Hi All,

Hope no one has the post-holiday blues. Just in case, here is a little something Lost/SouthPark related to cheer you up. Someone used the make-your-own South Park character site to create the Lost characters. Very funny. I wish that I had thought of that. And no, I would never admit to watching South Park. ;-)

Dennis, I saw a rumor that Daybreak may be airing this Wednesday night on ABC. You can look here: http://www.lost.com/isdaybreakback.shtml

I hope for your sake it is true.

Dennis said...

RE: Day Break

The schedule on ABC.com shows it at 10:00 tomorrow, but according to this article it is a mistake.

By the way, the listing on ABC.com saying that "Day Break" will air on Dec. 27 is erroneous. The network's press Web site lists two episodes of "The George Lopez Show" as airing in the former "Day Break" spot.

ABC had planned to start offering unaired episodes of the canceled “Day Break” this week on the network's Web site, but music clearance issues have prevented the posting of the remaining seven episodes until after the holidays at the earliest, according to a network representative.

The plan had been for one "Day Break" episode per week to be posted at ABC.com. There are a total of seven unaired episodes; six episodes aired before the network pulled the plug on the serialized thriller. The network said to check back after the holiday for more news on when the show's remaining episodes may be posted online.

Also on Lostpedia, since it was discussed here, is their list of frequently spoken phrases and expressions. It's pretty substantial and thorough. We discussed this on the last post, I think. The list is here:

Happy New Year all!

Looks like TLE this summer was more than just how we wasted our time. It was part of a culture shift. Check out these stats (posted also on SotL) from New Scientist magazine:

Take YouTube.com. In July, just seven months after its launch, YouTube users were posting 65,000 new videos and viewing 100 million clips per day....

The other huge phenomenon was MySpace.com, which lets users post and share personal information. Particularly popular with teenagers, it became the most visited address for US users in July, receiving more hits in a one-week period than even Google. By August it had registered its 100-millionth account.

See any possible connections?

And I love the Time's Person of the Year article. One thing they miss though is that you don't have to choose between Lost and blogging. You can do them at the same time, especially on TLC! :-)

Passafist said...

Well I took the two live podcasts (about 3 and a half hours of audio) and editied them down to about an hour! This show is really interesting but very different! IT will be ready sometime tomorrow afternoon! I'll keep you all posted!!

Happy New Year LoCos!!!!!!!

I spent the last two days in a lodge in the Smokies, and today in a restaurant that had 4 TVs going, there was the Mother Of All Lost Previews!!!!! The sound was down so I couldn't hear it, but it showed most of the Lost Moments up to this point and THEN SOME!!! Lots of footage that was not shown yet. Yikes!! Still advertised as starting on Feb. 7 though, but that could still change.

Any of you link-surfing gurus out there willing to try to find today's monster Lost preview for us on the Internet? It was a doozy!

Hope everyone is safe and warm this January 1st. And I pray for everyone to have a happy, and healthy, and very Lostie 2007! XO

Happy New Year everyone! Maven, you are becoming Lady Links-a-lot.

Passafist, can you let us know how spoilery the podcast is? I didn't listen to the last one because I'm trying to avoid spoilers, even previews and Lost Moments. Thanks.
I guess I'm glad the football this week is on Fox, not ABC, so that I can avoid the "Mother of all Lost previews." LOL

I went to see We Are Marshall last week with a girlfriend. There were a lot of women at this football movie. Gee, I wonder why? Anyway, it was better than I expected. It wasn't as melodramatic as I feared it would be. There was a lot of humor in it, and I really liked the use of drumline music during most of the football sequences. I would recommend it, but it will also translate fine to DVD if you just don't have the time while you are busy counting down the days until LOST. (Just over a month now. Yea!)

Passafist said...

It's safe! We didn't really discuss spoilers, you might want to skip the first 5 minutes, but that's about it.

Capcom said...

Hi All,

Hey Maven, I think that was the promo that I saw, #2. Thanks! Yowza. I am really letting down my promo-spoiler boundaries during this breaaaaaaaaaak. I must be hard up. No Memphish, you don't want to see that one if you are avoiding spoilers. The promo even addresses some of our questions in a way, since the end of the season 2.

I'm sure not happy about Bai Ling being added to the show. Although I have seen her to be a good actress in a number of movies (NOT including The Crow), her many recent skanky TV appearances have ruined seeing her in anything, for me. :-p Just my not-so-humble opinion.

Passafist,

I got two Lost puzzles for Christmas too! Which ones did you get? I got #1 (The Hatch) and #2 (The Others).

I have #2 put together if you need to see it complete. #2 was very hard to put together, because of all of the Jungle sections. I haven't started on #1 yet, but it looks easier.

When you finish the puzzle, you can coat the top with Mod Podge (they sell it at craft stores), then it is easier to move around so you can see the back.

I also got the Lost Game. Has anyone played this? It seems very confusing to me.

Glad to see you all are still here- what an incredible bond LOST has become for a group of "strangers". Too cool.
Funny about those myspace and youTube stats from July- looks like we were part of history in the making! Wonder what the stats would've been like if TLE hadn't been going on. hmmm guess we'll never know.
Talk to ya'll again later.....

Let me add my Happy Birthday, Cattygirl!!!!

Scoutpost: Great to hear from you. The Lost Community is so great...it's such a "homey" way to stay in touch during this long, Lost drought (we're all going to be so busy starting Feb 7th, aren't we?)

Passafist: The Skypecast was pretty good (still some technical difficulties though!) A lot of good points were brought up and discussed. You guys are doing an awesome job. It was fun.

Dennis: What's the Lost game like? (Is it comparable to anything?)

Dennis said...

The closest thing I can compare it to would be a combination of Risk and a card game like Magic.

You travel around the island, and try to "lead" other characters. Along the way you "encounter" challenges that you must fight. You can find equipment or special powers that increase your ability.

The directions that came with the game were VERY confusing. We tried to play but we had no idea what we were doing. Fortunately, they have updated rules on the website, and a walk through which made things a lot clearer.

You can read more about it here: http://www.lostboardgame.com/

BTW, There is some interesting Lost info on the game cards. I'll try to scan some in when I get a chance.

memphish said...

Happy (now belated) Birthday Cattygirl!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey, cattygirl! We have the same birthday! ;)

Happy Birthday to you!

I have the first three Lost puzzles (The Hatch, The Others and The Numbers). Photos of all are on my blog, if anyone needs them. I also have a transcription of the info that appears on the back for The Hatch and The Others. I haven't done The Numbers yet, but I will try to this week.

Also, I used a poster frame to flip my puzzles. I put the clear plastic under the puzzle and the board on top, then flipped the whole thing. It worked pretty good.

I was hoping to get puzzle #4, Before the Crash for Christmas, but it doesn't appear to be out yet. Has anyone seen it?

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, I was wrong - I have transcription for The Hatch and The Numbers. I will do The Others this week.

Lost Puzzles! Why didn't I think of putting that on my Christmas list!?

Scoutpost: I had the same question about July and the popularity stats of YouTube and MySpace. I know we must have only been a small bit of the growing popularity of those sites, but we were F5ing all the time! I wonder if anyone official has put the connection with TLE together?

Over the last two days I watched nearly all the episodes of Heroes! (I'd only seen 1 episode before.) NBC has them downloadable right now. Man! Good stuff! Helped satisfy the part of me that's eager for Lost to start.

Happy Birthday Melissa_lossa!

I thought I'd seen the fourth puzzle at my local bookstore. But looking around the internet, it doesn't look like it's out yet. Guess I dreamed it. The boxes claimed to have Season 3 spoilers. Do they? A simple yes/no will suffice.

Twinkle,
I've been watching Heroes too. It's fun, and I like that it doesn't squeeze my brain like Lost does. I miss that brain squeezing though.

There was a good entry on TV Squad about serialized TV yesterday. Here's the URL: http://www.tvsquad.com/2007/01/02/top-tv-stories-of-2006-everything-is-serialized/ I don't know how to link like Dennis and Maven. It talked about how people just couldn't commit to more than one show messing with their mind, and how you couldn't coherently watch something after you'd watched LOST because of the mush it turned your brain into. It forgot to mention, you can't watch anything after LOST because you are on the internet. LOL

Melissa_Lossa said...

Thanks, memphish!

I haven't really seen any season three spoilers on the puzzles. All of the images are from seasons 1 and 2, and the backs feature the blast door map. The only thing I can think of is that they show things that we've seen before that are more important than we realized?

Sorry, that was more than a yes/no. :) I guess the simple answer is, no!

Twinkle said...

Maybe it was watching all the episodes in a 36 hour period but the plot on Heroes seems to move faster than Lost. Lost's tidbit approach to answering secrets seems excruciating most of the time! But then curiosity is one of my weaknesses, which is why I read spoilers.

memphish said...

Funny Twinkle. I think the main difference about Heroes is that we know what could have been the big mystery, namely why these people have these powers. With Lost, to me the biggest mystery is what is up with this island, and after 2 1/2 years, I still don't have a clue.

I think you're also getting that new relationship buzz from Heroes, kind of like kissing a new boyfriend versus your old husband.

Twinkle said...

Maybe. I don't consider Heroes to be one of my regular shows but one that I'll catch up with now and then by reading online. I keep up with a couple others that way too. I'm one of those people who has to skim ahead in a book to get answers before being able to put it down and go to sleep. I've always found Lost excruciating and frustrating. The unanswered questions really bug me. And I keep watching it for that reason. :-D

maven said...

Twinkle/Memphish: I've been enjoying Heroes since it started...but only as pure entertainment. I don't go on the Heroes' message boards or blogs and dissect every scene, look for meaning in every piece of dialog and try to figure out the mystery. I'm just going with the flow and let the mystery unfold. No thought involved. That article is so right...I can only invest my "thinking" energies in one series. (And I've invested a lot in Lost! LOL) Heroes has moved ahead at a good pace, unveiling just the right amount of information (promos are, as usual, misleading and the show never really reveals all you're led to believe). The slow pace and more questions than answers approach on Lost is very aggravating, but, obviously we all still come back for more...don't we? My aggravation quota allows for only one show...Lost!

memphish said...

Agree Maven. And speaking of uncomplicated, I'm looking forward to Friday Night Lights tonight. High school is easy compared to Lost.

Scoutpost said...

Hey guys!
Happy Birthday melissa-lossa!

Hey Twinkle thanks for the info on Heroes being downloadable on NBC right now. I've been wanting to watch it, too, but have always figured I wouldn't be able to catch up with the plot. I'll try it out, but like you guys, all my mental energy is reserved for LOST- no matter how frustrating it can be sometimes, I've invested too much time in it now to let it go til it's over! Plus, I just really like it.

Dennis,
I have to say my response to Evi is:
"Boo hoo," what the heck did you expect? I know you're from some small town in Canada, but I'm pretty sure they get People magazine there so you had some inkling of what it might be like to be an actress, and then you go and start dating some British guy and the British press is even worse than the US press." Sorry if that's a bit harsh.

I've seen on other websites that there's been some backtracking and saying she was taken out of context. I also know there's a sizable contingent of Kill Kate people out there, so she better watch out what she wishes for.

Hi All,

And "Howdy" and welcome back to all the lurkers and old TLECers who have posted during the holidays!

Thanks to everyone for sharing the links that you have found, it does indeed keep the Lostie heart warm during these cold, dark, long, break-weeks. :-(

And Happy B-Day to those having them!

I didn't think that the interview with Damon was too spoilery, or maybe it's just my lowered spoiler standards as of late. As usual, he doesn't give any secrets away, but he does mention things like "so-and-so" will have a big story in episode 10, or that we will hear a lot more about "whatever" in the middle of the season, or that we won't see anything more about "so-and-so" this season. Even though he doesn't give anything away (IMHO), it was an interesting article. But read with caution of you're spoiler-free.

As for Evi and her fame, I agree with Dennis, but fame did kind of come upon her unusually quickly. She probably expected that this odd-ball series would be a way for her to learn about TV acting and improve her acting chops, until the Big Job came along. "Surprise, surprise, surprise!", as Gomer Pyle would say. :-D Hopefully Dom can help her work it out. Let's just hope that she doesn't go the way of Shania Twain, getting so sick of the fans that made her a bazillionaire, that she says she feels she has to move to Switzerland just to get away from them. And Evi better get used to the fact that she will be expected to go to the Lost equivalent of Star Trek conventions for the rest of her life! :-D

And in my NOT so humble opinion, I think that article about people only being able to follow one heavy show at a time is typical of the networks' "mis-underestimating" TV viewers. The X-Files burned my brain out, but I still had to watch Millenium, The Lone Gunmen (brief, but sweet), The Pretender, JAG, Harsh Realm (understandably brief!), etc., all here and there in the same seasons. I dunno, maybe I just love wierd hour-long TV programs. But think about it, saying that viewers can only handle one serialized TV show, is like saying that they could only handle taking one college course at a time. The brain is a lot more adaptable than that I think?

Oh well, I'm wordy today, sorry. Hope everyone's week is going well!

HAHAHAHAHA ABC! How long until these shows are canceled?

BTW, Day Break's premiere numbers:

"Day Break" dropped [to second] from its lead-in, scoring an (8.0 / 12) in its first hour... At 10 p.m., "Day Break" slid [to third], finishing with a (6.0 / 10).

All right LoCos,

Doc Jensen is back. Check out his article. http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20006484,00.html
It's not spoilery though it does include one clarification by the producers of something we saw in Tale of Two Cities.

After reading the article maybe we could all pick a letter (you'll see what that means when you read it), and share what our one burning question is.

Anonymous said...

Does anyone now if there is a transcript of the article anywhere else as Entertainment Weekly is blocked from my work PC (which is strange as it is a US publication and I am working in the UK!)

Liked the Podcast which I heard last night, good to hear from TLCM and Maven.

With regards to the transmission of the numbers, my theory was that the Dharma Initiative needed a way to let the 'folks back home' know whether they had suceeded in changing the core values of the Valenzetti equation. As this was top secret stuff they could not just radio the fact they had done it therefore they transmitted the numbers constantly, if they managed to alter a value then the transmission would change with the new value. To anyone outside Dharma the transmission would be meaningless, just another number channel (there are loads of transmission of number sequences, you can find them if you have a short wave radio), but to those in thr know it would let them know the project had been a success. Just after the Lost Experience someone but this to Javier Grillo .... oh I can't spell his name, Javi aka DJ Dan on his own Blog. Javi confirmed that this was indeed the case and the theory was correct although I seemed to remember that he indicated that this would not be revealed in the actual show.

Speaking of Javier Grillo-Marxuach, I recently started 2 threads in google groups referring to, or reguarding him and his personal views.

The first link here is of an interview he (Javi) did with IGN...very interesting IMO.

The second link is controversial, and may NOT be for Lost fans. It involves a September 11, 2001 connection with the Lost story line. VERY speculative on my part, but something to consider...especially with the NightLine Interview by Abrams, Cuse and Lindelof. I have not seen any mention of this interview in TLC.

Glad y'all like the article. I'd have to say I'm still an A too, with a little bit of B tendencies.

I certainly can't wait until it is back on, and I was so glad the Mother of all Previews was not one of the commercials on Ugly Betty last night. I'm still trying to avoid that and the Lost Moments too. Okay, I cheated and saw LMs 5 and 6.

Maven, thanks again for the Ken Levine link. I think Part 2 of his Lost, 24, House article is even funnier than Part 1. Everyone should definitely check that out.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the link Dennis - well it probably won't surprise you all to know that I'm an A (well probaby an A*+ with cherries on it!)

Thinbluemime very interesting stuff, the parallels with the Book of the Dead can't be coincidence. I'm not sure about all the 9/11 stuff but I think as a non-American us Brits are kind of unfamiliar with the American reaction to 9/11 . I think to some extent we are more used to this sort of thing, right from the bombing of London in World War One and of course the Blitz that took apart London in WWII, we lived with decades of the IRA bombing and shooting and so when we had are terrorist attack in 2005 (the bus and underground bombs) I think we took the F@@@ You attitude and got on with life as normal and we don't really dwell on it.

I'm not trying to put down 9/11 which was probably the defining moment of the end of the twentieth century but I get really maddened when it is used as an excuse to clamp down on our freedom, OK so 3,000 people died; well 450,000 Brits and 418,000 Americans died in world war two (not forgetting the Canadians, Aussies, Indians etc etc) to preserve those freedoms and way of life. Now you get The Patriot Act and we get something like 3900 new laws from our wonderful Mr Blair. It is a terrible thing to see American Soldiers guarding concentration Camps instead of liberating them.

Ok rant over....

Thanks for the articles everyone! Especially the Doc Jensen one. I'm really starting to love that guy's brain! I am definitely a Type-A Lost fan, even though I myself, am a cranky patience-challenged blogger! So I will take that big bottle of downers from Mr. Type-E for my bad Lost withdrawals. :o) I don't know yet what question I would ask that wouldn't be the type of question that TPTB won't answer. Perhaps I would ask if they could show us an overall view of the island geography so we can get better bearings as to where everything is. Or whether the Swan station was totally destroyed....and if not, is there anything useful left in there for the Lostaways and the story? I really enjoyed the Swan!

Doc's take on Amazing Grace is, well, amazing. But I'm not sure that I follow him all the way down the theory path. The Swan orientation film seems to have been at the very least, telling the truth about punching in the numbers, as we saw when the whole thing went kaboom. Although it does seem as if the Pearl video was a big fat lie. It also seems to me as if the order to not use the computer for communication with anything outside the Swan, was a ploy to keep people as isolated as possible, ensuring no outside influences to obstruct their work and duties. We saw Michael use it for other than resetting the timer, and nothing happened. Doc's psychic theories sort of walk in line with my theory about the possibility of Smokey or other entities (Christian, horses, whispers, etc.), being manifestations like the Id Monster in the movie Forbidden Planet. I don't think that I'll be correct, but TPTB have borrowed from a lot of other things, so that's as possible as any other guesstimate I suppose.

DA, to understand 9/11, just think Pearl Harbor. And yes, it is different for the UK than for the US, we are more isolated from the enemy lines than the UK, which has always been surrounded by agressives throughout history. I thought that in the first season of the new Dr. Who, the Doctor put it well when explaining England's bravery in WWII...he said something about how (VERY paraphrased) the evil forces were taking down European countries one at a time, until one little island stood up and said, "No! Not here!" It was a very touching fact expressed in that short little dialogue of the episode.

Thanks again everyone for all the interesting info posted here! We seem to be keeping ourselves immersed in the Lost Universe during The Break, thanks to our community. And thanks to the Admins. :o)

maven said...

Capcom: Agreed...the latest Lost Moment is yucky!

thinbluemime said...

dark angel, we do not disagree :)

The 9-11 attack, for the ones that died, was bad enough. The terror instilled in the survivors is what is devastating. Terror that induces citizens to surrender their thought process to protect their freedom, turns many into zombies... the walking dead.

One more thought to consider. Javi wrote for ABC's Lost, and was essentially an abc employee, since abc owns the rights to Lost. Javi's scathing, scorching evaluation of abc's news coverage via his blog entry
(He agreed with the Fox commentary, posting the full transcript and the commentary video)
indicates he doesn't agree with abc on some level concerning the reporting of events of 9-11.
He can now speak more freely since he no longer writes for abc.

While employed for abc, did Javi express his thoughts and feelings in a way that abc could not decypher?

Remember cyphers and glyphs were a highlight of the ARG summer of 2006, of which, Javi was a KEY player.

What am I suggesting?

Just look and listen to Lost, with a mind set, "Outside the Box", because the real Lost story might just be "Outside the Box.....the television box.....

I Love Lost, the characters, the writers, the music...and the fans, so I hope this is not offensive, just thought provoking....

Hello again. I was just checking out my email from EW and clicked on the article Future Schlock, the 2007 Forecast. This paragraph made me laugh:

Jack Bauer will save the world again. But viewers find themselves disenfranchised midway through this season of 24 after it becomes clear that Jack is not even having to try that hard anymore, and is in fact just sort of strolling through the day like Pepe Le Pew, but with a gun. Meanwhile, American Idol's ratings continue to soar, inspiring an unheard-of network crossover special in which ABC pays AI judges and finalists to appear as a new tribe of Others on Lost. The kids perform a rousing medley of ''Let the Sun Shine In'' and ''Against All Odds,'' which lifts the spirits of the survivors, but all the unnecessary melisma wakes up one very angry polar bear, who — drawn by the scent of lip gloss, Diet Coke, and Nyquil — mauls Paula Abdul. Fox network heads, considering this a direct affront, rush So You Think You Can Survive on a Desert Island While Singing Popular Hits? onto the air, scheduling it for Wednesdays at 10.

memphish said...

Cattygirl, that's great. I think they AI folks need to be sure and include some cheery Brady Bunch songs in that medley. Time to Change might be especially appropriate for the Losties.

Meanwhile, everyone clear your schedule for next Saturday night: http://www.emmys.tv./events/2007/Lost.php
That's my anniversary, but hey, 17th isn't really that big. I'm sure my husband really wants to spend it with me glued to a webcast.

Dark Angel - amen. The events of 9/11 were horrifying, but the things that have happened in the US since are almost worse.

That clarification in the Doc Jensen article was interesting - and fit in perfectly with my idea that the Others are trying to guard themselves against some force on the island that can use your thoughts against you. I'd like to know if the Others are all taking the "vaccine."

And yes, the latest Lost moment was a little yucky... and more than a little random!

Also I would like to say, I'm sure on behalf of the LoCos as well, thanks for keeping this blog going for us even though life has kept you from participating as much as you would like to. Most of the time when people start converstional blogs, and then life throws into the mix events that put the blog at the low end of the priority list, they shut the blogs down. Thanks very much for keeping this one alive so that all of the LoCos can continue to wax philosophical (and complain!) :o) about Lost with each other in such an intelligent and civilized forum. And thanks to your assistant Admins, who have helped you to be able to keep this blog alive and current. All the LoCos are looking forward to Lost Community Blog 2007 as much as I am, I'm sure!

Have a good week everyone! :o)

Okay LoCos, here's something someone creative can do to while away the less than 1 month remaining on hiatus. I found a link to a Bingo board someone has created for the show 24. You can see it here: http://plutor.org/24/bingo.html

Any takers to make one for our favorite show? If it was for watching your Season 1 and 2 DVDs you'd certainly have to include a square for Michael saying "Walt," or "my son," or "my boy."

Capcom said...

Hey Memphish, that's funny. You could even have squares for anytime Michael yells instead of talking normally. I assume that the game is played in more or less the same way as the TV Drinking Games?

For a Lost game season 3, I would include squares for every time: Jack makes a mean/goofy Jack-face; Kate squints; of course, Kate runs; Claire says, "the bai-bee"; Charlie gets jealous; Desmond looks gorgeous...er, has a premonition -- and you could go crazy with the phrases like: what makes you think I'll trust you/them; you can't tell me what to do; see you on the other side, the numbers are bad, I'm gonna kill you/him; I'm not Jack, etc. Oh what fun! :o) The possiblities are endless really. But we might have to have character-centric cards, for when the episode is mostly about one person, or else some squares would never get filled during some shows since only half of our intrepid islanders seem to show up on each episode now.

Ciao.

Hey, Misskitty211908: Congrats on de-lurking! And welcome to LoCos! Once you start posting you can't stop! LOL

Hi to FYSB and Experimentalfilm! Great to see some "old-timers" here.

Memphish: Would Lost Bingo be "Lost-O"?

memphish said...

Maven, I like the idea of L-O-S-T-O.

Capcom, I like your suggestions. How about adding a space for Jin says some English word and Hurley says Dude. You'd certainly need a space or spaces for the appearance of the numbers, one for a light/dark reference, Sawyer gives out a nickname, Sawyer reads a new book. The possibilities are endless. We could all have our own individual cards and cry out LOST-O on the blog when we hit.

It reminds me of something we did in law school. In Torts the professor called on a lot of people every class, so we made Bingo cards with people's names on them. When you got a Bingo, you had to get the professor to call on you and use the designated winning word in a sentence to signal to the rest of the players that you had Bingo. It was always a lot of fun.

Welcome Misskitty211908!

I hope that helps, If you want any more help give me a shout.

Here are a couple thoughts that may be far fetched, but entertaining nontheless.

Sometime ago I blogged how Hurley's Numbers might be an actual date in real time. Details here:
http://users.newblog.com/thinbluemime/?post_id=11383

Using March 4, 1948 as a starting point, I have discovered some close connections to the Lost storyline.
Both postings involve comic book characters.

The first is titled "Walt's Comic" and IS NOT what you might think it is:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.lost/browse_frm/thread/613e66c75b062581/4547915d8280080a#4547915d8280080a

The second is from a 1948 Superman's Adventure radio show titled "The Adventures of Superman - Kingdom Under The Sea"
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.tv.lost/browse_frm/thread/1c3a07bb79b2b185/4b9f51e1fdbb96de#4b9f51e1fdbb96de

Both are a serious "fun take" on possible tie-ins and original inspiration for the Lost mythology.

BTW, at my blog, I have found MANY "March 4, 1948" tie-ins to the Lost story, so have fun reading during these few weeks before season 3 begins again.

Someone has the opportunity to ask a clarifying question and actually ASKS it

An Other beats Sawyer (this would be that "free" square i think)

Don't worry dear, the first ARG is free!

maven said...I took a peak at your link for The Vanishing Point. It looks interesting and confusing. But, I don't know...I'm so ARGed out!

It's more puzzle solving, less hacking. You have to watch the Event video for clues to help with the puzzles. Without giving too much away, you generally solve part of the puzzle, then it will ask you a question based on something in the video.

So far I've solved 2 of the puzzles (sundial, gears), and almost have 3 more solved (watch springs, mantle clock, pocket watches). I started to make a blog where I was going to post my answers, but I found a website that already has all of the answers. :( It's a wiki like Lostpedia, so it also has a lot of background info. The clues aren't as flushed out as what I was doing... they pretty much just give you the answer (there may be some TLE-style cheating going on!). I'm torn on whether to continue my blog... :(

I'm still going to try to solve all the puzzles myself. The Game ends at the end of the month, so it will be something interesting to do until Lost starts again (28 Days!)

BTW, Like TLE, there are going to be LIVE events in Los Angeles, Miami, Austin, Phoenix, Arizona, San Francisco, Seattle, Singapore, Sydney, Berlin, London, Toronto. Here is the schedule for those that live in one of these cities.

Hi All! Wow, I get sick and miss one day of checking the blog and it gets all filled up with great posts from everyone, old and new!!

Many interesting comments by one and all. I certainly hope that Mittlejerk's rat-tail is gone-o if TLE starts up again. Very undignified for a scientist to have a mullet-ponytail. That characteristic alone would say to me that he is truly not a genuine scientist. I think that we will find Mittlejerk all messed up and crazy, hiding in a spider-hole like Saddam! :o)

Heh, funny how TPTB have a way of getting us to wishing our lives away! We wish for the fall season to hurry up and start; we wish for February to hurry up and get here; and now we will be wishing for a summer of possibly TLE Part Deux to hurry and begin. TPTB have created some rabid fans of us, for sure.

Concerning Manny, why do you all think that a fictitious character from the commercial side of the TLE would resurface (wasn't Manny a part of the Verizon side of it all?)??? I mean, instead of say, RACHEL, or Hanso, who were actual characters from the game? It was nice hearing from him. I wonder who he really is? He must have thought that the game was fun too.

Great ideas for our L-O-S-T-O game!

Regarding TLE Part II (if it actually happens) I hope TPTB have learned from the first one. Oh, how we all forget how awful the ending was this past summer but I would be estatic if it happens this summer, as I'm sure many Locos will be. It's good to see the enthusiam for another round.

Capcom said...

I haven't forgotten IB4! And I think that's why we are craving so much for a second part -- for the finish of what TPTB began last summer, but failed in delivering a solid ending for, for whatever reasons.

Scoutpost said...

Wow! Another TLE! That would be so great, I hope it's true, but that is a good point about Manny- why would he be the one to start dropping hints about another ARG?
If it does turn out to be true, I too hope that TPTB would make some adjustments and handle a second ARG better, but really, now that it's all over, my main memory is the fun that I had with all you guys. So I really hope they do another one, I would love to spend the summer playing with you guys again (even if it is as boring as a 30 day long glyph hunt).

P.S. My WV's have worked their way up to 8 letters now nearly proving my theory- NOT! hehe
WV= nwknmydr= "knock on my door"?

Ditto Scout about the TLEC fun!

But let TPTB be warned......we are on to them now, we (the LoCos) have a vast intelligence network developed, and they'd better be careful to not release a clue before it can be used or inputted!! In other words, if they under-estimate us again even close to how they did last time, with what we know now, we will walk all over this game! Heehee! :o)

Your answers are soo funny, everbody! Hey, ib4uc, maybe Willie Nelson *is* Mittlework before his extended life treatments! Then Mittlework would be in Austin, TX on a ranch somewhere.

As for Manny, I'm not sure he's actually telling us something. Sounds more like some intern would like to keep up the fun just like we would.

I wonder why they gave the ARG to Javi when he was the one writer who wasn't coming back? Is there anyone left who knows how to do/has energy for an ARG? And why let us bond with someone on staff who's no longer on staff? That's a bummer. Javi, we miss you!

How did they get word out last year that there would be an ARG? I know I heard about it from a yahoo group I was part of. You would think if they were doing another one, that they would announce it the same way. Guess I won't get my hopes up just yet, but it would be really cool. Maybe I should make plans to be at Comic Con this year.

ib4uc said...

scoutpost... I think I first heard about TLE last year from the ABC website. But it wasn't until late spring, maybe after the season finale of Lost, that I first heard about it.

Scoutpost: I first heard about TLE in a newspaper article saying that it would start in May ('06), and it was very vague but intriguing. There are sooooo many lose ends from TLE-1, they HAVE to do Part 2! And, hopefully, they've learned a lot from their continuity errors.

Just saw a new Pinesol cleaner commercial in which a lady is listening to the radio and getting her lottery numbers: The announcer says: "The final number is 42! If you have those numbers...." and she starts screaming! (The husband comments on how good the house smells.) Just thought it was was funny...my ears perked up on the number 42!

I just checked out Lostpedia, and they reference a NYT article that I posted, in another forum. LOL.

The article was dated April 24, one month before the end of Lost's Season 2 (May 24), and about two weeks before TLE officially began (May 5). BTW, ComicCon wasn't until Stage 3, which started July 22.

If you read the article, it's funny to look at some of the comments speculating on what the game is going to be about. :)

FYI: The Writer's Guild has nominated LOST for Best Dramatic Series.

memphish said...

Thanks Maven.

It's interesting that LOST is also nominated for Best Episodic Drama for "Two for the Road" which I recall being one of the most disliked episodes of Season 2 except of course for the last few minutes. I feel like Ana Lucia was one of those characters (like the the two that are bleeped out on the podcast) who was beyond redemption for the viewers. I guess we should be glad she found her redemption on the Island by being unable to take out "Henry." Oh how different things would be if she had done it when she had the chance.

To end on a positive note, I remember how totally blown away I was by the ending to that episode. I couldn't go to sleep, and I couldn't even bring myself to rewatch the episode the end was so mind-blowing. Boy I hope 3.07 does something like that, but hopefully without the 30+ minute ramblings that led up to the Big Bang ending.

TLE was the catalyst for me to start watching LOST, I'd appreciate a sequel.

There's a new "LOST Moment" on ABC.com.

The Futon Critic (TV news site) has a list of what they think were the 50 best episodes of 2006.

#25 - Lost: "The 23rd Psalm"

In an age where promos and previews give away everything, the big "smoke monster" reveal in this episode - during a non-sweeps month no less - had to be one of the most unexpected twists this show has ever had.

#35/34 - Lost: "Live Together, Die Alone, Parts 1 & 2"

After its disappointing send off in season one, we got the info dump of info dumps in its season two finale - the hatch exploding, the Others capturing Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sawyer, Desmond's backstory and the show's first post-crash visit off the island.

What do you think? Do you think these were the two best episodes last year?

God, if there is another one it will be a mixed blessing. Seriously, my life as a mom seriously suffered during the game. I loved "hanging" out with you all so much. I need to figure out a better balance. LOL

Hey, everybody!! Hope everyone is doing well in this New Year!

It's been fun catching up reading all the posts ... lots of discussion of another TLE this summer, which made me snoop around and find this site that I found interesting with an interview and site link to the guy who plays Mittlewerk:

http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25012

I'd be surprised if he'd lose that ponytail...

Dennis, thanks for the info on the new Lost Moment. Wow, Hurley!!! My puppy, who is his namesake, has been feeling more feisty, too. ha ha

Wopalockapino, I think many of us think of a new TLE as a mixed blessing. But I would LOVE it! (and hopefully try to keep balanced) Seems there are many loose ends, so, bring it on!

Hi DA, how's baby angel? Don't think you have to worry about your boss being here...

Hey All
I finally have something to watch on tv. Crossing Jordan is coming back on Sunday. I haven't watched tv since Lost went on hiatus. The few new shows I considered have either been canceled or are also on hiatus. With all the channels that are available there is so little worth watching.
Another TLE does sound like alot of fun. I think I first found out about it when I dialed the Hanso phone number they gave out at the end of a show. I started looking around at that website and the ABC Lost site and found the link to Inside The Experience which led me to your site and many others. I'd never played an ARG or really even heard of or knew what they were so I lurked and learned it was fun.

TGIF LoCos!

Wow! That Greygrass guy really is Mitteljerk??!! When I saw the website on another forum I thought that it was just someone who looks a LOT like TWM. He looks totally different with a smile on his face, seriously! Not TWM-like at all. I really came to get the total creeps from TWM near the end of TLE, but Greygrass doesn't give off that vibe at all. Well, he's a very good grainy-video actor. :o)

Thanks for the link Codysmom. And nope, I don't suppose the ponytail will be going anywhere! :-D

I'm sure many of us get that 'look'!

Codysmom: Wow! Is that the first the origin's of Mittlework have been posted on the Community? How did we never find him before? So fantastic! Thanks!

Twinkle said...

Hmmm...he showed up in Lostpedia on Sept 20th. I guess I just figured we never figured out who he was. His Lakota name means "Afraid of no things."

Is this a coincidence? Or could there be a Lost connection?

Here's a question. Who is the most random person you told about the Arg? I told the drive-thru guy at Arby's (because he looked a little like Hurley). I also told the ER doc that was taking care of me when I thought I was having chest pains. LOL I am an idiot.

hey guys just droppin in i saw this article on lostpedia homepae check it out Earlier this month, Jack Bauer was unable to avoid the roving band of pirates in the Torrent scene as the four part 24 Season Premiere hit the internet weeks ahead of its air-date. Yesterday, unmarked envelopes began appearing in film and tv critics mailboxes across the country. Inside was a disk with a simple screen-print logo: "LOST - (with the name of the anticipated Feb 7 episode). Oh, how I wish I was one of those people. Hi All,

Wopa, I don't think that I have tried to talk to anyone random about Lost, and very few of my acquaintances as well. After all the weird looks and reactions I got when I was addicted to the X-Files, and tried to explain it to non-Filers, I have not even gone down that path with Lost. If someone I know or meet seems like a potential Lostie candidate, I might ask them if they watch it, and if they don't, I quickly change the subject for the most part. Just call me chicken, or, tired of people looking at me as if I've got 10 heads. :-p

Hope everyone has a great weekend. :o)

cam794, I have downloaded 2 torrent files in last 3 days, both bogus. I am still searching....I would give my eye-teeth for a complete preview.....If it is out here......I WILL find it :)

Hi all... just checking in now that we are getting closer to Lost returning! Glad to see so many familiar names still on the blog.

Wopa: I kind of agree with Capcom. It's so hard to explain this obsession, isn't it? Even my 24 year old son who watches Lost, never could understand how crazy I was last summer with TLE! Unless the show comes up in normal conversation, I keep my addiction hidden. Thank goodness for all you LoCos! You're the only ones who understand me. LOL

(Hi, Joann. Glad to see you're still around!)
