Hey Admin -- I hope you're able to tell the gender tomorrow. I have a friend that through her whole pregnancy, the doctor said it was a boy. Well, when the baby was born, it turned out to be a girl.

How can you tell if you have a smart baby? When the doctor smacks their bottom after they're born, the penises fall off the smart ones. ba dumb bum

ib4uc said...

Looking forward to tonight's episode. Hopefully, it's as good as they're saying.

That picture of Ethan really creeps me out!

What is up Locos, a tremendous LOST day to you-

I haven't had a chance to read the previous thread, need to catch up. Freggin' work getting in the way of my LOST time.

Hi memphish, will you be around after LOST?

wierd said...

sounds like this will be a great episode can't wait to find out what happens tommorow

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey everyone! I've been so busy with work that I haven't had time to post. Just got all caught up, too. I might be back after the episode or tomorrow morning.

I wanted to say hello to everyone and say:

Happy (late) Birthday jgz350!

Sorry to hear about your uncle, Thrasher. I'm thinking of you and your family.

Good luck at the doctor tomorrow, Admin!

Take care, everybody, and I'll talk to you all soon! got some more work to do before the show...

Howdy y'all! I too haven't been able to check in as often as I'd like, however, I did manage to read all 409 comments last Wed. nite & Thursday, so I feel prepared for tonight's episode.

Last weekend, I had to drive to San Luis Obispo to help get a friend moved back to good ol' Arizona, so I missed out on Easter too. *sniff*

Can't wait for tonight's show!!!

P.S. My goodness, but SLO is a drop-dead gorgeous town! Do any of you guys live there? Jealous!!

memphish said...

Getting ready to get my LOST on just like Andy Bernard. But first a little Friday Night Lights season finale action. See you all during and after the show.

Scoutpost said...

as if Ethan isn't creepy enough...that picture of him on the front is really freaky! Still 3 hours til showtime here.

ib4uc- that comment about babies is too funny!

Thrasher76 said...

Hey all!! Just got back from the very difficult family only viewing. It is hard knowing you will not hear someones voice or see their smile anymore. It is just not fair or right. So sad.

Anyhoo! This episode looks fantastic tonight.

If anyone has played the new Command & Conquer game, or boy Sawyer plays a bad guy in the cut scenes of the game. Pretty cool!!! Maybe someone will put them on YouYube! I am going to go buy the game this weekend.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers, it means a great deal to me!!!

Scoutpost said...

friday's child- never been to SLO, but I gotta tell you, I lived in and/or travelled to many parts of this country and California is the prettiest state I have ever seen. Where in AZ did your friend move back to? I live in the Phoenix area.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Friday's Child - I love your avatar!

On an unrelated note, Mr. Melissa and I just got season 2 of Twin Peaks on DVD, and now we're watching that whole series in order. If there is anyone here who has not seen Twin Peaks, I HIGHLY recommend it. Especially for Lost fans!

Scoutpost said...

Hey Thrasher! You and your family are definitely in our thoughts these days. Glad you will be able to see the show tonite. Maybe it will be a nice little break from what you've been dealing with lately.

Melissa_Lossa said...

*hug* Thrasher

Scoutpost said...

Hey melissa- I loved Twin Peaks when it was out. Perhaps I should buy/rent the DVD's. It's been so long, it would be great to watch them all in order without much break.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Thrasher, that reminds me - does anyone on here read comics? There's a new comic out called new universal, and one of the characters looks EXACTLY like Sawyer. It's pretty funny.

Melissa_Lossa said...

scoutpost, I highly recommend it. You can finally get the whole series on DVD, although you have to buy a foreign version of the pilot still.

That show is so weird and wonderful. I love it! We're going to rewatch the entire series and the movie. Sadly, I missed it when it was out, as I was only 10. :)

Darkaardvark said...

I'm excited for the episode.

Just think- if someone had told you at the start of this season, "An Other will come to the Lostie's camp, not as a prisoner, and not in secret." You'd say, no way. And then if they added "Actually, they're more of a love interest..." you'd probably just stop listening to them.

memphish said...

Thrasher, still thinking about you and your family and lifting you up. I'm glad you feel you can share with us. It's an honor.

Less than 15 minutes now. I again recommend Friday Night Lights to any of looking for something to watch this summer assuming they either re-run it or it's out on DVD. NBC hasn't said for sure they're picking it up for next season yet, but they ordered new scripts. That's something. There was a shoulder dislocation on FNL tonight, and let's just say, like Juliet, that person played through the pain. I wonder if he'll dislocated his 3 more times next season.

And Ethan is creepy and not in that Ben is creepy but I like it way.

all my condolences to you and your family, thrasher <3

id like you guys to also pray for my friends family .. a girl in my school . she was killed in a car accident, she was only 16 ..

our school and friends are taking it really hard, and the wake tonight was heart wrenching . i can't imagine the pain of a parent losing their child .. keep that in your hearts .

memphish said...

Sara, I'm sorry to hear that. It seems more and more every school has to deal with that these days. My youngest nieces and nephews (now 20 and 22) go to several funerals every year. I'm blessed I never had to go through that.

Capcom said...

Hey LoCos! This is the next best thing to being able to watch Lost with all of you, I love it. It's good to see so many peeps online this week.

Great image for tonight's ep Admin, good choice! Good luck on the baby-sex tomorrow. Are you going to post the ultrasound on Youtube so we can see too? :o) And yes, thanks Dennis for all that you do!

Hey, I used to really like Rick Wakeman! I think that my favorite one was 'Journey to the Center of the Earth'. Can't remember what the other ones sounded like. Don't know if that's a good or bad sign.

Gotta go queue up the VHS (I know, I'm old school still). Can't wait to read the posts on the other side of the show!

Melissa_Lossa said...

*hug* for you, too, Sara

Melissa_Lossa said...

Almost showtime! I'll see you all on the other side!

Capcom said...

Melissa, I loved Twin Peaks too, especially the music. But the movie just ruined it for me, it was to over-the-top-sleeze-for-sleezes-sake. :-p Even the actor who starred in the series (name escapes me) said that too. Most people don't really want to see inside David Lynch's brain. But I would buy the TV series DVD for sure. It was great seeing Peggy Lipton in it as well.

"Cottonballs!!!!!!!!!!"

When I lived in California, I would visit my friend who went to school there. It's very nice there, with a cool college vibe.

I agree. I got mine on S2 on Tuesday. I haven't had time to watch it yet, but I am very excited! Plus, "Inland Empire" is going to be playing here in Lexington soon!!!

scoutpost said... Hey melissa- I loved Twin Peaks when it was out. Perhaps I should buy/rent the DVD's. It's been so long, it would be great to watch them all in order without much break.

Good luck finding Season 1. It has been out of print for a while, and used copies are selling for $150+ on Amazon. I can loan you the pilot and season 1 when you are interested.

So I need Sayid to take out Jack to get what I want. I'm becoming less and less opposed to that.

Tonight Sayid is us "I want to know everything!"

And of course Downtown was playing on Juliet's radio.

:(

damn juliets a fast drinker .

welcome to hawaii juliet !

wait, nevermind . lol

so this is all a mittelos bioscience thing ?

memphish said...

I think I've officially become a Skater. Dang!

So Juliet is going to have to save Claire, Jack's sister. Oh have freakin' nice. NOT!

There was loads of stuff in there, but my favorite was Her-A-Rat Aviation. I told you people last week, her a rat. Juliet = Her. I still don't know who HIM is. But Juliet certainly sold her soul to the devil pretty quickly.

And that's a very small sub. 4 people on it that we saw.

memphish said...

Seriously, I am now a Skater. Jack is on my all-time sh** list.

Joseph Finchum said...

I just wanted to jump in and say that even though I still think Juliet is a plant, I have this feeling based on how she so easy it was for her to say what she DID to Kate, that maybe this was Jacks plan and not Bens.

Anonymous said...

LMAO loving the awkward juliet hurley scene .

Anonymous said...

WOW ! so something happens to pregnant people on the island ??

nickname of the day: bug-eyed bastard .

CLAIRE ! :(

Unknown said...

thank you ded!! i've been screaming that too.

memphish said...

Yeah that would be a stupid Jack plan. Ded and Chucklez are all over it. I think they are dead right.

Darkaardvark said...

Major reveal coming up after the break (I'm just guessing)!

"I Think it happens at conception." More questions! Did they find a solution? Is that why they gave Claire shots?

And is Claire's sickness the same thing, or was it from something else they did to her at The Staff hatch?

memphish said...

That was an amazing segment. I can't wait to see what happens next.

memphish said...

I'm so glad are Losties are calling Jack on this we're not just going to trust you stuff. Yeah Beach Losties. And Yeah Jin. What do you care? I think that's the shirt Kate wore back in Season 1 when she drugged Jack after Aaron was born. (Girlie detail.)

Unknown said...

was claire an "incubator" for a disease to be spread among the losties???

*beeeeeep* dinner's done.

Unknown said...

and why does desmond only keep seeing charlie's demise???

Unknown said...

*dum dum dummmmm*........pfft.......figured that much. (the ethan thing)

memphish said...

So my theory is the Island can't heal Ben because he's scared. When Locke was frustrated because he couldn't open the Hatch he was scared and his legs were affected. If Ben conquers his fear he will walk again.

Hi, Scoutpost! Sorry it took me so long to get back to the blog. I hate how real life interferes with my Lost life! Ha ha!

To answer your question, we both live up here in Flagstaff. I was born in Prescott, but we moved to Flag when I was only four, so I feel like a Flag native. What part of the Valley do you live in? OMG, the heat!!!

MelissaLossa: Thanks for the compliment on my avatar! It was only two weeks ago that I discovered that I could upload an animated one. (I'm not much of an expert on this stuff...ha ha!)

Anonymous said...

what was that mark on the tree ?????????

same one as juliet's mark ???

Friday's_Child said...

Gosh, Thrasher, my heart really goes out to you and your family. Both of my parents are deceased, so I can relate to how horrible you're feeling. The only real comfort is in knowing that you are in all of our thoughts and prayers, and that we all care about you very, very much!

Hang in there, dude, as Hurley would say...

Friday's_Child said...

Oh, sorry....are you guys now watching the show?

Darkaardvark said...

Not the same as Juliet's Mark. It was a vertical line intersected with a horizontal line to form a +, with two outward curving lines vertically on either side. It seems really really familiar, so I'm pretty sure we've seen it before in the series, but I can't of where. Will try to research after the show.

Anonymous said...

wow !!!

this epi is like a big, overstuffed sandwich .. it's so good, but when you try to eat it there's too much to bite off .

memphish said...

The mark was a new symbol or at least not Juliet's.

Why was it daylight? The caves were a 1/2 mile from the beach.

Juliet's got some balls I must say and a Botticelli like body.

She's still an evil clinical researcher though. Will she make Sun the new control.

memphish said...

I forgot to say that Ange may be right about the Skate-let.

Friday's_Child said...

Yikes, I'd better get outa here. My Lost epi doesn't air for another hour, and I don't wanna accidentally see a spoiler.

See ya later, alligators!!

Ange said...

Woot Skate-let...if you post it, it will happen (SEE!). Okay fanning myself, I am tired from watching that. Let me pick myself up off the floor. Sweet dreams everyone.

memphish said...

Wow! What an ending. They could have completely kept us hanging at the end of the Jack and Juliet scene, but No. Yeah for TPTB. I told you she was an evil, evil plant. She is an evil, evil plant and she was just sleeping with Goodwin to help Ben and every other bad thing I can think to say about her.

Joseph Finchum said...

Hey Chuck,
Looks like we were both wrong... lol

Darkaardvark said...

One week left island-time to the season finale, eh?

Carissa said...

Knew Juliet was a plant. But... She's none too happy with Ben. Will she turn on him? Or will she keep following his will?

memphish said...

Carissa, good point, but so far she's done everything Ben wanted her to.

Carissa said...

Memphish,

How would sleeping with Goodwin help Ben?

Carissa said...

Is she follwing Ben because he can send her home? She's stupid!

memphish said...

What if Goodwin was the head of the "we're not happy with Ben" camp. Really, I'm just bad-mouthing her because I can't stand her and she makes Jack weak and Jack is my favorite even though I am now a Skater.

Unknown said...

and off to bed and to wallow in my sorrows.

later.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Wow - that was so great!

Just when I was starting to trust Juliette... WHAM! Awesome.

memphish said...

Do you think Claire will have to keep taking the shots? Will Sun have to start? I'd guess yes.

The serum that Desmond and Claire got before had the same numbers, but you'll notice that Jack and Juliet cleared the tent before the injection so Demond may not know it was the same stuff. Why would it be the same stuff? Unless they implant devices and trigger the sickness a la Rousseau's story.

Too much speculation.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Some great moments, too. That Sawyer/Kate reunion was so heartfelt. And I loved that shot of Charlie, holding both Aaron's hand and Claire. So sweet!

memphish said...

How many moves ahead is Ben that they implanted Claire in the first 2 - 3 weeks on the Island and now they're triggering it more than 2 months after that.

I think Ben has Flashes a la Desmond.

memphish said...

Any guesses as to how many hours it is from the Barracks to the Flame? The news stories were up pretty soon. I guess they may have gone up as soon as the flight lost radio contact not after it was due to land.

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - I agree. My guess is that now that people know that Juliette helped Claire, someone will come forward with the info that Sun is pregnant.

Now that we know what Juliette was up to, I would agree with the folks who said that she is after Sun and her baby.

Capcom said...

Very juicy! I liked it! Now the Losties have another reason to not like Jules, she knows all their bad points. People don't normally enjoy having those kinds of know-it-alls around.

Funny, lots of us thought that she might be pining over losing Ethan, but she was actually with Goodwin! Interesting.

I was so waiting for Juliet to say to Jack, "What's with the beach gear, I'm going back to the Motel-6 and my nice warm bed!"

Anonymous said...

so then was juliet lying about the whole ethan kidnapping thing ? cause its not the disease .. but we know there was one ?

talk about information overload .

Melissa_Lossa said...

Now, Alex said that Ethan and the Others were planning to steal Claire's baby and kill her. Do we still think that's true? If not, how could Alex have gotten that wrong?

Joseph Finchum said...

Hey Chucklez,

What I meant was that we were wrong about it being Jacks plan, unless of course that scene with Ben and Juliet was just a precursor to Juliet following orders from Ben which leads Jack to think it is his plan. Then we are right again.

Dude man, sorry to hear about all your woes. Life can be tough and these are the moments that make us stronger. Don't let it get you down. There is a whole world out there to keep you busy.

Thrasher,
I am sorry to hear about your uncle. I hope you and your family are doing well. Although I don't pray, you and yours are in my thoughts.

So Hot Dang that was a good little blip at the end of the episode. She is a dirty dirty girl... lol

memphish said...

Did you notice that Karl was the X-ray tech? Juliet says to Goodwin I had Karl develop some X-rays.

Melissa_Lossa said...

We know that Juliette's ex was smushed by a bus after she thought about it.

Knowing that she was hooking up with Goodwin, does anyone think that perhaps she imagined Ana Lucia's death, thus making it happen?

memphish said...

Ded, you, your avi and your statement about Juliet made me LOL.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Here's another question: Does Alex know about the issues with pregnant women on the island? If so, where does she figure she came from?

And.. where did Karl come from? He's been on the island long enough to hang out with Alex in her backyard, and he's about the same age.

Joseph Finchum said...

I have to agree that she may be after Aaron, but there is no way she could know about Sun's baby. Sun and Jin off the Island could not have kids. That would be in their medical records. Sun only found out aftre being on the island for almost two months. Juliet could not know that Sun is pregnent, but she may find out and have to alter her one week plan that Ben laid out for her.

Anonymous said...

! after juliet wakes up from the submarine trip, she goes and looks around .. the scene cuts quickly to two guys sitting a talking, and then cuts back .. one guy's shirt has something that looks like one group of lines from the dharma symbol .

Capcom said...

I wonder how it is that Rousseau was able to give birth and not get sick? Especially since her team supposedly got did get sick? Am I missing something there? Did she have the baby before they landed on the island? Tx.

memphish said...

Good questions about Alex. According to Rousseau's story to Sayid, she was 7 months pregnant when she arrived on the Island (I think, not checking yet, where's Dennis). Juliet obviously wasn't there then. How did Rousseau have a successful delivery?

Melissa_Lossa said...

Good point, ded, but consider this - how did Juliette know about the guy that Sawyer killed right before the flight? Did someone tie him to the murder after the flight? If not, it seems that she has information on him that wouldn't be in an official file.

memphish said...

Ded, we still don't know what information the Others managed to extract from K, S and J. All three of them knew Sun was pregnant.

memphish said...

Melissa, I wondered that too. It's in my notes. The authorities didn't know that. They kicked him out for a bar fight. Now I think they managed to question Jack, Kate and Sawyer without them remembering it. Room 23 or something else.

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - that seems right. I think that Rousseau's team got sick after she gave birth, so she may have had one of them to help her.

Although I may be wrong about that. Not sure.

Also, have they been doing tests on Alex? If Rousseau is telling the truth, then she was the first successful birth on the island, not Claire. How come nobody mentioned her? They obviously know that she had the baby.

Capcom said...

And Claire said that she was eight months preg, when Jack asked her at the crash, right? You'd think that Claire would have a better chance of avoiding the problems than Rousseau.

Well, I guess that we know exactly why they are stealing kids. But, we still don't know why Jack so blithly said that they were bettter off with the others, or whatever.

Anonymous said...

i'm sorry, there is DEFINITELY something to do with time on this island .. they mention it too much, especially in this episode, for it to be a red herring .

Capcom said...

Good point, the Others could have just drugged up J,S,&K to get the info out of them, and then found out about Sun. Re, the poke-holes and band-aids they had on their arms after capture.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Yeah, because it seems that they would have to have gotten that info from Sawyer himself. No one on the island knows about that.

Okay, one more question: Remember when Ethan kidnapped Claire, he was trying to talk her into giving him the baby, to keep Aaron safe? Is it possible that the Others did the same thing to Rousseau? maybe that's why she's so messed up. It's not that they took Alex from her, but that they tricked her into giving him up.

Anonymous said...

well we know juliet lied about the claire being sick thing, cause she had the implant thing .. she also said that claire was the first woman on the island to successfully give birth . so we have reason to believe that she was lying about that too, and that it really was rousseau .

Unknown said...

tonight was a fun episode!

i'm going to catch up before i post thoughts about tonight

admin & mrs admin - don't go anywhere close to the island!:-)

memphish your avi should be everywhere tomorrow.

memphish said...

I've been thinking since TMFT that they talked Rousseau out of Alex. Made her think it was her idea like Alex herself said and that Rousseau's guilt is part of what's keeping her from really being able to find Alex all this time.

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - good thought about her guilt. It would be a lot harder for her to have to tell Alex that she just handed her over.

Anonymous said...

the others do seem to do this con thing .. have an idea, and make it seem like you came up with it .

memphish said...

So Ben was lying about Rachel's cancer coming back right? He just told Juliet that, faked some charts to keep her.

Capcom said...

Ben doesn't lie. :o)

Anonymous said...

i think i'm talking to myself .

i guess i'll just put my two cents in tomorrow, then .

goodnightt .

Melissa_Lossa said...

I don't know, I think Ben was telling the truth about Rachel. Telling Juliette that would only make her want to leave more, so it would be in his best interest for Rachel to be healthy.

I think that's part of the reason Ben was so shocked by his own cancer. He can cure everyone else, but now his island home has betrayed him.

memphish said...

I think the Others use the Liar's Paradox. They are always lying.

Melissa_Lossa said...

On an unrelated note, I found it interesting that the reason that Ben didn't like the book Carrie was because it was "depressing." I wonder why he thought so?

I always assumed that he didn't like the supernatural aspects of the story, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

memphish said...

I guess I'm going to have to read Carrie now. I haven't yet. Why was Ben out of the book club a mere 2 days later? He was reading the book; Juliet shows him the film and they fight; then she changes the date/time of the meeting? That's a pretty lame way to get even with someone you think is lying.

Capcom said...

I thought that Carrie's mother was pretty damm depressing! :o)

Perhaps Ben could relate too much to the underdog-weirdo.

Capcom said...

I think that she was PO'd that he flat out refused her being able to leave.

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - you should definitely read it. Carrie's pretty good. Creepy.

capcom - I agree! I guess I meant, what did Ben specifically find depressing? Did he identify with Carrie? Was he tormented by a parent the way she was? Did he have trouble finding a date to the prom?

Melissa_Lossa said...

And you're right about the book club. When we saw that scene originally, I got the feeling that Ben didn't even know that they had chosen that book. But here we see that he not only knew, he had read most of it. (and regardless of what he said, he seemed pretty engrossed in it when Juliette knocked on the door)

memphish said...

I can't figure out Juliet's game. She's a cut-throat researcher who's able to do the impossible in Miami, but not replicate it in this "special" place. She sells out pretty quick to go this "special" place though. Then she can't leave and seems upset about it, but she agrees to all of Ben's evil schemes. Actually, I think at this point she's in the Losties camp doing Ben's bidding, but looking for any opportunity to overthrow Ben and achieve her ultimate goal of leaving. She's merely adaptable. So after the sub blows up she adapts with Ben's plan hoping it will allow her to develop one of her own.

Unknown said...

do you guys think that the reason ben had the tummer was because he was using information in a bad way to con or manipulate Juliet to stay longer

i am just trying to see why the island would turn on him. . .

I have to admit that i wanted to (and still do really) want to see juliet turn on ben. but i bet that he is holding on to 'finish the job you came to do thing' that has kept juliet on the island for 2 plus years extra than the six she originally signed up for.

Dennis said...

Catching up on comments now...

BTW, Herarat Aviation - HERARAT is an anagram for EARHART, as in Amelia Earhart!

memphish said...

I like it Andy. The Island turning on bad Ben works for me. And yeah, Ben claims not to be a liar, but what about the 6 months deal?

Melissa_Lossa said...

All right, ladies and gentlemen - I'm out for the night. I'll catch you all in the morning. Sweet dreams, everybody! :)

memphish said...

Don't forget the old lady in Tale of Two Cities was named Amelia. It's Hubby's pet theory that she's Amelia Earhart. I haven't seen a Fred Noonan yet though. I still like Her-A-Rat as in Juliet is a Rat though I'm starting to soften a little bit.

Melissa_Lossa said...

hey, dennis - enjoy Twin Peaks! I'm so jealous that you're getting Inland Empire soon. I can't wait to see it.

Good night!

Unknown said...

Hurley was unusually menacing in his little chat with Juliet.

(paraphrasing)

"Yeah, the last one of you that came over here....well, he's buried over there."

Might as well have thrown a "beeeotch" in at the end for good measure.

Did the crowd shots at the end (with Juliet looking around) intentionally focus on Sun, Jin and Desmond? If so, what do the Others want with/from Desmond?

Capcom said...

Right Melissa, or maybe Ben can relate to the entire Otherton High School making fun of him??? :o) "Hey bug-eyed-b*st*rd!!!!" ((I only said that cuz it was in the show, I wouldn't really call Michael E. that!))

I agree Memphish, I think that she's also still trying to play the game with whatever moves Ben makes, or cards that he plays. I think that he is a better poker player than her though.

Unknown said...

who do you guys think will be the one to tell juliet that sun is pregers?

i would like to see it be kate. a little post cuffed together trust plus a little i love jack and he says your okay so maybe you can help a friend. . .

Herarat. Very similar to Ararat, the fabled mountain where Noah's Ark was to have found land.

But the Earhart anagram is good, too.

I still don't know how or what the Others know about Desmond given what TPTB have been spouting on the OLP. I did notice that too TBP. I think that Desmond's flashes are related to a power Ben has. I think Ben isn't enslaved by time and space and Desmond's abilities are something that interests him like Locke's ability to walk.

I forgot to mention earlier that Ben invokes "Jacob" to Juliet at her 6 month in mark. I wonder if Juliet has met him. She seems awestruck when he says it.

Okay I will give it to you all for the information from them being drugged up when they first got there. I still think she doesn't know about Sun though and I say this because of that strange shot of Jin and a sock at the end of the episode. That was a foreshadow of her finding out and having to Course Correct... lol

Memphish glad it made you laugh, I was trying to get that response.

memphish said...

Why do you think she looked at Desmond Ded?

Joseph Finchum said...

I am thinking it was simply because they don't actually know who Desmond is. They know he was in the Swan ( iassume because of the Pearl.) but never actually got any info on him. So he is a wild card.

Also what was the name of the Other that was going to leave it? Price? I didn't hear it because I was busy congratulating myself on being right about this all being a plan of Ben's. Also the night into day thing is bothering me again. And why would Jack let her go by herself to retrieve it? He made Kate go with Sawyer to get the heroine back in ? This is way too trusting of him. Did they do something to him or does he have some little plan of his own?

memphish said...

Well, I'm going to leave it to the Mountain and Pacific Time Zoners. Night all. I think I'm definitely going to need to watch this one again. Not much happened, but we sure got told a lot. Not sure what to do with it all, but there was a lot.

Hello everyone!

What a good episode! I'm posting to mark my place for now... I can't wait to read what everyone has said so far!

memphish said...

I had one more thing. What was with the Promo department's "If I tell you everything they'll kill me" when in the episode she said "you'll kill me."

I didn't even bother to pay attention to the promos tonight which seemed to be multi-episodic, not next week related. ABC ticks me off.

Black Swan said...

Great Episode!!! I was so right about Juliet!! Ben and Juliet are both big huge liars!

Juliet will agree to anything Ben wants because of her sister. He is hanging it over her head that they can do anything they want to her sister and her nephew. Juliet's only love and loyalty is to Rachel and her baby.

I think Ben lied to Juliet when he told her that Rachel's cancer came back. He lied so that Juliet will not only feel that she owe's Rachel's life to them (Jacob cured her-yeah, right) but there's the underlying idea that they can take them out any time they want. They got her to the island with the threat of hurting her sister and they're keeping her there with the same threat.

Black Swan said...

I'm starting to wonder if there is a Jacob. Maybe it's a sham; something Ben made up as another part of the illusion that's keeping people there.

Amused2bHere said...

Hi all!

WOW. Oh WOW.

Memphish, I didn't see any promos that had Juliet say "they" would kill her, only ones with the "you". Maybe a mistake?

Yeah, right, Ben doesn't lie..."My name is Henry Gale from Kansas" There's One!

"We implanted a pacemaker in your heart..." There's another!

shall we make a list? Hmmmm?

An implant in Claire? Remotely activated? Ew and brrrr. Chilling thought.

This is getting juicier and juicier. Creepy Ethan was just the plumber after all (maybe he was under Juliet's house to eavesdrop on her and Goodwin...ew)

Somebody recently asked for more eye candy for the guys...I think you got your wish tonight with nekkid Juliet sitting in be with Goodwin.

ok, enuf for me. off to bed myself.
See ya'll in the mornin'!

i agree with ded. i think that desmond is the wild card for the others. The others were able to control mr crabs(i can't remember his character name right now) they recruted him to man the station and i believe that they kept him in the dark to everything else. their reason i don't know.

i guess they didn't want to watch him to closely cause he repaired desmond's boat. and thats a little odd to me too...

Dennis said...

Lots of answers in this episode:

• Juliet's sister had cancer
• Juliet was crying in "Tale of Two Cities" because Ben wouldn't let her go home
• Juliet was "dating" Goodwin, not Ben or Ethan

since desmond washed up
and if mr crabs was left alone to do his job (push numbers)

i would also speculate that desmond didn't enter the boating race under his name.
since it was mr widmore's race desmond wouldnt want to be blacklisted from racing.

so if the others did know that he washed up and tried to dig up info about him they would have a hard time doing so.

that would put the others at a disadvantage in facing Desmond. something that i don't think that ben would like at all.

k....haven't read any comments yet but here comes a long post.

Observations after watching the first time.

1. One of the best epi's in my opinion. Filled in a lot of gaps.

2. I was sooo right. Jules has been in on the con the entire season. I had that one long before last week.

3. Jack is the new Locke: So we lose Locke to the others, and Jack has to immediately be a sucker in a con. I thought doctors had to be smart!

4. We have finally received confirmation that you can come to and from the island if you're part of a "chosen group." Ethan apparantly was part of that group, and Dr. Alpert is still in it.

5. Cancer: If we are to believe Ben, the others have the cure for cancer but it is not the island. They apparantly cured Juliett's sister without ever bringing her to the island. The don't really fill that gap but they imply to have done offsite. How did Rose get cured?

6. More Cancer: Wow! So again if Ben is to believed he is the first person ever to have cancer on the island. Very interesting. Is this because he was born on the island and apparently women on the island can't conceive? We also know that Claire is not the first to ccnceive on the island. Rosseau did it before Jule's tenure. Again, if that story is true.

7: Mikhail was a hacker: The station definetly got up to date news, confirming that time can be in place on the island. The red sox tape is apparantly real. Is there a backup station or are the others truly hosed?

8. Jules conned Sawyer and a human lie detector (Sayid) in her and Ben's plot. Priceless!

9. What's with 1 weeks time. What is signifcant about the timeframe. The season finale?

10. Ben is good to his people, but evil with the Losties. If we are to believe him, Ben doesn't lie to his people and appears to be a good leader.

11. We have a new dock folks. I went back to the season 2 dvd's, and the Man from Talahasse, and the compared the dock we saw tonight to them. It is a different dock than the Palla Ferry dock, and different from the dock where Locke blew up the sub. Was this on island 3 perhaps?

All done....gonna read comments and rewatch.

I think the Others/Desmond interaction has promise because Desmond is (presuambly) the only living connection to DHARMA left on the Island. Seems like the Purge might very well have been something done by DHARMA as a last strike against the Hostiles. Kind of a scorched earth, "it'll hurt us but it'll hurt you more" kind of thing. Purge and Incident could very well prove to be the same thing.

Sadly, no, I'm only popping in briefly tonight. I'll try to come back tomorrow morning!

hey dig

your #10 has me thinking. . .
why be evil or really just plane ambivalent to them?
ben sees all the flight 815 people as test subjects to further the others desire to completely inhabit the island. he asks for lists in three days. if the island is the best place to be at the end of the world then you want to be able to have a thriving community and you can't do that if you can't have kids or recruit to replenish those dying off trying to have kids. you see that in some 1800s end of the world communes that died out do to dwindling membership.

also who remembers the biblical curse between Jacob and Esau?

Unknown said...

i asked about jacob and esau because it had something to do with the birthright i think. ..
it ties into the island birthing mystery maybe?

DiggityDirge said...

I see what you mean. I guess I should have directed it more to the perception of the others being good people, who are apparently quite evil to a group of crash survivors. I guess it all still goes back to the "what is good" question.

While watching a second time, something came to mind.

Assuming Juliett follows thru with the plan, the village power struggle will begin. Sawyer nd Sayid will turn on Jack once it is revealed that Juliett is a plant.

Black Swan said...

diggity said...

3. Jack is the new Locke:

interesting..

5. Cancer: If we are to believe Ben, the others have the cure for cancer but it is not the island.

Ben is obviously a liar; I don't think they have the cure for cancer off island or on island. Ben just needs people to think this is true.

He slipped when he said to Juliet, "You just told me I have cancer" and she says, "No, I told you you have a tumor". Tumors are not always cancerous, but he's assuming it's cancer, which is interesting since he told her no-one gets cancer on the island.

6. apparently women on the island can't conceive?

I think they can conceive, but not carry a full-term pregnancy; they end up dying while pregnant. Juliet was operating on a pregnant woman on the island who "knew the risk" of getting pregnant and died.

I have a hard time believing any of this, though, mostly because of Rousseau carrying Alex to term without dying. Unless something has changed in the last 16 years.. Could be something Dharma did, then, to make this happen.

8. Jules conned Sawyer and a human lie detector (Sayid) in her and Ben's plot. Priceless!

I'm not so sure they have been totally sucked in by Juliet, yet. I hope not!

10. Ben is good to his people, but evil with the Losties. If we are to believe him, Ben doesn't lie to his people and appears to be a good leader.

I think it's just an illusion that Ben is good to his people. He admitted he lies to them about the sub; that it gives them the illusion of being able to leave. He may say he doesn't lie, but he actually is just very careful in his wording and con-artist tactics.

Kelvin was Dharma - Desmond was just helping him out. I'm much more inclined to believe Rousseau was Dharma.

Juliettt told Ben on the beach that she beleives it happens at the time of concpetion, but cannot prove it because the only way would be to take a woman off the island.

It took me typing this out to figure out that Claire is very important to them. Ben said "maybe there's even one on that plane." Claire is more significant than just being used for an illusion.

Date on Newspaper shown in stream of Jule's sister. Sept 22nd 2004.

Does Ben always carry around his "purse" when he knows he might have to pull something out of it to con someone? :-) He had it with him when he pulled out the number 8 bunny for Sawyer and he had it again tonight to pull out the cancer records of Juliet's sister. Could this be Ben's magic bag?

Maybe, but it seems they'd treat her better, then. They have a chip in her to activate at their whim and Alex said Ethan was going to kill her and take the baby. I could see Ben using that line, "maybe there's even one (pregnant woman) on that plane" to make Juliet want to stay and not feel like she had to go to Miami.

On the other hand, Sun is screwed (Kate too?).

This question is about the island location: When Ethan and Richard gave Juliet the tranquilizer they checked her vital signs and said it was because the last leg of the journey was difficult and better to be unconscious during it. Was this a lie to get her to drink the juice (they had already told her that the location was a secret) or is it some kind of clue to the island location?

hey ded- I thought about that too, but (if we are to believe Ben-ha) he said that no woman on the island ever gave birth. Since he's been there all his life, then he surely would've known about Rousseau.
Also, someone brought up Karl. Wonder how Karl got there? Maybe he was the son of someone else who was brought there? did he crash land on the island somehow? hmmm

Scoutpost said...

I wonder why Ben needs Juliet to go to the Losties camp? We debated whether they know about Sun's pregnancy- do you think they could know and that is why he sent Juliet? Or maybe they suspect that by this time someone on the island is bound to be preggers? Actually, I'm really starting to think like Ange- maybe the whole con to kidnap J, K, and S was not just to get Jack to operate on Ben, but also to get another girl pregnant...and that person is Kate?!

Joseph Finchum said...

I agree Scout,
It's 2:00 am here and I can't stop... still thinking.

I'm pretty sure that Rousseau said that she was 7 months pregnant when they shipwrecked- I always thought that story was weird because what kind of 7 month pregnant woman goes on a scientifice research trip on a ship, etc. By that time in your pregnancy you're not supposed to be travelling. Of course Rousseau is not your avg. woman. But to answer your question Ded- yeah she said she was pregnant when she got there.

Joseph Finchum said...

Okay, that is what I thought, but thought I was confusing myself somehow.

Beverly said...

regarding Karl -- I was thinking that maybe he and Danielle are twins and Rousseau just doesn't know it because the Others knocked her out beofre Karl was born. That would explain why Ben doesn't want them to be together. But then, why lie about it? Why not just tell them the truyh? OK, maybe it wasn't such a good idea.

Scoutpost said...

re: the newspaper date-
yeah I wondered if that was some kind of response to the Expose questions. Like Ben (and TPTB)were saying "here, it says right here that the day the plane crashed was 9/22/04". LOL

Scoutpost said...

ok 1 more comment and then if no one responds then I'm off to bed...
but TPTB said that toward the middle of the season they would start dropping bombs every episode until the finale where a big bomb would go off- wow, in light of the past couple of episodes, I wonder what is ahead of us?!

maven said...

I don't know where to begin! LOL

Yeah, Rousseau said she was pregnant when they got there, and traveling while you're 6-7 months pregnant is crazy (of course she is!).

Why are the Others so concerned about fertility? Most of them are pretty young...very few seniors there (except for Amelia). Did some of the Others come to the island as teens? How old is Karl?

I always believed Juliette was a plant...the look she gave when they were heading back to the beach and Jack told Sayid and Kate that "she's under my protection" said "I've got him! It's working!"

Memphish and Dennis: Like your take on Herarat Aviation...Her-A-Rat and Amelia Earhart! Good catch either way!

Trust seems to be the theme here tonight: Juliette trusts Richard/Ethan/Mittelos because they tell her she's special. Jack trusts Juliette. Juliette's trust of Ben is tested. The Lostie's don't trust Juliette.

What a touching embrace between Sawyer and Kate! And of Aaron/Charlie/Claire.

Well, Jacob is mentioned again...Ben: "Jacob will take care of it himself" (in regards to Rachel).

Ben knows island can heal, but not him. He's definitely scared.

Loved "bug-eyed b*st*rd" and "we've cleared out schedule".

Patchy sure had the news feeds fast. How long did it take to get to the Flame station from Otherville?

It looks like Ben and the Others didn't plan on the plane crashing there. "Who knows...there might be a mother on that plane."

The look Juliette gives to Desmond at the end, makes me think the Others didn't know much about Desmond or else he's a enigma to them.

Looks like we only have a week to cover.

That's it for now...getting late even for me!

Brianne said...

do you guys think that the reason ben had the tumor was because he was using information in a bad way to con or manipulate Juliet to stay longer?

Maybe Juliet "gave him the Tumor!" and maybe she as really the one that had her ex-husband "hit by a bus!"

Didn't Amelia Earhart disappear over the Pacific Ocean? Maybe this island is where she landed/crashed?

what do the Others want with/from Desmond?

Do the Others even know about Desmond besides maybe watching him @ the Pearl? The only times he left the hatch was when he followed Kelvin to Desmonds sailboat and when he left the hatch and sailed around for 2 weeks, then back to the beach. Do they know that he is really shipwrecked on the island and not really Dharma?

Sometimes it is used for the planet Uranus.

Uranus (IPA: [ jʊˈɹeɪ.nəs, ˈjʊ.ɹə.nəs ], named after the Greek god of the sky (Uranus , Οὐρανός), is the seventh planet from the Sun. It is a gas giant, the third largest by diameter and fourth largest by mass. Its symbol is either (astrological) or (astronomical). The first symbol derives from the name of its discoverer, William Herschel. The second symbol is a combination of the devices for the Sun and Mars, as Uranus was the personification of heaven in Greek mythology, dominated by the light of the Sun and the power of Mars. It is also the alchemical symbol of platinum.

Morning LoCos!

It must have been a good episode because I've been awake since about 4:30 with things going around and around in my head.

Some questions for the am.

1. How did Ben explain Alex to Juliet? And what about Karl? We've discussed this a bit, but if Rousseau is telling the truth, Alex was born on the Island. (Tho we have to remember the Aaron is 1st claim is made by Juliet, not Ben, to Jack and Kate.) I like the ideas that the Incident occurred post-Alex and that it is causing the reproductive problem.

2. Is Jack really that stupid (the new Locke -- it makes me laugh) or has he learned something from Tom or some other Other and is "conning" Juilet? Friends close, enemies closer as people were suggesting pre-episode. I want to believe he's not that stupid, and the stuff he says to Kate at the very beginning about keeping his head down does not sound like the Jack Shephard we've seen for the last 2+ years. He told Kate the kids were safe. How does he know that? I'm guessing Jack knows more than he acts like he does and I think his read of Juliet wanting off the Island is correct. His conclusion that she's "one of us" to achieve that end is shaky, but if Juliet can leave with the Losties, she'll throw Ben over in a minute. Of that, I'm sure.

3. The Island and its specialness. The Island can cure paralysis and Rose's cancer but it can't sustain life in utero and in fact Juliet's treatment not only results in the loss of the infant, but the mother too. That's some strange Island. Someone posted a link between electromagnetics and the effects on wombs after Not in Portland. I guess that's at least partially what's going on, though the details seem murky to me. Juliet's sister's problem seemed to be one of conception. The island problem seems to be post-conception.

4. How did they know Sawyer killed the guy in Austalia "in cold blood?" Again Kate and Sawyer have something in common, blondes accusing them, correctly, of cold-blooded murder. Is telepathy of some sort still in play? If so that could be how they know about Sun's pregnancy as well.

I'll stop for now. I'll be in and out this morning and here for the long haul most of the afternoon.

ib4uc said...

I have to say "Wow, what an episode!"

Going now to catch up.

ded and scoutpost, maven, memphish: According to Lostpedia:

Rousseau claims that either around the same time or shortly after, she delivered her baby which she named Alexandra alone. She says that she was together with the baby for a week before she saw a pillar of black smoke about five kilometers inland and on that night, her child was taken from her. She says the baby was taken by the Others but she also has said that she had never seen one of them at that time and only knew them as whispers.

Since Alex was taken by the others, could her blood or DNA have been used at some point in Juliet's research (although unsuccessful), since she was carried to term without issue. Anyway, that's it for now...oh and it is SNOWING in April!

memphish said...

Another thing, Alex helped Claire escape and it was her voice on the intercom when Jack found the video of the bear cages. Does Ben use Alex in his plans when he doesn't want the rest of the Others to know?

Unknown said...

Dennis - Desmond's closer to DHARMA as anyone else on the Island. I can't decide if the Others kept an eye on the Swan, or if they didn't know to look there until the plane crashed. He's the only one who was in the Swan and actually knew even a little bit about it.

Plus, they might or might not know he's the one who flipped the switch. If they know he was stationed in the Swan, even by conscription and not choice, they might be assuming that he'd be the only one to know about the failsafe.
