After six seasons, this is it. There is no description for tonight's finale, but I don't think there needs to be.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, to all of you. You are an amazing group of people. This blog started in other, perhaps more capable hands, but I have been honored to take you through the last couple of seasons.
Thank you to David and Steve for your phenomenal podcast, and thank you to the crew over at LostArgs, especially Zort/Ian, for being such an incredible sister site.
Tonight, Lost comes to an end. However, I know that this will not be the end of this community, or of the friendships hatched from it. We have been a part of each others lives - some for a few months, and some for years. As with the Losties, we have seen births and deaths, life changes and simple pleasures. We have shared more than a television show - we have shared our lives.
The Lost Community will live on. I know it. In the meantime, Peace and Namaste.

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 400 of 689 Newer› Newest»It looked like David wasn't there the first time Claire turned around at teh table and the he was back again.
@SG, sorry! =) I was just trying to mark out what's a normal length episode.
Rain stopped? Hmm.
It ain't over till it's over Kate!
I totally thought Locke was going to wake up in the hospital as the MIB.
Locke looks very Kelvin-ish down there...
Jin remembers Sawyer... and Juliette will help Sawyer remember... oh wow... this is just beyond good.
I just find it very hard to believe that the landing gear isn't busted up in some way.
They need Sayid.
Duct tape! That';ll fix it!
Hurleys in it to win it... lol
LostIt... fixes a plane with duct tape is the closest thing to reality in this show so far.... sad but true.
Jin and Sun were so cute - you know it was taking all of Jin's willpower not to hug Sawyer.
So where is everybody going?
Oh, I am buying everything at Target now. And I work for Meijer!
And that is why I have never liked the Kate/Jack romance. Unlike Sun and Jin who love each other more than their daughter. Jack and Kate love their roles more than each other. Grrrrr. I think that kiss may have been hokier than the Matrix leap. No. The leap was hokier.
Yeah, SG, they need their MacGyver!
Soooo, was MIB able to stab/hurt Jack because the light was out?
@memphish, I didn't take that as a romantic scene at all. Jack and Kate are best friends. They've been through everything together.
Melissa- yep, you could just see him hugging him!
Des says that HE won't take Daniel (not with me) but Charlotte will take him.
Seriously, the bbq sauce commercial is a riot!
Yeah, where do they have to go now that they remember? I'm scared!
The Lamppost? The airport? The concert?
Tunisia?
i knew that Kate was going to jump!
The Lamppost? The airport? The concert?
Tunisia?
Oh man....sniff!
It worked.
YEA!!
Duct tape!
I'm now sitting in a puddle.
Sayid'sgirl, Jack is stubborn.
Of tears. I should make that clear despite the distinct lack of bathroom breaks.
You got it Blondie.
Feel the love tonight.
That jump reminded me of the water fall they jumped off of.
Goddamn.
THAT'S what she meant by "it worked"!
So who's left? Just Jack?
WOW! At last! Going dutch for coffee. I'm good. I'm good.
LOL, memphish...
about 1/3 thru that box of kleenex myself
I think we're just at Jack. And any other random surprise guests, I guess.
True Black Swan.
Could Sayid and des already be in the boat?
Wow... the Suliette flash was good... but not as good as I expected... the dialog was great though!
(Is it me or do the commercials seem really short, despite the added ones expected?)
Jack's left - Ana Lucia? What about Eko? And Rose & Bernard - although they might not need it.
Boy, I hope that there's enough here for the dudes, since most of this love stuff is for us ladies so far. We need some Faraday science and junk in the last hour. I'd like that too.
AL - re Jack and Kate - that's a good read. A long kiss for friends though. This is one of those things that will lead to years of debate, but I do wish that Jack could have found his soul mate in this journey or rather that it wasn't Locke.
Now, Desmond needs to get back to Penny and Little Charlie.
This is crazy guys! Oh man. I loved Sawyer and Juliette remembering!! I hope everyone is enjoying it! Im so glad Flocke is done!
Attn TeeFury I need a "I believe in a duct tape" shirt pls
I was wondering about Eko earlier...and yep, we need Ana, maybe Rose and Bernard...
Here are Jack and Kate!! (Happy Kate fan here)
Does Jack have to resist, because he has to stay? or is he just being a man of science?
Wow
I knew it .... yeah baby.
So again, Jack can die because the light went out???
Totally Amy!
Geez, take this, and drink.....
I don't think it's true love that makes them remember. It's strong soul connection. There are other emotional connections than romantic love. I'd feel cheated if that was the only thing that made them remember.
Right Twinkle (Hi!) soulfull connections only.
Yay! It's going to be Hurley!
What's with the drinking stuff??? I think its all "nothing"- just a hoax ritual that really means nothing
But the whole Des and Jack thing is pretty wild..
Yea, I'm sick and tired of TV making romantic love the deepest connection there is. Not true.
Here now Kate... tell her!! Tell her!!!
Reverse engines!
Claire made Kate remember... that's not romance...
So I'm glad Lost included other kinds of powerful relationships to wake them up. Speaking of which, I wonder what woke up Boone?
Come one Mr. Fixxitt!!!!!!! a;lskdhgalskdfasdkfasldfasdk!!
Twinkle- I'm wondering about Boone too.. hope we see it (and Juliette, via JiYeon made Sun and Jin remember)
Its like the dharma van!
Another drowning.
Jack's going to turn into Smokey right?
Nooo! Jack's just gonna go into the light!!!
Wow. I was so engrossed in that scene, I forgot Des was in the harness.
I would really like a Des/Penny scene. Please?
But, that does make sense to the story, Memphish. :-o
wow... this is crazy!!
This is the craziest thing I have ever watched and I love it!
I don't think we'll see Boone wake up. He was just there to show that they are all waking up.
Thank you to Target for making the commercial breaks better.
Memph - that's what I was thinking!
I don't think Jack will be smokey memphish.
What about Helen? Is he not even going to say good-bye to her?
A better way....a Hugo way. :'(
Awww
So Ben's the new Richard and Hurley's the new Jacob?
Were?
Ok, I managed not to cry until Hurley asked Ben to help him!
It sounded like Ben was going to stay for a while and then could "go" later?
What? Really?
Jack's in the same place the same position as MIB but alive?
Yeah,, not sure how this one happened... but will go with it... reverse tide or something.... one carried MIB in, this carried Jack out..
Are they all dead now and they're all "moving on"? Is that it?
I was waiting for that.
LOL, the captions keep saying, "Low magnetic zap" when they see the island.
Im confused now.
It was all to get Jack to let go?
No, really.... I don't know about this...
They all really did die when Oceanic 815 crashed? The plane with all the dead bodies at the bottom of the ocean was real?
are they all dead?
"There is no now here"
Love it!
they just didn't realize they were dead? didn't want to admit it? There is no dying alone.
It's the "after life is what you make it" philosophy.
WHeres Chucklez to rub it in... lol
Purgatory! Where's Chucklez?
So the flash sideways have been purgatory. Where's Chucklez?
LOL! Triple jinx!
oh man...im crying so much
Penny's dead, too?
Everybody dies. Fatality rate is 100%. Some died ealier. Some later. All eventually. This is after.
So what Locke seen that was beautiful was heavaen?
An incredible ep, and now, I'm not sure...about the end... are they all dead, or just jack?
But.... Vincent got me...
I'm glad I was wrong. There was progress.
Wow! That was poetic!
No baby answer. I'm going to chalk it up to one of the rules Jacob implemented after Dharma.
I've been bawling the last 5 minutes, but also loving for Chucklez that we got Purgatory after all.
Hmmm.... so, I think the island was real, right? And then the sideways was "heaven"?
LOVED the episode. Really, truly loved.
Regarding the last ten minutes: liked it when it was called 'The Sixth Sense' and also the last ten minutes of Titanic. I liked it here, too, but that's what it was.
memphish - how do you feel now about the DT comparison?
Maybe not purgatory... maybe it was all real- and only Jack died? (I kept waiting to see him change from blue shirt to suit) Everyone else had FS's? Still confused... though, yes, it was poetic to have come full circle.
I loved it until the last 10 minutes.
I'm still crying!
Did you notice how Hurley said that Ben was a great #2 and Ben said Hurley was a great #1? There was more story for all of them after Jack died. For Frank, Miles, Sawyer, Kate, Claire, and Desmond too. I bet Hurley got him off the island and back to Penny.
Darlton just decided to end the story with Jack's death, except for the sideways purgatory which showed them all meeting up and moving on.
Kind of reminded me of C.S. Lewis' the Great Divorce where the dead go on a bus ride until they get to heaven (minus the part about heaven being more real than the "real" world - or maybe they did hint at that?).
Whatever - the ending was great for showing that this life is just prelude. At some point all the pain and struggle might seem short and relatively insignificant.
Um, wow. I'm going to be thinking about this for a while.
Goodnight, all! I have to get up at 5 in the morning. You all are terrific. Thanks for sharing this with me.
ML -- not DT and I'm glad.
I think it's hilarious that after years of theorizing the Island was Purgatory that they creators gave us Sideways Purgatory. It also explains why the characters acted so dumb in Sideways Purgatory like Claire getting in the cab with Kate. It was a world they created with keys and clues that they were safe in it despite what it otherwise seemed.
I loved it regardless
I liked the #2 and #1 thing. It reminded me of The Prisoner.
Oh and great for showing that the only things you can "take with you" are the relationships.
Everything makes sense now.. There is no Now where they are.
memphish - yeah, but still some similarities.
Okay, I would love to stay up and chat, but I think I need to head to bed. Talk to you all tomorrow, I'm sure!
Wow! I have puffy eyes. :-(
Well, I don't know about the purgatory thing, that theory was that the island itself was Purgatory. Unless I'm reading it wrong, I didn't see that. If so, what did Jacob, MIB, and Mommy Notty Hair have to do with Purgatory? And all that "they come, they corrupt...." crud?
It still seems like both realities were separate, but eventually, everyone died I guess and met up in the afterlife?
And what of the "very important" babies? I know, I read the interview about Aaron, but.....
Hmmm. Have to ponder this.
Memphish: Me too! So ironic that the flash sideways was a type of purgatory! No wonder they didn't want us calling it another dimension like in a multiverse.
#2 and #1 reminded me of botgh the prisoner (who's #6?) and Star Trek:TNG.
I dunno about the purgatory thing...it was so incredibly well done I hate to say its unoriginal... I will need a long time to process!!!
(Some things don't fit? Ex. When did Pen die?)
(If the Island wasn't real, when did Juliette die?)
Argh... incredible episode, I accept the ending... its just vague enough... yet, just clear enough...
Overall I'm satisfied. I wasn't bored. I cried a ton. There weren't characters that changed their minds repeatedly during the episode or otherwise acted out of character. I'm especially glad that they did a great job of redeeming Kate. It was a little on the sappy side, but I'm okay with that. And I'm okay that it was Purgatory. I always thought that was a good construct.
LOL Memphish, about #1 and #2. :-)
What interview about Aaron? What was said about him?
Oops, and Lostit.
Twinkle- I like you comment about the only things you can take with you, the only things that are important are relationships.... that's a poetic way to describe the character development...
Goodnight all.... Kimmel will have to wait till tomorrow for me... hopefully will see you all this week for thoughts and comments!
I want to watch that again, but I don't know if I can. I'm spent!
@LostIt, Darlton said that Aaron was very important to the finale. And in a way, I think he was. His birth was what spurred Charlie, Claire and Kate to remember.
Lostit, it was something about how the Aaron importance was completed in the Kate and Claire relationship (I think those were the two characters), and there was nothing more that was needed to be said about him. I don't really like it, but that's basically what Damelton said.
The way I read it the Island was the only real timeline. The sideways world is purgatory. When each of them died, be it in 2004 like Shannon, 2007 like Jack or 2070 like say Hurley they went from death to 2004 where a flight 815 from Sydney lands in LA and culminates in a concert. They reconnect with those who had been important to their real lives and meet at the church to move on to the next realm, whatever that next realm might be. The church was full of every kind of religious symbolism you could imagine to cover all those bases. And there were others who did not choose to move on at this point like Ben, Eloise, Daniel, Charlotte. They are staying in 2004 Purgatory to work through some more issues even if, like Ben, they understand that they are in fact dead.
Or, what Amy said. Claire and Kate, or Claire and Charlie, something like that.
@memphish, your explanation sounds right.
Ok.. the pure purgatory-ness of this (I obviously lied about going to sleep)... is thrown off by Alex and Danielle and Ben staying. I think some elements of the FS were real.... not purgatory...bc Ben got off the island and didn't go with them.
Pen was never on the island...
Miles and Lapidus weren't among those moving on...nor were Charlotte or Faraday... ???
Oh, I give up! Just putting it out there, that untill they tell me on Kimmel that its purgatory for sure, i think the possibility of this being a real adventure was possible...whatever it was, it was a wonderful 2 hours....
That's what I got from it too, Memphish.
Capcom... I think it was the FS that was more of a purgatory.... the island stuff actually happened
The one thing I don't get though about Purgatory is David Shephard. Why would a Jack who died in 2007 that never had a son have one in his self created Purgatory, especially one whose mother was Juliet?
There was some possibility that Kate was pregnant by Jack due to the I just dropped off Aaron don't ask me about it sex and could have a child in 2007/08 when she gets back to the real world. I can't quite work all that out. If anyone hears or reads any good ideas about this let me know.
Memphish...so you are thinking that Eloise is also dead? and the whole thing from LAX to concert time was like a purgatory? (We never even saw Widmore in this ep...guess he really was dead!). And what about David? Figment of imagination?
I can get with your theory as you put it..and find it satisfactory, but still confusing.
Most of the working out issues, however, occurred on the island-- until the very end???
Me too Ded.
I think we're just using Purgatory as a label, not referring to the actual idea from Catholicism. The flash sideways was a gathering place for them. They probably didn't have to all come together to move on, but the relationship ties were so strong (see Christian's comments) that that's how it worked for them.
Ben's relationship ties are with Alex. Ben and Alex aren't ready to move on. Neither are Daniel and Charlotte. They can stay until they're ready.
And soooo, TPTB fibbed about no-Purgatory the same way they fibbed about the no-SciFi? X-D
Stoopid me for believing them. :-B
I think they have a choice of moving on or not. Some choose to stay to work out more issues like Ben. Some just aren't ready yet, like Ana Lucia. They're souls were just so connected with each other, they chose to move on together - in community.
I don't think I can do Kimmel tonight. I'm just not able to handle funny right now.
Ded, thanks... I'm with you... I think the Island stuff really happened.
If you think of the Flash Sideways as a dream world that happens after you die does it make sense? Weird stuff like extra kids and Daniel becoming a pianist instead of a scientist happens in dreams, right?
So in Jack's dream world maybe his guilt over Juliet makes her his ex and his unresolved relationship with his own father gives him a son where he has to grapple with being a father...
I like that Twinkle.
I wonder when Hurley died? 1-1000 years after he took over the island?
I loved the finale. The last ten minutes;not so much.Death comes to everyone, but please not everyone on my favorite show.
I still give it an A+.
So, like, if Hurley died a thousand years after becoming the island protector, was Jack in that purgatory world for a thousand years? And why was HE the deciding factor in everyone deciding to "move on"?
That's a really good point about David, Memphish.
We could use another theater broadcast Q&A about now.
LOL, cuz Jack awas always the appointed leader from the get-go, Amy?? Just guessing, I'm open to anything at this point.
Beautiful...
So there was no alternate universe after all. This was so much better.
It's been a great six years, starting when our dear doctor Shepard first opened his eyes, and even though I almost never posted here, I was still reading and listening to all of your great insights. :) Maybe I'll see some of you chatting it up over another great show, or just continuing the discussion of this one. As for me, I'll be watching fringetelevision.com.
Goodnight everyone!
Twinkle, yes, that's how I see it too.
OMG, this wet stuff is still puring out of myu eyes like a faucet! Every time I think it's passed, it starts up again.
Good night to all those leaving. I took tomorrow off,so I can stay up late.
I'm definitely using purgatory as a label in the generic sense not the theological Catholic sense which I know very little if anything about. I hope I don't offend anyone. Please forgive me if I do.
I like that idea about dreaming up the kid to solve his father issues Twinkle. It's just like Jack to think he couldn't actually resolve the issues with his father even in an ideal dreamland, but that he has to backdoor a resolution of sorts.
There is a very fine line between the definitions of Limbo and Purgatory (although Limbo is usually used for innocents like babies, etc.), so I guess TPTB could split theological hairs there.
Well I'm going to try to watch Kimmel now. I hope there won't be too many commercials, or if there are, they are the ones for Target. Those were great.
I still think David was some manifestation of the Man in Black.
Welcome Will! And G'nite to you and TAV. :-)
Purgatory, Limbo, whatever you call it, it is a just a word. Not using it to mean anything specific.
The more I think about this ending the more I love it! I want to cynical and skeptical about it but I can't!
Christian said, "There is no "now" here." Maybe think of it like dying sets you outside time where everyone who dies shows up at once? (Well except Aaron who was just born, but I'll give them the artistic license.) Just saying all those time questions about who died when or didn't die in the show are irrelevant to Sideways Dreamland.
You know Amy, David always reminded me of those Hitler clones in that book/movie "The Boys From Brazil" so you might be on to something there.
I'm really sad, though, that Sayid's soul connection was Shannon and not Nadia. I really thought Nadia was a stronger connectin for him. But she wasn't on the island, so I guess that ruled her out? but then again, neither was Penny.
But I bet that TPTB will say that David was just a catalyst for getting them to the concert, like Aaron and Ji Yeon were catalysts for.........
And I guess the "no 'now' here" statement explains the time wackiness in the FS that I was complaining about earlier (how the concert was supposed to be the night after 815 landed but it's been at least a week.)
I was just trying to find a vernacular "escape route" for TPTB with the Purgatory/Limbo fib, Ded. :-)
But Penny was Widmore's daughter so maybe she had island DNA? :-D Doesn't matter. I think TPTB were suggesting Sideways Dreamland is where *everyone* shows up not just our Losties, and people can move on with whom they wish when they wish.
It's not my view of the after life but it has some beautiful aspects to it. I can't get over how they chose to communicate how much more important love and relationships are than the suffering and striving here. I can even wish that dead Jacob met dead MIB in their own Dreamland Purgatory after life and moved on together, forgiven.
Are we now confirmed that Jughead did nothing?
My local station all of a sudden isn't showing Jimmy Kimmel. They are showing 2 1/2 Men. I'm may hurt someone.
It looks like Matthew Fox was crying.
Right Twinkle, I said on another blog that I was afraid that Jacob and MIB would be waving to the Losties like Vader and ObiWan waved to Luke in (the real) Star Wars III.
LOL! Capcom!
I'm not watching Kimmel. Please post if any insights are given. Still enough was answered for me.
As for Jughead, good question. Jughead killed Juliet. There's something to be said for the futility of our actions here though.
Wonder who Hurley got to take his place as protector of the island? There's so much more story they won't be telling us!
LOL Amy!
I've been lurking this evening, too much for me to comment when I can't stop crying...I'll be back tomorrow hopefully to some good discussions! You guys are "my constant"!...:)
xxoo
Ok.... so, the scene with Locke letting go of the wheelchair (letting go of the guilt over hurting his father) and walking... and forgiving Ben (and Ben saying that "it helped") makes the "working things out before you move on" thing make sense... and does go back to characters and relationships...so, as I process (should be sleeping...) here's another one I now find very beautiful...
Sun and Jin could not have a baby, grieved that they couldn't... and ultimately chose to love each other through the disappoinment (Ji Yeon could be something they "created", "their dream")
Perhaps, instead of something like purgatory... (just can't embrace that one fully)... its as much realizing that what you think you want so much (ex. Sayid wanting Nadia) is really not your destiny... something else, often better, despite it's flaws (Shannon)...really is.
(Maybe also Kate giving Aaron back to Claire has something to do with why Jack doesn't have a son)
Hi Ellen!!!!! Happy sobbing! Misery loves company. :o)
Watching Kimmel. Poor Matthew Fox is a mess.
Good point about what you want not necessarily being your destiny, TOL. Been there, done that for sure, haha.
Yeah, probably not a lot of acting went into that huggy scene at the church. :-)
Cap, me too, me too.
I think I like that version better than just pure purgatory... learning to let go of guilt, let go of dreams that weren't meant to be, stop trying to make things work out.... and learn to love and accept what you have. The battle within you... much like my thoughts on smokey (being the selfish part of you that summons you, rather than you summoning it)... the two sides of a personality wrestling with each other... Moving on, yes, in death... but also in life...
Sticking there for now...
My biggest Q is.....what the heck was the plug?!
Metaphorically speaking, that is.
I think that's the "stopper" that Jacob was talking about with the wine decanter.
Yes but....what was it physically, in a symbolic way, to the energy? I know the cork kept MIB in, but how? I guess that I want the Faraday explanation, and I ain't gettin' that, haha.
I'm also having some trouble connecting the whisper people (e.g., some say Boone's voice was in there) with the chapel peeps.
I don't think it kept MIB in. I think MIB was a creation of whatever was down there that was kept in.
Maybe the whispers were spirits who were trapped before they could go to the Sideways Dreamland?
The island is a contact point for some deeper reality or beyond reality. Not sure how Jacob's speech about evil fits in though.
Hmmm, interesting.
And when Knotty Mommy Hair said that a little Light was in everyone, did she mean a little eternity? Or.....what ever the light is that you see in a near death experience and then see it fully when you die? I'm just sayin'.
:-B
So totally exploring some thoughts... please bear with me.
Let's say that the "light" on the island was like the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden. There were two trees in the story: the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and the Tree of Life. Humans ate of the Good and Evil tree and were banned from the garden so they couldn't eat the Tree of Life. If Humans had eaten of the Tree of Life then they could live forever spreading their evil. The Life had to be contained and kept separate from the humans.
Sounds like the "light" to me. The evil could be letting all humans have the ability to live forever, abusing and hurting each other instead of moving on.
So the island kept the "life" corked, except for some small leaks (Locke healed, Jin healed, Rose healed, Alpert didn't die...)
If the island had sunk, everyone everywhere would have been able to live forever. I've watched enough science fiction to know that doesn't usually end well. ;-)
If everyone has a little light, then everyone has a little life? Seems to fit.
Interesting! :-)
And although they didn't talk about Ellie's role and how she got it, she totally played the part of an angel, both in Desmond's flashes and in Sideways Dreamland.
I gotta to go bed! I hope I can turn my brain off!
Interesting tidbits from Kimmel: none of the actors have seen the finale, and Naveen has never seen any episode other than the pilot.
Four hundred! Good night all! Here's to pondering eternity!
Watching JKLive. Some funny moments, lots of cast on.
Getting really tired.Going to bed soon. It's been a fantastic journey.
Good night Loco's.
Goodnight all. Hope the West Coasters are enjoying, and that our Euro friends enjoy as well!
I like that, Twinkle
Good-night, TAV. It IS all about the Journey, isn't it?
