The Lost Community Announcements

Since all we get tonight is an encore of Ab Aeterno, I thought I'd take this opportunity to post a few odds and ends that have been making their way into my inbox.

Sr. Locke shared the following:
Following the example of The Lord of the Rings fans, who succeeded in getting the names of many fans around the world on the DVD credits as an extra, we hope to repeat that hit with Lost (with the release of the DVD/BluRay edition of the 6th season). In other words, we ask for the inclusion of the fan’s names that have dwelt in the Internet communities for the last amazing six years and who have been part of the Lost phenomenon. It’s clear that Lost wouldn’t have been the same without the community.
There’s a group in Facebook and a Twitter account to support and follow this initiative. And a website too.

A Lost fan named Andrew was able to get a glimpse of shooting a couple of weeks ago and shared this video.
DISCLAIMER: I haven't watched the clip, so I can't say how spoilery it is.

I received this e-mail
from an intern named Evan from Brown and Dutch Public Relations:
We are helping host a Lost Season Finale party in Los Angeles which will include giving away a remade VW Dharma van from Lost to one lucky fan. We are looking at Blogs and podcasts to help spread the word about our event and I was hoping to get your contact information so we can then update you with more information the closer the party arrives. I would appreciate a response whenever time allows. Thank you and have a great day.

I responded to his e-mail, so hopefully we'll hear more soon. In the meantime, Namaste!

The stupid pop-ups said that the Black Rock set sail in 1845 when in the very same episode, it was said to be 1867.

Beverly said...

If the popups are to be believed, Isabella was indeed MIB when she appeared to Richard on the Black Rock. I don't know how he did it without her body, though. I thought he needed the body.

TakesaVillage said...

I don't believe it. Isabela was with Richard when the Smoke Monster was outside. Is it an interns interpretation? Darlton will tell us in the end,I hope.

maven said...

Thanks for posting interesting/stupid pop-ups!

TheOtherLisa said...

The one thing I think I see more clearly now is that there really is no rule about "if you let him talk to you"... MIB talked to Richard first, he still sided with Jacob (Unless that changes in the end and he really does end up on MIB's side)

Beverly said...

TOL, I think you're right. Because Ben stabbed Jacob after JAcob talked to him. There was no rule stated at the time, but I would imagine if there was a rule, it would have been in effect for Ben as well.

Yes, thanks, Lostit, for posting the pop-ups.. I'm watching glee.. LOL!

That's really weird about the dates being so different. If they didn't screw that up, the only thing we can think is that just passing thru the 'barrier' around the Island can be a huge time-shift. :P

Interesting about Isabella on the Black Rock. Do you happen to know exactly what it said about that?

Now I wish I had watched Ab Aeterno instead of Glee.. LOL!

:) Hi TAV.. good catch!

Just Thinking said...

In the last comments I said that the way Jacob asked Richard if he had met MIB as soon as Richard started talking about his dead wife indicated that Jacob thought Isabella was MIB. MIB had her cross- I thought some kind of DNA or aura on it might allow him to assume her form- but who knows.

Black Swan said...

JT, I didn't see the enhanced version tonight, but after reviewing my notes, the way it went down was like Richard was hallucinating about Isabella being there IMO.

I should go catch up on the earlier comments.

My money is on Maven winning that Dharma Van.

Good night Loco's.
It looks like the comments are few in number tonight, but as always, one of the best parts of Lost Night.

maybe the black rock made it's maiden voyage at the earlier date. they said they changed the date because dynamite wasn't invented at the earlier date.

thanks for the posterity shout out TOL about luke chapter 4

no matter what the popups said, i gotta think mib needs the body on the island. If not mib could have been ben's mom as well. I think richard asking ben if his mother was dead and if she died on the island related to that.

Just Thinking said...

Still trying to find out what set of "rules" Lost follows. Is it science fiction following the rules we know about science- or is it fantasy with magic spells and ashes and ghosts? What are its own story rules? Does MIB have to have that dead body-after all, he thanked Jack for bringing back John's body for him. Or not- after all, Jacob seemed to think MIB was Isabella, and Jacob knew Isabella's body was not on the island.

I want some rules, darnit!

BTW-I just listened to an older OLP-back around The Package-which was OK spoiler-wise at this point, and they answered a fan question about an anomaly in the story. Their answer basically said that it doesn't mean anything. I think we will have a lot of not quite fitting puzzle pieces in the end.

Just Thinking said...

Oh- and remember when Richard wants Hurley to ask Jacob "What is the island?"-to prove that Hurley can see Jacob? Could it be that Richard only knows it is the "cork" that holds in the evil- as we saw Jacob tell him? There probably is more to the island than Richard understands.

Capcom said...

Crud, that'a a good point JT about what RA thinks the island is. I was hoping that he knew more, but if he did know more I'd still be mad that he didn't tell "us" when he had the chance to in that ep. :-B

I didn't watch Ab Aeterno last night, but I happened to catch the preview for next week's episode. Looks (and sounds) pretty crazy!

think Richard's ignorance about the true non metaphorical explanation of the island is due to jacob wanting or needing(because of the rules) to keep major players in the dark, so they can make true free will choices. The more Richard knows about the nuts and bolts of the island the less free his choices are. Almost like if God made himself definitively known scientifically, there would be no need for faith.

I think it's interesting that Richard said that Jacob NEVER tells anyone what to do. Did he exclude himself from the word everyone, because it seemed like Ben and Dogen were following specific directions from Jacob. Jacob certainly told Hurley exactly what to do. Is Jacob free of the rules as a ghost, i doubt it or he would have told jack what to do after the lighthouse. So whose idea was it to build a runway on hydra island, if not Jacob? Was Richard really the one who crafted other's agenda and policy from vague list and directions from Jacob?

Just Thinking said...

I'm assuming that that is the prize for the Jay & Jack Lostcontest video winner. As AL says- waiting for finalists to be announced- but if you didn't enter a video you wouldn't be in the contest.

Seems unlikely that there are 2 finale parties giving away a refitted van.

Amy Lynn said...

@JT, LOL, yes, you have to basically be a film maker to even be considered for the Dharma van.

maven said...

How many of you caught Happy Town last night? This is something that really grabbed me and I hope it keeps it up! It's very Twin Peak-ish, and has some potential to be a substitute for Lost! Nothing can replace my experience with Lost....I once in a lifetime experience! But I'm hopeful for this new series. And having M.C.Gainey in the case is a plus!

Capcom said...

I watched Happy Town, and liked it so far. It's not getting good reviews though so it may not last long. Who knows. I personally don't care if it's similar to other stories (the biggest review complaint), I miss those shows and am grateful to have some freaky-weirdo TV to watch -- the more the better as long as it's done intelligently and is thought provoking. It sure does have a lot of my favorite actors in it.

Amy Lynn said...

We skipped Happy Town. Was it much better than the horrendous commercials for it?

Capcom said...

I thought it was intruiging. Sam Neill is awesome, as usual. M.C. Gainey was amazing too. The girl from Angel and Dollhouse is in it, she's good. The big Hurley type guy from Men In Trees(?) and an X-Files ep is in it, he's cute and funny.

What bugs me about the reviewers saying that it's just 'Twin Peaks Jr.' is that they never seem to complain when the umpteenth doctor-sex, lawyer-sex, cop-sex series starts up, but God forbid someone dares to create an interesting freakshow for us scifi/mystery/creepy fans out there in TV-land, then it's just a copy of what's gone before. :-p

It could all go sour in the next few episodes, who knows, but I thought that the premier made me interested in seeing more. Or maybe I'm just in love with Sam Neill. :o)

Amy Lynn said...

Thanks, Capcom... how would you rate it in comparison to FlashForward and V, if you watch those?

Capcom said...

I would say that the characters seem more accessable and fleshed out already on Happy Town than on those other shows. Up until recently most of the characters in FF and V just left me cold and felt one-dimensional. Story-wise, it's hard to say right out of the the gate like this, but the premier left a lot of leeway for many ways to branch off of the main story if they do it right. It is a lot like Twin Peaks, and Northern Exposure, but that's OK by me. As long as there's no fathers molesting their daughters like in Twin Peaks, I could stick with it for a while to see what happens.

Capcom said...

Maven posted this webiste for happy town fans today on FB: http://happytowngazette.com/

maven said...

I agree with you Capcom that I'm already invested in these characters after one episode. The mysteries are enough to keep me interested. I hope it continues! Thanks for posting that link. It seems like a good place to discuss the episodes and get updates, etc. It's set up by a fan. It was posted in the ABC forums (which I find kind of clunky). I'm not endorsing it yet since it's still under construction.

Just Thinking said...

Happy Town could be good- looking for a character to root for in it though.

That Facebook finale reaction page could be fun 2c- I'm not on FB- but I hope to get the same result at the Jay & Jack party by looking around!

Amy Lynn said...

Still no word on the Jay & Jack contest? Does anyone know if it was actually for real?

Just Thinking said...

Was thinking about the Losties in terms of their issues again.

Des is pointing out to Sayid that he is being a killer to solve a problem again, by killing Des in order to see Nadia. And by not killing Des, Sayid is working on that issue.

Jack says he's "got this" when he goes in to do John's surgery-meaning he is sure he can "fix it". But in jumping off the boat, he is trusting someone else's "fixing". He says to Sawyer that something was missing when he left the island before - perhaps David? I keep feeling that he is going to have to trust his fate in the surgery and seem to lose David in order to keep him.

Just Thinking said...

AL- on twitter they say they are looking at the videos- and I think the contest site says the finalists are coming soon.

Amy Lynn said...

@JT, thanks, yeah, it's said that for about two weeks.

So on a sci-fi scale of . . .

Eureka. . . . ..to . . . ..Fringe

Where does Happy Town fall?

Fringe is too much for me half the time - I'm a bit of a chicken.

maven said...

@Lost2010: I would put Happy Town in the middle of that scale. There was one sort of gruesome scene in the beginning, but not too graphic. The show seems a little spooky and mostly quirky. :)

I know what you mean about Fringe...sometimes I have to peak through my fingers!

Capcom said...

On the sliding SciFi scale, I'd put H-Town about at the 3/4 mark toward the Fringe side. They had a guy get a spike intentionally hammered through his head, after all. Didn't show it actually happening, but enough for the imagination to fill in the grisly blanks. I'd guess that won't be an isolated incident, but I could be wrong. But it's definitely not as bloody and gooey as Fringe...yet.

lost2010 said...

Thanks guys. They made it look kind of terrifying in the promos. . .that's why I haven't given it a shot. I may still hold off a bit. . .just in case the gore level builds slowly. ;)

If I could miss work, I had considered my relatively local (@3 hr. drive) LOST pre-finale celebration... but I'm not sure I could pull off a late night drive and an early start!

Your boarding passes are really cool the way they are presented! Hopefully you get to keep them!

Hiatus week = no fun. 3.5 days and counting.

Capcom said...

Lost2010 I get the feeling that the gore will creep in slowly, if it does at all. I'd guess that it will just be murdery like a S.King story, and not gory like Fringe. But the spike in the head did make me wonder if I should keep watching just because I don't like it when TV gives real psychos visual ideas (like any number of cop shows on now!)...and I'm glad I kept watching so far, albeit only one episode into the series.

i rewatched ab aeterno enhanced a few thoughts.

1. I don't take too much stock in the thing about mib being Isabelle on the black rock. It seems to me both mib and Jacob want Richard to believe in hell. When Richard asked Jacob if he could absolve him and make sure he didn't go to hell. Jacob could have said there is no hell, but he confirmed the island was the cork holding in hell. This is important because in 2007 Isabelle's ghost says that if Richard allows the man in black to leave the island "they all go to hell". Unless Isabelle is in cahoots with jacob, how could she know his name is the man in black. I think jacob is the only one who calls him that.

2. Richard joining jacob is what was marked as the beginning of the others. Jacob and man in black have been having this bet for a long time. When mib tells jacob he is going to see him sooner than he thinks he means in 140 years in 2007 in the foot. The others era is short compared to the overall jacob/mib timeline. In jughead Juliette tells locke that Richard has always been there, but we know that that was not true, but in julliettes view 140 years was forever or always.

3. Another jughead/ab aeterno tie in the the buried secrets. They bury jughead , just as Richard buried the cross. That's what reminded me of the planet of the apes where they worship the underground atomic bomb.

4. I think Mib knew richard would fail in killing jacob. He wanted Jacob to think that "stab him before he speaks a word" would work, so subsequently 140 years later, Dogen via jacob would feel confident enough to send Sayid to face MIB in sundown using that technique gleened from richard intel 140 years earlier.

5. I also think mib can be deceitful about some stuff, but he can't directly lie about being the smoke and has to stick to a deal.

6. I think Mib was grooming Richard to join him 140 years later the whole time, because Richard becoming Jacob's right hand man, and subsequently being tricked by Flocke through timeflashes to anoint john locke as the leader of the others. Is a pivotal part to MIB's loophole Ben kill Jacob plan. I thought it was interesting in jughead that when sawyer asked locke who shot him in a time flash. Julliette cut them off before he could say Ethan. Had Sawyer known later on that Ethan shot locke in a time flash he might have changed things. i think Julliette was injected into the 815'ers timeflash adventure to guide them for jacob. SHe spoke lating with the others and led richard in 1955. Just as peter had to betray jesus, but still became the rock of the church. I think that jacob knew that richard had to get duped by mib into the locke plan. Jacob touched Hugo so late in the game because, that was jacob's countermove to mib's plan to flip Richard in 2007. Hurley narrowly caught Richard before Flocke showed up. Isabella being a real ghost explains how hurley could know Ricardus buried it there since Noone could know.

7 i also have to think that jacob's touch played a part in isabelle's death like nadia. The only way mib could promise richard his lady back is to rest the timeline to way back before 1800's, which seems to not be the sideways since the sideways seems like the regular timeline with a break at 1977 not earlier. It seems like smokey can kill straight out bad people right away and the more ambiguous ones from a scan are the subject of the bet between Jacob and mib. Jacob must have brought the black rock to the island just for Richard. He probably handpicked Richard from the canary island because he knew his eternal mediator on the island would need to feel at home there.

I did notice that the smoke never appeared when Isabella was in the black rock, only the sound effect. When she ran out the shadows on the waving trees were only visible not smokey himself. So it's possible that was smokey and we have seen smokey break into separate plumes of smoke before and be different sizes so it's definitely possible it was smokey.

2C I'm under 'Jannah Lynn' on FB. Let me know who you are if you friend me and you don't use the same name, I kind of avoid befriending strangers so far. :-)

Actually 2C I think that there was a wisp of smoke above the stairs when Isabella was in the ship with RA. I'm pretty sure that I saw it all the times I watched it, because I kept wondering how Smokey could be in two places at once like that. Especially since TPTB *implied* sort of that Locke couldn't or wouldn't be in the woods as Locke and appear as Smokey to Ben in DIville at the same time. Not sure if that's true, just guessing. I'm probably wrong as usual.

lost2010 said...

Amy Lynn
Truly what is the difference in reading several small posts in a row than reading one long post. You're still reading the same amount.

2costa I you don't need me to stand up for you. You're perfectly capable of doing that yourself. It's just Amy Lynn constantly complaining about you annoys me as much as your posts apparently annoys her.

Amy Lynn said...

@SG, it's much different. Most of us have our comments e-mailed to us. It's easer to read one incoherent message from 2costa than 12.

Anonymous said...

I've never posted, but been following the lost community (and comments) since inception. Amy Lynn, I don't know why you find 2costa's posting style annoying, but I do not.

I feel your constant badgering about it unnecessary and takes away from the blog comments.

Now lets talk lost!

Amy Lynn said...

@ blackno13, why does more than one person have to find it annoying for it to stop? I asked nicely.

Anonymous said...

@Amy Lynn: Because there are better ways to address it (deal with it off the board, and not in the comments).

With that being said, I can't wait until tomorrow. The 1 week off really made it a tough wait for the next episode.

Amy Lynn said...

@blackno13, I don't think there are better ways to address it. The kid is truly annoying.

2costa said...

As everyone can see I didn't start this round and have been nothing but nice. I'm sorry to everyone if i had excessive posts today, I was just trying to help lost2010 with his project.

Amy Lynn, you need to understand, that especially after a hiatus week, there are not gonna be very many lost comments until the episode airs tomorrow night. From most of the comments I've read, no one wants to bend or break the community for the whims of one user.

Sometimes in the leaner lost times, I am the only one to post or spark up theories. I did have e-mail alerts set before and turned them off because of some of the issues you have voiced. So maybe turning the alerts off is your best bet.

I think it's funny and fitting that with lost winding down, you(amy lynn) are trying to have a lostesque battle for hearts and minds with me. Almost like the man in black vs. jacob. Unlike my adversary I am willing to let all of you flex your free will, as most of you know I can be a lot more abrasive and mean but have chosen not to go down that path. I just sat back and let youknowwho show their true colors. Only time will tell if I end up being the mib or jacob of "the TLC annoying comment feud of 2010".

2costa said...

Part of why i post smaller posts is because i have had blogger eat so many of my longer ones over the years. So i try to publish before a slip of the finger makes disappear.

blackno 13, you pulled a real man behind the curtain, I haven't seen you post in ages, that's awesome that you have always been behind the scenes reading. I know Admin is like that to.

If anything, even if cring-worthy, these posts are more entertaining than none at all. :)

Hopefully the tlc will live on past the show, if their are theories still to be had. If anything when a show or movie is over is truly when the theories to greater meaning begin.

Anonymous said...

I just hope that once its all over with, I can say "I'm satisfied with that."

So many things I've wanted FULL explanations for (like the clockwork orange-esque brainwashing room that we finally revisited with Jin this season) seem to just get a one-liner explanation.

On another note, I still have my apollo bar sitting on the shelf. How long is chocolate good for anyway? :)

lost2010 said...

@2costa - Thanks for your help! I'm going with god of the river Nile. That seems to make the most sense. I did not know that he was the god that the first plague addressed - that is something good to know and maybe an interesting tidbit as well. And I've noted the links you provided so that I'll at least have jumping off place. You were very helpful. Thanks again.

***

I am Lost mystery-less at the moment. I can't think of a single thing I'm still wondering about. . .except - will they all die or will they all just be sent to the FS world?

We've had Hurley and Libby's picnic.

We've had Sun/Jin reunited.

We've seen that the inability to be a good father in the Shephard family is not genetic as previously thought.

Sawyer would flirt with Kate in any universe apparently - even if she's a criminal and he's a cop.

Sayid is morally ambiguous in any universe - but damn, he makes morally ambigous look good.

And Kate is insane in every universe...as is Claire.

So, now it's just who lives, who dies, and who goes home?

2costa said...

ya if im satisfied thats all one could ask for.

upon watchinf jughead the other day i enjoyed it on another level because of what we saw this season, so after it's all said and done I will be happy to know i have a whole re-watching of lost to look foward to.

In jughead, richard asks dan how he can he be sure that dan won't blow up jughead in a suicide mission. HE says he won't because he loves charlotte. Knowing what we do about ricardo and isabelle, I can now see why that explaination worked for richard.

I also thik it's interesting that dan and carlotte's love seems to be a paradox like flocke giving richard the compass. In neither timeline has their love had a chance to bloom, yet dan knows he loves her in both. It makes me think there may be more timelines or at least something we haven't seen.

Also someone asked befroe how dan faraday knew his mother was a hostile in 1977 when he came back from ann arbour. In jughead I think he figured out who ellie was in 1955, when she questioned his cover story, saying that" the us army wouldn't have a brit and a chinese man with them". They flashed to dan and he had a knowing look. Like he figued out it was his mom.

TheOtherLisa said...

2c- Very interesting about Alpert being tricked into anointing Locke as leader. Hadn't thought about that or the implications (will have to give it some time!) And cool about the jughead catch that Dan knows he won't blow up b/c he loves Charlotte... in the future!

Happy Belated by the way....

2costa said...

i think another reason to think the black rock hit the statue right as a time flash was happening, is the fact the dynamite on board didn't blow up or the rest of the crew like whitfield, who were above the deck while it crashed survived. Just like kate ended up in a tree after jughead went off, the black rock seemed to have put down like a feather in the jungle, like jack in the pilot.

I think i've mentioned before, the key to richard and jacob's longevity is the warped passage of time on the island. If you think about it most of the era on the island are short with big gaps in between. The 815'er era was like 92 days, the last major era was when the french crew landed. THe only real time island time seemed to jive with the outside world for a long period of time was the dharma era, i think the orchid and the swan were responsible for time passing on a 1 to 1 ratio with the outside world from 1977 until locke imploded the swan, thats how ben aged normally from his teenage years or danielle aged appropriately That's why Dan was dismayed with how off the rocket beacon experiment from the freighter was off with real time more than he had expected. To me this implies to me that it was in sync when the swan was running and it was unpredictably out of sync after the swan was gone. The chances are that the donkey wheel has been turned before , which means there have been time flashers before the losties.

The way that most of the 815'ers except claire and sun timeflashed, makes me think there are most likely others who have time flashed on the island before 815'ers did it. Perhaps ben is just like claire as well, so just as he never flashed to 1977, he wouldn't flash at other times the island was moving.

This probably ties into how all the others like friendly picket or whoever that were candidates were killed before the flashes started.

What if Richard really isn't "living forever" ? What if he's time flashing like our losties did?

What if he really has lived only a few months (linearly) from the point of crashing on the island, and just keeps skipping around in time?

Others would them perceive him to "live forever" but in reality he only has lived a few months and his body is aging naturally.

Amy Lynn said...

blackno13, I don't think he is flashing, at least not in the same way the Losties were flashing. He was able to give John Locke very clear instructions on how to get 1950s Richard to "recognize" Locke after Locke flashed. He definitely had an awareness that he had been in the 1950s in a regular timeline.

Anonymous said...

Amy Lynn, I think you are right. I had just been kicking that idea around in my head for the past few days.

I guess I was looking for a less "fantasy" based explanation for Richard's lack of aging, besides the explanation of Jacob just having the power to make it so.

But if I'm going to scrutinize that point, I think I'd have to scrutinize the whole time jumping thing just as much LOL.

i agree blackno13, it's something like that with richard. He knew he would be in 1955 in the same way sawyer, now could know he was going to be on the island in 1977 if he was telling someone about to timeflash where to find himself in 1977. That doesn't mean sawyer lived on the island from 1977-2007 or should have aged 30 years. Richard was in the real 1955 because when one time flashes they go to that real year that it intersects with the real world time. Jack and sawyer were REALLY IN 1977 with their real 30 something year old bodies. Maybe the time flash points are like the time equivalent of solstices where the real world intersects with island time or are like the time version of the vortices, like tunesia. Like 1955 is always a timeflash stop on the donkey wheel. There are probably major times that correspond with each arm on the donkey wheel and when ben broke it it was going to times in between the spokes on the wheel.

Something i noticed is during the time flashes most people that were not flashing in the last didn't see a flash, like to rousseau, jin just dissappeared, but when ben turned the donkey wheel. Richard reacted to the timeflash light along with locke. Every richard from the past did not see the flash. Seems to show Richard may have flashed in the past. Just because 2004 kate timeflashed around, the kate she saw delivering claire's baby wasn't affected by the flash. I think part of the rules is once you are put into a timeflash loop like kate or sawyer, that is the only you that is subject to the flashes. Jughead was only to jar them out of that because it was bigger than the timeline, as a whole just like the donkey wheel seems eternal. The Donkey wheel is the only landmark that seems to stay in the state that it was when the time flashs started. THe statue or swan changed, but the donkey wheel remained broken through all the flashes. In a sense the donkey wheel is like the time jumpers, like jack who stays broken, through the time flashes or sawyer carried the hurt of his family being dead as a memory in his brain in his 35 yr old body in 1974 even though it hasn't happened in the real world yet. Just like the doctor floated ashore before he was killed on the freighter, but on a grander scale. The island is the variable and the donkey wheel is the constant. Just like the the already fated timeline is the constant and the timeflashing people are the variables.

Happy Lost Day!

I've forgotten what happened last time. . .was that the one where Locke saved Jack from a bomb landing on his head and told Jack, "You're with me now."?

Don't you imagine Jack is starting to cringe when people say stuff like that to him?

Kate says, "I'm with you Jack, I've always been with you." and then she follows up by asking him to help her steal Claire's baby.

You just don't figure that Locke saying, "You're with me now." is going to go a whole lot better, now do you?

Poor ole Jack. . .he'd better get a happy ending in this show. . .I mean, I realize he has his faults but I'm really feeling sorry for the poor guy by now.

Amy Lynn said...

@lost2010, yes, that's right.

2costa said...

it has already happened on a smaller scale, when locke moved the island he went from 2004 in island time to 2007. His body in the life and death of jeremy bentham, was really three years younger than locke would be in 2007 had he never gone to the island. So its not a major leap to think richard and jacob have been flashing to different era or turned the donkey wheel at some point. Ben gain a few month on his life when he turned the donkey wheel, because he flashed to months later than when he turned the wheel. what if where turn the donkey wheel determines, when you pop out in tunesia. lets not forget the polar bear in tunesia, and ben mentioning he had been to the orchid before or had been to the same hotel before in tunesia. Dharma or whoever have experimented on the donkey wheel before. What if Richard moved the wheel and popped out from 1900 to 1955 in tunesia and made his way back tot he island. Im not saying it happened just like that, but its more than logical and possible that something like that is at work.

i will feel cheated if they don't tie this all back to at least 50 percent science by the end

2costa said...

maybe the island has always been moving because jacob has always been turning the wheel and just knows how to get back to the island easily from tunesia no matter the era. or the candidates are like breadcrumbs that jacob uses to get back to the island

2costa said...

they have yet to explain how jacob could be in la to give hugo the guitar case and make it back to the island so quickly in time for ben to kill him, with no sub

Amy Lynn said...

@2costa, we have no idea how Jacob travels. I gather he doesn't need a sub.

2costa said...

what if the jacob that gave hurley the guitar, wasn't from exactly the same time as hurley. Maybe jacob turned the donkey wheel before 2007 and popped out in 2007 in tunesia, made his rounds to sayid and hurley, but the jacob on the island that ben killed is just an older version of jacob that had allthe time in the world to get back to the island after visiting hurley, if he knows the right bearings to go back to the island but pop out at an earlier time.

2costa said...

thats the point, how jacob travels is key to his age and the time thing

Amy Lynn said...

Yeah, interesting. I don't think we'll find out how Jacob travels. Darlton has said we're only going to find out what's important to the characters.

Does anyone remember that page on DarkUFO where you could see the grades that people gave episodes who have read all the scripts for the season? I can't seem to find it.

2costa said...

so under my theory ben could kill jacob before the jacob that gave hurley the case made it back to the island, but how is that any different than the doctor floating ashore before he is killed.

Tess315 said...

2costa
That's an interesting theory. I don't completely disagree because I believe there's more to Richard not aging than Jacob's touch. I'm not sure how Jacob travels but I think in this case Jacob had enough time to get back to the island after giving Hurley the guitar case. Hurley was in '77 for about 4 or 5 days before the bomb was detonated and flashed to the night Jacob was killed.

agreed sayid's girl, he had enough time to get back, for all we know he was on ajira flight 316 and used the 815'ers to get back to the island. I think that the more interesting thing about dan's rocket experiment isn't that the time was differnt, it was more significant that dan knew it would be off, but was surprised how far from real world time it was "off".

Dan getting the right numbers from the rocket experiment for his journal equation is also a terminator paradox, just like 2004 dan gave desmond the proper setting setting to time flash Eloise the rat back in the past in Cambridge. He wrote the proper information from the rocket experiment in his journal and presumably used that info to find the right bearing to get to the island in the first place on the freighter mission before they touched down on the island, or the info he had got from Desmond at Cambridge via future Dan on the island.

SG I don't think my theory about jacob and Richard is totally right, but some aspect of it has to be true. What are the chances that the donkey wheel has never been turned before ben or that no one timeflashed before, pretty slim.

Dan also showed us that timeflashing isn't dependent on the island since he used his equipment at Cambridge to mind flash the rat. Just like widmore had like a man made EM field set up on the hydra
