Confirmed Dead - Season 4, Episode 2

I'm guessing the title of this episode has nothing to do with the confirmed death of Naomi. Watch tonight as the survivors begin to question the intentions of their supposed rescuers when four strangers arrive on the island. So....What is your theory about the "primary objective" of the parachuting newcomers? Discuss.

2nd maybe.

Let it be mentioned that I never said "Purgatory" in the old thread.

Happy Lost Day and Chinese New Year! WooHoo!

David asks on the front what we think the "primary objective" of the newbies are. Here's a reminder of what Naomi told us last season.

She came from :A ship...freighter, about 80 nautical miles west of here. I'm part of a search and recovery team.
Sayid: So if you weren't looking for us [815], then who were you looking for?
Naomi: [Looks to Desmond] Him.
Sayid: Desmond?
Naomi: My company was hired by a woman named Penelope Widmore. I don't know why. I never met her. She gave us a set of coordinates. We've been conducting a differential GPS grid search ever since.
Sayid: You knew about the island.
Naomi: Island? We were given coordinates in the middle of the bloody ocean. We thought it was a fool's errand...till 3 days ago. I was flying back for the ship when all the sudden the clouds cleared and I saw land. The instruments started spinning. I realized I was going down, so I grabbed my chute and I bailed.

So their cover story is they came for Desmond. As for their real purpose, beats me.

But this brings me back to our who do you go with, Locke or Jack discussion. Given that Naomi said they came to look for Desmond, and presumably retrieve him, I guess it's reasonable to assume if you can rescue one you can rescue all.

SOOOOO happy to be seeing a never-before-seen LOST also!!
I'm sick as a dog, but I'm going to prop myself up and watch tonight, you can count on that!!
Happy LOST day...

maven said...

Hope you're feeling better soon, Ellen!

Well, for those of us who were involved in the Find815 story, we know that who ever was behind the freckage would go to any means to get what they want. Setting up a cover story to "invade" the island would seem simple. I still think Widmore is behind this. He probably stole the coordinates from Penny and made up the cover story that Naomi got. And if they can catch those on island unaware, it will so much easier to take it over.

Black Swan said...

Sorry to hear you're sick, Ellen.

I think the freighties are from Dharma coming to take back their island from the Hostiles.

Ellen said...

Maven, Codysmom-thank you.
I agree with both of you! Dharma & Widmore are very intermingled...and I really believe that Daddy Widmore is definitely trying to take over that island via the revitalized Dharma Initiative. I think that's why Ben and Locke are so intensely concerned about anyone leaving or coming to the island.
xxoo

Capcom said...

Thanks for the script Memphish! Well, that s'plains why Penny doesn't know Naomi, IF she's telling the truth that they didn't meet. Also kills the theory about them being sisters, unless like Jack and Claire, they don't know about each other. Why-o-why does there have to be so many "ifs" and "unlesses" in this story?!

Hope watching the episode makes you feel beter Ellen!

From last thread...Dennis, I'll file in line behind you in thinking that there are not all those ghosts walking around the island. But I would like it if they were zombies!

And yeah, Happy Chinese New Year too! I forgot to get sushi today. :-(

memphish said...

I have no idea who the Boat People are or where they came from or how they got the Des/Pen picture, but I agree with Maven if you can fake a plane crash, you can certainly steal and photocopy a picture. I don't think I believe that those who staged the crash are the same as those on the freighter though. I think those are 2 separate agenda items, possibly financed by the same organization, but I genuinely believe that the Boat people were not expecting to find 815ers. Much like with Ben and his people, the 815ers will likely be throwing monkey wrenches in the Boat peoples' plans.

memphish said...

Can anyone think of any reason why Brianne can post on the last thread, but not this one? She's having a problem. If you have any ideas, please post them on the last thread, or click on my profile and email me and I'll email it on to her.

Memphish said: "Much like with Ben and his people, the 815ers will likely be throwing monkey wrenches in the Boat peoples' plans."

I agree with that too. Poor Losties, all they wanted was to get to LA, and then they crash and they keep being the bees in strange peoples' bonnets without even trying.

maven said...

I just have a feeling that those who staged the freckage would be the same people who want Flight 815 to be over and done with, so they can protect the island. Friends and relatives like Sam Thomas won't continue hounding Oceanic to find 815 and maybe find the island (somehow).

Ellen,
I hope you can still enjoy ,feel better.

lost2010 said...

I don't know why she can't. But this post won't show up on google reader either.

It won't be long now. Crossing my fingers that none of the main characters die tonight. I'm voting for the freckage as the confirmed dead.

memphish said...

It showed up in Google reader for me.

Hey, guys - sorry about TV Guide. I can't find a direct ink anywhere to that interview. There's nothing about Lost on the home page right now - if you click on the "more video" link on the video player, it's four or five from the top. Sorry - that's what happens when I post on the fly!

Feel better, Ellen!

codysmom, are you buried in snow over there? We have over a foot here now!

Are you from Michigan? I thought we had a couple of people from Michigan on here. I thought about you guys when I heard the weather report last night. Here in Ohio we're just getting more rain than we need. I'm not in a flooded area just soggy.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, one wacky post while I'm re-watching the premiere:

Does anybody watch the show Torchwood? It's a spin off of the new Doctor Who, about a team that deals with alien threats. In the first series finale, they opened up a time rift, and a creature came out - a beast named Abbaddon. He was described as having been imprisoned since before time, the son of the Beast, and whenever his shadow passed over someone, they died instantly.

I know everybody on here has been talking about the demon Abbaddon, and I just thought that was interesting.

Melissa_Lossa said...

sayid's girl - Yeah, I'm in West Michigan (Grand Rapids). codysmom lives over on the east side.

We've had a flood watch almost every day, but we've had more snow than rain.

lost2010 said...

Wonder what's wrong with my google reader. I didn't realize there was a new post until I saw Briane post about not being able to comment here.

Speaking of presidential candidates or is it speaking of Lost (I get mixed up), my sister asked me if I would vote for Jorge Garcia this morning. But Jorge isn't old enough to run I don't think. :)

Ellen said...

Thank you, all of you...I could use some good thoughts and prayers.

I am watching last week's epi too. I'll probably look away when Hurley tells Claire about Charlie. I am too sick to be crying!! ;D

I was just explaining to my husband about the Biblical reference to Abaddon. I forgot about that epi of Dr. Who (absolutely LOVE it!). Very interesting info!
xxoo

Capcom said...

Dang Lost2010, you come up with some good ideas! I didn't think of that either.

Capcom said...

I would be watching Torchwood, Melissa, if my cable got the BBC channel! I hope that it comes to SciFi soon. It looks like a great show.

Ange said...

melissa_lossa: I LOVE TORCHWOOD! And yes I thought about Abaddon after that episode when the name came up! It's kind of interesting to think of it in that parallel rather then demon or evil.

Get well Ellen!

Going to do my pre-show prep.

lost2010 said...

capcom - Which? I hate it when I have a good idea and don't even realize it. Or were you being facetious?

lost2010 said...

When does Dr. Who come back to scifi? I miss it.

Melissa_Lossa said...

I just saw a promo on sci fi for new shows in 2008 - Doctor Who was one of them, so they must be getting season four sometime this year.

capcom - Torchwood is so great! What a bummer that you don't get BBC America. The first season just came out on DVD, if you want to go that route. It's the most popuar show in BBC America's history, so I doubt they'll be giving it up to sci fi anytime soon.

lost2010 said...

I can get Torchwood on the on-demand part of my cable. I didn't realize it what it was. I may have to give it a try.

memphish said...

From Michael Eisner whose former company controls LOST: Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner claims to be the bearer of good news. He told CNBC today that producers and the writers were finally seeing eye to eye after months of turmoil.

"It's over," Eisner said. "They made the deal, they shook hands on the deal. It's going on Saturday to the writers in general."

Ange said...

When I go to England this summer I am totally going to get my picture taken in front of the Torchwood fountain in Wales!

Also WOW Memphish what a great thing to post! Lost is about to start and and and there is a strike ending deal...what could be better than that!

Black Swan said...

Yay!!! End of strike!!

melissa, yep.. we got lots of snow yesterday, but not as much as you. We got about 8 inches. My shoulders are sore from shoveling!

so was that a flash forward for Daniel Faraday that we saw at the very beginning, and why not use Sams voice in the ROV footage, would that have been so wrong?

Black Swan said...

OMG, the Christiane 1 !!!!!
Sam?

Tess315 said...

I'd rather see Sam.

Black Swan said...

LOL, Fram......

Tess315 said...

Wait maybe that guy's map is Sam's map.

Darkaardvark said...

ded, what makes you think it was a flashforward? I haven't been playing the ARG so I don't know the timeline on all that stuff, so if the timeline makes it definitely a flashforward, please let me know. To me it seemed like it could be a flashback. But I'll leave that judgment to someone who played the ARG

Black Swan said...

"Tell my sister I love her" was code for "This b#$$$tch you just talked to on the sat phone killed me" ??

Capcom said...

I'm thinking now that I agree with whomever said that, "Tell my sister I love her" is code for "They killed me!"

Lost2010, what you said about the title meaning that they found thd plane and passengers. I didn't even think of that. :-)

Joseph Finchum said...

Sayid'sgirl, I was thinking that too ubtil they said that the footage was from the Christian 1, Which is Sams boat so why wouldn't have been Sam who found it?

So Locke isn't keeping secrets anymore, but Hurley is... I knew that the "My Sister" line was code... props to everyone else who agreed.

Joseph Finchum said...

My thoughts on that are purely, that this is DF and he is suffering from unknown depression, because he was room 23'd and let go. Just my quick theory.

Capcom said...

Heh, well there ya go! :-)

Carol Dunstan said...

I know a lot of you will be in the middle of watching the new ep but I wanted to raise my hand and say "Torchwood fan here too!" (just finished downloading the new ep :D ). I haven't rewatched any of the Torchwood eps (sister has my discs) but there was an Abaddon in Dr Who (Satan Pit I believe the episode was called). I think the new Dr Who is coming back around March, it's been a while since I checked up but it seems to be about then that it comes back

Tess315 said...

Well we have three names from the game so far. Wonder if we'll get anything else in this episode.

Darkaardvark said...

Is Faraday just really weird, or does he have a concussion? I kinda like him, either way. And [unnamed psychic] is intriguing, too.

I think the writers learned a lesson from Paolo and Nikki. By the end of this episode, I'm guessing they'll have fleshed out both the personalities and the back-stories of four characters. That's pretty damn impressive.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Oh, Carol - you're right! I had forgotten about that demon in Doctor Who. Interesting....

jess4ua said...

So Faraday's comment about the light on the island not scattering right....is that our hint that we are on the right track with how the island is hidden?

Ellen said...

ok, cough medicine kickin' in here, did that woman in the flash-whatever call him "Sam" or "Dan" ?
xxoo

Melissa_Lossa said...

Yeah, if I were Jack and Kate, Dan would not be filling me with confidence right now.

Ange said...

Unnamed dead talker psychic=Miles Straumme

Joseph Finchum said...

ok that was the first WTF!?! moment of this episode, whats with the Polar bear collar in Tunisia?

Capcom said...

I thought that the transponder would be tied to a boar! :-B

Melissa_Lossa said...

So, did that bear with the Hydra collar swim to the desert? I wonder how long that skeleton's been there.

Capcom said...

I thought that she said Sam too, Ellen!

Yeah Jess, now your science blog is going to come inhandy! :-D

Darkaardvark said...

Was Tunisia one of the locations of the Hanso Foundation jobs?

Also, for those who are interested: Retrouve means found or recovered. All the translations given were pretty much spot on, and the guy was yelling "Stop... stop." at the end. There was probably more but he talking fast and I couldn't hear everything. I'm also not fluent in French... but for what it's worth.

Capcom said...

Dark, his acting is kind of always like that...sort of spacey.

Tess315 said...

Are these peoples flashes in the future? Maybe future island. Although it was Tunisia wasn't it?
Maybe they are flash backs, can't decide.

Ange said...

I wish I had like 1/10 of an understanding of that Tunisia Hydra colar. AND WHAT WHAT WHAT is a "Lost music video" that will show up in Eli Stone?

Tess315 said...

This episode is definately going to have to be watched more than once.

Joseph Finchum said...

Oh my god, how hard are they trying to keep Lost fans watching that drivvle. A music video, ooooohhhhh I hope Carson Daily introduces it...lol

Darkaardvark said...

I'm guessing the polar bear in Tunisia is part of the same experiment that was mentioned on the blast door map. Something about testing out whether the bears can survive in vastly different environemnts than they are used to. So testing them in a desert would make sense, as well as on an island.

Capcom said...

Yay, the bull!!!!!

Darkaardvark said...

WHO THE HELL GAVE BEN A GUN?

jess4ua said...

So now we know it was a plant! YAY!!! Clues, fun!

Black Swan said...

So, the helicopter pilot knows it's a freckage

Capcom said...

Ditto ont he bears Dark, that's got to be it.

Darkaardvark said...

Blast door map quote: "Stated goal: Repatriation accelerated de-territorialization of URSUS MARTIMUS (polar bear) through gene therapy and extreme climate change"

jess4ua said...

Dark- Good call!

Tess315 said...

Taller ghost Walt. love it.
We've gotten almost all the season 4 clue hunt clues.

Darkaardvark said...

"What is the smoke monster."
"Her name is Charlotte Lewis"

Haha, that made me go "WHAAAT?" before I realized what Ben was talking about.

And, geez, I think I'd be more distressed if Ben was killed that any other person on Lost.

Capcom said...

Oh snap!!! That's the most intelligent thing that I can tink of to say at this moment! :-B

Ange said...

I would rewatch that right now if I didn't have to wait for a "music video" lol!

Capcom said...

I bet that Charlotte is the Ben plant, since she was excited to see the DI bear. But then again.....then that would be too easy to guess.

Ange said...

Also, that picture they had of Ben...that seemed a little 80's didn't it?

Capcom said...

DarkUFO will post it Ange!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hee, hee - ange, I thought the same thing. Ben was looking a little disco. :)

Darkaardvark said...

Capcom: Ben says he's got a guy on the freighter. Wouldn't that preclude any of the 4 who parachuted in? Maybe it's Minkowsky. Something odd seemed to have been going on on the freighter when Miles called. And "can't come to the phone right now" also sounded like code.

Awesome episode, and I was right- backstories and personalities on four characters in one episode. impressive.

Capcom said...

Yeah, more like the '70s. Does anyone know what kind of ancient computer that was?

Scoutpost said...

Holy Moly!! It's the freckage! I am gonna have so many comments to catch up on by the time the show finishes here! :)
Well at least we know it's freckage, the whole plane is in the ocean- and we know a lot of it landed on island.

Oh I wish I could join ya'll now, but guess I'll just have to wait.

Melissa_Lossa said...

I'm guessing that "George" is the plant. Wasn't that who Miles was trying to talk to? They guy who couldn't come to the phone?

Tess315 said...

Ben looked like he was off island in that picture. I had always assumed he had never left the island. Do you think Jacob is the man of there's he has?

Capcom said...

Yes, all that "I can't come or talk" biz was definitely weird. So, then I wonder why Charlotte got all excited about the bear. Must have a different sneaky past with the DI.

Ange said...

DA: Good point about that conversation, how totally weird was that. "Sorry you are in the middle of a helicopter emergency on a weirdo island with guns and dead people and things, but we can't take your call right now..."

memphish said...

They made it look like a Jack video, and if that's the case it's been on ABC's LOST site for the past week. No need to torture yourself with Eli Stone to see it. Though I hear Victor Garber might sing. And that's a good thing.

Action-packed episode. Loved it. Don't know what to make of it, but I loved it. Especially the fan shout outs with Giant Ghost Walt and Locke being shot where his kidney should have been.

Tess315 said...

darkaardvark
That's a better guess. It probably is George.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Doesn't it seem like with everything that's going on, the freighter folks would be waiting by the phone a little more carefully? The phone rang and rang when Jack called, and now they can't come to the phone? What could he possibly be doing that's more important?

Capcom said...

I thought for sure that Lapidus was going to tell the Oceanic guy that the pilot had some missing fingers...not the wedding band thing. :-) I guess I'm just gross.

Fun Box Boards said...

Ben took the gun off Alex...

Vincent back in the house TEAM LOCKE!!! WOOT

Capcom said...

Although, it would be funny if Ben knew that Charlotte would be wearing a vest, and shot her for affect to throw everyone off. :o)

memphish said...

The opening said that the Christiane 1 had been out for 2 months. So that's about the best we're going to get for timeline. I don't really understand why they changed it from 1 Sam with an ROV to 2 randos except for the fact that the episode has probably been in the can since October.

memphish said...

Actually Ben took the gun off Karl.

Capcom said...

It does sound more like the Freighties are blowing off the landing team now though, yikes! That was weird how that went down.

Ange said...

Capcom: You're not that gross, I'm right there with you. Somehow I don't find a missing weddign band as conclusive evidence.

Sayid'sGirl: Per Ben leaving the island. I don't think he ever said he hadn't. He did however, say he was born there when he clearly was not.

Fun Box Boards said...

That Miles dude seems like he's gonna be a snake in the future. I'd tie 'em up like Ben has been. :P

memphish said...

Why was Dan dressed like a professor complete with vest and tie? He didn't look like he had a vest under his outfit.

And what the heck is up with the ghostbusting?

Tess315 said...

capcom
I thought missing finger too. Then went to ring.

Fun Box Boards said...

memphish said...
"Actually Ben took the gun off Karl."

That's what she said...

jess4ua said...

Capcom- ROFL! I told Hubby he was probably really missing fingers!

Melissa_Lossa said...

So who would want Ben, and why? Does someone know that he was behind the Purge?

I agree that photo looks like it was taken off-island, although I guess there's no proof of that.

Ange said...

Memphish: Maybe the two ROV guys were like professional ocean wreckage people. Sam really wasn't a pro at that. Maybe he was the preliminary and the other two came in to finish the job and confirm.

Erich said...

Awesome ep! Love the freighter's motley crew: Woody Allen as a physicist, the Fifth Ghostbuster, Indiana Jonesette, and Parrothead Pilot. Can't say I blame them for being after Ben. I felt pretty bad for Charlotte (much as I loved her in Veronica Mars, I'm glad Kristen Bell didn't get the role) when she met up with the Lockers.

Great use of the flashbacks (have they done multiple flashbacks in one ep before?).

What's up with Frank almost being the 815 pilot? Was he going to take the passengers somewhere other than L.A. or the island?

Fun Box Boards said...

Night Everyone.. great episode!

Tess315 said...

ange
I agree Ben never said he hadn't left the island. Just something I assumed. Maybe what ever reason these people are looking for him is why he can't let anyone leave the island. They might mention he's there.

Capcom said...

Right Funbox, Miles is a loaded gun about to go off.

Looks like a nice racket Memphish, a psychic takes up ripping off little old ladies to find their relatives' hidden stash. Weird.

Erich said...

When I saw the Ben photo, it looked like he was in line at an airport...which didn't seem weird to me until just now. Did he sneak off-island? Was he in Sydney? Did he leave the island the same way Original Sawyer got there?

Joseph Finchum said...

Ange said
Sayid'sGirl: Per Ben leaving the island. I don't think he ever said he hadn't. He did however, say he was born there when he clearly was not.

I always thought that Ben meant what he said, but as of the purge he was reborn... he spoke metaphorically.

I thpught finger aswell pinky to be exact, cause you would still be allowed to fly.

Scoutpost said...

I know I'm basically talking to myself here but, the look on Locke's and Ben's faces when Hurley mentioned the cabin was PRICELESS!

memphish said...

I can't figure out this "master plan" of Naomi and Abaddon. Send 4 untrained people onto an Island with an unknown number of armed and well-trained judging from Juliet's moves people all to extract Ben. Were they going to gas the Island and then find Ben's body. I guess that's what that case of masks and biohazard material might indicate.

Ange said...

erich: Good point about the pilot. Maybe he does have some inside information on how the plane ended up so far off course. Maybe that's why our other pilot was killed too, maybe he wasn't as well prepared for what he was crashing into as Parrot Head.

Maybe the plane wasn't supposed to crash either. Perhaps there was some other landing strip (other than the one they are building) and it was supposed to land there with all the potential new mommies. Would explain why they know who was on the flight and didn't seem all that surprised that it ended up there...crashing aside of course.

memphish said...

Agree Scoutpost. I made a note of that, but now it's gotten lost in all the shuffle of everything else.

lost2010 said...

So I'm the only one that thinks Ben's plant on the boat is Michael or Walt?

Joseph Finchum said...

Ange said
Memphish: Maybe the two ROV guys were like professional ocean wreckage people. Sam really wasn't a pro at that. Maybe he was the preliminary and the other two came in to finish the job and confirm.

Then why did they act so surprised... beause it was all staged... lol

Capcom said...

Does anyone besides me find it weird that a dead person could have a flashback? Are TPTB changing their rules?

Interesting to see Abaddon with Naomi though! Never did we get such instant follow-up to questions with this ep, right after last ep.

Melissa_Lossa said...

scoutpost - definitely! Ben especially looked so shocked when Hurley mentioned the cabin.

memphish said...

I guess we're supposed to conclude that it was Naomi's plan that everyone from 815 be killed and that explains Ben's warning to Jack in TTLG given his inside info.

Erich said...

ange: It sounded like Parrothead Pilot knew the real 815 pilot... Maybe they were in on the same plot? Is that why the pilot was killed by smokey?

Unknown said...

So we have a

*very sensitive physicist
*conniving paranormal investigator
*former Oceanic pilot, very skilled and literate on the survivors (and who isn't a survivor)
*very ambitious DHARMA hunter

This is a very interesting team.

Also interesting are the dynamics of who knew what, when, and how. Obviously, Naomi suspected that there would be 815 survivors on the Island. But Abaddon, who wanted to keep that possibility very hush-hush, obviously knew that Ben was on the Island.

What happened that caused them to know that this island was DHARMA's Island, and how did they know that the time was now to get Ben. Do they know he's the last surviving DHARMA operative? And how do they know that there even might be 815 survivors there?

Agreed that Minkowski is probably the plant. His inability to come to the phone was very suspicious.

The question is: Are we going to find out that somewhere, Abaddon has Richard tied up and is wringing information out of him?

Tess315 said...

memphish
Maybe they were going to purge the whole island just to get to Ben.

Why did Naomi keep say there might be survivors? Does she know the freckage is freckage? And doesn't Abaddon think they crashed on the island and died there? That back and forth conversation was strange.

lost2010 said...

I just knew Sayid would end up fixing a helicopter before this season was over. Go Sayid!

Unknown said...

Also, Ben's warning that everyone would be killed may or may not be true, but I think the main reason he said that in TTLG is because he REALLY does not want to be found by the outside world, and he would say anything to anyone to make sure that didn't happen.

Erich said...

Any chance Ben's "inside man" was Naomi? Coul that be why he let her escape and didn't say anything about her taking the sat phone?

memphish said...

Interesting Capcom about Naomi's flashback. Does that mean that we CAN get a Libby flashback after all?

Lost2010, That's interesting to think about Michael and Walt, but I can't imagine Michael making a 2nd deal with Ben after Walt was warning him not to trust the Others. Nor Walt working with Ben either. I think the mole might be Regina who answered the phone and kept George off it.

jess4ua said...

If some of the "rescuers" are after Ben, it makes me wonder even more why Naomi said she was looking for Desmond. I think it leads even more to the idea that someone knows Desmond is on the Island.

Capcom said...

That's what I was wondering Erich, about him letting Naomi go, etc.

Unknown said...

memphish: Good idea on Regina.

This episode made me just a little more angry with Hurley. I'm glad that Ben and Locke probably know that he covered something up, but I'm so frigging tired of obfuscation. TALK TO EACH OTHER YOU DOOFUSES.

lost2010 said...

But Walt came to warn Locke, right? I mean, tall ghost Walt anyway. If Michael was feeding Ben info, why couldn't Walt warn his old mentor with his creepy psychic powers?

Capcom said...

Yeah! Libby flashback!!!

Melissa_Lossa said...

I think that Naomi and Abaddon know that the freckage was freckage, but they didn't know what had really happened to 815.

Does that make sense? I think Abaddon was saying that there were no survivors because they were the ones who set up the story about the freckage. Naomi was saying that there might be survivors out there because while they know that the real plane went down, they don't know if anyone lived.

lost2010 said...

Did anyone else catch how Jack pulled the Tom Friendly 'light-em-up' scenario on the new island crash survivors?

Unknown said...

I still can't accept that Naomi's dead. I know that's silly, but I can't quiet that little bug in my ear that says "there's way too much screen time, in too many conspicuous ways, for a dead lady."

Capcom said...

Sayidsgirl, maybe it was like Naomi was just asking about the possiblity that there might be someone still floating out there, by some remote chance, after they say that they are all dead. Just a guess. Like, "They're all dead", "But what if they're not all dead".....

lost2010 said...

Minus the torches of course. But it was really similar.

Capcom said...

Yeah Lost2010! That was awesome. And, "Uh..didn't you see the wink?" Heheh.

jess4ua said...

Could it be that Abaddon chose that crew because they all had a reason to want to go to the island.

Pilot- To look for his friend.
Miles- Lots of weird possible psychic /paranormal activity on the island.
Charlotte- obviously knows something about Dharma.
Faraday- interested in physics, properties of the Island.

Or maybe it is all a coincidence.

lost 2010 - I thought the same thing about Jack's ploy!

I also liked when Jack told Kate that he tried to communicate the plan to her with "that little wink." :)

Unknown said...

No way, Naomi knew that there were going to be survivors on this island. She hedged her words because she knew that Abaddon did not want to discuss the possibility, but she knew it.

memphish said...

I guess Naomi's dead, and she's here and Miles can apparently talk to her, so does that make her dead?

lost2010 said...

Loved the wink. Almost as much as I loved Sawyer getting his turn to beat on Ben for a while.

Hey! Ben's the new Sawyer.

jess4ua said...

ML - I got the same feeling that, at least, Naomi and, maybe, Abaddon don't know what really happened to the flight. Although I have a gut feeling Abaddon knows.

Melissa_Lossa said...

At the beginning, wasn't Dan really upset about the flight, but he didn't know why? I wonder what that was all about.

Or did I completely hear that wrong? ;)

Capcom said...

So she's "meat". :-p Nice guy.

Joseph Finchum said...

My thoughts on the Abaddon Naomi conversation was that she was asking what to do if there was survivors and he was telling her...

Not To Leave Any", but her untimly death puts the kabosh on that and the remaining people with Bens Plant (regina?) bring people back not knowing that Naomi was going to execute everyone.

Now Abaddon, wants to know... since six came back, plus a native perhaps??? If their are more out there who might turn up.

Tess315 said...

melissa
That makes sense to me thanks.
capcom
You make sense too. :)
lost 2010
Yep I noticed that too. Except I thought he was bluffing.

Capcom said...

Right Melissa, I hope that they revisit Dan's feelings about that before episode 8.

memphish said...

So does this make sense for a timeline? Key turned; arctic guys find location. Abaddon gets that information, stages fake 815 and sends Sam to find it, 815 found, Abaddon hires Naomi to assemble the Freighter 4 and they head for the arctic guys location where they eventually find Island.

Capcom said...

Ewww...I didn't think of that Ded. You mean as in, he was telling her that there WILL BE no survivors if she finds any because she will kill them?

Anonymous said...

IM SO CONFUSED .

Melissa_Lossa said...

They didn't show the face of the woman who was with Dan in his flashback, did they?

lost2010 said...

I think Dan may be a touch special himself. Now that we have Miles, there's no reason the dead can't have flashbacks I guess.

So here's a thought - what if seeing the dead really is the key special ability on the show. Hurley seems to be able to see the dead - he saw Charlie and Christian. What if Dave wasn't so much a hallucination as he was a ghost.

Capcom said...

Sounds good Memphish!

Unknown said...

capcom, everyone else:

There don't need to be concerns about "before episode 8" anymore. The WGA deal is done, and will go to the full WGA membership by SATURDAY.

Ange said...

You think the "team" was put together to anthropologically reconstruct what happened to Dharma and find out the extent of their reach and research?

Melissa_Lossa said...

Wouldn't it be fair to say that the final flashback was Abaddon's, not Naomi's?

Tess315 said...

I liked the look on Karl's and Ben's face when Charlotte asked if Claire had Aaron on the island and says amazing.

Joseph Finchum said...

Yes Memphish that about works for me. I would say it was about three to a month to assemble the Freighter four, but wouldnt that, by the find815 time line make it January on the island... I thought it was still December on the island?

memphish said...

Charlotte was definitely the most annoying newbie.

Unknown said...

If I'm not mistaken, ded, this episode took place on Christmas Day.

Unknown said...

Oops, sorry, it's Christmas Eve.

lost2010 said...

If we're handing out red shirts, I'd definitely want Charlotte to be the first in line of the newbies, memphish.

jess4ua said...

The fact that they are there after Ben makes me think maybe Abaddon is Dharma.

Joseph Finchum said...

Yes that is exact;y what I meant.

Capcom said...

Guaranteed no break at all Kyle? There will be no catching up for them, restarting all over again, as if there was no break at all in production?

Tess315 said...

memphish
I think Dan is the most annoying.
Charlotte is just a *****

Black Swan said...

Great episode!! And my hubby, a casual watcher, loved it to. They really seem to be moving things along!

I kept wondering why they didn't close Naomi's eyes

lost2010 said...

Awe, that's going to be a media circus if the 6 go home on Christmas Day isn't it? I do like these with the flashbacks better than the flashforwards though. I can't explain why.

Johnny Dingo said...

The polar bear was teleported to tunisia in a similar experiment to the one that produced the two bunnies in the teaser trailer we saw last year.

It may also have something to do with the continued upright existence of charlie in last week's flash forward.

Perhaps some sort of temporal displacement rather than cloning.

Or... I could be talking out of my ass.

Joseph Finchum said...

Kyle aka TheBookPolice said...
Oops, sorry, it's Christmas Eve.

Indeed, and in the ARG, doesn't it go past x-mas?

Capcom said...

Polarbear 15?! :-D

Unknown said...

capcom: We're close enough, I think, to the 2/1/08 rough date for uninterrupted seasons, that if the deal does get approved and signed by 2/9, production might only miss a week.

That's still hope, and not fact, but based on everything that's been said, I think it'll prove to be pretty accurate.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Charlotte was a little too enthusiastic for me. She was just so gosh darn excited to be there.

Unknown said...

ded: We still don't know the exact timeline of Find 815. All we know is that Sam wasn't going to be home in time for Christmas. But we don't know when the action ended.

lost2010 said...

So did the polar bear get teleported into the desert AND into the past? Or is 20 years long enough for a polar bear to get buried that deep?

Joseph Finchum said...

okay, gaotcha.

Melissa_Lossa said...

I think that Ockham told Sam that he wouldn't be back before Christmas, but I don't know how much time passed between that and when they found the freckage.

Capcom said...

That would be great Kyle!

Melissa, maybe she's like that chick in Jurassic who got excited about swimming around in the dino dung to check out the dino's eating habits. :o) Maybe archeologists are like that too.

Tess315 said...

I guess I read her differently. Little Miss Perky was just waiting for her opening. She wasn't so perky right before Ben shot her.

jess4ua said...

Nothing in the ARG told us we went past Christmas. Given this last epi, I would say we never got to Christmas.

Capcom said...

Maybe the "won't be back for Christmas" line was concerning the original 90 day trek (or whatever it was) that Talbot had originally plotted out?

Scoutpost said...

A cow?

Ben's a good shot!

A helicopter!!

Melissa_Lossa said...

capcom - LOL :)

She was just so wide-eyed at everything. "You had a baby on the island? Neat!" "I've got this cool blinking thing so the guys can find us!"

lost2010 said...

I was really hoping Sam would be on there. I guess Miles will be able to find Sonya and take word back to Sam of her valiant death or something.

Capcom said...

Right ML. :-D

Black Swan said...

I was hoping to see Sam, too

lost2010 said...

Almost forgot - loved that Jack immediately figured out that Locke had Charlotte just by seeing that they'd tied the transponder to the dog. I was waiting for the smoke monster to hurl the remains of Charlotte at their feet before I realized who she was.

Black Swan said...

I think I know Ben's "inside" man on the freighter.... it's gotta be

dun, dun, dun,,,

Patchy!!!!

Melissa_Lossa said...

I'm surprised they didn't get Sam. I'm fairly certain that the news reporter that Dan was watching was the same one that Sam was watching at the end of the game.

Capcom said...

It definitely seems like what Jess said about how each of the landing team had specific talents/specialties for dealing with the unique properties and situations that they would find on the island. You would be hard-pressed to find one person with all those traits, so each person having a speciality is a good bet/hedge.

Erich said...

Tsk tsk. So much hate for the Freightastic Four! I gotta say, I dug Dan and Charlotte (guess I have a weakness for accents). Miles is a bit high-strung (and he did steal that granny's dead drug-dealer son's cash). But how can you hate Parrothead Pilot? He wears Hawaiian shirts! And he landed that chopper in a clearing the size of a large postage stamp!

I'm hoping they end up being the good guys after all.
