itgirl, good to here from you! We were concerned when you were gone for so long. Glad you're feeling better!

I'm just now catching up on the posts and I'm intrigued by some of the thoughts I've read so far.

I believe Michael is the body in the coffin because he's the only person I can think of that we've seen who has a teenage son (Unless if could be Karl's father? Does anyone remeber if we ever learned Karl's last name?)

I coudn't make anything of those whispers. They didn't even sound like English to me. Spanish, maybe?

Jacob's shack being freed from the ashes -- good call! I like that idea!

The eye -- I thought it was Hurley's own eye at first. Now I'm not sure whose eye it is. Maybe Hurley's Dad? He did have daddy issues and hje was in a vulnerable mental state...

It's definitely Christian in the rocking chair.

Also, I think that Something bad must have happened to the people that went with Locke and that's why Hurley tells Jack he made a mistake. Whatever it was is the reason why only 6 made it off and they have to keep quiet about those left behind.

Twinkle, the trinity idea -- good thoughts! I never considered taht before. IT would go well with some of the religious themes that were brought up in past seasons.

2costa, I like your idea about the island appearing in the location where the plane was found when the clock wasn't pushed. That makes good use of the theory that the CAsimir effect is in play here (and it must be or the orchid video is a red herring).

I was also wondering about Hurley's visions about Dave, too. I wonder if he might have been a real person and Hurley was seeing him the same way he saw dead Charlie.

Also, I agree about the freighter coming in response to Locke entering 77. I think that's why Ben is convinced that they are coming to kill them all.

And it does make sense taht the sub is the only way to leave. That might make it reasonable that only 6 could make it off the island. The sub isn't all that big. But then how could they explain where they got the sub? Why do they have to keep the rest of the survivors a secret? That part doesn't make sense if they used the sub to escape.

Now, one thing that's been bugging me has to do with TTLG. After Charlie entered the code to disable the jammer, there was an "incoming call" button and it turned out to be Penny. That means Penny was calling the station! So why did she ask how Charlie fgot the frequency? He wasn't calling out - he just answered an incoming call. It's not like it was a ham radio type thing. It wouln't have had an "incoming call" signal if it was. How did she know about the station? Why was she calling it? Why didn't she know where it was? Who did she think she was calling?

And I don't want to talk about the SUper Bowl! I felt sick afterwards! (I'm from New England) I came here to forget!

Sorry for the long post! I didn't realize I had that much to say!

So a helicopter can fly over the island ?

Can it land without crashing ? Is that why people are parachuting out rather than just landing, do you get to a certain altitude and then the instruments go haywire ?

Does the distance that instruments are affected by the island increase with the amount of time that the button hasn't been pushed ? In the current situation it could be supressed until another 'incident' occurs.

The issue of the sub, re-stating that Locke had blown everything else up, was sidestepped somewhat which increases the possibility that Locke did not blow it up.

And on completely off topic subjects :

I saw Cloverfield on Saturday as it has only just been released in the UK, I enjoyed it, but I do want to see another film, either one more concentrating on the main monster (yes I know that was the point of what JJ was trying to get away from), or another aspect of the same story from a different persepctive.

I was pleased even before the start of the film, as there was the short Star Trek trailer, and a trailer for the new Doctor Who series, which I have to say looked excellent on the big screen.

Also the Super Bowl was on the BBC last night, which mean't no adverts, that was something different. I only made it to the end of the first quarter before falling asleep. (midnight UK time).

David or Dennis, Can we get a post for the Podcast so that iTunes can pull it in? Thanks.

Everyone should be sure to listen to the Monday Jay and Jack. They interview Jorge about the episode and he even pulls out his script and discusses some cool stuff. I've got a link up at The Lost Elders.

Just caught up with all the messages. Head still spinning. Not much to add except with the long hiatus they really did deliver an exceptional start to the new season.

Cant say enough about how knowledgeable and informed the people on this site are. a tip of the hat and thanks for making the show so much fun.

Everyone should listen to the Jay and Jack podcast that Memphish linked to above. It was so insightful listening to Jorge discuss the episode...it was like a running commentary. He does talk about things that debunk some of our discussion, reveals how things were first filmed, how things were first written in the script, and how things were done, etc. (I don't want to reveal to much and "spoil" the podcast.) Definitely worth everyone's time. Thanks, Memphish!

Instead of a mile long post over here, I posted some questions and ideas about the episode over at my blog. I'd be particularly interested to hear peoples ideas about changing the frequency on the sat phone and what's going on with that. BTW, right now in my eye poll, Jacob leads Locke and Other in terms of whose eye was in the cabin.

Morning everyone!
re: the helicopter and whether it was about to crash-
maybe they can't land on the island because of the electromagnetism. Maybe that is why the Dharma drops are dropped. Although that would not explain the LOST promos where it looks like a helicopter is leaving the island, and Desmond's vision that Claire leaves in a helicopter.
What is happening now to the electromagnetism now that there is no hatch? CC and DL said that the hatch was a sort of tap for the electromagnetic force on the island and that pushing the button every 108 minutes released some of the energy. Is all that energy just building up? What will happen if it doesn't get released/what happened before the hatch was implemented?

There's a really interesting recap at DarkUFO and her own blog Long Live Locke by E. Reading it reminded me that Naomi, and by extension her sister, is from Manchester same as Charlie. So I guess whoever Naomi's sister is may be linked to the Pace family.

Wow, Zort, The Doctor on the big screen, how awesome is that!!! :-D (drool)

Lostit, that's one thing that I am waiting for...TPTB's explanation of how Penny just happened to be calling the LG. WTH?

As for The Eye, I'm waiting to see what happens, because if it's just that production guy standing in again for Jacob there's not much point in spending too many brain cells on it. :o) At any rate, I can wait for that one, while I turn my brain inside out on the other stuff.

Great comments everyone!

Hmmm...Just emailed Dennis to get the low-down. Trying to figure out what happened here. Apparently David & the Goog started their own blog to host the podcast and I haven't heard a thing about it. We typically get an email with a link and description to post but we didn't get one this time. I don't want to put up a podcast post if they, for some reason, don't want to be involved with us anymore. I'm sure I just missed something while I was out of the loop during the hiatus. We'll try to get it cleared up by the end of the day.

memphish said...

Thanks for running that down David. Whatever they've done hasn't linked directly into iTunes. Hopefully we'll hear from the guys soon and figure out what's what.

Thanks for the link to the LLL blog Memphish. I whole heartedly concur with her statement, "Damn you, ABC Promo Monkeys!" I'll drink to that.

From jrm at the Pop Candy blog:

K- I am on page 25 and I just can't stand it anymore. I have spent hours reading posts so if this a duplicate please believe I did my due diligence to try to prevent it. It ill be Sunday before I can read all of these. Here is was what I have to say- the Oceanic 6 are lying because no time elapsed here while they were on the island. Based on our time they were rescued the following day. To them months had gone by. So how do you explain that to the rest of the world? You lie and let's see... pretend you didn't know Ana Lucia? How would you? You were only gone a day and she died on impact. That is what I think.

Interesting idea, huh? I'd really love if this were the case, but I don't think it's going to take 3 full years for Jack to get to TTLG crazy.

Another interesting post from Pop Candy:

I'd like to change things up and comment on the Pop-Up-Video Lost Episode that was on last night. One part in particular caught my attention. I think it was in the hospital right after Jack was stealing drugs, he was talking to the new chief of surgery.
The pop up that was on the screen mentioned something along the lines of how Jack was drinking & messed up, though he wasn't normally much of a drinker in the past and that now he was acting more like his father had been acting right before his death.
So, this makes me think that Christian Shepard had visited the island and was then taken away from it, couldn't find it again, and was drinking his life away because of this...just as Jack is doing in the flashforward.

...this was posted on Sunday, it's the podcast isn't it? Also, I had the new one in my iTunes podcast area yesterday.

Also memphish posted from Pop Candy:

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THIS! I started thinking about this over the weekend. There are so many parallels with Jack and Christian and their decline. I think that either Christian was on the island and wanted to get back (maybe that's why he really went to Aus.) or he also had/has a secret that he isn't allowed to talk about and it is slowing driving him mad too. Or he is just the mastermind of all of it and it's running amok made him spiral into drinking etc...

OMG i just had THE longest comment in theworld and blogger froze up! grr

Memphish in reply to your comment about how time may not pass off island in the same way that it does on-island, i personally have to disagree

From the Juliette-centric episode we learnt that when she went to the island her sister was pregnant. Then 3 years later Ben showed her a video of her sister and the son (Julian) had been born and it was a toddler now, around about 3. So i think that was TPTB's way of saying time DOES pass on and off island in the same way. If the time didnt pass the 'Oceanic 6' would have had minimal media coverage if they had been found the day following the crash as it just wouldnt be a big deal compared to "6 survivors of the plane crash are found alive 8 months after going missing"

Unless you are saying Ben used the station to show Juliette a video from the future. but thats a wholeee other theory lol, although i guess using the whole Hieronymus box thing it could be possible.

Did anyone else here participate in the DarkUFO Prediction League?

I'm 170 back from the lead, a somewhat inauspicious start.

maven said...

Kyle: You did better than me...I got 110. I had completely forgotten about that "League". Is it just for the first episode?

Memphish/Ange: The "Jack is following what happened to his father" scenario is certainly an interesting one. Like father, like son. Jack is just repeating what his father went through. Could Christian be in on whatever is happening on the island from the beginning? Did he do some work for Dharma/Hanso years ago...was recruited like Juliet? I always thought he went to Sydney to connect with Claire, but the island could have been calling to him, too.

memphis shes got it backwards time goes slower on the island if find 815 taught us anything it was a while after the crash that they found the intact 815 under the water and if they are to explain the oceanic six they will find them somewhere after that and say JAck(twice the hero) somehow made a boat out of floatation devices and hurley and sailed them to some shore around bali...the lie that the oceanic six involves the omission of the whole island portion of their adventure and the true nature and particulars of the crash as in the plane broke into three pieces, yet the oceanic 815 sam found was all in one piece...just guessiing.

Hate to harp on the same subject but the eye we saw thursday was not the eye of jacob from season three look at my blog for yourself, so i can reasonably say that either they cast jacob with an actor and thats his eye(hence differnt from the first time) or its somebody else as yet to be determined that we might know of or might not, but im reasonably sure that since they used a stand in the first time they wouldnt use a differnt stand in the second time, that would just be cruel to the hard core fans...

Kyle aka TheBookPolice said... Did anyone else here participate in the DarkUFO Prediction League?

Did you have to re-signup for that? I was in the hiatus league and I'm not listed in the current standings. I searched by both my email address and blogger id.

Great comments everyone. It has taken me forever to catch up.

Unknown said...

maven: Naw, you're doing 30 better than I am. I've got 80 (170 off the lead). And it's the whole season. Should be updated every Monday.

ib4uc: This league is totally separate from the fantasy league. There was a separate set of questions/plot points/trivia whatnots that you had to fill in on a spreadsheet and send back in with your Blogger ID.

Omg, I can't believe it's been over 200 comments and I haven't made one of them! I thought for sure...

big hug for {{{{itgirl}}}} we missed you and prayed for you!

welcome back to all the "lost" LoCos. Nice to see all the familiar faces.

eye in the cabin? don't know, but 2costa makes a good charlie argument. At first I thought it was Locke, but now I think def not. I hope we find out this Thursday (how's that for optimism?)

Coffin? hm, now I'm thinking Sawyer. It sure would explain Kate's acid tone in her voice. It would be nice to find that out this week too, but that's asking too much!

Last bit: since time runs differently on the island, maybe Penny's call to the LG is why she starts looking for an Island. The point in time for Penny is before the failsafe explosion happens on the Islan, even though it's after that event for Charlie. Maybe the LG can pinpoint instances in time, not just contact the outside world but choose the when of contact too. And if Penny is trying to call, but keeps getting a "busy" due to jamming, then when the LG is turned off by Charlie her call will go through--hence the 'incoming call' from Penny.

It's just a thought.

ok, one more thing: I also noticed Kate's lack of freckles in the FF last season, but chalked it up to future makeup. But it may be significant.

(lostit, look away!)Go Giants!

To all questioning the DarkUFO prediction league-
It came out quite a bit before the fantasy league. I remember he could only take so many entrants and there was a pretty quick deadline, so the spots filled up. I remember because I was going to enter it, but didn't get my questionnaire filled out in time. There were a whole bunch of questions he asked like- what will be the first word said in the new season, etc. and you can look at his site to see some of the other questions that were asked.

amused- where've you been?
All Patriot fans look away-

Yeah go Giants!! It was so much fun in Glendale yesterday. We watched the game from a sports bar across the street from the stadium. Giants fans went crazy!

Sigma6 said...

scoutpost - I don't think electromagnetism is building up, because things started going bad right away at 108 minutes the other two times we've seen the button not get pushed in time. I think Desmond turning the failsafe key changed circumstances to the point where the button in the Swan was simply not needed anymore. What else it changed (because surely it changed something else), I couldn't say.
