Island can cure certain medical aillments/disablities.

NobleLawyer said...

I am positive Sun's lover didn't kill himself and Sun didn't kill him either. It was Sun's dad, or more likely on of his other hired killers. Sun's dad already knows tha Jin isn't a killer, so he had someone follow Jin to make sure he killed the guy with orders that he finish the guy off should Jin not. The pearls in the guys hand makes me suspect that Dad killed the guy himself

Mike V. said...

Juliet. Oh Juliet. What a mysterious character! I think she will turn out to be the most cold-blooded of all of the Others. She put a gun to Kate and wouldn't hesitate to shoot her without breaking her poker face at all. The way she handled it when Jack nearly flooded the Hydra. She's cold and evil.

Sage said...

Juilet is scarier then Ben Linus, just because she can stun Sawyer and point a gun with no hesitiation. If Ben and the rest of the Others lived their entire lives on the Island, that leaves one to wonder, how long has the DHARMA initiative been around?

Cam794 said...

EH i was sorta dissapointed wit tonights show. Sun/Jin falshback shows always suck. NXT week is suposed to be Locke centric but now we kno that Suns baby is her english teacher's (its either him or Michael) but OMG i was just saying the other day on here about how ANTTHING can happen on LOST and i was right..........lol wen wats his name came down on Jins car it scared me lol i jumped like a foot in da air lol annnnnnnnd it looks like we have another ANYTHING lost moment too. Wen Sun shot ummmmmmmmmm i think here name is Chisty or somthin well Ben said her name once wen she came down the ladder in the Hydra annnnnnd IT LOOKS LIKE FINNALY well be able to get to see that Losties camp again! nxt week and um if any wached da preveiws for nxt week ummmmmmmm y did the hatch bow desmonds pants off?! annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd 1 last thing y was Locke laying on the ground in the preveiws he looked like Jack in the Pilot in the very first sceen (sp?) anyway this is probly gonna b pretty long soo try to bear with me :)

CAM

NobleLawyer said...

if the guy didn't care to live without sun he wouldn't have said please and i'm sorry and looked so scared to die. He would have shut his eyes in resolution to die for her if he couldn't live without her. Remember he knew who Jin was. He knew that he was Sun's husband so he thought he was there just for revenge. He didn't know that Jin didn't know about the affair and that he had been sent by Sun's dad on a lie.

Cam794 said...

HOLY CRAP THATS MY LONGEST PST EVR haha

Mike V. said...

sage refer to my other post about how Benrinus appeared on the island.

Mike V. said...

Cam, no offense but could you mind typing out your posts instead of using txt-talk?

Sage said...

cam - that flashback was better then last weeks. The thing about Jin and Sun is that there's so much about their characters that doesn't get conveyed in the present so we get blindsided every time we see a flashback for them. They probably have some of the best flashbacks out of all the survivors.

sean said...

if juliet became jack's love interest, it would create a love-pentagon between benry, juliet, jack, kate and sawyer.

Cam794 said...

and its gonna b hard to say Ben now bcuz ive always known him as Henry haha its sounds silly i kno but........

NobleLawyer said...

I KNEW sun was going to shoot connie. Saying she wasnt a killer is true, but she is a survivalist, and does what ever she has to survive. She learned english to get away, she had the maid fired avoid punishment......

Sage said...

lostinfrogurt - amen about Cam. And where is your post about Benrius (do you remembe the number?)

Mike V. said...

Woooooo! Love pentagon! You know what? Let's put Hurley and the Fishbiscuit in their! Love Septagon!!

sean said...

do you think it was a good idea for sun to shot connie? connie said that if sun shot her, then they would become their enemies.

Sage said...

Septagon! LMAO!

NobleLawyer said...

when ben said, you didn't bring me soup it reminded me of the matrix, that seen where the one guy, the traitor says to Trinity - you never brought me breakfast, when she was brining food to Neo

That's it sage.

Sean - I think they meant HER enemy. Their men have been killed by the Losties and they aren't completely bereserker on them.

Sage said...

Sun did what any person trying to defend hers would do. The Others, who are very patient might I add, would probably come to see that.

NobleLawyer said...

I was cheering sun on to shoot Connie. the others are psycho to say that they are not the enemies. If they weren't enemies they would not have kidnapped Claire, with the clear intention to steal her baby and kill her. They would not have tried to kill Charlie. They would not have kidnapped all those tailies.

sean said...

i also doubt that connie is really dead.

Mike V. said...

cam - Yeah whatever, lol is fine just not so.... exessively?

ben-gay is a back medicine, i think.

NobleLawyer said...

I think they will have Jack betray the other losties, or maybe just sawyer and Kate in order to go home. just like they made Michael betray the other losties. The others get off on psychological torture

Cam794 said...

But in this episode Sawyer/James Ford had some very funny things to say HAHAHA like "I couldnt help myself you just look so damn cute swingin that pickaxe" ahahaahaaha

Mike V. said...

Noble - I think Ethan in particular was psycho.

Sean - definitely. Coleen ws just introduced, she's not going to die so easily.

sean said...

noble, or maybe jack will get the chance to betray the losties, like michael. burt jack will turn them down. it would make him look more like a hero.

Cam794 said...

no no no no Connie is DEFINITLY DEAD i mean did you see the look on her face??? just watch it twomorrow on abc.com/lost

Mike V. said...

I think by them saying they're not the enemy, they mean they're working for a greater power. Maybe they're being forced to do so. Possibly the DI.

Well, I gotta go. I'll be back on Thursday!

PANDA OUT

sean said...

or maybe jack will become romantically linked to juliet in order to spite kate, and maybe even bengay.

Twinkle said...

PANDA!!!!!

My kid has so missed you at the end of TLE! He kept asking to see your panda.

I haven't watched the episode and need to hit the sack but I couldn't keep myself from stopping in. :-)

jeez. i just realized that its already 10:36 and i haven't even had dinner yet. i told myself id only be on TLC for 5-10 minutes, and here i am 36 minutes later.

ill speak toy ou all tomorrow.
great episode.

Cam794 said...

hmmmmmmmmmmm Karl has to be involved wit hthe DI Resistance somehow cuz of Alex askin were he waz buuuuuuuuuuuut she asked Kate buuuuuuuuuuuuuut Kate waznt there when Karl waz there soooooooooooooo...........

NobleLawyer said...

I am thinking too more along the lines of a Kate Sawyer betrayal. Jack is noble and had a hero complex, a need to fix others because he can't fix himself. but he was betrayed by his wife and it drove him nuts. The others are not going to get past Jack's hero complex without first making him feel betrayed. Best way to do that I think is for them to show kate betraying Jack for Sawyer, that is why they put Kate and Sawyer together with jack seperate.

Cam794 said...

But wen Benryious said to Kate on A Tale of Two Cities "The next (like two or three weeks i think) are going to be unpleasnt" is the rock hitting what he had in mind??? is doesnt look THAT BAD! and WE ONLY GOT TO SEE 2 SCEENS WITH JACK! grrrrrrrrrrrr bu8t i was crackin up wen JKack was laughin that the red sox won the series.......O O O O O!!!!! I JUST REMEMBERED!!! member Jacks dads famous quote "Thats why the sox will never win the series"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i completly forgot!!!

NobleLawyer said...

Benry = puppetmaster

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Connie wasn't dead - at least not yet. The look on her face was shock at being shot. Looked liked she was shot in the abdomen. The others probably have the medical facitlies to perform surgery and save her.

Cam794 said...

I dont think Benry is HIM idk y i just dont think he is any1 else agree with me?

Cam794 said...

lol Megan do u end evry post with =D

NobleLawyer said...

I think connie is a psychologist. sh eis compassionate as she wants the process or whatever the others are doing to them to be as painless as possible, but if they do not cooperate she has absolutely no problem destroying them.

Cam794 said...

LOL has anybody watched LOSTed a cartoon version of lost???? if not heres the link http://www.lost-interactive.com/forum/losted.php =D >.< seeeee now u got meee doin it!!!

Sage said...

had to come back. I thought that Ben wasn't gonna show Jack any proof that the Red Sox won the series. I figured he'd tease jack with the idea that he'd never find out if he didn't cooperate.

If you think about it, if you told a die-hard Red Sox fan who hadn't had any contact with MLB since before 2004, the idea that the Sox could beat the Yankees after being down 3-0 in the ALCS and sweep the world series would probably sound crazy too.

Cam794 said...

I don't think sun thinks Jin did it. If she did do you really think she could have stayed with him??
She knows that Jin doesn't know because of the way Jin acted that night, and at the funeral her dad said he wasn't going to tell Jin. Sun knows her father. She knows he did it.
Of if she thinks Jin did do it for her father, she knowe he did it on order from her father, and not because Jin's own revenge. If that is the case she did to her lover just as she did to the maid. She didn't want to confess about the ballerina so the maid lost her job.
she didn't want to confess about the affair so her lover lost her life.

Kenshinfan - also a yankee fan (well actually a former baseball fan but that's another story) and yes I didn't believe it either as I watched the impossible happen. Maybe the Red Sox had the numbers on their side?

Anyhow it makes better sense to show Jack the tape, but it would have been funny if they didn't. Then again, Lost doesn't do funny like that.

Read my thoughts on tonight's show there and comment please!

BarbaraJay said...

Hi, everybody! Good ep. In addition to all that was already mentioned, I was creeped out to see Benry watching the surveillance monitors while Sawyer talked about his plan to take on the guards.

PS--I also think Sun's Dad had someone toss Jae over the balcony.

Tess315 said...

At first I thought Jae was thrown over the balcony but then after reading some post here the fact he had the pearls in his hand make me think that maybe he did jump not sure.
And I just never could believe before tonight that they had access to the outside world I think I must be the only one somewhat surprised by that.

Black Swan said...

Great episode! As usual, raises more questions than answers.

The others are getting the reaction from Sawyer that they wanted. He must be the easiest of the 3 for them to "play". He loves Kate, but I'm not sure she loves him. If the others got that wrong, it could screw up their plans, which I think could involve getting Jack to do what they want. Wonder what that is? The fact that he is a doctor must have something to do with it. Ethan, their doctor, is dead and they need a new one?

Tess315 said...

codysmom- hey that's a good thought it never occured to me that maybe they'd want Jack to replace Ethan.
Maybe if he does what they want he won't want to go home.

noble,
Saw your post. Why not chat in the chatroom connected with our Message Board for real time discussions? I really like keeping the blog as simple as possible. More threads = More complicated. I'll definitely think about your idea though. Since we're only on the 2nd episode, I feel like we're still getting an idea of how this thing will work and I really appreciate suggestions and ideas. I kinda liked the way it worked last week though...comment up to 400-500 and then post a lag alleviation. We'll see where we'll go from here...

Red Sox win the World Series? Psh. Never going to happen. I bet they forged the video.

maven said...

Well, the west coast is now done! Guess most people will be here tomorrow commenting.

Some thoughts:
1. Ben and Juliette had a relationship: Ben to Juliette, "You never made soup for me." Obviously, their relationship is strained now.
2. Why does Ben want that boat and why didn't he know about it? Did he not know about Kelvin fixing the boat, and Desmond getting to island by that boat?
3. Well, the village they had set up for Michael to see was definitely a decoy.
4. Connie (played by "Trixie" from Deadwood) and Danny (the one who zapped Sawyer) have a relationship. When Connie was getting a group together to get the boat, Danny gave her a kiss.
5. What are Sawyer and Kate working on? There's a set of plans that Danny is looking over. The workers are using pretty primitive tools.
6. There might be something developing between Juliette and Jack. But she also gave Sawyer a "look" when she handed him the canteen.
7. Sawyer kissed Kate to get them to come over so he could try and overtake them and get a gun.
8. Before Sun shoots Connie in the boat: Connie says, "I know you, Sun (wok wun?)(her full name). Despite what you might think, I am not the enemy. WE are not the enemy. If you shoot me, that's exactly what we will become." Good guys/bad guys again.
9. There were animal sounds when Sawyer and Kate were brought back to their cages again. Almost sounded like whales to me?
10. So now we know: Benjamin Linus has lived on the island his whole life. And they do have contact with the outside world. That's how they know so much about the Losties.
11. Definite date of Nov. 29th, 2004. 69 Days on the island.
12. So Ben can send Jack home. He wants Jack to "change your att...perspective." They are trying behavior modification.
13. Last week -- First 5 minutes were awesome. This week -- Last 5 minutes were awesome!

Sorry this is so long. Just had to post some thoughts. (Part II coming up re Sun's flashback)

maven said...

Still really quiet here (know it's late on east coast)!

Re Sun/Jin/Jae/Mr. Paik:

1. Mr. Paik has a problem with his right eye. (TWM has a limp!) They're both flawed.
2. Agreed that Jin didn't kill Jae (obviously, since Jin was in his car when Jae was pushed).
3. Mr. Paik pushed Jae from the balcony.
4. Sun isn't sure if Jin killed her lover or not.
5. Definitely planting the seed that Jae is the father of Sun's baby.

Another thought:
14. Alex is looking for Carl. She tells Kate: "You weren't supposed to be in that cage." Who was? Maybe Alex and Carl were planning an escape.

I think I figured out how Juliet/The Others know so much info about Jack/Sun/Etc. I don't think the (DUH DUNN) Hanso Foundation was involved.

We know they have some kind of "contact" with the outside world - at the least they can get TV there. My guess is they must have followed the Crash of Flight 815 on the news. I'm sure a flight with that many people on board would have been a big news story, with profiles and obituaries of the passengers. The info Juliet had on Jack sounds straight out of a news story. They probably interviewed his ex-wife, etc.

See y'all in the morning!

Forgive me if I don't read all the "back-chat" today......I'm actually planning on attempting to work......maybe.

Anyway......just wanted to say kudos on the new forum and here's a little something I went on a rant about at the Rachel Blake's Refugees forum/chat (it's a little long in size, but not really in monologue---sorry if it's unwanted---just let me know):

FROM CHAT:

Chucklez3: oh and obligatory rant here

Chucklez3: WTF is with this AMEX sh*t????????????

Chucklez3: GRRRRRRRRRRRR

Chucklez3: like the real fans haven't suffered / endured ENOUGH this "OFF-SEASON"

Chucklez3: gimme a break

Chucklez3: makes me feel like "what was the point", if NOW you only have "privies" if you waste credit points applying for an AMEX card!!!!!

Chucklez3: and for what??

Chucklez3: another picture of a 9-year old "phantom girl"???

Chucklez3: please!

Chucklez3: someone slap the "big-wigs" at ABC when you get the chance, would ya?

Chucklez3 bends over, picks up soapbox and tucks firmly under arm

Chucklez3: apologies

CONTINUED FROM CHAT:

Chucklez3: Next up, "Fun with Punctuation":

Chucklez3: Sun kills an "other"!!!

Chucklez3: Jin: the fisherman / hitman?

Chucklez3: Red Sox won the World Series?????

Chucklez3: Oh wait.........disregard the last one

Chucklez3: Sawyer: "...you taste like strawberries..."

Chucklez3: Kate: "...you taste like fish biscuits..."

Chucklez3: mmm-hmmmmm

Chucklez3: Okay and I'm STILL waiting for a reference to the four-toed statue Sayid, Sun and Jin saw

Chucklez3: I mean, HONESTLY.....if you're seeing that in person........you can't tell me you wouldn't bring it up in conversation while plotting your "TRAP" (however pathetic it was) for the others!!

Chucklez3: EXAMPLE:

Chucklez3: Chucklez, DM and say......hell.....nanny go to search for Hags, Ms O and Lame

Chucklez3: setting: chuck, dm and nanny are on boat.........chuck observes something in the distance.......

Chucklez3: *grabs binoculars.......*

Chucklez3: actual expression! >>> o_O

Chucklez3: hands binoculars to DM............chuck: "dude........what the F@$K is THAT??"......*points toward island*

Chucklez3: DM grabs binoculars......

Chucklez3: DM: "............."

Chucklez3: *hands binoculars back to chuck, walks into cabin, comes back, tossing liquor and bongs over side of boat*

Chucklez3: *nanny continues to smoke in the corner, playing cards with the pink polar bears

Chucklez3: THE END

Chucklez3: *bows*

Chucklez3: this has been a production of "Master-Cheese Theater".

Chucklez3: eh.......

The Penuels said...

Thank you Chucklez3! I just noticed. Really appreciate the voluntary re-posting. :)

The Penuels said...

Just wanted to add:

1. I'm absolutely in the camp of people that believes that Jae committed suicide. It was an honor thing and a love thing. He was found out and dishonored by Jin and Mr. Paik. He really loved Sun and didn't want to share her anymore. When Jae realized that hope for a life with Sun was lost, he gave up his will to live. Everything else in his life was destroyed because he knew he would have to "disappear". Plus, he was a coward. The pearls were definitely a suicide message.

2. Why hasn't anyone else noticed that THE OTHERS ARE SCARED? The Others are not sovereign over the island. They are not as in control as we think they are. They are just one step ahead of the Survivors. Their surveillance is antiquated and, like Sawyer said, only a few of them can hold their own. There is obvious division in their ranks and they are INSECURE.

The AMEX site has some interesting questions:

Little Lying Sun: Little Sun lies and tells her father the maid broke the glass ballerina, forcing him to fire the maid. What does lying at such an early age say about Sun?

An Awkward Moment: After bringing Jack soup, Juliet encounters Ben. "You never made soup for me," he says with a smirk before Colleen interupts. Is there a past between them?

A Quick Kiss: Sawyer wathces Pickett give Colleen a goodbye kiss. What does this mean? Does it relate in any way to Juliet and/or Ben?

Sun's Affair: Sun and Jae Lee wake up after a rendezvous and he presents Sun with a pearl necklace. Who is the father of Sun's baby?

Kate's Dress: Alex, the French woman's child, asks Kate about Karl. Who does she say is not even supposed to be in that cage? And why is Kate wearing Alex's dress?

Sawyer Kisses: Sawyer plants one on Kate during forced labor. Is Sawyer just testing the Ohter's response and capabilities? And what's on the blueprints - what are they building?

The Others Board the Boat: The Others stealthily climb aboard Desmond's sailboat. Where did they come from, and how did they sneak past Sayid and Jin?

Jae Lee's Suicide: Jae Lee, clutching a pearl necklace, falls dead onto Jin's car. Jin had confronted him on the second floor. Could one commit suicide jumping from that floor?

Sawyer Sizes Up Juliet: Sawyer tell Kate that Juliet would definitely have shot her if he'd made another move during the fight. Juliet seems nice. Does sawer have her pegged?

Island Native Ben: Ben's full name is Benjamin Linus. He says he's lived on the island all his life. Was he born there? And if he could leave, as he claims, why does he stay?

Morning all: After a good nights sleep, some second thoughts:

1. After thinking about the Jae/Jin/Sun/Paik: Paik wanted Jin to kill Jae for sleeping with his daughter. Jin didn't have it in him. He had no idea of Sun's betrayal with Jae, just thought he was someone Paik had it in for. He just beat him up and told him to disappear. But Jae thought he knew and because he felt dishonored and loved Sun and felt he had lost her forever, he jumped from that balcony clutching the pearls (his only connection with her left that he had left). Sun most likely believed that Jin had something to do with Jae's death and that is why she finally was planning to leave him before that fatal flight. The baby is most likely Jae's. (Guess he'll come out bald!)

2. So the Others have contact with the outside world. That's how they know so much about the Losties. I did earlier post a theory that Ben and the Others choose to stay on the their island (or large land mass). They have developed their own little "perfect" world, and don't want any outsiders causing them trouble. Ben's been there all his life. That would probably make him a child of the original Dharma Initiative group. He was raised in a place that's based on hippy-like utopian ideals from the 1970's. When the flight crashed, they went into protective-mode...not "let's help the survivors-mode". They want Jack to do something for them (maybe use his medical skills). They are trying to break him. Kate and Sawyer are just part of their plan to manipulate Jack to, as Ben said: "...changing his atti...perspective."

IEAL....LoCo's?

As for the two factions of Others, does it seem that you have those of a military bent and those of a intellectual inclination?

The ones with guns seem a bit "coarser" to me (ie, comments about Kate's dress) and they carry guns and force people to do menial labor.

The pseudo intellectuals hold book clubs and bake muffins and conduct psychological experiments on the Losties.

Juliet, it seems, is comfortable in both arenas.

Dennis thought about them getting their info from a news cast on the plane crash.
I have a feeling they are not as in touch with the outside world as they want them to believe. Cause Ben seemed confused when Jack laughed about the Sox winning the series as if he couldn't understand why that would be so unbelievable. Also I thnk someone suggested clones which may be a possiblity too.
Maven I wondered about Alex saying Kate wasn't supposed to be in the cage too wonder where she was supposed to be and why they moved her. I'm still not sure if Jae commnitted suiside or was pushed yet but the pearls make me lean towards suiside.
I kind of feel that maybe Juliette is "him" and that maybe Ben was once a prisoner and didn't get soup brought to him. Because of Sawyer's assesment of her pretty cool of him to pick a fight to find out their weaknesses.
And I noticed the plans too wonder what they're for and are the other workers prisoners or "others".

Sayid's girl: Ben said to Juliette: "You never made soup for me." This was in reference to when Juliette told Jack that she actually made the soup herself. This leads me to believe that Ben and Juliette have/had a relationship, and things are a bit strained right now between them.

I agree. I know some people are trying to be cute, but meh.

His name is Ben. Let's not make things more confusing than it already is.

LockeBox said... Something doesn't seem right about Alex showing up asking about Karl. It seems like a ploy.

I think Karl and Alex probably escaped together and Karl got caught, which was why he was being held in the cage. Now she wants to know where he is, but she just asked the wrong person.

I don't think the Others would have given away Alex's clothes if she was still living at the camp.

Maybe Alex ranaway to go search for her mother?

Dennis - thanks for posting those, I was about to but saw that you had already done so. Good job.

Anyone else wondering if Colleen says "Daddy" now that we know the man's name is Pickett?? And if she DID say daddy, what does that implicate about the others' way of life on the island?

maven said...

Dennis: Agreed about Alex. Alex and Karl have most likely done something wrong in the eyes of the Others. And Karl got caught, although Alex was just as guilty. She probably felt she should have been captured and put in the cage instead of Karl. Alex says to Kate: "You weren't supposed to be in that cage." She could go on to say: "I was." But she saw Kate wearing her dress and that changed her train of thought. Alex is trying to hide from the Others and probably did run away, so that's why her the clothes she left behind went to Kate.

Your Mother said...

Also, here's my Lost thought of the day. And with thousands of comments to go through please forgive me if this has been said. But Benry seemed very interested in the fact that Kate asked about Sawyer and then Jack. I wonder if she had said "where are Jack and Sawyer?" if they would have put her in the shark tank with Jack? Also read an interesting theory on the ew. recap about the "two weeks" comment and how that could refer to Kate's menstrual cycle and perhaps they want her to get pregnant. So perhaps they were in a way, letting her choose who to procreate with? I know that's WAY out there, but anything goes on LOST, right?

Btw - I like Lost-anados. :)

maven said...

Your mother: I think Colleen (who I first thought was Connie, and, btw, is played by the actress who was Trixie on "Deadwood") called him Danny, not Daddy. I think I heard that a few time i the episode. I guess he's Danny Pickett. Their little kiss which Sawyer saw indicated that there's a relationship there between them.

Hey Gang thanks for the comments just wanted to thank you guys for all the support We've gotten already on the podcast. I will share my thoughts with you only after that... The one thing though that stood out to me was the answer about time. So we now know that Lost exists in the real world, only still in 2004. What are the ramifications of that? Is everything real? Should we assume now that Lost is a historical record? Hmmm?!?!?!?!?

Your Mother said...

Maven - I thought that he might be Danny Pickett also, but the AMEX site refers to EVERYONE by first name, so why would they suddenly switch to calling only one person by his last name? Also the guy appears to be much older and he gives her a quick peck on the cheek ... which could be romantic or familial. Regardless, I'm interested to see how this turns out. I'm sure Danny/Pickett is not going to be happy with Sun!

Good call on the Others getting info from the media coverage on the crash Dennis. With the plane disappearing and not just crashing, it would have had the mystery of the Amelia Earhart missing flight, and the media would cover it ad nauseum. Especially if it was a slow week for news.

I'm still on the fence about whether or not Jae killed himself. If Paik's henchmen followed Jin just in case he failed to complete his mission (because Paik must know that Jin's basically a nice guy in a bad job and doesn't have the chops to be an assassin), they would have been told to "make it look like an accident", as mobs are wont to do, i.e., putting the necklace around his hand after they killed him and then throwing him over. And perhaps they made sure that he hit Jin's car, to assure that Jin knew that Paik knew, that Jim didn't finish the job, thereby having an even stronger hold over Jin.

Whew. I must have a terminal case of Lostitis, the main symptom of which is the uncontrollable urge to analyse everything to death!

It's nice reading everyone's theories, it really does help in looking at what happens on the show with many different eyes and viewpoints! Not to mention, I get caught up on all the things that I missed the first time around. Ya'll are great.

I get the feeling that whatever the Others are building is going to turn out to be something trivial, like a tennis court. Then in two weeks when it is finished, they can say "See, we're not bad people. We like Tennis."

Then they could get some cool Dharma tennis balls made :)

first I think sawyer is pulling a long con on benry letting his see kate and him plot is like letting his victem see his money in his case. I think they need Jack to preform spinal surgery on someone. That might be why they wanted clares baby for the stem cells or cord cells. Thats why they mentioned chris reeves dying at the end, cause you know jack secretly wished he could have gotten a crack at saving superman like he did for his ex-wife. If they truly only needed jack it would explain why jack was set down like a feather in the jungle by the smoke. I think that Suns father is involved in the island. He had been spying on his daughter, thats how he knew to bust in on her. He might have set jin and sun up for that flight cuase he didnt want them to run away to america...

Re; what someone said about the significance of Sun telling a lie at such an early age......all kids do it. All kids have "I-didn't-do-it-itis" until they get to a certain age when you can finally convince them that fessing up is for the better. But, that's not to say that TPTB were not intentionally using that as a way to say that Sun was/is a fibber, since her lies were mentioned later when she was an adult as well.

InEnglandAndLost said...

I think Lost-anados, LoObs or LoFans are definate winners!!!

Afternoon Losties!!!

It was not a stellar episode IMHO! But I did enjoy the action in it.

Dennis said...

Your Mother said...but the AMEX site refers to EVERYONE by first name, so why would they suddenly switch to calling only one person by his last name?

I wouldn't consider the AMEX site canon.

Hopefully, someone can re-play that part with the closed captions on.

capcom said... I'm still on the fence about whether or not Jae killed himself.

I'm pretty confident that it was suicide (although I was SURE last season they weren't sleeping together!). The only thing that bothers me is that according to the AMEX site Jae Lee's room (#1516!) was on the second floor. But I guess he could have ran up to the roof and jumped off. Maybe by aiming for Jin's car, he was trying to kill Jin - so Sun could be free from them both.

Dennis said...

There was a couple of interesting themes in the show:

Falling - The Glass Ballerina falling from the shelf, and Jea Lee falling from the roof, Sun falling from the boat

Kissing - Sawyer kissing Kate, Colleen kissing Danny, Sun kissing Jae Lee

Capcom said...

Go 2costa! That is what I thought about Sawyer talking to Kate about his plan, that it might be a long con, or at least a con-on-a-con type thing. Or let's say that I really hoped that it was, since it was pretty stupid for Sawyer to think that they could talk freely without someone listening. If he is conning them , it will be a beautiful thing to see when they realize they've been had. :-)

Speaking of which, I also hope that TPTB shift the power of the island conflict back and forth between the Losties and the Others a few times, to make the "game" interesting. It will get tiring if the Others have the upper hand during the entire S3.

Capcom said...

Dennis, it's also the second floor thing that makes me think that Paik's men finished the job. They just killed him first before they threw him overboard.

Remember Occam's Razor theory. I guess I'm just going with the simplest guess......but not necessarily the correct TPTB-one. :-)

Your Mother said...

I don't neccessarily think the AMEX site is canon, but surely someone has to look it over first? I dunno, I will not be surprised if it turns out the guy's name is Danny (I watched it again too, Maven and it sounds like Danny to me!). I would also not be surprised if she said "Daddy." Not to mention the third possibility - she called him Danny as an alias when his real name is Pickett.

Oh Lost, how you taunt us!!

Your Mother said...

Found this on the MSN recap: Mr. Friendly and Pickett (the Other who took a blood sample from Michael last season) escorted Kate and Sawyer to a labor camp. Pickett laid down the rules. “You talk to each other, you’re going to be shocked. You touch each other, you’re going to be shocked.” And he went on to explain that most any activity that didn’t involve rock harvesting would lead to a stun gun to the chest.

So, we've seen Pickett before and that is indeed his name. Then again, they still call him Mr. Friendly. But good point of information - didn't remember Pickett taking Michael's blood!

Amused2bHere said...

Wow, great comments. I am just going to hit and run, I will be on a spiritual retreat this weekend (away from all technology--the idea of having three days to catch up on, yow!) so here's my two cents, all IMHO

1. Jae Lee committed suicide.
2. first time the Others misread a person, Sun surprised Colleen and shot her anyway.
3. good call on the Red Sox quote from Jack's Dad. maybe now Jack will begin to question all his fundamental beliefs
4. another good call on Ben's confusion as to why Jack would find it SO farfetched that the Red Sox would win. Like Ben has no clue what it meant for them to win. What cave has he lived in? LOL
5. Jack has a "hero" complex? Is that like a "savior" complex? If so, then perhaps he will go along until the full price is made known, and then he will surprise everyone by choosing against his own interests, sacrificing himself so his friends can leave instead. Sounds like something a messiah would do, lay down his life for his friends. The others may not anticipate such selflessness.

ok, that's enough for now, see ya all next week!

oh, and PS: although JJ, Damon and Carlton might not like the term, I think "Losties" is the catchiest and easiest moniker for us Lost Fans. Like it or not, we may just be stuck with that.

Your Mother said...

cattygirl - you're right. Mr. Friendly is Tom. That's why I'm not giving TOO much credit to them calling the other guy "Pickett." Though it is the second site to do so.

FYSB said...

Benry was VERY specific about the date. Could he be just reinforcing Jack's perception about the passage of time? It could be ANY time after that. Clearly Benry was showing Jack a tape of the game, since the series ended in late Oct.

Though, this is probably way out there, but I keep going back to what Damon/Carlton said about time.

CattyGirl said...

Sun shooting Colleen = flesh wound. I'm expecting the others to either deliver Colleen to Jack for saving or taking her to their own medical station.

2costa said...

i think ben linus overstated his ability to get off the island, he just dangled that cause if he needs Jack the surgeon, then he needs him to be motivated and fully on board. Just like ben would never let mike and walt really leave or say the true coordinates to escape in front of jack, kate, and sawyer. He would never let jack leave knowing what he knows. I think its like a cult telling you you can see your family whenever you want at the beginiing before the true brainwashing and indoctrination begins. The producers confirmed that walt and mike will be back, so i gather that they never truly left. I think that chris reeves refernce was an ove rthe top nod to needing jacks spinal surgery skills. Plus it was to shake what jack thought not only did superman die,but the redsox won the series. All ben proved is that he has an internet connection. He could be just as trapped as everyone or just have no desire to leave. Whats interesting to me is what they want with sawyer. It seems like sawyers life is one big nature vs nurture experiment. I used to think benry was studying what made sawyer bad, now i think ben admires sawyers will to survive and is trying to harness that.Or they are trying to get sawyer and kate to mate...

Thrasher,

Dennis,
You're posts are blowing me away. Keep it up!

All,
New thread up on storiesofthelost.com if anyone is interested. It's a discussion on Sun, Jin, and trust.

Also,
About Christian Shephard talking about the Red Sox. It was from the Season 1 Episode called "Outlaws":
SAWYER: So, what's your handle back in the States?

CHRISTIAN SHEPHARD: I was a... Chief of Surgery.

SAWYER: Was?

CHRISTIAN SHEPHARD: Yeah, I was.

SAWYER: So we're in hell, huh?

CHRISTIAN SHEPHARD: Don't let the air conditioning fool you, son. You are here, too. And you are suffering. But don't beat yourself up about it. It's fate. Some people are just supposed to suffer. That's why the Red Sox will never win the damn series. I have a son -- he's about your age. He's not like me. He does what's in his heart. He's a good man. Maybe a great one. And right now... he thinks that I hate him. He thinks I feel betrayed by him. But what I really feel... is gratitude and pride because of what he did to me. What he did for me. It took more courage than I have. Hmm. There's a pay phone over here. I could pick it up, and I could call my son. I could tell him about all of this. I could tell him that I love him. One simple phone call, and I could fix everything.

SAWYER: Then why don't you?

CHRISTIAN SHEPHARD: Because I am weak.

My take: Boston winning the World Series represents the fact that there is a hope that persists outside the realm of fate.

One thing I haven't seen discussed yet (or missed):

When Sun has a gun pointed at Colleen...Colleen says: "I know you, Sun (says her full name). Despite what you might think, I am not the enemy. WE are not the enemy. If you shoot me, that's exactly what we will become."

This leads me to believe that Colleen also believes she's one of the "good guys". What they are doing on the island is a good thing (thanks to Martha Stewart.--LOL). But if Sun shoots her, her group will do everything they can to protect themselves from hostile outsiders (like the Losties). The Others see outsiders as the real enemy to their way of life.

FWIW, we were speaking of denial on the SotL blog, and these Others are in SERIOUS, ridiculous, denial about themselves and their actions. Gee, I guess it never occured to them that they became the enemy when they:

1) Kidnapped children and "good" adults
2) Kidnapped Claire for her baby
3) Hung Charlie
4) Initiated aggression by drawing the line in the sand (Zeke to Jack)
5) Held Michael hostage
6) Lied (then-Fenry) about who they are and purposefully pitted the Lostaways against each other
7) Held J, S and K captive
8) Stole Desmond's boat from S, S and J
9) Used those stunguns like total jerks on their captives
10) Everything else!

Sheesh. God forbid that the Lostaways would try to defend themselves against the Others' aggressive behavior, how dare they!

Regarding Ben and his being on the island his whole life? How do we know that he didn't precede the DI's presence there? DI started in 1970 but the first orientation video we've seen is dated 1975 that discusses the island. Is it possible he was there before the DI was?

DiggityDirge said...

Some good comments: Here's my list of interesting items from the epi:

1. Sailing around in circles for a few days.....the security system obviously prevents people from the leaving the island. They others weren't concerned about the survivors leaving the island, only about the survivors finding them.

2. Your not even supposed to be in those cages. We all knew there was a reason the others wanted these three surviors, but now they are not following the plan according to Alex.

3. Bryan/Ryan Radio'd in: The others must be spread out and have ways to communicate with the seperate groups. Surprised Sayid or Bernard never picked up any radio signals with their radios. Was this a nod of the hat to the TLE sri lanka vid: "broadcasting in a frequency and encryption known only to us."

4. Connection with outside world confirmed this week.

5. Sawyer sizing up Juliett as a killer. Sawyer has made a living off of sizing people up in a second. He did this during this weeks fight scene. Sized everyone up vs his intial instinct, and Sawyer thinks he was correct following the fight. Found it interesting that the one person Sawyer saw as dangerous was Juliett. Maybe she isn't as sweet as everyone thinks.

6. Ben's observation room - Kudos to the folks who speculated last week that Ben was watching from another room. We now know we were right. But, the camera's. Wow. Some of them were on a Random sequence. Makes you believe the others can see everything. Makes me wonder if that is why Ben went to the Swan. To fix a camera??

7. The sailboat ambush: A totally different style ambush than the raft. On the raft, the others let them selves be noticed, were dressed in costume, acted like hillbillies and use a home made bomb to blow it up.

The sailboat was a complete 180. A navy seals style ambush coming in from water quietly, not in costume or using the hillbilly front, dressed in all black modern style clothes, search boat, steal boat, and setup team to fire at dockwith modern weaponry vs a homemade bomb. Way different. Wondering why the abandoned the illusion they have worked so hard to maintain?? Maybe the others didnt figure they would run into anyone taking the boat?

8. Sayid's interrogation technique. Wants to capture two others. One to talk, and one to make the other person talk. Sayid is a skilled interrogator trained by the US army. Does this sound familiar to anyone else? Sounds like Kate, Jack, and Sawyer to me.

static13 said...

I have a simple explanation as to why Colleen was "surprised" when Sun shot her; The Others don't know that Sun is pregnant. A pregnant woman would do anything to protect her unborn child... okay a pregnant woman in her right mind.

So far I'm on the fence about season 3 so far. This episode was good, but I didn't like the crossing over into reality thing with Ben. Hopefully TPTB are gaming us here and we'll find out that the Others aren't telling the whole truth about where they get their info from.

I'm stuck on this whole time thing. Is time slower on the island and therefore it's really 2006 off the island? Is it so slow that the rest of the world as the losties know it is gone? And the Others are easing them into this new world. The information the Others have are from archives... or wikipedia :P. Is the island lost in time or in limbo?

I was thinking the exact same thing. We see this when Sawyer is shocked in punishment for Kate's actions.

Sun has no reason to trust Colleen when she says "we aren't your enemies". What she knows of the Others...kidnapping Claire, trying to kill Charlie and most importantly, she thinks the Others tried to kidnap her once before. Combine that with her pregnancy and of course she shoots.

Midnightstrider said... Rachel B- Ben is likely in his middle to late 30's, meaning he would have been born somtime in the 70's, if the he was born in say, 1970, he would only be 5 years old when the orientation video was made, which makes it highly unlikely that he would be part of the DI back then.

IRL, Micheal Emerson (who plays Ben Linus) is about 51 (born in 1955). I think that is a bit of a strech to put him in his 30s. This would probably mean he was born before the Dharma Initiative was created. However, there's no reason why there couldn't have been people living on the island before the DI.

Hi all.

I'm caught up again. My comments after watching it the first time are:

1) I think Sun killed her lover to protect Jin. Call it a hunch. But I don't buy either that he killed himself or that it was a Paik lackey following up on Jin. I don't think Mr. Paik would give him a second chance like that, or at least not without some major repercussions.

2) I am strongly starting to feel that Julliet is higher up the chain of command then Ben or at least his equal. I have suspicions she is "Him". *However*, I'm not convinced that I'm not just being lead to think that is the case. The rumours were that she was meant to be Jacks love interest etc etc, so a lot depends on whether those rumours were intended as a red herring or if they are part of the audience manipulation. I think without those rumours we'd all be thinking she was the head cheese right now and that makes me doubt it quite a lot.

3) Are all the others born/raised on the Island (or at least came to the island when very young)? Is that why they have an inherant racism to them (or seem to). I'm also wondering if Julliet is the exception.

4) The appearance of Alex at the camp asking about that boy is interesting and starts to make me doubt my initial suspicon that Sawyers first break out "attempt" was staged for him to demonstrate the futility of trying to escape. Of course even if she is reluctant she is still an "Other".

Finally a note on the Losties this season, so far:

1) Sayid is slowly becoming my favorite character at the moment. Sun and Jin aren't too far behind either. They all have very interesting pasts and the actors are doing a fantastic job of showing how their personal issues with themselves and others are boiling over inside them.

2) Sawyer has obviously got more screen time and was already one of the most interesting and entertaining characters. So he's not moved up in my favorite list but he's definetly staying strong there. Lost would be such a drastically different show without him and it is good to see he is developing while still being Sawyer.

3) What has happened to Kate? She seems to have lost her edge (maybe it's the dress) and really if I see her being held hostage one more time to pacify another Lostie I think I'm just going to have to shoot her myself! She had a lot more potential then just being the hot babe, love interest and damsel in distress. But at the moment she seems to be being used in as a walking cliché. Episode one - shower scene with Kate, Episode two - Hostage scene with Kate. Really guys, time to develope her a bit I think.

4) Jack was never a favorite of mine and really his reaction to the Red Sox thing was totally predictable. I'm not saying it was bad writting because frankly he is a predictable character so it made perfect sense he is so easy to manipulate. However my opinions of him are actually improving. I think this traumatic experience may be just what he needs to get in touch with his own dark half and darker feelings. I've always kinda felt he was a very self-repressed type of guy, but with something ready to explode underneath. However so far he's not exploded and I *really* wanna see what happens when he does.

5) Despite my feelings that Julliet may be "Him", I kinda hope she isn't and that she does end up joining up with the losties because I think we need more interesting women in the regular cast. We've lost three women from the set of main characters since the series started and while two of them may not have been particularly liked they were at least more interesting then Claire. Lol.

and that's it after the first viewing. :)

Hello TLC!

I'm thinking this episode is all about lying and reasons for lying.

When I saw the part with Sun as a little girl, I thought at first, isn't she bad....she got her maid fired just so she wouldn't get into trouble. Then I thought about it some more and even though the scene makes it look like Mr. Paik is this patient, guiding father, maybe it's misleading and Sun has to lie to save herself. Paik is a very unforgiving man and believes in violence towards those who "shame" him--he could be violent to his daughter as well.

I believe the others are lying about being able to get off the island. I think there's a higher power above them, the "Him" Benry talked about while he was locked in the hatch. They are afraid of "Him".

My fav part of the episode is realizing Sawyer's plan to size up the enemy. So, the kiss was just a ploy to get the others to come after him? Was the kiss a lie?

2Sweet2BSour said... Harking back to TLE, given that Lost is 2004, and TLE is present day, is it possible that when TWM says in the Sri Lanka vid that "the Dharma initiative failed" he's actually referring to the Losties, and their potential escape?

Remember, in TLE, the show "Lost" is fictional.

I think the DI failed way before the Lostaways showed up. The Hanso Foundation cancelled the DHARMA Initiative in 1987. When Jack asked Juliet about the DI (in 2004), she said "that was a long time ago"

capcom i agree with your earlier comments ,but i think the barefoots are a seperate faction from the suburbothers and the barefoots are the ones that kidnapped the kids, teddy bear on a string. Ben asked for list within three days so it doesnt make much sense that he would start taking people the first night. There has not been a trace of the kids in the others so far this year. The suburbothers get blamed for all that stuff even if they only did some. I almost think that they make people be part of the barefoots first in order to hone their survival skills then bring them into the suburbs. That might explain why henry never got soup, like juliette started out as his capture.

Hey Fenris...very good points. I especially agree with your observations on Kate's new role. Her semi-clad captive vulnerability seems to exist solely to fulfill some sort of woman-in-chains fantasy. I'm bugged by the gratuitous Kate bending over to pick up rocks scene. Last season they killed off three women. Now Kate is reduced to damsel in distress.

Maybe the characters on the show have daddy issues, but it's beginning to look like the writers may have some "mommy" issues. ;>)

Though I do really like the character of Juliet. She's very complex. We've seen her a little vulnerable, a little incompetent (muffins), rebellious, clever, manipulative, in charge, physically strong and ruthless.
Excellent!
