BTW Mellissa, your pre-episode questions for the finale post turned out to be spot on! :-D

memphish said...

Thanks for the new post ML. Anyone going to start the big rewatch tonight?

Melissa_Lossa said...

I am happy to say that most of my nagging end-of-the-season questions were answered!

Here's a new one though: Why was Hurley the only one visited by Abbaddon after he returned? And why was Hurley the only one that Jacob spoke to directly? I still think that Hurley came back with a mission, and that the details of that mission were in the guitar case.

Melissa_Lossa said...

I'm torn on a re-watch. I'd love to compile a definitive list of questions, but I just rewatched every episode before season 5, and I don't know if I have the energy/time again!

memphish said...

I understand ML. I rewatched everything before S4 and couldn't hack it again before S5. I don't intend to rewatch in any organized fashion, but I did start rewatching S3 this past weekend and have started a list of questions on my blog. I have a feeling all my niggling Dharma and Others questions like "Where did Karl come from?" may never be answered, and for the most part I'm ok with that.

I think the biggest question I want answered going into S6 is what's the deal with Christian Shephard on Island. I can't figure out how to put together what we've seen about MIB and Jacob with Christian's various appearances.

memphish said...

Part of me would love to see Hurley be the key, but I think it would also make me question how much the writers knew about the story in advance. I remember when I first watched the show how much I loved Hurley, but it took 20 episodes to get a flashback for him.

Melissa_Lossa said...

I don't know if I want Hurley to be the key to everything, but there has to be a reason why he's connecting with all of these people, alive and dead.

My latest theory is that Charlie sent Hurley back for Claire. I really think Hurley would have only returned to save someone he really cared about. And he was determined to stay on the island with Jin. There has to be something he is meant to do.

lost2010 said...

I rewatched several mid-season. I think I sort of floundered out around mid-season 2. . .those flashbacks just get reaalllly tedious in Season 2 after a while.

Capcom said...

That's it Melissa! Aaron is in the guitar case! :-D But you're right, Hurley really did care about Claire and her well-being after his buddy died.

maven said...

I'm going to try and participate in the re-watch. I watched Episodes 1-4 already. As I said on FB, looking at Locke through S5 eyes, puts a different perspective on his actions. After he reunites Vincent with Walt, there's a shot of Locke staring at Michael, Walt and Vincent, and there's such ominous music playing as he glares and smirks. Very scary. I was wondering if MIB could be using Locke even then. I know we decided that MIB only takes over people who are dead, but maybe he can play with their minds and steer them in certain directions.

Melissa_Lossa said...

See, that's the other reason I'm torn on a re-watch - the possibilty of reading too much into early scenes (no offense, maven!). I think there may be a tendency to over analyze earlier episodes.

Ellen said...

I'm doing the re-watch. I agree, to a point, about the over-analyzing, but I have already found some interesting things in watching the first 4 eps. I wouldn't say that they are anything earth-shattering or unknown up to this point, but interesting nevertheless.
I look forward to the discussions!
I am going to be doing a new post on my blog soon, running a little behind I'm afraid, but it'll be intense! :D
Take care ya'll!

I've just relistened to the podcast and realised the first time through I missed my bit at the start !

One thought / question I had was that the bomb going off could have fractured time / reality, so that multiple timelines are running in parallel. That maybe why the island cannot be found as there is only one island and it is hopping between parallel realities .

Also that might explain why desmond was able to see several outcomes to Charlies death and appeared to save him. He could have just been moving between the parallel realities.

However the fact that these "course corrections" eventually only end up one way seems to imply that at some point in the future there will be another incident, like the bomb going off, that will bring the realities back together.

Zort70 said...

By the way the plane going missing in the Atlantic has familiar undertones to us in the Lost world, but not one I would want to have to deal with for real.

Capcom said...

That's for sure Zort, disappearing planes, not good. :-o

Dear Locos, does anyone know where Lostpedia gets the info that 316 took off from The World in Janurary 2008? Is it just speculative math that they did, or did we get some kind of concrete evidence as to the 2008 date? Thanks very much, if anyone knows this. :-)

Zort70 said...

Isn't the time the flight took off based on Locke's death ? i.e. a few days to a week after.

memphish said...

Capcom, this is where I think the day comes from. The Oceanic 6 were rescued after 108 days which would put them in January 2005 when they were rescued. They return to the Island after 3 years thus January 2008. I think the 3 year thing though is a guideline not a dateline.

Repeatedly the show said explicitly that Sawyer and crew were in 1977. Sawyer said in the incident it was July 1977. The cards in the episodes said 30 years later which might mean it's July 2007, but it has never been exactly specified when Ajira takes off and there's no reason to believe that if it's July in Dharmaville it has to be July in Ajira days. But I think you can also say that there were no examples of Christmas decorations or any other seasonal decorations in the flashbacks preceding Ajira 316's departure.

Capcom said...

Thanks Memphis! :-)

Those are kind of along the lines that I was assuming but I wasn't sure if I was on the right track. Especially since on the Lostpedia timeline, they don't give any reference to where they got the January 2008 point. I guess that I should also check out the ABC timeline, do you think that they would get it right officialy? They do mess up some of the popups, after all. :-o

Last time I checked, Lostpedia had two different times for Juliet's on island arrival. The first was September 5, 2001. In another lostpedia location it is mentioned that Juliet told Goodwin the next day would be her 3 year anniversary on the island, but the next day was September 22, 2004, the day Oceanic 815 crashed.

Either way, Juliet arrives on isle in September 2001, but the exact date appears fuzzy to lostpedia, and to me.

memphish said...

Or is it fuzzy for Gregg Nations?

Capcom said...

LOL Memphish.

Good work Thin.

blueheron13 said...

Capcom,

Isn't some of the estimating based on the issue date of Locke's (Bentham's) fake passport?

Capcom said...

Right Blueheron, I just saw that over at EyeMSick on a post. Good point!

Doing the back-study to put the puzzle together is getting much more complicated since Season 5 aired! :-o

memphish said...

This is the most brilliant thing I've read about LOST possibly ever.

maven said...

Thanks for that link, Memphish. I agree with you and all those who commented. It is a WOW read!

Capcom said...

Yes, Big's article is interesting and fun to think about! As we get closer to the final stretch though, I'm starting to avoid the serious guesstimations of what it all means, because like Memphish often says, I'm afraid that my expectations will either be not as good as the reality, or that someone will actually guess what the ending is going to be and then it won't be a surprise when it happens. I don't know if that made any sense the way I put that tho. :-o

Big's nice post is not really a guess on the finish though, mostly an overall thought on what things mean up to now and transitionally into Season 6.

Capcom said...

BTW, if you all like Big's thoughts, you might try out some Lost Hema Theory as well:

2costa said...

theres no way the ajira flight took off a week after locke's death. ben had said jack booked his first flight when locke died, and we were lead to beleive jack had taken more then one flight. on weekends. i think its a little writer misstep, but maybe they didn't find locke's body right away and maybe since he had no family the whole funeral timetiable took a couple of weeks after ben killed locke. Why would someone with no family have an Obit or A puplic viewing, that all cost's money. Bentham, would be looking at a pine box and a paupers grave, noyt the nice coffin he had.

Capcom said...

Misstep I can certainly believe 2costa. After Jack saw the obit and called Kate to meet him at the airport, didn't he tell her that he had been flying on weekends for a while by then, if I recall correctly? After all, how long could Locke have been at the morgue and funeral home? Maybe it takes a while to release the body and get to the funeral service stage, if the authorities have to search out next of kin, etc.???? Who knows what exactly happened here, I sure don't. It's a good question for ComicCon, i.e., what is the timeline for Jack's trips, Locke's death, and the Ajira flight?

memphish said...

I think I've decided Claire is not dead, but instead she has the sickness same as Robert and the rest of the B612 crowd killed by Danielle. She got it by her exposure to Smokey masquerading as Christian and it explains why she would abandon Aaron willingly. Claire and Danielle were strongly linked by the sickness storyline in Maternity Leave, so it is fitting that Claire would be the one to get the sickness. I'll even go so far as to speculate that a LOSTie will have to kill Claire or at least make a choice about killing Claire because of this sickness like Danielle did with Robert and the rest. It would be pretty sick if it were Jack who was the one to make that choice.

Capcom said...

That sounds great to me Memphish, I forgot that she could have gotten taken over by Smokey like the B612s.

Oh gosh, that would be weird for someone to have to kill her. Jack or Hurley would be the worst possible scenarios.

Do we really believe that the shots given to her were really for the bye-bee? I've always wondered if it was to keep her safe from Smokey maybe, after we talked about the possible relationship between the vaccine and Smokey, as in, keeping Smokey out of your brain.

Happy Birthday to Fenris!

I was kind of holding out hope Dom would be in the last Season of Lost. I guess that blows that hope out of the water.

In another case of worlds colliding, I am a big fan of the rock band Queen and saw an article about a group called Dream Theatre doing a queen medley.

That's neat about Futurama Zort! There is so much more now for them to make fun of since the final season. A funny thing that you would get...I bought a new free-standing analog antenna for my one TV with no cable and it looks like Calculon's head. X-D

Hey, everyone!

Just wanted to let you all know that David and I are zeroing in on a date for the first Book Club podcast of the year! We'll planning on doing Survivor of the Chancellor the last week in June.

Sorry I haven't been around much lately - there's a lot of stuff going on at my job right now. I'll work on getting a full book club schedule up this week. Everybody feel free to post your picks!

Oh, and Zort - Mr. Mel has that same Slurm Can! We were THRILLED at the news! Have you seen all of the movies yet?

Zort70 said...

Mellisa, good news about the book club.

I haven't seen the most recent movie yet, but I'm hoping the birthday fairy will be kind to me as it is only available on DVD over here.

Sayid'sGirl - I chose Charlie too, I did read that they were having trouble booking the actress who plays Libby so we may not get a conclusion to that part of the story.

There was also an article I read the other day with Matthew Fox saying a spin off series from Lost would be almost impossible. I have to agree with that thought, although Lost:The Dharma Years does have some sort of ring to it.

Zort70 said...

I don't know if this link has been posted before, but the Survivors of The Chancellor is available on line to read for free.

Capcom said...

I would luuuuuuuv to see either a spinoff series or movie about the DHARMA years! Some peeps have totally slammed that idea on other blogs, but at this point, I'll take anything that TPTB can dream up Lost-wise, as long as it doesn't lose quality in the process. Say, if it's as good as the first X-Files movie, yes!...but if it's as not-good as the second Files movie, no. But I'ld bet that tPTB will be ready to move on after Season 6 is over.

No word from David yet on the podcast - I'd read Chancellor now, as I have a feeling the podcast may come up at a moment's notice!

maven & scoutpost - here's something for you to pick up from Comic Con: a Ben Linus Bobblehead!

Also, I have to get Mr. Mel to find the link for me, but there's a new company working on Lost figures! First series is Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Juliet. I'm a little disappointed in that, because I already have Jack, Kate and Sawyer from McFarlane's line. But, I'm hoping these will be from the past season, as the one's that I have are all from the first season. I'll post photos as soon as some are released!

Finally, zort - did you hear the good news? Comedy Central picked up Futurama for a full new season! Can't wait!

Wow Zort, any details as to why? Maybe Dark will have something up over there. :-o

Docarzt has a transcript of an interview with Darlton and Bender and it has this :

Still no word from David on book club podcasts, but here's what I'm thinking for a reading list:

Survivors of the Chancellor
The Invention of Morel
The Little Prince
A Separate Reality
Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger

I took Evil Under the Sun off the list - I jut read it, and other than the fact that it takes place on an island, it seems to have NOTHING to do with Lost.

Let me know what you think!

memphish said...

So I'm rewatching the middle of Season 3 today and I got to Left Behind where Smokey encounters Kate and Juliet. First thing that stood out to me is that Kate is probably the one person on the Island who has most encountered Smokey. Don't know what exactly to make of that, nevertheless, I think she's run into Smokey at least 5 times.

But more importantly it made me wonder about the whole Jacob and Black Shirt thing. It seemed from the S5 finale that Jacob is the one who brings people to the Island by both drawing them a la the Black Rock and by traveling off Island and touching people. So then in order to play his people I guess Smokey has to read people and then start to manipulate them. But if that's the case it's odd that we haven't in fact seen more of Smokey. Moreover it's really odd that Smokey would kill if he is in fact Black Shirt who's entire point is that the people will destroy each other on their own.

TakesaVillage said...

Howdy Loco's.
Interesting point about MIB Memphish, although he certainly reminded Jacob about his wish list.
Smokey says,"Oh no,not Kate again;
I've got plenty of pictures of her already."
2 weeks till Comic-Con? That's good news;(You go girls).
Back in town after visiting our Daughter's family. It was sweet. A couple of more days before I have to come back to reality.

lost2010 said...

OT (Harpers Island): Was so sad to see Chloe and the British doctor die. They were my favorites (next to Abby and Jimmy). My least favorite is Trish - while I hope she is the killer I doubt she will be. I think they're playing up the Jimmy suspicion too much for it to be him. I do have a guess but I'll hold it in reserve. LOL - Cheesy fun is just about a perfect description!

lost2010 said...

(I have mentally called Cal - Charlie the entire time I've watched H.I. You would think I'd have gotten it right by the time he died.)

Ellen said...

OT- yeah, Melissa, I really didn't have any investment in any of the characters that were killed until Chloe and Cal. I actually cried when Chloe let go. The music and the scene were so poignant..."you can't have me." Wow. Can't wait until the finale tonight.
Lost2010- Charlie!! (LOL!)

Maven and Scoutpost...you guys are great! Getting excited!
xxoo

memphish said...

Glad you guys have enjoyed Harper's Island. I watched the first episode and a half, but It was too gory for me, and the acting was pretty terrible.

So I'm thinking some more about Jacob and I guess we can conclude that it was Jacob who made the clouds clear and allowed Naomi and subsequently the rest of the freighties find the Island. I still want to know what the deal was with Desmond's flashes in Catch-22 especially the fact he saw both Charlie die and Charlie holding the parachute. Was the Man In Black causing or influencing the flashes? Jacob? Something else?

Capcom said...

I tried Harper's too Memphish, but it was too much for me. I think I'm just tired of viewing heavy conflict stories for the moment. Eureka is more my speed right now...a little laughs, a little science. :o)

lost2010 said...

OT Harpers: I thought that might be who it was! Won't say anymore in case some of you are watching later.

:)

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, I was SO wrong about the killer on Harper's Island! Although I think my ending was better. :)

****spoiler if you haven't watched it yet****

Having read And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, ***spoiler about the book!*** I expected the second killer to be someone who we thought was dead. My money was on that kid who shot himself in the leg - he was the only one who had a witness to his death, and shortly thereafter, the only person who knew where his body was got killed. Oh well. :) Since I expected the bride and groom to get off the island, having one of them be the killer was pretty good.

I was right about the killer being Wakefield's kid, though - I guessed that one pretty early on. Very Scream 3.

And if you're keeping track, I just gave away the twist endings to a TV show, a book AND a movie. Not bad! :)

Melissa -

spoliler alert

I had it narrowed down to Jimmy or Henry. I couldn't decide whether it was Jimmy and it would be a double bluff. Or Henry since he was the one that orchestrated bringing everyone to the island. I was hoping Trish since she would have also had a hand in planning the wedding (just because I didn't care for her much), but Henry works too.

End spoiler

Do you think Charles Widmore after he was banished from the Island still had a spy there who was telling him things like hey, this guy Desmond landed here? I'm wondering this because of Naomi having the picture of Des and Penny as her cover story, though of course none of the other freighties are apparently in on that cover story.

Capcom said...

I like that "kid" from "Jake 2.0", he has a lot better acting range than that show let on. He was pretty "Norman Bates-y" last night! Heheh, I watched the finale just cuz you ladies were talking about it. :-) So...is that the end of the show? One season and the mystery is solved?

That's a really interesting point Memphish, and I like it. Do you think that maybe it could have been Richard who was his liaison? Although RA did show some disdain for Wid at the point when K & S turned Bennie over to him, ya never know. Or could it have been Kelvin, since he was in direct contact with Des? It would be interesting to find out that Kelvin was a Widmore infiltration recruit like Naomi.

lost2010 said...

Yep, one season and you get the 'whole story'. . .kinda nice actually. I don't think the ratings were very good so I doubt they'll try the concept again but it was fun while it lasted.

Re Lost: You would think that the more people got dissatisfied with Ben's leadership, the more they might start leaking information to Widmore. So that's entirely possible.

memphish said...

So I'm rewatching The Man Behind The Curtain and wonder did Ben meet long-haired Richard Alpert before the LBs flashed to 1974? That only seems logical given that there seems to be no truce between the Hostiles and the DI when Ben is learning about volcanoes, not to mention Alpert's hair.

Of course the other HUGE thing about that episode is Ben seeing his dead mother on the Island on both sides of the sonic fence. We're given no indication that Ben was scanned by Smokey, then again Smokey could have scanned Roger on a beer run while he was passed out in a Dharma Van to get the info.

What really struck me is that the people we saw interact with Jacob off Island and Ben like everyone else on LOST have Daddy issues and that got me thinking about Biblical Jacob and Esau. In the Bible Jacob was favored by his mother and Esau by his father, but the father gave Jacob the blessing and even though he found out he was tricked he couldn't revoke it in favor of his favorite son. But it was the Mommy thing that really got me thinking. Esau's mom didn't like him or his wives. And now we see what could be the Esau-like Man In Black using Ben's dead Mommy to draw him into this long con power play against Jacob. Quite ironic. The other thing that really stood out and that I had mis-remembered was that Ben's dead mom appeared to him twice before he met Richard. Using Ben's Mom was not part of Richard's power play, it was a separate action taken by the Island forces.

The other thing that stood out to me was young Ben taken the drunk Roger's shoes off him when he was passed out on the couch on Ben's birthday. It looked exactly like something we'd seen Kate do and could imagine Jack doing as well.

lost2010 said...

I'm rewatching Season 2, and I've noticed that Sawyer's hair was definitely at it's best in Season 2. Err, wait, that's not what I meant to say.

I meant to say that there is a scene where Jack wakes up on the lower bunk of the hatch and he jerks awake like he's disoriented. I can very much see Season 6 starting with one of our existing characters jerking awake on a bunk bed. . . and either it being a fake-out and it isn't in the hatch at all. . .or he goes to push the button and at the end of the scene one of the other losties or Ben is revealed as the other button pusher. . . . because Jack's reset didn't do quite what they'd planned.

Capcom said...

Interesting points Memphish. And if I'm recalling corectly, wasn't RA a little surprised that Ben said he saw his mother? Sort of like a, "Wow, no kidding, this is important!" kind of reaction.

I would not be surprised, Lost2010, if there was some kind of reboot like that. I liked Sawyer's hair when it was shorter, in the first two seasons. :-)

lost2010 said...

Rewatch-wise:

In maternity leave, how did Aaron get Roseola. . .don't babies still have to catch that from somewhere? Sure it's common in the general population of babies back in civilization. . .but on an island? I'm sure they'll never go back to it, but it always bugged me a little.

lost2010 said...

Also, in Maternity Leave. Kate holds Aaron for about half the episode. But suddenly in Eggtown she 'isn't good with babies' and won't pick him up. Did she acquire a baby-allergy from Sawyer sometime after Maternity Leave?

memphish said...

In Eggtown Kate had that "oh sh** I might be pregnant, but actually I've just got PMS" baby phobia.

As for the roseola, who knows. It was probably just a heat rash. Spinal surgeons don't know anything about pediatrics. Jack just made that up so he didn't sound totally stupid.

lost2010 said...

So you think Season 6 will end up being all about Jacob the ambiguously-friendly ghost? I really don't care much for that storyline at all.

I was really hoping Claire would play into Season 6 more. I miss Claire.

memphish said...

I have no clue what S6 will be about. I'm leaning toward a time loop/time reset scenario where Claire and Aaron get on the helicopter and leave the Island after Charlie drowns. Desmond's visions were scrambled among time loops. Maybe Penny will also be the one to parachute to the Island instead of Naomi as well. Who knows?

Maven and Scoutpost, you can add a question about Desmond's Claire helicopter flash to the list. I want one or both of you to trap Damon on an elevator and not let him off until he answers all the questions. Got it? :-D

maven said...

lol, Memphish! I think Darlton and us in an elevator would be heavenly!

We are really getting excited as Comic Con approaches...making plans to meet up with people and be part of this experience! The "getting in line at 3AM" plan will definitely screw up my sleep for about a week!

Capcom said...

Memphish, some people are wondering how you arrived at the 100BC point in your timeline, for when the FBs saw the full statue during the flashes. Tx.

memphish said...

I thought I posted a comment on that Capcom. It was just an estimate based on the statue's content. Now we know it could have been anytime before the 1970s according to Ben's statement that it had been destroyed before he got there. We know it was still up in the 1840s. Basically it can't be pinpointed at this time.

lost2010 said...

I started to ask how we know it was still up in the 1840s but then I remembered the scene with Jacob Ford and Blackie Shepherd where the Black Rock was sailing toward them.

memphish said...

Just saw that Harpers Island is available to Watch Instantly on Netflix if any of you who missed it are interested.

Zort70 said...

Hi all,

Just seen this article that talks about ABC being sued over Lost by someone that pitched a similar idea.

Capcom said...

Thanx Memphish for the answer. :-)

Interesting news Zort. Actually, Anthony Spinner is no slouch in the TV business as producer, writer, etc. It will be interesting to see what happens with this, if it has credence. It sounds like his "beef" is strickly with ABC suits and not the Lost creators, per se.

Capcom said...

P.S. Zort, I and an fellow blogger are trying to find some info on the logo on Des' polo shirt when he's talking to Jack and Penny in the stadium. It's a red two-headed phoenix. So far I've only found a connection to "ORDO AB CHAO", which means "order out of chaos", as a old freemason motto. Is that a common thing for him to be wearing in the UK do you think or know? That is, if so, then it would be no big deal and not an issue to persue. Tx. Order out of chaos does kind of reflect Jacob's attitude about his hopes for humankind and their progress, so it's something that we're playing with in the interim, but don't want to waste time on a dead end -- there are just too many dead ends to go around on Lost. :-)

memphish said...

So can this guy who is suing ABC tell us what the heck happened when Juliet detonated the bomb? Cause if he can, then I'd be willing to entertain his case, otherwise get over your bad self dude.

lost2010 said...

I thought somebody already did this and got their name added to the credits as a creator or something. I could have sworn I read about it a while back. Is this a different guy?

Capcom said...

Lost2010, there is a guy who made the original pitch about a castaway show, then ABC hired J.J. to do it instead. As of last season I believe that his name was still on the created-by credits in the beginning of the show. It's on Lostpedia somewhere. But it's not the same guy that has a lawsuit now, I'm pretty sure.

Zort70 said...

Capcom, I don't recognise the logo, although I haven't really had a good look at it.

This is the best picture I could get of it without going back to the episode myself and trying a screencap :

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/happypixie/dezshirt.jpg

The Freemasons connection would be quite odd for what we have seen of Desmonds character. In films / TV series in the UK people usually only join the Freemasons to go undercover to expose some sort of corruption / cover up.

Zort70 said...

However thinking about it it could just be an old football (soccer) shirt logo.

I'll see if I can find one that looks like it.

Zort70 said...

I've had a look around and the one it most reminds me of is a West Germany shirt logo.

http://www.subsidesports.com/uk/images/product/xlarge/CopaGerRetroSS1970.jpg

Forget the colour and the fact that it isn't an exact match, but this logo has gone through many changes over the years.

It would be odd for an English fan to wear a German football (soccer) shirt, but not impossible.

TakesaVillage said...

Sometimes a shirt, is just a shirt.
If it was a red shirt, now that could mean something. Thanks for the doing the leg work, and digging for clues, because mysteries don't solve themselves.
I found a way to get a closer look at The Lost Dharma Initiative DVD.
You can click, and Zoom in, until you can see the smiling face of Horace, and more.

Maven;
Do you remember "The King Of Comedy"? In the movie; the struggling comedian kidnaps, and holds hostage a TV talk show host,in order to appear live on his late night show.I think Damon and Carlton need an intervention, until we get some answers.

Capcom said...

Thanks for your links and info Zort! It does look like a knockoff of the German logo. Heavy metal fans like to wear that logo a lot for some reason too. I got a better closeup of the two heads and put it here, with also some links to uses of the two-headed phoenix (which is where I got the freemason info): link

You're right Village, I think that we had just brought up the shirt logo after we got tired of all the time warp talk, haha.

P.D. Holymoly Village, I didn't know about that DVD release, that's awesome. :-o

I heard about that Dharma DVD set.

I'll just stick with the basics. :)

Just checking in and hoping everyone's having a great summer!

Sayid'sgirl, so it's a fancied-up version on the DVD's? I think I'll stick to the basics, too.

The Emmy nominations are up. Lost got 5 (including Outstanding Drama Series), but no nomination for Josh Holloway or Elizabeth Mitchell?? Of course, William Shatner's name is there... sorry, I don't get it..

maven said...

Congrats to Michael Emerson on his Emmy nomination! And LOST got Best Drama!

We leave for Comic Con in ONE WEEK!

Black Swan said...

Maven, that is sooooo exciting! Better catch some extra sleep this week while you can.. LOL!

Capcom said...

I don't get it either Blacky. Except for what I ranted about last year...it all boils down to politics and agenda. :-p

Black Swan said...

I know, capcom. It seems they are quicker to acknowledge the established hollywood actors. I'm pleased about the Best Drama (Emerson, of course), and Darlton for the writing nod (and it's amazing that they are only up against 4 Mad Men eps for that).

bigdog said...

Hello all, i just had to express my frustration somewhere that Josh & Elizabeth were not nominated for Emmys. although i am glad for the show. i dont even think this was emersons best season.

good i feel better.

Capcom said...

Let it out, Bigdog! We concur.

Well, what I mean about the Emmys for instance Blacky is that, IMNSHO, if "Mad Men" was more like "Leave It To Beaver" than it is like Bob Guccione's "Caligula", it would hardly get noticed, the same way that Lost is hardly acknowleged. "Mad Men" didn't have any well-known actors on it when it began to get all the nominations, it's just more in keeping with Hollywood's current ethics/boundaries-pushing entertainment agenda. But don't mind me, I'm just sick of the punks that are now in charge of Hollywood telling us that good stories about good people are boring. :-p

I guess that Lost requires too much brain-work on the part of the judges and critics to get the recognition that it deserves. They'll probably give it some kind of award after the last season, like the the Oscars withheld awards from the Lord Of The Rings movies until the series was finished. Bah-humbug.

Black Swan said...

Yeah, capcom! I agree (great rant!) It seems every year I get mad at the Emmys.. LOL!

I think they'll wait 'til the last season, too. (and then they'd better rake'em in!)

Capcom said...

Heheh, I guess that I did rant, sorry. :-x I am glad to see that the Mentalist guy got a nom though, I like that show and he's neat.

Scoutpost said...

I agree with the rant, so rant away! I read somewhere that the Emmy's has traditionally slighted sci-fi shows and they gave the example of Star Trek and a few others...so whatever. It IS a lot of politics, you even hear some big stars talking about how award shows are not that respectable any more. I've gotten to where I like to hear more about the lesser known awards, because they seem to have more credit to them.

I'm hoping that maybe next year they will recognize LOST more since it will have been concluded and they can look at it as a whole. Sort of like LOTR didn't get many awards until the third one was done and it was almost like they were awarded for the collective effort. I can hope anyway.

In the meantime....getting really excited about next week!
memphish, I will definitely corner, tackle, and/or kidnap Darlton and ask them your question if you will promise that you'll post bail for me when they arrest me. ;)

maven said...

One more week until getting in line for the LOST panel!

Tess315 said...

I'm finally done. I've watched every episode of all 5 seasons.
I wasn't that impressed with season 5 when I watched during the season. I only really liked 5 or 6
episodes. But I have to say it's much better when watched back to back it flows better.

memphish said...

It's amazing how that happens isn't it Sayid's Girl. I finished re-watching S3 recently which could be my least favorite, but really now it's like ranking your top five ice cream flavors. Your most favorite may really stand out, but it's not like you'd turn down a pint of number 5 either.

Question -- in Episode 4.1 Hurley gets told by ghost Charlie that they need the O6 and that they need to go back, but by the time we're seeing Hurley in the hospital close to the time they indeed go back Hurley doesn't want to go. So was it some "evil" spirit telling Hurley to go back, to not go back? Why the change of heart Hurley? I don't get it.

Capcom said...

I don't either, if Jacob wasn't the deciding factor for him. And that's a good Q as to who was impersonating Charlie, if anyone was.

Are the LostARG admins going to update pertinent Lost ComicCon info as it happens? Or just wait for some kind of ARGness to begin updates? I'd rather go there than slog through the other sites with too much info on them. :-)

Happy Man On The Moon Day everyone, even if it isn't a holiday yet.

Hope to play catch up when we get back to hotel.

So I'm confused. Dan is watching the wreckage of 815 being found and he's crying. But why is he crying? He doesn't know any of these people yet unless he's already made at least one time loop. Because the way I understood it was Daniel, born in approx. 1977/78 lives from 1977 to 2004/05 and then goes back and lives 1974-1977 as a 27-30 year old. But 27 year old Daniel crying at his TV hasn't met any 815ers yet, nor has he been to the Island unless of course he time travelled there while frying his brain though I don't think we've seen anything that would confirm that. I guess there might be things in his journal about the 815ers? Maybe?

Oh no, now I'm more confused. That journal is like the compass. He gets the journal in the 1990s, but his older self filled it with stuff in the 1970s so what the heck does it contain in 2004? I'm strongly beginning to suspect that this group of people are time looping and that we've seen parts of multiple loops and that it's going to take the end of the series for us to figure out what episodes are in which loops or some such thing. If anyone can talk me off this ledge I'd appreciate it.

Capcom said...

Right Memphish, according to Miles (if we can believe Miles about time loops), Dan hasn't met them yet, even if it does happen in the past -- he hasn't been to the future where he meets them there, or to the past where he knows them already. So I have never understood that either. Unless TPTB have a way that they are going to cook up some explanation of that. The way Dan is, I'm just filing it in my brain as that he is a very empathetic person...until further input from TPTB. Cuz I've got no clue. Of course with all the talk of his memory loss, there is plenty of sand in the works there to muck my theory up.

Yes, the journal is like the compass, good point! Someone else was saying another object is like the compass too, but I forget what. Perhaps it was Charlie's guitar.

Maybe a new post should be started here for the ComicCon news, and also to post Maven's CC blog on it? I've got ya posted on the sidebar of my blog already Maven! :-D
