I read a random comment on another website that I found fascinating.

In (island) Jack's timeline, it's been a week (maybe a little more) since he told Kate they had to go back to the island.

That would be pretty close.
I haven't checked yet but from memeory. I know Hawking gave Ben 72 hours to get them back to the island, after he had got Jack but lost Reyes. I think it was the next day that Jack told Kate or at least she found out on the pier. Then the next day the got on flight 316.

Jacob died on their 5th day back on the island (this includes the time in Dharma) Current time would be their sixth day back. MIB had told Sawyer he had killed Jacob yesterday and as far as I know it's still the same day.
So that would make it 6 or 7 days give or take a day. Jacob may of died on the 4th day. It's really hard to tell given they way they jumped back and forth last season with Ajira and Dharma but it's close.

Edited: I'd said 7 or 8 days it should be 6 or 7.

I've got my caffine. There should be fewer mistakes and typos now, maybe. ;)

So, 6-7 days ago Sawyer was giving Juliet flowers and telling her how awesome she is?

I hate this show.

(but I'm addicted what can I do?)

I wish I had saved part of my re-watch for this time of the year... may watch tonight's S1 corresponding episode before the new one airs.

You know what's driving me crazy now that I've had time to think about last week's episode.

There are all those photos on the wall in Jack's ex-wife's house as he's dashing up the stairs and they kept them out of focus. . .so no hint whatsover. . .maddening. ;)

Tess315 said...

lost2010
lol Don't you hate it when they do that. :)

Happy Lost Day! Got my Dharma Glasses from ABCStore. I'm ready for some Dharma beer!

Figuring out how many actual days have passed is so confusing. Just have to keep realizing that not much time has gone by!

Amy Lynn said...

Lostpedia has really good timelines (just put "timeline" in their search box) that sort of collapses all the different storylines into where they fit day to day.

maven said...

I did check that Time Line on Lostpedia out earlier, Amy Lynn. It's well-done, but I still find it confusing. But thanks for suggesting it!

I would love, someday, for the guy who did that "real time/24 LOST" mash-up on YouTube with the crash and all to do more of them.

SG - It makes me wish it was one of those old 'adventure' games on the early pc's.

Stop on stairs.
Face left.
Look pictures.

Or was I the only one that used to play those.

maven said...

@Amy Lynn: At the PaleyFest Panel, Carlton was asked that question...whether a DVD will be done of the show in total chronological order. Carlton said that it wouldn't work...each time line does not really flow into another..they are meant to stand alone...and there are no official plans to do it.

Even if it's choppy and doesn't really work....I hope someone does take on this project in the future.

lost2010 said...

I wonder if they mean to aggravate the fans when they say things like that about the two timelines standing alone and being independent of each other.

So, I'm to watch this thinking of Jack Shephard-island as one character. And Jack X as an entirely different character whose lived an entirely different life.

If that's the case, then I'm starting to see why so many people are having trouble investing in the LA X storyline.

I just keep assuming that they're related in some way and that it'll tie together at some point, but if it really is two independent stories. . .then what exactly is the point of the LA X one.

I never played them but I know what you're talking about.

Lostpedia has a very good timeline but it's made by people like us and sometimes they make mistakes. They had it a little mixed up during season 4 but did fix it. I haven't looked at it lately.

That mashup on youtube was great.
Oooo They just showed a Lost promo with a few extra blips. Interesting, but worries me. :)

maven said...

@lost2010: I remember those early games...nothing but text....we used to draw out maps to see where we had been! LOL

Tess315 said...

lost2010
That appears what's going on in the two time lines. They're separate, similar to a many universe senario.
But this is Lost they can do whatever they want to the time lines. Even if it isn't scientifically plausible. :)

lost2010 said...

@maven - Yes, I remember making maps too! And lists. It was a lot like watching lost now that I think about it. :)

@SG - But do you personally think they'll intersect eventually? I keep thinking they have to or there wasn't much point in showing us the ALT.

Tess315 said...

lost2010
Acutally I haven't made up my mind on that one yet. Right now I'm think no the won't merge, but Jack will have to make a decision which one to live in. I know I always take the crazy train. lol

lost2010 said...

@SG - So you think it'll be similar to Desmond's situation in Catch 22. He'll have an opportunity to choose between living out his life in the happily-ever-after or going to the island to fulfill his destiny. But that would still be interacting - in that at some point Jack A becomes cognicent of Jack B on some level.

for 5 seasons the science vs faith debate fueled the show. Seemingly with the reveal of mib in last season finale and what appears to be the course this season. They have leaned towards faith being the answer, but i think that's a trick or ruse.

lost never is actually what it appears to be, so why would they start being straighfoward now. Ultimately i think the answer to science vs faith will be like the scale with black and white. The answer will be both in perfect balance.

If anything this season all the roles are reversed, i.e. jack is more about faith than he used to be. Mib, who is seemingly the embodiment of magic or faith, is the more scientific logical one. I.e. "it's just an island... there's nothing to protect it from" is jack's old stance.

I wonder if the negatively charged exotic matter under the orchid is now positively charged exotic matter in the sideways.

fringe and lost have a lot in common. One of the ideas on fringe is that the two dimensions are like snow globes and eventually one globe will destroy or replace the other. I think that sort of thing will resolve the flash sideways.

I'm starting to think they will swing more towards science to explain things like island, smokey, and jacob as the season goes on. Like the pendulum in the lamp post the balance has to be restored. Although Jacob and richard seemed like they dont age. Jacob was proved to be as mortal as the next man. As evidenced by his ghost being no different then say charlie's. I think part of the island's magic is tied to the special people that can time flash when the donkey wheel is moved. All of the known Active candidates all time flashed on the island. I have yet to resolve why illanna could still think frank may be a candidate even though he didn't flash.

2costa said...

Although richard during the time flashes didn't seem to hear or see the flashes, that was the richard from the past. When Ben first turned the wheel richard obviously reacted to the flash and may have even been a flasher. When richard says he has known ben for over 30 years, that is not to say that richard has been present in Ben's reality for every day of that thirty years. What if richard and jacob have been time flashing. If you had a friend that you saw once a month for 30 years you would consider them a 30 year friend, but what if they were only in your time/reality for one day a month. In your 30 years they would have only aged 360 days, thats one year they aged to your 30 yrs. Perhaps like astronauts, the candidates are weeded out for their propensity and durability for time flashing. Sawyer for instance didn't really suffer from too much timetravel nose bleed death, like charlotte.

hawkings said the island is always moving, we dont know if that means through time and space or both. Perhaps there is an inverse of the people time flashing through time on the island, where the island can actually time flash to other dimension/sidways or time periods.

carlton said at the beginning of the season in regards to the sunken island that, the foot is still there and new otherton is still there, so whatever that tells you. it always struck me as weird that he would refer to the barracks as new otherton. Because those names are contingent on time period, in 1977 when jughead incident happened they were known as the barracks. To me they were not dubbed nowotherton until sawyer and locke started living there around eggtown or maqybe when ben took the others to live there. So what if that is a clue. Maybe the island we saw underwater is the island we are seeing in 2007. Perhaps everything we are seeing is leading up to sinking the island. Maybe the mechanism to gas the island is part of a failsafe for that contingency. Just as the two dharma bunnies couldn't touch or dire circumstances, maybe the island can't be 2 places at once or the people on it. Maybe ben has been so brazen about killing everyone because he knows it's leading up to one reality replacing the other and the new jacob would be the last man standing from lost's first five seasons
. smokey wants to make sure nobody is left standing. Perhaps the jacob is sort of like the william bell of the timeline, where he is actually from the other reality.

Think of the possibility if the ben in the sideways is really the ben we have always known, he just killed or displaced the ben from the sideways. The possibilities are endless and would be juicy. This reminds me of the weirdness with the looking glass and ben telling the others it was underwater, maybe he can't keep his realities straight. I dont think Ben's line at the orchid "that he hasn't been there for 16 years" was no throw away line. Ben was involved with time travel/moving the island before. Perhaps the temple is a place where timeline refugees can be safe from the time flashes. I think its no coincidence that smokey wants to derail the temple because that is key to his plan to end the cycle or game.

They've got me a little confused on the time lines this time, and I love this stuff.

At first I thought it was conscious time travel when Des went back in time after turning the hatch key. There are similarities like Jack's deja vu. But it's not exactly the same so I've changed my mind. I'm going to post a theory on my blog later (which I'll probably change 10 times before the show ends) if you want to read it I'll send you a link.

lost2010 said...

@2costa - To clarify, you are firmly of the belief that Jacob is good and MIB is bad? Or not?

Tess315 said...

lost2010
will message it to you via FB later today sometime.

2costa said...

well personally i think they are gonna start to make us think mib is the good one then switch back to jacob by the end. I dont think good and bad are appropriate, i think jacob is white and mib is black.

just like the swan was a 2 man job i think the island is a 2 man job. In order to turn the donkey wheel you get spit out in tunesia, so you need someone to stay back on the island.

just as you need one person time jumping and one person not. I think mib is trying to get desmond and widmore and everyone else to the island to tie up loose ends before he destroys it or kills them all.

i wonder if where the lighthouse is set affects what time period you are tossed out into tunesia. Perhaps when ben turned it it was se t to jarrah and that why he popped out in a time where sayid was vunerable. lets not forget that ben went like 3 months into the future, where as locke went three years into the future. Everyone else on the show clocked 3 years in 1977 or 3years off the island, but locke lost 3 years. same point about richard, locke was technically 3 years younger then his birth certificate when widmore scooped him up in tunesia.

i think that as i said before, you may only be bound by the rules once you know them. Perhaps jacob's secrecy is geared towards giving the candidates more freedom not less. Once you know the rules like mib, you are bound"dont tell me what i can't do" young bloody arms kid...

perhaps smokey is binding them more and more to the rules the more he reveals to them. Just like a spy or a good con, you only let your assets know the minimum as to not affect their choices and or behavior. If someone were to tell you the definitive meaning of life,be it meaningless or not, it would affect how you live your life and hope and faith would be meaningless. So in a way smokey is just like some punk kid in kindergarten telling you santa is fake and your parents are full of lies... is that truth really posative? Just like someone that struggles with trying to do the right thing may just become bad if thet figure there's no point and no god or whatever...

there is no black without white, good is meaningless without evil. Dry is meaningless with no wet, so who is good or not is irrelevant. They are both good and both evil in different degrees. Jacob is just a man no magic. dont forget in a yin yang there is a spot of black in the white and vice versa. It's more of a question of who's vision for the losties is more satisfying to us the veiwer in the end...perception is relative

happy lost day.

Late congrats to Maven nice pics and great seats.

i picked up a whopping 5 points in LFL..woo hoo

lost2010 said...

Possibly.

Or possibly Jacob is like that kid that runs around the playground handing out lollipops so that all the kids are his friends.

And Smokey is his brother who gets to his backpack at snacktime and realizes that Jacob has given away all his lollipops. So he beats the crap out of Jacob and all the kids now hate him because he beat up their nice friend Jacob who gives them candy.

But really - Jacob had it coming.

Or not - I'm just playing devil's advocate.

2costa said...

agreed lost2010

sayid being the truth teller and supposedly being on the dark side fits with flocke always telling the truth. As much as maybe we could agree on the platonic ideal of truth, most of the time what people call truth is still relative.

lost2010 said...

I keep thinking it relates to the fact that in the Bible, Jacob was the deciever (sp?). . .but he still ended up with the birthright which was a righteous thing.

I think we'll learn that Jacob has been deceiving them. . .but that his ultimate goal is good.

I also wonder if touching is going to be important - if whatever sort of creatures Jacob and MIB are - maybe if they touch someone they're giving that person power over them.

And Jacob has been touching people all along and trusting them to do right. But MIB doesn't touch someone unless he's decided to kill them. So his touching Sawyer was sort of an act of faith on his part - he's putting all his eggs in this one basket now. And in the end, maybe it'll have to be Sawyer that slays the MIB.

Hi all- don't have much to add at present but I'm looking forward to tonight. As I said on ARGS- have been without power since Thursday due to storms- got it back yesterday and had a wonderful shower- felt like John in the rain!

Happy Lost day!

JT - Glad you're back! I know there was some ridicule of Damon's 'Water' clue yesterday but but I find poetry in the 'Water' from your storm making you 'Watts' 'Err' and cutting you off. Also, just yesterday, I was having a discussion with a friend about my own disconnection from the broadband community earlier this year, and they said that broadband was 'like water..you just expect it to be there'. No real point to my ramblings...just a feeling of symmetry :)
