Recon - Season 6, Episode 7

Tonight on Lost: The Locke Monster sends Sawyer on a mission.

Oh, please stop with the lengthy descriptions. You give too much away!

Unless Sawyer's mission is to infiltrate a frat house, I'm guessing this photo is from a sideways story.

On another note, I received an e-mail from a commenter named Charles about a possible virus coming through TLC. He received the following message via PM:

A virus alert was noticed on your computer.
We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately: http://anti-malware.servebbs.org/online-scanner/kiwilostie
If you do not pass this test we will have to delete your account and forward a complaint to your ISP with attached log file (your IP address, etc.).

This is spam at best, a virus at worst - if you receive it, please ignore and delete it. It is not from TLC!

Thanks for the heads up, Charles!

Hope your new job is going well, ML! Thanks for the new post!

Thanks for the warning about the virus!(spam?)...I got that too, just deleted it.I've been away from the computer so much that I didn't think to say anything, sorry!
Enjoy the new ep tonight! I'll be lurking...

What email virus?

Black Swan said...

I'm here!! Didn't get anything about a virus

Black Swan said...

Jimmy....

Dedjezter said...

Ah they got you now too.... got a few of those over on the TLCBoard as well... pesky hackers.

Black Swan said...

8:42 the numbers!

RobPerrin said...

Did you folks get a "previously on LOST..." tonight? It was missing from the 7PM Canada broadcast.

Black Swan said...

LaFleur~!!

Dedjezter said...

Sawyer's an F'N cop... what the duece??????????

Sayid'sgirl said...

lol He's a cop!?!

Kat said...

That was awesome~!!!!! i like FS Sawyer!!!

Melissa_Lossa said...

LaFleur! Sawyer! Miles! I love it.

Black Swan said...

Sawyer's always the new sheriff

his number was 840 when in prison, right?

Black Swan said...

squirrel baby!

Black Swan said...

Sawyer taking the legal approach to find Cooper..

LOL, Miles, 'What's the deal Jim? You want to die alone?'

memphish said...

Hey Guys! I was out of town last week and didn't watch the show until Saturday. Don't watch LOST while unpacking; it greatly diminishes the emotional impact.

So far I'm loving tonight. Miles and Sawyer as LA Detectives -- that's a show I'll watch from post-May 2010 onward.

LostIt said...

Any bets that the woman Miles wants to set Sawyer up with is Juliet?

Dedjezter said...

Mem.... I am there with ya...

and Charlotte

Sayid'sgirl said...

Charlotte

Kat said...

CHARLOTTE!

Amy Lynn said...

Charlotte!!!

LostIt said...

OK. I lost that bet.

Black Swan said...

Hey, memphish. Welcome back! Yeah, a show I'd never get tired of..

RobPerrin said...

Charlotte is tres sexy in the sideways land.

Black Swan said...

criminal/cop sometimes not that far apart

Melissa_Lossa said...

NOOOOOO! Not Charlotte.

ObFuSc8 said...

Hey Locos!

Have DVR set and will catch up once the ep is over. Caught the opening though and whoa! Sawyer/Miles=Crocket and Tubbs!

LostIt said...

Funny that Sawyere's a cop but he let Kate escape at the airport after seein gher handcuffs.

Sayid'sgirl said...

I don't trust her

Sayid'sgirl said...

I'm not so sure he's doing it the legal way. :)

Dedjezter said...

Anyone for a buiscut???

LostIt said...

So Cooper was a bad guy in the FS. So maybe FS Locke is in denial about him? Or at least hasn't told Helen the whole truth?

Sayid'sgirl said...

The sickness or Smokey?

Amy Lynn said...

Wallace?

Sayid'sgirl said...

Hi memphish.

LostIt said...

SG, A little of both maybe? If the sickenss has something to do with SMokey, that is. And based on what happened to Sayid and Claire, it seems as though there is some correlation there.

Kat said...

this is interesting. I would like to see whats going on with Widmore.

memphish said...

Great point about Kate and Sawyer in the side flash. Why did he let her escape? Territorial dispute with the US Marshals?

RobPerrin said...

Sawyer is a cop but he's not a GOOD cop...

Sayid'sgirl said...

Liam

Black Swan said...

Interesting difference between Sawyer's reaction to Kate when she found his letter and LaFleur's reaction to Charlotte when she found that file

Kat said...

uh oh.

RobPerrin said...

Did Liam mention if he had come from Australia to bail out Charlie? Seems like a long way to go. If he wasn't in Australia, why was Charlie there?

LostIt said...

I wonder if Miles was born on the island in the FS and still has his psychic gift.

LostIt said...

Flocke uses hate as a tool to get what he wants.

Sayid'sgirl said...

Why is she asking so many questions?

Black Swan said...

I was starting not to trust her either. I get the feeling she came in on Widmore's sub?

Kat said...

shes undercover for whoever they are

Sayid'sgirl said...

Black Swan
Good thought.

Sayid'sgirl said...

And you to Kat.

Black Swan said...

If there's no more hate in them, they don't need the Island?

Sayid'sgirl said...

Sonic fence?

Kat said...

yep you were right!

LostIt said...

Looks like you were right, BS.

Sayid'sgirl said...

lol Little House

Black Swan said...

So, that means Widmore's ppl killed the other survivors of Ajira 316?

Sayid'sgirl said...

LOL

Sayid'sgirl said...

Blacky
I think it was Smokey. He told Richard he wanted them taken care of.

Black Swan said...

LOL, SG.. Sawyer didn't believe it..

Amy Lynn said...

It totally took me too long to recognize Zoey as the girl who jumped off the freighter. I'm dumb.

LostIt said...

Since it looks like they wer setting up a sonic fence, I guess Widmore is on Jacob's side. Or at least anti-MIB. Or maybe he's anti-JAcob, too. He's just in it for himself and he wants to be Jacob's replacement.

Black Swan said...

huh? that's not the same girl, is it??

Amy Lynn said...

BS, I thought her name was Zoey. Maybe not.

LostIt said...

AL, Then I'm dumber. I can't remember what that girl looked like so I didn't get it either. But I did get the feeling that we has seen her before. I just didn't know where.

Sayid'sgirl said...

AL
You mean Regina? She doesn't look like her to me. Could be wrong.

LOL Lostit
I know how you feel. I've been tryng to figure out Widmore for a couple of days.

Amy Lynn said...

LMAO, I meant Regina. The actress was Zoe. Does that count?

Sayid'sgirl said...

Dd Smokey make her say that?

Sayid'sgirl said...

Really James? Geez

Sayid'sgirl said...

Do you think Sawyer made a plan with Widmore?

Sayid'sgirl said...

Kate?

RobPerrin said...

Who could be behind that locked sub door? Des? Walt? Sideways Anthony Cooper (to get at the Locke part of Flocke)? Sideways Helen (for similar reasons)? I'm assuming for now it's a who rather than a what.

Kat said...

wow sawyer really isnt doing anything for anyone and isnt loyal to anyone. He just wants to leave.

Amy Lynn said...

Decent episode, well acted by JH especially... the best part was the preview, though.

Ginger said...

I thought this episode was supposed to be 6 min longer????

Capcom said...

Now for the popup version of Flash Forward, heheh.

I've got to rewatch this ep and do some heavy thinking about it. Hmm.

LostIt said...

I didn't think Sawyer would be loyal to Flocke and I didn't believe him when he was talking to Widmore. "How do I know I can trust you?" "The same way I know I can trust you" Translation: "You can't"

I think Sawyer and Kate will make a play to leave. Kate won't leave without Claire. Jin won't leave without finding Sun first, so I think they'll be looking for her. The wild card is Sayid. He seems to know that he's not quite himself. I can't predict what will happen with him.

Capcom said...

Did it begin a few minutes early? When I tuned in at 9 it already started.

Sayid'sgirl said...

Ginger
Next weeks episode.

Amy Lynn said...

@Ginger, no, that's next week's extravaganza.

LostIt said...

Ginger, according to my program guide, next week's episode is 6 minutes longer, not this week.

Capcom said...

Yes, poor Sayid knows that he's not right anymore. :-(

Was there anything interesting in the popups tonight?

memphish said...

Preview? Sticks hands in ears and sings la, la, la, la, la loudly.

I really enjoyed it. In part I really enjoyed it because I've been missing Sawyer, the character that was totally my favorite last year. I also enjoyed it because I got to watch LOST the way it's meant to be watched, live, with wine and computer access.

I did not enjoy Charlotte. She is gross. Sorry if anyone here likes here. Other than that I would have watched 100 hours of Jim Ford and Miles Straume as LAPD Detectives. I'm over caring about if and when the sideways world matters. And I'm pretty much over worrying about the Island too. I'm with James. I'll let everyone fight it out and escape on the sub.

LostIt said...

Could Walt be behind that door?

Amy Lynn said...

I nominate Sawyer/Miles as COPS for the spinoff with Dr. Linus/Dr. Arzt/Substitute Locke.

Sayid'sgirl said...

This weeks episode didn't seem to mirror the FS as much.

memphish said...

So Capcom, you're still in on Flash Forward? I've pretty much given up on it. I'll probably record it and watch later cause the Hubby hasn't given up yet, but it has about 2 more episodes to attempt to reel me in otherwise I'm sorry Flash Forward, but I'm just not that into you.

Black Swan said...

memphish.. I concur! But I guess that means you and I will have our own war then? ROFL!

memphish said...

I'll share the sub with you BS, just like James is going to share with Kate.

Amy Lynn said...

@memphish... This week's episode of FFis a double one.

Sayid'sgirl said...

Don't worry memphish I won't say anything. :)
I've been spoiled to many times this season.

Ginger said...

AWESOME! The episode I've been waiting for is an extra 6 min! I LOVE THIS FREAKING SHOW!

In the pop ups on Dr. Linus it said the FS was showing us what would have happened if Oceanic 815 had never crashed. So....I'm still thinking "It worked." BOOM.

RobPerrin said...

I thought this was a good episode, just lacked a bit of forward momentum. I skipped the preview, but was spoiled earlier as to the subject of next week's episode and am looking forward to it.

memphish said...

Well, let's all hope for the best with FF. I want to like it, but right now I want to punch Ralph Fiennes in the face more than I ever wanted to punch Jack in the face (which is a lot).

I can't believe as of next week LOST will be halfway thru the season. Wow! I'm still not completely sold on the sideways flashes, but I'm starting to feel more and more that whether or not you get redemption in the sideways depends on whether you're Team Jacob or Team MIB/Flocke. Seems like Sayid and Sawyer (and possibly Kate) are getting pretty much the lives they had before, i.e., killer, orphan seeking revenge, killer whereas Team Jacob - Jack, Hurley, Ben, Miles? - are getting a much better life with Jack getting over daddy issues, Hurley being lucky, Ben sacrificing for Alex and Miles having his dad too.

memphish said...

Ginger - how do you reconcile the idea of the bomb working with the fact that Roger and Ben left the Island? We saw Roger on Island the day of the Incident and presumably Ben was with the Others, yet in Ben's FS Roger said they left the Island.

Black Swan said...

memphish.. I never was good at sharing. ROFL!!

I'm still not completely sold on the sideways flashes either, but what Flocke said about needing something to hate seems to be a big clue here..

gonna re-watch now

Sayid'sgirl said...

Ginger
They've said that at the beging of every FS. I don't know if you've watched all the pop up episodes.

Capcom said...

Memphish, I'll go with Flash Forward when it starts up again, as long as it doesn't conflict with anything else good. I'd like to pay attention long enough to hear what the science is that they're going to use at least. Hopefully Officer McPouty will stop badgering his wive and driving her into the other guy's arms.

Yeah, I didn't care much about the FS-sex this ep, it was kind of gross and a waste of time. Don't think I'll be rewatching this one with the nephew. :-p

Poor Charlotte, you could count the ribs thourgh her back, wow. But she looked very pretty from the front. I really thought that James was gonna go get that cup of coffee after he left her place, and meet Juliet.

Tx for the popup info Ginger.

memphish said...

So I also got the idea this episode that where the timelines split may vary for each of our characters. Sawyer says to Charlotte (yuck!) that he reached a point where he could be a cop or a criminal and he chose cop. So I wonder if that means his life to that point was exactly the same? His parents did die as a result of Sawyer who also used the name Anthony Cooper.

If so, I wonder what that dividing point would be for everyone else. For Ben it must have been where they left the Island. But for the rest I'm not sure we've seen where point might lie.

Capcom said...

LOL, Memphish about punching Feines. X-D

BTW, was Flocke talking about his own mother ay think, or was he mind-melding with Locke again?

memphish said...

Vis a vis the pop-ups, I haven't watched any, but I have been informed of some egregious errors in them this year like Zack and Emma's parents dying on the plane, so I'd take them with a HUGE grain of salt. I think they come from ABC vs. the writers.

Capcom said...

Yes, the dividing points seem to be key points. I guess everything that happened after 1977 split off????

memphish said...

Capcom, I think Flocke was talking about his 200 year old mother from the way the dialogue ran. At first it was ambiguous since Locke's mother was crazy too, but I think the crazy woman he was talking about raised him.

LostIt said...

Capcom, I was wondering the same thing about Flocke's mother. Also, what do you think the point of his story about her was. What was he trying to get Kate to do?

Ginger said...

I don't even pretend to reconcile any ideas I get from this show! LOL

I have to go home now. Back later.

Capcom said...

OK, tx Memphish, that's how I took it but then I wasn't sure. I'm getting the feeling that MIB has been watching and waiting for Locke for a long time, as they seem very sympatico and a Locke as a perfect fit for MIB to slide into and use.

Capcom said...

I'm not sure Lostit. I guess tug at her heart-strings, if nothing else. MIB seems kind of whiney. lol

Capcom said...

Blogger acting weird...testing.....

Sayid'sgirl said...

lol capcom. It got quite quick and for a long time didn't it.

Amy Lynn said...

I think the only thing I was really disappointed with in Recon was the final beat before the LOST... even if there's not going to be a life-changing, twist end to each episode, who really cares if Sawyer and Kate are going to get on the sub? They could just as easily get Frank to fly the damn Ajira plane.

2costa said...

if certain stuff changed after 1977 in the flash sideways, sawyer was still touched by jacob in the sideways because it happened in 1976, and thats why he is still all obsessed with cooper like locke was in lost1.0

Just Thinking said...

Oh I had a lovely comment- but blogger ate it!

Just Thinking said...

Well, I'm too tired now- but it was:

James is a cop and has a friend and I love it-

The choices theme is there again- James big choice to be a cop, like Ben's choice with Alex.

Another mirror- James breaks it and maybe that is a symbol of connecting to what I think of as the time before, and what was learned there. After that he reaches out to Charlotte, and then Miles. Lesson- don't go it alone!

I thought Juliet too-but she probably will come later after James resolves his Cooper issue- when he is really ready to connect. He's on his way- and I think getting past Kate is just part of the f/side journey.

Just Thinking said...

BTW- if anyone is holding out hope for Sayid - Watching him stand by while Claire attacks Kate kind of dashes it I think.

Amy Lynn said...

@JT, some of us thought that was the right thing for Sayid to do. :)

Just Thinking said...

I hadn't thought of that! lol

Ginger said...

I hadn't noticed the pop ups saying that the FS was if 815 never crashed, but I don't catch all the pop ups either. It just stuck out to me tonight for some reason.

Detective Ford letting Kate go @ the airport & now catching her on the run is WEIRD. What up with that?

I love Miles. I was wondering the same thing Lostit asked earlier. Was Miles born on the island in the FS & still able to talk to the dead?

Sawyer is weaving quite a web for Widmore & Flocke. I loved the comment Widmore made about how little James knew about what was going on.

Was Claire really sorry? Is she coming back from the "darkness"?

That convo w/Kate & Flocke was verrry interesting. His mother was crazy too? Just like Locke's? That's a big kawinkydink. He is so manipulative in that scene.

2costa said...

i wonder if the virus has something to do with woman becoming crazy moms because of mib's history.

seems like mib wants to go back in time to change his history with his mom.

perhaps locke having a crazy mom has something to do with why he is a perfect vessel for mib

im starting to think ben leaving the island when he was a kid is the key difference to the sideways. Like sawyer being a cop or whatever. No machiavellian ben on the island and a lot of stuff would have been differnt

Ginger said...

AL - that's just wrong LOL

Ginger said...

Sayid is making me sooo sad!

Ginger said...

Maybe Ben & Roger evacuated the island after the bomb exploded? It was underground. So I don't think it would have destroyed the island, but they may have evacuated people because of radioactivity? Again, I don't pretend to know much about these things or reconcile any ideas I get from this show. I think I need a disclaimer statement;P

maven said...

Interesting episode...not mind-blowing, but definitely leading up to another big showdown! Awesome previews!

A lot of similarities with James' sting and the pigeon drop like in his flashbacks. Cool that he choose to be a cop! So he was actually warning Hurley about con men on the plane...not himself! Also can't understand why he helped Kate escape from the airport. Will he do it again now that he captured her on the street?

Flocke sure seems to be helpful and concerned about everyone...reassuring Zack and Emma, explaining to Kate about Claire, promising to answer questions from the Temple-ites.

Flocke telling Sawyer to do re-con on Hydra Island (blend in, find out everything you can) reminded me of Ben sending Ethan and Goodwin to the survivors from 815.

A lot of mentioning of lies/truth tonight. Miles tells Ford "Don't lie to me." and Charlotte wants him to "tell me the truth". Relates to the bigger story of who is lying to whom between Widmore and Flocke.

Noticed the books on Ford's dresser...saw "Watership Down" that he read on the island.

So Ford's history is the same regarding his parents/Sawyer. That happened before Jacob came into his life.

Cool seeing Liam coming to help Charlie!

Another reflecting in a mirror (in the police locker room). James doesn't like what he sees!

Flocke's story to Kate about his crazy mother echo's Locke's.

Sunflower was a poignant touch back to Juliet.

Is Widmore on Jacob's side? How can Flocke be killed?

Scoutpost said...

Haven't caught up on comments yet, but I had to get one thing off my chest:
I would SOOOOO watch a spinoff show where Sawyer and Miles were LAPD!

Ok now back to catching up.

Black Swan said...

Hi Maven,
good observations, as always. I'm still re-watching and catching other ppl's views on this ep.
you said..
Flocke sure seems to be helpful and concerned about everyone...reassuring Zack and Emma, explaining to Kate about Claire, promising to answer questions from the Temple-ites

I think Flocke is only showing his dishonesty and his manipulations here and the similarity to Ben (that you also felt I see, because of your next statement). In my notes:
MIL is manipulating his 'flock', they don't know he's the smoke monster. He tells them the smoke monster is the one who killed all those at the temple, but doesn't admit it's him, rather he uses it as a way to keep them with him, like, see? I'll keep you safe. Reminds me of Ben, Locke was upset to be interrupted by Sawyer in front of his 'people' .. admits he's Smokey to Sawyer only.

Someone at DarkUfo wrote this and I agree:
As always, Smokey tells people what they want to hear. He told Kate that Claire is a dingbat because he wants her to think she was right to take Aaron. Kate is feeling guilty. As for Smokey's mother being crazy, who knows? Maybe she was. But he never would have brought it up if he wasn't trying to get to Kate. He's really good at digging into people's fears and shredded egos. (He gave her a sliver of hope that maybe Claire would be unable to be Aaron's mother after all)

And I agree Flocke also reminded me of Ben when you say:
Flocke telling Sawyer to do re-con on Hydra Island (blend in, find out everything you can) reminded me of Ben sending Ethan and Goodwin to the survivors from 815.

As far as this question:
Also can't understand why he helped Kate escape from the airport.

This answer from someone over at Dark's works for me:
I think the reason for this is that if Sawyer did something official as a cop at LAX then he would have to reveal to his superiors that he had been in Australia, and he didn't want to do that since he had murderin' on his mind.

Scoutpost said...

Thanks for those answers from over at Dark's, BS...
I am not as concerned about Sawyer letting Kate go at the airport. I agree with what BS just posted, but also what someone else said. Sawyer is not exactly the squeaky clean cop.

I also agree that MIB tells people what they want to hear. But it is an interesting twist to hear about the mommy issues. If he's telling the truth...MIB had crazy mom, Locke has crazy mom, Aaron has crazy mom...maybe Smokey/MIB can only inhabit people who have crazy moms? Maybe he will watch Aaron or has plans to inhabit Aaron at some point in time?

Black Swan said...

Hi, Scoutpost! you said...
I would SOOOOO watch a spinoff show where Sawyer and Miles were LAPD!

Me too!

So now we have the daddy and mommy issues.. hmmm. And once again we see Jacob and MIB as both being manipulators here, but with different approaches. Jacob manipulates by making deals concerning people's wishes.. while MIB manipulates by instilling fear. It almost sounds like different approaches to child rearing. LOL!

I liked seeing that Sawyer is Flock-resistant.. LOL!
In recon when James is on the 'sting op' with the wife of the conman they are really after, she says she doesn't believe him because the cops haven't come rushing in, He says it's because HE DOESN'T NEED SAVING... seems to parallel on Island and Sawyer said he was going to let Widmore and Smokey fight it out (and I don't think he means JUST him and Kate.. He tells Jin he's with Locke because he will get them off the Island. Jin says he can't leave because Sun might be there and Sawyer says if she is, they won't leave without her.)

memphish said...

Sawyer doesn't know that Frank is on the Island does he? I don't think he's encountered the non-flashing 316ers yet.

Just Thinking said...

Well-Kate knows Sun and Frank were on the plane- so she could tell Sawyer.

2C-your thought about MIB going back in time to solve Mommy problems made me think- what if that is the whole deal? What if Jacob and MIB are going back over and over to change things, but have to follow the rules of what happened happened, so they can on make small changes in events and people. The next time they would see how their changes played out and try to make more-until they reach the goal.

Then they wouldn't go back and we would have our f/sideways.

Crazy? And probably others have come up with it already elsewhere-but I am trying to think along with you'al.

Just Thinking said...

And Blogger ate that twice- so save save save!

Just Thinking said...

About people have different "dividing points" from the previous timeline- well maybe those are just points where the f/side plays out differently than the previous time, due to the changes in the Losties on the island and to Jacob & MIB not being there anymore.

Did Jacob have to start way back in time and make small changes there, then work his way forward through people -through candidates-to get to the 2007 group on the island? Maybe they are crossed out when they have changed the way they need to -or have changed the timeline the way they need to.

Sterling said...

Really enjoyed this episode!
Sawyer and Miles as cops is great (thought that was Ben and Locke's new gig lol)!Squirrel baby! Flocke had a crazy mom? Can't wait to see that back story! Sawyer playing double agent with Widmore and Flocke.

Sterling said...

On a side note, my hubby had me rolling on the floor last night.

I had to work the late shift so I'm watching at about 1:00 in the morning and hubby's asleep on the couch. He wakes up just in time to hear Miles and Sawyer arguing and hears Miles say he's Sawyer's partner.
And my husband sits up and says "Whoa! Wait a minute! This version of Sawyer is GAY????"

Just proves you can't miss a minute of this show or you're completely LOST!

bigdog said...

Morning and happy st patty's day. green dharma beers for everyone in honor of jim ford.

Well since Sawyer is my favorite charachter i loved this ep.

sawyer/miles spinoff - im in.

sawyer having sex with a bunch of cops outside listening kinda creepy.

the crazy mom story stood out the most for me. i tend not to believe MIB but the way he tied that into Aaron was wild. i think kate is being played and i worry that she doesnt see it and will mess up the great sub escape.

cant wait for the jin/sun reunion, its time already.

was so disappointed when i saw Charlotte, but glad he kicked her out, she was snooping right?

2costa said...

just like last week artz was in the flash sideways and was mentioned in 2007 at the black rock. Hurley disscussed how he blew up.

This week watership down was in the flash sideways and kate and sawyer were eating some rotisserie rabbit in 2007. reminded me of alex and karl having some rabbit

how would 815 not crashing cause jack to have a son, shannon's man deciding to stick with her instead of ditch her in australia, or sawyer to join the police. It can't be because they never flashed to 1977 because they probably did still flash, just not the people from the sideways. So i think it is the lack of ben pulling the strings for jacob. Ben said in the incident he had acted on many notes from jacob. So maybe jack has a kid because ben didn't engineer jack's wife leaving him. Shannon stayed in australia because ben never paid off her boyfriend to leave her. Sawyer is a cop because ben probably pulled some string originally that didn't make that possible.

i think that the game between mib and jacob has played out before, where mib corrupted or killed all of the candidates, but never got anyone to kill jacob. So the game resets and jacob starts over from the beginning. He has to kill all the candidates before jacob has been replaced and that will somehow reset mib's timeline back to before his mother goes crazy. While jacob is alive or replaced mib can never go back in time or leave the island.

last week illana said the new jacob will be annointed when a candidate is chosen or accepted. Who is going to do the choosing or accepting.

widmore and his portable sonic pile ons seems to show the reintroduction of science to the story. Widmore used his off island time to use scientist to quantify the island and its powers in a scientific way. He managed to recreate the timetraveling through financing faraday. He always sends science teams to the island. He had faraday figure out the proper bearings to come and go from the island. I manipulating the science of the island is important to jacob.

how is sawyer going to drive a sub off the island or know the proper bearing to make it back to his proper time?

Amy Lynn said...

Okay, so in FS, Sawyer's parents die when he was nine, not eight... making their deaths in 1977, instead of 1976. Were their deaths now CAUSED by the hydrogen bomb?

2costa said...

sawyer having sex while the cops were watching/listening was a parallel to he and kate knocking boots in the fish biscuit cage while ben/ jack watched on the hydra cameras. Sawyer even walked by the cages to remind us further as well as kate telling flocke. Zoe whistling and having the widmore team pop out was also like sawyer having the cops rush in.

bigdog said...

good stuff 2costa.

2costa said...

probably a continuity error Amy lynn. So far we have been led to believe nothing has changed pre 1977 because both timelines share the common past before 1977. The only way i could see other changes is if faraday did some stuff to change things while he was off at an arbor from 1974-1977.

i still think that could be false though, last week ben didn't seem like he was still shot when he was a kid or his dad might have mentioned it. So i am still open to the sideways having a slightly different past before 1977 than lost prime

interesting that sawyer was given the chance to go to the pivotal time period of his life that made him. He was timestuck from 1974-1977. He had the chance to stop cooper before he caused his parents to die, but didn't. mib seems to want the same opportunity.

also last week richard said that jacob told him everything was happening and had a plan. i think we all know that plan included dying by ben's hand. I think that jacob wanted ben to kill him. He waqs hoping he was wrong about ben making the right choice when it was between illana and flocke. Ben really didn't have a choice when he killed jacob. Alex was telling him to do everything flocke said. So ben really never flexed his free will choice until last week when he had the gun on illanna. jacob hoped he wouldnt choose team flocke.

i wonder if widmore aspiration to rule the island will make him susceptible to one of smokey's deals

Amy Lynn said...

@2costa... I thought it might be an error, but it appears twice, once in the newspaper, and in the script itself.

2costa said...

last night also showed us that cooper is still an a-hole in the sideways. the question is did he change his ways and thats why he didnt throw locke out the window. Did he still throw him out the window in the sideways? or was the son of coopers latest con a plant by ben/widmore/jacob to cause locke to pressure cooper to retire/turn himself in and subsequently throw locke out the window. It reminds me of jack having the son in the sideways. Does he have a son because nobody lured sarah away from her marriage with jack, just like the son of coopers future wife seemed to show locke how evil cooper was?

2costa said...

what appeared the age of sawyer or the year it happened? remember locke's obituary wasn't consistent either or the sonogram date for claire. it said jeremy lathim or something and that he was from ny or something. They might have forgotten how old sawyer was in 1976. So if it was 1976 that would just mean sawyer is a year older than he should be in 1976 which makes no sense.

seems to me widmore only wanted to extract ben with the freighter team to ensure jacob wouldn't be killed by Ben. Seems intersting that Ben made sayid even more of a cold blooded killer off island to further jacob's plan. Why else would he have illana bring sayid back.

I also think ben's line to sayid about always being a killer in every life might refer to the fact that ben is a killer in the original timeline but not in the sideways. I think Ben knows the stakes of the game and that's why he is on team jacob instead of flocke

Amy Lynn said...

They might have forgotten how old sawyer was in 1976.

That's just silly.

maven said...

Re: Cooper
It makes me wonder what kind of info Sawyer had on Cooper that he made the trip all the way to Australia (instead of a weekend in Palm Springs...that's a lot of flying!) And was Cooper actually in Australia? Locke's father seems to be a good guy in his relationship with Locke/Helen in the FS...but with a shady past?

2costa said...

if mib and jacob are brothers with a common crazy mother, then maybe the jack is the new jacob and claire the new smokey theory makes more sense. Perhaps she made her sons play this game of good and evil or cops and robbers if you will and always made jacob be the good guy. Perhaps she made them hate each other. Seems like the hate flocke was telling kate about in relation to claire is like the hate towards cooper that drove both sawyer and locke to chase cooper. interesting that in the sideways only sawyer seems to still be obsessed with cooper

i also think it's possible that ben and locke are brothers. Both of their mom's are named emily. Ben was born at least a good 10-12 years after locke.

shannon and boone even make more sense in this context

Amy Lynn said...

@2costa... you mean in the FS? Because we've seen both Ben and Emily's mother in the real timeline, and they aren't the same person.

2costa said...

well i thought maybe emily locke was emily linus but thats probably wrong. For this to be true the old emily locke that came to locke in walmart would be fake. So it's probably wrong.

2costa said...

widmore's line to sawyer," it's sad how little you know", made me think that widmore knowing so much about the rules and the war is why he had to leave the island or why he is no longer an candidate if he ever was. It seems that once you know to much you cant be a candidate because you are no longer making the free choice anymore. The same goes for ben, it relates to my theory that if you become the leader of the others you forgo your chance at being the new jacob and end your candidacy. perhaps why they were trying to make locke kill cooper before he became leader.

2costa said...

who else thinks desmond is locked away in widmore's sub? a sailboat is the only other way i can see desmond showing up...

maven said...

I like the idea that Desmond is in the locked room on the sub. But why would Widmore want him there? I know the island isn't done with him yet....does Widmore think Desmond is vital to the outcome of whatever showdown is being set up?

Amy Lynn said...

Maybe Eloise told Charles he had to take Desmond.

RobPerrin said...

maven - I also think Desmond locked on the sub is the most likely outcome. Either that or a giant Hoover to suck up Smokey.

memphish said...

Maybe he needed Desmond or some other candidate in order to actually get back to the Island given his exile. That's basically how Ben returned - with candidates, well maybe.

maven said...

Well, if it's Desmond in that room, I can see why it's locked up! Desmond didn't want anything to do with "getting back" to the island with the O6 and he stormed off out of the pendulum room. He would have had to be brought back to the island forcefully.

memphish said...

I'm not sure it makes sense that it's Desmond in the locked room, but just like I was jonesing for Sawyer to find Juliet in the X-verse, I want it to be Desmond because dadgumit we need some Desmond. (And some Sawliet.)

Amy Lynn said...

It's definitely Des on the sub. Sort of this year's Michael on the Freighter.

Hi LoCos
First off apologies to ML I don't look at your posts or read them when I open the new thread so I didn't know you had posted about the email thing on the front page.

There was another blog that I was reading over the hiatus that had the same problem.

JT
Sayid does acknowledge to Kate that he isn’t ok, so maybe knowing that, there’s hope, if he can get control of the darkness.

2costa
It does seem that MIB wants to go back and change his history with his mom. Or he could be trying to get Kate to bring Aaron to the island so he can have access to him. But I’m not sure how they’d do that. I’ve heard on some podcasts that some people think MIB might be Aaron.

Maven
You ask how can MIB be killed. I’ve been thinking about that. Are we sure he has to be killed or just trapped again? Right now I’m just thinking he has to be trapped and under control again.

Amy Lynn
I noticed the age difference in Sawyer’s back story too. For now I’m gong to chalk it up to a continuity error. But I could be wrong.

I’d like for it to be Desmond in the room on the sub, and like maven said he would have had to been brought against his will. I’ve also heard the theory that it could be Walt, but I don’t know why they’d lock him up.

Sayid'sgirl said...

The thing with it being Desmond on the sub is, the last thing Widmore said to him in his office was. Deliver your message you're getting involved with something that has nothing to do with you or my daughter. And for him to go back into hiding with Penny.

Just Thinking said...

Oh- so why is Charlotte trying to find out about Cooper? I get the idea she is working with someone-who might have been in the room when she closed the door. (Isn't that always why they won't let someone in?)

No one mentioned the obvious reason why Sawyer would let Kate go-instant attraction to Freckles in any timeline.

I really don't have a problem with Kate. I was sorry for her actually when she was left in the middle of Zombie Sayid, Crazy homicidal Claire and freaky DeadLocke- especially when he hits Claire. That was not a good place to be.

Takes a Village said...

So,Did FS Det.Ford shoot that guy in Austrailia?

maven said...

TAV: I believe that killing did not take place in the Shrimp Wagon. Det. Ford went to Sydney for a specific reason...to chase down a lead and he got a name (Anthony Cooper)

2costa said...

i like how the one girl outsawyered sawyer and called him dimples.

maybe since this is lost, the room is locked to protect what's inside instead of locking it in. Like jacob's cabin ash was to keep smokey out not jacob in.

i dont think smokey is aaron, but he has a soft spot for aaron for having a crazy mom. claire was always a little skiddish, she wasn't sure she wanted aaron. She was totally ready to give him to ethan and she wandered off with christain.

i still want to know why jill, who worked for ben in la, worked in simon's butchershop. Since charlie's dad was a butcher named simon. In the deleted scene with jill she tells ben that desmond is at the pier and offers him a gun.

i also wonder if widmore tried to kill alex when she was a baby because jacob ordered it or because he knew eventually she would lead ben down the road to killing jacob. I think widmore didn't order keamy to kill alex. Keamy flexed free will.

2costa said...

i also think that whoever has to "accept" the candidate is jacob/smokey's boss, maybe thier mother or someone or thing we have never seen.

Hi all, I managed to watch the episode but my downloaded copy was jumping more than a broken donkey wheeled island.

I'll have to wait for Friday to see the whole thing, but I think I got the general idea of what was going on.

Widmore looks more and more like he is on team Jacob, and it wouldn't suprise me at all if Jacob himself was in the locked room.

Lots of nice touches and references in this episode, all round it was quite satisfying for me.

I do begin to wonder if Sawyer was more aware of the on island version of himself. Just a few things that hinted at it.

2costa said...

perhaps my brain was simply protecting me form the truth, but i still can't believe that richard alpert was the latino guy on suddenly susan, yikes

2costa said...

along with copies of a wrinkle in time and watership down on sawyers desk was a book called lancelot. I wonder if this is foreshadowing of his ultimate role on lost. Is he lancelot to jack's arthur and kates guinevere? Although she cheated with lancelot, Arthur is still ultimately the chosen one...

Sayid'sgirl said...

2costa
I think the books were just to mirror the ones Sawyer read on the island. That book isn't about the knigts of the round table. But it's a good thought about the triangle.

2costa said...

but the title still evokes that thought about camelot. sawyer is often comapared to han solo and lancelot is a lot like that.

i guess miles name in the alt is miles chang since his dad is still in his life. wonder how this affects the candidate list. Straume wasn't on there but chang was

if pierre chang got off the island, it shows jughead didn't kill him, even though he was at ground zero. It also lines up with the original timelines orientation films, where it showed dharma left the island after the incident but left a 2 man team to push the swan button. i still dont see why richard said he saw everyone die back in 1977.

Zort70 said...

Seeing everyone die may just have meant they were consumed by the blast, and their bodies were not found. i.e. they time travelled instead of dying.

maven said...

Hysterical LOST Slapdown #7 (from DarkUFO)

2costa said...

good point zort

2costa said...

chang being ok in the sideways seems to show there was no blast at the swan. or did chang get pretty far away before juliette did her thing?

2costa said...

the way widmore said he ruled the island in peace for 30 years, but we know hawkings was the leader for some of that time and richard said only one leader aon island at a time, it makes me think that perhaps ben had widmore leave the island on the sub at some weird coordinates that somehow changed the timeframe or widmore in the original timeline is switched with widmore from the sideways. Just like when ben moved the island it was replaced by a equal amount of water from somewhere else, then maybe if you switch timelines the you from the other timeline goes to the other side of the mirrorverse. Perhaps desmond has this ability and that why he kept seeing charlie die. Maybe the sideways is always the course correction place depending on what kind of course correction the original timeline calls for.

widmores line to ben" i know who you are and what you are". what is ben? a candidate? Maybe ben is an insert into the timeline, where widmore ruled from 1977-2007 in the original and ben was put there to take him down earlier in . Much like i think desmond was inserted into the timeline to change a former iteration? Maybe the original timeflashes to 1955 by locke and co changed widmore form being the leader to hawkings. No locke in 1955 and widmore doesn't break his fellow others neck. Mabe he ruined his chances as leader back then in 1955. widmore and hawkings seem to young to be the leader of the others in 1955. I wonder who the leader of the others was back then?

2costa said...

why would charles say he knew who ben was, if ben was an adult when he exiled widmore from the island? in all the flashbacks we saw with ben as an other he had lots of dealings with widmore, So it makes sense that widmore in his hotel bed was the widmore from the sideways that ruled the island for 30 years and only met ben when he was a child or never at all because roger linus took ben off the island before he could ever ascend to being the leader of the others. Plus that might explain why widmore in 2004 looks way older than he should at this point because he is a few years older and has already seen the result of the war on the island in 2007 and somehow gone and assumed his life years earlier in the original timeline but with his older body from the sideways. Widmore in recon 2007 looks younger then widmore in 2004. Hawkings may also be a bit older than her age should be in 2004. She certainly looked way younger in 1977 than in desmonds time flash in the jewelry store, which was in the 1990's. If you think about it the older hawkins doesn't seem to age in any of her appearances, but they felt the need for a younger actress to portray hawkings in 1999 or whatever a mere 22 yrs later.

Well, I've rewatced Recon several times and with each viewing I laff even more. The episode is written by Elizabeth Sarnoff(spl) and a male writer I think. What a hoot of a time they had with Sawyer as James Ford. Not only does James get " You Know What" from the low life street criminal to the High Brow Professional Educated..but he brings them to Unbelievable every time...pppffffffffffT!!!..Seems to me that Unbelievable is when you shred the sheets and pillow and at least bust the mattress and bedframe in half...if you even make it to the bed in the first place..I feel sorry for whose ever fantasy we are seeing projected..I mean..not one fingernail gouge on Fords back..not one bite mark..not one..despite all the sweat stains thru the seasons..not one bead of sweat nor mussed up hair. I think the unreal here..is obvious. And if ya bit on the hook of this Illusion..there still is a problem. Fords got a screw loose and its called Sawyer. Speakin of Sawyer..off he goes to inflitrate the bad guys and make a deal with Cold Finger..Anybody else see a satire of the whole James Bond Illusion in the episode? Satire on Illusions? ..a possible...drum role please..add the tympani,,thank you...a Self Satire? NO Body Expects the Spanish Inquisition!!!

Okay okay..true..there were at least 4 apologies in this episode. LockrZilla to the kiddies... LockeZilla to Kate...Clairol to Kate..and the human tripod, Ford, to Charollete..I stopped counting. Those were the easy ones. I can think of a few more. The sheets...Too Many Sheets!..No Sheets! is what I say..The gals get their frontal Sawyer..the guys get..Sheets!!...Another apology should be forthcoming on...Little House on the Praire in My LOST!!!! I mean.. this is LOST..Mr Guarantee a Good Nite Sleep doesn't really give a crap cuz alls hes really focused on is zeroing in on the rite Cooper and Killing him,,watches LHot P...cuz..it reminds him of the family life he never had..GUess What!!?? NONE OF US EVER HAD THIS KIND OF FAMILY LIFE.." do you hear that? Thats the sound of laughter and having fun. Thats what Life is all about.".................
..............gik.........................................................
Actually..a absolute Brilliant stroke of Dark Humor genius in that scene,..Almost..well..as good as..the red sox winning the world series scene from season 3. And then,, being inspired by Pa Ingels, Sawyer being told hes Looney by Charolette..damn rite!! Get a clue!!

Hey..speakin about Clues..this is so inside out..hang on to your bed sheets for this one..In the middle of all the crazy going on..well first..let me remind you all that I have long said that LOST is a modernization of..a picking up where " Nadja" left off story. " Nadja" being the surreal classic by Andre Breton..the book that ends with an account of a plane disappearing over an Island..well before that account.. the Character " Nadja" is hauled off to a Insane Asylum...So..when LockeZilla confides to Kate that his Mommy..was Crazy..disturbed..and that created problems still being worked out today..Well.. the last 5 years of my insanity has become sane. Howabout that.Anybody care to jump on boardnow..Yes it is..its all about Illusion as Reality..what is sane and what is insane. Which brings us to Widmore. Now that we have seen that LockZilla can resolve issues without going Smokie..I wonder..which Wid expects to battle? We've Kate grab a rifle to only take a swing at Clairol,,instead of aiming the barrel at her..progress!..and we've seen Lockzilla resolve issues with out the Smokiefication..Progress!!,,,So..which does Wid prepare for?...the Illusion as Reality..or the Truth..which is sane and which is insane? Dam. I Love LOST!!

2costa said...

i bet smokey can only go across the water in his human form and that is key to widmore's plan to retrap him. Widmore knew full well that sawyer might betray him but he didn't care. it was all about widmore throwing down the guantlet with locke and vice versa.

im telling you widmore and hawkings being from the not to distant future is a good theory

@LostIt, yes, very similar stuff going on. Lots of referential stuff. The name that Ricky Jay gave as his moniker, "Flosso", is a tribute to Al Flosso, a famous magician back in the golden days of Coney Island. SO and I busted out laughing when he said his name. Awesome.

Finally got caught up with the comments...LOST watched me the first time around, and it wasn't until last night that I got a chance to watch it all the way through. I loved it, but I agree that it was way too short! I want more Miles and Ford as LAPD...

Richard Alpert on Suddenly Susan!!

randome thoughts:
-ew, Charlotte. I agree she was snooping, not just 'looking for a t-shirt'. Another dig, Char? She deserved to get booted out, 3am or not.
-a gay Sawyer? roflolmao
-maybe Anthony Cooper is being framed, or maybe he was Sawyer and then changed his ways before finding Locke for the kidney, we still don't know why Locke is in the wheelchair (a result of an oops when they took his kidney for Dad?) Jury still out on this one.
-I kept getting the feeling that we should know who Smocke is from his story about his mom. Crazy mother...things should have been different...all he wants to do is go home, leave this place...there's too much familiar in his story, but I just can't place it. Not Cain and Abel, not Jacob and Esau...Reminds me of a Greek tragedy or something.
-still waiting for my James and Juliet coffee date!
-James became a cop to hunt down & kill Sawyer instead of becoming a criminal to hunt down & kill Sawyer? Potayto, potahto...
-personally, I like the theory that James let Kate-in-cuffs escape the airport because he wasn't supposed to be there. However, I definitely got a "Peter Parker lets the bad guy escape only to regret it later" vibe when James catches her in the FS.

i think sawyer was still a con before he was a cop. He probably got scared straight or without jacob/ben pulling the strings he never went to jail. he said lafleur as the password because it was an old con name he used, just like in 1974. i wonder if his letter exists in the sideways. perhaps if jacob doesnt exist here he never finished writing the letter because his pen ran out. 2C- sorry, I'm lost as to how you are switching people around in the timelines there. I don't know if the general audience could sort that out at this point as well- so -do you think it can be shown simply?

Rewatch thoughts-

Teddy bear in the woods- so it was Zach before!

Sawyer on flip cell with antenna-establishing time again.

Charlotte- we may not like her, but Faraday loved her. And she cannot go back to the island because it is sunk. So it may be very good for Daniel that she is about-though she sure hops into bed quickly with someone other than him!

If Jacob is nudging events that lead to progress for the Losties, maybe he is also doing it for Flocke. Maybe instead of "playing" with him, he is trying to help him.

I was very glad to see Liam there for Charlie. So now maybe Charlie can have the reward of not having to be the one to save his loved ones-instead they can save him.
