Yeah! The prospect of yard work just got brighter as long as I don't take out my earbuds with my hedge trimmer.

I like Heroes, but it proved again last night it's not LOST. N**** is a much better pole dancer than Heroes' Nikki, and dark haired LOST Claire is prettier than dark haired Heroes Claire.

Very True... still a good episode though. - I like the future Hereos.

You still cant bring yourself to spell out the LOST N****.
RIP N&P - I think I am going to netfix the entire season of Expose

memphish said...

Bigdog, I thought the use of *** would just help clarify which Nikki I meant.

Last night's Heroes also made me really really hope there are not multiple timelines on LOST because I don't have Mr. Isaac's loft to fill with string to figure out what the heck is going on.

bigdog said...

memphish, we still have to be careful about that. I still think the four toe statue is from another time, kinda planet of the apes style.

Hiro had a hurley like line last night. " I scare me" who knew subtitles could be funny.

Morning all! LiIstening to Podcast n ow...Guys: I don't think Kate or anyone else checked Patchy's pulse to confirm he was dead. And TPTB in the OLP said that the fence wasn't turned up to full power...so, I guess, Patchy was just stunned.

I thought Heroes was awesome last night. We actually saw a timeline played out, and got some great answers (with more questions just like Lost!) Agree with Memphish that our pole dancer is much sexier as well as our dyed blonde!

engineer27 said...

While I was listening to Dein and the Goog, it occurred to me....

Maybe Mikhail is dead, and what we saw was really The Smoke Monster.

Scoutpost said...

Morning all!
memphish- hope it doesn't get too hot there in Memphis!
Going to listen to the podcast now. It occurred to me to wonder if Patchy was the smoke monster, but then I got so engrossed in what was going on, I forgot. If he was the monster, then we saw a lot more interaction with him than we've seen before, and even physical contact with him. I'm leaning toward Patchy being the real thing and that the fence just injured him rather than killed him.

Capcom said...

Hi All!

So Patchy was just stunned eh? Too bad that in Star Trek when they put the phasers on stun, that blood doesn't shoot out those people's ears as well! I think I would call that phasers on bloody-stun. Sheesh. I wonder how much blood your brain can lose out of your ears and still only be stunned? It kinda feels like the the foaming-bleeding thing was a bit of overkill to throw us off to assuming that Patchy was truly dead. I call shenanigans! :-p

Although, it did look pretty cool, and I did enjoy it. :o)

memphish said...

I don't think Patchy is the Smoke Monster either.

Capcom, I love your new avatar, but what, no toothpicks?

maven said...

I don't think Patchy was Smokey either.

I did have a thought that Juliet is very vulnerable now to Smokey. It obviously scanned her when she was outside the sonic fence with Kate. Now that she's "out in the open" and not behind the sonic fence anymore, I'm sure Smokey will be back for her soon!

Erich said...

I was impressed that neither David or Goog thought Naomi was an Other. They've come a long way from the infamous analysis of Claire's car crash. (I kid, I kid...)

I, too, was struck by the difference between Lost and Heroes, but I don't mind. Heroes is the closest thing to a comic book I've ever seen on film or TV. Besides, I don't know if I have time to overanalyze two series.

I'm guessing from the Heroes talk, people either TiVo-ed or skipped 24. It used to be such a great show. I hold out hope for future seasons, but they'd have to do something major to bring this season back. If I wasn't committed to writing a post about it, I probably would have saved it for another night and gotten to sleep at a reasonable hour last night.

Erich said...

It never occurred to me that Patchy could be the smoke monster. I guess I've moved away from thinking everything weird has to be smokey, since the whole "box" thing. Here's hoping we find out more about that tomorrow night... or two seasons from now. Whichever.

Capcom said...

Tx Memphish! Oops, I'll have to correct that! My littlest nephew and I are having fun playing with that South Park make-your-own-character site. The SP primitive style goes well with my limited paintbox talents! I think that we are going to make a Mr. Patchy next. Too bad that Timmy is not bigger, we could make a Ben too.

I missed the last Heroes, and subsequently, how they got an alternate timeline. Does Heroes play online like Lost does? Not that my slow-mo computer can play it anyway.

I don't know what I would think if Patchy was Smokey. But, I guess I'd just go with the flow like the rest of the show. And speaking of Pikki, I kind of wish that TPTB didn't cave in to the viewers, and just went along with what they were going to do with them. We might miss out on some really neat ideas of theirs, if they do that too much. Even tho I didn't like Pikki either for some reason (wierd how they were universaly hated, innitt?), I would have liked to see what TPTB had intended for them I guess.

maven said...

Erich: I'm with you...one show to over analyze is enough for me! I'm just enjoying Heroes as pure entertainment! Loved your recap of 24..."CTU High School"! LOL

Re Lost: Sometimes things are just what they are (I think Memphish posted about Occam's Razor in the previous thread.) And sometimes we just have to go with the flow and accept what we see...NOT!

Capcom said...

As someone said over on DarkUFO a while ago, Occam's Razor is good for science and reality, but when it comes to TPTB's imagination, does/can it apply? :o) But, it's very good to keep it in mind for those times when blood starts shooting out of our ears because our brains are spinning out of control on the theories!

Scoutpost said...

erich said...Here's hoping we find out more about that tomorrow night... or two seasons from now. Whichever.

Now that's funny...and true! That's my philosophy for watching LOST.

FYI fellow locos... just read on spoilerfix about an ABC special Lost: The Answers which will air 5/17/07 at 10:00 pm. Looks to be pretty enlightening.

engineer27 said...

capcom said... I kind of wish that TPTB didn't cave in to the viewers, and just went along with what they were going to do with them.

I think we basically saw their whole idea, but they compressed it down to a single episode instead of spreading it out over an entire arc. But they probably had to cut some things that might have been neat to see on screen.

Erich said...

I think Cuselof's statement in the OLP that anything that could happen "in a Crichton novel" is actually pretty helpful. The problem with some of the theories we come up with here is they'd be near impossible to explain to the casual viewer without flowcharts...and flowcharts don't make for good television.

The truth behind the mysteries on the island—the healing, the smoke monster, the "box"—should ultimately be easy to sum up. I try and use that test for any theories I'm considering. Note I said I "try."

Erich said...

Sorry, bad first sentence in my previous post. Should be "...that anything that could happen 'in a Crichton' novel could happen on Lost is actually pretty helpful." Still not a great sentence, but there you are.

Dennis said...

My thoughts from the podcast:

• TPTB said that Christian Shepard is DEAD!

• Mikhail's blood and foam could have been from an be implant like they gave to Claire, especially if he was in cahoots with Locke.

• The hidden room at the Medical hatch. I think if you take in to consideration the Hanso video we got from TLE, it's not unreasonable to believe that the hidden room with the vault door was a bunker in case there was nuclear war. The swan also had blast doors.

• Juliet's complaining :

I think they had the timeline a little mixed up. When Sabine dies, Juliet had only been on the island 6 months (the original agreement). She decides to stay and finish her research because Ben says he will cure Rachel's cancer. Since she has agreed to stay, she had to make the best of the situation, and integrate with the Others. Only 3 years later does Juliet find out that Ben has cancer.

Here's the Lostpedia timeline:

June 2001 – Sabine becomes pregnant
Sept 2001 – Juliet arrives on the island.
March 2002 – Sabine dies. Juliet asks Ben to let her leave, but she agrees to stay on the premise that Jacob will cure Rachel's just-returned cancer.
September 21st, 2004 - According to Juliet's flashback, she received Ben's x-rays after having sex with Goodwin and gave them to Ben the day before the crash. She also called Ben a liar, thinking that her sister was dead.
September 22st, 2004 - Flight 815 Crashes, Ben takes Juliet to visit The Flame communications station and Mikhail. There, they are uplinked to Richard who shows video footage proving that Juliet's sister is alive. Ben then orders Richard to return to the island.

Yes you can watch Heros online. They also have what they call a Two Minute Replay to get caught up. Plus a written recap with pics.

(In quoting Cuselof) "...that anything that could happen 'in a Crichton' novel could happen on Lost..."

Wow, oh wow! I've been saying since last summer that some of the plotlines on Lost were based on Crichton's novels, especially 'Prey'!!

I must've posted at least three times asserting that Smokey was a cloud of nanites, a la 'Prey'. And I don't think I was the only one saying this.

But no-o-o-o, TPTB have denied that this could be true. Just like Ben and Juliet, they lie! LOL!

Here's my theory: Dharma, in their experimentations on the island, created a machine (a magic box?) that produced clouds of nanites. If you've read 'Prey', you know that these nanites could take human form, and were profoundly destructive. Nanites, being nothing more than microscopic computer robots, could also be programmed to 'scan' a person in some way, and later take the form of someone from their memory.

Maybe that's how Locke's dad appeared bound & gagged in that room. It wasn't really Locke's dad, but the nanites pretending to be him!

My final assertion last summer was when I pointed out to anyone who would listen that the expiration date on all the Apollo Bars was "October 23". I even e-mailed David to tell him that "October 23" was Michael Crichton's birthday!!

This, to me, was an Easter Egg during TLE.

And one last thing, and I'll end my rant: Nanites and quantum foam go together hand-in-hand. Case in point: Crichton's novel "Timeline", where the characters travel back in time to the Middle Ages.

We've been speculating about whether or not Desmond has gone back in time, or into a slightly different timeline. According to Crichton's novel, a person traveling through quantum foam might not come back exactly the same. His DNA would begin to experiences 'errors'. One such 'error' might be the activation of a hidden psychic ability to see briefly into the future.

Hmmm.....

Friday, everything you said before and are saying now sounds great! TPTB have given us proof that they are fudging on their answers to us by disputing the nanites, and then saying that about Crichton!

But that's OK, cuz it's our own fault for trying so hard to second guess them and spoil their writing fun for them and for us. But anyway, it certainly makes sense. And quantum foam....I haven't read too much Crichton so I never heard of that. Sounds juicy. Thanks for sticking to your theory and reposting it! Now, if we could just tear Picsel away from the studying, and get more theory on that going. :o)

Hey all,

Going to school now, will listen later.

About Heroes, yes it is not LOST, but a damn good show. That was the first time a show has ever taken a leap into the future that did not bother me. The beginning of heroes sets it up all the way through until the episode. So it played very well. I also like the way it kind of gives a glimpse of where things are going. We now know that Sylar willl kill Nathan, Candice, Ted, and Claire. This all goes with my long standing theory that Sylar is the true hero of the story. He has been trying to find Claire and Hiro so that he can undo what Peter did. The clinics opening up was a last ditch attempt to get more powers so that he could finally stop Peter. Just my 2 cents though.

Cya and Namaste

Friday's_Child said...

Hi, Capcom! Thanks for that! Here's more stuff I just got done typing:

Trivia of Interest:

In Michael Crichton’s supposedly ‘non-fiction’ novel, “Eaters of the Dead”, a Viking chieftain is ordered to return to Scandinavia to save his people from the "monsters of the mist." Mr. Crichton later revealed that the “monsters of the mist” were descendants of the Neanderthals.

Here’s a quote from IMDB: Since Michael Crichton published his novel "Eaters of the Dead" in 1976, it has become regarded as one of the most notorious hoaxes in Librarianship Circles. The Ahmad Tusi Manuscript that Crichton referenced in his bibliography as being the source of this story, is completely made up. The name of the translator Fraus Dolus is in fact two Latin words meaning both 'hoax' and 'fraud'. The University of Oslo, where this manuscript is supposed to be kept, have (since the book was published), on an annual basis had to send out letters telling enquirers that they have been the victim of a hoax.

(Gee, Alvar Hanso is Scandinavian. Coincidence?)

This might be a long shot, but has anyone looked at the list of the 'Lost' writers? Maybe Crichton's name is anagrammed there somewhere.

This gives us a small clue as to the kinds of minds we're dealing with here, and why we're always coming up "a day late and a dollar short".

Friday's_Child said...

Capcom said...
"But that's OK, cuz it's our own fault for trying so hard to second guess them and spoil their writing fun for them and for us."

Wow, Capcom, I think you hit the nail on the head! If 'TLE" taught TPTB anything, it was that we are a force to be reckoned with. So, they have to outright lie to keep things a secret from us! LOL!

Dude, Capcom, want me to mail you my copy of "Prey"? Oh wait, that copy belongs to the library...darn it. I don't need the Book Police coming after me.
Again.

Capcom said...

I like Heroes too Ded, it's my second fave after Lost. The bad guy is the good guy? Hmmm, this requires some thought.

Friday, is "Eaters of the Dead" a novel in the same ilk as "Da Vinci Code" was a novel that claimed to be laced with fact? I'll have to definitely check that one out, I like Vikings. But I would lose respect for Crichton if he turned out to be a Dan Brown. Oh well, he was young then. Does Ahmad Tusi translate into anything anagram-wise? Myabe these are things that we can talkabout during our lonnnnnnnnng no-Lost break. All the tidbits in the world that are in the Lost stories.

Was it Erich who said that Heroes was the best comic-style TV/movie he'd seen? I agree, but I thought that The Hulk movie was pretty good along those lines as well.

Friday's_Child said...

AH HA! I found yet another totally irrelevant link to Michael Crichton:

TPTB mentioned 'Capricorn One'. James Brolin starred in 'Capricorn One'.

Michael Crichton wrote & produced the movie 'Westworld'. James Brolin starred in 'Westworld'.

(Don't mind me. I'm just grasping at straws, trying to stay occupied until tomorrow night's Lost epi.)

Friday's_Child said...

Cap,

To clarify what Sayid's Girl said a bit ago about Capricorn One:

I think TPTB were giving a very broad hint that the Flight 815 that was "found" was probably an elaborate mock-up of the real 815.

Ha ha, Dennis!! I just loved your Crichton anagrams!!

thinbluemime said...

Theories are starting to sound like a bad 9-11 conspiracy theory of Enter 77, er, I mean, Flight 77

What happened to the bodies?

Scoutpost said...

Thanks for all the Crichton info Friday's Child. Interesting connections. You're right Capcom about TPTB, I mean I suppose they are mostly telling us the truth, but if we fanatics "solved" the mystery in season 1 and they let us know, then what would be the fun in that?! I haven't read any Michael Crichton- although I did buy Prey at B&N a while back for like $5 on the sale rack. Guess I know what I'll be doing this summer in addition to rewatching the episodes and taking copious notes (haha).

I am going to check out the quantum foam link. Interesting that it's in Hawking's book, and we've had several discussions on Greene's book- hmmm couldn't just be coincidence could it?

Another thought occurred to me while I was reading you guys posts-
since there has always been the thread of science vs. faith in the show, maybe things like the "box" and the monster have both a faith and science type explanation- I mean we see Jack's point of view vs. Locke's point of view all the time, so in the end do you think a lot of the things will be explained both ways and how we interpret or read what happens will depend on whether we as viewers lean toward being men of science or men of faith? Ok I know that's not earthshattering ... Could that happen?

Oh and Dennis- those anagrams are hilarious.

Capcom said...

OK, that's right, thanks Friday.

I think that there have been off shore crashes where the NTSB (or whomever) basically said that there are no bodies to recover because they ended up as shark food. Didn't one of the crashes off of Long Island result in that? Very bad for the relatives of lost loved ones, but there's nothing that can be done about it, I guess.

Capcom said...

Good point about S vs.F Scoutpost. I hope that TPTB don't leave TOO much up for interpretation, I get very frustrated by that, and feel that sometimes it's cheating, and sort of like ending without an ending. But, along the lines of what TPTB have given us so far in that vein of interpretation, I trust them if they would let some aspects of the end flesh out in that way.

Agh...I am bored, aren't I?

Sayid's Girl, do you remember what the clue was that told you that you were dealing with a robot? Was it a finger that would not bend? Or am I thinking of the old sci-fi show, "The Invaders"?

One thing about Westworld then on to tonight. Please don't let it be Westworld robots! That movie scared me to death when I was a kid and it would air as the "Movie of the Week." I had to move past my fear of Yul Brenner from Westworld to watch "The King and I." Part of this is related to a phobia I have caused by a visit at age 3 to Stone Mountain, Georgia where Indians (sorry for the non-PC term, but it was still the 60s) attacked the train and I nearly strangled my grandfather.

As for tonight, there is new Doc Jensen where DL refuses to tease tonight's episode. The 2nd paragraph lists whose FBs are the final three, but that's the only spoiler. Avoid if necessary.

There's talk about the "no survivors" ending from last week too, but I haven't had time to read it yet. It's amazing how much oomph that ending had when first delivered, but how easily it can be explained away when you just take a step back. Great stuff PTB!

Is information about the recap episode before the season finale considered a spoiler?

Otherwise I have some comments about the info ABC released about it.

memphish said...

Twinkle, does it contain information about things that haven't aired yet either in an episode or immediately following the episode? If so, it would be a spoiler.

Twinkle said...

Not really. I just interested in the list of answered mysteries and unanswered mysteries. Ah! Some of the answered ones might be in the next few episodes before it airs. Ok. Spoiler then. Thanks. But man what a nice little list. It gives me hope.

memphish said...

Twinkle, are you talking about the episode description from the front of DarkUFO? I just read that, and it seems to me only one of the things in that list hasn't aired yet. So talk away about the rest of them.

Dr. Muon at Dark UFO posted I have noticed before that Desmond and Jin are very nearly the same person: a man who went to his girlfriend's obscenely rich father to ask for her hand in marriage and was offered a job.
That was where their lives diverged. Jin said yes, but Desmond said no.

This is an interesting point. Are there any other examples where 2 different people are faced with the same choice but diverge?

You might argue that Kate and Locke were both faced with abusive fathers, but Kate chose to kill hers whereas Locke tries repeatedly to redeem his.

Twinkle said...

Memphish said: Are there any other examples where 2 different people are faced with the same choice but diverge?

Memphish! That sounds like a SOTL discussion! This week's is about infertility if anyone would like to share their story over there.

The item I was interested in is the one you picked out, Memphish. So I guess only old stuff is safe stuff.

Most of us think Mikhail was probably not all the way dead, right? I wondered why they didn't come across his body on the way back and why no one made a comment about it. "Where's that dead Russian we left lying around here?"

I like the idea that the cable on the beach goes to the buoy.

And the idea that the Others planting a fake 815 crash so people wouldn't come to the island seemed obvious to me too. The Others also could have influenced the officials examining the crash through planting their own people, bribery, or ??? I bet primarily they rescued and then planted 815's little black box. But where did the dead bodies come from? The original crash or another source? All in all, it's really creepy. I might have been losing my fear of the Others but this brought it back.

Twinkle said...

Two people who had a similar choice but diverged?

Juliet and Jack

They both had overseers that they were "related" to (ex-husband and father) and had professional conflict with. Jack chose to expose his father, to fight back. Juliet chose to run.

They also mentioned that the Others went out of their way to get Walt, but how did the Others Know about Walt. Supposedly Ethan was killed before he made his list.

Walt's stepfather Brian Porter was a Hanso employee. He may have reported Walt's special abilities to his superiors, some of whom may have been Others -- or, the documentation of Walt could have been downloaded by Mikhail.

memphish said...

Nice conspiracy theory Engineer27.

Good idea about Jack and Juliet Twinkle.

I also like the idea that Mikhail was in the neighborhood because he was working on fixing the buoy which I think is connected to that cable.

What do you think Patchy would have done if someone had checked his pulse? Was he only faking or was he lying dormant until healed?

Twinkle said...

Thanks, Memph. I didn't see it until you asked about it. I think Kate did check Mikhail's pulse. But a temporary change in pulse (slowing down, short term stop) seems reasonable given the charge he received. Who knows if he was conscious by the time they left? If he didn't fake it, he may not have known he would survive either.

Twinkle said...

I really like this line of thought, parallels between characters. Maybe we've stumbled upon something intentional? I'll be watching to see if Ben's family turns out to have won the lottery with the Numbers and started the Others with its funds.

Off to start my day! See ya!

memphish said...

I was trying to think of more people who made the same choice differently and thought of 2 characters who made a similar choice the same.

Boone and Sun both were offered what amounted to bribes by their powerful parent (mom and dad respectively) to remain under that parent's thumb.

I also thought of one different, but it's only sort of tongue in cheek. When facing the abandonment of daddy, Hurley ate and Claire did not.

memphish said...

I forgot to say, both Boone and Sun took the bribe.

Hi Guys

Just thought I'd say hi and enjoyed the discussions so far. It's very frustrating falling out of the loop as the UK don't get Lost until Sunday so I avoid this place for 4 days, by which time there's a ton of comments to go through and a lot of differing ideas to comment on.

Some quick thoughts:

Patchy: he was never dead. Even if TPTB have confirmed that the fence wasn't on full power, that's been my thought pretty much since we saw him "die".

I've been in one or two situations where I've received such a massive burst of sound the blood vessels in my ears have ruptured - fortunately I've not received any permanent damage - so it's entirely plausible that the fence rests in a low-powered "stun mode" (enough to knock people out through enough audible agitation which would cause bleeding in the auditory canal). Knowing Locke's a bit reckless at times Patchy knew he could manipulate him into shoving him through the fence.

I do believe that Patchy is also true DHARMA, and that Naomi has arrived on or returned to the island for him, which is why he responded to the signal flare and stole the satellite phone.

What Naomi's purpose is remains to be seen...

TPTB: I really don't think TPTB "folded" to fan pressure and bumped off N&P IF they had a plan for them - it's just stupid, and dare I say a little arrogant of the community to think that they could have so much sway. If N&P's only purpose in the show was to the exploration of what others outside of the core group have done since crashing, to show how their petty squabble had knock-on effects to the survivors (i.e. not telling them about a hatch, not saying that Jack, Kate and Sawyer were targets for abduction, etc.) and ultimately reveal Ben & Juliet's plan then it's fine to kill them off as their purpose is served.

However, Kiele Sanchez is listed as appearing in the upcoming episode "Greatest Hits" (interestingly Rodrigo Santoro ISN'T), so unless we have Nikki appearing in flashbacks or memories, would could yet see what TPTB had intended all along...

I'm in the process at the moment of trying to piece together everything into a grand unified theory that doesn't include any of the establshed sci-fi clichés (hey, it was mentioned and I'll take that challenge!) so when I have something I'll let you know.

Dennis said...

Shakey,

Please be careful with the spoilers. Future episode titles, and casting could be considered spoilers to some.

With only 3 shocking episodes left until the cataclysmic season finale, I am trying to avoid any spoilers.

Thanks :)

Happy Lost day! I cannot wait for tonight's episode - it sounds great!

I've missed out on discussion the last couple of days, so I wanted to make two random statements:

1) In Westworld, you could tell which people were actually robots by their smooth hands - the robots did not have any fingerprints or life lines.

2) dennis - just found out that a theatre in my city is playing Inland Empire in a couple of weeks. I am so excited! I seem to remember you mentioning it. Have you seen it? Is it good?

Oh, and great podcast as usual. I love listening to those at work, even though it make the people in the other cubes think I'm crazy. ;)

Melissa_Lossa said... dennis - just found out that a theater in my city is playing Inland Empire in a couple of weeks. I am so excited! I seem to remember you mentioning it. Have you seen it? Is it good?

I have two friends that are huge David Lynch fans- one of them liked it, and the other one didn't. I saw it the week before last. I'll say two things about it:

1. It's long - almost 3 hours, but it doesn't feel too long. I just didn't realize it was so long before I went.

2. I felt like Hurley at the end of DOC. When it first started, I was like "Ok, yeah I get it", and by the end I was like "What?"

I definitely want to see it again when it comes out on DVD in June.

Melissa_Lossa said...

dennis, let me ask you this - did you like Mulholland Drive, and if so, do you think that Inland Empire is on par? That one I've seen more than his others, and I've finally gotten to the point where I can say that I think I get it. :)

dennis:

I wasn't aware that a mere episode title could be construed as anything other than a title, certainly with this show - did "Not In Portland" mean anything at all other than a line near the end of the show saying "actually, we're not in Portland"? Seeing the episode name "I Do" instantly had me thinking "surely Kate and Sawyer aint going THAT far so soon" and as it turns out the episode was in fact something totally different.

As usual.

Surely ABC's own episode preview and promo pieces are more of a spoil than just an episode name?

Nonetheless, it's a moot point if we have people here who do view episode names as spoilers: my apologies go out to anybody who falls into that category.

Capcom said...

Hi LoCos,

Shakey, didn't TPTB or some of the journalists TPTB let in on things, like DocJensen, mention repeatedly that TPTB heard what viewers thought about N&P and adjusted their parts in response? I could swear that I've read that numerous times, by either TPTB or those "in the know". Additionally, ABC and TPTB have changed Lost's seasonal format a few times (split season, etc.) due to some overly whiney viewer outcry. So no one here has assumed that TPTB would change the show just for for us, we are just going by what we have heard and read from many sources.

*****Warning, POSSIBLE PREVIEW SPOILER NEXT, before my guesstimation,(for those who turn off the TV before the preview is shown)*****

Just for the record, going by what the previews showed us last Wed., I think that Locke has his dad tied up with the bag over his head, and Locke is telling Sawyer that it is Ben, to trick him into killing him. Although Ben could have changed his shirt, the gray shirt on Mr. Baghead looks like the same gray shirt that Copoer is wearing with the gag on his mouth. BTW, if we can take the previews at face value, that is really sleezy of Locke to try to get someone else to kill someone for him. Blech. I really hope that Sawyer doesn't do it.

*****Spoiler over and out*****

I'm so excited about tonight.... I've been waiting and waiting to see what happens with Locke and what the magic box brought him..

I enjoyed the podcast, guys... Thanks for putting in all the work on that!

I also like tying in the similarities between the Losties. Will have to think about that..

I'm trying to stay un-spoiled, too. I did read Doc Jensen and I don't feel spoiled by reading it. I personally don't feel episode titles are spoilers, but I could see how some might.

Black Swan said...

capcom, I think I remember on an official lost podcast, Damon and Carleton saying something about cutting the story-line of N**** and P***** short because of the fan hate of those two. They then decided to wrap it up in one episode for this reason.

Capcom said...

P.S. Dennis, it's difficult to compare ANY David Lynch movie to another, even his own! And what Lynch movie isn't abstract?? Heh-heh. :-D

Have you ever seen that very early movie of his where there is this lonely kid with parents that babble, who's bed grows a bloody tree out of it and an icky old lady is sort of bloody-birthed out of the tree? Nightmare inducing!

Shakey, I think that Dennis was specifically concerned about mentioning people who might be in an upcoming ep, who we would not expect to be due to their last observed state of existence.

Shakey,

The episode title is not a big deal, don't worry about it :) I agree, the last few previews have been very spoilery, covering multiple epsiodes.

Capcom,

As to what you are saying, Locke is not a killer, but he knows Sawyer, is, and I assume he knows why he is.

Capcom said...

Tx Codysmom, that's what I thought.

Tess315 said...

That's an interesting idea capcom but I think it probably is who they're leading us to believe it is. Does that make sense to you? Just in case there are some who didn't read your possible spoiler. And yes it's pretty sleezy of Locke not to do his own dirty work. There I hope that wasn't to imformative, but enough info to make since.

Shakey
I agree that in most cases titles aren't to informative but I know what next week's title is and I wish I didn't because you can pretty much guess what it's going to be about, for the most part. As a rule I could care less about the titles but this close to the end I liked to be surprised. But I wasn't up set about the title post however I'm kind of curious now. :)

Capcom said...

Right Sayidsgirl, I bet you're correct about that. I'm just guessing that because a lot of what they tell us on the previews, turns out to be upsidedown or backwards, in the show! :o) Like when Jin was talking to Hurley in English to make us think that Jin could, and then it turns out that it was only in Hurley's dream. That one really fooled me at the time! But I'm on to those knuckeheads now, haha! Everything that they preview, I'm gonna believe the opposite! :-D

By the time they could get back to them everyone already hated them.

The site is still there
http://www.hansocareers.com/
and the requirements for the jobs are really pretty funny, especially organ courier:

"The successful applicant will combine not only a working knowledge of tissue-transplantation procedures and the latest pharmaceutical agents involved in this growing field, but also an ability for high-speed travel, diplomacy and an extensive knowledge of transit restrictions and regulations as well as traffic laws around the world. Fluency in at least five languages including French, German, Russian and Chinese is crucial - as is a willingness to achieve fluency in sub-saharan regional and tribal dialects. Knowledge of martial arts, self-defense and extensive weapons training is essential, but applicants willing to receive training in these areas will receive due consideration."

Black Swan said...

Anger Management Director is pretty good, too...

Anger Management Director

The successful applicant will work with the Hanso Foundation's Public Relations department to rapidly and efficiently manage unforeseen human complications of the Foundation's work. Experience in human rights and environmental litigation is essential, as is a persuasive, open demeanor - previous experience in psychology and mediation are preferred. This is a highly rewarding but also high-stress position often dealing with rapid response and mission-critical variables - the successful applicant will report to officers in the Hanso Foundation's legal and Public Relations departments. Fluency in Korean and all regional dialects as well as comfort with sea-based travel will be required.

memphish said...

I have a couple of ideas to run pass you guys.

Juliet says that she's going to get a sample from Austen soon. What if the Others put an implant in Kate that will require Juliet to provide medical treatment including taking blood?

I'm also very concerned about this mistrust TPTB are trying to build towards Jack. (I know everyone here will be surprised that I'm worried about Jack :D) Sun was suspicious and she planted a seed in Kate, the preview this week suggests Desmond thinks he's suspect, and Jack himself asked Charlie in OOU "do you trust me?"

It is hard, hard to conceive of a Jack Shephard who would sell out the LOSTies for the Others. As recently as the day the sub blew up he was still the "I'm coming back for you" guy, so I don't think he was brainwashed during the flag football days. But apparently 2-3 days passed from the sub blowing up until the mud girls returned to Othersville for Jack and Sayid.

So the question is, what's going on? Is this just a story device to rip a wedge between the LOSTies. Why isn't Jack working harder to re-establish trust with the LOSTies? Is Jack really OOT now? If he is, why? Did he learn something true about them, was he brainwashed, was he implanted?

As for tonight, Locke saw Sawyer on the Island be willing to do what needed to be done when he tried to put the Marshal out of his misery. Will Sawyer put Locke out of his?

Black Swan said...

Thanks, dennis! ha, 3/4 birthday!

It's probably a good thing there is no TLE2, even tho the first one sure helped me learn a lot of new "computer stuff" and I'm glad I made friends here!

memphish said...

Sorry for my ridiculously long previous post. I'm apologizing by posting another one.

Are Locke and Patchy working together? They share a little moment in The Flame about how much they hate that Ben guy. Patchy says "I know. I'll hold you hostage and you're friends will hold my friend hostage and I'll shoot her and before I can shoot myself, you'll get the gun. Then you'll take some C4 and blow this place up. Then you'll shove me through this fence we'll be coming to and it will look like it fried my brains and I'll play dead while you go and blow up our sub. Only you'll sink it and blow up the dock. Yes, you'll get wet, but you'll dry. It's not like it will mess up your hair. Then you'll shoot a flair and I'll find you and we'll raise the sub and get the heck out of dodge leaving that Ben guy to take your new "friends" out, especially that doctor you can't stand."

Okay, having typed that, I think it's less likely, but what does everyone else think?

memphish, I don't think Jack has done anything to sell out the Losties (at least not on purpose). I think he's just holding back on what he thinks is his plan (jury still out on Juliet) that will save the day in the end. I think Juliet has told him a lot, but of course we don't know what's up her sleeve yet.

As far as Sawyer putting Locke out of his misery.... what exactly do you mean? (I see two scenerios here)

I'm not so sure Locke and Patchy are working together, but their end game may end up the same. I have thought that there were two factions of others and Patchy would be one who wants to go against Ben. I'm still hoping Locke's agenda is one that will help our Losties in the end..

Interesting, Memphish. Like all we need right now is for TPTB to throw some more major red herring wrenches into the gears to mix up the confusion and questions that we already have, right? I think that Jack is a little bit straddling the fence right now, between his "new" friends the Losties and his newer acquaintences, Juliet, Tom the quarteback, etc.

Okay, here's my prediction, based on no spoilers whatsoever: I think in the season finale, we're going to find out something shocking about Jack. My guess - he's killed someone. And not in a screwing up surgery kind of way. In a cold-blooded murder kind of way. That's why he wasn't on Jacob's list. I'm thinking either Sarah or the guy she was having an affair with.

I think this season has been about showing what lies beneath. Jack's flashbacks so far have shown us that he is capable of some pretty good violence. This, coupled with his alliance with Juliet and other characters' (namely Sawyer) desire to usurp Jack as leader makes me think that he's headed for a fall.

Anybody agree?

memphish said...

Thanks for the Locke and Patchy feedback. Everyone has been acting so fishy this season. But Locke at the fence was especially fishy, lying about the C4, shoving Patchy, etc.

And that's the weird thing about his needing Sawyer to do his dirty work too. Locke can't think his own hands are clean if he thinks he killed Patchy by shoving him through the fence. I know killing your dad is different, but still.

Right IB4UC, maybe Jack is just going to do his usual thing, that is, being torn between what he feels he wants to do, what he feels is the right thing to do, what he wants to do to be someone's hero, and who's hero he is actually going to be. His allegiences to both sides will probably be the source of some serious angst for him, like we have seen before many times. Oh no, not more Jack angst. :-(

I'm already having trouble keeping up. My previous post had a wv and there's been like four posts since then.

memphish
Hey I forgot that Locke and Patchy had a little time by themselves and I believe tht they did set up a plan in that short time. It fits in with my theory that Locke had let Patchy know he was on his side and he knew the fence wouldn't hurt him. That's why Patchy said thank you.

Capcom said...

You mean, fishy for even Locke Memphish? :O) Like the way Fred used to say to Ricky Ricardo, "Crazy for normal people, or crazy for Lucy?!"

Melissa_Lossa said...

ha, ha - capcom, it just wouldn't be Lost if Jack didn't get weepy every few episodes!

memphish said...

Melissa_lossa, I don't think Jack killed Sarah or her lover because he asked Juliet at the end of TOTC if Sarah was happy.

I agree there has to be some reason Jack isn't on the list and that we will find out by the end of the Season.

I saw on Lost Media today that Matthew Fox is supposed to be on Kimmel and Leno next Tuesday. Does anyone know if it's for LOST or if his other movie, Vantage Point, is coming out.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Oh, memphish, there you go again - shooting down a completely ludicrous theory with your never-ending trivia! :)

Okay, so he didn't kill Sarah. I still think he did something really bad - something we wouldn't think he was capable of.

Capcom said...

True, they must have told us for a reason (that TPTB will hopefully answer?) that Jack did not make-the-grade of The List.

Dennis said...

Wow, without WV, this place has turned into IRC. LOL!

Capcom said...

UNLESS, Jacob doesn't like Ben anymore, so Jacob didn't want Jack coming around and fixing Ben up? OK, it's a stretch, I admit. :o)

memphish said...

But how do you get around Jack's "I am not a murderer" thing with Kate way back in Tabula Rasa? Lying, maybe, but pulling the rug out from under us like that is not playing fair.

I'd like to see something like Jacob is Jack's Bad Twin who he was always jealous of and that's why he's not on the list. Or maybe Jacob is the kid Jack didn't help in a fight after his dad told him not to fight losing battles. I could see Jacob being like the bad guy in The Incredibles who has harbored a grudge against Jack for years with Jack even knowing it.

Capcom said...

Well, I'll help cut back on the posts by going out into the heat now to get my car's AC fixed. Ugh.
C-y'all tonight!!!!!!!! Eeek!

Refresh my memory -- who was on Jacob's list?

Tess315 said...

capcom
It's the exchange ending in. Not yet.
I may be reading to much into one sentence cause it only just hit me that way today.

Tess315 said...

Thanks David and Dennis for no wvs now I don't have to try 5 times to post. :)

memphish said...

ib4uc, I don't think we know for sure than anyone on Flight 815 was on Jacob's list. We could presume that the list on the female Other that Ana Lucia killed included people on Jacob's list, but other than the kids, Zach and Emman, we didn't know any of them. Cindy presumably was on the list. Walt was on the list maybe. Claire's unborn baby was on the list, but not Claire or Charlie or Sawyer or Kate or Jack or Hurley, right?

In sum, we don't really know. The concept of Jacob didn't appear until the end of Ep. 3.6.

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - maybe if Jack did kill someone, but he sees it as justifiable, he may not consider himself to be a murderer.

Okay, maybe I'm not right. And I was so sure! :)

ib4uc said...

Thanks memphish. Now I know I'm not going crazy.

memphish said...

Melissa_Lossa, I agree with you there has to be something "wrong" or "bad" with Jack or else the Others would have kept him, right? He is in fact one of the few people we know is not on Jacob's list. Patchy seemed to say that Sayid, Kate, Locke and Danielle aren't on it either, but then why is Locke still with the Others?

Is it 9 pm CDT yet?

Hey LoCo's! Trying to catch up, but without wv it's hard! Not complaining though.

Scoutpost said...

Finally caught up. Really good discussion today- hard to know where to jump in. I kind of figured the Locke wanting Sawyer to kill Cooper scenario was related to the fact that Locke wanted Sawyer to figure out that Cooper was the real "Sawyer". This is just my guess, however. If Locke went ahead and killed Cooper, Sawyer would not get resolution to his whole problem and would have to take Locke's word for it. Of course, while that explanation seems really plausible to me, it probably means that something else entirely different is going to happen!
melissa-lossa- I really like your Jack is a murderer idea, but memphish does bring up a good point. Darn memphish and her memory! j/k

ib4uc said...

Are we all diggin' the no wv's or what?

Scoutpost said...

Sorry for all the posts- I also think there is something more that happened in Enter 77- either with Locke and Patchy, or maybe Locke figured something else out that we aren't privvy to yet. I have no idea what, but this season, like memphish said, everyone's acting really fishy. It's like they all have new secrets that they're keeping from one another.

Thanks TBM. Nice find.

WMMR! I used to work at a company, and they were one of our customers, and I designed part of their website :)

The entire "Preston and Steve" audio podcast that this was taken from is available on the WMMR website.

Here is a direct link.

BTW, The interview starts at 1:17

I think this season has been about showing what lies beneath.

This reminded me of one of the promos for season 3, the one in which Ben is narrating. He says this:

"Without warning, they fell from the sky. They stood together, fought together, endured together... They are free from the world, free from their pasts. They finally have a chance to discover who they really are. And what could be more terrifying, than that?"

"Walt's stepfather Brian Porter was a Hanso employee. He may have reported Walt's special abilities to his superiors, some of whom may have been Others -- or, the documentation of Walt could have been downloaded by Mikhail."

When did we find that out. On Lostpedia there is oly speculations to him being a Dharma recruiter, but NO hard evidence points to this.

Where can I find this information?

On Mikhail...

This is just a random thought. maybe he wasn't trying to fix the beacon per say, but was trying to use it as a form of communication. They said it gave off a sonar ping that ships and Subs could here. What if he was sitting there with an old fashion teletype (beep beeep beep) trying to ping out a distress call to anyone who might come, then they would have more test subjects as well as a new piece of transportation.
Further out into the rediculous (sp?) Maybe Jacob is somewhere just off the island and he was trying to use it to ping a message to Jacob or his team (if he has one)in order to get their help. Which is why he came running to a flare in the same location as the beacon.

Now a second thought on the Podcast...

Don't get me wrong about this... it is not a complaint at all, but does it ever seem to anyone else that everything said in the TLC podcast can be found from the night of or the day after the episode right here on this blog. I mean some things are word for word... like the mostly sincerely dead bit. It seems to me that they are just reading the blog into microphones and acting as if it is a spur of the moment thought. I don't want it to be this but this is how it seems to me. I have a few times now heard them use an exact phrase that one of us if not myself has used.

I would really like David or the Goog to answer this one themselves, but feel free to give me your opinions as well.

OT, it's my Hurley's 9 month birthday today!

Please stop that you are giving my 8 month old kitten ideas of birthdays every month and I don't think she can take that kind of excitment... lol Birthdays happen on BIRTHDAYS, not at intervals. Just like you can't have a year and a half wedding aniversary... it throws off the whole gift giving schedual... LOL

Oh, good catch, luckguy! I had forgotten about that spot, but you're absolutely right. I think a few people have discovered their true selves recently:

Sawyer realized that he could be a leader

Charlie stepped up and made other people more important than himself

Hurley takes care of everyone

Desmond is realizing his true destiny

Kate has been faced with her own demons/shortcomings

Jack may be facing the fact that he's not mister nice guy

Interesting....

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but doesn't the "wok" in Jin's father's house look a lot like the security fence pylon?

That's funny, because sometimes I get the feeling that they don't read TLC at all :)
