D.O.C. - Season 3, Episode 18

Here's your tagline: Sun discovers the identity of her unborn child's father after being examined by Juliet. Meanwhile, Desmond allows an unlikely foe to help save the life of a mysterious new island inhabitant. Informal Poll: Who's the Daddy?

Capcom: I'd like to think you're right about Sun, but she seemed to know what kind of work her father did when she blackmailed him into handing over the money. Thinking back, her seeming disregard for Jin's future reminded me of the scene in Glass Ballerina where she got the maid fired.

I don't think her motivations are as simple as that. She loved Jin and I think really wanted to protect him. That said, she may have been interested in protecting herself and her family as well. It's hard to tell how far back her and Jin's relationship troubles go.

Capcom said...

I like that....is a person "LTDA or EMFH"? I'm going to say to someone some time, "You are SO EMFH!" :o)

I agree Erich, but maybe just because I love Dez. Dez has been for the most part, giving up everything of himself for the greater good (like you said), or, for lovvvvvve. :o) But we'll see how all these new developments and his powers might change him in any way. I hope that he doesn't change too much.

Yep, Jules turns off the recorder, and they make a point to camera-shot the stopped reel. It seems like the past few eps TPTB have made some effort to let us know how some characters feel, even if there has not been a direct vehicle in the plot for them to do so. Finally.

I really like Des too, but he was pretty selfish when he left Locke with the broken computer and ran for his boat.
Although he has been pretty unselfish sense he came back.
Like you said we'll have to see what hte current circumstances will bring.

Boy, you all are going to really question MY moral compass, but I saw what Dez did as panic (especially after the three year forced TDY in the Swan that he did), and I considered the wheel-and-deal that Sun did with her dad, appropriate to the weight of his "sins" - and for the good cause of saving Jin's "face", as they call it in that culture.

I'm sure that I am wrong, and that you all, the majority, are right! I'm just odd-man-out I guess. :o)

Howdy, all! Wow, I'm finally done with work and can log on!

I'm going to go catch up on all your comments, and will see y'all in a bit!

I totally agree that Desmond has avoided the selfishness theme by helping Charlie and his actions with the swan, but not in the last two episodes.

I agree with most that Dez was meant to save Charlie in catch 22 because of the fact that we saw Charlie in the vision helping the team catch the parachuter. But Desmond wasn't concerned with getting off the island or helping the group. He selfishly wanted to see his girlfriend.

In this epi, Dez is very selfish by making choices regarding Mikhail's fate, that others including Charlie didn't agree with. Again, because he is ultimately being selfish and wants to see Penelope and is willing to sacrifice whatever it takes to get it done.

I am not a huge Charlie fan, but for once I liked how he stepped up this epi. Telling Dez that we can't keep letting the others go was spot on. Also, getting mad at Hurley for talking about the phone.

Dez could have cared less what the circumstances were to ultimately see Penelope.

As a result of Dez's quest for Penny, the entire group pf surviviors may get off of the island, but that is not the MO that Dez is operating under at this point.

Also, wasn't sure if everyone knows yet (still behind on comments), but the Mikhail's translation of the parachuters comments was not even accurate. The "thank you" Mikhail translated has since been properly identified as "I am not alone." Dez's actions could really hurt the big picture hear since Mikhail appears to have the inside info and upper hand in this regard.

I also agree with most that adding the others into the story has been great fun this year. I know there are a lot of people who have been disappotined with season 3 and turned away from LOST altogether, but I have been very impressed with this year's storyline except for a few filler epi's and major points that I thought were made minor by thw writers.

I am still really bummed with the writer's response to Locke's paralyzation. The writers could have done a much better job than the whole dad pushing Locke out of a 4 story building. Give me something believeable will ya.

I was however stunned and bummed at the same time to see Mikhail this epi. If he's alive, where's Boone and Shannon, and my altime fav Ecko. If Mikhail survived, Ecko definetly could have been healed from his monster confrontation.

The only good theory I saw on why Mikhail is alive was in this forum. Someone said Mikhail had an implant like Claire's that got triggered when he went through the fence. Other than that, I don't possibly see how he is alive. We all know Mikhail knew he would survive since we translated his exchange with Ms Klugh, but if it was that simple why did Ms. Klugh opt for death vs Mikhail's plan.

Not many things on LOST get me mad but that staright pissed me off. I need to go take my ritalin now :)

Absolutely not qestioning your moral compass.
Des did panic and was desperate but like Locke told Charlie. I guess he felt he had found his replacements. Not an exact quote.
And as far as Sun I'm not sure she chose the lesser of two evils. Putting Jin in the position to have to work for her father "business" over being shamed. And just because there may be a majority on a thought doesn't always make them right.
diggitydirge
I must be the only one who never believed Patchy was dead. They not only didn't check him closely to see if he was alive they believed the fence did the damage to him and never tested the fence but went over it. I know we heard a weird sound so I can't say it wasn't one like with Juliet and Kate but maybe it has different levels of strength.

Tess315 said...

That should be wasn't on. not wasn't one like with Juliet and Kate.
I don't think I finished my thought with Desmond but at this point I'm not sure what it was I was going to say. :) I swear I'm losing my memory. ;)

I must be the only one who never believed Patchy was dead.

No your not... I'm with you on that. (unfortunately, I'm also with you on the losing memory problem:)

As far as Patchy, I am starting to wonder if he really is original Dharma. I could be way off base here, but what if he made a deal with the hostiles (Ben & Co) after the purge? He may have said that he'd keep to himself and help them with the Dharma stuff they don't understand, like the comms, fence, hatches, etc. I say this because I think the way he was running toward the flare was because he knew Dharma would be sending help if someone pushed 77.

Capcom said...

I know Sayidsgirl, that was funny what Locke said when Dez took off!

I didn't want to trust that Patchy was dead either. They didn't check him, he seemed to kind of move when Kate got close to him, and they didn't try throwing something through the fence to check if an inanimate object might set it off as well. All things that could have been mis-steps or left out in production or plot, but I just didn't trust that slimy, "Thank you". That he gave Locke. It was fishy.

And I still think that Bea was wearing a bullet proof vest! :-D

So interesting Diggity, about a chip in Patchy! Hmmmm.

Well, I guess I don't trust my judgement about Sun, since you all saw things differently, maybe I missed something in translation. I'll have to watch that again. ;o)

Heh, I guess Patchy wasn't "really most sincerely dead", as the Oz coroner did not inspect him. Just keeping with the Oz theme in Lost.

Oh, geez, Capcom, I nearly died laughing when I read that!! I could just visualize that Oz coroner/munchkinlander standing over Patchy and wagging his finger at him! (And now I'm going to be singing that tune for the rest of the afternoon!) :)

Capcom said...

Right Codysmom, I'm wondering about whether or not someone will be responding to the 7-7 alert as well! Either there's no one there at DI to receive it now, or perhaps there will be some follow up to that. And possibly Naomi is it.

Capcom said...

D'oh! Now I am going to be singing it again too!

I have to say, this recently upgraded version of the google-blog has been behaving very well this week. It's never erased my input before accepting the WV, it takes fewer WVs, and often takes it on the first try! Halleluiah!

Friday's_Child said...

I know what you mean, Capcom!
I'd actually gotten into the habit of CaCc-ing (Ctr+A, then Ctr+C-ing)my post before entering the WV, cuz I didn't want to risk losing a post that I'd spent a lot of time typing!

It still takes two WV's to get it accepted though...

Hey LoCos, Vozzek69 says on DarkUFO: "Sun gets a lot of credit for creeping back into the hatch to overhear Juliet's recording. Yet I tend to think Juliet intentionally let Sun in on the tape recording thing as a way to keep the 815'ers in the loop."

Did I miss something? I didn't see Sun go back to listen. Maybe my local station cut it off?

maven said...

A lot of great stuff today, gang!

Capcom: I saw that, too, with Vozzek69. He explains himself in the comments...it's just something he presumed. It was NOT shown that Sun overheard Juliet!

Capcom said...

Thanks Maven, I'll read the comments now.

Does anyone speak Korean. I had DarkUfo do a screen cap of a Korean sign on a bridge and am ineterested in what it says.

It may be nothing, but in one of the Sun/Jin epi's from season 2 there was a sign in Korean that meant something. The sign just seemd out of place to me.

Check it out..

Vozzek made a pretty big leap on the Sun going back in thing. Ironically it was also Jack of the Jay & Jack Lost podcast's crackpot theory of the week. But in true LOST fashion, Jack predicted Sun would keep the info. to herself until later.

I'm not real sure which side Patchy falls on either. He runs around in Dharma clothes and said he answered an ad. Then later tells Sayid that his story was true except for being Dharma and that the man who brought all of my people here is magnificent.
Spf was he recruited or brought?

Unknown said...

Wow, Vozzek really got me thinking with this statement:

I'm pretty sure Desmond died during the hatch implosion, waking up naked and reborn "in another life".

Maybe that's what happened. The implosion killed him, which led to his life "flashing before his eyes," and then he was brought back to life by the Island's healing properties somehow. As Vozzek said, his being naked could symbolize him being reborn.

Tess315 said...

Spf is suppose to be So. My husband and my daughter were messing with me at the same time.

Black Swan said...

Sayid'sgirl, whether Patchy is a recruited Other or an original Dharma, I think he belongs on the side of not-so-happy with Ben. So, maybe the list of anti-Bens could be Patchy, Juliet, Ms. Klugh, possibly Kelvin and even Alex and Carl.

Black Swan said...

Gotta feel a little sorry for Patchy.... He just loved being a recluse playing with all the communications in the Flame and now it's all gone. What's there to stay for, now? He really wanted that sat phone... He also really wanted the fact that he's alive kept a secret.

wow . i dont even know what to say after that episode !

been lurking for a few days and i still cant wrap my mind around all the comments ! all we know is that the LOSTIES ARE NOT DEAD .

it stands to reason that naomi would say that about the 815ers, assuming that there was a con wreckage set up .. she obviously didnt know about them, cause she was sent for desmond who wasn't on the plane .

oh, and HOW after the fence is patchy still alive ??!?

what i dont understand with all this is: what does pregnancy have to do with healing powers have to do with a fake oceanic flight have to do with time travel have to do with room 23 have to do with the numbers have to do with the others have to do with dharma have to do with magic boxes have to do with electromagnetism have to do with a hidden island ?

how do all these mysteries relate .

Not dead. No. Not dead. Won't believe it. Can't accept it. They PROMISED it wasn't purgatory, that it wasn't a dream, that it wasn't happening in someone's imagination.

Friday's_Child said...

“Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.”

These words were spoken by Jacob on his death bed to his twelve sons. Then he directly prophesied to each of them by name. I will only quote the prophesy spoken to Benjamin (Genesis 49:27): “Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf; In the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.” (The word “ravin” means to plunder or pillage.)

Man, reading that in the Old Testament just gave me the chills! Br-r-r-r-r!

I came across these verses in my attempt to make sense of the use of so many OT names: Jacob, Benjamin, Sarah, Isaac, Ruth, Naomi, etc.

Friday's_Child said...

Actually, I do have a theory about why all of these Biblical names are being used in Lost, but since I seem to be here all by my lonesome, I'll save it for later.

That is probably the biggest question I have too- Of all the theories I've read, I don't think any of them can account for every mystery. It should be pretty interesting when we finally find out.

Good Morning LoCos
A little off topic irony here.
I watch the show Raines, I really like Jeff Goldblum. I didn't get to watch it last night but I taped it I ws watchingit this morning and there was the actress who played Libby and her husband died in a private plane crash over the Pacific ocean.
I just thought that was kinda funny.

Mornin' LoCos!

One unifying theory? Without using the devices of dream, aliens, time travel, magic, purgatory (death world), or multiple universes...

Beats me!

BarbaraJay said...

Hello, Locos! Haven't been around for a while but I finally caught up.

re Juliet testing the women:
All commercially available tests for pregnancy look for the presence of the beta subunit of hCG or human chorionic gonadotropin in the blood or urine. (Wikipedia)
So is Juliet going to follow the women to the latrine or is she going to pick fights to draw blood?

I think Naomi is an Other. She either lied about Flight 815 (Lying? That's a shocker!) or the wreckage was found with everyone dead in another timeline. Or maybe she was given misinformation about 815.

I think it was Scoutpost and Capcom who said they were okay with the supernatural or less-than-scientific aspects of Lost. Me, too. When I sat down to watch the first episode of Lost, I was expecting it to be a soap opera on an island and that I would hate it. Then Smokey showed up and I was hooked. Monsters, yeah.

Re: WVs, I think that they are for keeping out blog-spamming, which can be terrible. I was on a blog during TLE time, and very other blog was this stupid spammer-post of someone's website. It was horrible. I guess if the Admin of the blog doesn't mind having to spend time deleting all the spam, it's up to them, but who would want to. :-(

Black Swan said...

Just a quick Good Afternoon!!

re Juliet testing the other women, I think she'll have Sun's help with that now. Juliet will tell Sun that she can start giving her injections to try to save her and Sun will want to help find out if anyone else is pregnant so they can have injections, too.

Some people said they wonder why Juliet didn't know about Sun's affair when the others know EVERYTHING and I say she did know... that's how she got Sun to agree to the DOC test so easily (Sun wanted to know who the daddy is). Have we discussed if Juliet is lying about Sun's DOC? Is there an evident heartbeat at 8 weeks along?

memphish said...

I hang out an another blog pretty regularly and in the last 2 months, there's only been one piece of spam. Anyway, that's why I was asking.

Capcom said...

Amused, a "unifying theory", well put! :o) Maybe TPTB really don't need to tie in everything together. Say for instance, Dez's plot doesn't really have to have anything to do with the DI, or the Others, although it certainly could be made to.

I can see how a huge amount could be accounted for by the DI's almost Machiavellian actions over the last 3-4 decades, including their manipulation of the island. But if TPTB are going to throw in Hurley's winning the lottery into that basket, I will have to turn my BS meter down to super-low, but that would be OK too. Because really, how could the numbers not be a part of a Plan, his winning as a coincidence would be kind of far-fetched as well. But wow, the DI's arm of control would have to be astronomical then. Although, that is something that we have been theorizing about since TLE, and what has made it fun too.

Barbarjay, yes, I would not mind some element of scifi extrapolation in the story, and someone else said that too. Now we have three! :o) I didn't even watch the first few eps, for the very reason that you stated, and then when I heard that it was "weird", I jumped right on it.

Capcom said...

Right Memphish, I don't know why some blogs get spammed and others don't. Maybe there are some blogs that spammers haven't found yet?

Good points Codysmom.

memphish said...

Codysmom, what about the info. Ethan gave Claire that there wasn't enough "medicine" for her and the baby. Do you think Claire will share that? That could create a LOSTies showdown over who gets any "medicine." Of course, given Juliet's statements that her medicine hasn't worked in the past, would anyone want it?

As for hearing a heartbeat at 8 weeks, I don't know. I don't think we probably didn't hear it until 10-14 weeks. But the way my OB worked was you went in at 6 weeks from the start of your last period, then every month for a while, then every 2 weeks, then every week for the last month. Ultrasounds where you can tell if it's a girl or a boy are usually done about 18 weeks.

Who'd have thought we needed a copy of What To Expect While You're Expecting to watch LOST.

Black Swan said...

I think the big question is:
Why do they have to be pregnant on the island? Why can't they go to the mainland, have their babies and then come back to Otherville?

I re-watched TOTC and noticed the ground shaking like an earthquake was definitely before the plane broke up. Do we think it's because of Des not pushing the button in time (purpling) or is it what happens when a large mass comes through the force field/atmosphere/bubble that surrounds the island?

memphish said...

Sorry for the dreadful writing in the last post. I meant to say we didn't hear a heartbeat when I was pregnant until either 10 or 14 weeks.

Capcom said...

LOL Memphish! That info will probably go up on Lostpedia soon!

Black Swan said...

memphish, it was so LONG ago that I was pregnant, I'm out of the loop on that. Back in the old days we didn't even have ultrasounds (unless there was a suspicion of a problem). I've never had one and managed to have 2 healthy kids:)

Capcom said...

Another good point Codysmom! I also wondered why the pre-crash rumble, but I assumed it was just the anomaly-harnessing-machine losing it's grip and shaking up the island.

maven said...

Morning, gang!

Maybe the samples Juliet needs from the other woman aren't pregnancy determining samples. Maybe she just needs some blood tests to determine something to do with their fertility or hormones or whatever.

All this pregnancy talk is fun...I'm going through it with my son and daughter-in-law now! Yea!

Also, as to a unifying theory...all these pretty diverse storylines will definitely need to be unified before we loose LOST. I'm sure TPTB have a reason for all this madness and everything will neatly tie together at the end and we'll have no more questions! Yeah...right (said sarcastically)!

Black Swan said...

OMG, I'm starting to sound like my mother.... "in the old days" ha ha

Real quick, then I have to do some work.

I heard a heartbeat and could see my baby at 8 weeks with ultrasound. She looked like a kidney bean.

Speaking of all encompassing theories, what's with the water? I've been asking this from the beginning. A big issue was made of finding water in Season 1 when Jack's father led him to the spring. Water bottles have a focus in almost every scene in every episode. There is weird rain that some can predict. Then, there's the baptism focus last season. TPTB are trying to tell us something about the water on the island but I have no idea what.

Capcom said...

Yeah! Maybe Patchy took out his fake eye to insert a receiver, and when he went thru the fence it blew up, hence the blood shooting out of his ears. :o)

Wouldn't it be something if the island water from the waterfall in the caves, does something horrible to people? At any rate I would be boiling the water before I drank it, I wouldn't want to get worms or microbes from it. :-p

Joseph Finchum said...

I don't know about this water thing. I think you guys may be just reading to much into it.

Why did they need to find water... because without it... you die.

Why do they always have water bottles around... because without them you die.

Why did they need to baptise Aaron, because Charlie thought he had to save him, and in the eyes of a good Catholic boy, the first part of salvation is bing baptised... I think.

Capcom said...

I don't think that the water is particularly ominous.....I would boil it, that's all. I just don't like microbes.

As for the rain, in one of the OLPs or interviews, TPTB said that they don't really plan the rain to happen, it just rains all the time on the islands. So we can take that for what it's worth....along with the "no purgatory" and "no nanites" thing. :o)

Ded, you sound like Chuck today. :o) j/k

I just wanted to add a Bible fact to further confuse things with Naomi. Some have speculated that she is an Other. Biblical Naomi was an Israelite who left her homeland with her husband, then after the death of her husband and her sons she returned to Israel. So going on name alone, our Naomi could be returning home. Why Patchy would leave her with the LOSTies if she's an Other, I don't know, but Patchy's a pretty tricky character to figure out.

Capcom said...

LMAO Codysmom!!!!!! Thinking like Patchy, I vote for the grenade-stash-hole! Is anyone on TLC an author on Lostpedia? We have got to get this eye-hole idea into the Lost mythos. :o)

It seems so far to me like she's an other as well Memphish. Unless she was delirious from pain and whatnot, she may have been checking out languages on the group to find one that only Patchy new, and then told him that she was not alone. Knowing the Others and their seeming code of self-sacrifice (a la Bea) maybe he is supposed to leave her there to make it look like she is not an Other, regardless of whether she makes it or not. And he may be off to find the people with whom she is not alone.

i read something about sayid finding a hole in the others system and charlie being the only one that can exploit it, perhaps because of his inoculations, but it seems to be thats why they are trying to convince desmond to let charlie die cause he is their biggest weakness, as i said before i think there is signifigance to charlies messianic vision with his mom as mary and claire as MARY m and a dove flying by. Charlie is the savior figure. IN regards to desmond its like a twist on the if you had a chance to kill a young hitler would you do it, but it if you had achance to save jesus from the romans would you do it, if you did you might mess up the whole died for our sins salvation thing. Or thats what the others want desmond to think anyway...

Friday's_Child said...

Happy Sunday morning, everyone!

Y'know, the idea that Mikhail might be Smokey in disguise is such an intriguing thought. If it were so, it would make Smokey a far more formidable opponent than anyone realizes.

How would you know if any of the Others were real. Maybe that's why the Other women die; because Smokey cannot conceive with a human woman.

Ugh, that thought just made my stomach turn! It's almost bestial!

Friday's_Child said...

Wow, it's so quiet here today. Must be because it's Sunday.

I keep noticing the debate about whether or not there's a supernatural component to the Island's goings-on. It reminds me of a sermon I heard once, stating that God is not natural--He's supernatural, meaning that He is above, beyond, or more natural than us humans. Sort of along the same lines as Superman being a Super Man. Not a Ghost Man, but with powers above and beyond what we have as ordinary folks.

So, when you use the word, "Supernatural", you're not necessarily referring to spooks and ghosties. It just means that the event or entity is super, duper natural!

Well, that my philosophizing for the day. Does it make any kind of sense?

Black Swan said...

Hey everybody (hi, friday's_child)

yes, it makes sense..

As far as the women dying and the problem with conception, I've had a creepy feeling that the problem may be what they are uniting with to conceive. I'm not really thinking bestial, but maybe something that Dharma did to the Others in their experiments. Here you are on an island with no cancer and miraculous healing powers and somebody comes in an ruins it for you.

Maybe what we should be asking is what kind of experiments were being done by Dharma? If we can take our knowledge of TLE, it would be cutting the population by 30%. They were also doing something fishy with the Apollo bars... So, maybe anyone who's eaten the Apollo bars will not be able to have kids and not be able to have the healing properties of the island? Kate has had an Apollo bar, has Sun?

Here's another idea.... the Others really don't know why they can't have kids anymore. And Ben looked honestly surprised he had a tumor. They don't know about the effects of the Apollo bars!! So, Locke is kind of right that Ben is "cheating" and using Dharma's old conveniences. If the Others wouldn't touch anything Dharma, they'd be better off and not having these troubles.

If it's the Apollo Bars, that's really awful!!!! Isn't chocolate just the thing you want when your pregnant?!?!?!?! Lucky people who don't like chocolate. Wonder what percent of people don't like chocolate (30%?).

Raise your hand if you like chocolate (both my hands are raised) ha ha

Capcom said...

Hi all, hope your start of a new week is going well!

Heehee, OK, my second choice for Patchy's rent-a-hole, is the portal for the other dimension! And the way you can jump into it, is that you get elongated like at the edge of a black hole and you squeeze thru all skinny and pop out the other side! Or, a big watery poof comes out when he takes the patch off, like in Stargate, and grabs you and brings you thru. This theory is going to make Chucklez' head explode I think. :o)

Interesting thoughts 2costa. It would be dumb for TPTB to create that symbolistic (is that a word?) "tableau" of Claire and Charlie's mom on the beach in his dream, if it didn't mean anything in for future show.

I also like the thoughts on the supernatural, Friday. Maybe it should be called "paranatural", that is, outside the natural. But paranormal has too many goofy conotations attached to it as well.

Thanks Martys. But one thing does bother me about Sun, that someone reminded me of yesterday....since she knew that it was her fault that Jin had to be her dad's henchman because of her debt to him (regardless of the reason), it was totally unfair of her to blame Jin for it, and to be a big baby about it, and need to have an affair. Not nice. She should have supported Jin thru good and bad, since it was partly her choice that he had that job.

That's a good theory. I wonder how much of the Dharma-goods the Others are supposed to be taking advantage of, in proportion to how much food that they are growing on their own? TPTB could take it there, for sure.

Heehee, OK, my second choice for Patchy's rent-a-hole, is the portal for the other dimension! And the way you can jump into it, is that you get elongated like at the edge of a black hole and you squeeze thru all skinny and pop out the other side!

LOL, rent-a-hole!!!! You mean like Santa thru the chimney (a-la-Santa Claus, The Movie)?

OMG, the black/white theme of Lost could be Chocolate/Vanilla! ha ha!

In a way, if it all comes down to candy, not sure how I'd feel about that.... pretty dorky..

Black Swan said...

Actually, I'm feeling pretty dorky this weekend...

Can you tell?

Capcom said...

No theory has ever been too dorky on TLC!!!! :o) We've said it all here!

Now, if it comes down to chocolate or vanilla icecream, I would have a difficult time making a choice. I guess it would depend who of the Losties was already on each team, for me to choose.

Black Swan said...

Thanks, capcom....

I am soooooo the chocolate side, doesn't matter which Losties are on the team.... To me, it's not a difficult choice.

Capcom and Codysmom...you guys are just so silly! LOL!

Dorky Sunday! Or is it Spring Madness!?

Hey, speaking of Spring, our dear Scoutpost is suffering an afternoon temperature today which might hit a high of 100 degrees!! I know this cuz she's down in Phoenix, and I'm up here in Flagstaff.
*nannynannybooboo!* :)

(Just kiddin', Scout! Ha ha!)

Tresbien said...

I don't think Jin is the father of Sun's baby. Remember when Jack went over to Sun while she worked in the garden? During that conversation he asked if she was having morning sickness, and she said she was done with that. Since morning sickness usually occurs during the first trimester, I believe Sun's early in her second trimester and Juliet is well aware of that from the sonogram/heartbeat.

memphish said...

Tresbien, that's a good point, but of course as we've discussed here quite a bit, pregnancy rules aren't hard and fast. Would a miraculous healing island heal morning sickness?

Maybe the problem with the pregnancies is that the baby grows faster than it should and mom's body can't adjust to that. That would be a convenient way to explain a bigger Aaron and Walt not to mention the speed healing of the Island wounds.

Weather report is that it's been about 80 here in Memphis lately, but without summer's humidity and mosquitos yet. Given that Memphis in May starts this coming weekend, we should be expecting downpours every weekend for the next month.

Joseph Finchum said...

people have been talking about how Jin is In Papa Paik's debt because of Sun. This isn't true. He said "If this money is for him, he will be in my debt, but she never said that. She stuck to her guns and let it go without telling him why SHE needed the money. She never said it was for Jin so, I think it will be something else that will lead to him being in Papa Paik's Debt...
Just a thought.

Tresbien said...

Memphish, your point is good, too; it's possible Sun got over her morning sickness quickly due to the island's mystical healing properties. That aside, considering that she and Jin were at odds before the flight, he's sterile, she had an affair with another man, she and Jin fought about the bathing suit, there's a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing to this child not being Jin's.

What really baffled me is that she found Jack's concern unwelcome and then opened up with her most personal information to a stranger, an Other. Both of those interactions seemed beyond odd to me, particularly Juliet asking when she and her husband had last had sex, which wasn't germane to her pregnancy. But it was fascinating to see Sun take it all in as gospel just the way Juliet did when Ben showed her the supposed medical information of her sister.

Friday's_Child said...

Memphish,

Lord, how we crave downpours here in Arizona!!

Here it is the end of April, and we've had only barely-measurable precipitation for the past 3 months. The last snowstorm was in January!

Arizona is facing extreme drought and a horrendous fire season this year! Wa-a-a-a-a-h!

Friday's_Child said...

I don't believe that Jin is the father either. I Googled some ultrasound websites and was able to view photos of 8-week through 12-week fetuses. On Lostmedia.com, there's an up-close screen cap of Sun's baby on the ultrasound monitor, and in comparison to the photos I saw online, her fetus is too big to be only 8-weeks old.

I agree with those of you who think that Juliet knows that this child was conceived off-island, but is lying about it to trick Ben into thinking that she has solved the 'fatal pregnancies' issues. She's hoping to be the hero and get to go home once Sun successfully gives birth. More tricksy stuff...

Ange said...

Ded: "She never said it was for Jin so, I think it will be something else that will lead to him being in Papa Paik's Debt..."

I have to say I agree with you on this one. Also, I am still stuck on what we glean from knowing Jin's parentage. Nice backstory or something more?

Friday's_Child said...

Hey, Ange!

What on earth is that critter (your avatar pic)????

It's a mutant guinea pig!

Ah-h-h-h-h-h-h-h-h!!

Ange said...

That, friday, is a hamster, and I about died at the sight of it! I thought maybe we could send him to the island to power the fence an all in Ben's giant hamster wheel.

Friday's_Child said...

I guess that in Korea, the family tree is everything. Here's poor Jin, already ashamed to be the son of a fisherman. How awful would it be for him to find out that he was actually even lower than that? I.e., being the abandoned son of a prostitute and an unknown john all of a sudden makes being the son of a fisherman look pretty darned good!

Friday's_Child said...

Ha ha, Ange!!! Ok. A hamster. I should've known. I had one when I was a kid, and I forgot that that's what they look like when their cheeks are stuffed full of food.

Ahhhhhhh...a mutant hamster!!

Yes, send him to the island!!

Ange said...

I wonder if there will be some sort of a twist where Jin knows his parental history, but he doesn't think Sun does. Sun's father finds out and holds it over Jin (IE threatening to tell Sun) and so Jin ends up working for papa Paik in a deal to keep him shushed up. Kinda like that O'Henry story The Gift of the Magi but with a mean Daddy-o mobster in the mix.

Friday's_Child said...

That's a very clever scenario, Ange. Dang...poor Jin, no matter how you look at it.

The Gift of the Magi is one of my favorite Christmas stories!

Capcom said...

Ded, I took Sun not answering her father and sort of averting her eyes, when he asked the question about the money being for Jin, as saying yes. Like, in a not-saying-no fashion, so, not saying no means that you're saying yes. Or, I could be wrong. :-)

See y'all tomale!

Friday's child- yes it is a bit hot here in Phoenix! Yesterday it reached 101- our first day over 100 so far...but it will be the norm in a couple of weeks...all the way through October- ugh. Yesterday I told hubby looks like spring is over- we were outside at a agrigulture/home show, and fortunately left just before the big dust storm hit, but it was pretty cool to watch blow in.

ange that hamster is freaky! I like it!

Yeah- I got nothin' to say about LOST. Maybe tomorrow after the podcast.

wv=qzfazezq- lots of pinky action on that one.

There's a new OLP. Once I listen, I'll let everyone know how spoilery it is.

memphish said...

The spoiler level of the OLP is pretty low. It tells us in very general terms what the next episode is going to cover both on the beach and not. If you don't want any Ep 3.19 spoilers skip the pre-hash. It starts around 6 minutes (you can hear where it begins) and ends at 8:00 minutes.

It briefly covers Sun and Jin and says it's straightforward, but doesn't cover all our questions that we've been speculating about the ultrasound, the morning sickness, etc.

They talk about parachute girl's last statement. They say again it's not purgatory. Liars! :) They discuss Mikhail's reappearance.

Hey Maven
Heard about the freeway colapse there in California. How awful. Was that anywhere near you?

BLACK_ROCK said...

hey i dont think it is purgatory that would be so so so lame. Maybe that woman is a liar naomi or the others planted a plane in any case i hope its not purgatory that would suck.

memphish said...

Black_Rock, The OLP says again it's NOT Purgatory. DL and CC also said it through Kristen at E! In the OLP they said, think Capricorn One.

I've also seen, probably here, but it's too hard to go back and look that the Hanso Foundation was in charge of the search for 815 according to some documents found through the old Oceanic Airlines or some other Season 1 website. A caller on LOSTCasts suggested a scene with Richard Alpert and his eyeliner on the back of boat filming some wreckage with the Oceanic logo and some bodies somewhere in the Pacific. I could easily see that too.

Amused2bHere said...

Off to listen to the OLP, the Generally Speaking Lost podcast, and maybe check out J.Wood and see what other trouble I can get into...

Friday's_Child said...

Hmmm...I remember Capricorn One. That was the movie back in the '70's which portrayed the 1969 moon walk as being filmed on a sound stage. The astronauts were sworn to secrecy, but when they couldn't stay quiet about the scam, the government agents tried to hunt them down and kill them.

Such a vague memory, but wasn't James Brolin in that movie? (I'm too lazy to IMDB it.)

Friday's_Child said...

Ok, my curiosity got the best of me and I IMDB'd Capricorn One.

They substituted a Mars mission for the moon walk, but it was still faked. Guess Oliver Stone hadn't started making movies yet, or it would've been more well-documented. LOL!

Get this...I was right about James Brolin, but guess who else was in it? O.J. Simpson!!

*eyes rolling*

maven said...

Sayid's Girl said: Heard about the freeway colapse there in California. How awful. Was that anywhere near you?
Thanks for asking, but it's in San Francisco and I'm in LA. I shudder at the traffic jam though!

I'm going with my original feeling that the 815 wreckage was staged by whomever (Mittelos/Widmore/Paik?) since TPTB brought up the Capricorn One movie being about a staged Moon walk.

memphish said...

I don't think the world would need much to stop searching judging by what happened earlier this year with that Indonesian plane that disappeared.

thinbluemime said...

why stage a crash?

"It was just lost at sea", would seem a plausible explanation, if no crash remnants were recovered.

Recovering FAKE debris, would open up the potential detection by investigators.

I know what the producers said, but it doesn't smell right to me.

Are we getting a clue that is a misdirection by Cuse and Lindelof?

Tess315 said...

Hey I guess I was right in thinking maybe the fence had different strengths. DL& CC said that maybe the fence wasn't turned up high enough to kill Patchy.

Maven
L.A. huh I'll have to remember that. California is such a big state. I have an uncle who lives in San Diego.

memphish said...

TBM, I think it may be as simple as dragging real tail section and fuselage debris to a deep trench maybe with your submarine. I don't know where they would get bodies though since Eko recovered those in the water with the tail section and they burned the ones in the fuselage. I don't know that they really need them. Occam's Razor, ironically would apply. If you find airplane debris in the ocean, everyone died.

maven said...

Memphish, I'm with you. From your example of the Indonesian plane, it doesn't take much to paint a picture of "no survivors". Real pieces of the 815 plane could have been taken away from the island (they couldn't found out where people were searching) and when they were found, assumptions could have been made that no on survived.

Friday's_Child said...

Hey, I know...plant some fake debris in the ocean, and then turn loose a couple dozen of those Dharma-engineered sharks to circle the wreckage, thus discouraging salvage attempts, and also explaining where all the bodies went.

Akkk...

memphish said...

Yeah Friday's_Child, Dharma Sharks! Speaking of which, where's Tim and his land shark?

wv=toldhur

I guess there is some value in WVs.

Friday's_Child said...

Yay, Memphish! You gave me something new to go look up: Occam's Razor!

I looked it up on Wiki, and this is the simplest definition:

"All things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the best one."

Announcement: "Flight 815 simply crashed into the ocean and the people were eaten by sharks. Weird-lookin' sharks, but sharks nonetheless."

Ok, guys, let's wrap it up and go home to our Tim Tams and Vegemite."

Friday's_Child said...

Also, to add yet another definition: Occam's Razor = Why look for a zebra when there's a horse right in front of you?

Sounds like something House would say! :)

Ange said...

I have a question...well my friend does, via me I guess. How did Jack know that Sun was pregnant? I honestly can't remember her telling him, did we ever see that happen, or do we just assume he knows via everyone else?

Capcom said...

Good Q Ange, I was thinking the same thing as he was asking her about it. Either I missed it, can't remember it, or we are just to assume that everyone, or at least the A-team, knows about it now.

maven said...

Hey, Ange! I couldn't remember a specific scene where Jack learns of Sun's pregnancy. But Jim was a "proud papa" and might of told other Losties. I think it's just one of those things that we have to assume of talked about and we didn't see.

maven said...

*Jin!

Ange said...

Thanks Capcom and Maven...I am glad that my memory isn't as bad I was thinking it was:D.

memphish said...

Ange, my LOST geekiness rides to your rescue, well your "friend's." In "The Whole Truth" after Kate and Sun read the pregnancy test they show it to Jack. He says that it means she's pregnant. That early on you might get a false negative, but that a positive was pretty much a positive.

In the same episode, Sawyer and Bernard discuss the fact that they think Sun is pregnant as well, though that is mere speculation on Sawyer's part. I don't know if the whole group was ever told or not.

Finally, to end the geekiness parade, Sayid probably witnessed Sun's bout of morning sickness on the Elizabeth during LTDA, but he may have merely written it off as sea-sickness.

maven said...

Wow, what a memory, Memphish! LOL

memphish said...

To follow-up, ever since Jack said that about an early false negative, I've expected that Sarah's negative pregnancy test was such a false negative and that she was pregnant when they split. I really expected in TOTC for Sarah to be pregnant while they were going through divorce proceedings.

I suppose it could still be the case that Sarah was indeed pregnant, but that either (a) it was the other man's, not Jack's (b) that she miscarried or (c) she got an abortion because she didn't want Jack and Christian to screw up her kid. Or some variation thereof.

I also wonder if because of the surgery to make her walk again it would be dangerous for her to be pregnant. That was the other route I thought they might go with that, but no, it was just creepy stalker, punch out your father Jack.

Off to watch Heroes! Catch y'all tomorrow. BTW Scoutpost it was over 90 here today, but it was a dry heat. Ha Ha! It's too early to be that hot. 1 hour cutting the grass gave me a farmer's tan.

You must keep notes like me. I just got back on the blog and seen Ange's question about Jack knowing she was pregnant. I see you knew too. I had to go back and see which episode it was in I only remembered her tell Jack it was none of his business when she told Jin. Sometimes I don't have in my notes what's asked though. Alot of times I just forget. That's why I take notes it helps me to form theories.

Tess315 said...

Oh of course Memphish you don't need notes on Jack what was I thinking. Silly me. :)

maven said...

In the Spoiler section of DarkUFO (I know, I know...I'm not gonna give a spoiler!), there's scans of pages from the current TV Guide. Before they begin to discuss this weeks episode, they say that Naomi brought news that Flight 815 crashed and they all died, "their lifeless bodies later recovered". She didn't say that, did she?

This would screw up our theory that someone staged a crash site with debris, etc.

Tess315 said...

Maven
I didn't hear that either. Maybe tv guide messed up and that's part of this weeks episode. I'm assuming we'll hear some of her story this week.

Capcom said...

Even without going back to check, she did not say that Maven. At least not on my TV! According to Lostpedia she says, "There were no survivors. They were all dead."

Maybe what was in TV Guide was an alternate script, or a cut part of the scene?

maven said...

Well, I hope that wasn't something spoilery for this week's episode! But in TV Guide, the way it was written, made you think it was said in last week's episode.

Anyway, Clancy Brown (Kelvin/Inman) has a big part of "The Riches" (on F/X) tonight.

Friday's_Child said...

Thank you, thank you, Maven, for mentioning "The Riches". I love that show!! I try to tape it every week (cuz it's on long after I've turned into a pumpkin), but I usually forget!
