First! I was just going to post this on the previous one and then I saw Dennis' comment for the Podcast post! Timing is everything! LOL

Great podcast again, guys! Your whacky theories are always pretty whacky! LOL

Agree with you that the 815 Losties arrival by air (possibly going through a correct bearing) vs Rousseau's crew arrival by sea (like Desmond and the Black Rock crew) would make a difference as to who would have the symptoms of the "sickness". Also, they were scientists who possibly had exposure to radiation or EM.

I think Desmond would have had no trouble finding Dan at Queens College since he did tell him to go to the Physics Dept., and I'm sure, crazy Prof. Faraday would be well-known to everyone in that area of the campus.

Also, agree that Widmore seems to be behind all of this...looking for the island since he got that Hanso Journal in 1996.

But I see Darkaardvark is #5! WOW! Congratulations to you!

I'll have to go look how low I am.
WOW! is right Darkaardvark must have picked one heck of a team.

Well I guess I won't check it. He has it as a download and I don't have the software to download it in. Ah Well.

For those that were asking, my sister had a little boy last night 8lb 8oz/3.855kg, both doing well. It's gonna be 6 weeks till I see him in the flesh (the photos I've seen he's a real cutie)

2costa, thanks for pointing out Dr Ray was that dude from CSI, it was really starting to bug me (and I've learnt to stay away from IMDB when it comes to LOST actors.

I've just listened to the podcast and thought, is the small toy plane Kate's Constant ?

It would explain why she is so desparate to get hold of it.

I heard an interesting idea about Daniel and the cards on Jay and Jack. The caller thinks Daniel may be working on his memory so that in the future when he comes unstuck he'll be able to remember what he needs to remember to ground him like Desmond had to remember the machine settings and Penny's phone number.

I went back this morning to check and he has it up where you can check on line now.
I'm now down to 1341.

Hey, Carol - if you're around... :)

I looked on imdb too, and there's no mention of the character I was thinking was Ms. Klugh on Torchwood at all. Not Freema - the nurse or doctor who interviewed Freema and later helped inject her. Someone let me know if I'm seeing things!

memphish said...

Be careful about clicking on LOST links today. Make sure that they aren't going to that TV Guide article. I almost made the mistake from the Pop Candy blog. At least I think I did. The fact that it mentions "burning questions" made me avoid it. Thanks Martysbaby for the warning.

2costa said...

sayids girl those were all old episodes, there was no spoiler about it, nothing about the future shows or actors just the ones he's been in, plus as someone pointed out imdb isnt reliable. I didnt have any inside information i think imdb is why i thought three epsidodes because that has been up there for months, but i didnt mention it til all his episodes aired...
so has anyone heard if richard will be back this season since cane was canceled or isnt coming back this year

2costa said...

kates toy airplane being kates constant only makes sense if she is unstuck in time in the flashback to the bank, or why else would she be desperate to find it, but i have been thinking that more and more that some people are gonna get unstuck in episodes to come and that we could look at past flashbacks under a differnt light if we are wondering if that person has any prior knowledge of the future...

Melissa_Lossa said...

I'm SO weak! I couldn't resist the TV Guide article....

For what it's worth, the big spoiler is probably something you'd assume anyway - at least I did.

And because I'm that kind of girl, here are the non-spoiler sections of the article, which are kind of cute:

Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet): "Why did Juliet become such a badass? Who trained her — the Others?"
Cuse: I think there was probably some martial arts in New Otherton.
Lindelof: She probably went out shooting with Friendly back in the day, which is why she can handle a firearm so well. But the real inspiration for Juliet being a badass was Elizabeth herself. When she read for the part, she had this huge cast on her arm and was talking about her days of kickboxing....
Cuse: And then she beat Damon up.

Holloway: "Sawyer needs a freakin' haircut! Since I'm living with Hurley, can he cut my hair?"
Lindelof: [Laughs] That episode's a casualty of the strike.
Cuse: But yeah, Josh can have a haircut.
Lindelof: Josh might've forgotten, but this is a recurring request from him. He's like, 'My hair's getting long, can't Kate cut it?' So we did an episode [in Season 2] where Kate cuts his hair. I love how Josh chooses who's going to be his barber at any given time!

The rest of it is a couple of hints about what's coming up this season, and some clarification on some time issues.

Thanks for posting those Melissa-Lossa.

Also, I got a survey from Neilson. I hope that means we will help with the ratings in the future.

I checked the fantasy league and I'm up to #94. I'm happy with that. ;)

Melissa_Lossa said...

Man, I was all excited that with a Desmond/Penny heavy episode, I was finally going to get some fantasy points! However, I got killed in that they didn't count any flashbacks or flashforwards for Des. Plus, non of my other characters were even in the episode!

Still I move up 152 places - I'm close to cracking the 2000 mark now! ;)

Thanks for posting those TV Guide highlights, ML!

I know what you mean, Memphish. Spoilers are lurking everywhere! Everyone be careful out there!

Scoutpost said...

Morning everyone! I just heard Yun Jin Kim (Sun) is about to be on The View this morning. I'm so excited because I always miss these interviews and I think I'll actually get to see this one (not that I expect too much though). They just showed the preview again for this week. (Can't believe we still have 2 days to wait!) Looks like Charlotte clonks Kate on the head. I'm starting to dislike Charlotte as much as the duo who shall remain nameless. :)

My day started out with a dead car battery when I went out to take my daughter to school. Hubby left for out of town early. Yuk start but things are ok now, hope it stays that way.

Main Entry: mael·strom
Pronunciation: \ˈmāl-strəm, -ˌsträm\
Function: noun
Etymology: obsolete Dutch (now maalstroom), from malen to grind + strom stream
Date: 1682
1 : a powerful often violent whirlpool sucking in objects within a given radius
2 : something resembling a maelstrom in turbulence .. jusr seems too crazy that hed have this name that seems to describe the island, but sometimes there is more meaning and sometimes its just a name..

As for Torchwood, I watched the ep again (I download it) and in the credits there was a Jacqueline Boatswain, no photo on IMDB but I Googled her and that's who you are thinking of. On IMDB she's Jacqui Boatswain. She was a Tongue Tied dancer!

I don't know for sure, because I don't keep track of episode titles very well. But I think lost-media has the next episode title up when you click on the pictures for The Constant. But it could be an old episode for all I know.

Retrospectively, I should have mentioned it before I put in those links to pictures of Penny's hands, but I don't think the direct links to the pictures showed anything but the picture itself.

I really didn't figure too many people were as obsessed as I was with the whole ring thing anyway. Sorry if anyone saw something they didn't mean to.

I heard an interesting idea about Daniel and the cards on Jay and Jack. The caller thinks Daniel may be working on his memory so that in the future when he comes unstuck he'll be able to remember what he needs to remember to ground him like Desmond had to remember the machine settings and Penny's phone number.
If that is true, then Dan has a really SHORT memory since he cannot remember 3 cards. Unless they were doing some really complicated memory game that they didn't show, or maybe she just flashed the cards in front of him really quickly and he had to remember them. But I don't think so. I think Dan is suffering from some memory problems due to EM exposure/travel.

I guess we've just about discussed everything we can this week w/o further info. Good theorizing everyone!

Capcom said...

Heheh, too true Scoutpost! And Dan would have a pretty difficult time getting his PhD if his memory was that bad normally. :-)

FWIW, I've been thinking about the stormy event horizon area around the island, and how time on the island and on the boat appear to be the same, as per the calendar in sickbay. I wonder if it's something like an electronic PN junction. That is, whatever makes up the island's EM forces, or field, has some kind of boundary which doesn't just fizzle out as it gets farther away from the island. That is, it's got a definite edge to it.

Where that edge butts up against normal non-island atmosphere, it creates the storm field, or event horizon, where the edges of normal atmospheric conditions, sort of mingle with the island's EMF atmospheric conditions, and they combine at the edge like a PN junction, but forming this very turbulent area of mixed conditions that is difficult to get through, for various cosmic reasons.

The reason that I was thinking this is because of the calendar. If Walt comes back, and time hasn't passed farther off-island, how can they expain his growth? Maybe they can, if you can get caught in this "atmospheric junction" area, for "years" while you age, and then you manage to get back on the bearing and make it out. Then time would not have changed in the world, but it has passed for you while you were trapped. If Mike has no experience at sea, he may have had some trouble keeping the bearing, especially if the boat's getting tossed in the storm.

Oh well, just a thought. Where's Eng27 when we need him?! :-)

maven said...

Morning all: I think we're all resting up before another amazing episode tomorrow! I know my brain needs a rest today before it has to think again tomorrow night! LOL

2costa said...

well like with eloise, daniel just had to plan to put her in the maze in the next hour for his time travel thing to work, so what if charlotee had prearrainged to pic three cards and dan was trying to remember them sight unseen from charlotte intention to show the cards, fo rthis to be true the dan we know that went to the island is already unstuck and maybe a future version, which might further explain why he was crying when he saw 815 was found cause as far as i know desmond never told him about 815, just the island, so it would seem that he would have to have future flashes to be sad that the survivors never made it to the ilansd, so he might have felt like the timeline he saw in the future had chandged?

Funny recap of Eggtown. You can find more of these recaps here. There's not one for The Constant yet.

memphish said...

I should also mention that those links include adult language.

Scoutpost said...

capcom- your theory sounds good to me!

2costa- I think your theory or something like it is a possibility. I do think that his memory loss and his crying episode at the discovery of the freckage are key to something- unstuckness? I guess we'll have to wait a bit longer to find out.

Scoutpost said...

That recap of Eggtown was almost better than the episode itself. LOL

When Miles is talking to Naomi's body in a hushed tone, he is actually talking in reverse - much like the Whispers. When the audio is reversed he is clearly saying "You've got to see it through" seems to back up our notion that the spirits(jacob, charlie) seem to reside in circular time, i wonder if getting unstuck you could ever flash to your spirit post death?

Happy LOST Day LoCos! I'm in the process of Spoiler-Fixing Doc Jensen's latest. I'll post the fixed link when I'm done. In the meantime Kyle do not read the first 1/2 of the first page of Doc Jensen. I've warned you.

memphish said...

I've posted the Doc Jensen at Spoiler Fixed. It's very instructive about how to think about what happened during The Constant. Some of you will be happy with Doc Jensen's theorizing and some (Kyle and LOST2010) probably will not.

There are some format issues with the post that I went back and forth on and never fully resolved, so if it looks a little funky, forgive me. The goods, minus the spoilers, are all there.

In case you aren't as spoiler averse as some of us and want to know generally what I XXXed out, I'll say there is information about things that will air tonight on that first page and at the very end. You have been warned.

Zort70 said...

Dennis said...

What it says to me is that spoilers are not always true.

Good morning everyone! Happy Lost day!

Mempish, great article... thanks!

Here's my take on course correction, based on the Doc's comments. You can't change the future, but you can change the past. however, changing the past doesn't affect the future, because everything will eventually course correct and you will end up at the same place, just by a different path.

Unknown said...

I've become a known anti-spoiler Zealot! Who knew? ; )

memphish said...

I agree with your summary Dennis. I'm kind of surprised that they've said that this changed things and essentially created an alternative timeline when it comes to Desmond's 1996-2004. I guess this explains the 2 photos. In timeline 1 Des. takes the photo in timeline 2 Penny does, but I just realized that doesn't work since the photo was taken before Des joined the Royal Scots. I think I won't try to think about it anymore.

Zort70 said...

Something about the photo, on the main page of the blog is the shot of Desmond with the photo.

Notice how there is a white border around it, as if it was printed on a piece of paper from a printer.

I'll have to check but I thought that when Naomi showed it to the losties that found her, it was a normal photo without any edging.

memphish said...

Zort70, that's Naomi's copy of the photo. It looks like it was Xeroxed. But Des had 1 photo in the Hatch, and Penny had a photo on her nightstand.

Zort70 said...

It's either a continuity error or my mind playing tricks on me.

How cool for you to have a Lost Community friend to watch the show tonight with you. By the preview it looks like it going to be a good one.
I have to say this is the best season since season 1 it's a shame it had to be spoiled by the writers strike. I would liked to have seen what they had planned originally.

Zort70 said...

Does the timeline theory from the article mean that between the point of starting the "time leap" (for want of a better phrase), and the end of it, depending on which way you are going, that there will be multiple timelines between the two points.

So think of the straight time line you then have multiple lines leaving at one point and arriving at the other.

It's sort of like a branching universe theory but only branching for a relatively small amount of time before coming back in line.

Here's a scary thought, can you have a time leap within a time leap ?

Tess315 said...

zort70
I think the picture you posted of "the picture" is the one Naomi had in the book Catch 22.

memphish said...

I think what Desmond says in the article about Minkowski may indicate you can have a leap within a leap, but I also think we shouldn't worry about it in this point.

At this point, some people leaving the Island may get unstuck in time. If they do get unstuck, they may go forward or backward. It's hard to say if you can go to more than 1 place. It seems like you just went from past point X to present or from present to future point X and didn't start going lots of different places.

I think in terms of timeline, prior to 12/24/04 Desmonds life went from 1996-12/24/04 in timeline 1; after 12/24/04 Desmond went from 1996-12/24/04 in timeline 2 and now both timeline 1 and timeline 2 exist for Desmond. Actually I'm not sure about this part. Does he remember timeline 1 or only timeline 2? In any event in both timeline 1 and timeline 2 all the big things that the universe wanted to have happen like Desmond going to the Island and Charlie dying have happened. And nothing Desmond did in timeline 2 changes any future flash we've seen on the show.

memphish said...

In paragraph 1 Desmond should read Damon. It's hours until the new show airs and I'm already confused. :D

Dennis said...

Zort70 said... Something about the photo, ... I thought that when Naomi showed it to the losties that found her, it was a normal photo without any edging.

Here is the screenshot from 'D.O.C". It also has the white border.

BTW, while I was just looking through the screenshots, I noticed a flag on the wall in "the Constant". According to Wikipeda, the blue flag with the white cross represents the letter M, and the flag code:

My vessel is stopped and making no way through the water.

Zort70 said...

Sayid'sgirl - I think youre right, I just posted two links of the same scene, just taken at slightly different times.

I think the point of them mentioning that fact that it doesn't happen to everyone, and only to people that have been exposed to high levels of radiaton, means that we don't have to worry about anyone else getting unstuck, with the possible exception of Locke.

Zort70 said...

Isn't the flag just the Scottish flag ?

It would make sense as they are on a (Hawaiian) Scottish army base.

Dennis said...

LOL, yeah... that makes more sense :)

memphish said...

I can agree with that Dennis. I think we have to worry about Dan too, and possibly Danielle. Maybe even Juliet if she leaves differently from how Ben normally lets his people leave. It's more fun if I have to worry about people. :)

Zort70 said...

If Juliet is affected and Ben was going to let her leave, does that mean he would have been quite happy to let her experience the "effect" and die ?

CattyGirl said...

Last night, I turned the tv on and I still had the discover science channel on from watching a special series on the internet... memphish said...

Ben and Juilet haven't seen each other since she switched sides. She went back to the beach before Jack's trek to the promised land ran into Ben. And you know how Ben is -- he thinks info is on at best a "need to know" basis, so anything he might know about leaving he hasn't revealed yet.

I'm reading Catch 22 (because I got Catch 22 and Slaughterhouse 5 mixed up - but it's okay - I had planned to read both eventually).

Today's chapter had the following to say about time -

When you are miserable and bored, time lasts longer. So in order to lead a longer life, you must endure long periods of misery and boredom. When you are miserable time stretches out. (The chararacter claims there is no way to disprove this if you are honest.)

AND

When you are young, you have a 10 week summer break that lasts a million years but is over in the blink of an eye.

This has nothing to do with Lost I suppose but it makes as much sense as anything else.

Happy Lost Day Loco's! Lexington is a ways for me to go, but I would seriously be in for meeting at the end of the show. How cool would that be?!:) I think it would be rather sad too :( What am I going to do when this is all over? I'm going to have to get a whole new hobby.

Hobby Scoutpost,

LOST is not a hobby, it is a lifestyle. One that must be lived with all the glory that the show contains.

Lexington is far, but three years to plan would make things a bit easier to work out... lol
Is Thrasher in PA?

Well Happy Lost Day everyone,
CCCCC U L8R

my wife is a losty, but she doesnt let me speak during lost:(, so a lot of my theories go dormant then erupt when im online the next day and for that I am sorry to you all...

im not convinced you cant change the future or what else would be the point, but i think the variable of where your unstuck to is based on how or where u leave. If the universe course corrects its not by accident, its because of people like hawkings that make sure that it course corrects...

Happy Lost Day.
My TV Guide is just sitting there, calling my name. The pictures are spoilery enough. In a few days,I'll put it away for awhile. The problem is another one comes next week, and the process starts all over again.
Looking forward to tonight.
What are we going to do during the mini-hiatus later this month? Any suggestions?

It would be so great to meet all of you. My hubby will think I'm so crazy when I say: I have to go to Kentucky to watch an episode of LOST! LOL

Scoutpost: I feel your pain. What WILL we all do when LOST is over in 2010? I think about that all the time. I don't think there will ever be another series that has gripped me like this one. We'll definitely have to hold reunions to stay in touch!

Im gonna try to leave the island at the perfect bearings to be five weeks in the future and get right into the post stike episodes...

Happy Lost Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the cleaned up version of the new Doc Jensen, memphish. But, it makes me think that the "time-travel" explanation by Darlton in this article (as well as the OLP) is so convoluted, it's no wonder casual viewers are confused/tuning out.

How can they show (in one little episode) two people, Desmond and Minkowski, going through the same kind of mind freak, but one has their consciousness travelling forward and the other backwards? They can call it "The Minkowski Exception" and state, "''Looking for specific rules for how all this works will lead you down the path of insanity.'' But frankly, I call it a reason we can't know if anything we've watched so far or will watch in the future is from the perspective we thought it was. Will we need Darlton to explain every episode from now on to not go insane?

2costa, you crack me up:)

Wow, the weirdest thing just happened....

I clicked on "publish your comment" and my computer went whacky and I had to manually shut off and restart.. Spooky...
Maybe I shouldn't have posted those negative thoughts.. the course-correctors are after me... LOL

Black Swan said...

Whew... it didn't happen this time.

On a positive note....

I can't wait for tonight's episode!!!

Carol Dunstan said...

oh to watch Lost with people who don't ask "who's Aaron?" Why don't you all come to Australia, and leave on the same plane out of Sydney to go home...

carol
LOL That would be great wouldn't it?

Black Swan said...

It would be so fun to all get together for the finale! We could rent a hall somewhere centrally located. Hmmmm... how about Hawaii?

Of course, we'd need to rent a really BIG tv... and we could all bring a dish to pass........ lol

maven, I had a bit of a "what will it be like when Lost is all over?" moment last week... a very real sensation, it was like when the LOTR films were all done, the dvds all out, and no more new scenes to be found... it was quite a withdrawal! You could possibly say i haven't gotten over it, looking at my ears in my avatar...

I agree! And reunions are a great idea....

Very interesting points about Catch 22. Lost2010.

Yes, Lost is definitely a lifestyle! I feel your pain Carol. My sister, who watches regularly did not even remember last week that Dez had turned the failsafe key, yikes!

If we meet in Oz, I'll have to start playing the lottery to get airfare. :o)

It would fantastic to be with all of you...people who have the same obsession and know every detail of LOST. I wouldn't get things like "What's Black Rock?" LOL

I would offer up my house with 73" HD and Bose surround sound, but I know most of you guys are in the eastern half of the country (sorry Carol and other Aussies!).

maven said...

Hope we get a lot of great pop-ups in tonight's enhanced episode! I'm tired of trying to "explain" everything to my casual viewer friends! LOL

it IS an obsession . but sometimes you need an obsession .

my friends think i'm a dork . haha

one of my teachers is just as obsessed as all of us if not more, so at least i feel somewhat sane .

So now we are to believe that after three years on the Island, juliet has never seen the monster (or heard it), and NEVER heard the whispers before???

I don't think so, I think she heard them and was like ...
Oh great one of Ben's lackies is about to show up...lol

Joseph Finchum said...

Theres the damn combonation... AAArrrrggggg!

Wow, this ep was creepy. If I ever saw Michael Emerson on the street somewhere, I would run the other way!

The preview was very strange too. I have to watch this again, to let it sink in better.

And I thought for sure that the safe would blow up on Locke. I wonder if Miles still has the grenade in his mouth?!
