Comic Con 2009!

This is it, everyone - the final Comic Con to feature Lost!

Our very own maven and scoutpost will be in attendance this year, so get your questions posted now... they're hatching a plan that involves Team Darlton, a stalled elevator and some of Sayid's bamboo shoots, I believe.

You can follow their adventures here, and on maven's blog.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT COMIC CON WILL BE DISCUSSED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION OF THIS POST - IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO KNOW ANY SPOILERS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN GIVEN AWAY AT COMIC CON, PROCEED NO FURTHER.

Also, for the book clubbers out there - podcasts are a bit stalled at the moment, but the new list for the 2009 - 2010 hiatus is now posted. Bust out those library cards!

Claire is here to represent all unanswered questions. Where IS she?

Maven and Scoutpost have a great time! And get a question in there from TLC.

In rewatching I'm getting an even stronger Dark Tower vibe from the series. I won't spoil DT, but I've a feeling that beams may be at issue.

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - I like your thought about the beams. I'm curious to see if the end of Lost is at all like the end of DT.

I think I've decided to re-watch. I'm going to start earlier this year, though, so I have time to spread the episodes out more.

Ellen said...

Hi ya'll! Just checkin' in for email!
xxoo

memphish said...

The thing about rewatching is you'll find yourself doing it in spurts. Just like potato chips it's hard to watch just one episode of LOST. :-)

Dark Tower below -- don't read if you don't want to know, though I'll try to be vague --

There are parts like Miles' visit to the grandmother where the picture frames change; Dan crying; Desmond's vision of Claire and Aaron on the helicopter, that make me think of when Roland and Eddie went to visit the man in Maine. I'm getting strong vibes that there are other/more worlds than these, but that there is also a true world.

Capcom said...

Great post image choice Melissa!

Those DT similarities are intriguing. I haven't read DT.

Unknown said...

The thing about Lost's unsolved mysteries like claire is that we know the producers couldn't stop things like claire leaving. So maybe claire will end up the black hole in the continuality of lost. I hope not, claire's dissapearence is thing i want to see solved most.

Capcom said...

Robert, do you mean Claire leaving (the show) as in Eko leaving? :-o

Melissa_Lossa said...

DT spoiler below.... Seriously, if you haven't read the series and plan to, do NOT read this.

I loved how we get the idea that Roland will succeed this time because of the Horn of Eld - that he has finally realized what's important. I imagine he won't even go to the tower on the last go-around, because he saves the world(s) long before he reaches it.

That's what I wonder about Lost - is there one thing that they need to do to set everything right? Is Jacob touching everyone part of that?

end spoiler

Beverly said...

It was my understanding that Claire didn't leave. She was put on hiatus and will be back in season 6. Unless something has changed recently.

memphish said...

That was my understanding as well LostIt. The producers cut her loose for S5 but had contracted her for S6.

Beverly said...

I just saw an ad for the movie "The Time Traveler's Wife" starting August 14.

Capcom said...

That's very interesting abouty DT Memphish!

I heard that Emily DR and her husband were having a baby, so TPTB let her off for now. Don't know if that's true, only saw it once and I can't remember if it was a reliable source.

I think that The Time Travler's Wife preview looks pretty good.

Zort70 said...

I'm convinced that Claire will be back in the final series, how pivotal she will be I'm not sure.

In unrelated news, I just saw an article on the BBC news website that Futurama may be back without the original voice artists ! I can't even begin to imagine how bad that would be.

Zort70 said...

I've also put a post about Comic Con and a link to Mavens blog on the www.lostargs.com blog.

Amused2bHere said...

I saw several previews for The Time Traveler's Wife, and it looks really good. I did not read the book, but after all that has been said about it I am looking forward to the movie.

As for Dark Tower, I think I'm going to make it a project for the Fall. Thanks to all who gave spoiler warnings. ;)

I wonder what mysteries Darlton will choose to leave unsolved at the end of Lost? I hope whatever they are, it will still be a satisfying ending.

memphish said...

Did TPTB ever confirm one way or another that Harper was real when she appeared in the jungle to Juliet? After the S5 finale I'm wondering if she's black (or white) smoke since she claims to speak for Ben (which makes no sense) and since she wants Juliet to do the killing for her like Man in Black/Flocke got Ben to do.

maven said...

Thanks, Zort, for the link!

Well, I think Scoutpost and I will be in for the time of our lives....Here's a interview with Darlton about what to "expect" at Comic Con (courtesy of SpoilerTV).

I sure hope Scoutpost and I can be good reporters for you guys!

Capcom said...

You know that we are also looking forward to pix of the two of you on-site! :-D

TakesaVillage said...

I know you'll have a great time at Comic-Con Maven, and Scoutpost. We will all be glued to our monitors.

lost2010 said...

Have you looked at ABC's fall lineup? A couple or three of those actually look pretty good. - V, The Forgotten, The Middle. . . On the other hand FlashForward looks like a blatant Lost knockoff.

memphish said...

And V comes out midseason, though they are screening it at ComicCon. It's also my understanding that they've only ordered 6 episodes of it.

Flash Forward is actually based on a book by the same title. I haven't read it, but the marketing is clearly aimed at LOST fans.

lost2010 said...

Has anyone read the book? Is it supposed to be any good?

Zort70 said...

Has anyone seen the Lovefilm.com poll for the most addictive TV show ?

Lost comes in at a respectable number 2 -

1. 24 - 19 per cent

2. Lost - 17 per cent

3. Friends - 10 per cent

4. Heroes - 9 per cent

5. The Wire - 7 per cent

6. Dr Who - 6 per cent

7. CSI - 5 per cent

8. Prison Break - 4 per cent

9. The Sopranos - 3 per cent

10. Sex and the City - 2 per cent

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey, zort - I heard that about the Futurama actors, too! Not sure what to think, but Mr. Mel saw some speculation online that it was a stunt for Comic Con. Let's hope so!

And spoiler, about Claire:

YES. She is confirmed to be back as a series regular for season 6 - we just don't know in what capacity.

end

Capcom said...

Great list Zort, and YAY for The Doctor!! :-D

I read on the I Watch Stuff blog that the Futurama problem may just be how Fox also dealt with the Simpsons actors asking for raises, and that the Futurama peeps are asking for more too. So it's the old Hollywood game of salary bargaining. Let's hope so, Futurama would definitely not be the same without the originals.

Zort70 said...

Capcom, I hacve heard rumour that there will be an announcement at Comic Con for a Doctor movie.

So Maven, Scoutpost, can you keep a small eye out for Doctor Who news as well :-)

Mellisa, I had heard that too and I'm happy about that as there are still quite a few unanswered questions there.

Ellen said...

Is anyone else watching Torchwood: Children of Earth? Are you feeling decidedly underwhelmed?

I actually dosed off during part three last night - I'll have to watch the last 20 minutes again.

Zort - have you seen it? Does it pick up at the end?

Capcom said...

Has anyone here seen this yet? * Lost University * Greg over at EyeMSick posted it.

That's neat news about a Doc Who movie Zort! Has the new season with the new Doc aired in the UK yet? If so, how is the new actor doing? Tx. :-)

memphish said...

Check out Lost ARGs Capcom.

Capcom said...

Oops, sorry. :-B

Gotta remember to check LostARGs in the morning now too!

maven said...

Packed and on my way down south to San Diego and Comic Con!!!! Finally!!!!!

Zort70 said...

Torchwood Children of Earth has a very powerful ending, but it isn't what you might expect (or want).

Are you seeing it over 5 consecutive nights ?

It is very like classic British SciFi from a long time ago in it's structure and tone. Not really the same as the all action effects filled blockbuster we are used to these days.

Zort70 said...

Capcom, no new series yet, there are three more specials this year leading up to the regeneration.

A few pictures were recently published of Mat Smith in his new costume, and he looks a bit like Jerry Lewis in the Nutty Professor.

Capcom said...

I like classic Brit SciFis a lot, I grew up on them. Too bad I can't watch Torchwood.

Tx Zort! Heheh, as much as I liked Jerry Lewis' original Nutty Prof, I don't know what to think about that! Maybe his female partner this time will look like Stella Stevens, in keeping with the theme.

:o)

I will be at the Comic-Con lost panel tomorrow. Twitter totengraber.

memphish said...

Look who got tweeted about by Whitney of USA Today's Pop Candy. Way to go Maven!

memphish said...

I'm not sure what we want to do about the Comic Con panel vis a vis spoilers. Maybe Melissa_Lossa could make a Comic Con post over at TLC or we could make one here where we could discuss what happened and those who want to avoid can avoid. If you want to see some of what happened at the panel, here's the Oceanic Ad that aired. Here's the Mr. Cluck's ad. Here's a Nestor Carbonell interview. Audio is not great.

Tess315 said...

I moved this from LostARGS since this is where anything Comic Con will be dicussed.

7) Question regarding Richard Flashback!!

CC confirms his backstory and we will see quite a bit of him. DL: FB will be see and is fairly involved

I can't wait to see this!

Yeah, RA backstory! Bring it on!

Just made it home, gang! Tired, but happy! Hope you all enjoyed our little travelogue!

Scoutpost said...

Hey guys! Thanks for all the support and well wishes. I didn't post anything on our blog that would be spoiler type material. So let me/Maven know how you want to handle that...if you haven't watched any of the videos. Of course you KNOW that Darlton didn't give out much info, they never do. But they did give clues about what we'll see in S6. I know you've probably heard some of them, and even saw some listing of them here already. So, just let me know what/where to post the mild spoiler stuff.

Scoutpost said...

Also, we went to the V and Flash Forward panels. V is going to have Elizabeth Mitchell and FF is going to have Sonya Walger and Dominic in it. We got to see the whole pilot episode of V and about the first 15 minutes of FF. They both look to be very good. FF especially seems geared to fill the void that LOST will leave.

Scoutpost said...

Hey ya'll you should check out JOpinionated's blog. She did an excellent recap of the panel.

JOpinionated

Also, was reading some of the ODI's posts. Totally forgot about the new s6 logo/banner. This was really cool:

S6 banner

the banner would reveal 1 cast member at a time until all the spaces were filled in and Locke was revealed in the middle. Everybody was on it from S1 to S6- Boone, Shannon, Libby, Mr. Eko, etc....!

Zort70 said...

It also says ion that post that Locke is facing backwards.

memphish said...

Maven made Pop Candy again!

Unknown said...

sorry have been away. I try not to spoil myself with lost and take it as it comes, i had assumed that claire chose to leave the show. What with desmonds visions not coming true, and the way she just dissapeared it all seemed rather rushed. Excellent news to hear she is back as a regular for season 6!

I know this was a while ago now, but i had the same thought about Torchwood COE Zort70. Very classic sci fi in tone and the way it's done. I couldn't get the ending out of my head for ages.

Capcom -- Season 1 "White Rabbit." He'd been waiting for that birthday wish for 4 years. Sayid and Kate had followed Sawyer into the jungle thinking he had stolen the water.

Capcom said...

Thanks Memphish! I knew that you could come through for me! :-D So does anyone still think that his comment could be related to a timeline reboot or something like that? I can't even really remember what was speculated about it at this point. Too much information after S5, oy.

Maven, be sure to capture and post some stills of your ABC quilt interview on your Lost quilt blog!

Scoutpost said...

This is totally NOT Lost related, but just occurred to me...

Flash Forward- ABC's new show that has got me REALLY excited and that seems to be something LOST fans would gravitate to- is slated for Thurs. nights (don't know what time slot)...and if I remember correctly, the Fringe producers announced in their panel that Fringe is moving to Thursday nights this fall...so how much you wanna bet that the two shows will go head to head? I need to confirm that, but dang, I will be really upset if I have to choose, and I hate that either will be taking ratings away from the other.

Ok sorry, back to LOST now...

Scoutpost said...

Ok...just confirmed Fringe IS going to Thursday according to Dennis' blog. Probably going up against The Office, too. Darn it, why is everything ending up on Thurs? oh well, my first love is still on Wed. :)

Capcom said...

Crud, I think that I still won't be able to watch The Mentalist now when Fringe is on, even after it moved off of Tuesdays. That's really bad to have the new show on with Fringe as well. Tx for the info SG. At least we'll have a new show to talk about so we can still all be friends even after Lost is over!

:-D

Twinkle said...

Thanks for the link to the Lost panel video on your blog, Maven. Did anyone go to that guy's website damoncarltonandapolarbear.com? Evidently "Charlie" had something written on his hand that looked like "I am alive!"

Scoutpost said...

Yeah...re: the Thursday line up, I don't know what any time slots are, but it appears too many good shows are ending up on that night, which will make it difficult to watch and DVR everything.

maven said...

Wow...it sounds like Thurs is gonna be a tough night. Choices might have to me made. (I have 2 DVRS so can records 4 shows...but only one of them is HD...Fringe will definitely be on the HD one!)

You're welcome, Twinkle. Scoutpost did a great job reporting, too! We were both so exhausted at night, it was nice to share the reporting!

Unknown said...

It's actually "Am I alive?", with the question mark. Still awfully cool.

maven said...

I just added a post to the Comic Con blog: DocArtz has a great summary of Lost @ Comic Con and he ends the long post with my Lost quilt picture! lol

Tess315 said...

Scoutpost
Flashforward is on at 8:00pm and Fringe is on at 9:00pm.

Does anyone know when The Prisoner airs on AMC? I haven't checked yet.

Back about five or six years ago when there actually was alot of good programing on. I had 3 vcrs that I kept full with recordings.

It seemed like there were at least 2 shows a night back to back that I liked. It took me all week to get them all watched before the next week.

I have 2 dvd recorders now. So I'm pretty well set.

memphish said...

The Prisoner is slated to run in November 2009. It's on AMC and is a mini-series, I'm not sure how long, but I think I heard somewhere 6 hours, which would make sense. :-)

As for the Thursday dilemma -- AARRRGGGHH! It's already happening to some extent this summer. There's nothing on Monday and Tuesday and then I watch several things Wednesday and Thursday. Well that Warehouse 13 is on Tuesdays now, but I tend to record that and watch later. Syfy (I hate that name) has way too many commercials.

Tess315 said...

I don't watch anything on Thursday so Flash Forward being on Thursday is fine with me.

Actually I don't think I'm going to watching much tv this season. Except Lost,Numbers and the Mentalaist. Other than Flash Forward,The Prisoner mini series and possibly V nothing looks that interesting to me.

Most of the shows I like end up getting canceled.

memphish said...

There's even more Maven in the OLP!

Scoutpost said...

Well that's a relief that Fringe and FF won't be on at the same time. Thanks Sayid's Girl for the info.

And I'm getting so tired of summer programming that I wish Sept. would get here already. I'm getting really excited about V and FF, but I agree SG- there just aren't too many shows on TV that really interest me. Wish all the reality TV shows would disappear, or at least most of them. Can't believe the craze has lasted so long.

maven said...

Yes...there's a longer version of the ABC Official Lost Podcast out and my "interview" is much longer and they actually flash my name on screen! Thanks for the ODI for letting me know. Here's the Maven podcast! LOL

Capcom said...

Thanks for all the new series info LoCos! Unfortunately, reality shows will always be around as long as it's cheaper to make those, than to pay production companies to make original entertainment shows. :-p

Neat Maven!

Capcom said...

BTW, I also find the new SeeFee channel name annoying. I wonder if they took a poll on that, what the results would be.

memphish said...

I follow SyFy on Twitter and they claim that most people love the name change especially when they explain why they did it. I'm skeptical. It makes me wonder if the person twittering is the one who came up with it.

Unknown said...

Hey, if the name change means they feel more comfortable picking up Kings from NBC, I'm all for it. Otherwise, it sucks hard.

Capcom said...

LOL. Yeah, the fox took a count of hens in the henhouse, Memphish. :o)

Why did they do it?

memphish said...

Basically they wanted to rebrand and they needed something they could get the URL of. Most real world URLs are owned by others, so they made this up so they could guarantee the webspace.

Capcom said...

What the cheez?! Well good, now someone else can start a SciFi channel with good programming maybe. Tx! :-)

memphish said...

I know you guys have probably all been following Doc Jensen's Master Class on LOST over at EW. Yeah, I can claim I've completed many of the extra credit assignments. Anyhoo, this really stood out to me today and also demonstrates why Doc Jensen gets paid to write about LOST and I don't.

"What is The Island? “What [Locke] perceives, his understanding of the island is, is special. But it might be the road to hell. We still don’t know what [kind of] moral entity the island is. Is it a good guy or a bad guy?” In other words: Lost is all about trust. It’s the defining quality of our post-modern condition, not to mention our current moment: In whom — or in what — can we really trust? Science? Religion? Philosophy? Technology? Political systems? Leaders? Neighbors? Parents? Friends? Lovers? If we are predisposed to trust one thing (say, science) and distrust its opposite (say, religion), then… why? Have we ever considered the origins of our own bias? How can we be certain that the god of our choosing is truly good and has our best interests at heart? Are we being fooled? Are we fooling ourselves? How can we be certain that we aren’t just simps and marks in some big bad bastard’s “long con,” to use Sawyer’s term? "

Boy does this nail things. I especially like how he points out if we trust one thing does that mean we distrust its opposite. I don't want to get political here, but boy this sums up the philosophical distance between me and family members lately. And it sums up why I love LOST for raising these bigger questions. And once again I'll plug Battlestar Galactica; it does a very similar thing in a very smart way with engaging characters and oh yeah, space battles. The Cylons are no Smoke Monster (or are they?) but they make an equally intriguing opposite number to our "heroes."

memphish said...

Heck the whole choice between Jack and Sawyer really sums up that argument doesn't it. If I can trust Jack, can I trust Sawyer? And vice versa. Dang those LOST writers are good. Goes all the way back to The Moth when Sawyer told Kate there's not that much difference between Jack and him.

memphish said...

This cracks me up, also from Doc Jensen.

"Last season’s time travel storyline culminated with Jack becoming convinced that he could finally find happiness if only he could change… history. Not himself — history. Seriously."

Amused2bHere said...

well congrats again to Maven for getting her 15 minutes of fame!! We love ya Maven!

I'm so stoked that you and Scoutpost had such a great time, and were willing to share it with us. You gals rock.

I hope somebody picks up Kings from NBC. I really want more of that story, they way they were retelling it (for the original story, I just go to my Bible. But I was very interested to see how NBC was reimagining it. Well done, I say.) Once again (coff coff Daybreak coff) we have a really interesting show that is ill treated by the network and doomed from infancy. ah well, will they ever learn? Maybe if more shows became internet only...so tv has some real competition....meh

ok, that's my rant for the day.

sincere condolences to Takes A Village on the loss of your beloved dad. You and your family are in my prayers.

Capcom said...

I haven't been following anything of Jensen's, so thanks for posting that Memphish. Your points are very good also. The Christian bible, and any religious texts with enlightenment at their core, consistently warn that evil (or non-enlightenment) doesn't come to us in the form of something ugly, it comes as beauty, and pleasure, and comfort. Because if it plied us with ugly things, we wouldn't be tempted to follow. So once we learned of Locke's true personality I have always wondered if what Locke "saw" was something evil tricking his mind with visions of beauty instead of its true, possibly terrifying, form or essense. For instance, Smokey came to Ben as Alex, rather than say Roger, to convince him to obey. Seeing Locke being so starved for attention and affection, and so easily swayed by it when he gets it, really made me wonder about that. Especially now, knowing what we do about MIB and his plan to use Locke, if his plan for Locke began when they crashed, MIB could have been tricking Locke all along into thinking that he was doing something wonderful, when he actually was being used to destroy Jacob...just as Locke seems to have been used all his life, poor guy.

The question of whether or not what we believe in is the right thing to believe, is always at the root of anyone's faith. I've never believed that science and religion are at opposite poles, as Jensen suggests (but many others do believe), but that's just me. Perhaps he was just using those two as random examples in his thoughts.

That is hiliarious about Jack! It also struck me that changing history allows Jack to fix the entire universe!!! The ultimate "fix", haha! Jack The Fix-er-upper finally finds the biggest broken thing that he can possibly find to fulfill his longing for worth and achievement, and it's nothing less than the Universe! X-D

I totally missed watching Kings, I think that something else was on at the same time and I figured that I'd catch up with it on the reruns. Oh well.

Capcom said...

P.S. I do realize that Lost also has pitted Science and Faith against each other -- which struck me as an unusual pairing of choices at first, but as the show moved on I realized what TPTB were saying with that. Also that blind faith in anything without study and question and trial is dangerous. In the X-Files, Scully also had that train of thought about faith vs science, but I was never quite clear on how TPTB closed out her story on that, it still seemed a bit ambiguous to me, but maybe just because I lost interest in thsoe last two seasons and may have missed it.

memphish said...

Here's the link to the article I was quoting. It has no spoilers other than perhaps some discussion of Comic Con, though I don't recall.

Scoutpost said...

Interesting points capcom and memphish. Interestingly, I had a dream last night that I saw a sneak peak/preview of LOST S6- in it Jacob turned into a dragon type figure and carried Locke away, and we all realized that Jacob was really evil all along and that the MIB was the good one the whole time...even though it would seem the opposite. Anyway, it was a crazy kind of dream (esp. since they aired the preview/sneak peak during an episode of The Jeffersons!)

Tess315 said...

Ever since the season 5 finale, I've wondered if Jacob may be the "bad" one and MIB is the "good" one.

As Capcom said "evil" doesn't come to us as ugly but as beauty to trick and manipulate us.

And like Frank said to Bram. In my experience the people who go out of their way to tell you they're the good guys are usually the bad guys.

However TPTB are tricky they may be fooling me by not fooling me. lol
I guess I'll have to wait and see if I'm right or wrong. Has season 6 started yet? ;)

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey, zort, this is for you:

Futurama Stars Return!

Feature Film?

Capcom said...

Haha Scoutpost, did you have some spicy food before you went to bed?! X-D

What Frank said sure makes it sound like Ben is not "the good guys", eh Sayidsgirl? LOL, fooling us by not fooling us. TPTB are masters at the switcheroos and gotchas.

Twinkle said...

Memphish: Love the thoughts and quotes from Doc Jensen!

Capcom: I watched Kings and liked it, although I don't think they did a good job with the character David. In order to make him more like us, they took away what made him unique, that he believed in God no matter what. Catch it if you can, if it shows up on Hulu or something.

***Pondering based on Comic Con spoilers***

I've been mulling over the hints that Comic Con dropped us about next season and the implications of the season finale. We have the Mr. Cluck's commercial and the Oceanic Airways commercial. We have bits and pieces about which Lost actors will be on next season and where they will be. We can guess at a few things.

- They will still be on the island.
- Something, at least about the outer world, will have changed.
- Dead characters will be seen.
- Dharma won't be present so much.

Sooo this leads us to conclude what? An educated guess and a few theories:

- Our Losties, or some of them, will remember everything that has happened for them. Their timeline will continue forward.
- Will there be a schism between the island reality and the outer world's reality?
- Will there be a schism between past, present, and future on the island that will allow dead characters to appear?

Ok, so I have very little, but I'm interested in your theories.

*******

Also, I wonder if TPTB aren't setting up a war between good and evil, but instead are addressing the question "Who/What can you trust?" like Memphis and Doc Jensen brought up.

There doesn't have to be good vs. bad for this to be a valid question. Science isn't good or bad. Faith isn't good or bad. They can go either way, depending on how they are used.

I believe Jacob and MIB represent Compassion and Justice. That would be a great commentary on our current society. When nations do things we don't like, or even harm us, do we pursue justice or show compassion? Or how much of each? When a CEO mismanages money do we let the business fail (justice) potentially harming its employees? Or bail the company out (compassion) but potentially reward disingenuous behavior? Neither justice nor compassion are right or wrong in themselves. It's how and when they are used that makes the difference.

Given how Lost has made us look at things, and then look at things again, I don't believe it will boil down to a simple conflict between good and evil.

Listen to their conversation on the beach:

JACOB: I take it you're here 'cause of the ship.
ENEMY: I am. How did they find the Island?
JACOB: You'll have to ask 'em when they get here.
ENEMY: I don't have to ask. You brought them here. Still trying to prove me wrong, aren't you?
JACOB: You are wrong.
ENEMY: Am I? They come. They fight. They destroy. They corrupt. It always ends the same.
JACOB: It only ends once. Anything that happens before that is just progress.

Do you see how what "enemy" says is actually correct? Brutal but accurate? And Jacob's response is also accurate in a sense, but allows a lot of evil to be called "progress." So if they are both right, how can either be all good or all bad?

Zort70 said...

Melissa - Good news indeed !

Twinkle - I agree that the conversation could have many meanings depending on context, something we are missing a large chunk of.

To me the conversation almost sounded like a prisoner / prison guard type of exchange. i.e. people that do not get on, but have a mutual respect for each other because of the solution.

Zort70 said...

Sorry that should say ....because of the situation.

Capcom said...

Interesting thoughts Twinkle.

As to the island, what you say makes me think that I'd forgotten all the things that TPTB made us "feel" about the island up to S4 hiatus and S5. That is to say, originally, they sort of made us think that the island was kind of a separate entity, or maybe in it's own dimension, than The World's existance. Then with the S4 hiatus film hinting at Kerr time shells, and all the time jumping in S5, I started to think that it's just sometimes in other timezones than The World is in. But maybe it's still like we were first led to think, that it's not quite "there" physically, as Dan's experiment and his comment about light gave hints at. It may come down to the island not exactly being securely planted in our world or dimension, or even originally a part of the earth. Of course I have no idea what I'm talking about. :-B

You are completely right about context, Zort. At this point, it is so difficult to understand what the heck they are alluding to. So far it sounds to me as if Jacob is speaking of the ultimate End, or, the end of humanity's time or chance at it. And not neccessarily that the progress gained by mistakes is good or bad (in allowing humans to goof up) -- but that allowing the ones being tested to keep existing, gives them the chance to eventually get it right, after the progress of continual trial and error, and to learn from mistakes. That is, as if Jacob and MIB are looking at humans as children who never learn and should be destroyed vs. children who can eventually grow up to educate themselves as they increase their knowledge of themselves and the world that they live in, even if it takes millenia. Granted, given some of the nudnicks that ended up in this island bunch, I'd tend to agree with MIB that they're hopeless and will never learn. But then on Jacob's side, I also believe that how do you know if someone might not have come around if they had just one more chance to see the light, but you took that chance away from them? Apart from good or evil, at this point, that's what I think is going on: MIB wants to give up on humanity, and Jacob wants to keep giving them another chance to redeem themselves before "destoying" them. Which falls in line with the Redemption theme, that TPTB still say has a very big part in the show up to the end, supposedly.

I may never get off the TV, Netflix is now streaming past seasons of LOST! Now my loan out of Season 2 will not slow down my rewatch.

Tess315 said...

I may be wrong but I never seen the Comic Con videos as anything more than fun. Something to give the die hard fans a laugh.

I never thought of them as anything canon or a clue to season 6.

Twinkle said...

Good point about them not being canon, Sayid's Girl!

Thanks for your take too, Capcom! I liked the way you set up destroying versus giving more chances.

At some point the extra chances have to end though, and not everyone will have redeemed themselves by then.

Tess315 said...

I think maybe the progress is when the extra chanes end.
Then it either "only ends once" or they start again with another group.
I'm guessing it will "only end once" in season 6.

Capcom said...

True Twinkle and Sayidsgirl. It's like when someone close to you keeps doing the wrong thing and not straightening out the way they should be...how many chances should they get, before they drag you down into their abyss? It seems also that there has to be a finite number of chances, if they just keep messing up over and over. But if there is some endpoint that Jacob and MIB know about (a catastrophic event like, say, an asteroid hitting earth, or an ending as per the book of Revelations for example) that could be the One End too.

I saw the hiatus vids and bizarre info as fun ways to hint at the flavor of the coming story/season. Not even in a literal sense, but the double bunnies sure did get our brains going to accept the time warping aspects once we discussed Casimir phsysics and wormholes for a summer. Fun except for Kyle as far as the wormholes, I guess. :o)

Unknown said...

Gah! Wormholes!

Twinkle said...

So has the island been swallowed by a wormhole except for Hurley who got split by it so he could both be on the island and the owner of Mr. Cluck's?

Hey, if the numbers brought Hurley good luck (in the commercial), then maybe our Losties succeeded in changing one of the values of the Valenzetti equation which was supposed to predict "the end?" If Season 6 ~ Season 1, maybe the Numbers are important again?!

Capcom said...

LOL, I knew that I had to specify that the wormholes weren't fun for all of us. :-D

Twinkle said...

That first part was a jab at Kyle. :-)

But it led me to the second. Thanks, Kyle! Hurley was so petrified of the numbers because of the bad luck that followed after he won the lottery. In the commercial he said that now he's had nothing but "good luck!" It's also interesting in light of Jacob and MIB's conversation about "the end," as we've been discussing.

Capcom said...

I'm hoping that about the numbers too Twinkle. But one Lostie in two times/places isn't new just with Hurley in restaraunt-la-la-land. There were multiple Lockes and Suns in 2007 (on and off island), and for anyone born after 1977, there was one of them in DI-ville and one on the earth in their "real" lives in 1977. We are talking about this over at Big's also. It's a lot to assume, until TPTB iron all that out for us, but it's all we've got so far with the info that we've been given. Unless your "real" self ceases to exist once you start time hopping, but that opens up a very ugly can of worms in itself, and I'm confused enough as it is. :-B

Capcom said...

And didn't Jacob tell Hurley that he was special and didn't have bad luck (paraphrasing there), so this could even be after all the island junk is over and he's back from the island adventure as a new man! Ack! I don't really think that, it was just a brain burp.

Twinkle said...

Or did you mean an "ugly can of *wormholes"?

Capcom said...

LOL, Twinkle! X-D

Touche!

Zort70 said...

Do the videos with the Losties in different places / situations signify that these are like Desmonds "flashes" and that time will eventually course correct to "It only ends once..."

So the detonation of the bomb made a difference but not enough to change the end result.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, I'm listening to the season 1 soundtrack right now, and after all this talk of comic con, I am ready for a re-watch! Maybe I'll get started this weekend. :)

Can't resist....

Capcom said...

Zort, maybe the bomb was a part of the "progress"? :-o

**Possible iffy bomb/incident spoiler following, for anyone who's REALLY spoiler conscious and doesn't even want to know a speculative hint**

Another thing about the bomb/incident: at Comic Con, someone ask TPTB something about whether Juliet would be back (I think) and Carlton (I think) answered back that, "blah-blah-ambiguous-answer", but in the course of answering he said something to the affect that *when the bomb went off*, and then talked about the Juliet portion of the reply. Did anyone else catch that? If so, do you think that he really meant that the bomb actually went off, as opposed to it not going off and the energy pocket flaring? TPTB could have actually given us a very concrete answer about that, if so. Because up until I heard/read that, I and other peeps weren't sure about which thing exploded, so to speak.

*Iffy spoiler off* Thanx in advance for any replies about that.

Tess315 said...

I finished my rewatch of all 5 seasons right before my birthday.
So now I have all my re watch notes and I'm listening to re watch podcasts and going to the rewatch blogs.

There are alot of interesting blogs out there that I've never been to. It's alot of fun.

Tess315 said...

Hey Capcom

Iffy resonse to capcom.

I'm not sure if I caught that partiular "slip" are not.
They did that with alot of their answers to questions about the bomb. Someone asked about Faraday and if he would survive and have kids. And Carlton basicly said he was dead. Then Damon said if what Jack was doing worked it could be "possible" that Faraday could have a family. So they did alot of tap dancing an back tracking around this subject.
BTW I'm of the mind that the bomb did detonate. I compare it to Desomond turning the failsafe key.
That's why I think the way we will see the season 1 characters will be during a "FB" through time caused by the detonation of the bomb. Like Desmond's FB through his own past when he turned the key.

End of iffy response.

Twinkle said...

***Another Capcom response but definitely involves spoilers***

I too thought they said that the bomb actually went off.

Zort70 said...

Sayid'sGirl - Yes I've been waiting all day in the Uk !

memphish said...

What time of day did Rachel Blake always hack? Maybe that's what time we'll get it.

Scoutpost said...

The new Mysteries of the Universe is up! Watching it now.

Scoutpost said...

Oh my gosh...Phil...Olivia! LOL

The test questions are the same ones we took last summer for the revival of the DI.

These videos make me laugh. "the puzzle pieces are all there" but they can't put them together. Sounds familiar! Serving up mystery....

Scoutpost said...

Sorry, one more thing. Do you guys think that there is anything hidden in the fake "static" in the videos?

Tess315 said...

The last time I saw Phil he had a long metal rod sticking out of his chest.

Black Swan said...

ROFL!! Phil with a girlfriend?!?

Does anyone know if these 'mysteries of the universe' videos are canon?

There are lots of references to Dharma Wants You from last summer.. lol, the tests originally meant for the criminally insane? I knew the bigger question was not how to get a job with Dharma, but Do you really WANT a job with Dharma?!? The criminally insane part reminds me of when I researched Bentham; the "Panopticon"

maven said...

Hahaha....Phil and Oliva. Loved that Phil had a house, a girlfriend AND a dog! And that's what I thought of when they flashed those questions, Scoutpost, same kind of DWY questions we got!

memphish said...

I haven't watched the video yet. Gotta save something to do tomorrow. As for canonicity I'm not sure if it matters since

*****truly minor Comic Con answer to DI question****

we're pretty much done with the DI at this point on the show. So anything new we learn may or may not jive with what we thought we knew, but given that it won't be relevant to S6 I'm not sure it matters. I'm guessing though that it'll be in the Rachel Blake, Mittlework video sort of category, adding to the story, but not per se canon.

Capcom said...

As far as I can see, you are correct without even having seen it, Memphish! IMO, the vid seemed a lot like the "Who are the DHARMA scientists? -- where are the DHARMA scientists? -- why did they disappear?" message that 'Persphone' left as a clue.

I also agree with what you said about the DI. All I really want to know, or NEED to know, is how and why the heck they adopted the Egyptian stuff, e.g., the hieroglyphs on the Swan timer and all that. Where or what is the link? Did they meet Jacob? Make friends with Smokey? Get taken over by Smokey like the B612? To me that's still missing.

Amused2bHere said...

hey all...I was reading Doc Arzt' recap of ComicCon, and came across a comment from Nestor about Richard. He says his first appearance was as a recruiter for the DI, to recruit Juliet...and that he killed Julie's ex because the ex was keeping her from leaving.

Is this a confirmation, or do we think Nestor is making assumptions?

Scoutpost said...

I don't think he said that during the panel...maybe during an interview. I have no idea where he got that from though, if it was his assumption or if it was something he was told about his character that had not been revealed to us. I saw that a few days ago and it has me puzzled as well.

As far as Mysteries of the Universe...I agree that they are probably just sideline stuff like the DI stuff in TLE. And like Memphish said...don't think it will make an impact on S6.

Scoutpost said...

There's more ARG talk over on DarkUFO regarding the DamonCarltonandapolarbear.com. I'm reading the comments in the forum right now, but don't know if it's official yet. Stay tuned.....

Great job at Comic-con Maven, and Scoutpost.
I believe that the questions in the Mysteries, were the same questions that were asked in the Dharma Booth, last year.

Capcom said...

We're here for ya Village! :-x

You're right Scoutpost, it's getting pretty intriguing over there. They are finding things (whether they are really they are not, heheh) in that pic of the room with the garbage can and Lost poster in it. FYI the forum: link

Scoutpost said...

No official word yet on the ARG, but if it's fake, it's a better job than the one that happened earlier this summer. This one might pan out...

Tess315 said...

Hey gang
The piture on Paul's DC&APB site looks like he's been in the shredder.
We're also suppose to get a video once it's finished downloading to his computer.
It would be cool if this really is an ARG.
You know what maybe I should put this over at LostARG too.

I think that maybe it should be Sayidsgirl, on that forum people said that the sites' source code or something has ABC and useage terms in it.

OMG these are freakin' funny. New ABC promos for the fall lineup. It's more of the ABC "house" where all the stars live. Michael Emerson is LOL funny:

ABC promos @ DarkUFO

memphish said...

What's even funnier is that Ben Linus was welcoming Sarah Sheppard into the house. Don't these ABC people realize we will totally catch that.

I loved Courtney Cox rapid firing a nickname at Josh Holloway a la Sawyer and the subsequent look on his face.

Tess315 said...

i think the comicon clues may point to an alternate reality /timeline created when julliette pounded jughead. Perhaps hurley is still a millionaire sans the lottery and kate is still a killer because of course correction. I.E. the island still wants them there. I also think another possibility is these clues are from the old timeline before desmond downed 815,this might have been the original timeline before desmond was inserted into it. Even with the philosophy of WHH there had to be a first iteration of the timeline where the 815'ers were not in the past and say Ben was never shot by sayid, before the time loop scenario we saw last season. In back to the future in the beginning we see marty's parents who are unhappily married, before marty has ever gone back into the past and and slightly tinkered with their courtship, marty was probably happy to hang out with doc brown to escape an unhappy homelife. After Marty got back to the future his parents were way more happily married playing tennis, partly because marty going back in the past made his dad have to stand up for himself with biff. I think everything we have seen up until this point on lost is the tennis playing happily married mcflys stage, no tto say its the happy ending just not the first itteration of the timeline(the virgin timeline with no time travel". we have never seen the timeline that had to come first before there was a timeloop, where perhaps 815 never landed on the island at all. I think the lone exception of this is Ben. I think that in the original virgin timeline ben may have ascended to the leader of the others without getting shot or healed by the temple, or perhaps ben was never supposed to be the leader of the others, prhaps it was flocke we assumed the form of ben's mom and lured ben out into the jungle to meet richard. Im sure in backto the future after marty went into the past WHH applied to the altered timeline that marty created, but there was still the first iteration before any time travel occurred to get us to that moment , where marty takes the delorian out for his first spin. SO maybe kate killing a differnt guy or oceanic never having a crash is the unhappy mcflys timeline that we never had a chance to see yet. If desmond is the big change that changed the virgin first iteration of the timeline we haven't seen yet it would also explain why desmond is the only one who is special enough to ultimately change things. Since he is the only character we have seen have accurate foresight or visions of the future.
