THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS - SEASON 3, EPISODE 22

Change. Is it coming? Will it be as surprising and radical as promised? Evangeline Lilly seems to think so as evidenced by her recent gushing on Live with Regis & Kelly. "I have never been so excited about this show before...and the finale of this season is the biggest reveal we've ever given ever in the history of Lost...It is actually a reveal that tells you where the next three seasons are going to take us and it is so exciting and it is such a payoff for any of you fans out there...The reveal is so satisfying, it is so juicy and good."

If that doesn't get you psyched for tonight's episode, I don't know what will. Here we go...

Codysmom's right!! Jacob is the future Jack! He's working to change the past. That's why Locke can't shoot him. It would cause an undisierable change in the future. You're daughter is a genius!

Great=Greta in the last post. A2BH, do you really think that was Ben code for shoot the sand? And was Tom or Pryce "in charge" then? Tom seemed to be shifting alliances though Pryce never did. Hurley is my hero.

To the Charlie couldn't close the door from the other side theory. There was a wheel on the other side. The kind Jack opened in the Hydra. So it must just be that he made peace with not wanting to outrun death anymore.

I seriously cannot wait to watch all three seasons in a row. I didn't watch Season 1 live, I watched it on DVD and picked things up with the start of Season 2, but I have to say Seasons 3 (with the exclusion of most of the first 6 episodes and SIASL) was awesome. But we've gotten pretty far from my being able to identify with the actions of the survivors. With Season 1 I was always trying to figure out what I would do because I've been on that flight. Now, I'd just hope to be blending into the backgroud.

You know we've always thought this show was about redemption. Future Jack clearly demonstrated he had not found that. In fact, he had reverted to become his father rather than to emerge from the shadow his father cast over his life.

Just before Mikhail shoots the two women in TLG, he wonders why they never asked why they were asisgned to taht station. The blonde one replies that "the minute I start quesitoning orders this whole thing, everything we're doing here, falls apart".

So what are they doing there? What is the objective of the others? What is it that they believe they are working towards?

And still no explanation of why it's called The Looking Glass, or why the logo has a bunny...

It's a shout out to the Alice in Wonderland series as we said last week. I'm going to do some research and will post my findings on the book, but I suspect the book and this script have simialr plot lines.

Ded, I keep meaning to tell you, your avi looks like an Evil Dead Ugly Betty, which I like.

melissa_lossa siad - I think the jamming started after the purpling, though. Maybe that's the whole reason that Ben wanted the purpling to happen - it was his cover for the jamming.

Exactly what I thought also. The communications on the island we lost after the sky turned purple. Another Ben rouse he used to his advantage. Did the Swan really have any purpose?

memphish said...

DiggityDirge, Don't waste your time. I've read Alice and TTLG recently and it's not facially obvious. I think it's more abstract, along the lines of we think our world is pretty good, but the reality is the one that's seemingly opposite it, withdrawn, technologicaly unadvanced, is the superior one.

Beverly said...

Does anyone remeber what Tom's last name is?

Lostit, the only last name we've ever been give for Tom was "Friendly."

When Jack was talking to Tom on the walkie I half expected them to acknowledge some kind of plan they had together against Ben because of the way tom motioned to Jack about the room being bugged. It just seemed like Tom was working against Ben at that point. Another disappointment.

Even though Tom ended up still being a bad guy, though, Sawyer's heart seems to have turned to steel after killing his nemesis. No forgiveness in there at all.

Ebonflame said...

OMG!!!! It kinda all makes sense to me right now... i think. if Naomi is working for Hanso that would be how she knew all of the details about a fake oceanic flight 815 being found.

memphish said...

Lostit, I thought there was going to be a Jack/Tom plan too. Sawyer taking Tom out should be a relief to Jack then.

I also thought Jack was going to tell Kate that the reason he stuck up for Sawyer was that Sawyer is his friend. The admission of love post Juliet kiss---I'll address that over the hiatus. There are so many reasons it's freaking wrong, the least of which is time looping.

memphish said...

The Danielle/Alex thing was kind of weird and creepy. If I thought my mother died when I was a baby and then all of a sudden some jungle woman has her hands all over my face, I don't care how mad I am at my dad, I'm not tying him up with her. And what about the Alex/Karl reunion. Nothing there.

From Memphish's TV guide link

Cuse said: "We didn't really want to throw him back into the throes of addiction again. It just felt like this was the best path for this character."

Meaning off the island in Flash forwards he would like everyone else have to de-evolve to an addict again.

Joseph Finchum said...

Memphish
I watched the pilot and while it wasn't great I am going to give it the DAYBREAK try.... because I thought Daybreak was really good.... lol

Carissa said...

I agree about them not wanting Charlie to de-evolve, but is everyone? Kate didn't seem to be running from the law and didn't look as messed up as she has in the past. I think she likes coming back because she's paid off by someone to keep everythign a secret and thus has been given some kind of amnesty. It turned out good for her, but not Jack.

memphish said...

Yeah, but Jack didn't devolve into his Dad. He wasn't his dad until after his dad died and then the Island and then the rescue. Yes, he had issues in that he worked too much and had to fix things, but he didn't have to use drugs and alcohol to drown everything else out.

I'm sad as someone said earlier that the one semi-nuclear family we had has now been destroyed. Now we're left with Ben, Danielle and Alex.

maven said...

They sure got MY head spinning. Playing catchup, but it's getting later and later and more and more of you are going to try and sleep! Will sleep on all of this also, and I've got most of tomorrow free to try and figure this thing out!

Joseph Finchum said...

yeah but what if Kate was actually, lets say, pardoned and she decides to stay put with Malcome Reynolds and it turns into some wierd thing where she hate's her life and can't get out. That's why she sounds paranoid with him...

Plus it gets Nathan Fillion back on TV again....lol

Go Browncoats!!!!!!

memphish said...

All right, I hung in there until the West Coasters showed up, but now that bloggers running v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y as is my brain when it's not racing like mad, I'm going to try to sleep. After all, we've got a long, long time to try to make sense of all this.

From what TPTB have said on the OLP it might be until Comic-Con in July that we get a clear opportunity to question them about all this jazz. I really, really, really hope this is not like that Heores episode in terms of being one path they could have taken but didn't in fact take. While I really don't want Jack to end up like that, I don't want a bunch of course correcting revisionism either.

Good Night Friends!

DiggityDirge said...

Really Good epi. Not sure who is still on, but here are my comments.

1. Naomi – The door is still very, very open on if she is good or bad. Very interesting she uses a rouse to gain the trust of the Losties by having Dez’s picture. Could the freighter actually be an other trap? We know from Penny that she does not work for her and the team trying to find Dez. Wouldn’t surprise me if this was another Ben trap, or one orchestrated by someone above Ben in the hierarchy. Maybe Richard? Maybe the third island we have always speculated about.

2. Charlie’s redemption: I have always blasted Charlie and his storyline and wished the would have kept Ecko and Libby going. The writers have proved me dead wrong. I used to think there was no way to expand on his drug addict story and lame family issues, but the writers completely redeemed this character in my eyes. I was sad to see him go, but proud to see him follow through on it. Also, the last ditch effort to tell Dez that it’s not Penny’s boat. First epi of next season is Dez running back to Jack to tell him about their findings, and Jack’s revelation that Ben told the truth.

3. So we all think it was fairly obvious that Jack’s cell was a new razor or Krazrt hat hadn’t been out long. It was fairly obvious this was a flash forward, but a really interesting spin none the less. Jack has basically turned into his dad after returning from the island.

The funeral has to be one of the following: Michael (first choice) , Locke (2nd choice), Ben (3rd choice). Michael because even saving the losties can’t redeem him for the crap he pulled and devastation he caused. Locke, because he has obviously declared himself on his own and away from the group and their goals, and Ben because everyone would hate Ben for good reason, but Jack would feel some remorse because Ben was right about ruining everything by getting off the island. I do think Kate and Sawyer are together, and as the love triangle continues to spin Kate will eventually choose Sawyer over Jack and Sawyer will want Jack out of their lives for good. The only one I can see having an impact on Kate was Sawyer.

4. While Ben has always been extremely cunning with the Losties, he has always been weirdly truthful with his own people. At least I believe so. For the third time in as many weeks we learn about the key lies Ben has told to his own people. He wasn’t born on the island, Alex obviously was not his daughter, and tonight Ben is exposed for lying about the looking glass and that he was running a con on them about the communications. Ben has always created the illusion his people could leave if they wished, but has never had to lie about.

He used the Swan implosion to his advantage to take a few of his loyal subjects to help him jam the communications. Did the swan really ever have any purpose besides the electro magnetic properties?

Ben has also had his moments of truth. Telling Jack about his name is one that sticks out in my mind. I also believe him telling Locke that the swan was a joke was truthful. Ben is very careful about how and when he lies. I smell another rouse.

5. Everyone seems to really trust Jacob and yet no one but Ben can talk to him and see him. That has to be the weirdest part of Season 3 for me. That Jacob is this omniscient character. Too weird!

6. Hurley the unsung hero. My take was everyone cares about Hugo so much, that would not let him help or endanger himself. Even Sawyer. Hurley was probably his only friend, then “the doc” because of their competitive streak against each other. Just like Charlie, Sawyer says something mean to make Hurley go away to safety. Little did they all know Hurley would save the day! Great, great part of the story. And he was damn proud of himself for it.

7. Just when I started to like Mr. Friendly, he goes down. We start to see the good in Tom, and then bam. Good for Sawyer for not trusting him, and good for Jack telling Tom he was a dead man. So much for being football buddies.

8. The temple: What is the temple and why lead the remaining others there. A safe spot to keep the remaining loyalists safe from an attack? Just another other hideout. Guess that is a season 4 answer.

9. I would want too see screencaps but I say for sure, and I am the last person to ever post something like this, but the girl in the hospital bed that Jack rescues after his botched suicide look strangely like the Brunette killed in TLG. Can’t remember her name.

Joseph Finchum said...

I just thought I would add, I really hope Desmond will bring Charlies Body back. If he has to die he should at least get a proper burial. Either on island or on the mainland.

Uh...it ONLY took an hour to catch up on comments! haha

I've been looking at the article on darkUFO and see the same things that you guys see. Given the letters for the name it doesn't seem to be someone we know yet. But wow it would be cool if it had been Michael.
In the flash forward Jack is touted as a hero even though he knows he's not and he is lying about the accident. Well in all other episodes, the FB story paralleled the real time story. I think- like someone else said- that something terrible happened and that Jack has serious survivor guilt, that whatever he did caused something bad, but everyone on the outside believes he is a hero, and that is the lie that he cannot live with. Whew am I making sense?! eh....now the show is going to be like The Nine- what happened to the Losties when they got rescued....

So maven- Jacob isn't Christian Shepherd...but Jack Shepherd?! I like the future Jack=Jacob thing too.

And BTW- welcome back Sean, Megan and Crossfade! Long time no see!
And also welcome to all the newbies- boy everyone came out of the woodwork for this one! And for good reason.

Why was Penny coming up on the Dharma communications? Is that a bit of a coincidence? Is there something fishy going on there?

Joseph Finchum said...

DeDJeZTeR said...

I was thinking earlier how mad I will be if they get rescued next season and the last two seasons turn into the Nine. sort of off island story. I don't want that. I would rather the last scene be them seeing a rescue boat, then following them off Island.

Good morning. Place mark. I got up early and sctually read through!

Last night crossfade said...The main reason I think it was actually Walt and not the Monster morphing into Walt is because he was older. If it was the monster, it would have looked the way Locke remembered him, right?

I think that it was Wlat and not Smokey too because of the age. The writers know their fans and they also know we wouldn't stand for a sugnificantly older looking Walt sans reason.

I think you are 100% on about Smokey looking like it would remember Walt looking, so we really need to think that Walt is somewhere else and projecting.

I still think that they are A LOT closer to Oregon or someplace not so tropical. There is too much going on with Oregon, and Patchy thought that TLG women were in Canada (which is near Oregon). *shrug* I just think there is more to the location than we think.

The thing that is bugging me the most is that runway they were building. I am still trying to figure reasons for that, and who is running the show that would need better access than a sub.

That's all I got for now...I enjoyed reading through from last night, and it was a great finale!
