Does anyone remember when ABC is supposed to give away that trip to Comic Con? I'm sure I won, but I need a little lead time to plan. :-)

Capcom said...

Yo're probably right Lostit. But with a show like LOST where they keep bringing back dead and missing characters, ya never know how they might have to plan ahead to keep the actors available.

I think that the point is, if a handful of LoCos ask that something not be mentioned, it's best to play it on the safe side just out of courtesy. Myself, I wouldn't care if I learned that so-and-so was going to be playing a certain character in the future, that's a vague enough spoiler for me, but other peeps here do mind so....

No way Memphish, I won! :o) But they didn't send my tix yet.

i disagree that anything on the official lost dvd is a spoiler, ill never agree. its beens stated hundreds of times on here about godspeed and annies importance to the overall gameplan. I like you comments twinkle and am not trying to fight with you, but we have to agree to disagree on this one, if something is released on the official lost dvd its fair game. Twinkle you havent been around for a while, but i assure you everyone on here knows goodspeed and annie are huge in the future gameplan, what that means i have no clue

i took down the CW thing cause as maven said if it turned out to be true it'd be a spoiler, which it won't, but lostpedia is respected and i pretty much follow their lead on spoilers. If what you say is true The officail lost podcast is always loaded with spoilers, and i just cant fathom that, if its ocfficailly released by tptb, i think its canon and fair game. I cant really see people being so uptight they would deny themselves of the commentary on the dvds to avoid getting spoiled. I understand the small faction of people that want to be totally unspoiled, but its really impossible, if i was like that i wouldn't talk about lost with anyone online. For istance when horace reappeared this year i looke dup horace on lostpedia and saw the dvd comment, with no spoiler. A general comment from damon about the broad brush strokes of the series on an official dvd is hardly a spoiler, he wouldnt say the stuff on the commentary if we were not meant to rap our minds around it. I think stuff like lostfan108 is awful that ruins the show, but cmon this is totally differn't

im prepared for whatever comes out of comicon being a spoiler on here, even though i dont agree. Part of the whole thing of comiccon is giveing us something to chew on in the hiatus, but whatever

Twinkle said...

Well good! If everyone already knows about Horace, the volcano, and Annie (all part of the same comments by Dartlon), then we can talk about it! I just try to abide by what I thought the admins set up as the policy in the beginning. It's been tricky to figure out what I could talk about and why I think Charlotte is connected to Annie.

I don't think Libby is Annie because she just looks too different from the actress who played young Annie. Annie's hair is brown with a reddish undertone and straight and she has slight freckles. Maybe it doesn't matter, but I'd prefer someone playing older Annie to have a greater physical resemblance.

Charlotte with red hair and freckles seems closer to being Annie's daughter than Libby does to being Annie. Although I wish no harm to Annie and like I hypothesized before, it wouldn't surprise me if Annie got pregnant in a terrible way possibly even causing her death in childbirth. Ben would never forgive DI for allowing that to happen to Annie. I also think that the problems with bringing a child to term developed after DI was on the island, possibly after the Purge. If Ben felt responsible for the problem it would also explain his efforts to fix it. Other than feeling Charlotte is related to Annie, none of my other speculations are related to a spoiler.

This was the most spoiler free I've stayed for any season, but I was surprised as I watched that I knew all the big surprises for each episode already. It got so I wanted to be spoiler free (which is huge for me) just so I could be surprised! The only things I didn't know was that Sun took over Paik and the last part of the season finale which I was really careful about. I didn't read episode summaries beforehand. I gleaned everything from snippets hear and there and quick overviews of spoilerfix.com. I didn't know how hard it was to stay spoiler free! (especially if you save the whole season for a marathon run at the end) I have much more sympathy for those of you who try to keep clean. As for my me, my curiosity often gets the best of me. :-)

Did anyone follow The Shadow Unit this year? shadowunit.org

Capcom said...

2costa, I think that you are unnecessarily concentrating on the DVD commentary as spoilers. We are more concerned here about spoilers in the daily news. The DVDs are not an issue, like we said. Also, most of what comes up at Comic Con will be for the ARG, which will be discussed either here or on a new ARG thread. But if something big is revealed (like Michael coming back was revealed last year) that can't be hidden, there's nothing that we can do about that.

maven said...

Capcom: Well said! The big spoiler sources are reporters after a "big scoop" and the spoiler sections of sites like Dark and Doc. Whatever happens at Comic Con in regards to the ARG most likely will not be considered spoilers if we go by what we got and learned in TLE1. I still say: If there's any doubt about anything, ask first, delete later! LOL

Twinkle: I'm leaning towards Charlotte being a DI baby, not necessarily Annie's (the time line doesn't match -- although with the way time is played with, one never knows). I would like Charlotte related to someone we already know in some way instead of some random DI mom.

Capcom said...

Tx Maven, FWIW, on the front page of Lostpedia there is a link to a good post that Congested put up discussing spoilers and whether it's right or wrong for Doc and DarkUFO to acquiesce (if that's the word for it) to the threats of guys like Lostfan108. Anyway, the article and comments are an interesting read and span the spectrum of opinions, as can be imagined on a touchy topic like spoilers! :-o

I also would like Charlotte to be related somehow to a DI that we know! But if her story is juicy enuff, I don't mind if she belongs to some new (albeit dead already) DI member. I would laff my @ss off if she turns out to be related to Hanso like Rachel was!

2costa said...

i agree like i said lostfan108's of the world are who tick me off, why spoil it for everyone. Part of why i took a stand on all that is i like to theorize, twinkle i agree charlotte is gonna be significant, maybe even Ben's daughter with annie. Ben took care to shoot charlotte within the protected part of her vest. With the revalation of concrete corporeal time travel in the finalee i bet there are lots of crazy theries to come up with.

Something that sticks out for me is that Ben went to the orchid last, 15 yrs earlier, yet the hotel ledger in tunesia said he was there two weeks earlier. He said it was a long time. Although I think is possible that someone else used the dean moriarty name there two weeks earlier, I think iit's more likely that ben went to tunesia 2005(two weeks before his latest visit) using the orchid in 1990. I think he must have left himself the intel about sayid's wife dying for himself, or even arrainged it. How else could he have the picture to show sayid from the traffic cam in l.a.. Either that or he has somekind of support staff off island, but it doesn't seem that way. I think Ben somehow knew he was gonna be banished and roughly where to, so he set up the oceanic six getting off the island, to have a support staff to get back to the island. I think hurley may end up being the key to finding the island, which makes it interesting that dave tryed to get hurley to kill himself on the island. I think dave is working for the same faction as libby, she also seemed to go against Ben's plan on the freighter. The only question i have is did the oceanic six leave the island in the first scenario when ben went to tunesia in 2005 from 1990, or did he make that happen to change things. For those of you who dont buy that this has played out before, by virtue od desmond going back and slightly changing things it shows that it played out differntly before. TPTB confirmed that things did change in the past in regards to desmond, example desmopnd never recognized daniel before he went to the freighter, and the only timline that can be veiwed as concrete is what we've witnessed on the island. Im of the faction that thinks that Dan's journal changes as things change. I think frank acted very curious all sqeason, but especially in the final eps. He showed he clearly understood the perils of communicating with the freighter, he never mentioned his pilot friend, and he is the only living soul from the frieghter team to make it off the island. I think frank knew that he had to deny keamy a ride in order to get keamy to kill the doc, so as to not change the timeline, thats also why i think he conveniently didnt get his handcuffs off, while he was sitting there, becuase he is working for Ben. He was on a strict schedule to be off the frieghter in the air with the O6 right as the island moved, but right before the kill switch blew up the freighter. Any changes like frank already being free from the cuffs, might have meant that jin got saved as well, and Ben wanted sun off island and mighty pissed off. Frank seemed pretty confident that there were two holes in the gas tank, had they only patched one they would have crashed before they would have reached pennys ship, something is not right. I think its telling that when frank first walked on the island he come upon that bull or cow. The cow holds a sacred place in the hindu religion, i think there is definetly symbolism there. Another strange thing about frank was how he would alternate between being scared of keamy and then not so much. After mike was outed frank was really nice to him and let him go.

I also think julliette is more privy to Bens plan than most, she seemed resigned to stayig on the island, even when resue seemd imminent. I think Ben sent her to the beach to make sure SUn tried to get off the island. Its the key to her work, she asked ben to let her do work off island and he said no, so getting sun off island with a child concieved on island is as close as she could get. JIn, had to stay because his magic seed may be the key to solving the fertility problem, considering it didnt work before nad the island rejuvinated him, its almost as if the island gave a blessing to that conception

Hey there, you crazy kids! Sorry for being completely AWOL the last couple of weeks - work has been a bear, and this week, I've been enjoying some much-needed vacation days.

I'm working on the book club right now - check out the current list here

This is what I'm thinking:

July - Of Mice and Men/Lord of the Flies (this will get us all caught up from last year)
August - The Tempest
September - On the Road
October - The Survivors of the Chancellor
November - The Invention of Morel

Let me know what you think - are there books that need to move up/down in the order, books that need to be added, etc? Right now, I'm leaving December open. That way, we have a little buffer if we fall behind again. If we're getting close to December, and we're still on track, we can add another book. I'm also assuming that there will be some kind of content and/or ARG in January for the new season - if not, we can add a book there as well.

I'll send David an e-mail, but I'd like to plan podcasts for the last week of each month again, as well.

I'm open to suggestions! Either leave me a message here, or send me an e-mail at piper.emily@gmail.com. Rock on, Book Clubbers!

maven said...

Hey, Melissa_lossa: Glad to see you're rested up and ready to go. The list seems good to me!

Twinkle said...

Wow, 2Costa! That's a lot.

Just picking up on the thread about Ben in Tunisia. I heard that the ledger said he'd been there before and looked for that part, but I didn't see it when I watched the episode. I looked it up in Lostpedia and didn't find it either. Where did that tidbit come from?

I also hadn't put together that Ben showed up in the Tunisia desert with the fresh wound and the parka that we saw him wearing in the season finale. That probably means that the island cast Ben directly off after he moved the island. He went straight from New Year-ish 2005 to October 24, 2005. It's possible that this is the same date that the island moved to. I wish they'd showed whether Daniel and the zodiac moved with the island!

I also find it interesting that Ben didn't act surprised at when and where he showed up. He sure thinks on his feet! I assumed that Ben was going back and forth from the island all that time and knew what was going on in the O6's lives, before he showed up in Tunisia on Oct 24th, 2005. Guess not. It also appears that from Oct 24th, 2005 through 2007 and the S4 finale, Ben hasn't been back to the island.

Is that how you all read it too?

I have your listmania book club in my favorites.
I was looking at it last week seeing which one's I could find on line and which one's I'd have to buy or borrow.
Your list looks pretty good to me.
I enjoy listening to the podcasts discussions of the books.
Can't wait to get started.

maven - it's amazing what a few days away from work can accomplish! My folks came to stay with us for a few days, and we had a great time roaming around town. Now hubby and I have a couple more days to ourselves before we have to go back to work. :)

twinkle - I believe Ben tells the woman in Tunisia that he is a "preferred guest" or something like that. I don't think that necessarily means that he's been there before, just that he's been in contact with them before. And I also assumed that from the time he turns to the wheel until the time he shows up at the funeral home, he has not been back to the island.

Mr. Mel just helped me pick my new fantasy team, "Lossa's Losties!" Considering I finished around 2500 this year, I need all the help I can get!

Melissa_Lossa said...

sayid's girl - I hope you'll join us for a podcast this round, as well! :)

Twinkle said...

Yes, I got that he'd been there before, but I can't figure out where the detail about the register showing he'd been there two weeks before is coming from.

I've already read the first month's books so I should "listen in" this time. Reading more fiction is a new goal of mine. Ironically I just started one called "The Shack" about a man who meets God in a shack. As a Lostie, that makes me chuckle!

Thanks for the Octagon heads-up Ange!

Hey Twinkle, you're good at the de-scrambling aren't you? Can that name be broken down to anything via numbers, binary, etc? :-)

Well, that name sounds very Nordic/Scandinavian/Danish...just like Alvar/Magnus Hanso!

Well, I would have to say that whoever wrote the e-mail is not American ie. the spelling of authorise sans a "z". Also I did do some anagrams of the name and came up with 279 combinations including lots that begin with HEAVEN, HAVEN, and GAS, but none make much sense.

Also, anyone else think all the disclaimers about the Dharma Initiative at the bottoms of the mails are weird?

2costa said...

twinkle i think someone enlarged the ledger and it showed dean moriarty two weeks earlier.

with what is starting to look like the rebirth of the dharma initiative i had a thought, it sort of relates to the corporeal time travel thing. What if the dharma initiative thats starting now/ in our present time is the same dharma on the island, and somehow the research goals and such and technology re gonna be replanted back in the sixties. What if the creator of the dharma initiative is just starting it in post 2004. I know this is a big leap, but what if Aaron is the mastermind behind much of the DI and its stations. Jack was reading AAron throught he looking glass, perhaps Why(aaron) named a station the looking glass. The designer was a musician,(beach boys code,TTLG) maybe aaron will be exposed to music as kate's tribute to charlie. Maybe Aaron has to grow up then be transported back 1965 on the island or whatever. If the claire that visited kate has any kind of simuliar agenda to ghost libby or dave, it would make sense that she doesnt want kate to bring aaron back to the island, because then he couldnt go back and mastermind the DI, because he would have no access to the negatively charged exotic matter.

To everyone that thinks claire is dead i disagree, i think julliettes other mission on the beach for Ben was to make sure Claire's head microchip was working properly. Maybe the chip is part of why claire is acting so weird, i might add claire was acting equally weird when she was mad at rousseau for saving her from ethan, and she was alive then.

To all the people that thought Ben turning the donkey wheel was too mystical/magical or too sci fi, i disagree. I think doc jensen was right on the money, the exotic matter is on ice like the battery on the frieghter and that keeps it dormant. The donkey welll creates enough heat from friction to unlock some of its potential... I think its a two pronged process on the insland, the electromagantism reacts with the negatively charged exotic matter to creat time travel or whatever. The swan was venting off excess electromagnatism, and that coupled witth the frozen donkey wheel kept the island in place. But both things need to happen for the island to move, So Ben shook lockes faith in the swan so that he would destroy it, that is the first part of making the electromagantism build up, so that when the wheel is turned then the magic happens. If youll recall, the other led locke to the swn to begin with, when ethan took claire and charlie they left two trails, one led to charlie, the other trail locke and boone followed. Eventually as the trail ran out they found the swan. Although i think there is some serendipity to locke drpping his flashlight on the swan, it also makes senses that the magnatism pulled the flashlight downwards... This is why i think Ben wanted locke to find the swan, replace desmond and ultimately stop pushing the button.
If there is any truth to the theory that walt may be abbadon, it would make sense that walt told locke not to go into the hatch, because had he never gotten into the swan, if my other theory is corrrect, then the island couldnt be moved and would be much easier for Walt to find one day...

FYSB said...

Ange, thanks for posting your Octagon email! My F5 key, however, does not thank you, as he has taken a beating since I read your post, hoping my very own would pop up.

the producers have mentioned how sometimes they take new computers and outfit them wiht the old looking casings and keyboards on the island, or libby mantioned the newish washing machine on the island. What if they are putting together the dharma initiative right now and making everything look like old seveties and eightys stuff, cause they are gonna move the island back to 1980 or whatever. Imagine what somebody could do with to days processors back in 1980. I"m just hoping there is some crazy twist to todays DI, being some how the precurser of the old DI iinstad of its ancestor. This season they have stressed the whole deja vu island on a loop thing(swayer in finae, horace repeatedly chopping down same tree, all the inverse symmetryy of plot line and other seanons finalles(season one stummble on bad zeks boat, season four stummble on good penny's boat) or flash foward tales of pardise lost contrasted against, flashbacks that lead to present day redemption) So what if the island just keep looping around in time in a cirlce as well, could add relavence to my theory that the recruiting right now for the dharma intitiative is the genesis of the entire project...

1) They scanned and posted all but one of the stories. The one they didn't scan accompanies the front cover apparently. Duh, the one that we want to see!

2) So they sum up the story in the comments as such: "Some scientist named Jake Bronowski is on a plane that passes through a storm and he weirds out during landing because the buildings don't look the same. His best friend Dr. Polder, with whom he's been playing an ancient Egyption game he discovered, meets him but his name is now Waxman. To make a long story short, they figure out that playing the game results in a "limitless outcome of similar timelines". It's a weird game like chess game and Jake makes the "right move" and suddenly he's transported back to his timeline where Waxman is Polder again. Honestly though, the story has nothing to do with LOST. It's has a strong spirtualism slant to it. It sounds more like Jumanji than anything else." And then they comment that it really doesn't have anyting to do with LOST. Huh???

3) So commenters beg them to scan if anyway just so we can see it. Someone also notes that, "limitless outcome of similar timelines" = LOST. And Waxman, etc. how could it not relate to LOST?

4) They reply this: "We are sorry but we've received correspondence from a solicitor suggesting it would not be in our interests to scan "The Travellers". We are sorry but it is not worth a lawsuit." As well as "We can add no more than we mentioned in post #8 above." Again, I say, huh?????????

Waxman?? Egyptian?? Airplane?? Strange city and going back in time?? Dr.s with changing names?? This has nothing to do with LOST?? Something makes me think that the guys who got this comic are perhaps not just "regular schmoes" who just happened to find the comic immediately after it aired, and are acting very evasive all of a sudden. Does anyone else besides me think that this all sounds kind of weird now??

Interesting Capcom. After chasing all the red herrings in all the books and clues on the show will all the answers be revealed in one obscure 4 page comic?

maven said...

Capcom: I saw that earlier today! It is definitely very suspicious. They had seemed to open to sharing their fabulous "find" with everyone. Now, I'm beginning to doubt this and maybe it is a set-up and part of the ARG story.

Capcom said...

Just in case the Jake Bronowski thing means something:

Jacob Bronowksi was the scientist in that great BBC-TV series "The Ascent of Man" He was a mathmetician specializing in geometry, and a biologist. After WW2 he was an official observer of the after-effects of the Hyroshima and Nagasaki bombings. Bronowski traveled around the world in order to trace the development of human society through its understanding of science.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacob_Bronowski

There also seems to be a Bronowski Institute of Behavioural Neuroscience.

http://www.bronowski.org/philosophy.html

Capcom said...

LOL Memphish! And maybe a fake comic book at that?! I never did find it listed anywhere in a web search where I did find other comics of the Tales series, but I didn't look too hard. Then low and behold, those dudes found it. :->

Right Maven, really open and sharing at first, and then suddenly the old zip-up-the-lip treatment. Hmmmmmm.

maven said...

According to wiki: A polder is a low-lying tract of land enclosed by embankments known as dikes, that forms an artificial hydrological entity. They are principally associated with the Netherlands.

No scientific name I can find so far...

Capcom said...

Interesting Maven. That's the first time I've ever seen the term "hydrological entity".

Tess315 said...

This article was posted June 11,2008 at television zombies. It reviews and compares the comic to Lost.
It doesn't say anything about the cover story or March has 32 days.
What I find funny is he says there's no rings in Lost. What about Charlie's ring? We never did find out what happened to it.

link

maven said...

In reading the archives of the Mystery Tales 40 site, the guys seemed very eager to share everything. "Our idea is to share the contents of the comic book with all the lost-addicts in the net, while adding some comments about the similarities with the TV show."

And why do lawyers all of sudden come out of the woodwork and threaten the last story (which does seem VERY Lost related)?

Capcom said...

And what about Sun's lost-then-found ring too, Sayidsgirl? You're right, there are rings in LOST.

Yeah, Maven, I should have trusted my initial instincts as to why the heck these guys would be so eager to share. Not that LOST fans don't share -- they are the sharingest bunch of TV fans I've ever seen -- but you know what I mean. It was like a sharing fest. :o) And yeah, the lawyers...and why just for that story, and not the others that they copied?!

Unless of course, these guys are legit but, TPTB did not expect anyone to find such an obscure comic, and they told them not to spill the beans about it since they are basing either the rest of the show, or the ARG, on it. I guess we'll find out sooner or later. :-D Totally suspicious one way or the other.

2costa said...

the march has 32 days thing in the comic is like groundhogs day, and that what i've been saying all along, this length of time we see has been playing out before over and over and ben has tried to tweak things in his favor. I beleive the first time around the oceanic 6 did not leave the island, or maybe they did and christain was trying to stop it this time, with jack getting sick among other things...

Capcom said...

Interesting 2costa, thanks!

I also find it odd that these savvy guys who found this comic so quickly, only just now found out about the DHARMA Octagon ad and website (including the source page reference to their site) which they just posted today????? Something's up here.

FYSB said...

Wow, that does change things a bit. It would be hard to believe that TPTB would give us a clue that would lead straight to that site and it be a mistake (ok, i'm willfully blocking out the memory of the interns).

A couple of questions...
1. This comic is pretty old right? When would it be public domain? If it's that old, who's around to go after them?
2. How could TPTB reach some guys in Spain and as a follow up, block only one story?

So that leads me to one of two options:
1. The comic is not real and was crafted for the game and these guys are in on it.
2. The comic is real and TPTB had other plans for it and were flummoxed to find these guys were ahead of them.

One last observation...that's a heckuva good looking site for a couple of fans sharing a comic book.

maven said...

I like your thoughts, 2costa, about the same day repeating.

That's a good point, Capcom. We've all known about Octagon for weeks. However, I will give them some leeway since today was when there was found to be a link between Octagon and the comic (with the title of the story).

maven said...

FWIW: At the bottom of the Mystery Tales page is this: blog hosted at Oceanic Webhosting Services.
This links to the old oceanic-air site.

The "terms of use" are in Spanish, though.

Capcom said...

That's what I say FYSB, about your conclusions 1 & 2. Either it's fake, or TPTB did not expect anyone to be able to find it so quickly. OR, to be able to pay $400.00 for it, as well! I was also thinking that today about their site, but then again, some regular peeps out there have some pretty nice sites.

But they do hang out in a bar called Dharmabar, and in light of how quickly they snagged the comic, how familiar they are with LOST, and the fact that they call themselves Lost addicts...how could they not know about Octagon? It's possible I guess. But still fishy to high heavens.

Capcom said...

Good work Maven! Dangitt, who here knows Spanish?

Tess315 said...

I thought it odd too that they didn't seem to know about the ARG.
But then I thought maybe with them being in Spain they didn't publicized in Spain. Who knows.

When I was searching around the web this morning I read somewhere that a copy of this comic was being auctioned off. So I think it may be a real comic book.

Capcom said...

Interesting about the auction Sayidsgirl. That leaves us with conclusion #2, OR, that the comic is real, but these guys know or are a part of TPTB, and just playing their part in the game. Delicious. :o)

Hey Memphish, do you know anything about public domain from your law work?

Tess315 said...

Well I probably sounded pretty stupid in that last post. I hadn't looked at all of the mysterytales40website so I didn't realize until now that they got their comic book from ebay.
I did read on another site somewhere (isn't that awful or something like that I think it was a comic book blog) that it was being auctioned.

FYSB said...

We are sorry but we've received correspondence from a solicitor suggesting it would not be in our interests to scan "The Travellers". We are sorry but it is not worth a lawsuit.

Why just the one story? Seems like they would block the whole book.

Intriguing. Or fishy. Your call, I'm not an ichthyologist.

Capcom said...

I hope that it's OK, I just mentioned you guys (FSYB, Sayidsgirl, Maven) in a post on my blog about this comic conudrum. I think that we're the only ones on the case for now! But that won't last long. :-B

Capcom said...

Exactly, FYSB, why just the one story?! Maybe these fans really did accidently stumble upon TPTB's secret storyline that they lifted from the musty old comic, heheh. That's cool too.

Totengraber said...

Wow! got my email. I'm going to Comic-Con!

Capcom said: Can that name be broken down to anything via numbers, binary, etc?

No, I'm not really good. I occassionally plug things into sites that translate. Glad to know MTP is on the ball though! Does he have a new ARG blog yet?

2Costa: Theorizing about the new DI. My guess is that it's Widmore and Sun.

So to recap what's going on - Some of us (not me yet!) have received an e-mail from Octagon Global. In the source code for the e-mail there is a message "March has 32 days" which when googled brings up a "fan" website with scans of the real comic book. "March has 32 days" is the title of the last story in Mystery Tales No. 40, the comic that Richard presented to little John Locke in the episode "Cabin Fever."

Up for debate is whether this is in game or was the result of these guys scanning in the comic book after it appeared in an episode of Lost. Did I get the summary correct?

A WhoIs lookup of the domain shows that it has been registered since 2005 by someone in presumably in Spain. All the other in game sites in other ARGs showed some connection to Disney, right?

I'd say that the site isn't in game, but we're being directed to the content of the comic book, again.

maven said...

Well, I finally got the email. It was in my spam dated 4:23AM, but just showed up. Now I feel part of the club! LOL

Zort70 said...

I finally woke up this morning after sleeping for 48 hours and saw I had the Octagon email which arrived at 16:38 UK time.

Has anyone been able to translate the blog site you are taken to if you click on Alperts picture ?

Joseph Finchum said...

I have to say I think it is a real comic because they have it listed in the Comic Book Price Guide. Which would never print a hoax, IMHO.

Twinkle said...

I got mine!

Twinkle said...

So did you read "March has 32 days" scans? If we're being referenced to that comic book, it's probably only that particular story that matters. Now I know why you were talking about groundhogs day.

2costa said...

ya dedjezter is right it's an actual comic book.

a while back i theorized that mittlewerk's virus might target people that are predisposed to getting unstuck in time like say desmond or daniel, the reason, any changes the DI or hanso make to the core value of the valanzetti equation, will be in jeaporady as long as these unstuck people going around mucking up their preffered timeline, ala johnny form deadzone. For simuliar reasons I think ben destroyed the user freindly more controllable part of the orchid station(the vault) so nobody could easily tinker with the timeline in his abscence from the island...

Capcom said...

Cool Ded, thanks for the ref! That would be the place to go to verify. :-)

Dang Zort, I hope that you're better now! Welcome back.

Yep that's correct Twinkle. Don't forget that they say that can't scan the cover story, due to "legalities".

Capcom said...

P.S. Someone really needs to start an ARG blog and keep track of all these little issues in case they are pertinent! Is one out there yet? DarkUFO might throw up a tab for it in the mean time as usual.

Capcom said...

Mystery Tales Update: Now the blog guys have posted that whomever posted the info last night is pulling our leg, and for us to only believe any posts by "Lost" with the Alpert avi. But they still haven't answered about the cover story.

As ARGs go, foilers and fake info change so rapidly in between the real game info, that we have too much time to make conjectures about the iffy stuff. :-D Nevertheless, Octagon does reference the "March" story, so it is drawing our attention to the comic for an as-yet unknown reason.

Ange said...

Ugh I feel like I am having Find 815/DarkUFO flashbacks now lol.

Anyone raise Dennis yet on the blog status? Just throwing it out there, that I would help admin. a new blog...but there's a but. OceanicConspiracies was A LOT of work and a three person admin. team was frankly not enough. Plus I am going to England for ten days in August which is most likely right in the thick of the game.

Actually making a new blog for the new game is making me feel a little anxious even though we need one.

maven said...

Morning. I did touch base with Dennis via email. He was traveling at the time. He did indicate that he would start a blog for Octagon (and, Ange, I offered you up as an Admin). But I haven't heard from him since. Maybe we didn't expect these latest developments (since we were all waiting for the end of July).

Scoutpost said...

Hey everyone! It's good to be back. I've had an extra dose of chaos the past few weeks. Haven't read any of the comments, but I guess I have a few months to catch up on that!

I've received my emails from Octagon, but didn't do any thing about it yet. I'll have to go look at it. I'm so excited about the ARG.

So is anyone going to Comic Con? If someone were going I might try and convince my husband that I need to go. It would actually be fun to go sometime before LOST wraps up completely. I've noticed there aren't any more tickets for Saturday though. That could be a problem. Anyway...glad to be back!

Twinkle- good to see you around again. I sent you an email at the address on your blog, but didn't know if you used that address anymore. I wanted to ask you a question. Let me know if you have another email address- drop me a line at masage@netzero.net

maven said...

So now the Mystery Tales guys are denying there's another story called "The Travelers".

There are so many strange coincidences in these developments. It just "so happens" that these guys in Spain scan in the "March has 32 Days" story just a few days before the email code comes out. Everything happens for a reason!

(Hi, Scoutpost!)

Capcom said...

That's how it's looking to me too Maven, but then there's that last comment that someone makes saying that the blog did mention that the story was in there previously. I haven't looked to confirm that on the site yet. Weird.

2costa said...

when mystery tales appeared there was a wiki link on darkufo that mentioned the three stories inside.

yesterday i mentioned the new computers on the island with old housings, Int he the special features for season 3 theres a par twith mikhail, where they show this sweet modern computer screen, but then they put the old school keyboard and casinf, i know they need to newer screen to show the part where locke beats the chess and sees marvin candle, but people have said all along that a lot of the technology on the island seems to be more advanced than it looks. What purpose do BEn/others have in making new equipment look old. Is it just an extension of their ratty closes and fake beards, to make anyone that lands on the island think the DI has been out of commission for a long time? I think it might be something more. If the island can move in time, it might make sense that they outfit new stuff in the present to look old when the island goes back in time, I think this also relates to the food thing. The food drops show that there is still some kind of Hanso presences on the island, so why the ruse with old equipment. Why was the food on the freighter rotten(i assume), but crackers that hugo got from the mirroe box still good after 15 yrs. I guess the sabateur that did the radio room and engine could have sabotauged the food, but i think there is more there. Food has become a prevalent them, charlie and claires peanut butter party, or dave convincing hugo to keep eating himself to death. Many people have mentioned how towards the end of the season time seemed to be very strange on the freighter, besides the doc still being alive even though he had washed ashore on the island, I'm referring more to how in one scene it would be dusk, then dawn, then miday, then night on the freighter, maybe that is related to the "kitchen problem" on the frieghter. In order to look at it objectively you need to decide which point is truly the present, is the island the present when doc floats ashore, while back on the freighter is the past or is the island the future when doc floats ashore and the freighter is the present or past while he is still alive. Objectively speaking at that very moment when keamy killed the doc, he was on the freighter and the island at the same time as was frank at certain times in his helicopter runs, perhaps the 305 coordinates give just enough leeway in time and space that nobody runs into themselves like a 15 bunny. If the origianl orchid video means anything, it shows that you can run into yourself withouth currupting the space time continuium, just not actually touch yourself(I'm sure that a theory halliwax is not comfortable putting to the test, since it could end the universe as we know it). Thats why halliwax dropped the f-bomb cause he was scared they might inadvertantly touch...

Tess315 said...

In the link I posted last night of the fan run comic book site. The list of stories for that issue of the comic book has The Travelers and March has 32 days.
I believe ded this is a real comic book.

Twinkle said...

Or maybe this whole thing, Desmond's time unstuck-ness, the time difference between the freighter and island, the season finale, the comic book, is to ask the questions:

What is the "present" and is it really as significant as we like to think it is?

Scientists aren't really sure that what we think of as "time" really exists at all. Some scientific theory posits that the flow of time is constructed by our consciousnesses.
"In the 1990s, for instance, physicist Julian Barbour proposed that time must not exist in a quantum theory of the universe....Perhaps, as Rovelli and others suggest, time is all a matter of perspective - not a feature of reality but a result of your missing information about reality."

Twinkle said...

All that to say that there may be nothing more to get out of this comic book stuff than what will make us go, "Hmmm...."

Capcom said...

Right....we've got to stay on our toes and recognize the correct weirdness, but not go off half-cocked for the wrong weirdness.:-B

Hopefully this issue with the comic will level out soon.

Capcom said...

I found something interesting link = here , and I'm not sure what this blog is about other than general public ethics and legal issues, but it does seem to talk about comics subjects frequently. Anyway, the article on the Mystery Tales blog and possible legalities is noteworthy.

Excerpt: "As for copyright--assuming it hasn't lapsed--pursuant to the Berne Convention Marvel could seek to enforce its copyright in Spain, although as a practical matter the question arises as to whether Marvel would want to try and how much the foreign fans would push back. They could make a fair use argument, but Marvel could object that they're going beyond the bounds of fair use by copying the entire work."

Don't know if this is correct or not.

Also, I think I promised Kyle that The Tempest would be the first new book that we'd do, so that will probably stay in August.

maven said...

Well, all that "Travelers" stuff at Mystery Tales was sort of a letdown! The only interesting quote was people should "free themselves from the ties of time and dimension and then there will be whole new worlds to conquer." We already know that Albert and Abaddon travel through time and dimension!

Twinkle said...

I think my daughter is free from the "ties of time and dimension." She perpetually refers to anything in the past as "yesterday" and anything she wants in the future as "tomorrow." She says, "When I'm I baby I..." and acts like those days will come again. She says, "When I'm a grown-up..." the same way, like she can flip back and forth between her life stages whenever she wants. LOL! Maybe three year olds run on Lost time?

Hey, seriously, how come there's only 18 of us on Dark's fantasy league? It takes like 2 minutes to throw some educated guesses together. Get crackin', lurkers!

Dennis said...

I posted the updated Bookclub list on the front page, and signed up for the DarkUFO fantasy league. I think I'm all caught up now :)

I also started a new blog for the next LOST ARG (since we won't cover it here) - LostArgs.blogspot.com.

If anyone wants to help out, send me an email!

Yea for Dennis!

Kyle - I signed up a while ago, I've just looked and there are now 20 of us signed up.

Dennis - I've just looked at the new blog, no posts yet ?

I'd be happy to help, but I don't think I can spare much quality time at the moment.

I'm working on it :) I still have a little time to backfill before Comic-con, then we can get started.

Thanks for the awards breakdown, Cattygirl. Yeah, over at DarkUFO the arguments are aplenty, with the MF/Jack-lovers branding those who didn't quite agree with the Best Actor award, with the usual "Jack-hater" moniker. Man, life's too short. :-p

Thanks for the new ARG blog Dennnis. Yes, all that's happened so far is the email going out and the curious source note about the comic story, sothere's not much to post anyway. Some peeps and I have been discussing that on my blog last week, but nothing notworthy has happened on the comic blog since then. But they still haven't posted all the comments counted for the "March" story, which is where the arguments about the "Travelers" story started, and that's kind of curious.

I just signed up for the Fantasy League...how can I see who else from LoCo is there?

maven said...

That's a good question, fsyb. I thought each site was going to have it's own little mini-Fantasy League among their site users. But that would probably require some sort of set up for a running list each week.

...oh, Dennis...we need you again! LOL

I had to look up what the Saturn awards were. Who knew there was an "Academy of Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy" or something like that?

maven lance riddick(abbadon) has looked the same for at least ten years if not more, when i first saw him on OZ or the wire, he looked identical to today. from the time locke was in a wheelchair to hugo's encore at santa rosa is about 8 years by my count. The only thing that makes me think abbadon is a time jumper is that he had already had his walkabout(which implied he had been to the island) before locke got there and abbadon wasn't there when he did arrive and said they would meet again. Who knows abbadon might turn out to be walt, but they haven't given any concrete proof on the show. Richard looks unchanged in age over a span of 40+ yrs. It's interesting that richard looked like present day richard at locke's birth, but had his shaggy hair when he first met ben, which is chronolgically in between locke's birth and the present. seems to point to locke's birth richard being present day richard...

Capcom said...

Well of course there's an "Academy of Science Fiction, Horror and Fantasy"! :-D Good thing it's not still called the Count Dracula Society tho.

No other awards committees are going to give this outre-genre the respect that it so often deserves, IMNSHO.

And the nominees were:

MATT DALLAS
Kyle XY (ABC Family)

MATTHEW FOX
Lost (ABC)

MICHAEL C. HALL
Dexter (Showtime)

KEVIN MCKIDD
Journeyman (NBC)

EDWARD JAMES OLMOS
Battlestar Galactica (Sci Fi Channel)

LEE PACE
Pushing Daisies (ABC)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'd have had trouble voting for Matthew Fox over Edward James Olmos, but I can see him beating out the rest of those guys.

Hey, LostCos! I stumbled upon this today while listening to a lecture in a series overviewing the history of philosophy. A philosopher names Anshelm developed an argument to prove the existence of God. To counter the logic of his argument, a philosopher named Gaunilo hypothesized a "Lost Island"! The Lost Island is the greatest, most perfect island any mind can conceive of. These philosopher's play with the idea that reality can be created just by conceiving it.

When are we going to have a character on Lost named after Gaunilo of Marmoutiers?!

Twinkle, that LOST Island thing sounds interesting. I've saved it to read. 4 hours at the swim meet has left my brain mushy.

I just watched last night's "Daily show" and Coldplay was on it playing two songs from their new CD - "Lost!" and "42". Add those songs to the title song "Viva la vida" which sounds like it was written for Ben (with lyrics like "that was when I ruled the world") and the final song on the CD "Death and all his friends"... it seems like the band are LOST fans!

Beverly said...

More on coldPlay - Some lyrics from the song "42":

"Those who are
dead are not dead/They're just living in my head"

Zort70 said...

Have a look at this video on Facebook for the Coldplay song.

It is right on the money

Zort70 said...

I found this post on Songmeanings.net about 42, sound familiar anyone ?

--------
This song instantly made me think of the LOST. Not the song that precedes it, but the television series.

42 is one of the numbers. If you know the show, you know what numbers I mean.

What really struck me was 'You think you might be a ghost/You didn't get to heaven but you made it close'.

There's been a long-standing theory about LOST that the island is actually purgatory and that everyone who crashed in the plane is really dead. Or in between worlds, in other words... they didn't get to heaven, but they made it close.

I'm probably wrong, but that's where my mind immediately went.

By the way we are going to see Coldplay in October here in the UK.

I'll be sure to ask them about it !

Zort70 said...

Coldplay aren't strangers to putting hidden messages on their albums, the last one (X&Y) had a Baudot Code on the front in the form of coloured blocks (the colour has no meaning)

The code was supposed to be the title of the album, but apparently the Coldplay album cover interns made a mistake and the code actually reads X9Y.

Scoutpost said...

zort that is interesting about Coldplay- someone ought to ask them if they're closet LOST fans....maybe they'll end up on Kimmel. :)

Twinkle- I wouldn't be surprised one bit if a character named Gaunilo ends up on the show next season- weirder things have happened! If that happens, you should qualify for a major bonus of LFL points! ;)

Speaking of which- I hear ya Takes a Village! Last year I didn't give much thought to my team. This year I carefully considered who I put down. We'll see if it does me any good!

I was glad to hear about the Emmy nomination. Hopefully LOST will get some more noms when they're all revealed.

maven said...

Scoutpost: That Emmy list is not for a nomination. It's just the "short list" of potential finalists. They usually pick 5 for the nomination. We still have a long way to go!

memphish said...

Zort, you enticed me to buy the new Coldplay album. I'd been teetering, but anything LOST connected and my wallet opens. ;-)

Chris Martin did a hilarious cameo on Ricky Gervais' show Extras in Season 2. Maybe he does like LOST too.

I emailed DarkUFo about this, and this is what they said:

When the submission queue is closed (in about 1 month) we will publish all the stats and tables and you will be able to see the team names signed up under The Lost Community. (We don't display email addresses due to privacy).

Then after each week we will work out the scores and update our database and publish and the various, stats and charts on the site. You can them republish the tables that interest you on your site or simply link back to our results page.

I'll probably set up a side-widget on the front page to display our LoCo results.

I've been thinking about the fight between Kate and Jack about the favor she did for Sawyer and I think Kate was being unreasonable about not telling Jack what she was up to. I mean, if you think about it, she was engaged to Jack. Her loyalty should be to him, yet she chose to keep a secret from him. She went somewhere on Sawyer's behalf and didn't tell Jack anything about it. She didn't even tell him - "Hey, just before Sawyer jumped off the helicopter and saved our butts, I promised him I'd do something for him. It's his secret so I can't tell you what it is. Are you OK with that?" BEFORE she did it. I bet Jack would have had a very different reaction.

That said, Jack's reaction was way out line - getting drunk and high and saying that Sawyer chose to stay, etc. - given what actually happened on that helicopter.

memphish said...

LostIt, I can see your point about Kate, but remember Jack has already dumped Kate once because he couldn't handle being around Aaron once he knew about him and Claire. I can see Kate thinking anything that reminds Jack of what we left behind might send him packing again, and I can't take that risk now that Aaron is invested. After all, it was Jack coming home early that busted her (and her lame phone lie). Arguably it was Christian's "ghost?" that caused Jack to come home early. So perhaps it's all the plot of the Island. :D

lost2010 said...

The oddest part is that in the scene in the helicopter, I didn't actually see Kate agree to do anything. Didn't he do all the whispering?

Capcom said...

I agree with you about that Lostit. The argument between them seemed rather forced to me, and more like a vehicle in the story to cause a needed rift. And you're right, it was wierd the way Jack said that Sawyer "chose" to stay, because it's not like Sawyer was standing on the beach waving and shouting "Bon Voyage", he jumped to save the helo. And in point of fact, Sawyer saved them too with his jump, not Jack, so is Jack actually P.O.'d about that too?

But Kate didn't have much time to say much more than, "What're ya doing?" before he jumped. He may have just asked to her to do "this" if he ever meant anything to her, and so no reply was really needed. If he meant something, she'll do it. Although I'm more surprised at what a quick whisper it was, it doesn't seem like he had much time to elebarate on his request before he jumped.

Interesting idea about CS sending Jack home Memphish.

maven said...

When Jack throws the words "Sawyer choose to stay" kinda rings true. Sawyer did make a choice in the helicopter to jump. Nobody else made that choice. Albeit, it was a heroic choice and one that didn't have to be made by him. But Jack is just throwing that decision in Kate's face in a vindictive manner.

The thing that bothered me about the helicopter "goodbye" was that nobody saw that smooch and Sawyer whispering in her ear? Wasn't it sort of very tight quarters? Would Jack have looked away? I don't think so. So why is he so surprised and mean when Kate comes clean?

Capcom said...

True Maven, but maybe I'm too used to Jack's whiney side and expect the worst from him. It seems like he's also trying to twist it around so that it only sounds as if he saved everyone, and that Sawyer's act had nothing to do with it, as a way to sway Kate's effections/allegience also. But like I said, that's just me expecting Jack to want to take all the credit for being the Big Savior-man for his own ego. And I think that Jack does look right at them when they are kissing, with his mouth hanging open, heehee. :-D

BTW, don't forget to check in on the FringeTV blog. Things are slow as far as the official site, but happening nonetheless. They are speculating about a new corp that is in the mix, like Hanso, et.al.

lost2010 said...

Well, I've lost two posts in a row, but Capcom said what I was thinking anyway so I guess I won't type it out a third time.

The only thing I'd add is that I'm now wondering if the reason Kate seems to be so tardy in her promise fulfillment could be that Jeremy Bentham told her something that reminded her of her promise.

memphish said...

I figure Kate couldn't do anything about Sawyer's request until after she cleared up her legal problems. Something Nice Back Home follows pretty quickly on the heels of Eggtown. And of course, Cassidy/Clementine would have to travel from New Mexico to California to meet Kate since Kate can't leave California.

As for the "chose" to stay thing. In what universe could a sober Jack say that Sawyer chose to stay? None of them (except Hurley) knew that John was going to attempt to move the Island much less succeed at it. When Sawyer jumped he should have had every expectation that he would eventually get to the freighter. His whisper to Kate was argues slightly against that, but given everything else that's gone wrong on the Island, it was just insurance. Jack's wording was of course meant to drive us all to speculation until the finale, but post-finale it makes Jack seem even more petty than usual.

So do we think they'll ever be able to rehabilitate Jack at this point? I know I for one have done a 180 on the character. It's hard to see how I'm going to reverse or push through that, but that's of course the fun.
