The Package - Season 6, Episode 9

While Sun and Jin continue to search for each other, the Locke monster faces his enemy.

Can we please, PLEASE have a happy reunion tonight?!

In other news, as you may have heard, there is some sort of live via satellite event happening in theaters on Thursday, May 20 (3 days before the finale) - supposedly, Team Darlton will be answering questions and showing a 1-minute preview of the finale.

Is this old news?

Ooh, I hadn't heard about the satellite thing. I just heard for the first time today that there's no episode on the 18th. Guess this is why.

Tess315 said...

Hey Guys ready for tonight's episode. :)

The last post said 633 but only has 538... last page actually said 601 - 538 of 633... huh? WTF?

Black Swan said...

Hey ange! Your black swan cork pic is gone!! I want it! LOL!

Black Swan said...

Oh, I bet they need Jin because Sun played let's make a deal with Widmore

Tess315 said...

Black Swan
Hey there! My guess was Widmore, guess I was right.

Black Swan said...

yep, SG.. where's everybody else?

Melissa_Lossa said...

Black Swan - it's definitely happening in Michigan! Mr. Mel saw a posting that Celebration theaters in MI accidentally leaked the info.

Geez, my eye almost got poked out by the close-up of Sun's bra! :-p

Black Swan said...

ROFL, capcom!

Capcom said...

Glad she ran from Flocke tho!

Tess315 said...

lol capcom
I know. How many close up did we need.

Black Swan said...

ps...You should have seen it with my new led hd tv...hahahahahahaha

Seeing Sun's garden again made me miss the good old Lost we used to know even more.. ((sigh))

Oh no, Sun's dead! *wink*

Tess315 said...

Is she pregnant?

Capcom said...

Oh yeah, let's see some Flocke freakout!

Tess315 said...

Romm 23!!

Capcom said...

I was gonna say, that's a really big room for a sub!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Jin's in room 23!

Capcom said...

Is Flocke trying to get the wall-namese off the island so there won't be anymore Jacobs?

Black Swan said...

ML, anything in the Detroit area that you know of? I could do Lansing, lots of family there

Amy Lynn said...

Yunjin Kim is gorgeous. Glad to see her with more than one line.

LOL Keamy!

Black Swan said...

Good thinking capcom!

Black Swan said...

Thank you sooo much, Melissa!

Beverly said...

LOL! Sawyer -- "No, because that wouuld be ridiculous!" HaHaHaHaHa

Melissa_Lossa said...

Swan - Celebration is mostly on the west side, but there must be theaters showing it on your side, too. Royal Oak maybe?

Tess315 said...

Who called Jin as her body guard?

Capcom said...

Eee, I'm scared! :-o

Dedjezter said...

checked his room... are they not married.. in sideways world?

Beverly said...

So Flocke can't cross the water as Smokey. How did he get there to take on Christian's persona to talk to Sun and Frank? If he took an outrigger, how did he beat them there?

Tess315 said...

Two eyed Mikhail.

Tess315 said...

Yay Richard! I'm liking him again.

Beverly said...

"because you're speaking" Priceless!

Capcom said...

And Widmore says, "Bring it on!"

Tess315 said...

That's what Widmore told Locke.

TakesaVillage said...

Thems fightin' words.

Beverly said...

Where's Sayid?

Black Swan said...

LOL, Sayid'sgirl.. yeah, maybe I'll let Richard be Black Swan's protector again now that he's not a whimp or a laughing hyena again. (just kidding)

Thanks, Mel.. I'll check it out!

so the whole war is to get Jin because Flocke needs them all to leave the Island, right?

Beverly said...

So why did Widmore need Jin specifically. Couldn't he have taken any of the candidates?

Black Swan said...

Hi, TAV!

Don't mess with Sun! LOL!

Capcom said...

Cheez-whiz, even the FSs are out of sequence!

Tess315 said...

Sayid is swimming around the pylon fence is my guess.

Black Swan said...

Lostit, I'm thinking of before the O6 went back to the Island, he and Sun made some kind of deal, so maybe he's keeping Jin safe there? (or at least thinking he is)

Beverly said...

They finally gave Sun some good lines and they're in Korean.

Beverly said...

Thanks, BS. I had forgotten about that.

Beverly said...

So Jin was supposed to deliver the money to pay his own assassin. Wow! Lucky for him the money was confiscated.

I wonder though, what reason did they give for Sun traveling with Jin if they were keeping their relationship a secret?

Capcom said...

No, it's time for US to see the package!

Tess315 said...

My only 2 guess of the who is Desmond or Walt.

Black Swan said...

awww, Jin's never seen his daughter..

gosh, who to believe? who's telling the truth? If "it ceases to be", without Widmore getting his way, then does this mean it's just a matter of which timeline wins? (flashback/sideways) And if Wid wins, it would be the original flashbacks.. hmmm (sideways would cease to be?)

Capcom said...

Yeah that's pretty harsh, Lostit!

I like your idea BS!

Black Swan said...

I want to see the package.. hmmm, I have no idea WHO it is!

Tess315 said...

I just had an awful thought based on the FS and the island story line. I let you know if I'm right.

Amy Lynn said...

LOVED the camera/Ji Yeon bit. Very nice.

Black Swan said...

Capcom, so if MIB wins, it's the sideways? (I'm thinking yes, thus big war)

Black Swan said...

Patchy.. in the eye! OMG, Sun!

Capcom said...

I guess so?? :-o Cuz the FS isn't too happy for most.

Black Swan said...

With Sun not being able to speak English, it all reminds me of Locke who couldn't talk after the Swan implosion

Kat said...

i missed the beginning of this episode =(

Tess315 said...

AH Duh

Kat said...

DESMOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Capcom said...

Well, well, well.

Black Swan said...

Capcom, you don't think the FS is better than the original flashbacks?

Amy Lynn said...

Oh, dear lord, that preview was better than this entire episode.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

wow, great show !! well, off to pump out the basement from the flood again, Miss everyone I've been sooo busy these days.

Black Swan said...

I can't believe it's over already!! How can time go so fast?!?

Tess315 said...

I don't think the FS are better or happy but bland.

Black Swan said...

Hi Lisa,
sorry to hear about the flooding basement

Black Swan said...

Sayid'sgirl, can you tell us what you were thinking now?

Tess315 said...

Hi Lisa sorry you're flooded.

Capcom said...

I guess the FBs and the FSs are about 50/50, but the FS sure isn't an improvement. ;-)

Beverly said...

I think the FS started out looking better but it's all starting to unravel.

Capcom said...

Yes, Lisa, sorry for you!

Tess315 said...

Oh btw my awful thought didn't happen. :) I thought Sayid was going to kill Jin in both time lines.

Black Swan said...

SG, the FS is just more like real life.. LOL! Not murders, adulterers, etc. Not good tv, though

Amy Lynn said...

LOL, on V, Elizabeth Mitchell's character just said, "Don't tell me what I can't do."

memphish said...

Overall a relatively slow episode but it definitely had some good things in it.

I LOVED that Jin shot out Mikhail's eye. I liked that we had more Keamy and Omar and even Danny (presumably Pickett) got a shoutout.

I loved seeing Jin see Ji Yeon, at least in pictures.

I hate that it sounds like no one is ever leaving this Island per Widmore. I'm not sure I'm buying this whole I have to leave with all the candidates thing. I more get the sense that they all have to die for Smokey to be able to leave. I don't understand why if Widmore's mission is to keep Smokey from leaving he's brought Tina Fey, Geophysicist and her merry band of geeks. (And it's time for them to die already, especially Tina Fey.)

I'm glad Desmond is back though the reveal was a bit anti-climactic.

TakesaVillage said...

Good call guys on Sun pregnant & a Dez in the box. Off to watch V.

Beverly said...

BS, funny you should say that. The island feels more real to me even though what has happened on it is nowhere near anything that could happen in reality. Probably because I already have 5 years invested in what happens on the island.

memphish said...

And I forgot to add that I love that Sun got shot in the FS. Not because I want something bad to happen to Sun, but because it finally feels like the FS may have some sort of weight to them if you can die in them too. Who wants to bet Jin is taking her to Saint Sebastian where she will need back surgery? I'd prefer though if she saw Dr. Burke, fertility specialist.

Capcom said...

Maybe Wid ran out of Mercs. :o)

I hate that new chick, and I don't like to say 'hate'.

I wonder if they all just have to die so that there will be no candidates left to be replace Jacob, so that Neo-Jacob can't hunt down MIB and jail him again. ???

Tess315 said...

lol Black Swan
The FS is like the town in the Sepford Wives. Pod people.

Lisa-Maladylis said...

ahh well, no worries, it happens. But wow, that was a great show. Just don't ever know who to trust and now not only feeling sad for Sayid being so unfeeling but now poor Des !! well, off to bed.

Black Swan said...

I don't like the idea of the FS being true and they don't really seem real to me, but I like the idea of our Losties not being murders in the first place. But the only thing feeling real right now (as far as people) is on-Island Losties. Maybe I've been on the Island too long.. LOL!

Capcom, LOL, yeah he ran out of mercs like last time when he sent the freighter.. he didn't learn from that mistake, huh? and good thinking on that "they all have to die" scenario.. I've been theorizing that for awhile now, tho with a different end-game idea.

Capcom said...

Well you beat me then Bs, cuz I only thought of it tonight. :o)

Tess315 said...

I'd like to see Jin take Sun to Dr. Burke too.

Tess315 said...

I agree BS about the FS. And most people don't feel this way but I would love for them to stay on the island.

Amy Lynn said...

Minor spoiler if you go over to Damon's twitter, about when and if the FS may end.

Beverly said...

I wonder what Sayid's going to do. Will he report back to Flocke? Will he attempt to rescue Desmond from Widmore? If he does, how will that affect the war? What is Desmond's purpose in being there? He seems to be Wid's secret weapon, but how can he help?

Black Swan said...

That would be interesting, Memphish (to see Jin taking Sun to Dr. Burke).

Yeah, capcom, I came up with that theory on Feb. 13 in an epiphany of clear thought.. ROFL! And for the record (in case I'm right) I wrote it as a comment at the lostdestination blog. Actually, if I'm right and they all have to die on the Island to make it in the real world, then it makes me think that someone dying in the FS world doesn't necessarily count. Because the Island right now is the current, real timeline. I also theorized that MIB is doing Jacob a favor by having him killed. Of course, the ppl like Richard and Jacob and MIB who would be too old to live in any timeline in the outside world would die, but that can be a redemption, too.

Capcom said...

Tx, Amy. I kind of hope that they do end. :-o

Agreed SG, that would be pretty neat.

Beverly said...

Woohoo! I was 108!

Black Swan said...

OMG, that was post #108.. LOL, I'll take it as a sign from the Lost gods that I might be onto something.. hahahaha

Amy Lynn, thanks for the info. They've got to 'converge' sometime and I really hope it's soon!

Black Swan said...

jinx, lostit! (it said 108 right after I posted "that would be interesting, memphish)

Beverly said...

AL, I just read Damon's latest tweet and it's pretty cryptic. Not sure how you got that it was about the FS.

Amy Lynn said...

@LostIt, just a guess. Maybe optimism, too, LOL. After last week's awesome, this was just really slow, and uninformative tonight. We knew 99% of what was going to happen.

Tess315 said...

I think what the need with Desmond is to push the button again or turn a fail safe key of sorts. Or something like that. They want Jin to read the maps he made in the DI of the electromagetic pockets on the island.

Beverly said...

BS, It said 108 when I posted just before yours! Ah well, I'm not going to count them to see which one it was.

Capcom said...

Well, it was fun watching with you all anyway. :-x

Biggest creep factor I guess for me was Jin delivering the money to his own assassin, as stated above. That's pure evil Paik for ya, I guess. He would probably even plan to tell Sun about it just to freak her out and scare her from ever disobeying him again.

Black Swan said...

Lostit, we'll call it a draw.. LOL!

How do I get to Damon's twitter (even tho I'm a bird I'm tweet illiterate)

RobPerrin said...

I liked this episode quite a bit. The Jin/Sun FS was great. So many echoes of earlier seasons from Sun's clothes to her garden to Room 23. I thought the writing was crisp, very funny in a few places. Camera scene was touching. Widmore, Mikhail, Keamy, Omar, Des reveal. Very solid. The direction was average; the Des scene was a little clumsy I thought, although it could have partly been the fault of my murky cable feed.

Widmore certainly seemed sincere when talking to Jin - has he really been the hero all along? Or have recent events/information change his game plan?

Capcom said...

Yeah, it said 108 for me too. Counting backwards, I think you got it Lostit.

Black Swan said...

Capcom, yeah.. I agree with you that was creepy. And in TLE, wasn't Paik and Widmore buddies?

Tess315 said...

BTW Who was it that said The heart wants what the heart wants before?

Amy Lynn said...

SG, I thought the heart thing was just a reference to Keamy's heart monitor being tired to the freighter.

Tess315 said...

BS He also told Sun they played golf (?) together when Sun confronted him.

Rob per the Desmond reveal I don't think it was your cable. It was a little clumsy.

Tess315 said...

Amy Lynn
No, That line has been said before.

Beverly said...

SG, I remember hearing that line before too, but I don't remember who said it.

Beverly said...

Could it have been Ben when Jack saw Kate and Sawyer on the monitor?

Black Swan said...

Thanks for that info, SG

I'm trying to find that quote in Lost, no luck so far, but the transcript of 'Hearts and Minds' ep is really interesting.. LOL!

Amy Lynn said...

Yeah, Lostpedia doesn't have the line anywhere in it's transcripts.

Capcom said...

I think that's who it was maybe. But it stuck out to me too, LOL. Funny, I would never have remembered it if I didn't hear it tonight.

Tess315 said...

Lostit
It seems like it was Ben to me too. But I'm not sure who he said it to.

Black Swan said...

I did hear Widmore saying a Sawyer line.. what's done is done

And I think Flocke said, what happened happened. Who originally said that?

I think I finally see what Faraday was talking about with the light scattering weird on the Island.. at the beginning when Flocke and Sun are talking out in the field where her garden is/was

Amused2bHere said...

Did anyone notice that Jack held his hand out to Sun the way Flocke held his hand out to his recruits?

methinks I perceive a replacement for Jacob...

I wonder if that will make his father proud?

Tess315 said...

Faraday said what happened, happened.

Amy Lynn said...

Amused, Jack is my best bet for candidate winner. ;) I can't believe I actually said it, but because we got his FS so early in the season, it's done a lot to make me like him.

Capcom said...

BTW, nice that you always come around to chat and kibbitz (if that's the correct word) during the show Ded! :o)

Amy Lynn said...

I will say that during that brief scene after the Lockies got "darted", I thought they were all dead, and thought, "Wow, easy as that? Really?"

That would have been good storytelling.

My frustration, yet again, week after week, is that the fan theories are more surprising and yet more fitting than what we're being seen. If Josh Holloway has to say that Sawyer isn't on anyone's side/team one more time...

Black Swan said...

Hi, amused! How are you? I noticed that move, too. And Jack is still making promises to people and wants to fix things. He walks among them, but isn't one of them, he wasn't on 'the list', and he's just so sure of himself. I think there's something big for Jack, LOL!

SG, thanks! I thought it may have been Faraday (but in rewatching, Flocke says whatever happens, happens to be specific.. when he's telling Claire he needs Kate and he's three people short to leave) Ben's talk to Sawyer at the top of hydra mountain (showing him they were on another, different Island) kind of reminds me of that quote, "the heart wants what the heart wants." It's when he was quoting from 'Of mice and men': "A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody. It don't make any difference who the guy is, so long as he's with you. I tell ya...I tell ya, a guy gets too lonely, and he gets sick." idk

Everytime Jin says NO in Korean, it sounds like he's saying 'honey' LOL!

Ginger said...

I guess I can keep watching since Widmore had Des locked in that room on the sub! I did my Desmond happy dance at the end of that one. I really enjoyed that episode. It did move a little slow, but I still enjoyed every minute.

Black Swan said...

Amy Lynn said...
My frustration, yet again, week after week, is that the fan theories are more surprising and yet more fitting than what we're being seen.

I know what you mean. This season has been weird for me to the point of the finale of season 5 feeling more like a real finale. and what you say about the fan theories being more amazing than anything we're seeing, I think that's what Darlton was so worried about for this season. IMO, they are rushing things just to fit too many things in, at least it feels that way to me. I think they could have had two more seasons, not just one.

Ginger, I'm glad to see Desmond back too but I'm really wondering what they need him for.
The fact that Ms. Hawkings was the 'course corrector' trying to talk Desmond into going back to the Island and her connection as Faraday's mom (and Wid's son). Do you think with all those maps of the energy pockets and bringing Desmond there they mean to build another Swan Hatch? Do you think his plan (and Elly's) is to continue with the time manipulating experiments to get their kid, Daniel, back, maybe finding some way to re-do when Eloise shot him.. to know the future a few minutes ahead so they can fix that?

Black Swan said...

LOL, I meant Daniel Faraday is Widmore's son.

Tess315 said...

I had a crazy thought when Sun started speaking Korean, that the 2 Suns had switched time lines. :)

Black Swan said...

ooooooooh, I love crazy thoughts, SG!! And this is a good one!

Black Swan said...

In fact it would be a really cool backwards effect of my theory they have to die on the Island to survive in the 'real' world. And we were just talking how the FS doesn't feel like the real world, so it's more fitting that they have to die in the FS to survive in the real timeline of the current Island story.. I love it!

maven said...

Watching now. How many are totally annoyed by that huge red V logo? We should boycott V just to piss off ABC so they won't do it again!

Amy Lynn said...

@maven, agree, totally. I don't mind seeing V commercials EVERY FOUR MINUTES, but get rid of the countdown clock.

Black Swan said...

In re-watching when Flocke and Widmore meet at Hydra Island, Flocke says: "A wise man once said that war is coming to this Island. I think it just got here." Who's the wise man that said war is coming to this Island?

Black Swan said...

Sorry, nevermind. I found it and it was Widmore himself, "Because there's a war coming, John. And if you're not back on the Island when that happens, the wrong side is going to win." interesting..

Ginger said...

BS - I have NO idea what their plans are for Des. There are so many reasons he could be there...Daniel said he was miraculously special or different, something like that. Being exposed to the electromagnatic stuff at the hatch. Turning the fail safe key. His subconscious time traveling. His ability to see Charlie's future/death. I am SOOOO confused. I love it though!

Ginger said...

I still want to know why Des was in military prison.

maven said...

Ok...pretty good episode...a lot of great callbacks and tie-ins.

So Flocke has to get all the remaining candidates off the island, so there's no replacement for Jacob. He's using Kate to get 3 of them to come.

So sad that Sayid doesn't feel anything anymore.

Do you think they had Sun say she's tired of all this destiny, purpose talk to echo some fan sentiments.

Sun's room at the hotel was No. 8. So Sun and Jin were fooling around for a while (since she's pregnant). Daddy Paik sure is evil...having Jin deliver his own payoff money. We get the mirror reflection as Sun checks herself before opening the hotel room door.

Room 23!

So Jin is important to Widmore because he signed off on the electromagnetic pockets on the old Dharma grid maps. And Zoe is a geophysicist. I'm thinking Widmore needs to find all those pockets so that he can sink the island! And get rid of MIB.

Cool that Mikhail still loses an eye in the FS.

When Flocke quotes Widmore's line about "a war is coming", does he still have some memories from Locke?

Amused2bHere said...

Hi Black Swan, and all my fellow LoCos! I've been busy with life stuff so I'm mostly lurking these days, but every once in a while I get to comment within the first 200...heh heh

I think Jack reaching his hand out to Sun is the first time I've seen actual evidence that Jack might just choose Team Jacob. Just a thought...and Hurley replaces Ricardus, with MIB forever "Locke'd" in his current form (sorry, couldn't help the pun!)
What I really want to know is who are Adam and Eve in the Cave? I don't want it to be Sun & Jin because I want them to live happy ever after with Ji Yeon.

Amused2bHere said...

omg I just noticed the podcast post! I missed it entirely! going to listen in the morning...

lol!

Scoutpost said...

Hey everybody! I've been fighting a headache all day and so I'm going to head to bed and catch up with everybody later.
Am sorry for poor Desmond.

And for the first time in 6 years I can honestly say: I like Jack Shepherd. :O

Tess315 said...

Black Swan
I never got a chance to get back to this last night because my computer was acting up and freezing up and being generally annoying. :)

You said
SG, thanks! I thought it may have been Faraday (but in rewatching, Flocke says whatever happens, happens to be specific.. when he's telling Claire he needs Kate and he's three people short to leave)

What he was meaning was once I get what I want you can kill Kate or whatever you want to do. Whatever happens, happens.

I never even noticed the V countdown clock until at the end when it was blocking what Sun had written on her notepad.

I wonder if not seeing Jin have a mirror reflection means he's not a candidate? Or maybe it will come later.

lol Scoutpost yeah maybe Jack will make a good leader after all. Jack and Locke have always been my least favorite characters. The one's most people adore. lol

2costa said...

i think widmore's schedule was off with flocke because, everyone didn't come back on the ajira plane. She said it would be unpredictable. Walt, aaron, and jin's kid all needed to come back to have the plan work seemlessly.

i dont think flocke needs to get the candidates off the island they need to die.

jacob left richard in the dark about candidates in order to not affect his behavior. He think's mib is trying to leave the island so he is leading them to the hydra and thats what jacob wanted, but i highly doubt that mib is physically going to leave the island or is trying.

widmore said that their loved ones and things they cared about would cease to exist. Seems like he meant that they have to fight to preserve the jacob affected timline in 2007 or it will reset to the sideways(original timeline).

we learded that widmore is in fact alive in the sideways. It seems way more likely to me that the sideways is the original timeline and jacob and mib picked candidates and others island people from the proximity to people he saw in his mirrors. Artz, keamy, mikhail, ect were all chosen because they intersected with mirroe people.

widmore used near the exact words to describe mib as ben used to describe widmore to locke. "all i know is from rumours , myths, and bedtime stories"

jin was part of widmores secret plan, that's why ben was surprised that jin had survived the frieghter. Lapidus must be working for widmore still.

flocke is the liar, jacob has never lied. Claire's name was on the candidate wall and he lied. Kate is out of the cave running but not the lighthouse. Flocke lied becaus ehe didn't want to get into what get's you crossed off the wall while you are still alive. Hawkings was being serious when she said to desmond for the first time in a while she doesn't know what's gonna happen next, after he was shot by ben.

i suspected the package was desmond, we have never seen his parents i suspect desmond is wallace

penny may not exist in the sideways.

i think it's possible that flockes cave standing's are based on different iteration of the timelines. He knows littleton was crossed off because he knows she is going to die. He thinks kate is gonna die. He lied to claire because he didn't want to tell her she was going to die. So jacob and flocke know what is gonna happen up until the six candidates are the only ones left alive, but not past that point.

sun is not a kwon in the sideways, probably part of jacob's plan to confuse locke in the changed jacob's touch timeline.

i still think that there is only one widmore in both timelines. He was referring to his rule on the island in the sideways, when he told ben he ruled the island for 30 years and he knew who and what ben was. Ben was injected into the timeline by jacob and more specifically horace a former candidate to end widmore's 30 year reign prematurely and make it so widmore is an offisland powerhouse.

the sideways seems to show what we thought all along that mikhail was more loyal to widmore than ben.

paik must have made a deal with jacob , widmore, or ben to let sun and jin get married before in the 2007 timeline but not let them in
the sideways.

sun was probably already pregnant when they landed on the island.

widmore's people were probably the tranquilizer dart people in the oceanic six storyline. Since one of sayid's targets for ben was at oldham pharmaceuticals, so widmore probably has a lot of dharma ties, just like hawkings uses the lamp post.

widmore left illanna and the rest alone from the sub because they are all team jacob or at least against team flocke.

Amy Lynn said...

@2costa sun was probably already pregnant when they landed on the island.

In the main storyline? We know for a fact she got pregnant on the island, because of how many weeks she was measured at in D.O.C.

2costa said...

good point amy lynn, i think they implied that sun and jin hadn't knocked boots for a while when they crashed and the kid was conceived after they reconnected on the island.

funny that jin had a lot of drama on the island involving the watch and had sun not spoken english jin may have died back in season 1

2costa said...

i wonder if sun's english amnesia is related to see no evil, speak no evil , hear no evil. Locke lost his hearing after the failsafe key or kate couldn't hear after jughead. Mikhail being blined in one eye. Now sun can speak no evil

2costa said...

i wonder if the room 23 video relates to choosing to let the timeline change, as a sacrifice. "look at your life, we are the causes of our own suffering, everything changes"

room 23 being on hydra island is no coincidence. We also got our answer that flocke needs a body to go to hydra island.

memphish said...

Morning LoCos!

In no particular order - I like the idea that Sun's inability to speak English is Island induced like Locke's loss of speech in S3 rather than "real." It's hugely soap opera-y.

The V countdown clock didn't bother me. Years of training myself not to look at the guest actor list scrolling by has made me able to ignore such things.

As for Amy Lynn and Black Swan's problem due to fan theories > actual show, I had that problem back in S3 and since then have dialed way back on exposing myself to fan theories and crazy theorizing by myself. I totally feel your pain on that.

Morning all! Too tired after late work to comment last night-but you've already said all that I noticed.

I thought the most interesting line was Widmore's about their loved one's not existing if Smokey escaped.

He didn't say they would die, he didn't say everyone would cease to exist-so I'm not sure what it means, but it puts a definite strange spin on island times.

This is my favorite part of Lostpedia's recap from last night:

Ilana gets her first change of clothes since arriving on the Island.

Hi, locos! I like this episode much better than last week. The only place I've heard the line "The heart wants what the heart wants" was in the very silly movie, Lake Placid. (Giant crocodile in Maine.) I'd like to see Hurley as the new Jacob. I've always seen him as a spiritual person.

And I agree, the red V was very distracting. The people who make Lost put a lot of work into making the show look a certain way, just to have some marketing person splash red across the bottom of the screen.

Amy Lynn said...

@BarbaraJay... we didn't notice the V too much, as we watch on a 42 inch screen. I have read that people with normal size screen's couldn't even see what Sun was writing in the notebook, however. Who green lighted that?

Ginger said...

AL - yeah, I was watching on 42 inch screen & still didn't see what the last thing Sun wrote was because of the stupid red V. I think my MIL has her aspect ratio wrong or something. I'll have to figure out how to fix that in case of future crap in the corner ;-)

Ginger said...

When I Googled "The heart wants..." quote last night it came up w a lot of references to Woody Allen saying that about his affair w/his adopted daughter. Yuck!

Ginger said...

Ok, Just read the TIME Woody Allen article. Not actually his adopted daughter. Still...

Widmore said they would cease to be. I think that would be fhe same as cease to exist.

I've never thought the two time lines would merge and this makes it seems one of them will cease to exist.

i don't know why lostpedia says that widmore and hawkings ruled jointly on the island for 30 years. Richard told flocke and ben in" the incident" that there can only be ONE leader on the island at a time. I guess since we know that widmore survived jughead, a lot of his preknowledge of things came from daniel's journal that hawkings found after she killed him. Daniel also had knowledge of the o6 because flocke telling richard to tell locke to bring them back and he had to die. So that could explain how hawkings didn't know what was going to happen after ben shot desmond because daniel's journal had no info in it past that time. I figure that after widmore and hawkings figured out she killed her own son, she left the island with the journal out to change things or not.

Morning all,

Had mixed feelings on the episode.
Loved Jin seeing Ji Yeon.
Loved Sayid crazy look at Desmond on the docks.
Liked Mikail getting shot in the eye.

LOL when iliana said cause your speaking.

But i didnt buy the secret romance at all. Jin only got the job with Mr. Paik because of Sun. How would the son of a fisherman get to be the bodyguard for his daughter before they were married.

AL - said if sawyer said hes alone one more time... couldnt agree more.

what is sayid about to go threw that not feeling anything would be good. is he going to become the new smokey?

I also liked Jack and the tomatoe.

Well with all of that i guess i did like the episode..

Tess315 said...

Hey bigdog
The FS is completely separate from the island time line. Jin may not be a fisherman's son in the FS. And he didn't ask to marry her so he got his job in a different way.

I think what Sayid is going to be going through is the same thing everyone else is, a war. When MIB was marching them across the island to have Ben kill Jacob and the stopped to rest at the old beach camp, he said something like they would need the rest considering what was in store for them.

Amy Lynn said...

@SG, Darlton hs said the FS is NOT completely separate from the island storyline. Most of the details of a person's life are still the same. The way they got there might be vastly different.

In any case, I think we are 99% done with the FS.

Tess315 said...

Amy Lynn
When did Damon change his mind? I know he was upset with people calling the FS an alt universe and said it own separate time line.

But I will give you that Jin may still be a fisherman's son. I considered not putting that in my post.

But he most likely got his body guard job by some other means. Since he was an enforcer of sorts in the island time line.

Amy Lynn said...

@SG, it's not an alternate timeline, that's the point. It's NOT separate.

Tess315 said...

Well in my opinion it's not alternate and is separate.

BTW are you yelling at me when you say NOT or just stressing the word? Or both. ;)

Amy Lynn said...

haha, just stressing the world.

The official word on the FS are that they are not alternate or separate. They bleed into each other frequently, and will converge "very soon"

Much of this episode was a demonstration of communication gone afoul. LockeZilla promises Jin to Sun ,,without knowing Jin has been taken.. The more than excellent 25k dollars meant for Keamy being confiscated ,,eventually leading to Suns realization of how naive’ she is..one foul up in communication after another at all different levels outside and inside.. Even Widmore gets upset by it with Zoe and perhaps best put by Illana commenting on Bens repeated issue about not being believed as,,” because you opened your mouth”. The classic tho..is Suns body language displaying more truth as Jin kept saying..no,,no,,no. Nice Truth there soon to be married Ms Kim. The play seems to be about all the ways even what we say..what we communicate,,what we Think We Know..isn’t the case. Jack at end of episode making promise to Sun,,hit me as ,,oh no,,here we go again,,Jack making promises he can’t keep,,but what do I know?Perhaps this episode was about some fans ..?

How inside out surreal was it for us to learn that the money was for Keamy to kill Jin? And that we learn that truth from the creepiest thug in Lost. ..This episode’s Flash-sideways was a real reality smear..Suns beautiful body language to Sun with bullet in her body..Yea, it was Okay seeing Patchy reduced to one eye again…But,Suns sideways arc from innocent naïve high,, to tragic, real hurt is like the consequences of thinking you know everything: a pretense we all are guilty of sooner or later..Perhaps one of Lifes biggest Illusions we can foist on our selves.. Sure any one can pass a algebra/ calculus/trig test. That’s pure logic.,,,easy compared to the test of Life..How sad to see so much Failure in this episode. Like Sawyer said at the very beginning,,”just pretend”That “pretending”…has dire consequences…Be careful in what you Trust. The Money you have..mite be meant to kill you. Sun should have trusted her Love for Jin,,and gone with LockeZilla.

But, alas,we are left with Truth, Sayid,,well,,no longer painful Truth, but now,Cold Truth, having a look see on the rather bumbling Wid’ites and there is our man of the world, Desmond,,drugged getting a bit of fresh air. So some large scale Truth appears heading our way. In any case..something I know about my self..I really,,really hate the Charles Widmore character. May LockeZilla eventually have his way with Charles in some shape manner or form.

Some very good visual metaphors in this episode to help the viewer along. Sideways Kwons not married and Sayid splitting the wood in half..was a good segue. Of course, the very beginning, reality as seen thru infrared camera and Sawyers and Kates little conversation,,ending in “ Just pretend” sets the “ perception” dynamics to “different” rite at the start. Sun being chased by LockeZilla and thus learning by the school of hard knocks , while unfortunate, was good metaphorology…yea..mythology is one thing but metaphorology is where Lost is At…imho. Sayid as cold, unfeeling , brings a terrible but honest feel to the truth character. Not too sure what Kate sucking on a pepper(?) thing there was about, but it did catch my attention. Of course the whole loss of Engrish to Sun,,hhhmm head trauma,,perhaps a 3rd reality creeping in there..but the inability to communicate was made much of in both realities. Even the Dogma of Language is an encumbrance to Freedom..,,…..!!,,??...or at least…stood/BBing. Suns body language was quite the mother tongue.

With so few episodes left..can one sense the swirling coming together of all the sideways and Island arcs? The War on the island is easy..but what that transcends to in the sideways…I’m not too sure I’d want to be the doctor in the emergency room..Lots of conflicting decisions mite have to be made…but what do I know?

bigdog said...

SG - Our man sayid is always ready for a war. but a non-feeling sayid thats a whole other level of war, dont want to be on the opposite side of that.

I am only a half hour away from watching... EXCITED.

interesting that kelvin inman had such a role in desmond and sayid's backstorys. desmond was in the military too

I have t listened to the OLP for awhile or listened to or read any interviews, so I'll have to take your word on it. But for something to be able to bleed over into something else it has to be separte from it. As far as them converging I don't like that idea, but I guess it will depend on how they do it.

bigdog
Yes, I would stay away from a non feeling Sayid in a war.

ChrisL
Cool hope you like it.

Amy Lynn said...

@SG, yes, catch up on the OLP. Island and FS are not separate.

Also, another silly writing question - why did Mr. Paik send Sun and Jin all the way to Los Angeles, rather than just having one of his henchmen in Korea off Jin?

memphish said...

Plausible deniability.

Amy Lynn said...

Also, what was the purpose to calling Desmond "The Package". Is it because they fooled us so well with Kevin Johnson? LOL.

Sorry if I seem a little pessimistic. I'm just really dismayed with the sloppiness of this entire season, with the exception of The Substitute and Dr. Linus.

Capcom said...

Exactly Memphish.

I'm also getting tired I think of all the repeated events in this season, considering the amount of story-telling that we are in need of to wrap up the story in a few weeks. It's beginning to look a lot like a cryptic comicbook tale that doesn't finish with much of a fully fleshed out arc. I know, I'm being mean, but that's how this episode left me feeling. :-(

Capcom said...

BTW, what would be the physical model for two timelines or existences that are not separate? Did TPTB give a current scientific theory to compare with this? I'm having a hard time picturing that in my head. Two parallel timelines that veer and merge is easier to imagine, but I need something illustrative to help me understand this "not separate" idea of two existences, if someone who has heard or read about this can help. I myself have imagined it as a double helix where the two are bound and connected with each other and separate from everything else, but I'm not sure that what Amy mentioned can fit with that. Tx.

Tess315 said...

memphish
I aggree. It seems more like multi world theory or multiverse to me than anything else.

Tess315 said...

oops I meant to direct that at capcom not memphish. Although I agree with her too. :)

Capcom said...

Exactly SG, I just read what my friend Greg posted over at EyeMSick: it might be like the illustration for that (and string theory) where the strings of a guitar are close enough to resonate from each other's vibrations. They are still technically separate though, but maybe "on the same guitar" counts as not separate to TPTB.

memphish said...

The guitar idea is interesting. I still think the sideways world is what's happening as a result of choosing to act on Jacob or Smokey's behalf. It doesn't totally invalidate the previous 5 years because those 5 years inform how they act on Island and is therefore not alternate, but it does show the characters getting a form of do-over as a result of their choices and what I think will be their ultimate demise in service of the Island demi-gods.

I see it visually sort of like the way I saw the time travel where to use Sawyer for an example, say he's born in 1968 and lives until 2005 where his 2005 self now moves back to 1974. In 1974-77 there are 2 Sawyers, one aged young, one aged 30s. Age 30s Sawyer misses 2005-2007. I think 2007 Sawyer will die, but unlike for most of us, in doing so everything changes for 1968 Sawyer, almost creating a second 1968 Sawyer, but not really. Really the first one is gone and now the second one gets a do-over that includes having his parents for one extra (apparently morally important) year and then to a post-9/22/04 life off the Island. I guess in terms of the guitar analogy, it's more like the string is plucked, completely stops vibrating and is plucked again a little bit differently. (I don't play guitar. Can you tell?)

Capcom said...

Grr, I'll try posting this again.

Interesting Memphish. Especially the "first one is gone" etc, idea.

I'm rewatching and something just occurred to me. Those pylons on the beach are just sitting there on tripods. What's stopping Flocke from simply moving them?

Beverly said...

When Ben told richard that Locke wanted him to go to hydra island, why didn't Sun correct him and tell Richard that Locke said his people were at a camp on the other side of the island?

Beverly said...

Sun's father had her account closed and was paying Keamy $25000 to kill Jin. Is it possible that he's enough of a slezebag that not only would he send Jin to pay his own assassin, but did he use Sun's money to do it?

Beverly said...

There was a mirror reflection of Jin in the door of the refrigerator when he was being tied up by Keamy.

Beverly said...

Sayid didn't feel anything on the island and in the FS after shooting Keamy he seemed pretty unfeeling there too when he told Jin "I don't know why you're here and I don't really care." and instead of freeing him, he just gave him the knife and said "Good luck".

Tess315 said...

lostit
My guess on the pylons is the sonic energy prevents him from getting close enough to move them.

I wouldn't put it past Sun's father to do that.

I didn't catch the reflection of Jin in the refridgerator door. I was thinking he didn't have a mirror image.

Good point on Sayid. I'm actually wondering if Desmond might be able to save Sayid like Sayid did Desmond when he helped him make his call to Penny in The Constant. He seemed to show a small amount of emotion when he seen Desmond. There was someone on a podcast I listen to that asked the same thing.

Beverly said...

SG, I was thinking the same think about Desmond being able to save Sayid. There did seem to be a glimmer of feeling there when he saw him.

Tess315 said...

That's cool Lostit. Glad I'm wasn't the only one.

Colbert takes on the V countdown clock. Sorry but you have to see Letterman talk about it first, but he's brief.

My thoughts:

Sayid's brother is -in the hospital.

Jin is taking his girlfriend Sun - to the hospital.

Claire is maybe still at the hospital (at least I bounced in and out of hospitals the time they stopped my premature labor for some time)

A crime has been perpetrated and the suspects are at the hospital.

Sawyer and Miles are detectives who have just caught up to Kate.

Jack works at the hospital.

I am starting to get the idea that all these people may meet up. . . .

at the hospital.

Not to mention,

Locke is getting married and inviting his father.

He might also invite his co-workers - Ben and Arzt.

He might also invite the people who gave him his new job - Rose and Hugo.

Detective Ford is hunting down Locke's father.

I suspect that all these people may meet up at Locke's wedding.

That would allow them to merge all the stories together so that they could follow all the flash-sideways people without having to separate them into different episodes.

(I've decided just to follow the flash sideways for now - it's more fun to me than the island part. More like one of my hospital/crime dramas I like.)
