What They Died For - Season 6, Episode15

Tonight, while Jack's group searches for Desmond, Locke comes up with a new plan.

Since there were no promotional photos to be found for tonight's episode, we're honoring our own Romeo and Juliet, Jin and Sun. Whatever they died for, it better be good.

I never thought of Claire. Good one. We never seen where she ended up.

AL- close up magic is on Letterman!

Black Swan said...

In rewatching just now, I noticed Ben finally has his long look at himself in the mirror (right after he tells the nurse, 'It's DR. Linus'), then Locke comes in all ready to call the police on Desmond, but stops when Ben tells him that he said he was helping Locke to 'let go'

Just Thinking said...

Ah- so no one new in the picture- like Mom.

Yes- Sayid said Des was in the well, and Ben said someone helped him-I think she's the only one left. I think Sayid lift him there in case Locke went back to check and see when Sayid said to look if he wanted.

Amy Lynn said...

@JT, we saw it! He was pretty good, except for that one unfortunate shot.

Black Swan said...

JT, I know who mom is from spoilers, but you don't want spoilers, right?

Black Swan said...

So, Jacob is a kid running around the Island until he gets his ashes, but no.. he showed up as an adult to Hurley before. I still don't get it with the young Jacob on-island this year, some people seeing him and some not.

Just Thinking said...

No, no, no--I'm OK to wait thanks!

Black Swan said...

LOL, that's what I thought, JT. Actually there's only two spoilers that I know and that's one of them.

Just saw the Thanksgiving pic and it's Christian, David, and Jack for sure.

Beverly said...

I wonder if Ben and Widmore might have actually planned out a con against smokey. Ben could have had a kevlar vest in his secret room and Miles most likely left via the "secreter" room. Widmore's little whispering to Locke was to convince him that Ben didn't know anything, when in fact he does.

Just Thinking said...

Possible, possible-but Ben did just visit Alex's grave-once again- could be either way.

I wonder- is there going to be some kind of final scene at the airport? Seems like Jack may end up there looking for Dad. Can they corral everyone else there?

Black Swan said...

Lostit, I think anything is possible at this point. Locke did give Ben a funny look when he said he wants to see 'this' meaning his meeting up with Widmore.

Black Swan said...

JT, a final scene at the airport might be interesting, but it looks like they are leading it to everyone meeting up at the concert.

Just Thinking said...

Yes- we should see the concert for sure and find out what Eloise's deal really is.

About who sees young Jacob- maybe it is just who he decides to let see him. Same as adult Jacob- now they all can see him.

Beverly said...

I wonder where Hurley and Sayid are going.

Just Thinking said...

Rewatching in the middle of the night- lol.

When Des is making the deal with Kate & Sayid he says almost the same as MIB to Richard on the Black Rock. I'll set you free if you promise to do what I ask.

Just Thinking said...

So at the very end Locke says he wants to destroy the island, but he told Ben that the reason Ben should help was that he would be left with the island. ??

Black Swan said...

LOL, yeah Jacob and MIB are still playing games, but with Jacob's rules now. Locke as MIB and Ben.. what a pair of liars. LOL! We'll find out who's better?

There was a good-cop (Sawyer) and bad cop (Ana Lucia) tonight. And Kate got dissed by both Jack (on Island) and Sawyer (in the sideways) tonight.

I just thought of something.. Ben ended up blowing away Widmore. Wasn't there something about they couldn't kill each other? idk, getting tired.

Just Thinking said...

Yes BS- back in the hotel Widmore asks if Ben has come to kill him, and Ben says we both know I can't do that.- Least, that's what I remember.

Black Swan said...

Right, JT. So, on-Island he CAN kill him, but not off-Island I guess?

Black Swan said...

If I wasn't so tired I'd look back and see who said maybe Ben and Widmore are really working together and he had a bullet proof vest on that he found in Ben's closet? Oh, I gotta go to bed. LOL!

morning,

fantastic ep. one of the few times i really engoued the FS.

you think Danielle saw the script and was excited that she had a scene after 6 seasons where she looks clean and has her hair done.

I still have hope for Ben to end up on the right side of things, but it would make sense that jack and ben end up as jacob and mib.

Amy Lynn said...

Still thinking about last night's episode. I love Jack's arc this season. It has made the character so excellent to watch.

One nitpick. If Kate was crossed off when she became a mother, why weren't Sun and Jin crossed off when Ji Yeon was born?

Amy Lynn said...

I also have another question. (Sorry) Miles said that he lived in New Otherton 30 years before Ben did. But that's not true. Ben was absolutely there before Miles and Co. flashed there.

bigdog said...

AL - maybe just a misdirection play against MIb

Jack did go a long way to get to this point.

as a adament sawyer and juliet guy. i actually was touched when kate came and put her head on sawyer shoulder i even let out an awww. (only a little one though)

they really have turned the tied in the flash sideways to make it enjoyable.

widmore explaining jacob visited him before john locke turned the donkey wheel explains a lot. It explains how widmore seemed all evil when he sent the frieghter, but was back on team jacob by the time locke showed up.

desmond had no intention of hitting john locke again, he was there to trigger ben remembering, which is curious because ben is not on the manifest.

the first rule of a con is to make the victim think things are their idea. I think widmore was ready to die. They are conning flocke into thinking sinking the island as he escapes is his own idea.

i have a strong feeling that the remaining candidates are in the running to be the new smokey. Which includes ben and claire since it's just chalk on a cave wall.

mib can't be the first person to be the smoke because the Egyptian glyphs have references to smokey presumably from before across the sea.

i wonder who told ben he could summon the monster from the barracks?

i also wonder who did the water part of the donkey wheel since mib said they were planning to do it.

i also think its interesting that mother destroyed mib's camp and filled in the well. within the time mib was passed out.

i think that mib being thrown into the light triggered the smoke to go into security mode and thus the cave to the light sealed up.

mib isn't the light because we know the light is still at the heart of the island.

Desmond is really a man made candidate and failsafe in case jack fails. Every mouse has a least 2 holes on the blat door map comes to mind. Jacob's knowledge only goes up until he anointed jack, he doesn't know what will come next.

funny that ana lucia is such a crooked cop and desmond is in no hurry to make her remember.

jacob's rationale about the candidates being alone doesn't really jive with all of the 360 candidates.

motherhood explains claire being crossed off the wall, but not why linus is crossed off unless it was alex or roger.

i'm really curious to what desmond has planned in the flash sideways. I think the sacrifice widmore asked him to make hasn't happened yet.

2costa said...

maybe the rule about killing with ben and widmore was referencing that ben coulnd't kill him until the island was done with him or until jacob was dead.

i also think their are 2 tiers of jacob's touch. the first tier is that you are drawn to the island and have candidate protection from jacob if he touches you. Taking the jacob communion is what makes you not age.

2costa said...

i also think jack looked like he had some kind of revaltaion when he drank jacob's water. Almost like he now knows all the rules or what its all about.

i also liked how jacob never told jack to kill mib, jack just inferred it from jacob saying he had to do what he couldn't.

Amy Lynn said...

Does Jack make the rules now?

Fenris said...

Hi all. That was awesome. So very sad it's almost over though.

I am wondering if Ben's plan for the walkies was so he could get Miles to go back and find out from Widmores dead body what he knew (as Ben always intended for him to die and also knew that the only reliable way to get the truth was via Miles ability). That of course makes the story assumption that Widmore and/or Smokey lied (otherwise it'd be irrelevant).

We still don't know the relevance of the light or the islands survival. Apparently the world is doomed without it but why?

Actually I had a thought about why the light needed a protector before there was a Smokey to protect it from. Seems the light can only be found by it's protector, but if that only happens while it has a protector then without one anyone could find it, become Smokey and then destroy it.

I still have no idea how the sideways word is linked in. But that is at least something they will definitely have to answer.

Just wondering how Desmond's ability to withstand electromagnetism will be used. Widmore wanted him in order to save the island and Flocke wants him to destroy the island. Is the island going to be sunk (like we saw in the FS)?

Tess315 said...

Maybe Desmond's ability to withstand electromagnetism is how he can stop MIB from destroying the island. But it could also be something MIB could exploit to destroy the island. I don't know it should be interesting though.

Amy Lynn said...

Does anyone else think that ALTDes is not an ALT, but rather, just Des flashing back and forth, like he usually does?

Tess315 said...

Amy Lynn
It's a possibility but I think he's just aware in both time lines.

2costa said...

i think desmond will have to go into the light and live long enough to detonate all that c4 that ben had

i agree amy lynn about des

2costa said...

actually sayid's girl is right there really is no distinction between the two. I do think that desmond has knowledge beyond the moment in time he is in, like of the future.

Memphish- I understand what you mean about not knowing what to root for. Maybe that's a good thing, but it certainly mixes with one's viewing emotions!

Extremely disappointed that 30 minutes got added to accommodate 50 minutes worth of commercials.

Here's my thought of the day about Ben's comment about "I thought I was summoning the monster, but the monster was summoning me" thing.... perhaps thats a metaphor for the worst in all of us. We think
we control it, use it, and it accomplishes "good" (well, at least our own selfish version of it)... but really, IT controls us we're just blinded to it.
(kind of the Biblical "flesh" vs. "spirit")....

so it takes on the evil intents of whoever it possesses... taking the "worst' in them and magnifying it to the power of smoke... but anyway, since Ben was in the presence of Flocke (smokey), he again, had the worst in him "summoned" despite his breakthroughs with Ilana et al. (sorry, I still want to thing they were genuine)

So what's Eloise's charity???

Capcom- we've seen one Kevlar vest and an apparently dead Keamy before, why not Wid . If not, we've had 3 anticlimatic and unexplained deaths/lives in one ep...and that's not a good stat.

The secreter room... doesn't it lead down to those catacombs? where they got the jughead? i forgot Miles took a Walkie....

That Whispering between Wid and Flocke to me, is as bad as the A&E flashback to S1 was to many of you... ugh... novice way of doing it....(and I could have done without the chanting before drinking the water... but anyone know what he said?)

2c... excellent observations about MIB can't be the light, and Every mouse has at least two holes...

NO SPOILERS, NO SPOILERS, NO SPOILERS PLEASE!!!

TheOtherLisa said...

Ok... grumpy blogger seems to have eaten comments that it seemed to have posted--- and not wanting to triple post anything.... did/does anyone see my thoughts on the monster summoning Ben vs. Ben summoning the monster?

Just Thinking said...

Hey Lisa- I see your posts-maybe they are like the dead people-sometimes you see um- sometimes not!

Bens comment made me think of one of the Gallery 1988 art pieces that came out of the ARG- it is Ben with Smokey on a leash going for a bathroom break walk. At the time we started to wonder who was leading who.

I think you have a good idea about Smokey bringing out the worst in Ben- but also there is the whole idea that Ben thought he was in control of events, and instead he was just part of Smokey's plan. That is very clear to Ben now- which makes me think he might want to get back at Smokey just like he did at Widmore.

Beverly said...

TOL and JT, I like your thoughts on Ben. I want to cling to his redemption scene with Ilana being real, too. That's why I stubbornly believe that he's actually working with Widmore against smokey. Ben always has a plan and this time I think he's using it for selfless purposes (and Wid's not really dead).

I think maybe Desmond as a last resort is that he is sent into the light. Because of his special-ness, he won't turn into a smoke monster but will be empowered to destroy smokey by the force of the light.

Beverly said...

Anyone see the top 10 on letterman? I liked #5 the best along with #3. And of course #1 is what will really happen.

Beverly said...

I'm rewatching last night's episode and this is a really minor nit, but in the breakfast scene, I noticed that they had milk in a pitcher. Does anyone actually do that? Don't most people just keep it in the carton so it won't go bad and get wasted? Or am I the odd one for being pragmatic about it? (OK, I'm odd for noticing and being bothered by it, but...)

2costa said...

the only way widmore will have lived is if the island isn't done with him. His sub was destroyed, his people were all dead and he delivered desmond, and Ben got his revenge, i'd say his story arc is complete. I think widmore was all good with dying because he realizes the endgame on the island involves everyone dying except jacob's candidate. Widmore is way too slick to trust ben and hide in a closet, he wanted to die and also realizes that ben figures into the endgame, after smokey has said it twice im starting to think ben is gonna be the new smoke. Since mib killed mother and ben killed jacob is makes total sense. I think the key is to have someone that doesn't want to leave the island become the face of the smoke. I also think that jives with widmore not wanting to let ben hear his secret, but let mib hear it. At the same time i see widmore not wanting ben to know the whole story, like mother not telling jacob much or jacob not telling jack much. It's because the more you know the more you lose your free will choice. As i said before i think its highly likely that the light got closed up and dispatched smokey to protect the light's borders because an interloper(mib) breached the light. Maybe imprisoning people in the smoke, seeking the light, is how the light stays pure. Perhaps the light is at it's most vulnerable now because smokey is supposed to protect it and if someone goes into the light now, it can't expel them as part of the smoke.

they explained how widmore knew stuff because of jacob's visit, but what is eloise up to, she knew about a lot way before the freighter.

I also think that mother let mib live with the humans for 30 years so he would see how evil they were and it would inform his smokemonsterness later on. She wanted to insulate jacob from people so he wouldn't lose faith in humanity.

2costa said...

widmore used his own death as a way to con flocke into thinking ben is all the way on team smokey, which i think is false. At this point in the game i don't look at dying or killing on the island as evil or bad. I think widmore realizes the only chance at making the sideways stick is for everyone to die on the island in 2008(i used to say 2007) but i guess island time is jan 2008.

i also thought it was funny that richard thought smokey still cared about him joining him enough that he could slow him down.

2costa said...

i think part of why flocke wants to sink the island as well as leave is there are still pesky meddlers like hawkings in the real world that could theoretically reverse all the carnage we are seeing on the island if it stays afloat and ultimately foil his plan.

Tess315 said...

I think Desmond wants the people in the FS to let go of the FS. He wants them to remember the island. Why do you think it's important for them to remember the island?

TheOtherLisa said...

Well...sorry for the double post then... what a frustrating night...type, post, gone...type, post, gone.... repeat cycle!

My thoughts on Ben being summoned, not vice versa- do line up with Ben really being only a pawn in Smokey's plan... meaning that, when we're seeking revenge, or our own way... sometimes, our greed, anger (ala claire), lust for power, whatever the vice, is what's really in control... "we" are not. So... Smokey calls out to whatever of those motivations he can play on (Ben = power, Claire=anger)... and its actually like a long con... WE think its our idea and a good one, and we're in control, when really, its self destruction.

I hope I'm explaining that right.

Still cranky about Alpert's millisecond demise.

So, what is the weekend schedule? A friend said that there was something on Sat???

And, will someone post the Letterman top 10?

Awesome Zort, the more we can get here on our final night together the better!

True, 2C, MIB has to make damm sure that no one can show up at the island and start the protecting ball rolling again. That, and making sure that the Leprechaun tunnel of gold is gone for good.

It is weird, TOL, at first my post last night was right behind Maven's about the Letterman thing, and then a couple hours later, two posts were in between me and Maven. Weird.

Tess315 said...

TAV was right btw I seen a commercial and the pilot will be enhance Sat. I heard a long time ago all the answers could be found in the pilot. Whether that's true or not I guess we'll see.

Based on some tweets I seen the Times Talk Lost (is that right? :) ) was pretty good. They showed a finale clip!

Josh Holloway is scheduled to be on Kimmel tonight.

2costa said...

i doubt that richard is dead!

since adam and eve are mib and mother, i bet we'll see island rose and bernard too, they were time flashing just like everyone else. so they should be in 2008.

i think christian in the missing pieces talking to vincent, was the real christain, he probably had a real human form like jacob did because they were close to the light or it was jacob and that's how he knew jack landed in the bamboo or at least was watching.

i guess the answers that carlton said would be answered in the body of the show, but not the finale, are 20+ minutes of extra finale footage that will be on the dvd, but juicy answers not fluff.

Beverly said...

I'm reading Doc Jensen's recap of this week's episode and I like some of what he has to say. It's the longest one he's done yet, though (12 pages!).

One thing he said made me chuckle. It's about the significance of the SuperBran in the FS:

"A metaphor for Island Enlightenment. A bowl of this stuff will really get things moving inside. Spiritually speaking. "

That NY Times article is pretty lame! Last night (and always) Damon and Carlton talked about how important the characters are to the story. I think they've told a fabulous story in a very innovative way.

I thought the article was pretty fair. S1 WAS the best, although s4 and S5 are great.

S6, for the most part, has been rushed and not that interesting.
