A return to the sandy beaches of the fuselage crash site promises to reveal more insights into Hurley's past and guarantees that a good time will be had by all who take in tonight's episode!

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 326 of 326Hey belly. Good to see you -- hopefully you'll visit more often?
Hey Belly! glad you still pop in from time to time, but wish you were here more!
I was just looking at the Easter Egg pics on Dark UFO's blog and noticed that there is a picture of a couple of papers that was found in the VW van last night. On the papers (which are pretty much illegible) there is some kind of logo. It's a stretch, but the logo on the papers looks a little like the brand on Juliet's back. Wonder if that is something significant?
dennis... thanks for the link to E! Online. That explains a few things we all had questions about -- so that's what happened to Kate's wrists.
And they actually said we (the diehard fans & viewers) have caught every easter egg, with the exception of 1 very minor one.
Thanks for the video link TBM and Dennis. Kate's wrists have been driving me crazy, and now I know what happened.
memphish... all of the theorizing we have done about her wrists have all come down to the most logical reason :)
Great episode last night. Someone wrote it was like a season one episode, and I think that's an awesome way to look at it. It was a simpler time back then. The story's gotten so layered and complex, and we fans are so invested in over-analyzing everything, we needed—as Hurley told Charlie—to have some "fun." Leave it to Hurley to give us a break from the hustle and bustle of Others and Monsters and Time Travel and Monolithic Pseudo-benevolent Scientific Institutions.
By the way, loved the Office/Heroes mashup. 'Tis good to laugh.
Who is the Atomic Blowtorch?
ib4uc, you are right. So far in Season 3 the simplest explanations have been the right ones. That is not to say that they are the fun ones though. I still prefer the x-ray is Jack's speculation.
Check out this movie poster for last night's episode.

This Changes everything!
TBM, I'm sure you've looked at this and I have not rewatched yet, and as there is fierce Shrek racing occuring on my TV right now, I can't check it now, all of which is to say -- do we know it's morning when Hurley is at Libby's grave? Could it not be the previous evening?
memphish, I thought about that after I posted. But after reconsidering, I dont think it really matters the time of day, of the Hurley Libby grave site.
The reason being is, the sun's position in the following frames show Charlie on the beach, the same day as Sawyer has his evening beer.
I do think though, the "Hurley at Libby's grave" scene was the morning of the whole episode.
The sun positioning through out the whole series has bothered me for a long time, I would like to have a resolution to this. Mainly to help determine where in the heck, the Losties are located :)
They are on the north shore of Oahu TBM. As hard as it is to get 23 episodes in the can, I'm sure that where the sun is is the least of TPTB's worries. They could at least flip those frames for us obsessives though couldn't they?
Here's the CSI:NY thing last night......Criss Angel was on and a murder revolved around one of his tricks I guess. They showed the swinging-sawing-Criss-in-half stunt on the preview. That's pretty impressive, so it probably lured in people who have not already seen it on his show on A&E. I was tempted.............but I stayed by the VCR and taped Lost.
Hey! I'm old, and I watch CSI (the original), AND Lost, AND Heroes, AND Criss Angel (he is soooooooo adorable)! :o)
I am hoping as more folks get wind of this possibility, that either it can be explained, dismissed or truely verified.
More eyeballs and brains to examine this will be helpful.
But tonight, I am ready for bed, and must tuck Lost away, while I visit the other dream land. LOL
I will be back tomorrow.
"I Love this show:)"
Whoa, that Workman site is weird, in light of the ep. :-O
P.S. I think that the Hurley episodes are the most likely episodes to watch on a date, or with that special someone, don'tcha think?
Night TBM. I'm off to put little one to bed then finally watch Monday night's 24 with hubby.
Capcom, Hurley episodes would be up there in the date category along with SOS (Rose and Bernard.) The Sun and Jin ones would be kind of like taking your date to Fatal Attraction which I saw on a date with hubby when we were just dating. LOL.
Hope to "see" most of you tomorrow.
The Atomic Blowtorch blog person feels that Kate still likes Jack more: “Date the cons, marry the doctor.” Which is sometimes true -- but stupid girls still go for the wild guys -- and I think that probably is the case here with Kate. Anyway, that's how Jean Grey put it to Wolverine too. >:-)
Hi all! Well, there was, overall, no revelations. But it was still a very entertaining epi.
And the end!!! I called my sister and said "eu-F**kin-reka! Finally! Somebody DID make the connection!
Wow Costa....I completely forgot about the glass eye in the flame hatch!!! I can't wait for next week and all that Patchy stuff!!
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Did you get to watch the ep Chucklez?????? I hope that your cable is hooked up by now.
(BTW, above, I meant that I think that it is the case that Kate at the very least thinks that she wants the Dr., not the Con)
The DarkUFO article is good. Soooooo, does the writer basically think that The Island is like that vacation island that the original Star Trek gang went to where they saw White Rabbits, Black Knights, tigers, and dive bombers?
Capcom
Yeah Shore Leave. I thought of that in the first season. Kinda reminds you of that doesn't it?
That's the title Sayidsgirl, thanks. Oops, I guess I meant to say "vacation PLANET". Oh well, at least you knew what I meant.
Oh yeah I knew what you meant. I have all of the original series and most of the others although I never did get to into Deep Space Nine. That was a busy time in my life didn't get a chance to see much of it.
OT, but do/did you like the last Trek show, Enterprise? I really liked it and was sad that it ended so soon.
Yeah I did like it. It's a shame they really didn't give it a chance.
How comes Roger wasn't in a special suit, ala Kelvin???
Hi IEAL, many of us have guessed the Roger dates back to pre-Incident and that they either didn't need or didn't know they needed protection from the sickness prior to that time.
I also believe it has only been The Swan and The Arrow that had quarrantine marked inside them. I don't remember seeing that at the Pearl or the Staff, and the Pearl video instructed people to leave the Pearl every 3 weeks and didn't mention suiting up either.
Good question though. Maybe DIHG beer has special properties that protect you.
There's a video recap of TTID from the AP. It includes a funny bit from Jorge about Vincent and the arm and analysis by a TV Guide guy of the ratings. The only "spoilers" are for TTID which hey AP lady, once it has aired, it's not spoilers.
The new J. Wood post is up. Much like TTID, it is relatively light. One thing J. Wood says though is bothering me. He says Hurley won the lottery in 1990. Has anyone else heard that? It seems to me the only basis he has for that is the song Shambala being out in 1973, but hey, I'm pretty sure there is an oldies station in LA. Is that at least true Maven? If the flashback took place in 1973, that would make Hurley almost in 2004. That just doesn't work for me. Anyone else?
Despite the coffee, my fingers and brain are running at different speeds: I meant to type that if the little dude flashback is in 1973 that would make Hurley almost 40 in 2004 and that doesn't work for me.
Where are all the LoCos this Friday morning?
Hmmm.... I agree, memphish. I got the impression that Hurley won the lottery probably only a year or two before the crash.
Plus, Jorge Garcia's only 34 in real life - I doubt that he'd be 40 on the show.
The Cheech flashback must have been in 2004, because at the end of the flashback, Hugo left for Australia and never came back.
Hurley's dad left 17 years earlier, so that would make it 1987.
If we round Hurley's TV age down to 29, he would have been 12 in 1987.
The actor that played young Hurley (Caden Waidyatilleka) is 12 in real life.
I agree Melissa and Dennis. It gives me a feeling of warm smugness to up an official LOST author.
Good morning LoCo! Memphish, you crack me up....your post wondering where everyone is posted at 6:21 am my time! Unfortunately, the annoying tree frog alarm hadn't gone off at my house.
Dennis, I think for the next podcast we should all submit how we think young Hurley actor's name is pronounced. It looks suspiciously like a word verification to me.
Good Morning Loco, and a tremendous Friday to you-
What is up memphish? I see you are in usual form this am, thanks for the links, I can always count on you to keep me up to snuff on Lost.
Also, I was catching up with the posts last night and you were dishing out Lost facts like it was nobody's business, but then again why should I be surprised, you are quite the Lostie.
Yeah, the Cheech flashback had me wondering to, hmmmm. A timeline snafu from TPTB? I'm sure Carlton and Damon could fill us in. A good question to ask for the official Lost podcast this week.
dennis, any news on Day Break??? I'm patiently waiting to see the series finale.
FYSB, when you get up weekdays before 6 am CST, 6:21 PST is late. LOL.
I hope Daybreak gets posted today for all you Daybreak-ies. I hope they'll leave it up on ABC.com for a while too. I'm going to need something to watch most of March as it is high re-run season except of course for LOST (and 24 which is annoying me beyond belief, but that's a different story for a different board.)
Like Det. Brett Hopper in Daybreak, I am living the same day over and over again. The day is not the same, but the same things happen. Everyday I wake up and check to see if there is a new Daybreak episode on ABC.com, but it isn't there yet. :(
The ABC site hasn't changed, and there's no new word on the street.
Has anyone seen commercials for that new movie "Premonition" with Sandra Bullock? It looks like a Daybreak rip-off.
What is up with ABC.com? Not only is Daybreak delayed, but on the main LOST page, under the featured video it says, and I quote:
"LOST, all new, Thursday at 10/9C"
In addition on the Photos page it has no photos for SIASL, and lists TTID as episode #9 of Season 3. I guess it's the non-LOST watching promo department who's in charge of the website.
Dennis,
I'd like to see Premonition. I don't know if I would think of it as a Daybreak rip-off though... From the preview it seems like she is living in two times. One day her husband is dead and the next he isn't dead. Hopper wakes up to Garza(spelling?) being dead... everyday.
Dennis - Off Topic, but - I'm a Netflix user too. :)
According to the Premonition website, it looks like she is "living the days of her life out of order". Her husband dies on Wednesday, but it will be Tuesday one day, then Friday, then Monday.
I'll probably see it too.
I tried to download Nurse Betty, but it is too old and/or not popular enough.
dennis - thanks for looking that up. I was just basing my idea from the trailer and was obviously way off.
memphish... I don't know what's up with the ABC site either. I used to look at the Lost stuff often but it seems it's gone to he11 since season 3 started.
dennis... you don't check TLC 1st thing in the morning? :)
Oooh Dennis. ib4uc is calling you out!
Yeah, Memphish, there is an oldies station in LA, KEarth 101!
Dennis: Good breakdown on when Hurley's f/b took place! Thanks.
In LA Times this morning there was an article title: "'Lost' appears to be heading nowhere" basically complaining that the last episode was a filler and didn't advance the plot lines at all. I, for one, enjoyed the break!
Maven said: I, for one, enjoyed the break! Amen sister!
I second that emotion maven - that episode was just what the doc ordered. We finally got to have some fun with Lost in S3. I want some DIGH beers!
Well, I guess we could analyze all the Sawyerisms! LOL
Maybe I should have said overanalyze!
(BTW: Have you guys been have trouble getting WV sometimes when you post?)
maven... blogger seems very unpredictable these days. I find myself hitting F5 more than I did in the days of TLE because the wv doesn't come up.
Of course, I might have over-exaggerated the whole F5 thing above. I think everyone must have worn off the writing on their F5 key during TLE.
Yes Maven. Write now I have no WV. I wonder how many times it will take to get one.
As for poor Sawyer and his -isms. His sad little story of mono and only one TV channel reminds me of the time I spent as a newly wed dependant spouse on Okinawa. We only had one channel too, but we didn't get Little House. Instead we got 4 months old Guiding Light.
Maven, how's the HD? I think we're going to be upgrading to HD next week. The old TV which I bought in West LA is starting to give way (much like other things in my life which we will not list here for the sake of decency.)
I can't believe I wrote "write now." Good grief!
memphish, I just wanted to say... what is UP with 24 this season? I don't think it's up to par so far, do you?
Warning, if you don't watch or care about 24, don't read the rest of this post.
Melissa, I haven't watched 24 since Season 2 and I didn't even watch that one after the bomb went off. Once it was clear the Jack's daughter wasn't going to blow up, I wasn't interested.
This year though with all the hype and the 4 hours in 2 days with no LOST on the air, hubby and I both agreed to give it a try. It was going to be the one show we bonded over. Last night it was the show I griped about while he fell asleep in the chair. You want to talk about failing to move the plot forward. Gripe about that LA Times.
The other thing about 24 is that I don't sympathize with any of the characters. Unlike our Losties who I care about more than many real people I know, I find myself completely unconcerned with the fate of Bearded Terrorist, Palmer 2.0, The Biscuit and pretty much everyone else on 24. The best thing to me about 24 is the funny reviews like on Dave Barry, Magic Lamp and The Bauer.
Oops, the bomb didn't go off in Season 2. I forgot.
Hi LoCos,
Cheez-wizz, I wish that these media jerkazoids would quit harping and whining about Lost. ABC is going to listen to them more than they listen to us true Lost geeks and cancel the show. Dangitt. Maybe that's why ABC has lost interest in keeping the Lost webpage current and interesting -- they don't care anymore, because they think that they are losing fans anyway. Hopefully, the ABC webpage interns are just on a Spring break or something and will return to get it back on the ball soon. :-p
And what's wrong with a funny Hurley episode?! Isn't that what the media reviewers were complaining about? "It's not like season 1 anymore, waaaaaaaaa!". Blimey!
I thought that we got a lot of mythology snippets this week. We got a bus and a skeletor, and a map, and a connection between Alex and Danielle, halleluia!!! And we got some more of Hurley's life mysteries and stories. Well, I liked it......there was no Bai Ling. :o)
That boy who played young Hurley was so adorable. Heh-heh his name does look like a WV.
I am very much enjoying those J.Woods summaries, thanks again for posting the link!
memphish - I would recommend checking out last season of 24 (season 5). That was by far the best season in my opinion, which is making this year even harder to take. Last year, I cried several times and actually yelled "holy sh*t!" at the TV at least once. This year has been a real drag so far.
Jack just seems to be wandering around and my girl Chloe needs to get on the ball!
You're right though, reading the Dave Barry and Magic Lamp summaries crack me up.
Somebody here at work just asked me an interesting question that I don't remember hearing before, about FBYE:
When Desmond wakes up from his vision and is lying in the jungle, he sees a bunch of stuff from the hatch scattered about the jungle. Was there any objects lying around that didn't come from the hatch? (ie. that followed him back from his "time travel" ... like a cricket bat!)
I said no, but I double checked the video just to be sure and I didn't miss anything (although I had a hard time finding a picture of the dart board in the swan.)
capcom said... I wish that these media jerkazoids would quit harping and whining about Lost. ABC is going to listen to them more than they listen to us true Lost geeks and cancel the show.
Well the ratings are up this week, so they can't complain about that. You can't please everybody all the time.
BTW, here the link to the LA Times Story.
its simple. Media like something to pick at couple of years ago (and to some degree still is) it was McDonalds.
In the UK its TESCO atm (big supermarket chain that they say is getting to big and destroying its competetors -THATS JUST BUSINESS) and now its LOST. it'll go away and it will be something else
Dennis, My clearest memory of the darts in the Hatch are from LTDA when they start flying towards the magnet. Maybe you can find something there.
I was kind of hoping the darts were from the pub, but the LoCos quickly reminded me that they were part of the Hatch.
I still wish they would explain to us what happened with the Hatch. Why is there that giant sucked in hole, but the people and darts and exercise bike and photo were expelled? And what happened to Charlie to make him all weird at the end of LTDA? Just wondering.
I was reflecting that a gripe I have with Season 3 at this point is that there are still several big loose ends left from LTDA. In Season 2, what was in the Hatch and what happened to the raft (tho. in all fairness, not to Walt) was explained pretty quickly. Even after 8 Falcatraz episodes I still don't get why The Others took J,K and S or at least why they waited until 65 days after Flight 815 crashed to take them.
That has always bothered me as well - Charlie was REALLY weird after the hatch explosion. I wonder if there is more to that, and if it ties in with his ultimate destiny.
memphish, I highly recommend HD (1080i), the picture is night and day from regular tv (480i). I also would recommend a sony HDTV. I have an Sony KD-34XBR960 which is a wide screen tube tv. It's the largest XBR (professional series) tube tv that Sony makes. The picture is incredible and was better than any plasma or lcd flat panel that I saw, but it does have a huge foot print and is very heavy. I know it's not quite as big as maven, but it rocks.
As for the 24 talk. I will agree this season is not as good as season 5, but I thought last weeks episode was good. Hey palmer 2.0 almost buys it and Jack is now having to work w/ the X-prez from last year. I do hope they pick the pace up thought, the previous two episodes were slow. The one character that I like, is the Chloe's ex-husband, Morris. He is probably the funniest character on 24. I'm not quite sure what to make of Nadia, I think she is suspect at best. Yeah, not the greatest start to 24, but I think last week picked up the pace.
Thanks Dennis and Picsel. I just hope that Lost lasts longer than the juvenile media grudge can.
So TESCO is the UK version of Walmart? Interesting. :o)
BTW, the newest Lost magazine is very interesting. No secrets given away of course, but lots of pre-production art, prop talk, and good articles on Dez, Charlie, and Jate. Oh and, sorry to all the "Smokey-didn't-kill-Mr.Eko-fans, but there are pre-productioon drawings for that as well, with descriptive captions. This issue is $9.99, more than the other issues, but I figure in about 10 years, in mint condition, it will be worth about.......$9.99. :o)
Dennis and other Daybreak fans, Here's what Whitney from PopCandy knows:
Have you heard what's going on over at ABC and the Day Break finale? First the Day Break page indicated that it was supposed to premier on Feb. 27, which was changed to Feb. 28, and that came and went, and now it's the ubiquitous "premiering this week." -- Scott F.
This is by far the most popular question I've received this week, and I've got the official answer: "It was a technical problem with the tape that was delivered," an ABC spokeswoman tells me via e-mail. "It should be resolved in a day or two and the finale will be up ASAP." Stay tuned ...
Sorry it's no more definitive.
First WV=fuunq
Second WV is missing.
Third WV is missing. (And thanks for the info jgz350.)
Memphish, I did find a picture of the dart board (at LostHatch), it was just hard to find:
Dart board in the Swan
Dart board in the jungle
I thought Charlie was acting weird because he blew out his eardrums when Eko tried to open the door with dynamite.
I agree about your S2 Qs Memphish, I've been wondering about that too, that is, why no last-season followup at the beginning of S3, like there was in S2. I think that considering the plan to make S3 a two-parter (whatever they want to call it, season 2.5 or pre-3) as good writers they could have thrown us some S2 wrap-up bones for The Break.
As for Charlie, I too would like to know why he acted so nonchalant immediately after the blast. My guess is that either he was knocked looney for a while, OR (my personal I-hope-not-theory) he is so arrogant and self-centric that he really didn't give a crud what happened to Locke and Eko, as long as he was back in good graces with Claire and Turniphead. :-(
AS for the implosing Swan, didn't someone (Engineer?) 'splain that the sucking in of the implosion forces some mass inward, that the air and other mass will be expelled outward? Something like that.
Dennis said: I thought Charlie was acting weird because he blew out his eardrums when Eko tried to open the door with dynamite. That could be, but why would that make you unconcerned about Locke, Desmond and Eko when you returned to the beach? Charlie was still in the Hatch when everything started flying, and yet he didn't stay around to help once the purple sky ended or whatever?
Hey, maybe Charlie is the Smoke Monster and is messing with Desmond's head that way. JK. I still think Vincent is the Smoke Monster.
Capcom, I had forgotten about that explanation, but wouldn't that mean that the entire jungle should be littered with debris, not the just the random item here and there?
Ummmmmmmmm, suspension of disbelief???? Hahahaha.
P.S. Sorry about the previous typos and grammer goofs.
JGZ350 said...I highly recommend HD (1080i), the picture is night and day from regular tv (480i).
FWIW, I believe Lost is broadcast in 720p HD. I have downloaded a few of the 720p bit torrents and the quality is amazing, although the file sizes are huge - over 1GB.
Office fans be sure to check out this Lost in the Office video.
Oh, and capcom, consider my disbelief suspended. :o)
memphish said...I still think Vincent is the Smoke Monster.
That's an interesting theory. Didn't Walt have Vincent/Smokey when he lived in Australia? Maybe Walt brought the Smoke Monster to the island in the form of Vincent.
dennis - I think part of it was the hearing thing, but I think at one point Claire asked him what happened and he just smiled and said "what are you talking about?" or something to that affect. And he had that weird smile.
jgz350 - I do like Morris. I cracked up this week when Chloe asked if he'd been drinking, and he said "I just had a couple of beers, love. I didn't think anyone would mind."
I also say, "drilled in the arm with a power drill? go ahead and have that drink!"
I think this season has potential, and I should know not to judge too soon with 24, but there have been some really slow episodes.
More good stuff from Office Tally, first this picture for LOST and this one for Heroes.
Dennis, re Vincent being the Smoke Monster. I just think Vincent died in the crash and the Smoke Monster has been borrowing his body like Yemi and Christian Shephard. There are holes in the theory, but for the most part when we've seen the Monster or what we now think were manifestations of the Monster, we didn't know where Vincent was. One big exception would be the boar hunting trip when Locke first encounters the Monster. Another would be the encounter on the trip to the Black Rock.
Melissa_lossa - yes, some very slow 24 episodes.
Dennis - Do you know where I can find information on Torrents? I am a clean slate - knowing nothing about them. please email me: split_500@hotmail.com
Memphish - great pictures. Thanks for sharing!
P.S. I'm going hd next week and I'm so excited!
jgz350 said...I know it's not quite as big as maven, but it rocks.
fysb snickers
I know it was just a typo, but it's still funny.
Congratulations cattygirl, welcome to the HDTV club. There is only one down side though. You won't want to watch any TV shows at family or friends housed that don't have HDTV. Whenever someone asks if I want to watch whatever at their house, I always confirm that they have HDTV and if they don't, I make up a good excuse to why I can't make it. Another words, HDTV spoils you big time.
fysb, sorry about the typo, you have an eye for detail. I try to preview my comments, but every now and then I throw caution to the wind and just publish my comments. Especially with the way the blogger been acting lately. It just doesn't want to play nice.
This is what my post should have looked like:
I know it's (my HDTV) not quite as
big as Maven's (HDTV)but it rocks.
Yeah fysb, it does sound pretty funnie.
No worries, jgz350, I needed the chuckle.
I want an HDTV the size of Hurley. Or Eko. Maven-size would just be too tiny.
So you're an HD snob now jgz350? Hopefully, by tomorrow afternoon I'll be in that club too. Can't wait for LOST and then March Madness in HD.
Gee, that doesn't sound like me memphish. Me? Hardly a HDTV snob, I'm just a hopeless Lostie- :-)
Let me know when you get your HDTV memphish, so I can have a DIHG beer(s) for you joining the HDTV club.
jgz350, Should be tomorrow pm. Get 'em iced down.
I'm sure I'll pop in once or twice this weekend, but until then have a great weekend everyone!
Will do memphish, I'll also pop in for a cameo or two myself.
Have a fantastic weekend Locos
I'm out-
Hey all. Fenris here (whatever this new log in thing that I can't seem to change says) Just checking in.
I enjoyed this episode. I know a lot of people will say it didn't move the plot on much, but it was about time we had a real character driven episode and as one of those it was really good. As well as having some Hurley time it was good to see Sawyer interacting with people other then Kate and the Others and also good to touch base with Jin and Sun and see Charlie not acting like a jerk. So all good.
Okay so one downer on the episode. I'm a little disapointed that they felt they had to justify Hurleys weight by giving him abandonment issues. Can't a guy just like eating?
Other then that and the way the Russo bit was kinda predictable I can't grumble.
I noticed the Lostpedia folks are struggling for theories. Lol. I think clutching at straws is probably most accurate. Yet I noticed no one commented on the fact that the song that was playing on the tape in the car was the exact same song as in Hurleys flashback. Bit of a co-incidence.
Now, if Hurley had started the car up, heard the song and then thought back to the time with his dad that would have made sense. But this is like a backwards de ja vous or a pre-emptive de ja vous. Of course it could just have been a co-incidence. But I don't buy it.
We already have Des tapping into the future, but maybe there is a latent amount of that with all the Losties. I've always felt there was more to the flashbacks happening in episodes that are somehow relevent to their experiences in those flashbacks then just it being a good storytelling device.
Okay so as for Roger. Well they were building a dirt road and transporting a lot of beer. For some reason no one checked up on the missing janitor guy. But then it's not as if the DI had a lot of inter-comunication between the various factions, plus it could have been dangerous out there and the guy felt the beer was worth the risk (it's not like our losties haven't risk their lives for a bit of fun and hope...like in this episode for instance). But anyway, dirt road + car = will someone take the car to go see where the dirt road leads to?
Oh yeah here's something else. Kate and Sawyer didn't even seem to notice that the Swan station had turned into a crater. They found the dart blatantly from it but you'd think they'd at least notice. Hopefully they'll write that into the next episode maybe. Although having said that Kate seemed pretty unmoved about Eko being dead. Maybe they just decided to skip all the catch up stuff.
Anyway we've still got a fair while to go in this season and this episode was almost a closing point for the current story arc. Hence it being character driven. It almost feels to me like this was the conclusion to the mini-season that was meant to be just the 6 episodes. So from next week we should see a lot of new things starting up.
Hahaha...very funny everyone!
I've definitely become an HD snob! LOL We went with DLP 73" (1080P). All the plasmas and lcd's didn't come close to that size in 1080P and they were twice as much! (We have a very large room and wanted a humongous one! Once you've gone HD, there's no looking back. There's not much in HD right now, but Direct TV has promised 150 more channels by the end of the year.
capcom said "I have downloaded a few of the 720p bit torrents and the quality is amazing, although the file sizes are huge - over 1GB."
yep, amazing pic quality, though hard to cap at 1 sec intervals, but the level of detail is fantastic!
I didn't say that! I don't even know what bit torrents are! :o) You gave me much more intelligence credit than I deserve TBM........thanks mucho ;-D
Good points Mr.Fenris, as usual. I liked the ep too, for the same reasons. We got some of the old crowd hanging out again too. And that's what I was thinking about the van/road also.....why aren't they checking out whatever is left of the road that the van was traveling on? And to where it's going?! Surely there would have been some remnants of the beaten path left under the overgrowth.
Concerning Hurley's eating, I think that TPTB have been showing all along that Hurley has guilt issues that make him not like himself too much, which causes him to eat too much sometimes. That's about the only ingrained "fault" that we have seen Hurley to have, so far. But I see what you are saying. :o) Maybe the eating problem was meant to be an eating-for-comfort thing, or eating-for-spite? But like he always says...."I like chicken."
Howdy all! I know this isn't the proper place to post Heroes questions, but I'm gonna anyway. :-D
I just watched the episode from last Monday. The scene where Sulu handed over baby Claire to HRG really bugged me. According to the Heroes timeline wasn't Claire supposed to be 18 months old when she was adopted by HRG? That baby looked 6 to 9 months. Come on! It's just as bad as when they use a 6 month old baby as a newborn on TV. But I expected more attention to detail from Heroes.
As for Lost, I'm two episodes behind - on purpose. I'm so tired of pulling my hair out at the end of each episode because I want more. I've got two on tape and am looking forward to a Lost Bonanza night!
Fenris
Also did you notice that it was an 8 track tape in the deck of the VW bus.
Also I heard on the news a few days ago that bit torent was going legit like napster did and were going to start charging for the sevice. I don't know that much about bit torent or how many sites there are so this may not affect you that use it.
Hi Capcom. Thanks for the comments.
Your right about Hurley and his guilt issues. I actually wonder if the chocolate bar thing is actually a bit of a red herring (that would almost make it a fish biscuit I guess). It's inclusion was a bit like them spoon feeding us the knowledge that Hurley has his issues, including comfort eating, due to his Dad disapearing on him when he was younger. That is all a bit too easy if you ask me. I can't help but suspect there is something far more significant in Hurleys past that they just aren't prepared to show us for the time being and this is meant to throw us off the scent a bit.
I guess a group of Losties will head off to try and rescue Jack. That leaves the remaining people without much of a purpose other then hanging out and talking. This dirt path perhaps is what they will end up involved with. My main suspicion at the moment is the path will lead to eyepatch dude and his Dharma station.
I just couldn't stay away. Great post Fenris. I liked how at the end of TTID Hurley is left in the VW alone. Maybe he's replaying Shambala and reliving dad moments. It's a sweet picture. Check out the What I Noticed post on DarkUFO's front page and those theories about how the island is taking ideas from the Losties and using them. Maybe that would explain the 3 Dog Night 8-track. I haven't heard if anyone has tried to compare what we saw in the episode to an actual 8-track. After the big CD goof in Tale of Two Cities, I'm betting there's not enough to go on.
I also had an idea about the map. Wouldn't it be funny if after Kate, Locke and Sayid trek across the jungle day and night, pull whatever they are going to be up to in the next episodes and secure the station to have Hurley, Charlie and Vincent cruise up in the VW with a nice beer buzz? Locke would be all "how did you find us?" And Hurley would say, "Map dude."
Capcom mentioned Hurley's "I like chicken line." It made me remembere that Hurley used that in Dave too when the doctor asked him to make a list of things he liked about himself. Then when the doc called him on it he said "I like that I like chicken."
Twinkle, way to go with the minor Heroes bash. It bugs me how much people are saying Heroes is so great; get a clue LOST. I agree that Heroes is good, and the last 2 episodes have been great, but it doesn't make me think (and type) the way LOST does. And little errors like the baby are good things to point out to get a perspective on the fact that hey we're just making television here and we're people that make occasional mistakes too. Have fun with your mini-LOST marathon when you get around to it.
Yay, it's actually using my blogger account again.
Sayid'sgirl - I would have to admit, despite being a music nerd I didn't notice it was an 8 track tape.
Bit Torrent is a file transfer protocol. Although there is the basic bit torrent client. I don't think anyone actually uses it, so it's not like an actual p2p program. it can't charge people. There are many programs that utilise bit torrent transfers, uTorrent and Azereus being the main ones, but they couldn't really go "legit" because of the way torrents work. The programs themselves don't store or list any torrents themselves. They just allow the transfers. You have to go to websites for those like Piratebay or ISOhunt. Now those websites could go legit, but then people would move to some of the thousands of other sites.
So no, there is nothing in that. Since Bit Torrent started up many many sites and clients have shut down but the torrents themselves have only grown and grown. The names change and that is all.
Also I just want to add, because I'm a total p2p nerd and all, that Napster never actually went legit. What actually happened was when they closed down napster the RIAA took control of the nape and loga and all that and then they rebranded there already active legal music download software (can't remember what it was called) with the Napster name. It's actually completely different to what Napster was. It's just the name.
Which could be where you've seen the bit torrent info. A lot of the websites that store the .torrent files get closed down and some of those end up having to part with the domain names which then can get recycled for already existing websites that just rebrand themselves. So you go to a website called www.illegaldownloadtorrentsforfree.com and find out you have to pay and then all you get is a T-Shirt with a picture of a bald Britney Spears on it and a couple of litres of Sprite.
Okay I may have made the specifics up there, but it's not far from the kind of thing you see. Lol.
Okay turning off my p2p nerd circuits now.
Lol Memphis. I forgot about the "I like that I like chicken" bit. :)
I must check DarkUFO more often. Everyone seems to be raving about it these days.
You know, you could be right on about the map. That would actually be hilarious. I can just imagine Hurley driving around with Jin, Charlie and Des in the back throwing cans of beer at the Others in a giant rescue attempt. ROFLMAO.
fenris
wow ;)
Like I said I know nothing about bit torrent and maybe I misunderstood the news, all I know is they said bit torrent and compared it to Napster and that there would be fees. Maybe the reporter needs to research their story better.
Thanks for the info.
slyck.com is great source of all info on almost every P2P file sharing method.
(sorry capcom bout that earlier posting :)
BTW, it's so great to see you guys and gals again! :-) The map idea is indeed a gem.
And Fenris, don't you mean LSHNEMB?
As for Heroes, it's the things you love that can let you down. I was just surprised that no one mentioned the Claire baby age continuity error in the episode's commentaries that I read. I might be wrong about it being an error though.
Ohh I just thought of something while watching older episodes.
Okay so those extra "Others" that had "come to watch"...what if that was something to do with why Kate and Sawyer were hauling rocks about. What if *that* was something to do with this "Archeolgical" theme that we were meant to be having this season.
Considering all the religious stuff in the brainwashing room. The fact that Cindy has almost certainly been brainwashed there. If it is supposed to be something religous and ancient being uncovered. Maybe that was what they were there to watch.
You're right Fenris, now that you mention it, the whole eating disorder message was really too obvious. There may be something else afoot.
And yes, you should check out DarkUFO regularly, it's a very creative site, especially visually.
I was talking to my niece tonight about the last ep, and Kate going back for Jack.....she realized that Jack might not even be there when Kate goes back to the Hydra island for him, because they are all on their way back to Otherville with Ben!! ((Big "Duh" moment for Aunt Jann, I didn't even think of that)) And he will probably be there tending to Ben for some time, before returning to the Hydra for his probable come-uppance from Sheriff Scary-Hair. Oh well, then the rescue squad can get Alex and Carl out instead.
No prob TBM, you made me sound smarter than I'yam. :o)
'Night all!
You know, one more thing.....speaking of Cindy, I am really P.O.'d at ABC for that Lost Moment that showed her talking to Jack. That would have been an awesome surprising moment in the real episode if they hadn't have sprung that secret ahead of time. Puh. :-p
I have a feeling the excavation project on the Hydra is going to be one of those never answered questions.
As for the watching it's my opinion that the rest of the society is there to watch what happens and give tacit approval by their presence and their failure to voice any opposition at the time. If they have regrets later, they are constrained from expressing them because they didn't have the courage to do it when it might have changed things. There's also probably a deterrance component in mind and a spectacle component as well. Remember we first met Juliet in A Tale of Two Cities. That book featured numerous public executions based on the new societal justice system imposed post-Bastille storming. In fact I wonder now how much Juliet's trial might mirror Darnay's trial in the book. Both cases are pretty much fait accomplits, Juliet's because Pickett is definitely dead and she definitely shot him and Darnay because it's a crime to be Darnay and he is Darnay. There may also be the spectacle, amusing the crowds aspect of a public execution in the Others society too sort of like that funeral for Colleen.
And on that esoteric note, Nighty-night.
Since WV didn't work the first time, I'll add this.
Capcom, Kate's not going back to the Hydra. Kate realized that the Others would not likely stay at the Hydra but would go home to their backyards. She wouldn't need Rousseau to get back to the Hydra. She's run all over it already. Now Kate's looking for the homes with the backyards. Don't know why Locke thinks he's all in the know other than his overconfident the island speaks to me attitude, but as long as Locke's got a knife, I'm only going to complain a little.
And now, hopefully wv will work and then I'm off to bed.
The other thing linking with the excavation project is the whole "2 weeks" thing that Ben was talking about to Kate in the first episode this season. Why 2 weeks? Did he have a definite time on his own demise? I doubt it. more likely that is the time they expected to be there for the excavation.
I really think with what they were saying before the season starts about Archeology that this is something they will reveal this season. We will have to wait and see.

Having watched the previews now for the next episode I know that my theory about the dirt track leading to eyepatch guy is wrong. Lol. It looks like the folks left on the beach will just be standing around and talking (and playing ping pong) after all.
Hi, everybody! Great episode. I loved the whole thing with the guys and cars and beer. It's funny but in the past my least favorite eps have been Hurley-centric, even though I love Hurley. I didn't care for Everybody Hates Hurley or Dave.
One thing that I thought was incredibly cheeseball was the Sawyer/Kate break up. It was so chick flick. They finally hook up, then have a contrived argument so they can keep up with the sexual tension. TPTB, listen up. It didn't work on Moonlighting and it won't work here. I would have been much more interested in seeing them attempting a relationship with all of their baggage.
I can overlook this because Danielle's back! Yay!
wv: galcrp (What I think about Nikki)
Barbarajay said" TPTB, listen up. It didn't work on Moonlighting and it won't work here. I hope they listen to you Barbarajay. I agree that while in the long run Sawyer would certainly blow it, doing it this fast was a cheap, cheesy convention.
I finally found out why Hurley was eating a Glacier Bar instead of an Apollo Bar! The credit for this is entirely Ralph from the Dharmalars podcast. Way back when they first got into the Hatch and Hurley found the Apollo bars he says "I've never heard of these." So someone was paying attention. Thank you PTB and Ralph.
How long has the VW been in the jungle? Roger doesn't look so good but the paper trash is bright and colorful. Over time and exposed to the elements, wouldn't it fade and eventually turn to compost? Hmm.

Capcom: Yeah, I first thought that Kate would be going to the wrong island to get Jack back...but then I realized that she knew they were going to Otherville (she wouldn't have needed "help" to find the place she just escaped from). With Karl reminiscing about their backyards, she knew Jack would be heading there. The Hydra was not place people had homes and lived.
I think Hurley's weight problem did stem from abandonment issue with his father and the last thing his father did for him was hand him a candy bar. And he led a very lonely life (even manifesting an imaginery friend). Food can definitely be a comfort thing that you go to. I don't know if we'll get any more insights into Hurley's past (more flashbacks), but abandonment and loneliness could lead to food issues.
Also agree with you guys that the producers took the easy way out to keep the sexual tension notched up between Kate and Sawyer. I was thinking of the slogan "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" could apply here..."What happened during our kidnapping stays with our kidnapping". Now that we're back to the beach, we're back to the way we were.
Barbarajay: I think the VW has been in the jungle since "the incident". Agreed the papers and map would have been ruined by now being subjected to jungle heat and rain. (In reality, I don't believe that VW would have started either...but I'm going with the flow.)
As to why Cindy and the tailies were here to "watch": I was very frustrated that Jack didn't question here more! Maybe they were to watch how the society runs, so that they can come to believe they are in a better place. They definitely seemed brainwashed to me.
Good comment Maven. I'd suggest "What happens in the bear cage, stays in the bear cage." Sawyer shocking the stew out of himself and his foiled Ben electrocution are other things from the cage he probably wouldn't want to reveal either.
Jack's curiosity amnesia with Cindy I think is really a symptom of the type of guy Jack is. He's the kind of guy who doesn't like to ask questions that he doesn't know the answer to. I'd guess he's the kind of guy intellectual things generally come easy to and that he doesn't like to reveal to others when he's not getting it by asking what might be perceived of as a stupid question. If he didn't understand what a professor was saying, instead of asking he'd spend 6 hours at the library finding the answer himself instead of 5 minutes getting it from the professor or a fellow student. And when Jack does bother to ask questions I think a lot of the time he discounts the answers he receives for the ones he's come up with in his head. For example, that might explain why he keeps pressing Kate in "Whatever the Case May Be," about the toy plane. "It belonged to the man I loved," just wasn't good enough for him.
Oooooooooooooooooh yeah, thanks peeps for the correction about Kate going back for Jack, you're right. I really should watch these eps more than once! :o) I started saving my taped eps for the breaks between seasons so the reruns would be fresher, but I should view them more when they air.
"What happens during our kidnapping........", heh-heh, very funny! But that blows, too much like a one night stand. Do you think that Sawyer cares about Kate more than vice-versa?
Good point Memphish, I think that Jack also loses his temper when he doesn't know the answers and doesn't want to admit it. Typical dude. Sorry dudes. :o)
Good Evening Locos-
What is up?
Memphish, are you in the 'club'?
I got my dihg beers on ice ready to drink one for you.
Interesting take on the glacier candy bar, I would have never thought of that. So, tptb are keeping up with the continuity aspect of Lost, very cool.
dennis - Any word on the series finale of 'Day Break'?
jgz350, I am in the club and I now understand what y'all mean. Even the non-HD channels make you say, man, I wish that was HD.
One problem with HD where I live in Memphis though is that most of the cable lines in our area are above ground which leads to squirrel problems. So we need an amp, which means a visit from the cable guy and I need a splitter for my personal DVR to record something I'm not watching. B*&ch, b*&ch, b^&ch. So it will be a couple of weeks before everything is up to snuff because I don't have 4+ hours to wait this coming week. In the meantime we feel like someone removed blue glowing glasses from our eyes the color and clarity is so amazing.
So pop that cold one jgz350!
jgz350 and Dennis
It's pretty late (at least here in eastern time, don't know where you guys are) so I don't know if you're around. But I just checked and Daybreak is up. According to the player is was up yesterday. Thought you'd want to know if you already didn't.
Well so far 4 wvs still trying. :)
What an episode this was...
Sayid'sgirl said... Like I said I know nothing about bit torrent and maybe I misunderstood the news, all I know is they said bit torrent and compared it to Napster and that there would be fees. Maybe the reporter needs to research their story better.
You are both right. Bram Cohen, the guy who invented BitTorrent, and owns BitTorrent.com and has "sold out". He has turned BitTorrent.com into a movie and music rental and sale site, making it a "legitimate" download site, like iTunes. This has no effect on any other BitTorrent activity.
LuckyGuyLikeMe said... I'm sorry for my finite wisdom in this area, but if you're going to download LOST in HD on your computer, you'd need a monitor with HD capabilities correct?
No, it doesn't really work that way. The resolution of 720p HD video is 1280 x 720. As long as your screen can display 1280 x 1024, which is pretty common, you'll be fine. However, you need a pretty fast computer to play video that size, at least faster that what I have :)
BTW, to play "full" HD, 1080p, you need at least a screen resolution of 1980 x 1080. In LCD monitor sizes, that usually mean a 24" or larger.

WooHoo!!! Thank you for the good news!
Memphish,
This bud (dihg beer) is for you!
Let me personally welcome you to the club.
Major drag on your HD issues. Fortunatley here in Houston, there are no HDTV issues. Wishing you luck on getting your HDTV issues resolved. When you see Lost in HDTV, even though it is 720p, I'm sure you will be picking your jaw off the floor. Enjoy!
Good evening Loco's,
Good night now-

Hi Loco's.
Hooked on HD. Nascar under the lights, shows off the colors amazingly. It is worth it; if anyone hasn't watched the world in HD.
I enjoyed this episode.I was touched by Hurley's visit with Libby, in his circle of friend.
He was totally honest and open with her.If all of us could be like that when we talked to each other, maybe love wouldn't seem so confusing at times.
I love you guys.
Here's a great analysis of TTID. It has a ton of references to song lyrics if you're in to that kind of thing. I like it because it talks about Highway 61 in Memphis!
Takes a village - Nascar eh? Hubby was just ecstatic about European PGA coverage. It did feel like I could reach out and pick that ball up off the fairway. Can't wait until my first HD LOST episode. Once you've had HD huh? Unfortunately, the next week, I will be going back, but fortunately it will be because I'll be at the beach.
Looking forward to the podcast David.
Have a great Sunday everyone!
