Our favorite show has returned at a new time 10/9 Central! I'm sure there'll be plenty of chatting about the episode and the following controversial website...
Check out mittelosbioscience.org. It's very TLE-ish and is curiously related to the "Not in Portland" episode! In the "Projects" section use "jburke" as a username and "rachel" as a password.
While the Mittelos Bioscience site seems really legit and has several direct ties to the show, the following statement was made on the Fuselage Boards by Gregg Nations: "Mittelos Bioscience...is not an official website. What is it counting down to? The day of a new Lost epsiode? I'm not sure what they plan on doing with it, but it certainly won't have any secrets or inside information."
Sure looks "real"...what do you think?

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 402 Newer› Newest»Hmmmm... interesting, chuck. So, Karl tried to escape, so he goes in room 23, with the psychological image torture. Maybe another crime would warrant room 15, with Chinese water torture or something?
admin. see you then. i'm out, too.
for real. i swear.
good night everyone.
Did you all catch the Star Wars reference that Sawyer used right before they get Carl?
Also, there were so many familiar pictures in the brainwashing room, Clockwork orange room. I think I even saw a picture of Alvar Hanso!
he was also on Suddenly Susan, I think..... was he just on 24?
i wonder what the brainwashing thing was all about.
I'm figuring the good Easter Eggs are buried in the screen caps given what Carlton Cuse said in interviews I read today. Like what was the name of the company run by Mr. Ex-Juliet? They showed her swipe her card, but I didn't catch it.
And it's in Miami? A Cuban connection? Do we have anything Cuban yet?
So do we think that what Juliet was shooting into her sister was the same thing that Ethan was shooting into Claire? The screen shot will be very reminiscent, no doubt.
And Ethan wins for Bad Flashback Hair for this episode with Mr. Ex-Juliet (his name is Edmund Burke if my name for him is bothering you) is a close second and Juliet's wasn't that bad.
one more and i'm gone.
melissa: i'm saying that whatever they were trying to accomplish in that room, (psychologically "programming") someone to "prevent" or ultimate fate.
remember what it said on the screen?
"we are to fault for our own end" or some crap like that. that's not verbatim, but you get the idea.
Yeah the recruite has been on the x-files and i'm not sure about 24, but he looks very familiar.
sorry. i know i just got here but i have to go. but ill be back tomorrow.
as for a west coaster I thought that in the past east coast and west coast had different threads to post in during an episode. I guess that no longer exists. I will just come back after the episode, and talk with maven. BY the way sawyer was just in a commmercial that said "Don't trust the "others", watch news ten." Just thought that was funny.
Suddenly Susan! That was it. He was the cute photographer.
Oh...before I go. The Mittelos site now has confetti and a flashing "February 7". Weird.
I also wanted to point out...If someone faked the site based on spoilers and scripts, how were they able to know about and perfectly replicate the logo that we saw on tonight's episode?
Oh yeah, Ethan had the worst hair by far. And was he following Juliet? At the end, she didn't seem to remember having seen him outside of her sister's apartment.
there's a St. Vincent just northeast of south america.
good night.
Juliet's ex totally reminds me of Jack Bauer's brother on this season and season 5 of 24. He was Dr. Romano on ER too.
memphish: eww........"cute"??? the recruiter???
you need to change your taste in guys i think.
and again........good night.
Yeah, Melissa, installation art that like really fails to impress. It's a total "the Emperor's not wearing any clothes!" type of thing. Or maybe they really are subversives trying to brainwash people! :-p
Did Sawyer and Kate know about Danielle's baby's name? I thought only Sayid knew. Memory escapes me at the moment.
Anything new at Mittelos? Going to go check now.
But Admin, if it's real, wouldn't it be better?
okay, I checked imdb, and I was wrong, no 24 - he was in an episode of Scrubs that I just saw, so maybe that's what I was thinking of. He was also in dennis' favorite, Day Break!
Capcom, I think Kate knows that Alex is Rousseau's daughter. Didn't she hear it in Maternity Leave? Sawyer wouldn't know though. These people never talk.
mittelos just shows the Service Unavailable error for me - I agree that it's kind of a crappy looking site, but I also wonder how they got that logo.
So it looks like Jack ratting out Juliet is going to come back to haunt her. Further, the thing that Jack and Juliet both want is to GO HOME. So I guess that's what's going to bring them together. And in advance I say Yuck!
yeah, I thought Kate knew, at least
I also can't figure out why Jack wants to go home. His home life looked, eh, not so great, in the umpteen flashbacks he's already had.
Okay, so next to Ben Tom is totally my favorite Other and I've gotten bonus points tonight with Pickett's death in the TV Squad Lost Death Pool Contest! What song do you think they'll play for him? Same as Colleen? I vote for the theme from "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." Pickett fits two of those.
memphis, juliet's ex was also in an episode of The X-files. That was a really weird episode if I recall. When I first saw him in tonight's episode, I couldn't help but remember how he was in The X-Files episode.
I tried going to Mittelos's website and it's down.
yeah, but at least he had clean underpants and cold beer at home.... I'm just saying, you know?
Anybody still here?
Do you really think Jack wants beer? Think Daddy.
mmmm.... good point, memphish - maybe's he's after some clean boxers and an ice cold glass of chocolate milk, then.
So given what Juliet says about how Jack won't let a patient die on the table and later Tom says since the sky turned purple . . . implying that that event changed things, I'd say that the file Juliet was leafing through at the end of "A Tale of Two Cities" was real. Any thoughts?
I'm here memphish, heck I would want more than just a beer after being on that godforsaken island.
Any thoughts on tonight's episode memphish?
Did everyone notice that by the time Sawyer and Kate decided to run it had stopped raining? Good news for our Losties!
At first I thought the file was a fake, now I'm thinking that it was real.
So I'm rolling the thoughts out. Yes I took notes. I am a geek! Actually, I'm so old the term geek didn't exist when I became one. So here's the next observation. Alex has dug spider holes all over the place just like Sadaam Hussein.
Sawyer also heard Tom say that their communications had been down since the sky turned purple - seems like the Others have been scrambling since then. I have to wonder if the whole captivity experience would have been different if everything had still been up and running.
Loved the episode!!
Things I noticed (pausing on dvr) Sign outside of building when Juliet is sneaking in at night says: Security Level 5
Juliet's access card:
Miami Central University
Medical Research Lab
Restricted Access Card
Research Lab A-4
I really hope they don't do a Jack/Juliet thing ...............
Chucklez, I think (IMHO) that the words on the screen in the Clockwork room were to brainwash you (Karl) into thinking that it's your fault that you are being punished here in this room, so be good and then you don't have to get punished anymore. Ergo, you are in control of your life, and you can obey the rules and be happy. Pretty typical Commie techniques from the old days.
Admin, some people got pre-released vids of the ep, didn't they? Didn't Doc Jensen? I'm just sayin'. :o) But still hopin'.
I don't think that we ever had separate threads for each coast on TLC, Christine.
Great thoughts everyone, I'm so glad that you guys catch what I miss in the show!
So my surgeon husband who already likes to joke about the "kidney sac," I didn't let him see the part where Ben regained consciousness under anesthesia. That's a totatl suspend you're belief moment. Trust me when I say to you that Jack would not have erred on that side of administering the correct amount of whatever it was he used. Hubby came in at one point and said "WTH" and I told him to go away and not ruin my watching experience, but yeah, I know.
which begs the question - is Alex super sneaky or are the Others really preoccupied? She seems to have gotten quite a bit past them.
Also, I found Juliet's assertion that Ben would insist on seeing Alex when he woke up strange. When Alex was there before, Ben asked rather timidly if she had asked to see him.
OK, I loved that Ben is Alex's "Dad." Do we think this is biological or not? Anyone?
Also, I loved how either Sawyer or Kate said "do you have some kind of tunnel or boat." The tunnel thing was so a nod to the theorists out here in the ethernet.
No way is Ben her biological father - he's just twisted enough to kidnap a baby and then raise her to believe that she's his.
Alex is super sneaky; she reminds me of when I was a teenager:)
I was almost laughing when Ben woke up and started talking with his back all opened up..
What do you think of Juliet's ability to get a male mouse pregnant? (I think it's brilliant, even if he didn't carry full-term -- it's a start...)
I've never really bought the Rousseau is an Other theory - I think she's bonkers, but she's not a plant.
Oh, so what do we think about the 26 year old womb that looked like a 70 year olds? I was thinking before the episode aired that the reason they (and I still don't know who I think they is) want Juliet is that she could create life in dead wombs kind of like those really old women in Britain that seem to keep having babied (no offense DA). It also alludes to Sarah in the Bible, the wife of Abraham who conceived the promised child Issac when she was in her 90s and he in his 100s. And Isaac was the father of Jacob, and Jacob was the father of Benjamin.
Wow, what a great return to Lost! No disappointment here.
I'm one of the lucky ones, my husband and college aged son watch with me, even try to deconstruct the eps with me. Not into the online stuff so much, they leave that to me and I fill in their blanks.
Raise your hand if you got a little misty when you heard the Dharma music during the playing of the orientation tape (for those who watched the Lost Survivor Guide). I know I did!
I really hope the Mittleos Bioscience site is legit. With clues in each episode, a concurrent experience would be so sweet! Really hard to do, but sweet all the same.
Here was Juliet's most telling line tonight I think. She says to Nestor (I think his character name was Mr. Alpert like on the website): "Whatever you think I am, I'm not." I think this is where they've been going with her all season. And have I mentioned before (I know I have) I don't like her! And her and Jack! NOOOO!
Could the womb be tied into the life extention project? A woman who has undergone treatment to revert to the condition she was in when she was 26 - but for some reason, her womb was unaffected?
And on a sort of disgusting note, the pregnant male mouse made me think of that weird site in TLE that said "a mouse has more than one hole" or something like that.
Hit by a bus! Saw that coming a block away!
Dig Y'all Later,
Minow Bisciut
melissa_lossa, the mouse/hole thing made me laugh!
Next thing. The guy Aldo outside Clockwork Orange facility which had a Hydra station logo BTW was reading "A Brief History of Time," which Doc Jensen told us to watch for. Now if Sawyer reads it, that's one thing, but I'm not reading just any old thing Aldo is reading.
So, did mittelos want Juliet so badly that they smushed her ex to get him out of the way?
thanks, memphish - it made me cringe :)
Memphish, you are smokin' tonight! Maybe the 70 year old womb in the 20 year old is...well, perhaps the recruiter should be saying, "She has been living on an island that had an 'incident'..oh yeah, the place that we want to take you!"
Yep, I yelled when Tom said that "...ever since the sky turned...." line, MAN! I guess that TPTB are really going to let us twist in the wind over that one before they tell us. Boohoo.
Yay for the the Dharma music, yeah! I was even singing the words from the funny Youtube version (..I am Alvar Hanso, I am on an island...). :-D Man, this whole Lost experience is so fun. We owe TPTB a lot.
Just wanted to verify that, thanks to slow-mo DVR playback, there was a picture of Alvar Hanso during the Room 23 video (it was during the part that had the white lines quickly scribled across the screen...I actually think some of the white scribbles looked like some of the glyphs we saw way back when); it was actually THE picture of Alvar Hanso in his Bio page at the Hanso Foundation website. That's all for now...great episode! -CJ, funnybecauseitstrue.blogspot.com
Said it earlier and someone else referenced it too, but I love the "Wookie" reference Sawyer made. My household is in Star Wars original trilogy high fever these days courtesy of the Lego video game and the DVDs I got for my birthday back in December and a 7 year old. For those of you who don't know the scene was in Ep. 6 "Return of the Jedi" when they are trying to rescue Han from Jabba.
Ewwwwwwwwwwww
a mouse has more than one hole

I like this theory

So, did mittelos want Juliet so badly that they smushed her ex to get him out of the way?
yep
So this is the other thing I want to know about Juliet's experiment. Where is the dad? Is this asexual like the Komodo Dragon that had a virgin birth recently? Also, was that a Widmore pregnancy test?
I loved the wookie reference, too. I found it especially funny because they described Sawyer as being like Han Solo in the recap special.
And my household is hooked on the lego games as well (and Star Wars as a whole). We just don't have any kids.....
And here's the other thing, what exactly is the ethical issue involved in Juliet's research? Is it non-male needed reproduction, in which case they need to stop killing all the women on this show and start killing some men other than poor Boone and Eko and yucky Pickett. Or is it that she would allow a woman who had cancer to get pregnant? I knew a woman who was pregnant who as a result found out she had caner. The standard treatment is to not treat the cancer to allow the baby to develop and be born, then treat mom.
I also want to know, about Juliet's experiment - what was it about her sister that made her unable to have kids? This seemed to be some kind of radical treatment, so there must have been something big preventing her sister from getting pregnant. I mean, more than a normal fertility problem.
I'd concur about them killing Juliet's husband. She doesn't seem to have any Walt-like powers. :o) And it also might have been an obvious way to say to her, "Just come with us, or we can do something ugly to you too." We may find that she actually felt forced to go with them. Ew.
Ok, I think Karl and Alex are cute. They kind of mirror Sawyer and Kate don't they. Karl said "I love you," but Alex didn't. I think Sawyer noticed that too. Where did Karl come from? Any guesses?
I wonder who else is being kept there against their will. Miss Klugh, perhaps?
So they are "Not QUITE in Portland." So where are they? Are they just off the coast? Doubtful, but still. That was a laugh.
Alex and Karl seem to have known each other for a while, so I doubt that he was on the plane. Perhaps a victim of another crash?
Sadly, I think I'm going to have to sign off now. Time for bed.
I'll talk to you all tomorow! Good night!
Okay, my little Jater heart was breaking during the whole Kate telling Jack the story thing.
And BTW, the whole Tom holding up the walkie talkie--that's real. I call my husband all the time when he's in surgery, and the nurses do that. Remember that the next time you go under. I may be calling to discuss who picks up the dry cleaning. Really, I'm JK about that. I only interrupt him in surgery if it's important, and he only let's me interrupt him, if he's at a place where he can let me.
Well, the coffee's wearing off and I am babysitting the nephews tomorrow, so I'm signing off. Good night ladies (and whatever gents are left).
Much to dream about tonight. I look forward to reading your 300 jillion posts tomorrow!!!!! :o)
Tonight was too awesome for words. TPTB certainly delivered.
whew hoo! It's back! I'm here, but obviously have a lot of catching up to do.
So that's it for me and my notes, yes notes. But I'll be back tomorrow. I have to run carpool, but other than that I'm here. Scary. I agree with Admin I can't wait to rewatch. Night all. Maven and Christine#2 I hope you enjoyed, and Christine #2, I'm sorry if I messed anything up for you.
As soon as Juliet said that maybe if her exhusband got hit by a bus then she'd be free to say yes to Mittleos...I knew Edmund was a goner. By bus! Nice shout-out to the deathbybus of Final Destination fame, by the way.
A brief history of time. Stephen Hawking's book from 1988? Light reading for another book club, eh?
And after reviewing the upcoming clips over and over, my son picked up on the guy behind Kate being picked off by slingshot, namely Alex!
Spider holes like Hussein? Brrr! I think she was doing what she'd seen the Others do on the main Island: that's how they are able to appear and disappear around the island without a trace. And I bet that's what happened to Cindy!
capcom, I couldn't agree wih you more, Lost is back and in rare form I might add.
Well, I'm back... what did I miss :)
I'll catch up with comments and be back in a sec...
Here's a theory:
Juliet made a male mouse "pregnant". Okay, so if she can get a mouse without a uterus to conceive, then perhaps her sister also had no womb, and Juliet was able to construct an artificial uterus and help her sister Rachel conceive. Perhaps the baby is based on cloning techniques, that would make sense of the "unethical" comment. First human clone? Oh, yes, definitely controversial.
amused2behere, I bet you're right about Cindy. Great idea.
Yeah, that's right. I actually went to bed, and I'm back.
I wanted to mention, how great was that opening where it looked like Juliet was in the medical hatch (what was that thing called? The Staff? Can't remember.) and Ethan (with Flashback hair) walks by and it turns out to be her sister's apartment. Loved it. I feel like the episode was loaded with shoutouts like that to us old-timers, but also stood on its own like watching Raiders of the Lost Ark. I told hubby if he could have stood watching it with me commenting constantly and shouting, well, you know, he would have enjoyed it.
Ok all caught up. That was an awesome episode. And I guess we'll have to keep an eye on that Mittelos website- boy I'm torn on that one.
Memphish and all-you have some good thoughts going. I don't even know where to jump in. I might have to think on this a while.
I guess I missed a lot. Sorry I wasn't around everybody. Unfortunately, I don't get home until around 11:30 PM on Wednesdays, so I didn't finish watching until after 12:00.
Well they got it worked out Dennis, so no worries. I'm west coast (sort of) and I stayed away until it was done here.
Yeah. Sorry for the west-coasters, but we've always had 1 post per episode. I know ITE has two posts...
Wow. What a great episode. I'm so pumped, I think I'll go watch it again :)
FWIW, I am 100% confident that the Mittelos site is fake. I think people should enjoy it for what it is, but I don't think it is "official".
well Maven should be here any moment. Do any of ya'll think Ethan Rom is like the "sideler" guy from Seinfeld? I mean he always just shows up next to you without warning and smiles that creepy smile. Someone give that man a box of tictacs.
Funny how creepy Ethan ends up fixing Juliet's plumbing on the island, I guess their relationship goes way back,eh?
I'm confused...did Juliet think that SHE was the one who caused her ex to get hit by the bus? As if she could manipulate the future by just wishing something? Or did she think that Mittelos caused it in order to recruit her?
friday's child: I think Juliet was accusing Alpert of arranging the bus accident, but he turned it around as if she were blaming herself out of grief (he was intentionally being obtuse about her accusation, feigning innocence).
Thanks, amused2bhere. I think I just need to go watch the episode again...a lot a things zoomed right past me!
I too snickered when Ben woke up from surgery, and wasn't screaming with pain. Hey, maybe he didn't scream because he's now paralyzed. Wasn't paralysis one of the risks of the back surgery to begin with? Will we now see Ben in a wheelchair, like poor Christopher Reeve?
Regarding room 23: I wonder how deep the Clockwork Orange comparison goes.
If I remember correctly, the device used in A Clockwork Orange used images of violence and audio of Beethoven, both of which the subject found pleasurable, and drug induced nausea, so that the subject would come to associate violence (and Beethoven) with pain, thus taking a very violent criminal and rendering him unable to commit violence. Very behavior modification, keeps in theme with the bear cages and the fishbiscuits.
This begs the question: were they also using drugs on Carl? He was being forced to watch the videos, he was being bombarded by LOUD audio as well, and it seems to me he was being sleep deprived somehow. Perhaps chemically? To what end? "Thou shalt not escape?" or (more likely) "Leave Alex alone"
Or maybe that's what he was speaking to Juliet about during their secret conversation, something along the line of, "Why bother killing me now, Jules. I'm paralyzed and am no longer a threat to you."
"A Clockwork Orange" was one of my favorite movies from 1971. After seeing it, the image of Malcolm McDowell with his eyelids pinned back while he watched violent videos made quite an impression on me!
Karl was lucky that he was only made to wear goggles!!
I didn't see this on Sledgeweb...
One of the first images we see in the "film" is a yellow flower, with the words:
Plant a good
seed and you
will joyfully
gather fruit
Fits in nicely with the whole fertility theme. Maybe Alex is pregnant and that's why she wanted to find Karl?
'heather's brain' is referring to the Mittelos website, after you click on Rachel's 'New Message' to Juliet, and that creepy image & voice interrupts the video of the little girl.
And yes, experimentalfilm, we're all speculating about the similarity between Mittelos & Mittelwerk. I even held my breath during tonight's episode when Juliet had her first meeting with Mr. Alpert. I was SO hoping that it would be T. Mittelwerk in the flesh, there to recruit her!!
Except that it couldn't be Mittelwerk, because of the timelines involved.
Wow, can't keep my sleepy eyes open wide enough to type...I need some Clockwork Orange eyelid extenders!
Goodnight y'all!!
Listen, I was so excited when I saw all this on the website and THEN went and read your comments up top. Sorry. I should have read first. I had no idea this was up for two days already.
I guess I just miss the OLD days of the arg so much I was ready to play.
again, sorry. When I saw the mis title on one of the execs bios and connetcted him to LDS and so on, I though I hit gold...back to ho hum reality again :)
Heather's Brain said...Sorry. I should have read first. I had no idea this was up for two days already.
It's OK. Don't worry about it :)
out for me, i gotta sleep too.
I hope there's a new post tomorrow. We're gonna need it!
Nite all!
Me too! Though I think I might need to digest.
I guess the question of the night is...does anyone know anyone that can read lips. I wana know what Ben really said.
Awesome episode! So many things to talk about...I'm tired, too, like everyone else.
This Mittelos thing is so intriguing. The graphics on the show looked very similar to the website. So they're the recruiters for Dharma. I thought I saw a screen shot on Juliet's computor of an island before she was called into her ex's office by Sherry (the new Research Assistant). Did anyone catch that?
I am loving the discussion on TAILSECTION about black holes and "A Brief History of Time"
very interesting...
I am going to bed now to think it all over, let my subconscience work!
Dennis, it seems as though you and David are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You seem to think that the Mittelos site is a fake, yet David is leaning strongly towards it being 'in-game'. At least, that's how he's coming across; almost like he's trying to convince us! Ha ha!
I know, I know...I said 'goodnight' ten minutes ago, but this blog is SO addictive, and until my eyeballs fall out of my head, I guess I'll still be sitting here!
My hubby has a funny saying, "Time to go soak your eyeballs in epsom salt." Ewwwwww...
Hi, Maven! Darn it! Just as you've arrived, I need to hit the sack!
Catch up with you all in the morning!
During the "Clockwork Orange" thing: These are the sayings..."Everything changes"..."We are the causes of our suffering"...."Think about your life"....and..."God loves you as He did Jacob"
Something tells me I'm here by myself! LOL I'm going to sleep...see you guys in the AM!
AWESOME DREAMS!
maven - I was totaly amused by the reserch assistant joke, as well as the Star Wars joke. Go Wookies! And can they make Ethan any creepier!?!
My poor ARG brain went wankie as soon as I saw Sherry. I kept seeing LOKI (She was the face of the recent Microsoft ARG) I realise they look nothing alike, but my brain kept trying to make the jump. :)
maven said...I thought I saw a screen shot on Juliet's computor of an island before she was called into her ex's office by Sherry (the new Research Assistant). Did anyone catch that?
It looks like it was DNA sequences that she was looking at.
Friday's_Child said... Dennis, it seems as though you and David are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You seem to think that the Mittelos site is a fake, yet David is leaning strongly towards it being 'in-game'.
I'm the man of science, David is the man of faith :)
Well good night all!
Hey, I was a nice girl and left so all the easter could chat. About that mittelos site.... people could have snuck pics out of the sneak previews at harvard. Go to the spoiler section and check out about the sneak preview that was held for harvard students. I still think the site is fake. Sorry if this was mentioned above, but there have been so many posts, i skiped a few on my way here. Maven, I was so hoping to talk. I will see you tomorrow ig guess. DId you guys also read about some anagram in the show that will tell us alot about things that will happen, and that there was some message on a billboard somewhere?
I ment the spoiler section on dark UFO. Sorry.
Now upon further investigaton I feel this anagram they are talking about is the "lost time" Mittelos thing. Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt lost time referring to being abducted by aliens, or amnesia or something? Any ideas about what they mean?
Christine, sorry I wasn't here for the confusion earlier...
trying to catch up on comments. I cannot believe some of the old ARG's are falling for this Mitellos Bioscience site.
1. There would be no reason to start another ARG now. There are 15 consecutive weeks of LOST coming up. The ARG is to fill time between seasons of LOST.
2. ABC did a pretty elaborate marketing campaign for the the TLC, and we didn't even get a commercial or anything leading us to it, othet than a mention of the company name on the show. Paik industries, widmore labs are two classic examples of this. Fake sites that hit the web with no ABC marketing ploy and before they were a major part of the show.
3. No link to ABC terms and conditions. All previous sites have been registered to ABC and have contained a link to the Disney terms and conditions.
4. The website is designed poorly and changed immediately after the epi.
It's a cool site by someone who obviously had some inside info on tonights epi. I have no doubt about being fake, and will eat my words with mustard if proven wrong.
The point of Mittelos was an anagram referring to how time moves on the island. Mittelos = LOST Time. Something is very weird about the X rays of the 26 yr old woman who's womb looks 70, and the guard Aldo reading the History of Time. TPTB mentioned there would be an anagram and some easter eggs in tonights show.
Anyway, going to catch up now.

oh and to giggity, giggity or whatever his name was.........
HA!!!!!!!! Frist, it's diggity.
Second, we'll see who gets the last laugh and who is gullable.
where's all the west coasters?
I really did enjoy todays episode. Definately better than "i do". I am going to watch it again and look for some hidden things! See ya tomorrow!
All caught up. Here’s my comments. I’m sure I’ll be reposting since no one is around.
1. The others are a mixed bag: While Ben was born on the island and “lived there all his life”, Juliett was an import. The others are not a group of children raised from birth on the island. They’re a mixed bag of imports and originals. They can also come and go to the island freely as many of us suspected.
2. Juliet is gifted as Walt and Jack are seen to be: This is pretty obvious at this point, but Juliett is perceived to have special powers in the field of fertility just as Walt was scene as special, and Jack is regarded as a gifted spinal surgeon. Fertililty must be one of the experiments they have on the island and need Julietts’ help with. The experiment must be wacky if they have a 26 yr old who’s insides look 70.
3. Implied circumstances: The recruiter seemed so mob-ish to me. Comments like “Maybe we could reach out to him on your behalf.”, “Were came because we’re that serious about getting you to come and work with us” “Just gives us 6 months and if you need to you can be back before your sister gives birth.” The tactics seemed very La Cosa Nostra to me. Implying circumstances or things you could do if you, but never going as far as to say you will do them. Juliett obviously feared the recruiter could conveniently remember her comment about the bus, and potentially harm her sister or let it out that Juliett made some questionable medical decisions using her sister as a test subject.
3. Mittelos = Lost Time: TPTB stated we would find an anagram and some easter eggs that shed light on the Adam and Eve skeletons from season one. The Xray of the 26 old who Juliett thought was 70, the Brief History of Time book that Aldo was reading had to be linked somehow. I have no clue!!
4. Clockwork orange scene: nice shout out to a classic movie. Things I noticed and many others did also
a. Door 23
b. Quick pic of hanso
c. Pics of Gerald DeGroot. One in goggles as they leave the room, and a different picture reflected onto Carl as they remove his glasses.
d. God loves you as he loves Jacob. Jacob is the one that created the list that Jack wasn’t on. Also, the bible story we discussed in the past.
e. Plant a seed and you will joyfully gather fruit with pic of flower behind it

5. Juliett being held against her will: “Just gives us 6 months and if you need to you can be back before your sister gives birth.” Well since she has been there three some odd years, and she made a deal with devil (Ben) to get off the island, she is obviously not there because she wants to be.
6. Alex was raised as Ben’s daughter: Alex was raised as Ben’s daughter. Does she have any clue she was abducted from her Mom, or is the whole Rosseau thing another others hoax. I still lean to her being an other.
7. The sky turned purple: Even though Ben implied the button hatch was a joke, ever since it blue up thay have lost their ability to do certain things. (Leave the island, communicate off the island, or communicate with each other.) I’m not sure exactly what, but this is the second time Tom has inferred that the purple sky has hurt their abilites.
8. Sawyer’s observation about Juliett is correct. Sawyer told Kate Juliett would have killed her in cold blood. He was spot on as she wasted Danny in a second so she can go home.
9. Others refer to Losties by last name. Shepherd, Austin, Ford. I would think James, Jack, and Kate would be pretty easy. Thought that was weird.
Good stuff West Coasters. Catch up with later this am.
It took me all night to realize this but Juliet was in Miami and when last we saw Flashback Kate/Monica she was too. Don't think there is any other connection, but it's kind of odd that we're in the same city in back to back epis.
Was Juliet's ex-husband's name Edmund Burke? If so, that's another name to add to the list of philosophers we've got going so far.
Scoutpost said:Do any of ya'll think Ethan Rom is like the "sideler" guy from Seinfeld? Agree!
There was some earlier discussion about the bus. What if Juliet was able to make the bus fly into her ex like Walt did with the bird? After all, she did seem to surprise him there on the street and delay him. The bus was just idling around the corner waiting for Nestor or Ethan's go? Just an idea. Don't know if I buy it myself.
Isibell said:does anyone know anyone that can read lips. I wana know what Ben really said. Someone read the sign language back in the ARG. Mabye they can help with this too?
My bigger question about that is can we believe what Juliet told Jack that Ben said she could leave? My favorite Juliet line was "Whatever you think I am, I'm not." Plugging Pickett put to rest any doubts about that I'd say.
DiggityDirge said:1. The others are a mixed bag: While Ben was born on the island and “lived there all his life”, Juliett was an import. The others are not a group of children raised from birth on the island. They’re a mixed bag of imports and originals. They can also come and go to the island freely as many of us suspected. So which is Ethan?
DiggityDirge also said:7. This is an excellent point. Why wasn't Ben more concerned then on the pier? Also, why didn't Ben leave 2 months ago to have the surgery? He'd be back by now running things if he had.
Back again later this am.
Good points! I also liked how Sawyer was hypnotized for a min till kate snapped him out of it during the brainwashing scene. Um, and the recruiter guy, can't remember his name.... was he wearing eyeliner? LMAO. I also think the billboard that damon lindelof was talking about was the apollo sign on the bus.
Juliets sister looks like she is going thru chemotherapy, or was. I know that sometimes it is impossible to concieve after chemo, because it damages ovaries/sperm etc. So Juliets serum reversed that somehow?
umm..capcom....just a comment on you umm...."educating me" on techniques of "old commies".
you DO realize i'm a former MARINE, right?
Which is why i hated the episode with sayid setting that horrible trap.
just horrible for someone who is supposedly so "skilled".
eh.

"Oh, so what do we think about the 26 year old womb that looked like a 70 year olds? I was thinking before the episode aired that the reason they (and I still don't know who I think they is) want Juliet is that she could create life in dead wombs kind of like those really old women in Britain that seem to keep having babied (no offense DA). It also alludes to Sarah in the Bible, the wife of Abraham who conceived the promised child Issac when she was in her 90s and he in his 100s. And Isaac was the father of Jacob, and Jacob was the father of Benjamin."
on that, that would explain the empty graves of anna lucia and "friends". ;)
BTW.....i have yelled out the theory on "cloning" from WAY back in like July!!!
for some reason, everyone wants to debunk that idea. eh. we'll see.
to be more precise, i was thinking "accelerated" cloning.
which would explain JOOP.
diggity....that's what we call "sarcasm" the "giggity" thing. it's a family guy reference (quagmire).
and yeah. considering some of your statemnts don't hold water (coming and going freely and what have you), i can hardly hold credence in your "the site is fake, you'll see" demeanor.
i'm not even saying 100% that the site is fake or real.
just that everything in the site is well done (with the exception of the "invalid login") and that everything referenced is accurate and was covered in last night's episode.
so, long story, short........zzzzzZZZZzzzZzZZZZzZZzzzzzZZZZZZZzzzZZZzzzzzZZzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZzzzz
but regardless of anything....yesterday, i made comments about mittelwerk teaming up with mentos to creat 'mittelos'. so yeah. we see the (obvious) connection.
and last night, during the episode, I made a comment about Mittelos being a front in the past for Mittelwerk to recruit people for DHARMA-duty (island duty).
and by the way diggity, when i said it was "sarcasm", that was sarcasm, as well. ;) just yankin your chain.
anyhoo......let the AM discussions begin!!!!
i was able to read much of the sign language, but can't read lips very well.
occasionally i can pull it off, but last night looked more like "nonsensical" lip moving.
However, I think that Jack might have been able to by the way he stared from the other room.
That's why he looked at Juliet the way he did when she said Ben told her he'd "let her go". I think Jack knows it's bull.
one of the things that bothers me about the site is this.
"working for a tomorrow, today"??
sounds like they screwed the pooch when that was created. shouldn't it say something about a "better" tomorrow?
and if it's mittelwerk, why use it at all?? why "associate" the two companies like that??
seems like an ill-advised attempt by someone. but again.......i'm probably just nit-picking.
by the way......the career opportunities page works now. in case you didn't already know.
Chucklez3, not much to add at this point, but wanted to break up your string of posts.
What did you mean that would explain the empty graves of anna lucia and "friends". ? How does that relate to old/young wombs?
As for the cloning thing. It was Lindeloff at ComicCon who said "you will never hear the word clone on LOST." That's why people are anti-clone. But aren't clones people too? LOL.
I seriously doubt that Jack has they eyes of a camera lens, and being able to see bens mouth from above when ben was facing down is kinda silly. Don't mistake camera angles for looking thru the eyes of a character. But with that being said, obviously tptb focused on his lips moving, and knowing how diligent us fans are, know that we would try and decifer it.
Also I was wondering what was on the screen in the screening room, that the camera sort of lagged on, right before Juliet saw Kate and sawyer in the jungle/forest? Is this of anything we know? it almost looked like a tunnel, but I can't make it out clearly enough.
memphish: i'm thinking that they can use wombs that are in "recession" and/or "dying".
When you die, your organs (if left inside) will remain somewhat preserved for a while.
"ORGAN HARVESTING" anyone??
Oooh! Organ havesting. Cool.
christine: he could see his face in the reflection from below.
and you can read lips from as far away as probably 50 or 75 feet. he was more like 15 or 20 away.
so, calling me "silly" without realizing the situation is a bit of a stretch.
So I'm checking out the Easter Egg page on DarkUFO here and noticed that the pictures of the people "in Portland" are so obviously pasted on it reminds me of the Season 3 cast photo with Ben and Juliet pasted in which you can see here.
this is not only for the show, but is commonly done when operating on someone who is face down. This way, they can speak to you and see you without having to move their body or head.
pffft.......what else you got?
Christine did you go to sleep at all? Isn't it very early where you are?
it also allows you to see if they're waking up, etc. just in case they don't speak right away.
Admin or Dennis, I need a ruling. Can we discuss the previews that aired after the episode or not. After 13 weeks I've forgotten. I'll hold off until I hear back.
i would think that after admin gave us the green light to discuss the episode last night before it aired on the west coast, that CERTAINLY discussing previews to next week is acceptable after the fact that EVERYONE in the U.S. has actually seen the show.
just watch this recap from last night to understand what i mean by Ben's reflection.
http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index
We went over what we can/can't discuss back in Nov. I just can't remember what we decided and am too lazy to look back.
came across a jeep ad at abc.com/lost and it was advertising the rubicon and said, "examine it". This is the page it lead me to:
http://www.jeep.com/en/wranglers/index.html?bid=2011758&pid=14108647&adid=51479794&rid=18549587
so, i'm gonna' hunt for stuff. anyone care to join me?
Happy Birthday Scoutpost!
found 3 of 5 bugs. not sure what happens if i find all 5.
MAVEN...your "fan club" is waiting;)
Also, so happy it is back, but I got zero sleep thinking about it all. Today's project...figure out why someone with cancer would want a baby, when they still need to, "Get well."
"I'm not sure what they plan on doing with it, but it certainly won't have any secrets or inside information."
Is it just me, or did he make too much of an effort to discredit it.
"it certainly won't have any secrets or inside information."
Sounds like "I didn't do it!" to me
Immortality Ange. If I'm going to die (and we all are) I want to leave progeny. We live on in the memories of those who love us, something like that.
Why she can't adopt? Don't know.
And as if you didn't have enough as an excuse to check it out already, remember the final hidden video on the hanso site. Sounds like a connector to me
chris: possibly. and i've said this before. DON'T TRUST THE PRODUCERS!!!
why would they tell us if we're right??? that would defeat the purpose of what's going on in the show or with the interactive stuff.
that's the point.
Hagbard Celine has many a time, tried to shoot my theories down based on "the producers said....". yeah, yeah. get over it.
the site may be real or may NOT. I don't know. until i know for sure, i'll just straddle the fence and toss out theories from both sides.
Nice straddle Chucklez
hahaha. yeah. like that?
I think I forgot to mention last night the 3 minutes thing. Jack gives Juliet and Ben 3 minutes like Michael got with Walt.
*sings*
"3.....that's the magic number...."
memphish said...Can we discuss the previews that aired after the episode or not.
Yes. It IS OK to talk about the US previews for next week. No other previews or other spoilers are allowed.
BTW, The spoiler rules are on the front page under ANNOUNCEMENTS & THE COST OF LIVING - SEASON 3, EPISODE 5
chucklez3 said... found 3 of 5 bugs. not sure what happens if i find all 5.
I found all 5. All you get is a 10% off coupon for the Jeep store. Ahh, the good old days of TLE - scouring through Jeeps sites :)
Now I'm thinking David didn't make the Mittleos site, but Chucklez3 did :)
hahahaha.
ME?? why would you think I made it??
Question for the people who know something about A Clockwork Orange. Could it be that Pickett was put through the same thing and that is why he is so intent on killing Sawyer? He was programmed to kill Sawyer though not until Ben got what he wanted. That's why Juilet had to take him out? Well, that and because I picked him in the Death Pool.
Eh. I don't know.
I just think Pickett didn't like Sawyer's attitude and they simply couldn't coexist in the same area.
however, he does (did) suffer from some serious rage issues, i think. plus, the comment about ben. you know, saying that ben would rather die than let them escape.
yeah, ummm......"whoa. calm down trigger. bring it back a little."
ummm.....did you not hear the video. "aunt jules". the kid in the video IS the baby.
the sister was pregnant 3 years before the show, so a little over 5 years ago (september of 2001 maybe).
so, i'd say that's a hella long gestation period if she's STILL pregnant!!
hahaha.
Despite what we saw last night, is Ben Alex's "Dad?" In "I Do," she says she wants to speak to Ben, not Dad. Could Him or Jacob be Dad?
eh. i think she just calls him by his first name. she doesn't claim him as her father.
and he may NOT be. not with all the fertility crap happening.
she (alex) may have been "spawned" from one of the "experiments".
Three Things:
1. Maybe Juliette's sister does not have cancer. Did she ever say that...anyone? Perhaps another disease that causes hairloss.
2. This fertility thing, I still think somehow all of the Losties are products of DHARMA, and were sent out to the real world, but have been called back (for lack of a better word) to the project.
3. Room 23, I like your thinking memphish on that, where Walt was taken. (Sorry, I finally got through all the 300+ comments:D).
Anyway, good to be back, and to actually want to comment. I think I may cry if there really is a TLE 2...I just don't know if I can do it again. Fun, YES, but WAY too much time involved...eep.
Good morning Locos. Great episode last night -- going to catch up on all of the comments.
Be back later.
so yeah....i'll check in off and on, as well.
Some pertinent sections of the Q&A with Damon, Carlton and Doc Jensen:
-...why these people, why do they all connect. No amount of mythological answers will ever speak to this. That's the one thing that when the show ends, you won't have a causal explanation for why did all these people interconnect. Why some, why not others? The answer is just that they just do.
-...there are a couple Easter eggs embedded in [the Feb. 7 episode], one of which is an anagram that actually sheds some light on the skeletons and hints at a larger mythological mystery that will start to unfold later in the season.
My $.02: remember that there was an explicitly mentioned estimation of the age of Adam and Eve's skeleton, based on decomposition. 40-50 years was the guess. I read this as stating that we're going to learn that these skeletons are much younger, or much much older than that.
-Does time pass differently on the island than off the island?
LINDELOF: That's a really perceptive question. We know that the Others taped the Red Sox win the World Series in 2004... so that would seem to indicate that time flows the same both on and off. But then again, when the sky turns purple and the ground shakes... wait. Hold on. Carlton is wringing my neck.
My $.02: All bets are off on the measured passage of time.
I just want to know the other "Easter eggs" in this episode.
Ange, as far as I can remember, we were not explicitly told what Rachel's illness was.
My main question about this episode: Why did Juliet order that Kate and Sawyer be hunted down and brought back, or even killed if necessary? I don't understand her motivation for saying this.
there was an anagram in the episode?
mittelos maybe? (lost time). yeah, we already knew that.
ugh.
you know....this would also support my "accelerated" cloning theory.
think about it.
Juliet's been there for three years, but she acts like it's been an eternity.
and the others are rumored to have been there all their lives.
what if they HAVE? but that time hasn't really been "that long".
this would also support the 105 year old orangutan, joop. been alive on the island for like 10 years, but in "normal time", it's been 105.
kinda' like everyone there lives in "dog years". each year on the island represents 7 in the real world (or something like that).
Sounds like "the thief of always" by clive barker.
each day represented a year. a boy was tricked into going to this "land" and tried to escape, but took him 30 days. when he got home, his parents (old and wrinkled) didn't recognize him.
eh. i'm just piggy-backing whatever thoughts are thrown out.
so far, a lot of theories are plausible and most mirror theories i've had over the past several months.
chucklez3 said...the comment about ben. you know, saying that ben would rather die than let them escape.
It seems more like when he said that, he really meant that HE would rather die than let them go.
memphish said... Despite what we saw last night, is Ben Alex's "Dad?" In "I Do," she says she wants to speak to Ben, not Dad. Could Him or Jacob be Dad?
I think Alex was stolen from Rousseau when she was too young to remember, so Ben is her dad as far as she knows. Be he's really her adopted dad.
Dog years, where's Lorne Green to do the math when you need him?
Anthony said... this site has to be real...all the executive bios are people from the show and they discribe what happened last night....... Either way if this is not part of TLE this person has some serious connections.
Whoever made the FAKE site, obviously saw the episode before it was aired. The episode had been "previewed" in public, and screeners were sent out to journalists. There were even rumors that one of those screeners made it on teh internets.
The thing that really makes me laugh is one the Bios mentions hiking and biking and river running.... just like Mr. Alpert mentioned in his pitch. It's too much.
memphish: hahaha.
but know what? how about we close some doors now?? hmm?
is that too much to ask??
four-toed statue, joop, smoke, etc. something for cripes sake!!!
Morning all! WOW, catching up on comments was awesome! You guys caught so much and the discussions are mind boggling!
Some thoughts:
1. Sawyer was in great sarcastic form, wasn't he? "Tell him I said hi" when Kate was on the walkie-talkie. "Nice to meet you, Sheena" to Alex. The Wookie reference.
2. We never did hear what was wrong with Rachel. She looks like she might have cancer (no hair), but she didn't look too sickly. Juliette was obviously giving her some experimental drug to make her pregnant, and was putting her reputation on the line for the sake of her sister. I find it hard to believe that she would leave her to go to the island even thinking it was only for six months.
3. I think Alex believes that Ben is really her Dad. She was taken from Danielle and raised by Ben.
4. Mention of time is very large in the episode. The anagram "Lost Time", how long Ben has to "live", Aldo reading "A Brief History of Time", and, of course, Juliette's time on the island (she must really want to get off the island if she's keeping such an accurate account of how long she's been there.
(Yes, Memphish...I took notes, too!)
you can actually access the north american career opportunities now, by the way. and again......pretty much a rehash of what we already know from last night.
Speaking of the pitch by Mr. Alpert, when you guys watched the episode, where did he start at? When i saw it on TV, the first thing he said was biking and hiking, but I downloaded the episode last night, and that scene started much earlier that what I saw. Was it just my local ABC that screwed it up, or was it cut off for everybody?
Lostnuts says "hi" by the way.
BTW, the "Lost Survior Guide" and "Not In Portland" are now in the ABC.com Full Episode Player
According to the site, there are supposed to be new "Lost and Found" today, but I'm guessing it will be tomorrow.
eh.....not gonna' get a dad-blame american experss just to line someone's pockets, just to see "extra" stuff taht will end up on youtube or somewhere accessible soon, anyway.
I just checked and the slide show is on the ABC.com version too. I can't believe my local ABC cut that off. Now I'm going to have watch to watch everything again to see if anything else got cut off :(
So Mittelos took over for Dharma to continue recruiting for work on the island? Dr. Alpert reminded me so much of Mittelwerk's evil genius persona!
I think someone asked this before, but what was with Juliet telling the guy to kill "Austen and Ford" if necessary. Where's your leverage over Jack then? But then again Juliet really wants Ben to die. Part of that plan still I guess.
Do we think they are going to put Juliet in Kate/Karl's old cage across from Jack? Do we think she could climb out of it?
How does Ben know how much time is left in the hour? We saw back when Colleen died there wasn't a clock in the OR because Jack reflexively looked for one to call time of death.
Morning everybody!
Got a lot of catching up to do, but how exciting! My computer is acting up on me this morning so lets hope nothing drastic happens.
Good Morning Loco's-
memphish, if I remember correctly, and this is in reply to what you hope doesn't happen between Jack and Juliet, before the 1st pod of season 3, I remember reading somewhere that Juliet would be a love interest of Jack. That's starting to look like a strong possiblity now after last night's episode.
Yes maven, time is definitely the theme of Not in Portland. I think that the title was definitely a play on words.
Reading an episode summary by the amazing Steve of 24 blog fame. You can find him here and saw that Juliet says "when your dad wakes up," so I guess Ben is dad, not someone else. I hate it when kids call their parents by their first name. I still insist my 7-year-old call me Mommy, not Mom.
I think there is NO daddy to Rachel's baby, which would be why the research would be so controversial.
Maybe Juliet discovered some way to induce asexual reproduction or Parthenogenesis!!
Those that played "The Lost Experience" will remember the term Parthenogenesis
jgz350, I've seen that love interest stuff too, but they said it pre-Season 2 about Ana LuLu and it didn't happen there. Whoever it was that suggested Stockholm Syndrome, I guess that would have to be in play, and now they can bond over both being held on the island against their will. Blah, blah, blah.
So will Kate ever do anything Jack tells her to? Jack:"Don't come back for me." Kate:"I'm going back for him. I owe him that." Why's that? Just cause she's free? Something more? Cause they just won't let the triangle die?
Oh, and why is it I have to verify my comments more than once most of the time? Anyone know?
Dennis,
Now that's interesting thought!
Memphish,
Yep, it's been double word verifications most of the time for me, also.
dunno.
same here.
why is it that we never see jack or sawyer shave, but that have like 1 to 2 day scruff in a 45 day period??
why hasn't any of the ladies had their cycle and totally gone off on some of the guys, yet?
if i melt dry ice, can i swim without getting wet?
in 45 days, i'd have a 3-inch beard!!
OMG, Dennis...Parthegenesis! More and more the ARG is coming into play here!
(Although I still believe that baby Alex was kidnapped from Danielle and raised by Ben as her "father")
chucklez3, Claire is nursing and Sun is pregnant and Rose I'm guessing is out of that phase of life. That just leaves Kate who's generally pouting anyway, so who can tell. All other girls are dead, aren't they? Maybe that's why Juliet shot Pickett. I've warned hubby not to have a loaded handgun around here for just such a reason.
As for that beard thing. There was one time in Season 1 they showed Jack shaving. It was the episode where Sawyer got glasses. And then Locke shaved while Jack was in the shower. Hubby is a blonde, so I never get that Jack look on him even when he goes all vacation week without shaving.
The tailsection has a screen shot of what Aldo was working on from "A Brief History of Time". HOW BLACK HOLES BEND TIME!
Memphish and BlueHeron13,
Are you logging in with your old Blogger account, or with a gmail account?
I don't need to log in at all anymore now that I'm logged in with gmail. No WV or anything.
Just past 400 comments...New Post!
The Tailsection's discussion of "Not in Portland" and all the time issues is definitely worth a look. I'm going to leave it to someone here to explain in English what I need to know about black holes, time bending, etc. Dog years, that I get. Black holes, not so much.
I log on with google account and I still have WV! And the first log in of the day takes forever! :(
black hole = bascially a real VOID. total physical vacuum. NOTHING can "exist" in a blackhole is the theory. not even LIGHT.
so, yeah. not buying THAT theory.
what i meant was "nothing can escape it".
not "exist".
sorry.
