Some Like it Hoth - Season 5, Episode 13

In tonight's episode, Ben is abducted from the infirmary, arousing concern that hostiles have gotten into the Dharma village again. Meanwhile, Hurley and a reluctant Miles team up to deliver a package to a Dharma bigwig.

Looks like it's also time for a little Miles back story.

I think that we can all agree that whatever happens,
Miles + Hurley = Awesome.

HEy you guys moved on me. ;)
As I said in the last post.
Miles!

I'm here...so far so good! I loved the opening scene.

Black Swan said...

Well, as Juliet said.. here we go...

Black Swan said...

and I'm so mad, I missed the beginning!!!! who is Miles' father??

Melissa_Lossa said...

They haven't said, Swan. Just that he's dead and that his body is somewhere Miles can't go.

Black Swan said...

A filling getting blown through his head?

Black Swan said...

thanks Melissa.. gotta be the Island!

acewebguy said...

So is Radzinski and his crew building the Swan?

Ashlee said...

They've found the magnetic thing that the swan is not yet built over. That is how his filling was pulled through his skull. When you dig you bend over, he could have been at the correct angle for the filling to penetrate the skull. Mile's father is buried on the island I'm fairly certain.

TakesaVillage said...

Hurley
Turd Weigher

Black Swan said...

Chang is his father!!
thanks, ashlee!

Ellen said...

Finally...confirmation about Miles' Dad!

memphish said...

So I think I finally figured out why Daniel, Miles and Charlotte on the Freighter. They were recreating the way some group found the Island just like Flight 316 was recreating the circumstances of 815. Yes, they were able to do some stuff once there, but it was about finding the Island more than about what they might do there.

Black Swan said...

Can you guys tell me if I'm correct that Ben's office (from last weeks' ep) is on Hydra Island?

Ellen said...

TAV - ! LOL!
xxoo

memphish said...

I loved the Tommy Lasorda Sports Illustrated cover and the Captain and Tenille. They also played It Never Rains in Southern California. Don't know the group.

Tess315 said...

That was Mrs. Chang with young Miles in the opener.

Tess315 said...

Hurley's killing me.

Black Swan said...

I recognized the swan hatch door right away!

Ashlee said...

Yes Swan, I'm fairly certain Ben's office is on Hydra Island.

Black Swan said...

Sayid'sgirl, Hurley's cracking me up, too.. as the voice of the audience, he's got the questions and statements for us! LOL!

memphish said...

Ben was using that office on the Hydra during the cage episodes. I don't know if he used it all the time. I think there's a deleted scene with Alex in S3 in that office. I wonder if that photo might even be in it.

Black Swan said...

Thanks again, Ashlee!

TakesaVillage said...

Anyone catch the Egyptian class work? Maybe some clues there.

Melissa_Lossa said...

I love Hurley. :)

Tess315 said...

Maybe the incident is finding jughead.
Or the others finding the DI in their area. hmmmm

Melissa_Lossa said...

That guy is with Ilana on the island!

Melissa_Lossa said...

I guess they don't work for Widmore.

Ashlee said...

OoOoOoo Hurley, that's dishonest.

Black Swan said...

Melissa... I thought he looked familiar!!

TakesaVillage said...

Here we go is right.

memphish said...

Well we know why 3.2 million finally.

Not real happy about Bram and his shadow. Bram, as in Stoker? As in Dracula? Are we going to get vampires too?

So do Bram and Ilana work for Ben or a 3rd party? The idea of a 3rd party -- heavy sigh.

Tess315 said...

TAV I think the chalk board was a lesson on reading and writing heiroglyphics.

lost2010 said...

Did everyone else have sound for that last 15 minutes? Anybody want to fill me on on what Jack, Sawyer and Juliet said - - what was in Hurley's notebook - - and why Sawyer just punched Phil out?

Black Swan said...

Right! That pretty much negates an Ilana and Widmore connection!

memphish said...

Oh no Lost2010!

This hour has flown.

lost2010 said...

That Bram guy is the big guy from October Road that I was telling you guys I recognized among the 316 survivors.

Tess315 said...

Basicly Jack told James the Roger was supicious of Kate but he took care of it.

Hurley was writing the Empire Strikes Back with his own twists and wants to sell it to Lucas.

Phil has a tape showing Sawyer with Ben.

Ashlee said...

JSJ were discussing how Roger thinks Kate is involved in Ben's disappearance.

Hurley was trying to write the sequel to Star Wars (The Empire Strikes Back)

Sawyer punched him because he knows Sawyer and Kate took Ben.

Tess315 said...

Changs not DI?

Daniel?!

Ashlee said...

"Miles, I need you." What a powerfully poignant line.

Twinkle said...

I'm here. Such a cool episode!

lost2010 said...

Thanks guys! That'll tide me over for 2 weeks I guess. :)

How many episodes are left this year anyway?

memphish said...

A small episode, but I loved it. I loved the humor. The idea of Hurley writing Empire. Miles telling the dad he should have told his son he loved him when he had the chance (boy, that's a recurrent theme). And then DAN! From Ann Arbor!

Next week is going to be awful with a clip show. 2 weeks is going to seem like an eternity.

Twinkle said...

I'm watching the ep on a 15 min delay. I thought you guys were kidding about the Empire Strikes Back thing!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, crazy theory - is it possible that Dan is somehow Charles DeGroot?

I have no idea how that would even work, but it was the first thing I thought of.

Melissa_Lossa said...

2010 - there's four more after this.

lost2010 said...

I've never seen Empire Strikes Back in it's entirety. . .I wouldn't have recognized Hurley's twists. All I'm sure I've seen of that one is the light sabre battled at the end.

memphish said...

But the last 2 hours air on the same night.

Twinkle said...

Good thing Sawyer is a con man. Nobody else could have kept up with all these deceptions.

Black Swan said...

So Daniel has been in Ann Arbor (at UofM with the DeGroots.. I've been wondering where he's been...

Twinkle said...

Hey! I love Ewoks!

lost2010 said...

Oh, I guess we found out that Sawyer knows more than he's shared. He's part of Horace's Circle of Trust - - or he was - - looks like the Circle won't be unbroken. . .

Tess315 said...

melissa
The first thing I thought was we'd see the DeGroots get off the sub.

So is this before we see Daniel in the Orchid in the season opener?

lost2010 said...

The Ewoks were my favorite part of the whole Star Wars trilogy. . .no wonder I never root for the right people on this show.

Twinkle said...

Mile's dad totally sent him away because he found out about the Purge.

Black Swan said...

Ashlee, I agree that was the most poignant moment of the episode.

The Empire Strikes back was my favorite.. (you liked the Ewoks, twinkle?.. LOL)

memphish said...

I guess it was the Circle of Trust who decided to kill Sayid.

Tess315 said...

Good thought Twinkle.

Did Daniel have a time jump we don't know about? Or did he take the sub back to the main land?

memphish said...

Empire was the best. Then A New Hope. Then Return of the Jedi. Of the prequels only the 3rd is worth even considering watching more than once. Kiddo likes the new Clone Wars cartoons on Cartoon Network though.

Tess315 said...

The Swan is hidden by a hedged/vined gate. Some how I don't see the Others not finding it.

memphish said...

I'm betting Daniel left on the sub. Maybe he showed "promise" and Chang sent him to study with the DeGroots. Kind of like he promised Hurley the polar bear demotion. I'll bet Daniel leaving on the sub also has something to do with Juliet not leaving on it. He left to test out his theories like what happened, happened. Now that he's back he'll tell Chang (and Charlotte's mom) about the Purge and make the Comic Con video, then baby Miles and Charlotte will leave.

Black Swan said...

Sayid'sgirl, I'm thinking Daniel took the sub to Ann Arbor.. no time travelling... just that he was a scientist like on a convention.. lol! Just guessing...

The purge isn't until the late 80's or early 90's, so Chang sent Miles away earlier than that

memphish said...

I'm still guessing there is something about that Swan area that the Hostiles avoid it. Possibly Jughead, though that's not what's going to cause the Incident. That was electro-magnetism they're going to have to seal up. Killed by your own filling. That's Fringe worthy.

Twinkle said...

And now could Hurley of all people not like the Ewoks! "Voice of the people" indeed.

Anyway, when we get answers there're not a lot of questions to generate conversation. I miss that, but we got a little more to discuss in this episode.

Not sure if Miles first worked the underground construction of the Orchid or is about to do it. The Orchid they were building was loads bigger than what is there in 2004. Something must have happened.

What was the dead guy working on in the middle of the jungle that caused his filling to fly through is head? It didn't seem that he was at the Orchid or the Swan.

So who are the "What lies in the shadow of the statue" people? I'm going with third party. Maybe the coming war is between them and Widmore/Ben/Alpert?

TakesaVillage said...

Maybe Miles, and Daniel tell Chang about the coming Purge, and he sends Miles, and his Mom away for their own safety. He couldn't tell her the truth.
Dharma had many secrets, with multiple circles of trust.
Hurley shined tonight.
Now to make room for the next circle of Lost fans. Good night Loco's.

lost2010 said...

I'm going with them being the DHARMA BABIES!!!!!

They're the right age.

lost2010 said...

The shadow people I mean.

Tess315 said...

Twinkle
I keep thinking the answer is the temple. Someone suggested the well last week.

It seems Other-ish to me.

Black Swan said...

Just sent to me by someone at myspace...the truth about ewoks

lost2010 said...

The underdog defender is coming out in me. . .must track down and change avatar to an Ewok.

Twinkle said...

Memphis: Fringe worthy indeed.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Twinkle, I totally agree that Chang sent Miles and mum away because of the purge - we know from the comic con video that he knew about before it happened.

I also agree that the ewoks are awesome. :)

And with that, good night. Have to go nurse a migraine. :(

lost2010 said...

Ah, that's better.

Tess315 said...

lol lost2010
I got to admit I liked the Ewoks too.

Tess315 said...

Sorry you have another migraine melissa.
Get some rest.

Black Swan said...

Sorry if I offended any Ewok lovers... your new avi is cute, lost2010

Twinkle said...

Yes, what lies in the shadow of the statue is the temple. I just don't have the vibe that Ilana/Bram club are with Ben. Tonight might have proved they aren't with Widmore.

Maybe the old Egyptian island inhabitants have had a secret society going off island and are taking it over now because they are unhappy with how Alpert's running the place? It would be like TPTB to put Ben and Widmore on the same side for the upcoming "war."

As for Ewoks, I was a kid the first time I saw the movie. The whole thing was scary and a bit much for me at that age. Then came the part with the Ewoks who helped save the day. They made the movie for me.

Black Swan said...

(But, I have to agree with Hurley... LOL!)

I was googling Hoth today which sent me to a wiki page which let me to this wiki page... just thought it was interesting.. Snowball Earth

Tess315 said...

I keep finding myself agreeing with you Twinkle.
I don't get the vibe that Ilana is with Ben either.

And a team up of Ben and Widmore against the Others sound reasonable.

And just where are those pesky Others in 2007?

Black Swan said...

Twinkle, I like your ideas!

And that explains it, you're younger than me.. LOL! I was falling in love with Hans Solo and couldn't care less about the ewoks!

Twinkle said...

Great avatar, Lost 2010. Funny pic, Black Swan. No offense taken. Associations formed in childhood are hard to shake.

May everyone have a peaceful and recuperative night!

Oh, another observation. Maybe it was the influence of our Losties, maybe it was that compassion Ben has towards kids, but have you noticed that every child we know of being part of Dharma before the purge, did not die in it? Ben's friend, Annie, is the only question mark.

Ethan - joined the Others
Charlotte - left the island
Miles - left the island
More?

Black Swan said...

I'm thinking the Incident comes before the Purge and Chang was also told about that.. remember how he was looking at his arm in the comic-con video? So, I'm thinking he sent away Miles and his Mom (same with Charlotte) because of the Incident (which I'm guessing has something to do with building the Swan and Jughead)

lost2010 said...

Black Swan - It's okay. I guess you had to be a certain age to have watched the whole thing between your fingers whispering to your dad, "Tell me when the little furry things come back."

lost2010 said...

Always a pleasure. See you guys next week. . .

Black Swan said...

I don't know Twinkle.. I think the kids of the inner circle may have been saved, but there were enough other kids to fill a classroom and we won't know about their fate..

Black Swan said...

Good-night lost2010! Yeah, the ewok thing is definitely related to age... LOL!

Tess315 said...

Blk Swan
Yeah, definitely the incident was before the purge.
The incident was sometime before 1980 the date on the Swan video.
The purge was 1992 or at least sometime in the early '90s.

You have a point he did look at his arm so Daniel must have told him everything.

Twinkle said...

If they are "Others," they seem more of the Alpert kind. Not to racially profile, but they all have less Caucasian looks than our other Others. Maybe that's intentional, maybe not.

Hafta say though that if the Original Others are coming back to cleanse the island from the people who've corrupted it and multiplied on it like a virus (though not by having babies!), I'm kind of on their side. The coming war could be another purge.

The only question that bugs me is where does Jacob fit into all this?

Twinkle said...

Lost2010 said: I guess you had to be a certain age to have watched the whole thing between your fingers whispering to your dad, "Tell me when the little furry things come back."ROFLSHNEMB!

Black Swan said...

Twinkle, I think the shadow people are team-Jacob!

Tess315 said...

lol Have to agree again.
If they are original others, I'm on their side too.

It will probably be the last 10 minutes of the series finale before we find out what/who Jacob is.

Twinkle said...

I like the idea of them being sent away because of the Incident. I hope we get to see that!

Tess315 said...

Shadow people = team Jacob.
I like that.

Twinkle said...

Shadow people? Is that what we're calling the people who abducted Miles in the van? Or did I miss something? I saw that term earlier too.

Tess315 said...

Yes. What's in the "shadow" of the statue?

Twinkle said...

Ok. Now I get it!

Memphish: So Miles wanted 3.2 million because Widmore was paying him 1.6 million?

If everyone on the island is supposedly still following Jacob's orders, why would he need a team to infiltrate the island?

Also, last season's finale showed the Others under Alpert leaving to take refuge in the Temple.

What in the temple makes people not quite right? The Smoke Monster? I guess we still have plenty of questions.

Black Swan said...

The shadow people are also the ones with team Ilana on the Hydra Island? maybe not.. (I don't like her)

Black Swan said...

I keep getting the feeling that the big silver crate that Ilana's got on the Hydra Island beach has a body in it.. preserved like Locke's and ready for reincarnation.. I know.. crazy thought!

Tess315 said...

Blk Swan
That's what I'm thinking. I don't like Ilana either.

Tess315 said...

I just assumed it was weapons.

Twinkle said...

Yes, I confirmed on Wikipedia that the guy who talked with Miles in the van is the guy with Ilana on the island. Memphish and Lost 2010 noticed too.

It also said they were trying to open a case in the scene where they knock out Frank. It looked to me more like they were adding poles to carry the case. In fact it looked remarkably like either carrying a coffin or carrying the Ark of the Covenant. My thought was that they were readying it to carry to the Temple and there's something important in the case. A Smoke Monster-ette?

Twinkle said...

Wrote mine before I read yours. It's something significant and I bet they want to take it to the Temple.

Twinkle said...

Maybe if the Smoke Monster just fell in love it could leave off judging people?!

Tess315 said...

Bram told Miles if he didn't know what, "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" means he wasn't ready to go to the island.

I wonder what that means.

Tess315 said...

I think I'm going to re watch now.
See if I missed anything.

Black Swan said...

Thanks for that picture, Twinkle! ROFL! .. "Maybe if the Smoke Monster just fell in love it could leave off judging people?!"

Ok, Sayid'sgirl.. hope you can explain it all to us after your second viewing!

Tess315 said...

lol No nothing I can explain.
I did notice a constuction paper turkey with multi colored feathers hanging on a filing cabinet in the classroom.

Depending on how long it's been there it mean it's around Thanksgiving.

Oh and a picture by the chalkboard near the door I couldn't make out.

Well time for bed. Night.

Amused2bHere said...

I think I need to watch that again!

aw did we call that Miles/Chang connection or what?

Maybe the DI's storming the gates to retrieve a kidnapped Ben is what starts the big war that ultimately leads to the purge-as-revenge of the DI by the Others...Ben didn't lead it, he just was the mole that helped orchestrate the use of the Tempest station for the spreading of the gas.

All this has happened before...oh wow.

Tess315 said...

Thought I'd post these before I go to bed.
I found them interesting.

Not sure what this is but I'm sure someone here does.

linkWhat this says is intersting to me.

Tess315 said...

That second sentence should be between the two links. I don't know why I've been having trouble with posting something that is spaced when I write it but it doesn't post that way.

maven said...

IMO, good episode:

Young Miles always heard dead people. The microwave said 3:16 and the dead guy was in room 4.

What's going on in Grid 334? The 2 guys carrying out the body were wearing hard hats. Constructing the Swan?

Punk Miles reminded me of Goth Claire! LOL

Dying Mom is very cryptic about Miles' dad. He wants to talk to his body, but it's somewhere you can't go. All things are pointing to Chang.

Funny line by Hurley about car pooling to help with global warming that hasn't happened yet.

Hurley is writing in a journal with a new DI logo: Cap on school books...School Hatch?

Miles and Hurley are so great together. "You're just jealous my power is better than yours." Hahaha

Chang has always thought that the DI was doing "ridiculous experiments on Hydra Island."

At last...confirmation on Miles dad being Chang!

Love how Miles "audition" with Naomi references Widmore planning the fake 815.

Need a screen cap of the chalk board and the Egyptian stuff.

Love the Hurley/Miles/Chang scene!

Awesome moment with chiseling the numbers into the hatch door! "They're building the hatch that took down our plane."

Bram was with Ilana. So they are not working for Widmore? And Miles mentions the 3.2 million he wants, like he told Ben.

Hurley to Miles: "Change your own diaper." LOL And Hurley with his Star Wars sequel...priceless!

Dan! He was in Ann Arbor.

Good call, Twinkle, on saying Chang sent Miles and his Mom away because he knew the Purge was coming.

I have a feeling that Ilana/Bram might be with the Others (not Ben), but Alpert's original inhabitants.

Unknown said...

The slightly offbeat title is a shout-out to the 1959 buddy comedy film Some Like It Hot, featuring Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis being forced to make the best of their circumstances while on the run.

Will Miles be the person on whose "good authority" Dr. Chang decides to record the "pinhole" video that was released at SDCC? The one with Daniel behind the camera?

Unknown said...

I never felt strongly anti-Ewok, and still don't, but Empire is by far the best of all 6.

Incidentally, I think Hurley's attempt to horn in on the Star Wars glory is really interesting. He certainly doesn't need the money in the "present," but if he'd had it back in 2004, he would have needed to play the lottery and thus get ensnared by the Numbers.

I agree that the "shadow of the statue" people are likely a third party, but I don't think the question is literal. Maybe I only hope that it's not literal.

Really interested in when Daniel flashed when everyone else went to 1977, and what he did to earn the apparent status he now holds in the DI.

Unknown said...

Oh, and before I head to bed...did it look to anyone else like there were black DI jumpsuits firing on beige DI jumpsuits? Sub occupants laying down the law? Early representatives of the "shadow of the statue" types? Can we start calling them the SS?

memphish said...

I'm still not sure who planted the fake plane. Miles says the guy was taking pictures of empty graves and a receipt for a plane to Widmore. Tom had these same documents that he showed Michael. I'm starting to wonder now if this 3rd party (SS! Scary) planted the plane.

And for the record, it's not the temple that lies in the shadow of the statue, literally. It's the donkey wheel that's there literally. Doesn't mean that's the answer, but it is the literal answer.

As for Hurley with Empire Kyle. I don't think he's thinking about the money. He wants to make it even better than it already is.

Tess315 said...

Kyle
I'm not sure I want to use SS. Unless you think Hitler's running around on the island. ;)

Tess315 said...

memphish
Do you think the shadow people as Black Swan calls them, are taking the crate to the Orchid?

Is there a weapon in there to destroy the wheel. Maybe to stop the time travel?

memphish said...

I don't have any good theories on what's in the crate. My only idea is that they are there to blow up Jughead and destroy it all.

It's weird to me that it's taken them so many days to get moving on whatever their mission is. And their sloppy handling of those who don't know what lies in the shadow of the statue.

Tess315 said...

memphish
So do you think the guy was taking evidence to Widmore on what Ben was doing and Tom killed him and stole the documents?

Then he showed them to Michael as proof of what Widmore was doing?

I was about to agree with you until I typed it out.

Why not just make up his own documents and blame Widmore? Why kill someone and steal documents to show Michael?

If all they wanted to do was stop Widmore from getting intel on Ben.

I'm not saying that it didn't happen. I'm not sure there would be a point.

Tess315 said...

Hoth is a Star Wars reference.
The title of the episode is a play on the move Some like it Hot as Kyle said.

Hoth

memphish said...

I guess if the Shadow people work for Ben they could have stolen the documents from Felix to deliver to Tom. The timing works out right. Assume Felix dead a day or two. Michael in New York having to get to the boat in Fiji.

Tess315 said...

I guess my problem is why steal document to prove a point.
If Ben is the guilty party in the fake 815 they'd have their own documents.

And even if Felix stole the documents from Ben. Why use them as evidence for Michael?

Ah, Unless that was the plan and Felix stole them from Tom when he was on the way to show Michael and Tom just retrieved them.

memphish said...

Nice circularity Sayid's Girl. :-)

I'm willing to let this be one of the mysteries I never really know. I like how ambiguous the planter of the Freckage has been.

Tess315 said...

Locke's following Richards orders and Christian's order and Christain says he speaks for Jacob.

To bring the 06 back. Widmore is helping him do this. Widmore considers himself an Other and so does Locke. Widmore says he needs Locke to win the war.

Which seems to point again to Ilana and Bram not working for Widmore since they say they are on the winning side and are trying to talk Miles out of working for Widmore.
This also seems to point to them not being Others.

Ben and Hawking are trying to get the 06 back, after Ben killed Locke.
I'm not sure Ben cared about getting the 06 back other than maybe Hawking tells him it's the only way he could get back.

So Ilana's team might work for Ben.
Or for themselves.
Ben could have killed
Caesar to get him out of Ilana's way. Since he was a challenge to her leadership. But I don't know why she couldn't have done that herself.

I'd love to know what this big war is all about. Does it cause the incident?

I'm just trying to work out who Ilana is. Any thoughts?

lost2010 said...

Ilana is obviously Ana Lucia and Sawyer's love child. . . ;)

She looks just like Ana and she conned Sayid like a pro. . .

(sorry, couldn't resist.)

Tess315 said...

Well who ever she is I hate her more than I ever did Ana Lucia. lol

lost2010 said...

See, I'm just wierd. I like Ewoks AND I liked Ana Lucia. . . LOL

Seriously, I think they're Dharma babies who got shipped away as children. . .I think if they were banished Others that Penny Widmore would have been their target instead of Miles.

memphish said...

She hit Frank. Ilana is on my bad list.

lost2010 said...

Is the guy Miles talks to in the flashback anybody we know or is he just one of those people that's on a lot of detective shows?

memphish said...

I'm going to state for the record I think Ilana and Bram represent the reconstituted Dharma Initiative.

They use riddle codephrases like we had in the Swan.

They know about Miles and his ability.

They are hostile to Widmore, leader of the Hostiles in DI Days, and it's DI who named the Others the Hostiles.

And it fits with the Comic Con video.

memphish said...

Are you talking about the Dad Lost2010? People have told me he's on Breaking Bad, but I don't watch that show. Too depressing for me.

lost2010 said...

Thanks Memphish - I don't watch that. . .

lost2010 said...

I finally got to watch with SOUND!!

How awesome are Sawyer and Juliet that she just keeps drinking her coffee while she goes off to find rope. . .

me said...

The dead filling guy sure did look like a skinny Hurley.

blueheron13 said...

I'm gonna go with the assumption that Widmore had Felix working on the "fake plane crash" mission, and Felix was bringing back proof of what he accomplished.

Someone on Ben's team probably killed him, took the photos/documents, and Tom later used them in his effort to recruit Michael for the freighter.

blueheron13 said...

I don't think Hurley ends up being the author of Empire Strike Back, because Hurly wants Luke and Vader to communicate and not duke it out with lightsabers. Plus, he was against Return of the Jedi. (Do these views reflect the views of Damon?)

FWIW, I agree with Memphish: Return of the Jedi is the best, A New Hope is second best, and the prequel trilogy = not worth a second watching.

I've never minded the Ewoks, though. I think they bring a nice comic-relief element. And at least they're not crappy CGI-generated creatures.

Tess315 said...

memphish
I went out for awhile and while I was driving I was thinking the same thing. That Ilana may be a reconstitiuted DI for the same reasons you stated. Also because I remember you saying something about the code phrase What did one snowman say to the other snowman, the other day.

You get credit for posting it first. I hope we're right.

lost2010
I really hated Ana Lucia at first. But after seeing her back story and the fact that she couldn't kill Ben made me kind of warm up to her at the end. Just like Shannon.

Everytime I start to warm up to someone they die. That doesn't make Juliet to safe. lol

The Uncanny Canadian said...

Since what happened happened, that means that Miles had always been on the island in both infant and present form. Chang probably realizes that and it is too dangerous to have him encounter himself directly (ala rabbits in orchid video), so he sends away his wife and infant Miles. It could be to prevent them from dying in the purge, but the timing is so immediate it correlates better with future Miles appearing on the island

Twinkle said...

Ooooh! Reconstituted DI! Interesting!

But how did DI find out about "what's in the shadow of the statue?"

I'm still confused about Miles and the 3.2 million?

Twinkle said...

I like that idea, Uncanny Canadian! Or something almost happens because Miles and baby Miles get too close. Maybe it kills adult Miles? And that's why Chang gets all panicky in the Orchid rabbit orientation video?

maven said...

I guess Miles/Baby Miles co-existing in 1977 rules out a theory that Ben and Sun didn't go back to 1977 because there were younger versions of themselves.

Twinkle said...

I guess Jacob just didn't want them to go back! Where would be the fun in reuniting Sun and Jin so quickly?

2costa said...

1. i really liked the misdirection the writers used with hurley and his journal. At first they made it seem like he was making this important journal about future events that might end up being the source of certain peoples future knowledge. The bounty Hunter reference seemed to be referring to sayid and ajira 316, then the big reveal is that hurley is writing the empire strikes back.

2. I think hurley's script wasn't the only overt star wars reference in the episode. Radzinsky and his black jump suit swan workers were very reminiscent of the empire building the death star(the swan). Beyond that the dharma jump suits and their different colors suddenly reminded me of the empire's non storm trooper soldiers like grand moff tarkin and their uniforms, and differnt colors of identical uniforms. Does that make the others the rebel alliance? Incidentally in an episode last year the dj at hurley's welcome home party had a rebel alliance tattoo.

3. I got seriously nervous when miles was looking at himself as a baby. Wouldn't dr chang's concern about the bunny's not touching each other in the first orchid video apply miles never touching himself as a baby.

4. Although they made it seem like Bram and Illana are working with Ben, explaining why Miles wanted 3.2 million from Ben to double what widmore was giving him. I still think widmore and Ben may be on the same side and the shadow of the statue group is a third group. I think the shadows might be a modern wing of dharma or hawkings team. It was strange how bram and illana basically let locke and ben do what they wanted and Ben killing ceasar only helped bram and illana take over the group more easily. Ceasar clutching to the shotgun seems to show he wasn't working with illana, otherwise he would have known there were way more guns.

5. Dan's return brings up some interesting questions. Did he leave on the sub and infiltrate dharma through ann arbor? Seems like it would have to go down like that because the other ann arbor scientists would known he was a fake otherwise. Did Dan play a part in designing the orchid and swan from ann arbor? Did he work on the swan and orchid to fix the timeline?

6. felix's information seemed to show Ben was definitely behind the fake 815 crash, but who knows.

7. if the shadows are working with Ben will they join the others? let's not forget ben had his secrets he was keeping form the others like the looking glass station not being flooded.

one more thing, is the difference between hurleys and miles powers related to how Ben seemed to see Jacob and talk to him like hurley or how locke only heard jacob like miles. Miles only gets information from up until the person dies. Hurley gets information from beyond when the people died, like when charlie told hurley to go back to the island, under miles theory charlie wouldn't know anything past dying in the looking glass. Miles seems to need the body, but miles can seem to commune with any corpse, where as hurley power seems more selective and limited to people he knew. Heres two big exceptions, hurley talked to dave even though he didn't seem to know him and miles seemed to have a conversation with the drug dealer ghost in his room even though the body wasn't there and despite miles acting like he doesn't have convos with ghosts.

2costa, I do NOT know how you can still think Ben and Charles are working together, or on the same side, or anything other than absolute enemies.

And hey, sayid'sgirl, I though I brought up the snowman interrogative first. ;P

The Snowman Interrogative. It's like a Ludlum novel.

I guess, other than Ilana punching Frank, we don't really have absolute proof of Team Shadow being bad guys. I'll shelve the SS label. For now. But I do like the idea of a new DI.

since most of the orchid is under ground, i bet most of it is built. the first swan video could have already been made in 1977. Chang is nervous about the bunny touching because it could cause a bad paradox and mess with the space time continuum not because of miles, but miles touching himself would be very bad.

well kyle, ben is locke's sidekick now and widmore wanted locke back on the island to win the war, that seems to show it's possible that although being banished, widmore still believes in jacob and the others ultimate goals, he just would rather be the leader. Widmore's exile reminded me of a leader who is exiled to another country waiting for his chance to take over again after a coup. His banishment was very orderly and peaceful. It like saying if someone was excommunicated from the catholic church they would become a satanist, which isn't true. A lot of people that are kicked out of churches still believe in the faith they were banished from. Ben and Widmore still mostly adhering to the "rules" seems to show they may be battling factions on the same side. Just as it's unclear if Locke and Ben are really on the same side or not.

Sorry Kyle
I thought it was memphish.
My memory isn't that great. lol

i just said it kyle, double entendre intended. My point being Chang will probably never know grown up miles is his son and is afraid of the bunny's touching just on space time concerns alone.

Very nice comments and observations Locos.

(sorry, I couldn't resist)

2costa: Has Hurley talked to or seen any ghost that didn't die on the island? I think that's the big difference. Dave wasn't a ghost but was a manifestation of the island.

Notice how Naomi said there were dead people "residing" on the island for Miles to talk to. Somehow dead isn't dead on island the same way it is off. Charlie was serving the island's purposes by appearing to Hurley and telling him he had to go back. Dying on the island links people to it, just like the sickness that Rousseau's people had, just like being born on the island seems to link people to it, or landing on it, or *touching* it in anyway.

Twinkle said...

Now you've got me musing... There are different strengths of connections. Dying or being born on it seem the strongest. Maybe also getting unstuck in time sticks you to the island more closely. Or being chosen by the island. It seems to me though that the island does give people an "infection" somehow. You touch it and it owns you, to a greater or lesser degree.

Back to Miles, I do think something bad is going to happen between Miles and baby Miles. It would explain Chang's craziness in the Orchid video, it would explain why baby Miles gets sent away abruptly, and it could also explain how Miles develops his ability in the first place. Ethan was born on the island and didn't have a "special power." Something happened to Miles very young.

Memphish said: " Killed by your own filling. That's Fringe worthy." Hahahha! Good one! X-D Also: "The idea of a 3rd party -- heavy sigh." Ditto :-p

I thought that I was the only Star Wars freak back then who didn't like the Ewoks. But it makes sense what ya'll say, since I was in the older appreciation crowd. Anyway, as Blueheron said: "And at least they're not crappy CGI-generated creatures." Meesa concur! :o)

Anyway, what an incredible episode. So great to have Miles backstory finally, and what an acting job, wow.

Oh, interesting Lost2010 about the new guys being DHARMA babies out to get revenge on their cheated childhoods. I like it.

Isn't the well literally in the shadow of the statue? Weren't the LBs standing next to the well when the skip happened and they looked up and saw the statue? And Charlotte mentioning the well makes me want to agree that it's the former island babies coming back, also because she did. I dunno, just what I'm thinking until further info. It might be the way to find out who lived their before, cuz they'd know, like Cahrlotte.

Maybe Felix is one of Toms' "friends" and that's how he got the info?

Mucho snickers, IB4UC. Great comments everyone.

Tess315 said...

Maybe if the shadow people are others, what lies in the shadow of the statue is the donkey wheel. The key to time travel. It may also be what keeps the island hidden.

The well wasn't always there.
And the rope was in the ground when they jumped to the time of the statue.

Even better Sayidsgirl! I just meant that I thought it was that area rather than the temple area.

FYI, in case I'm not the only one who hadn't seen this yet (I'm sure you all have):

http://www.popularmechanics.com/blogs/science_news/4312764.html?series=6

It's an article on Smokey and Egyptology in Pop-Mechanics.

So cool! I had not seen that article! Nice to have an Egyptologist's take on the statue! Off to investigate wikipedia to see what connections TPTB are sneaking us about the statue, Smokie and Taweret and Apep!

Oh i LAMO with Hurley and Miles bits. But it was no big shocker that Doc was Miles dad...actually the whole ep was a bit uneventful, but loved it anyway

I agree. And I feel pretty much the same way about the entire season. Except for the first 3 episodes. I really enjoyed them.

Uneventful, but loved it anyway.
There've been some intruguing bits but that's about it.

It's all been pretty disconnected for me this season.
I was telling my sister I can't believe the season's almost over and there hasn't been anything exciting or interesting happen yet.

This doesn't mean I hate Lost now. I don't. Or I'll quit watching I won't.
