FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS - SEASON 3, EPISODE 3 (POST 2)

As usual, the great discussions in our first post for this episode have built to the point that we needed to put up a "lag alleviation" post. This should hold the faithful commenters over through the weekend until Monday when we get a new podcast post!

Isibell, I kind of agree with you about Michael and Walt. Once they get through the portal or opening, then what?? That's some pretty big ocean out there, where are they going to go? Of course, where were they planning to go on the raft as well? Just drifting until someone found them I suppose. I guess we'll have to wait and see, unless TPTB give us a hint about it at some point.

Woohoo! Top 5!

Have a good weekend everybody!

PS: Don't foget to send in your comments to Passafist for the next podcast!!!!

Capcom - that's just it. I think they'll be back. I fully expect to suddenly see Vincent padding through the jungle and scaring the crap out of the losties. (an effective suspense builder shouldn't be given up so very easily) It's clear by what Ms. Klue (sp?) says when she's talking to Michael in the shack that they know he's psychic. They are so not going to give up someone like that so easy. Plus the boat they gave Michael isn't going to go very far, especially on the open ocean. If the Others don't have someone out there waiting for them, Michael and Walt are as good as dead. IMHO

Is that John 3:05 or is the Zero some other number on the Jesus Stick??

OT!!!!!!!!!

I know we aren’t supposed to promote other sights...and this has absolutely nothing to do with Lost....but it's way fun. Plus Halloween is my favorite holiday so.....

You don't have to sign up for anything...but if you are looking for a fun new screen name try

It's way funny!

As to the Geronimo Jackson reference, I think Jessie is extremely other-ish as everyone keeps saying. He has that Ben Linus demeanor about him. So who is Jessie's father, and what connection does he have to the hatch/ DI? I also like how MIke references the shirt, and that a screenshot of him is up but none of the other people in the commune. So those two characters are important in some way.

Sleepy :-)

Finally watched the episode. Maybe I was prepared by people's comments that it wasn't all that, but I enjoyed this episode. I haven't read all the comments so sorry if my observations are old hat.

Let's see...it did seem like the polar bear had munched on DI people before, even their children. Benry could very well be the child of DI scientists who moved to the island as a baby. I liked the truck in the lair. It was the last thing I was expecting.

TPTB are definitely attributing some sort of consciousness to the island. Wonder what it will turn out to be?

I think the Desmond character will be different than last season. Based on his conversation with Hurley and his behavior when returning to the camp, he doesn't seem all anxious and stressed out like he was. He's found contentment in whatever happened to him, at least for now. Wonder if he'll play an oracle role or be on the sidelines but not really involved with the group? I hope he gets lots of speaking lines because I love hearing his voice!

Twinkle said...

Oh yeah, and from the Blast door map last season there was a blocked off part of the Swan hatch or a tunnel extending from it. In the season 2 finale it seemed that part of the wall had caved in, opening the tunnel. I'm so excited because the crater from the hatch showed that only the circular main part imploded opening up the outer walls surrounding it. That means that the Losties may yet discover the tunnel, now opened! Wonder where it will lead?

JoAnn said...

whew... took me forever to get caught up on the comments!

maven said...

Hey, experimentalfilm! I agree it was a weird episode. Everyone seemed so strange.

JoAnn said...

ok... I wanted to read all the comments before posting this...
about the California Drivers License "prop" and the gun registration....
I got out my California DL and there are a couple things wrong on the "prop"
1. a real license expires on your birthday.. 05-11-02 is not the birthday on either the gun paperwork or the license.
2. Under the Seal of California (grey area in the middle) the person's signature is printed on the card.
3. Corners are bent and ragged. CA DL's are plastic now and are hard like a credit card. This is a bad fake
4. The only printing on the small right side picture should be eye color. 94131 is a zip code for San Francisco... Zip on the gun paper is 49099 which is South San Francisco which is a separate city.

Looks like TPTB better be more thorough when there are people pouring over the details like we do here.

maven said...

Hey, joann!

You're right about the birthdate discrepencies. I think I remember this was talked about in the other post. I've had CA DL all my life, but I can't remember when we went to plastic. We figure that this flashback was about 1996ish. I guess that prop people didn't check everything. You'd think they would know better by know with all the screencaps people post.

JoAnn said...

Hi Maven, I don't know exactly when we changed to plastic either, but my first plastic one was issued in 2002. They were out before then, but that was when my paper one expired.

Interesting theory, Congested. I just wonder how TPTB are going to explain any of the smoke monster/island speaking with people/Desmond's future glimpse in terms of "reasonably plausible scientifically."

Check out the Notes, Trivia, and Quotes at TV.com. There was supposed to be a scene where Nikki and Paola are caught in Jack's bed (according to old spoilers) and it was cut from the televised version. Was that why the episode was shorter than usual? Another thing they note is that the third episode of every season so far as been Locke-centric. Also based on the driver's license, Locke's birthday was two weeks ago, island time.

And the point out the Lord of the Rings allusion I missed where Charlie says, "Talk to the trees? I've heard they make good conversationalists." LOL!

minnesotawriter said...

That was an appreciable allusion.

Morning!

Thanks for that, christine#2! Very, very funny. Made my morning!

After reading the EW link on the front page, I was wondering why certain scenes were supposedly deleted. Earlier people said this episode was on about 36 minutes long with all the commercials! I guess ABC is so hardup for cash, they're deleting scenes for more ads. Hopefully, some of the cut scenes will appears in another episode.

Capcom said...

Maybe the fact that all of Locke's CA paperwork didn't quite match up, was a clue that he was being set up by the kid and the sheriff? If they were looking to use him to get the bigger fish, they wouldn't have cared about Locke's infractions. Those are pretty obvious discrepancies.

On the other hand, if Locke did expect to use that paperwork in the event of getting checked out, that's crazy and he would have been in trouble, for sure. And it would have been lazy prop work.

maven said...

Hi, capcom: I agree that the discrepencies are pretty obvious if you are a law enforcement person checking papers. (And I don't think the just used the actor's CADL because it still doesn't show his real birthdate.) I like your take on the differences. Those gun registration papers were most likely forged by the pot growers, but since Eddie needed an "in" with Locke, his buddies just "overlooked" the obvious and let them go. Although, one thing wouldn't add up in the scenario. If Locke knew the birthdates were so different, wouldn't he wonder why the officer didn't say anything about it?

I tend to go with a prop screwup. It would explain everything! LOL

Happy Saturday morning. It just took me ages to read the posts, but mostly because my husband is in the background cussing at a video game. Maybe if there was a LOST video game, I'd play too.

I'm excited for the new podcast. I got too busy this week to send in comments, so I'm hoping I will for the next episode. You guys do a great job on those things!

Also, in regards to all the DL discrepancies:
Sometimes, with movies and shows and such, you just have to look past the mistakes and believe the story. Sure they have lazy prop people. This is the only show I know where people go online and rip props to shreds because a date or something was overlooked. The Experience taught us how to do that, so it's their own fault.

But, this is LOST, so sometimes there may be clues in props. How the heck are we supposed to know a clue from laziness? How do we know if a book club selection is a clue or a shout-out to Stephen King?

I think I'm trying to say that it gets frustrating, because I like to get caught up in stories and overlook the small errors, but I don't feel like I'm allowed to do that. Darn producers.

maven said...

Hi, lifeobstacles: I agree with you. Many times over this summer's TLE there were "mistakes" made by TPTB (or those infamous interns!). Everything was dissected to the nth degree. Sometimes you just have to accept human error, and go with the flow.

You would think that the producers would be aware about how picky we LOST fans are...how screen caps are taken of every minute detail, and they would make sure everything is perfect. But human error/mistakes occur everywhere...let's just go with the flow. An average LOST fan just sees what they see on the TV screen and goes with the story. Us fanatics pour over every detail and read the "fine print", then debate everything ad infinitum! It's fun, though, isn't it?

Capcom said...

True Maven, I tend to think that it was just a mistake as well. But as you and Lifeobstacle have also said, it's TPTBs fault that we scrutinize everything after our education in espionage via our TLE summer!!! And especially after TPTB say things about the fact that there is something that we missed in the first ep that would explain some things....or whatever they said. And putting certain books on shelves! And Losties working on mysterious clues in crossword puzzles! And four-toed statues! Ack!

Capcom said...

BTW, anyone know where Dixxee has been? I think that the last we heard from her, she was going to not be online for a while because of work, but I don't think that we have heard from her since. Was she just a TLE-er or was she into the show as well? Hope everything is OK with her.

Just wanted to add my two cents on the Driver's License issue. I think the sheriff pulling Locke over shortly after picking up Eddie was clearly planned. This run-in helped build a bond between Eddie and Locke that Eddie continued to work on after getting to the pot farm. Further, Locke knows about the date problems on his papers and now thinks "that stupid policeman; he can't even catch that my birthdate is different." If they can't catch that, why on earth would they try to send in a spy? It's all part of the con with Locke as patsy once again.

ib4uc said...

memphish: I agree with you on the discrepencies with Locke's paperwork. Eddie and the sheriff couldn't care less what the paperwork said, they just wanted Locke's trust.

dr. spongebob: good to see you're still around.

capcom: I was wondering about dixxee also -- I don't think she's posted since TLE ended.

maven said...

Morning all!

Nice to see you around dr. spongebob! Capcom/ib4uc: A lot of people seem to be missing in action. I'm a little concerned that people are not as involved as they used to be here. And I'm worried that the long pause between "seasons" (after the 6 episodes are done) will end this blog. I sincerely hope I'm wrong. I still feel a strong "need" to check in every morning, even if I have nothing to say!

Anonymous said...

you are right Maven!! I have not been here in a while!!! I'm also concerned about The Lost Community and my blog Destination Lost. It seems some people might just forget about the blog and leave. Also on the THREE Month break we might not have the Lost Experience to fall back on.

I've been thinking alot about it...

Well hopefully everything will be good and we'll come back together.

ib4uc said...

maven: I check in every morning, afternoon, and evening also. This blog is the most friendly and most insightful site. I've checked others and I think only misguided and hateful people contribute to those. And, there is SO much off-topic stuff and bashing of other people, I stopped looking. This is my main site for Lost now.

This is a great site and there are other great sites too. I don't wanna list names...

'Morning/Afternoon TLCers! I hope that you're wrong about people dropping off, but I will still be here. I love whatever is discussed by whomever is on the blog after the show. This site's the best that I have seen, easiest to navigate and, as has been said, most others have waaaaaay to many mean and useless postings. But you know, even our Admins don't post here too often either now, do we need to take a bath??? :-D

BTW, when are we supposed to get those extended eps reruns, during the break?

BTW Hi Dr. Spongey!

Anonymous said...

hey capcom!

I've been thinking about the break and I know what i'm gonna do with my blog. I'm gonna do commentary podcasts on episodes of Lost. With a few other things along the way. maybe The Lost Community can do something through the break.

Hmmmmmmm.... TLC have Three weeks to think about it.

Well let's be positive!!!

Can't wait till the next episode!!

Good weekend everyone!

Shameless self-promotion here but....

I'm doing my INTERNET RADIO SHOW tonight @ 8 pm CENTRAL TIME.

It's called Grand National Championship and it's on FreeRadioSAIC.org. I play comedy and weird songs and talk some.

I've mentioned this all before of course, but it's something I like including all my internet communities in... there's a chat room and a (working) web cam so it's a nice chance to get together, etc.

And I ENORMOUSLY appreciate the support. :)

Alright. This shameful self-promotion is now done.

Hope this week's ep is better than "Further Instructions," btw.

Hello Maven, and fellow bloggers.

I feel the same way Maven about everyone and their disappearences. I have been at work for two days, and only a few comments were posted on this post. I have also noticed that people don't go to the chat room anymore as well. I think the TLE and it's disappointing conclusion has affected alot of people. I know there are still many Lost fans out there, but maybe they just need a break. I hope that eventually everyone will start coming around again, but from now on I will try and post everyday and say hello. Miss you guys!!!!

I love your podcast!
It is becoming one of my favorites.

You asked a bunch of questions about Locke's trip. I don't know the answer to most of them but I do have a theory about the Hurley question.

I think the reason he was behind the ticket desk is because he (in the end) he will end up spending a significant amount of his fortune on buying the survivors way off the island. I'm sure the numbers have to do with the amount he will end up spending. In essence he is giving everyone their tickets home.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

keep up the good work!

"Further Instructions" was my favorite S3 epi so far. I'm happy to see the return of the mystical aspects of LOST.
