LA X - Season 6, Episode 1

This description says it all:

The sixth and final season begins in the aftermath of the H-bomb detonation, as the survivors learn "when" they are.

Here we go......

Ooohhhhhh I think that was Jacob in Sayids Body... The note said Sayid had to die.... whos with me?

Head hurts... time for bed

Black Swan said...

LOL, Amy Lynn!

Sayid is shown getting up right after they show the real dead Locke laying there... hmm, who else will be getting up saying, what happened?

Black Swan said...

Oh, interesting, Ded!

I always liked the idea of the bad twin war with Jacob taking over the real Locke's body..

memphish said...

I'm with you Ded. I think Jacob is in Sayid's body too. I thought he was going to take it way back at the van.

Black Swan said...

There was so much 'twinning' with earlier eps, yet with differences.

The flare going up proves they are all back in the same timeline on Island again.

lost2010 said...

Well, that was great! I really like the 'plane landed' timeline. It's a lot like watching for the Season 1 Connections that I always liked.

And thank goodness Sayid's alive! I was afraid they were just going to take them out one by one.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

wow, all I have to say right now is wow !! Mind blowing !!

Tess315 said...

TAV
I knew it. But I'm not so sure he will be the same. Or that he's the same person so to speak. I don't know.

Amy Lynn said...

lost2010, I would be good money that that is Jacob and not Sayid.

My biggest problem with LA X is that that they took away Juliet's heroine death and gave her a crappy Romeo/Juliet one. Poor writing.

Black Swan said...

We're supposed to have Darlton on our local news tonight.. I'll report if anything new. Or maybe I shouldn't here? They say it will be talk about future episodes, so that's spoiler here, right?

Capcom said...

I like that Ded.

That second hour went too fast!

lost2010 said...

I think it's interesting that someone always have to give consent before they heal someone at the temple -

Kate for Ben and now Jack for Sayid.

I don't know if it means anything, I just think it's interesting.

Just Thinking said...

Richard in chains- so maybe a slave on the Black Rock?

Amy Lynn said...

JT, that was my impression.

Capcom said...

I noticed that too Lost2010.

memphish said...

So I think I may go on to bed and try to process what exactly it is we were seeing.

It's clear that the 316ers and 815ers and Freighties that were in 1977 flashed back to 2007 as evidenced by the skyrocket from the Temple.

Thank you thank you that you showed us Cindy and the kids! Now I never need to see them again.

How would a dying Juliet know that the bomb worked to tell Miles? And speaking of Miles he clearly knew something was up with Sayid's body. Can't decide yet if he's not dead or Jacob. I think I'd prefer not dead because we've already got enough Bad Twins on this Island.

The thing I can't figure out though is the alternate 815. If they didn't crash on the Island in 2004 then why are they still on the Island. I don't like a split timeline because it takes away consequences. If for every choice I make there's another universe then the choices I make are meaningless and MIB/Flocke/Smokey wins regardless.

Here's another thing I can't figure out. Way back when Locke turned the wheel Widmore told him he needed to be on Island when the war came (and alive). How would Widmore know that?

So, just some thoughts to ponder. I'll check back in in the morning. I was thoroughly entertained by the episode/s tonight. Yeah for LOST being back.

Black Swan said...

I'm most confused by what Juliet 'said' to Miles after death... that 'it worked'

RamHatter said...

Wow. Still trying to gather my thoughts after that episode. Full speed ahead with season six! I need to sort through that ep.

Just Thinking said...

Yes- someone has to make the choice to save them at the Temple. Maybe the note said to save Sayid- but Jacob knew that it would not work and he would die in the temple instead- and that would get Jacob into the Temple?

Amy Lynn said...

memphish, I'm pretty sure that "it worked" had nothing to do with the bomb. If that's actually what Juliet said, i have no idea what it means. But I think Miles was lying. Juliet said she was pregnant, which is why Miles said it didn't matter anymore.

RamHatter said...

Yeah, how did Juliet know "it worked" when no one else did? The only thing that I can think of is she has something else to say to James, that was the original important thing to say. However, now she's dead she knows that it worked because being able to see things from that realm. (Thinking out loud...)

TakesaVillage said...

Welcome West Coasters;
You might wanna buckle up.
Great to see Cindy ,Zack & Emma again.
Good night Loco's.

Amused2bHere said...

omg!
what?
that was a great beginning to the end.
What?
Juliet!!!!!!!!!!!!
aw man...
Sayid!
yeah, I'd be digging up Jules to see if the magic water worked on her too.

is it Tuesday yet?

Black Swan said...

I'm going to have to watch that again.

Amy.. you sure about that? It would make sense that Miles didn't want Sawyer to know that.

Amy Lynn said...

Did anyone check the credits to see who was playing Zach and Emma tonight?

memphish said...

Still here. I don't think Juliet would tell James that she was pregnant as she was dying. She was totally protective of him and that would kill him even more, so I don't think that was it. She was sort of raving though, so maybe. I can totally see her ghost or whatever it is telling Miles to lie to James though. But clearly something happened or else I wasted a third of the episode seeing LAX. Is it next Tuesday yet?

RamHatter said...

Does this mean reading "Bad Twin" again by Gary Troup?

ObFuSc8 said...

At present, the ATLs remain separate except for possible some inter-Des communicating and deja vu like flashes for some other LOSTies. IMO it is separate and I think TPTB may intend to keep it that way, except for the LOSTies thoughts/consciences.

Amy Lynn said...

memphish, I agree that something has to be up. They spent WAY too much time on killing Juliet over again if it wasn't going to seriously change something.

Unknown said...

Hi folks, feel I should intro myself or something since I've never been here, only LostARGs. Brain fried from premiere though! Might stay up late tonight to watch it again, I caught up to the live, my father was snoring through most of it, and the dog kept wanting to go out :P

ANYWAY HI

I'm not sure whether I feel validated or not that I guessed a couple of points in advance, like MIB = Smokey. Did note that the flashes were green in this ep.

Also noted "Ms. Paik" - seems they must be married, but did anyone confirm rings? Just in case :P Maybe Mr. Paik has TSA plants?

Hiroyuki Sanada was great, very old-school samurai. Was excited I might have more info than usual, but they translated almost everything XD Oh well he mutters a bit anyhow.

lost2010 said...

When Rachel told Juliet she was pregnant, wasn't that how she phrased it, "It worked." Or am I just trying to make it fit. lol

Kelly said...

Wow....I feel like I need a xanax to just fall asleep. So wired. Sensory overload for sure.

Welcome back L O S T !!!!!

Capcom said...

I refuse to read Bad Twin again. :-p

Just Thinking said...

Big change in my MIB/Smokey attitude. Before it seemed "he" might be a kind of harsh judge and may justifiably pissed off entity- but now he's just deadly and scary.

memphish said...

But the Losties on Island don't give a crap about their consciousnesses they are just trying to survive Craphole Island as usual.

Why is Flocke taking Richard with him? Is he an ash ring breaker?

Seriously going to bed now. I mean it.

Amy Lynn said...

@lost2010, good catch on Rachel/Juliet. That's just right.

Capcom said...

Maybe the timelines will converge eventually. Oy.

Tess315 said...

I don't think Juliet was pregnant, never have.
It worked. I think saying it worked meant they did reset. At least the did in another timeline.
Or it could mean that the plan Jacob had in place worked.

TheOtherLisa said...

Its been forever since I've been here- just love everyone's comments.

Someone said flashes of light in smoke monster- I'm finding this all very garden of eden where the bait was knowledge of good and evil. Making random biblical connections

Locke=inhabited by MIB (represents Evil/Satan) who can use the weak, etc..flashes of light= satan masquarades as an angel of light....

Ash= blood/forgiveness, protection from judgment

And- course correction- I think we've seen some of these scenes before almost verbatim... ex. Jack, performing CPR on Sayid... anyone think it smacked of performing CPR on Charlie after he was hung?

Loving this... too much to process, Sad about juliet, where is shannon... does Jack ultimately operate on Lock (to reflect after the car crash)... does everything that did happen, happen again as Eloise told Des seasons ago...have no ansers... but enjoy reading up on theories here!

ObFuSc8 said...

Capcom, the only thing is that physically the 2 ATLs cannot really converge (if WHH) and even in a multiverse model any change would split to any ATL, so...

Amused2bHere said...

Would you be satisfied knowing that your loved one survived (and was happy) in an alternate reality, or even if you knew that you were happier in another timeline, if it meant that you had to suffer in a parallel dimension?

my head hurts.

Dedjezter said...

greggrunberg on twitter...

This is Capt. Seth Norris, please fasten your seat belts, it's going to be a bumpy final season of LOST... and by bumpy I mean AWESOME!!

Just Thinking said...

The Alt reality has to have some meaning in "our" reality-so that will be the challenge to the writers.

Ange said...

Hi :D. E-mail. Missing everyone, glad Lost is back, and going to play catch-up with comments in the AM.

RamHatter said...

"They're coming." In 2007 and 2004? Are the characters from the ATL going to reconvene somehow to the island?

I did like the scene shared by Jack and Locke in the ATL. What happens if Jack fixes Locke? Is Locke then a man of science?

Just Thinking said...

Hi Anne!

Tess315 said...

lisa
Yeah I was thinking about when Jack was trying to save Charlie. But this time Kate actually gets him to stop.

TheOtherLisa said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Tess315 said...

Hi ange.

Just Thinking said...

You do have to wonder- what about Jack? at this point. So much trying to fix, so much not working. What will his role be now?

TheOtherLisa said...

Water wasn't clear = Jacob's blood?

Capcom said...

Agree Ob. What about time loops?

Hi Ange!!!

Tess315 said...

JT
I think his role will still be a fixer. That's why they wanted to have a private conversation with him.

Capcom said...

Jack's role = loser. :o)

Black Swan said...

Hey, Lisa.. good thoughts there. Definitely religious, predestination and free-will argument here. I think you'd enjoy reading this:
annotation if you don't mind a mild spoiler about what book somebody will be seen reading this season.

I definitely thought of Charlie being revived by Jack when they showed him with Sayid. That would be cool if Jack helps Locke, this mirroring saving Ben on the Island.

Roxanna said...

Hi everyone :)
I've never posted here, but I was around at LostARGs for some time during the hiatus. &everyone spoke great things about this community, so here I am :)

I am currently watching the episode again...and taking notes. I am not sure how I feel about the two time lines yet, but I'm sure it will work out somehow.

I think Miles knew that something was going on with Sayid at the end. His look was...interesting. Sayid is one of my favorite characters, so I hope he's alright.

Also, what does everyone think about the scar/bruise that Jack had on his neck at the beginning?

TheOtherLisa said...

And I love the parallel of ben to Sayid--- how fitting that sayid is the one who shot ben to require the healing.... and now is taken to the same place (innocence for innocence, eye for an eye??? I vote forgiveness... but I'm not the writers!)

Tess315 said...

capcom
Yeah I don't much like him either, but I think he will end up being the hero. :)

Capcom said...

Hi Roxanna! Yes, Jack's cut was odd.

RobPerrin said...

Season 5 started in first gear. Season 6 started in fifth!

Capcom said...

The Others want to give Jack a time out. But yes, I'm guessing he'll be a hero in the end.

TheOtherLisa said...

Hi Black Swan-
much thanks for link, haven't made up my mind about spoilers this season... but may consider...
I'm sure that theory has been passed around here a million times! i was here during the Hanso ARG- and I know that there's nothing new I can say to this group that hasn't been said! ;-)

Tess315 said...

I vote forgiveness too. ;)
Hi roxanna, Hi Rob
More like 6th gear.

Tess315 said...

Speaking of books. What was the one Montand reading?

Twinkle said...

It was all good. Splitting the timeline is was the right choice of all the options I could think of this summer.

Also when they said to take Sayid to the Temple, I figured that Jacob would resurrect himself in Sayid like Smokey did in Locke. Think it's likely?

Wish there was more though. One more big reveal (which led to more questions) would have been good.

lost2010 said...

I think they like their little stream metaphor (or is it a simile). . .

The timeline just got a massive boulder thrown into the middle of it just like Dan said.

But eventually, the water will flow past the boulder and converge again.

And it may or may not sort of bleed through onto each other like Jack's cut. . .

Okay, I'm sure I'll think it's something else tomorrow but that's my theory of the day. :)

Twinkle said...

Oh, I see! You all were on page 2! Yes, we're all thinking the same thing about Sayid. What name should we give him? I'll catch up and see if you've thought of any. Sayob or Jayid don't really roll off the tongue. I do like Flocke though!

Black Swan said...

Jack's bleeding on his neck reminded me of the nosebleeds when the left-behinders couldn't adjust to the time shifts.

Lisa, it's not real spoilery, just the book info, which you could skip.

I like the deeper spiritual layers they have obviously put into the show, but they aren't necessary to enjoy it.

LOL, Capcom.. giving Jack a time out!

Tess315 said...

Jacob had to really think about it before he decided to send Sayd to the temple. But he also seemed to know he would. Or at least he knew he would send the Losties to the temple since he gave Hurley the list.

Anonymous said...

Who was the guy in the cave with one arm? the smoke monster ripped off the other.

TheOtherLisa said...

Ok Blackswan, I read that annotation.
Scary stuff I think for real life. But in this fictional sense, pretty cool.

Who are these people who write this stuff??? really???
How many books did they read collectively??? that people exist who can create this... stuns me sometimes.

It better end well. ;-)

Tess315 said...

Montand one of Danielle's team.

lost2010 said...

Montand, I think.

Roxanna said...

The first thing I thought of when I saw Jack's cut was when Dan mentioned something like that in The Variable. Dan had gotten shot, but he said that he didn't have the scar on his neck when Jack saw him that morning.

Not sure about that though. still thinking...

Just Thinking said...

Thinking about how Sayid/Jacob might work- it is interesting that MIB knew what Locke was thinking as he died. At what point did he "become" Locke enough to know his mind and memories. MIB still holds some of Locke, so is able to bring him forward still. Maybe if we get Jayid- Sayid's story will go forward some. Perhaps giving his being and soul may help redeem some of the list of sins Sayid told Hurley. More meaning now to his question of what would happen to him when he died.

Just Thinking said...

Lost on Nightline now!

Burton said...

I think the Losties flashed to the "present" after the bomb. By present, i mean the same time period that Sun, Bram, Richard etc are in. If you look carefully, when Sawyer is ripping things out of the way to get to Juliet in the hatch crater, he clearly picks up Desmond's excercise bike from the hatch and chucks it aside. There is no way the bike would be there in 1977 since the hatch wasn't built. The second half confirmed my suspicions that the losties were back in present time because when the guy in the temple launched those flares, Richard saw them from the beach near the statue.

Tess315 said...

roxanna
I was thinking about the same thing. It was like Daniel's wound.

TheOtherLisa said...

Jacks neck--- compared to Dan's... excellent catch. Maybe whoever dropped the bomb had their neck shot/hurt... in one timeline it was Jack, in another it really was Dan... but whoever it was, that dropped the bomb... same wound.

Amused2bHere said...

Alana, that was Montand, from the French crew (Rousseau's gang).

Tim said...

Aaaaand I've returned to read TLC again. :) Hello again.

The stuff with the smoke monster, Richard and Jacob just fascinates me.

So the island was some kind of prison for "Esau" – and Richard was previously a rival, or even prisoner, of Esau.

Esau has been unable to do his will and get off the island because of Jacob's presence -- like he said, he just wants to go home.

Interesting tie-ins to Egyptology, again, though as always Egyptian mythology can be slippery:

"When Set fell from grace in the Egyptian pantheon, as a result of being favoured by the unpopular Hyksos rulers, he gradually took over the position of Apep, as the god of evil. With this change away from Apep, Taweret became seen only as the concubine of Set. She was seen as concubine rather than wife, as Set already was married to the extremely different goddess, Nephthys, to whom no parallels could be drawn. It then was said that Taweret had been an evil goddess, but changed her ways and held Set back on a chain."

And while I don't think we'll ever specifically see characters lined up with Egyptian gods, the writers are clearly aware of this stuff. So perhaps Esau loosely equals Set – and the statue of Taweret was part of the island being his prison, since she was the one who betrayed him and imprisoned him in the first place.

TheOtherLisa said...

Ok--- last comment then I have to quit or never sleep. Love the Sayid Ben connection---

perhaps- ben shot- water clear- loss of innocence
perhaps- sayid shot- water bloody/unclear- loss of guilt, cleansing and regain innocence

RobPerrin said...

Hi, SG. I really liked both the head Temple dude and his #2. Good actors.

Twinkle said...

memphish said: Why is Flocke taking Richard with him? Is he an ash ring breaker?

Probably as a negotiating tool since he knows they'll have the ash circle.

RE: Timelines reconverging - Yes, that makes sense. But they should reconverge in some sort of violent, jerky way starting out with little trickles until the flood into one another. Maye like what you might imagine how the parting of the Red Sea would have gone: Water piles on both sides which start to lose cohesion and then wham! Fish - I mean Fish Biscuits - flying everwhere!

Oh! Lost 2010 thought of something similar, only more Lost related. :-)

Dedjezter said...

Yes it was montand and Jin knew that from having been there when it happened.

Amy Lynn said...

It's a bummer that we still don't have Sun and Jin in the same time line and happy :(

Black Swan said...

Hey Lisa, if you liked that annotation there, leave a comment ok? I think it's brilliant, just haven't done it yet

RamHatter said...

I don't even believe what I'm about to say, just throwing it out there. What if by chance at the end of the episode they were taking Jack to see his dad?

Tess315 said...

Amy Lynn
Well hopefully they'll meet up soon. They're just on the other side of the island from each other. Instead if decades.

Black Swan said...

Oh, that would be so cool, RamHatter!

Twinkle said...

Ok, so supposing Jacob is now inhabiting Sayid's body? What's our name for him?

Sayob
Jayid
Jaykid

I got nothing.

Tess315 said...

I hate to do it but I've got to get to bed. Catch up with you guys tomorrow.

Burton said...

@Amy Lynn - Sun and Jin are in the same time line!! They just aren't together and happy yet. The fact that Richard sees the flares from the temple prove they are all in the same timeline now! I hope Jin and Sun get reunited soon!!

lost2010 said...
So, Jacob is water . . .and Flocke is smoke. . .

The water in Ben's cubby hole must have been to keep the smoke monster out - he wasn't summoning him - he was letting down the defense! (Maybe)

If you sink the island under the water - do you defeat Flocke in that timeline once and for all?

OK WOW.... IF THAT'S THE FINAL OUTCOME, THE FINAL SCENE OF THE WHOLE KIT AND KABOODLE, I WILL SAY I READ IT HERE FIRST ;-) I THINK THAT'S A GREAT THOUGHT!

lost2010 said...

LOL - and here I deleted it because I thought I wasn't making any sense.

Just Thinking said...

They highlighted "The Transmission" on Nightline and showed the prop room- no spoilers if you want to watch somewhere.

TheOtherLisa said...

Hey... maybe I don't make sense... want me to delete it ? (I would understand completely!)

lost2010 said...

No, don't delete Lisa - it just seems like there's sort of a smoke/water theme going on there somewhere. If it made sense to you maybe I explained what I meant. lol

Tim said...

Maybe we'll get "Smoke on the Water" in the next episode.

TheOtherLisa said...

We've had the fire in the sky, eh? ;-)

Twinkle said...

Nice catch on the smoke and water theme! Interesting that to keep the smoke out you use ash. What would you use to keep the water out?

ObFuSc8 said...

For those of you who played along with the DCaaPB ARG, the flame with the Ankh Hurley is shown holding in Stout's LOST poster now makes sense as a spoiler.

Just Thinking said...

Yes Ob 8- that's it from the poster.

I just ordered a Halliwax bobble head with a Jimmy Kimmel Dharma patch from ABC store- new tonight. Patch to the first 1000- Also Farady on sale?

RamHatter said...

Sayid being "resurrected" makes sense since the imagery of Christ and the crucifixion were there when they were bringing Sayid out of the water.

Roxanna said...

I didn't catch this the first time, partly because I was heartbroken about Sayid dying, but Sayid said, "When you die, what do you think will happen to me?" And it just adds more to that resurrection theme.

RamHatter said...

Sayid was saved in the temple, just like Ben was. Ben was there because he was shot by Sayid. Sayid was there because he was shot. And around and around we go again...

Scoutpost said...

I just finished...and first of all, all I want to say is- WHOA!!! It's gonna be a long night dissecting this one! So can't wait to go back and see what's already been said. I'll wait to comment then.

2nd- you know it's gonna be a long season when I'm already crying in the first episode! ugh.

Amy Lynn said...

So far, my two favorite snarks from other websites are

"Ankh if you love Jacob" and "Others at the Temple also work at the Medival Times restaurant?"

Just Thinking said...

I like that idea of Jack's neck bleeding being like the nosebleeds- a sign that something is out of whack. I think Jack is out of whack in this timeline, and it will get worse as things go on, until he has to "go back". Especially in the beginning, you feel that Jack knows there is something strange going on.

Hello everybody!!!

It seems like years and years since I've been on here. Whew! Time flies! I'm glad to see many familiar faces!

Right now I'm just checking in and saying hello... Here at my school, we have meetings we have to attend on Tuesday nights, so unfortunately I was not able to watch tonight. I actually don't think I'm going to be able to watch this season live at all, and without a way to record the episodes I'm going to resort to waiting to watch it online later in the week.

I'm hearing good things so far... I'll be sure to check back in here after I watch it!

Will said...

Go back in time. Kill your grandfather. You are never born. You never go back in time to kill your grandfather, so you are born. Yay for a paradox. But the LOST-universe corrects itself, so there is one timeline where you kill your grandfather and another where you don't.

MJCarp said...

Hi all. Posted links to HI pics at Lostargs. They are public and unedited which may change in a day or so. If you want original, email me.

Great epi. How does one sink an island?

ObFuSc8 said...

Will -- that is not my understanding of the way TT has been explained, at least so far, on LOST by TPTB.

A change like that you described to past events would indeed create paradox which is why there are different time travel "models" described not only in lOST, but with theoretical physics.

WHH is what we have been given, so far, by TPTB through Faraday. In a Novikovian model, you could not make these changes to the past timeline.

Multiverse or multiple worlds theories say that if you did travel back to the past and make a change, that would create an ATL, and that the change exists in this ATL.

With the 2 ATLs we are seeing at present, TPTB may simply be giving us 2 physically separate, but somewhat similar ATL's (for a purpose we have yet to see) where there may be some communication between counterparts.

The other possibility is that the ALT is what would have happened if indeed the Island was "sunken" in 1977, in which case it's not exactly WHH (except within the confines of our "usual timeline")

About Jack's cut and converging timelines . . . wondering about possibility that these are NOT parallel universes. Maybe we are seeing the beginning & the end concurrently, and then will see middle. I don't know, I'm going crazy with quantum physics related nonsense at the moment - which might lead somewhere . . .

BTW one JP line they did not translate; would have to listen again to be certain, but when asked about the muddy water he said that he didn't know why it had happened. Probably obvious from context but hey :P

@Ob oh snap glad you said something, didn't even check D: 2hrs coverage? x_x I get politics being important but . . .

Bobbleheads are here btw Oh man I totally want all three D:

Black Swan said...

Anne, I'm not convinced these are parallel universes either.

I wonder if Sayid coming back to life and the 'something' that is inhabiting his body now may be just the fact that he showed his deep regrets and worry about his past sins as he was thinking he was going to die, so he got a second chance.. this time to fulfill his 'destiny'?

I think the most interesting thing in the whole first hour is Jack's bleeding at the neck. This 'flight 815' had the same unreal quality and the weird feeling that the previous 'time travel' scenerios had. And if we remember back to season 5, it's not the Losties who are not in their own timeline, it's the backgrounds of where they are. That's why this airplane scenerio going on at what we are thinking is the same time could be really misleading us. It could be a flashback or flashforward or maybe even something else entirely.

Just Thinking said...

Must go too- hi to West Coasters when they come over. Thanks for a fun premier night Locos!

RamHatter said...

Hey everyone, I'm off to bed. It's great to read what others think, and post my own thoughts as well.

I posted some detailed thoughts, and theories, on my blog about the season premiere. Let me know what you think. http://ramhatter.blogspot.com/2010/02/lost-s6e1-thoughts.html

Looking forward to season 6 with The Lost Community!

Kevin said...

I dont think Jacob is Sayid. Smokey didnt take over Lockes body, he copied him, the dead locke was still there.

Scoutpost said...

Agree MadHatter...there is a difference there. And Darlton just said on Kimmel that Locke is not possessed by the MIB/Smokey. So it's semantics in a way (although the whole show deals in semantics), so you have to wonder there about Sayid.

maven said...

Just played catch-up rather quickly...so excited to see so many familiar "faces" from past seasons as well as LostArg people! Usually, when I finish, most people are off to bed, except for a few (hi Scoutpost).

Here are my first thoughts:
Jack is definitely bewildered about things on the 815 flight.

So when were the Mr. Cluck's commercials made with Hurley and an Aussie accent? He didn't feel he was so lucky when he went to Australia.

Not a happy ending for everyone when they get off that flight.

Come on...no women in the Ladies Room after a 14 hours flight from Australia! Not reality! LOL

Well, it does seem that Cindy was an Other on the plane.

Did they call Sun Ms. Paik only because of the letterhead of Paik Industries?

Was the water "not clear" because Jacob was dead?

Funny to hear Hurley making business deals as he waits for taxi.

When Sawyer is brought into the Temple and says "Where are we?" it reminded me of Charlie's famous line.

So MIB could read Locke's last thoughts...spooky.

Is MIB stuck on island or is the Temple he wants to go home to?

Everyone has great initial ideas...I, too, need to sleep on this. So great to be in this discussion mode again!

I was waiting for Nightline, and JKL but am going to have to get some sleep.

I posted a few rather LONG posts at the ABC.com boards -- not sure if you want me to go on and on here.

Maven -- not only is the water in the Stream st the Temple not clear, but Hiroyuki Sanada purposely cuts his hand and them immerses it in the Stream. When he removes his hand, nothing has happened, the cut is still there and bleeding. I think this was his way to test the Stream, it's healing qualities perhaps gone because of Jacob's death?

Carol Dunstan said...

OK, I've watched and caught up on the reading!

First thing I noticed: Bernard looks rather pasty-white, like he's the one who is sick.

The on island stuff does seem to be a mish-mash of time... Like Burton said, the exercise bike shouldn't have been amongst the rubble. They hadn't finished construction so they wouldn't have started putting stuff in it yet.

I totally thought the water was murky because Jacob was dead. And also though the Temple Other's leader's cut hand didn't seem to heal, he put Sayid in anyway. I had thought that Jacob had told them to take Sayid to the temple so he had a body to inhabit but I don't really think that is his way... that's more of a smokey thing (could there be two smokeys?). I could believe Sayid was dead, hopes raised when Miles was looking at his body funny, not sure what to make of Sayid rising again. Maybe Juliet is possessing Sayid? mwahahaha!

Jack seems to be the only one in the "alt" plane landed timeline that notices anything odd... it's like he has a tenuous connection to what is going on - and has gone on - on the island.

Something else I thought was odd, Desmond disappearing. Sure, he could have gone back to his seat, but I got the feelign that noone else noticed him. And as soon as Charlie was saved ("I was supposed to die"... did Jack just screw things up again?) Desmond disappeared. Dunno, it just stood out to me.

But Juliet saying "it worked"? Maybe it worked how it was supposed to but not how they expected it to. Like others have said, it worked to set things up for the final war.

That's my thoughts so far, will go back and check on Montards book

Carol Dunstan said...

ok, I think the book was by Soren Kierkegaard

PS regarding Christian Shepherd's coffin "it appears it was never put on the plane"... looks can be deceiving! I bet the coffin, and Christian, are on the island.

Greetings all, first post here. Hope you dont mind me chiming in with a few first impressions from tonight...

I was really glad to see details from earlier seasons being followed through with : e.g. Cindy, Emma and Zach.

The one thing that really bothered me about this episode was if they were going to bring Sayid to be healed, why not at least try the same with Juliet(yes, even though she is dead and not 'close to'...)? Instead of burying her in some meaningless spot on the side of a road...?

My top theory now is that since last season was dedicated to time travel, a significant part of this season will be dedicated to "course correcting," and convergence of two timelines, as has already started in this ep. Gradually the universe will find a way to bring all players to where they are supposed to be, leading perhaps to a payoff later, where we actually witness the two timelines converging.

Smoke Monster - I think I now see that whenever he has "sized up" someone, it has been an evaluation of whether that particular person was an asset or a hindrance to his(MIB) plan. Therefore: Locke lives, Eko dies (Smokie must have decided he was a threat somehow) .

Carol Dunstan said...

hi Midday Shadows! Don't mind you chiming in at all, I was feeling rather lonely!

I had also meant to mention taking Juliet to be healed. Maybe they didn't think of it because she was already dead whent hey got her out. whereas both Ben and Sayid were still alive.

The closest Kierkegaard book title I have come across so far (taking into account translation to French) is Fear and Trembling, however the first word doesn't appear to be "peur" that a translation sight gave me for fear.

so hurley is a business man now?

these flash fowards are going to be interesting to watch.. a little sad to see how their stories are going to be after the plane doesnt crash.. a little depressing if you ask me

i do believe that MIB wants to get to the temple

and it seems like we got the majority of questions answered in this episode

Carol Dunstan said...

just finished reading about Fear and Trembling and there is already a note at the bottom that it was shown on LOST, lol... it is certainly a book that would fit in with LOST, will have to mull it all over more :)

@ Weinbeeezy I don't know if they are flash forwards or not. My thinking was there was now two sets of losties- one on the island and one in the plane. Like they were running in parallel. dang this 5 hours of sleep is killer but worth it !

yeah that makes sense. i was also thinking theyre just showing us what could have happened... season might end with all of them somehow connecting in a different way?

There's part of my brain, after sleeping on it, that's mulling over alternate timelines and 'the island as a cosmic jail' with Jacob as MIB's jailer. . . sorts of theories.

And the other part of my brain that just wants to shut down and watch Kate escape, Jack fix Locke's legs, Sun and Jin find happiness together in America, and on and on. . .

And for the moment at least I guess we get both worlds. . .

It's interesting that Christian's casket goes missing in both timelines. I can't decide if I think that it doesn't exist in the second timeline because that's fake or what. We haven't heard that Darlton are tremendous fans of 'It's a Wonderful Life' have we?

memphish said...

Good morning LoCos! So glad to see so many new folks chiming in. The more the merrier so long as we keep it pleasant and spoiler-free. Just so you know I'm always wrong about everything but like to try out theories nevertheless. Here goes!

I think the comment Flocke made to Richard about being in chains may have to do with the Black Rock crash. I think Richard was a slave on the ship and that Smokey inhabited the body of someone else on the ship. I read or heard this somewhere, but I agree with it that Smokey needs a body and so the guy we saw in the Season 5 finale was just the body of the week so to speak as Locke is now and as Yemi has been and Alex and Christian. I don't know how exactly to reconcile that with whatever Darlton said on Nightline, but for now I'm sticking with it.

Which brings me to why the Others want to talk to Jack. I figure it's some question about Christian. Maybe the Others even have his body from the coffin from 2004.

I can't figure out what the deal is with Jack's cut on the airplane. I like the idea that it has to do with some Island injury, but the one we saw him get was getting banged on the back of the head at the Swan or the punches all over his face from his fight with Sawyer. The neck thing didn't ring right to me.

I like what you said JT about Jack being out of whack. I've been hoping for a Jake from the Dark Tower like experience for a while now. I guess that's a solution to the convergence problem, but it's not parallel given the number of bodies in each timeline. And now that I use the word convergence, I'm reminded that "Everything That Rises Must Converge." :-)

Did anyone check the shark at the opening for the Dharma logo? Was it Ezra J.? And if so that would mean the Island sank when the bomb went off right?

I like all the religious references both Christian and Egyptian. The thing the pool reminded me of was a pool at the Temple in Jerusalem where allegedly one person a day, the first person in it, would be healed.

If Jacob is in Sayid I vote for Jayid.

Good observation about Fire and Water Lost2010. Only thing it leaves me with is "I'm melting, melting" by Flocke at the end.

memphish said...

It is the Dharma shark.

I know, Rose said she was asleep but it was strange. At first I thought Des had been taken off the plane in the turbulence to the island. But that doesn’t fit. Not sure what to think of that right now. Thanks for the link to the book.

Smoke Monster - I think I now see that whenever he has "sized up" someone, it has been an evaluation of whether that particular person was an asset or a hindrance to his(MIB) plan. Therefore: Locke lives, Eko dies (Smokie must have decided he was a threat somehow) .

I agree. Eko wasn’t afraid of Smokey and seen him for who he was.
Thanks for your link to Midday.

Memphish
I agree that Richard probably came on the Black Rock. Not sure Smokey needs to inhabit a body. Jacob and MIB at the start of Season 5 were watching the Black Rock I assume. MIB wasn’t to happy that Jacob had brought them there. I’m not sure what happened, but I don’t think it was pleasant. And I think Richard was caught up in the middle of it/them.
Although I may need to watch Nightline and Kimmel to see if I change my mind.

The first time someone used converge last night I thought the same thing. “Everything That Rises Must Converge.”

I still need to do a rewatch. I was wondering if that was Ezra J. Sharington too memephish but wasn't quick enough to see.

It almost seems like Jack was the only one who traveled through time. That the people he interacted with on the island were in a different universe. That's why no one else remembers or has deja vu.

Just Thinking said...

About MIB- I think it's interesting that we still do not know his name. We know he is Smokey, we know he is "an old friend who got tired of my company" to Jacob, but no name.

Maybe the Temple is home for him- but I got the feeling it was somewhere/somewhen else. He can already go under the Temple if not in, and somehow the idea of "going home" implies a further journey.

Good morning!

Tess315 said...

I don't remember who but someone asked last night what Spin was.
During the Lost Underground Art Project clues were given to locations to find urls that had a Lost inspired print for sale.

One of the locations was Spin a ping pong "night club" in NY owned by Susan Sarandon. The clues said to look closely at the video playing there. The Japanese character from the temple last night was one of the flashed images in the video.

As far as we know Amy Lynn is the only one we recorded it.

Tess315 said...

Hi JT
I was thinking last night that if the temple isn't MIB's home then maybe a different timeline. Maybe that's why all this course correcting is going on. Every time MIB tries to get home time corrects it's self.

It seems odd that Smokey is called the security system for the island but the people at the temple are afraid of it. Of course it was probably a lie that MiB told the French crew.

Doc Jensen interviews Darlton. Interesting stuff about the story-telling style, i.e. what the heck is going on on non-crashing 815.

morning all, i can already tell this will be a non productive day at work.

at first i thought jacob took over sayid. but then if the note said if sayid dies we are all in trouble i took that as the temple is broken and cant heal people. but the way the temple master said your friend is dead makes me think sayid will definately have some side effects.

juliets "it worked" i thought she was talking about the bomb reset. but she may actually still meet sawyer in that alt reality. when she talked about the coffee and going dutch. sawyer thought she didnt know who he was but i think she did. or i could just be a hopeless romantic hoping that they somehow end up together.

More MIB- he must want to get to the Temple though, since they are trying to keep him out. Maybe that is the gateway to "home". What if the pool of water keeps him from passing, like the water under the barracks seemed to contain him? Maybe if he can drain the pool he can escape.

Hey Capcom
Remember that red tapestry that had the slaves on it? I'm not sure where it came from. But I think that is what's on the floor when MIB rips off a piece to clean his knife. I wonder if he's the one who wove it? Or if Jacob wove it but it was during MIB's reign.

Capcom said...

Morning LoCos! Lost hangover.

Right SG! I wonder if Lostpedia will be able to get any caps of it. They seemed to be walking all over it last night. :-o

OK, going to back-read the comments now.

Amy Lynn said...

Interesting things that Lostpedia caught that I didn't:

Sayid's passport, shown at LAX, is an Iranian passport instead of being Iraqi.

This is the first season premier since the Pilot where Jin actually appears with speaking lines. He did not appear in season 2,3 and 5's opening episodes, and had no lines in season 4's opener, making him the only original cast member credited in all seasons to appear the least in season premiers.

Capcom said...

Great thoughts everyone!

Twinkle, I think that Sayidsgirl would like to see some naykid Jaykid, heheh.

You could fight water-Jacob with a shop vac **buhdumpshhhhh**

I took that Darlton meant last night about Locke not being possessed as implying that you'd have to be alive to be possessed, and MIB has actually taken his form. So the answer was no, Locke's not possessed. Dumb question on Kimmel's part I thought.

Interesting observation about Bernard Carol.

It was funny what they were saying about Kierkegaard last night X-D

Wow, I finally got through all the comments. Really good stuff.

What did everyone think about the conversation between Locke and Jack at the airport re:Jack's dad. Locke had and interesting line that seemed like a hint/foreshadowing that went something like "They didn't lose your father, they just lost his body."

I took it to mean that there is a separation between the body and the mind/soul. At some point, the two are linked, but they may be separated (ie by death), and that the two ALTs we're experiencing may be some form of body/mind separation.

Personally I don't care for the multiverse theory. It seems like a cop-out to me. But then, I'm a man of faith, not of science ;)

All shades of Awesome. Seems like there is some kind of split timelines going on there (Well, we've had flashbacks and flashforwards, now flashsideways). I always thought Ricardos was from the slave ship.

That's all for now. Good to be back. Heartbreaking it's for the last time though.

Hey everyone! Long time no see. Still working my way through the comments, but man oh man, Lost S6 is off to a great start.

http://www.tvverdict.com/2010/02/03/lost-6-1-6-2-la-x-parts-1-2/

(P.S. Just re-read my comment and it sounds kind of spammy. It's not, I swear!)

Fenris said...

Not caught up, but just thinking.

Without the Island there would be no need for Widmore and Hawkin to manipulate Desmond to be on the island. Therefore Desmond wouldn't have been training at the stadium where he met Jack, which is why Jack didn't remember him. Assuming Jack's curiosity to be more of a link to the parallel time then poor memory.

Hi Sayid'sGirl

memphish said...

One of the things I've been thinking about all off season was if the bomb did create a reset how far back would it go. Would it go back to 1977? If so maybe Des and Penny never even met. Did anyone check and see if he had a wedding ring on? I heard on Jay and Jack that Des was reading The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie.

Amy Lynn said...

Jay and Jack had bad info. Des was reading "Haroun and the Sea of Stories" by Salman Rushdie, published in 1991.

maven said...

Morning all with a major Lost hangover! Great conversations at TLC with old and new friends!

Some thoughts/questions:
When Montand was dragged into the opening at the Temple wall, Smokie/MIB had access to that area. So why do the Temple people fear Smokie/MIB coming now and are laying down the ash if it/he has been part of the Temple before? I realize that they learned that Jacob has been killed by MIB now and that they believe he is dangerous now. They sure had a ready supply of ash, didn't they?

I definitely think that Desmond disappearing on the plane about the same time Charlie's attempt at dying happened was not coincidence.

Thanks for the pic of the Dharma Shark, Memphish! That was my first thought, too, when I saw it swim by! :)

My first thought re Flocke to Richard saying he was free of his chains was he was a slave on the Black Rock. But hubby pointed out that he must have been referring to being free of his chain of devotion to Jacob. Flocke basically said the same to Bram and his crew...telling them they didn't need to be Jacob's bodyguards anymore and they are free.

I really like the idea that these 2 time lines will somehow converge eventually.

And I vote for Fayid. And Jacob sure had a strange way of sending messages to his Temple leader...inside the Ankh, inside the guitar case that went through different time lines.

Dennis said...

Hey Everyone! Great episode. Going to catch up on comments now...

memphish said...

I wonder if Paul's ankh is how Ethan and possibly Amy/Amelia ended up as Others. Did Jacob always send his lists inside other items?

Oh and thanks AmyLynn for the book correction. I think I've reached my limit on LOST books, but it's good to get it right.

Tess315 said...

maven
Your hubby has a good thought and it probably applies to Bram. But I still think Richard was a slave on the Black Rock.
Have you seen the red tapestry that eyemsick had on their blog?
It had slaves in chains and other disturbing images on it.
I think that was what was on the statue floor that MIB cleaned his knife on.

Do you think we're going to follow both timelines through all of season 6? I hope not. I'm hoping that the airplane scenes were just to show that the reset worked in that timeline.

Amy Lynn said...

SG, yes, according to Darlton, the Flash Sideways are their new narrative of storytelling for the season.

Fenris said...

Anyone else think that Sawyer may try and con Hurley. After all it seems entirely possible Sawyer hasn't killed his real target in the alt timeline. So that means he's still a confidence trickster.

Amy Lynn said...

@Fenris, we actually don't know anything about Sawyer in this timeline.

I think a lot of people are confusing the ALT universe for a reset. Two very different things.

Fenris said...

Maven - While I see the metaphor in the chains, it is what made Richard realize who he was. That makes me think it does relate to actual chains. Maybe the ship. But maybe not. At the moment I'm swaying towards slave ship.

As for Smokey Vs The Temple Others, I reckon that Smokey couldn't harm them (there at least) while Jacob was around as Jacob protects them (wasn't that part of the "Shadow of the Temple" response? That which protects us, or something like that.

Amy Lynn said...

Maven, yes, Fenris is right. The NinjaOthers had no need to be afraid of Esau while Jacob was alive.

Tess315 said...

I understand the other timeline/universe it's not confusing to me. I'm just not sure following it all season will be interesting.

Fenris
I was thinking the same thing. Sawyer seemed to be following Hurley.

Amy Lynn
I think there may be subtle changes but I don't think they'd change their personalities completely. But I could be wrong.

Fenris said...

Amy - That is why I said "It seems entirely possible". Your right we don't know anything, but it does seem possible. If the changes to the alt timeline go back further it could be that Sawyers parents are still alive and therefore he isn't a confidence trickster.

But if he is still one, could he resist that big a target? (I mean rich and apparently nice, which for a con man probably means gullible).

Weinbeeezy said...

@Maven it appears that Jacob had a way of stopping MIB, so with Jacob out of the picture, there is nobody to protect them?

Tess315 said...

I guess I'm the only one who thinks the other timeline/universe of the airplane was created by the detonation of the bomb.

Amy Lynn said...

SG, I don't disagree with you, necessarily. I just don't think it's a reset. There are too many differences.

Fenris said...

Sayid'sgirl - I'm with you on that. Well, I don't know quite what happened because of it, but I am fairly content to believe it was because of the bomb. It's not 100% for me, but it seems most likely.

Dennis said...

Young Wallace said... What did everyone think about the conversation between Locke and Jack at the airport re:Jack's dad. Locke had and interesting line that seemed like a hint/foreshadowing that went something like "They didn't lose your father, they just lost his body."

I took it to mean that Jack could go ahead and have the funeral and not worry about the actual body being there.

Dennis said...

Amy Lynn said... SG, I don't disagree with you, necessarily. I just don't think it's a reset. There are too many differences.

I think that's because of when the reset took place. There were 30 years of stuff that happened between been the bomb exploding and when Desmond crashed 815. The butterfly effect of their actions cause many things to be different in that time.

If they had just time traveled to Sept 2004 and made sure Desmond pushed the button (or blown up the hatch at that time), I think it would have been an identical reset.

Tess315 said...

Amy Lynn
For it to be a reset wouldn't have to have differences? Otherwise wouldn't they repeat what they'd already done?

Amy Lynn said...

@Dennis, yes, that makes sense to me (1977 re-set).

Martyn said...

Finally watched the episode after hours of d/ling, but in my defence, didn't wake up until 3 in the afternoon. Not good.

Going to read all the comments now, and try to catch up.

BTW, anyone who hasn't met me before, i'm Martyn, a lostARGs import! Nice to meet you all!

Tess315 said...

There's probably a little more going on than reset or no reset.

I'm not that informed about the butterfly effect honestly. But you'd think it would only effect events around you not who you become. Sawyer's parents were already dead in 1977 and he was alreay angry. How would the bomb change him? Jack's experiences with his dad were through out his whole life. How would the bomb change that? On so on.

But I get what you're saying and I don't completely disagree.

memphish said...

So the more I think about the less I like this alternate reality.

But first, here's what I'm thinking about what happened. Bomb goes off in 1977 concurrently with a time flash. As a result Island sinks killing all those On Island except for our crew who flashed. The Island is sunk in timeline B, DI dies and Others die. I don't know how a sunk Island would affect Richard, Jacob and Smokey. So now we have timeline B where little Jack, Kate, James, etc. grow up, do stuff such as Hurley winning the lottery and Kate blowing up her stepfather's employee and Jack becoming a doctor and Christian dying, and eventually they all end up in Sydney and fly back to LA on Oceanic 815 and land in LA on Sept 24, 2004. Exactly how much or how little these people are like the ones we've come to know in the last 5 years is one of the things that remains to be revealed. As someone pointed out on Jay and Jack, we don't even know if Claire is pregnant.

So Timeline B where Desmond doesn't have an Island to go to progresses on from LAX from 9/22/04 onward for every character we ever saw on the Island that came to the Island after the date of the bomb.

Meanwhile back in Timeline A the living flashing Losties are flashed back into 2007 where we also find 2 groups of Others and the Ajira survivors. And now the war is on between Smokey and everyone else left on the Island. I guess the war is about Smokey returning home (maybe Henry Gale's balloon will do the trick or he should click his heels together.)

And this is the thing that has me unhappy with the story. Detonating the bomb in Timeline A affected Timeline B, created it even you might say, but it didn't seem to have any consequences in Timeline A itself. And there's been nothing to show us how anything in Timeline B might affect Timeline A in any way at all. In my mind, at this point, the only timeline that matters is Timeline A. Even Jack's deja vu in Timeline B is presumably because of actions taken in Timeline A. And so it's feeling like Fan Fiction to me. Unless and until Timeline B can somehow affect Timeline A I can enjoy Timeline B, but I can't see any reason to invest in it.
