The Story of the Oceanic Six - Season 5, Clip Show

Supposedly offering a new perspective on the Oceanic Six, we're guessing this episode will feature yet another look at the infamous scene on the pier.

You've heard of abc gum? Well this is ABC Lost.

nice one TAV

Black Swan said...

LOL, TAV!

Black Swan said...

Ok, so they showed one thing I've been unclear about. When Claire's mom is talking to Jack at the memorial service, Kate is standing nearby with Aaron in her arms. So, it looks like what they said tonight is that Kate DID hear their conversation and knows that woman (Claire's mom) is Aaron's grandma. Do I have this right?

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey, everyone!

I haven't had ANY time to get on here lately, and I'm recording the clip show right now. Darn life gets in the way!

This week's TV Guide had a little article about the finale (if it hows up online, I'll post it at Spoiler Fixed). A couple of the cast members mention their favorite scenes - Jorge Garcia's is Hurley sharing the candy bar with Ben (which is also one of my favorites) and Ken Leung's is when Bernard finds out Rose is still alive. Too cute!

TakesaVillage said...

ML;
That's where I heard about Hurley's favorite scene.
Black Swan,I had the feeling Kate overheard. In fact it seemed she turned so that G'ma couldn't get too good a look at Aaron.

TakesaVillage said...

Pier 66.

Black Swan said...

Thanks, TAV. I always thought Kate overheard Jack and Mrs. Littleton's conversation, but then someone told me she didn't, so it was interesting to me that tonight's show implied that she did. So, I'm back to believing what I first thought (which makes Kate even worse for keeping Aaron for her own selfish reasons).

Black Swan said...

Melissa, I've seen that tv guide article. I agree with Jin's.. that the opening shot of the whole series with the crash scene on the beach was so amazing (and set the tone for the rest of the series). The pilot was amazing, got me hooked, and I've been hooked ever since!

TakesaVillage said...

Me too Black Swan.
I liked the show, but was hoping for a little more.
I hate to fly off, but I've got a 4:10 wakeup call.
You should be getting some more Loco's soon. See you in the Pond.

Black Swan said...

Whew.. that's early, TAV! Good-nite!

I guess there wasn't much interest in this clip show. Casual Lost viewers probably appreciated the summation, but not really anything new for us.

lost2010 said...

Did I miss anything? Should I find it and watch it before next week?

Black Swan said...

naw, you didn't miss anything new, lost 2010

Capcom said...

Pretty uneventful for us, IMHO. But at least we got to see it in chron-order. And YAY! We got to see the Pier scene AGAIN! Thank goodness, I have been so unsure about what actually happened on the pier! :-B

I would kind of prefer if TPTB/ABC showed out-takes, bloopers, and deleted scenes instead of recaps like this.

lost2010 said...

What would you have ever done without a weekly viewing of that peer scene, Capcom! LOL

lost2010 said...

peer = pier. . . .I haven't been drinking I promise.

Capcom said...

Heheh, yeah, I should add that to the Lost drinking game that I'll play some day. :o)

BTW this recap made Jack seem very calm and sure of his new self. I guess that I'll try to think of him in that way from now on.

lost2010 said...

I won't look it up then - when I flipped past it Jack was telling Kate that they have to go BACK again.

Scenes I wouldn't mind never seeing again:

Jack and Kate at the airstrip.
Sawyer and Kate in the chopper.
The Pier Scene.

And I liked all those scenes the first time I watched them, oddly enough.
The scene where Locke wiggles his toes.

memphish said...

I watched an hour late so I could fast forward. The most important thing I learned -- Widmore faked the 815 wreckage was CONFIRMED, assuming the clip show is in any way, shape or form canon.

The other thing that stood out to me was Richard telling Locke he had to bring the O6 back in order to save those left behind. Tomorrow I'm going to go back and look at transcripts for those Locke/Richard encounters during the flashes and also what Christian told Locke. There's a bit of a chicken/egg problem with Locke telling Richard telling Locke and a) he may be completely wrong or b) Richard could be lying to get Locke to leave after all the flashes stopped but thankfully not before Charlotte died but in time to save the rest or c) it could be the case that their lives will be saved in the next 4 hours.

Also Ilana appears to be a darn good liar when she tells Sayid about answering for Avellino because I think that's merely a cover. And do bounty hunters get special passes to go through the metal detectors with people in handcuffs or is she law enforcement? Maybe she's Sheriff Isabelle's replacement. Or Sheriff LaFleur's.

Tess315 said...

Ilana flashed a badge. So it was either fake or she was a law officer.

Bounty hunters aren't suppose to carry badges.

Beverly said...

I thought Jack had told Kate about Mrs Littleton being Claire's mother. What he left out was that Claire was his sister.

One of my co-workers said that he thought that there was a scene with Sun and Miles' father either last season or this season. I don't remember such an episode. Does anyone here remember such a thing? I think he was mistaken.

Tess315 said...

Also she obviously knew the plane was going to crash. She's with the "shadow people".

I just wonder if she knew Sayid would be going back in time? She doesn't seem to concerned about her missing prisoner. Or if she knew any of them were going back in time?

Ellen said...

Watched the clip show, and the only thing I saw confirmed was that Kate overheard the conversation between Jack and Carol Littleton at the funeral. So Kate knew then, that she was Aaron's grandmother/Claire's Mom. Can't say I have much respect for her even now.
xxoo

Black Swan said...

Lostit, I don't think there was ever a scene with Sun and Mile's father (Chang), but there WAS a scene with Sun and Jin's father.

Sayid'sgirl, good point about Ilana not being concerned about losing her prisoner.

Ellen, that's what I was talking about. It makes it even more selfish of Kate to keep Aaron after having met the grandma face-to-face holding her grandson! After seeing the scene earlier this year with Kate and Jack on Penny's boat, it was obvious to me that Aaron was a Sawyer replacement. And now seeing that Kate knew at the memorial service that Aaron was Mrs. Littleton's grandson, I'm starting to think my friend's theory is right that Kate is unable to have children of her own.

lost2010 said...

I believe Sawyer and Jack are well acquainted with a top notch fertility specialist if Kate'll ever pick one of them out to have children with though. . .oh wait. . .that might be a little awkward.

Black Swan said...

ROFL!!

Melissa_Lossa said...

ARRRGHHHHH!! I may have just inadvertently read a HUGE spoiler!!! Crap!!

If any of you read Ausiello, avoid the comments on today's Ask Ausiello column at all costs!!

Melissa_Lossa said...

I always assumed that Kate knew about Claire and Claire's mom because of the "You're not even related to him!" comment that Jack makes during their break-up fight.

Because she doesn't retaliate with "neither are you!" I always assumed that she knew Jack IS related to Aaron, whether she overheard it at the funeral, or he told her later.

Zort70 said...

Bad luck if it was a spoiler, I hope it is a good one though :-)

Melissa_Lossa said...

zort - let's just say it's something I wish I didn't know, for a lot of reasons.

The only saving grace is, I think it pertains to the next episode, so hopefully I can stay spoiler free after that. What a burden! :)

Zort70 said...

Treat the spoiler like a Columbo murder, you know who dit it but you don't know how Columbo is going to work it out.

Tess315 said...

I always thought Kate knew that Mrs. Littleton was Aaron's grandmother too. Whether at the memorial or not. She AND Jack had 3 years to do the right thing and didn't.

It wasn't until Ben forced her hand that she gave Aaron to her.

Tess315 said...

But of course if she did, especially early on there would be questions why she was giving "her" baby to a total stranger.

melissa
Sorry you were spoiled. It's so hard not to be if you want to share the experience of Lost.

Twinkle said...

I haven't watched the clip episode yet but recorded it. Widmore faking the 815 crash adds a new dimension to the cover-up. Widmore could very well still be acting in what he thinks in the best interest of the island, apart from the effect the cover-up had on our Losties.

maven said...

I was watching the clip show last night, and we had a split-second power surge and the TV went black and now all I get is a blue screen. Was on hold all morning with Directv, Mitsubishi, and lastly, Geek Squad (extended warranty) who cannot get here until next Thursday! That means LOST next week with no HD! :(

Sound like I didn't miss a thing. At least it was a clip show and not a new one!

Sorry about the spoiler, ML! That sucks. You never know where you can run into them.

I don't know if they are suppose to or not, I live in Colorado and Dog the Bounty Hunter was just on the news today and he and his crew were wearing badges.

To be fair you're probably right.
Different states have different laws.

But for the purposes of the show Lost they were in an LA airport and California does not permit them to use badges.

lurkergirl said...

Sayid'sgirl,

Sorry I came off as argumentative or wanting to be right I didn’t mean to, I was just saying what I had seen.

Heck, to be fair “Dog” does a lot of things he’s not supposed too… lol :)

Tess315 said...

Oh no, I didn't take it as argumentative at all.

And I wasn't trying to be argumentative with you. Sorry if it came across that way.

I was just trying to say that's the way I look at it, based on the search I did.

Dog isn't the only one that does things his way either TPTB take alot of poetic license sometimes. ;)

memphish said...

Well I had posted a question about the bounty hunter badge, but apparently blogger had no interest in publishing it.

As for LOST getting legal details correct, don't get me started on Eggtown. I'll bet if the writers saw Dog do it they figured they'd do it too. Still if Ilana is a 3rd party, maybe her day job is law enforcement that would entitle her to a badge.

Now, publish blogger! Publish!

BTW, I have moved in the Facebook world. What's the best way to let people know how to find you on that when you don't generally use your name? I've found Maven and Ellen. If I link you to my page does that work? If so here, I think.

maven said...

Memphish: That link will work. I could send you a list of suggestions from the TLC people here.

memphish said...

Do you think Widmore faked the 815 freckage just to keep anyone from searching anywhere in the Pacific or did he have info. that 815 had crashed on the Island? And if he did, who provided that info?

Melissa_Lossa said...

Widmore must have had a reason to at least suspect that 815 was on the island - they were way of course when they crashed, and he placed the wreckage even further off course, presumably to keep searches away from the island.

2costa said...

memphis i think they worded it very ambiguously, they said widmore was responsible for the fake recovery of 815, not actually placing it there. Knowing that felix was going to tell widmore could explain why, he did a fake recovery, since he knew it was a fake. I'd like to think widmore faked the plane as well

Tess315 said...

I was thinking Widmore faked the wreckage to keep search parties away from the island.

He would have had to know 815 crashed. You have a good question on who gave him that information.

Maybe it was his own search party that was looking for the island.

lurkergirl said...

Sayid'sgirl,

No I didn’t think you were I just thought you thought I was. That’s one of the problems with bloging not enough normal social interaction cues. lol

memphish,

I would bet that too, if not one of the writers one of the people in Hawaii because Dog has shops there also. I’m sure someone along the line has either seen him on the news or on his show and went with it.

Okay back to lurking for me… lol
;)

memphish said...

Do you think Widmore fakes any plane that may crash over the Pacific? :-)

I'm going to give it a re-listen tonight and try to get a transcription. Lostpedia has let me down on that point.

Capcom said...

That's what I thought too about what they said about Wid and the freckage, 2costa. I'll have to give it another watch to make sure. It would be haha-funny (and I suppose weird-funny) if Bram's DI-babies were the ones that put the freckage there, and then that put Ben and Widmore at each other's throats thinking that the other one put it there, and they'd be blaming each other for nothing. X-D

Don't just lurk Lurkergirl! Your input is good! :-D

Twinkle said...

Hey! I just finished the clip show, great episode to work in the kitchen during. You don't have to pay as much attention.

So Ilana arrested Sayid for the murder of one of the dudes Ben had him murder, right? All those dudes were supposedly working for Widmore. What if she's using partial truth? I was primarily on the "third party" band wagon, but now I see the possibility that she is working with Widmore.

IF that's true, then who told Widmore that that flight to Guam would end up on the island? Is Hawking feeding him information? Is it the same person who told him flight 815 was on the island?

memphish said...

Well Bram sure didn't seem to be on Widmore's side, but as I've said before I'd almost prefer the shadow people to be Widmore's than a 3rd party at this late date.

I also still like the idea that Hawking is a sort of oracle, or a sort of Ben opposite in that she can't tell a lie, but the key is to ask her the right question. That would explain why she'd work with Ben but Widmore would also know where she is. It doesn't really fit with her first encounter with Desmond, but until I get more info. it's what I'm going with.

memphish said...

So I rewatched the clip show part about Widmore. It says he "staged the recovery" of Flight 815. To me that says he faked the crash and then sent the boat that Sam joined out to "find" it.

Capcom said...

Well yep, it sounds like that to me too, Memphish. Tx for the clarification. :-)

Zort70 said...

I think the islanders ought to do this with all the planes that keep appearing :

No major damage. There aren't any modern day faults there but there some ancient ones.

Ellen said...

@Sayid'sgirl - ooooo...glad no damage. We had a small shake in that same range in Atlanta area just a couple months ago. First one I ever actually "felt" here. Wonder if those old faults we have here in the eastern US are becoming active again...:(

Capcom said...

Hey Lurkergirl, your comments are just a good as all of ours! It's all good here. :-D

You know, to nitpick the phrase "the recovery", it could still just mean that Wid negotiated the "recovery" of the freckage, not the "planting". But for sure, it mostly sounds like they were saying that he did the entire process because who the heck would randomly find the freckage in that spot, way down there? It's just that TPTB have been so ambiguous about whodunnitt up to this point, would they just tell us outright in a Lost-For-Dummies recap? I dunno, I'm just sayin'. :-o

I think that TPTB have created a new mental defiency: "Lost Syndrome" -- i.e., never trusting anything that you see or hear even if it's right in front of your eyes, because it could mean something else entirely, or it's all lies.

Capcom said...

Whoa, glad everything's OK Sayidsgirl!

2costa said...

i think hawkings is the third party and she is the leader of the shadows. I'm pretty sure that if the shadows are dharma it's not a new third party. The purge didn't kill the dharma leaders in ann arbor or hanso. I hold out a small hope that hanso and mittlewerk to a lesser degree will be involved. It would make sense that hawkings is working with dharma how else would she have sole access to the lamp post, dharma wouldn't just forget about that station. Daniel could be the bridge that links his mom, eloise to dharma. Widmore may not even know about a lot of the dharma stuff. Maybe dharma truly thought radzinsky or kelvin were still doing their job in the swan until locke pressed 77 on the flame computer.

Zort70 said...

Sayid'sgirl, I'm afraid I'm the wrong person to talk to about earthquakes as I have slept through two at about that magnitude.

My ability to sleep overcame my ability to wake up !

Tess315 said...

lol Yeah it wasn't a monumental moment, just unusual in Ohio. The last one of that size was in 1974.

memphish said...

Nitpicking is what LOST's all about Capcom!

But you raise a good point. If Widmore intercepted Ben's people with the papers about the graves and the plane he could stage the recovery, though I don't know what he'd gain by that vs. waiting to let Ben or some 3rd party find 815.

Lurkergirl you're comments are great. Keep 'em coming!

Dang you blogger, you didn't post my comment for hours again!

memphish said...

Sorry that last comment is so out of order. Who knows how long it sat there waiting for me to publish it a SECOND time.

Just found this from Erika at Long Live Locke. I'll use spaces instead of italics to separate it since italics and spacing aren't going together well on Blogger lately.

From a check [Lara Chang] wrote later in the scene, the year was revealed to be 1985; therefore, the newborn boy we saw in the season premiere must now be about eight years old.

I totally missed that date. I need to get back to my timeline, but it's been too daunting lately. Maybe next week.

Here's hoping this posts!

maven said...

Sayid'sgirl: Living in So. Calif., earthquakes are second-nature to us, but big news for you guys!

Yes, Memphish, it's first time that I saw that too in Erika's blog about the check. Didn't realize it was visible.

Today is the first time i have seen the comic-con video with Chang. I have seen it mentioned several times. I didnt follow the last ARG. Was it revealed who is making the video or who the source was?

memphish said...

Bigdog, everyone thinks it sounds like Daniel, but there's been no confirmation.

BarbaraJay said...

I was flipping channels last night and came across a LOST rerun on the SciFi Channel (or SyFy as they plan to call themselves...don't get me started.) The episode was Meet Kevin Johnson. I had forgotten that Tom, after asking Arturo to give them some privacy, showed Michael the proof of Widmore faking the freckage.

I think the Shadow People are with Richard. Maybe he is fed up with Ben's shenanigans and has started his own operation.

bigdog said...

good. at first i thought miles than i thought daniel as well.

Amused2bHere said...

hmm imho that's definitely Daniel's voice behind the video with Chang...I'm not sure he says LeFleur's name, though, as most people are saying.

bigdog said...

so are we to assume daniel left the island within the two day grace period that Horace gave them. went to Ann Arbor and tracked down the degroots. or that he stayed awhile under the cover sawyer created and was promoted to work with Ann Arbor.

memphish said...

I figure next week's episode will clear up all those questions. I'm wondering if the scene in the opening episode of Daniel in the Orchid is pre- or post- trip to Ann Arbor. I'd guess pre since Chang doesn't seem to recognize him as someone important. But when the sub comes back it's Chang who has to go meet the VIPs from Ann Arbor.

memphish said...

Since Widmore got banned from the Island by sub, how does he know about the exit point in Tunisia?

maven said...

Well, he must have someone on the inside amongst the Others. Of course, how do they communicate?

memphish said...

I really like the idea that Widmore has an insider continuing to feed him info from Ben's Camp.

Capcom said...

It would be great, and make a lot of sense, if Wid was able to get info from one of the remaining Others (one possibly that didn't like Ben), that's a neat idea.

I will be so ticked off if we don't get any Faraday time next ep, after he shows up on the dock last time. Hopefully since we are so close to the endpoint, TPTB will need to get to that right away.

Whether the allegations are true or false, I'll never understand why people wait years to file complaints.

It always make me doubt the allegations. Which is a shame if they are true.

Capcom said...

I agree Sayidsgirl. From what is reported, it has the earmarks of those that have turned out to not be true. And being as famous as he is now, you'd think that if it was real, his coworkers and peeps from the Lost crew would have leaked out what a creep he was, you can't keep that kind of info down these days. But no one has done that as yet, and on the contrary, seem to have said that of her. I hope it's not true of course, that would be bad, especially if she really was treated poorly for it if it's real.

memphish said...

I know none of the facts of the case, but I would caution people not to make judgments based on the filing date. In employment related cases you are often required to jump through other resolution hoops such as EEOC filings and arbitration before you are permitted to actually file a lawsuit.

Capcom said...

I agree Memphish, who knows about why it took so long. There are most definitely the Unions involved here as well.

Characteristically speaking though, it seems that it would have come out through the Lost crew grapevine a long time ago, if true. We'll see how it goes. :-o

Tess315 said...

I wasn't trying to make a judgement. I don't know the details etither.

Just voicing my opinion.
Right or wrong it does make people wonder. And it's a shame that it happens, especially in cases when the charges are true.

Amused2bHere said...

as for the Widmore mole in Ben's camp...my vote is Richard. He seems to be the only one that might be able/willing to stay in touch with Charles in spite of Ben.

Richard Alpert seems to follow rules only he knows about...answering to a "higher authority", maybe?

memphish said...

That's at least a fun theory to play with. Richard certainly worked to undermine Ben with Locke. I'm pretty sure it was Richard who revealed to the rest of the Others that a man from 815 who could not walk before the flight regained his ability to walk on the Island. I wonder if Richard might also have been responsible for sending Ben on whatever mission Ben was up to when he got caught by Rousseau in her net. That was certainly a case of what goes around comes around or vice versa.

Richard also told Ben he didn't have to see Widmore off on the sub. Perhaps he wanted to pass some message along to Widmore then without Ben knowing. As much as Richard traveled on and off the Island it seems it would be easy for him to keep Widmore up to date. Though why Widmore or Richard wouldn't reveal that to Locke remains a big logic gap in this hole conspiracy theory.

Capcom said...

Haha, that would be funny if RA sent Ben to get snagged by Rousseau. X-D

As for the H.I.C. problem, Sayidsgirl I think that you were just wondering if it took her 1 1/2 years to file the first complaint, right? The nuance in the query about that is, A)did she file right away and it took the system 1 1/2 years to serve the charge, or, B)did she wait over a year to make any kind of complaint at all. There's a big difference between the two. Hopefully it's all a bunch of nothing and we won't be seeing any mug shots of H.I.C. in the tabloids. :-p

maven said...

I like the idea that Richard is Widmore's mole! Richard could have realized that they made a major mistake siding with Ben who got overly involved in the fertility issues and brought the Others to live in the luxury of New Otherton and not off the island. Maybe Richard wants Widmore back to bring the Others back to their roots.

Capcom said...

Maven, that would go nicely with the hissy fit that Locke had over the way that Ben was living. Perhaps that was a hint from TPTB? :-)
