I'm in TLC heaven, I've got three podcasts to listen to today !

Just listening to the first one now, and I fully expect the Orchid to be split into two parts, the above ground run down, place we have seen the outside of, and a below ground experimental Dharma part where all the island moving equipment is.

I wrote a while ago that I didn't want to see a big underground lair like a James Bond style villan would have, but I'm slightly backtgracking on that now, and hope it is quite an impressive underground station. (That Locke doesn't blow up)

Zort70 said...

The other thing that struck me, and I hope I'm not repeating anyone else, but as there are three parts to the final episode :-

There's no place like home
There's no place like home
There's no place like home

Doesn't Dorothy say that three times while clicking her heels together ?

As I'm already pointing out the obvious I just want to say how season has been a compete journey, from the first flash forward to presumably the point where the O6 leave the island.

So the question is will we have another complete story line next year, or do we think that the last two years will be the story arc ? While tidying up all those loose ends of course :-)

lost2010 said...

I sort of think next year's story arc might be the Oceanic 6 finding their way back to the island juxtaposed against what happened to those left behind while they were gone. At least I hope there's some island action there next season, I'm not really interested in watching the Oceanic 6 live out their sad little lives in the real world too much.

lost2010 said...

Well, okay - Maybe Sun and Sayid. But watching Jack, Kate, and Hurley be miserable is getting old already.

Amused2bHere said...

I finally got to listen to the whole Valis podcast...well done, MelissaLossa, Maven, Zort and of course David A. That sounded like a lot of fun.

Looking forward to lots of Lost this week, but trying to stay spoiler free!

Zort70 said...

You are right Lost2010 if we spend a year looking at Jack being a drunk and Hurley thinking he is crazy then it is going to be dull.

If it is the O6 getting back to the island then hopefully, the end of this season or the start of next will be the O6 coming together and deciding that is what they are going to do, thereby getting their mojo back.

Zort70 said...

The Valis podcast was a lot of fun, and I don't want to jinx things, but everytime I join a podcast, David's connection seems to go down !

I'm starting to get worried that I've got a special power :-)

Happy Tuesday before the finale LoCos! USA Today has a Josh Holloway story today. Sorry I can't link, but I'm posting from the phone this week. There's a few paragraphs in the first part of the article about the finale. I skipped those, then there's stuff about the actor.

I agree that I don't need an entire season of drunk Jack and crazy Hurley. We also as fans tend to be happier when we see all vs. some of our 815ers. I hope that S3 mistake will not be repeated in S5.

Working on a LOST soundtrack to keep my blood up during this week, and any time I need a fix during the hiiiiiiiaaaaaaaatusssssssss (it's a long hiatus). Not all the obvious songs, but some of 'em.

Unknown said...

All right! Got it done, edited it down, put 'em all in the right order.

1. "St. Elsewhere" - Gnarls Barkley
2. "Tremor Christ" - Pearl Jam
3. "wash Away (reprise)" - Joe Purdy
4. "Walkin' After Midnight" - Patsy Cline
5. "Beyond the Sea" - Bobby Darin
6. "Invisible Sun" - The Police
7. "Missed the Boat" - Modest Mouse
8. "Redemption Song" - Bob Marley
9. "Familiar Realm" - CKY
10. "Make Your Own Kind of Music" - Cass Elliot
11. "Shambala" - Three Dog Night
12. "Man in the Box" - Alice in Chains
13. "Come Join Us" - Bad Religion
14. "They" - Jem
15. "Company Sin" - John Butler Trio
16. "Them and Us" - Bad Religion
17. "Good Vibrations" - The Beach Boys
18. "3 Libras" - A Perfect Circle
19. "Land of Confusion" - Disturbed
20. "The Boogie Monster" - Gnarls Barkley
21. "Everyday" - Buddy Holly
22. "Downfall" - Trust Company
23. "Missing" - Beck

Most of the songs are character-centric. Anyone wanna take a stab at matching song with character?

lost2010 said...

Speaking of Drunk Jack. . .if he came back from the island and reunited with his mom at the airstrip and they seem to have patched things up. And then he proceeded to move in with Kate (at least that's implied by Kate's making excuses for him at Hurley's party) and then they break up before the trial but get back together after the trial and live together some more. And the people at the hospital know he's engaged.

Why oh why is Sarah still on his emergency contact list at the hospital? I mean, does she really have the same phone number four or five years and a new husband later?

lost2010 said...

1. Jack
4. Kate
5. Shannon or Danielle
10. Desmond
12. Locke
17. Charlie

That's all I can even guess at. . . I don't think I know most of those songs. . .

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey, guys - JUST caught up on all of the comments. :) Thought I was in a timeloop of my own with that VALIS posting!

It was a fun podcast - at zort, any dark podcast powers you may be harboring are offset by your wonderful and wacky theories. :)

Kyle - I'm digging the soundtrack! Might have to burn a copy of that myself.

And I just had to share this with the only people who might appreciate it: I work at a PBS/NPR station, and one of my jobs is writing the content for our monthly program guide. We have a lot of music shows on in June, so I wrote an article about them and titled it "Make Your Own Kind of Music."

I know, I'm a dork, but it made me happy to sneak some Lost love in there!

Happy Tuesday of LOST FINALE Week!

Yep...anymore of drugged/drunk Jack and Crazy Hurley and snotty Kate, and I think I'll puck! LOL I'm just hoping that TPTB have a lot of great things still left up their sleeves and we'll continue to be wowed!

Zort70: Good call on Dorothy clicking her heels 3 times and saying "There's No Place Like Home!" And, no, you don't jinx the podcast!

Lost2010: Good point about Sarah being on Jack's emergency call list and not Kate! Maybe just a bureaucracy boo-boo in a big hospital or something Jack forgot to change.

Amused2bhere: Thanks.
I had no idea what I was going to say about that book, but once you get going and listen to what others thinks, things just start flowing! More of you should try and join in next time! It is fun!

First glance try on your list Kyle:
1. Jack
2, Eko
4. Kate
8. Michael
10. Desmond
12, Locke
13. Richard
16. Ben
17. Charlie
20. Smoke Monster!

Will listen to latest podcast later today.

Capcom said...

Vry clever Zort, about the 3-repeat title!

I agree Lost2010, I'm not looking forward to too much of the off-island angst myself. Let them get their whining done, and then get the job done.

It will be neat if instead of FBs and FFs (for the most part, I DO want to see some more DI and Rousseau FBs!) TPTB instead just show parallel timelines of on and off-island scenarios.

I also agree a out Sarah's number, was he too chicken to list Kate, or Mommy? Or are we just supposed to get the idea that Jack has so not restructured his life since getting back, that he still has her listed as a contact? Hmmm.

Zort70 said...

Speaking of hospital systems, I am working on testing the NHS national system in the UK and with the amount of patient data that is out of date in that system I'm not surprised about Jack's Next of Kin contact not being updated.

2costa said...

the producers said there are three levels of the orchid a while ago.

sarah was jacks contact, but that was after he and kate barley get along anymore, maybe after the breakup, but i agree his mom would have made more sense

2costa said...

I think the top level is the actual greenhouse, this is just speculation, but i bet one level is for a person to jump in time, like richard or ben, and the third level is where one might go to move the island?

Zort70 said...

The Orchid might be the next thing we need to draw a map off, like people have been doing on the island.

If it is anything like Bens house then there could be any number of levels and secret passages !

lost2010 said...

The thing is - Jack actually works at the hospital. Surely they wouldn't have just picked up a random piece of paper to contact someone. He was conscious.

But I have a feeling this is like Kate's trial. Not so much a plot point as a plot device to make us think it was a flashback at the time. . ..

Tess315 said...

zort70
I never thought of Dorothy clicking her heels 3 times. Good catch.
2costa
I like your ideas on what the 3 levels of the orchid could be.
It does seem odd that Sarah would be Jack's contact. I agree that it's probably after he and Kate break up, but why Sarah? Did he never change it to Kate?

memphish said...

It doesn't surprise me that Jack's emergency contact had not been updated, but I also agree that mostly that was there to trick us into thinking flashback.

Capcom said...

Yep, just like the panda thing with Jin. :-p

Twinkle said...

Hey, folks! It's been *months* since I posted! Hubby and I have watched all of season 4 up through the Ben-centric one since Saturday night!! So many cool answers!

I don't think we'll finish the episodes to catch up with you for the season finale, but at least I'm not that far behind now. I just had to check in. :-)

Capcom said...

Hey Twinkle, I've been thinking about how/where you've been lately! Nice to here from you. :-)

Twinkle said...

Thanks, Capcom!

I knew most of the early big surprises from the beginning of the season but I stopped paying attention after that. I'm excited to see the next few episodes that I don't know hardly anything about.

Besides the obvious early stuff like Kate with Claire's baby and Hurley and Charlie, there have been lots of great bits. The smoke monster beating up those freighter army guys was so cool! Ben asking if the rabbit he was eating had a number on it was a great shout out to the Orchid orientation film. They have to totally be using that station to move around. I'm glad I'd seen enough to be prepared for Rousseau's, Karl's, and Alex's deaths. That would have been really hard otherwise. My story sense though had been saying since the last few episodes of last season that they were getting an excessive number of characters and needed to get rid of a few. I'm glad I didn't have to pick who.

My biggest question is how did under-privileged, island sequestered young Ben become fluent in other languages, incredibly rich, and worldly-wise? Unless he's lived more than a lifetime, it just doesn't seem plausible.

Thanks for putting up with my rehashing old stuff. Lost has got to be the most convoluted, amazing show ever! It's much easier on my nerves watching it all at once. I still lose sleep but I lose less sleep. :-)

maven said...

Hey, Twinkle! You've got a great way of watching the show (all in a row), but I don't think I could have waited! LOL

I agree with you that Ben either made some great investments in the past or he's getting backing from someone. Also, he must have gotten a great education from Olivia Goodspeed in being multi-lingual and wise to the ways of the world! LOL

Capcom said...

I agree about Ben's DI education. In a closed society like that, it would be easy to have nothing else to do besides learn, learn, learn. Especially if Li'l Ben had some future plan/vendetta glowing in his eyes.

I've been watching Andromeda Strain, Zort, it's pretty good. In tonight's second ep, one scientist asks Jin if he knows anything about wormholes, and I imagined him saying, "Well, in my other TV show....." :o)

Capcom said...

BTW Zort, or anyone watching it, there's fake blog that goes along with the Strain series:

http://www.whathappenedinpiedmont.com/

also, an ARG which I didn't check out. Not enough brains cells left from LOST. :-B

Amused2bHere said...

Just finished watching The Andromeda Strain. It was good, a nice update to the old movie.

Maven, I just couldn't get through Valis, so I didn't think I had anything to add to the podcast. PKDick's books are hard enough to read, but Valis was the most difficult one I'd found so far (even Deus Irae, which was excriciating, was easier to slog through than Valis). I congratulate all who made it through!

Amused2bHere said...

I mean excruciating.

maven said...

Good podcast, David and Married Goog! Except for your wacky theories, you guys talk about things that a lot of us think about.

I really like how you brought up the rabbit theme. According to Lostpedia, there are tons of rabbit tie-ins besides the #8, #15, Ben's pet, Alex skinning a rabbit, etc. Rabbits are a fertility symbol (multiplying like rabbits), which, of course, is a major theme of the show.

You're "Must Kill Daddy" theory is pretty wacky! Of couse, we all know daddy issues is another major theme of the show. I'm not sure that I buy killing daddy is a prerequisite for being the Chosen One. Would that mean that Aaron has to kill Thomas? Maybe Alpert told Ben they were going to gas the DI, and because of his daddy issues, Ben lept at the chance to personally do in Daddy.

maven said...

Amused: I almost put VALIS down...it was so confusing in the beginning, but the Book Club kept me going! LOL I didn't think I could explain anything, but Melissa_lossa's questions really get the discussion going!

Unknown said...

I'm moving #9 to #21, and #4 to #22. But going by the original order, this is how I associate the songs (btw, you can find the lyrics to nearly any song, and certainly all of these, by Googling the title, artist, and the word "lyrics" if you aren't familiar with them...my associations go deeper than just the titles):

1. The Island
2. Desmond
3. 815 survivors
4. Kate/Sawyer (flashforward)
5. Rousseau/Desmond
6. Desmond
7. 815 survivors
8. Walt
9. The Oceanic 6
10. Juliet/Rachel + Desmond/Penelope
11. (general soundtrack song, but mostly Hurley)
12. Locke/Desmond
13. Ben/Locke
14. Juliet/Sun
15. Ben
16. Ben/Widmore
17. (general soundtrack song)
18. Locke/Jacob
19. Locke/Ben
20. Ben
21. The Island
22. Locke
23. Jack/Claire (flashforward)

Hi Gang. Sorry I never have time for more than a drive by comment since blogger was blocked from my days...WOE! I have been reading all of the above, and the podcasts for my commute have been awesome. David and Steve really have become a highlight of my weeks.
Kyle: LOL I actually started a Lost playlist and have a pretty good start on my iPod. I can't wait to fill in the gaps with your list. That kinda rocks!
Looking forward to tomorrow! Also commenting to link for my e-mail, and just wanted to say hello!

Hey, back!

I still think Ben's education is fishy. There are all kinds of jokes about people who have book learning are actually wusses in the real world because they have no experience. Are TPTB saying that Ben is the exception to that stereotype? I just don't know I buy that.

We watched another episode! Only one more and then the finales! Of course I'm up early because I woke up thinking about Lost. Ugh! At this rate though we might finish this season this week! Woohoo!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey guys - one more day to go! I'm having a slow-ish week at work, so I think I'll catch up on my podcasts today. :)

I also just posted an interview with Michael Emerson from TVguide.com over at Spoilerfixed

If any of you read Michael Ausiello, I highly suggest skipping the Lost questions this week!

memphish said...

I'm avoiding most LOST stuff at this point and saving it to fill in the loooonnnnggg hiatus. Keamy (the actor) is profiled spoiler-free in the USA Today today. Unfortunately they don't use that photo that we had. ;-)

Melissa_Lossa said...

I just watched the repeats from last week last night in preparation. :)

I noticed one thing, although I may be crazy - when the smoke detector is beeping, right before Jack sees Christian in the waiting room, I think the beeps are timed exactly like the alarm in the Swan hatch. The one that beeps when you get down to three minutes until reset.

Coincidence? Probably. These are the thoughts that pop into my head when I've gone too long without Lost!

Melissa_Lossa said...

I also noticed that during the pop-ups, they mention the names of the episodes A LOT. They referenced the season premiere several times, and used the title every time.

I don't know if that was just for the uninitiated, or if they were really trying to draw attention to them titles.

Tess315 said...

melissa
I'm jealous. I tried to record last weeks episodes but my new recorder didn't work for some reason. (My daughter wanted to watch the Idol finale). I know lostpedia has some of the popups but I like seeing them all and decide for myself which ones I find interesting. I keep checking the Lost website but they still don't have the episodes online yet.

maven said...

Morning the DAY BEFORE THE FINALE!

I'm so scared of spoilers! I feel they're everywhere. Although most sites list spoilers, you never know when someone will say something in a comment (except for TLC). So I'm staying away from reading comments.

Friday I have to be away from home all day, so I'm taking my laptop to the local library for free wi-fi so I can blog away here at TLC! But the libary doesn't open until 10AM!

maven said...

Okay, the Doc Jensen article is up! I'm counting on some of you to check it out and clear it for spoilers! Get going! LOL

Melissa_Lossa said...

maven - do you have a link? The only one I can find is doc's May 21 article, Deja Vu All Over Again.

Capcom said...

LOL, I totally agree with what you said about book-learning Twinkle. But...there are exceptions to the rule, President Lincoln being one of them. I myself got taught nothing about life when I was growing up, and everything that I know now is half from experience, but also half from reading and studying on my own. And I can picture Ben being stubborn and persistent enough of personality to learn the things that he wanted to learn, that were not being taught to him by the DI, especially to keep a few steps ahead of everyone else on the island. Hence, his extensive personal library. But I agree, once you teach yourself, you need that applied experience to solidify that knowledge, or else it's only theory.

I'll try to check out Doc, Maven.

Unknown said...

melissa: Here you go. It took me a while to find it after I saw the e-mail notice go out.

Melissa_Lossa said...

All right, I checked it out - Doc is super short and completely spoiler-free. It's just speculation on who might be in the coffin. Avoid only if you don't want to know WHEN we'll find out who is in the coffin.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Oh, and thank you for the link, Kyle!

2costa said...

when ben went to tunesia he straight out said he had been there before, which shows that he has left the island before, so his fourtane and knowledge could be tied to that, but i think he has some big money from widmore or hanso behind him, i think he was working with widmore since the purge and only recently double crossed him. Ben isn't just rich hes have your own airport(hararat)rich, which makes it seem like widmore or hanso money

Melissa_Lossa said...

Remember too that Richard started grooming Ben when he was a kid, so Ben easily had 10 - 15 years in which he may have been studying languages, combat, all kinds of things to prepare himself. We don't know yet what resources Richard has at his disposal.

memphish said...

Ben also seems to have a photographic memory. You never have to tell him something twice.

Ditto Melissa and Memphish about Ben.

Welcome back Ange & Twinkle;seems like old times.
Twinke,I spoke to someone who just finished Season3.He doesn't plan on watching Season 4 until the DVD comes out in Dec.
I couldn't live like that.
Maven, We will miss your comments, but I know you'll be back asap.
I had a difficult time getting through Valis.I think reading it on line, made it harder also.
At first it reminded me of reading a Lost script;with all those words some writers use to better covey the intensity of the moment. As I got into the story however, I did enjoy it.
I wonder how many of our Losties were "programmed" before they boarded Flight 815.The book must have some signifigance to the story if it was shown twice.
Melissa_Lossa,
As much as I don't want Lost to go away,I am looking forward to another great Lost Community Book Club journey through time and space.
I can't wait until tomorrow night.
When can we start clicking our heels?

Melissa_Lossa said...

takes a village, that reminds me - I'm taking ideas for the next book club! Let me know what books you want to read and when. :)

I'm planning to start off with Of Mice and Men and Lord of the Flies, since those were cut off last time. I know we have The Tempest, On the Road, The Invention of Morel, Survivors of the Chancellor and the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Let me know if you have other picks!

Twinkle said...

Ok, well I also have a theory about Ben gained his worldly-wise ways. Probably someone else has brought it up before. It might be an meaningless line of thought and not key to any plot lines. Here goes anyway. Remember Ben's question in Tunisia where he asked what year it was? What if, because of traveling around the world, presumably back and forth through time using the Orchid Station, Ben has lived a whole lot longer than just what subtracting the his birth date from the current date would allow? He could have lived many many extra years because of the way he travels. Then I would be able to buy how he got to be so experienced in a world he see until after the Purge. I grant you that he may be a genius also. :-)

memphish said...

Yesterday we were talking about Sarah and not Jack's mom being his emergency contact. After the last episode aired someone speculated that the O6s loved ones may be being killed like Nadia. Maybe that's why Jack's mom isn't his contact and why Big Mike doesn't mention Hurley's parents and why we haven't seen them at Santa Rosa.

maven said...

Melissa_lossa: Thanks for checking Doc out. I was worried for nothing...I saw that Coffin Bit in this week's EW hard copy already!

I guess Ben can get a lot of learning from books and real life experiences (lived over and over...LOL). But I still have problems as to his financial situation. The United Bank of Dharma stopped operating years ago. 2costa: I like your thought that Ben and Widmore might have been working together until the Purge and split apart then. That might explain how he got some of his money.

Fenris said...

Hey all. Seems time has gone pretty quickly even with the break and we're already at the season finale. I guess because of the short season. Anyway I've just put a pre-finale post up on Lost Bullets same as I did last season (see how wrong I can be this time). I'm just flying by now but I look forward to discussing it with you after I watch (which for me will be Friday, so see you all Friday evening).

New Bullet Points

maven said...

Hey, Fenris: Go glad to see you made it back in time for the finale! Going to check out Bullet Points!

Capcom said...

Yay, Fenris! :-D

lost2010 said...

I just supposed that once Ben met Richard that he met with those Others periodically and they taught him things. But he kept it dumbed down around Dharma even to taking the janitor's job because janitors get to see a lot and it let him be a spy for the others.

But then, I'm always trying to turn someone on Lost into a spy and they just turn out to be very ordinary.

Twinkle said...

Maven said: I like your thought that Ben and Widmore might have been working together until the Purge and split apart then. That might explain how he got some of his money.

Oooh! 2costa, that is a good idea!

Who on Lost has turned out to be very ordinary? ;-)

Mr. Bill said...

That was a great find with the comic book blog! I've been hoping someone would scan and post it. I would like a copy but I don't think I would pay $417 for it. The price was really close to being a few the illusive lost numbers...4 & 16. That would have been really funny! LOL

lost2010 said...

twinkle - Jack, Kate, and Hurley seem pretty ordinary to me in the future. But that may just speak to what a bizarre group of friends, family, and accquaintances I have.

Zort70 said...

Melissa_Lossa :

The thing that bugged me about the smoke detector scene was that in any real hospital the smoke detectors would be wired into the mains for safety and so that they didn't have to go round and change the batteries every 5 mins !

However as a plot point it was needed to get Jack out of the office and you are right, I did initially think of the hatch beeps when it first started.

Zort70 said...

I've just been reading the bullet points from Fenris and I have to say that pretty much sums up the main questions I have.

I really hope that we aren't going to spend 90% of the episode watching Ben and Locke trying to get in to the Orchid, and then have a very brief push a single button to move the island scene.

Will Locke have to play another game to get into the island moving menu ? Will he have to take an inteligence test like in Lost : Via Dolmus !

All these questions and more may not get answered tonight.

Although I'll have to wait untill Saturday if I download it or Sunday if I watch it when it's broadcast in the UK.

Happy finale day!!

I just posted the second half of the Michael Emerson interview from TV Guide over at Spoilerfixed

He actually doesn't talk much about the finale at all. He does say, however, that he likes playing Ben when he's in a jolly mood, which I think is funny.

Amused2bHere said...

Happy Lost finale day!

Sonny, you might want to email David or Steve directly (tlcpodcast@gmail.com) and let them know you are interested in the preshow.

My local paper Newsday had an article today on the Finale with a sidebar of the questions raised by S4. I had to laugh at some of them, any casual viewer is asking stuff like "Who's in the coffin?". I 'm not sure the writer actually follows the show:

When Ben was in the desert, why was he wearing an Orchid jacket and what doesn "Halliwax" mean?

Where is Walt?

I guess he never heard of Marvin Candle (or ComiCon). And isn't Walt in NY with Grandmama?

memphish said...

I'm finally reading Valis and so far I'm loving it. As ML said ages ago I like it and can follow it a lot easier than The Third Policeman. I'm looking forward to listening to the podcast and reading Ange's bullets when I'm done.

One thing has stood out so far and it relates to our discussion of Ben's vast knowledge. The book hypothesizes that we as individuals can tap into all of our species knowledge, so we can know everything humans know without having to "learn it."

As for future book clubs, I'll look forward to Of Mice & Men and Lord of the Flies. I read both last year. Hubby ran into a friend buying both recently for his kid's summer reading. I've also got The Invention of Morel with me and will start it after Valis, so I'd vote for that.

HAPPY FINALE DAY, AT LAST! (Why are we so happy knowing we have a long hiatus ahead of us? LOL)

Amused2bhere: It amazes me how some of my casual viewer friends ask the most basic questions! Don't they watch the show? However, re the Halliwax jacket: The casual viewer probably didn't check out ComicCon and/or see the Orchid Video.

I'm spoiler free for tonight! Whew I made it!

Melissa_Lossa said...

zort - good point about the smoke detector, although since I assume that Christian was involved in it going off, it being tied into a central system may not have mattered.

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - I have to admit that I'm intrigued by Morel and Regina's Jules Verne book, so I'd put those high on my list. Although I was really looking forward to The Third Policeman as well, and I came to regret that!

I think part of my problem with Policeman was that I didn't have time to read it until right before the podcast, so I had to rush through it. Valis I read much more slowly, and over a longer period of time, which helped me enjoy it quite a bit more.

there was a puff of white smoke that made it go off, but maybe it was'nt tied to a central system, or it waits to set off the sprinkler. I think Ben was working with widmore since way more recently then the purge, I think MIkhail was conflicted because he was loyal to widmore, why else fix up naomi and cover for her when she said she was not alone, or permanaently unjam the signal... Dharma may not have been around, but hanso still is, the food drops have been coming ever since, so i reckon the hasno foundation(diverted by mittlewerk or course) was workinfg with widmore and Ben as well, not until the swan imploded and locke pressed 77 has anyone come to assaess the island, and if "hostiles" have taken over. Widmore ad the freightys were already aware that ben pulled off the purge, so it reasons out that the 815'ers are the hostiles, because the others had hanso/widmore behind them. Mittlewerk said the dharma initiative failed, but not the island, he wouldnt have shown the alvar hanso video about the numbers and the island if it wasnt still releavent. As was pointed out before, jack saying we know the story on the way to O^ news conference, was very simuliar to mittlewerk saying we all know the story in the sri lanka video

Why would the funeral have been in LA if, even as Kevin Johnson, he was living in New York?

I don't see anything cut-n-dried about the potential identity of the coffin-dweller.

Happy Lost Finale Day!!! (altho, maven has a point.... why is this happy with a long hiatus to follow?) In any case, I'm excited about tonight!

How about we say what big revelation we want answered tonight?

Mine is: Does the island really get moved (in time or in space)?

Unknown said...

I'm saying it's gonna be out of left field to a certain extent, no matter who it is. I think strong arguments can be made for a number of people, and there have been no clear-cut clues or hints that say it could only be one person.

And since that's the last flashforward we have in the timeline (closest to current-day), I'd say it's an important issue that is definitely worth speculating on, no matter who it is.

Unless you're burned out with the show and just mailing it in (wink). Right?

I agree about feeling misled Lost2010, whatever that gets us. :-) I don't understand why TPTB made the effort to show us the obit clipping, throwing in yet another clue-type-historic-name (unless that was pure coincidence), and then say that the clipping really means nothing. Huh? Maybe we'll learn the answer to that mystery as well. :-o

Unknown said...

Well, I can tell you this: if you were still waiting for a big, satisfying storyline related to Kate's past, you were waiting for something that was never going to come. Law and order is the only thing harder to fudge than pure science. She had multiple felony charges coming her way if she ever made it off the Island. Anything less than prison time was going to be a disappointment.

Kate's story starts the minute she sets foot on the Island, and what she does from that point on. Everything else is boilerplate.

But capcom, I definitely agree that TPTB have some specific, up-front, and on-the-record 'splaining to do regarding the obituary.

Happy Last LOST day peeps.

I may be watching and commenting live tonight, but it isn't looking good. I am having connectivity issues with my internet, and CableVision (optimum) doesn't seem to have an answer as to why it keeps going out on me. So Far today I have been to the Optimum store to get a new modem and I have already switched cables around in my house to try and boost my signal at the modem, but it is still coming on and going out when ever it wants to.

Hope to see you all later, but if not enjoy the FINALE...

Wow. You're a housewife, and all you want from LOST is for Jack to get hit by a bus, and Kate and Sawyer to go on a murder spree on the mainland.

Get out of the carpool lane! You need more spice in your life! : )

I think on the subject of Kate's story, that there will still be more to come on that front. The latest thing we have seen is Jack in Last years season finale.
TPTB have said that the point of the off island stuff is to watch them all fall into madness so to speak, so what will happen to Kate after that Jack Flashforward moment still remains to be seen.
She could very well go on a killing spree and then on the run, the whole time putting lil Aaron in jeapordy.

That would certainly add some flare to her floundering story.
IMHO!

Hey Locos. Just popping in to say hi. Excited about the finale tonight but it's bittersweet.

Did anyone take the quiz over at DarkUFO? My score sucked, big time.

Black Swan said...

Hi ib4uc! I haven't taken the quiz at DarkUFO's yet, but I noticed he's having a Stop Lurking Day! He wants people to post who don't normally, yet they go to his site all the time.

I'm excited about tonight, too! I would imagine (as usual) the finale will answer some questions, but raise many more and that, along with TLC bookclub (which I'd like to do this summer) should keep me plenty busy. Off to take the quiz...

I'm not sure who could be in the coffin.
I'm guessing it's someone who got off the island or who can get off the island.
It's not Jack or Kate(or Aaron). I don't think it's Hurley. I guess Sun could be a possiblity. But I can't see Kate not going to her funeral. I haven't checked but as far as I can remember they didn't say if it was a man or a woman.
That leaves Sayid from the O6 which is possible I think he was living in L.A. But I hope it's not.
It could be Michael or Desmond if they survive the bomb on the boat but I'm not sure if they know how to get off/away from the island. Michael might.
Which brings us to Ben or Richard they both know how to get off the island. I don't know what Kate might end up thinking about Richard but we know she (and most everyone else hate Ben) so she probably wouldn't go to his funeral at least. The rest of the Losties I beleive (if they don't get killed) are still on the island.
My best guess would be Sayid but since he's doing work for Ben it might not be. I don't know. I'm sure people are looking to kill him as well, since he is an assassin.
Oh I guess you could put Daniel in there. But I don't think it's likely.

I can't wait!

I still want the losties to find a pet crate with bones in it to find out that Vincet was the smoke monster all along.

Capcom said...

I won't mention it until after tonight, but there was a prop that was leaked out during the summer hiatus as a behind the scenes spoiler pic, that has not been shown yet, and I WANNA KNOW WHERE IT IS!!! Like I said, I won't elaborate until tonight's shows are over, so as not to spoil the surprise if there is one yet to come. I hope that it was not just a foiler, but all the other behind the scenes pics with it turned out to be true by now. :-o

tptb said that they intended the coffin dweller to be one person then changed their minds, they said the obit details were not canon, so none of this NY speculation is in play. i guess they prolly intended on it being mike at first or something.

nice avitar capcom, i used to use the same one, speaking of 2001, i think apes have been using tools for a long time and been violent(ape on ape crime) before they didnt need the monlithe for that. I think it would have been a more watershed or tipping point moment had the ape used the bone as a pen and dipped it in blood for the ink or suddenly been ashamed by his nakedness and made a bone codpiece, now that would be deep

monolithe that is...

I sucked sooo badly on Dark's quiz! Those were pretty obscure questions IMO.

I don't care what revelations we get tonight as long as it's a BIG ONE! LOL

There's a Doc Jensen article up! Get busy spoilerfix people! LOL

Who is in the coffin?
I thought who was on first base.
Happy Lost Day everyone. If during the finale any of our
losties have to go into the drink,I hope they get swallowed up by a Dharma Whale (like Jonah) so we can get them back next season.

We've been doing this for 4 years. Time, and islands fly when you're having fun.

Unknown said...

Lost2010, sorry today's going so badly for you. I'm not trying to get into a fight with you. I want to talk about this stuff with you because I find the way you express your fandom interesting. It seems like the show irritates you more than it engages you. But I'm not trying to "win" at anything.

Best wishes
Kyle

Under 2 hours until part 1 re-airs. Hubby and Kiddo are clearing out of the condo for me shortly and have devised 3 hours worth of plans.

My last minute predictions are: Michael in the coffin, no resolution on Claire, Jin dies on the freighter, Island moves but we like bearded Jack don't know when or where.

HAPPY LOST DAY FOR THE LAST TIME IN 8 MONTHS...SHOULD BE A GOOD ONE.

maven said...

Well, all I know for sure is that TPTB will be leaving us with a big cliff-hanger...most likely the island is moved through space and/or time, but we don't see it happen or we just see Locke "execute" a magic button and cut to black! We'll probably see the freighter explode, but we won't see who dies on it.

Capcom said...

Interesting ideas, 2costa! :-)

Yeah, I fear that the freighter will blow up and we won't know who the heck survives it. Also that, like you say Maven, a button will be pushed, we'll hear the whooshing TARDIS sound, and then the boom-black screen.

But....I hope I'm wrong!!! :-D

Capcom said...

But I hope that we get to see that......THINGY!!!!

2costa said...

i predict the oceanic six will escape by helicopter and the island will move midflight and leave them near mumbata or whatever.

Black Swan said...

I wanna see that thingy! bbr

Capcom said...

Do you know the thingy that I'm talking about Codysmom? :-D I'm afraid to even hint at it before the show.

Joseph Finchum said...

Those pesky powers that be and their extended episode... are we to treat this as canon or not?

Some would say no since it wasn't originally aired, and some would say yes because it has aired.

Your thoughts?

The pop up about the numbers is interesting... can we prove that those things are all there or are TPTB messing with us... lol

Joseph Finchum said...

Those damn pop ups... are we sure the pop ups are fact... they just got one wrong!

"Dr. Edgar Haliwax explained that the Orchid station was a botanical (not sure--->) experiment."

But he actually did the opposite of that... didn't he.
