Happy Birthday Melissa Lossa and Catty Girl!

So I'm rewatching The Lie and as I watch Mrs Hawking scribble it occurs to me that she or someone must have been scribbling similarly before 815 left Sydney. We know the psychic insisted Claire must be on that flight, so I wonder who was acting like Ben and Jill and Eloise and the other people Jill mentioned to get everyone on 815, or did only Claire actually matter since she's the only one we saw put on THAT flight.

Oh it's so fun to come up with crazy ideas.

memphish said...

So now I have another idea. I wonder if there was some group of people who flashed off 815 in an attempt to return to the Island while our Losties crashed in present day 2004 the same way our Losties flashed while 316 crashed.

Beverly said...

I feellike an idiot because I don't remember who Jill is. Memphish, can you refresh my memory?

Interesting idea about some from flight 815 possibly flashing before the crash.

memphish said...

Jill is the butcher who puts Locke on ice in LA. She and 2 other people are clearly on Team Ben and amazingly seem informed of his plans unlike any other Others.

maven said...

Glad I checked in here! It's beginning to seem like old times with all the old gang! :)

I don't know if others flashed off of 815 or not, but I kind of think the only purpose for the flight was to get our Losties in the right place at the right time.

And, most likely, there were other people working for Ben (like Jill) who probably pushed our Losties in the right direction from behind the scenes.

memphish said...

I think it might overly complicate things ;-) if people did flash in 2004, but when Jack looks back into coach and sees all the people on 316 it made me think of it. That plus the fact that those who didn't flash including Jacob and MIB were able to use those who didn't flash. Also the numbers of people reported dead on 815 didn't come anywhere close to the number of B-O-D-E-S we saw when 815 first crashed.

I got through episode 7 of Season 5 yesterday, thus all my posting. Hopefully I'll get through the rest of S5 this week or so. Then I plan to rewatch Season 1 before 6 starts. Looking forward to the talk!

Capcom said...

Cindy could have been one of the other people who returned on 815 perhaps. When she said to Jack, "It's complicated," trying to explain to him about time skipping, FDW's, flying planes through coordinates, and all of that, would certainly fit that description. Even WE didn't know how complicated it was going to get at that point, heheh!

Tess315 said...

I always love the theories here. I tend to agree with maven. I don't think anyone flashed off 815. I think the flight was to get the Lostie to the island.

Tess315 said...

I've alway thought Cindy was an other. She disappeared to easily. Her explanations never jived with me and she always seemed to eager to agree with Ana Lucia.

Capcom said...

815 definitely seemed for the benefit of getting the Losties there, but some Others could still have tagged along for the ride like Ben did on 316, if they knew that it was the fate of the flight. And in that case, especially if flight 815 was as planned and puposeful as 316 was. There seems to have been hints in the early days that some people on the flight were conspiratorial in nature, e.g. Cindy, the pilot, etc., but who knows if it was all for real or just red herrings.

memphish said...

It's interesting to me that Jacob and MIB are only seemingly involved with those who arrive on a present timeline, i.e. our Losties from 815 and those who crash in 2007 on 316. We haven't seen them interact in any form with those who flashed from 316 and only with Locke in terms of the 815 flashies just before he leaves the Island.

I'm really interested in all these off Island actors though like Abaddon and his encounter with wheelchair Locke only to have him turn up working for Widmore. Same with Jill and the others Ben had keeping an eye on the O6. And also of course with the psychic, Malkin, who basically got both Claire and Eko on 815.

The other thing that occurred to me during my rewatch is that we're watching the same struggle play out in concentric rings of knowledge, so we have Jack and Locke duking it out at the level of this Island is mysterious and powerful, but what is it really. Then we have Ben and Widmore as we take a step back. Then we have Jacob and the MIB a step beyond that. I've seen or heard some people predict that the ending will be Locke and Jack taking Jacob and the MIB's place on the Island. I could easily see that.

Capcom said...

Wow, like escalating concentric rings of conflict, good observation.

Gee, it's nice to be able to theorize with you all again and get away from the gimmee-gimmee atmosphere of the poster/swag portion of the hiatus. Whew.

Melissa_Lossa said...

We're about halfway through season 3 on our re-watch - hubby and I had some marathon sessions over the holiday break! Nothing cures a New Year's hangover like Lost. :)

This time around, I'm struck by how everyone gets on the plane. Jack and Ana Lucia are both there directly as a result of Christian. Claire and Eko because of the psychic. Sayid because of his dead friend. Boone because of Shannon. Kate because of the Marshall and Sawyer because of the cops. Many people are PUT on that plane - other people buy their tickets for them.

I was also really intrigued by that psychic this time around, as I realized that at the EXACT same time as he's calling Claire at all hours of the night and arranging her trip to LA, he is telling Eko that he a fraud. Interesting.

I agree that Cindy is suspicious - she jumps on the "Nathan wasn't on the plane" bandwagon a little too fast. And she disappears so close to the Losties' camp, when up until that point, we haven't seen any Others travel that far, other than Ethan. Nathan also doesn't help his case at all, by acting so sneaky!

memphish - I like your idea about the levels of the struggle.

And thanks for the birthday wishes, everyone! I'm 30 now! *gulp*

Tess315 said...

It does seem that circumstances were manipulated to get each of our Losties on flight 815.

If anyone on flight 815 got on the plane knowing they were going back to the island they would have been Others as capcom said. Otherwise they would have been part of the story. I think the flash happened because they didn't get everyone one to go back to the island. Hawking said the outcome would be unpredictable if everyone didn't go back. Again as in the case of flight 815 circumstances seemed to manipulated for flight 316. They weren't as successful with flight 316 though.

Capcom
I have to agree with you. It's much nicer theorizing than reading people's complaints about the print sale. Now that the artists are selling what they have it's going to start again.

For the life of me I still can't figure out who's on who's side. For example Christain says he can speak for Jacob but he's responsible for getting Locke off the island presumably for MIB.

But of course that is the intent of Lost.

memphish said...

Isn't that the nice thing. 5 years. I don't know how many times I've watched this thing and I still don't know who is on whose side and who to root for either. :-)

Have y'all seen Fishbiscuit's analysis of the Last Supper picture? It goes a little over the top, as usual, but I really, really wish what she says about Kate, her finally having some pivotal and potentially evil role might in fact happen. The more I rewatch Kate the more I dislike her and dislike Jack and Sawyer for liking her. When she tells Jack on Penny's boat that she's always been with him I just want to ask her what drugs she's tripping on.

Tess315 said...

I have to say Kate isn't my favorite character either, but I don't think I dislike her as much as you. :)
I seen Jensen had tweeted he liked her analysis. I haven't looked at it yet. I should do that now.

Beverly said...

One thing that really stood out for me about the Lost Last Supper picture was the absence of Juliet. I guess that means that she really did die when the bomb blew up?

maven said...

Such a please to come here and actually THINK!

The Last Supper analysis by Fishbiscuit was insightful and thorough. Interesting Ilana was included and some of the grouping were surprising...like Sun standing away from Jin, and Sawyer leaning on Kate. I tried to avoid looking at this since some casting spoilers might be there, but I gave in. Having Claire there says a lot, as well as Juliet not being there.

maven said...

I saw that, too, Sayid's girl. They seem to all be looking at the camera in that version.

Capcom said...

Nice thoughts everyone. I'll have to read FB's and Jensen's analysis.

Up to now I haven't put too much thought into the promo collages and what they mean (except for Daniel's missing leg!), but recently I wondered about Jacob who's been talked about since the first "great man" mention (or, MIB if that's the case) and about how the actor never got his pic on a promo, and can't even now since he's dead, heheh. I guess they decided to leave out MIB also.

The last supper concept has been used too much for TV shows by now, the TV peeps need to find another idea to use for their final season promotion.

It would be good if Kate finally got some true redemption and not just the kind that makes her use someone's kid as a security blanket. It was good that she took care of Aaron and all, but TPTB made her run...again...and leave him behind. Great that he went to grandma though.

Melissa_Lossa said...

capcom, I kind of agree - the BSG last supper was cool, and this seems like a knock-off.

It's a nice image, though - and no missing appendages, that I can see!

And even though Juliet is not here, she IS in just about every promo I've seen.

memphish said...

There's a different character's whose absence I think is more interesting. (Trying to be vague.) There's been official words by Darlton and Liz Mitchell on Juliet if you want to look for them. It's so hard to avoid casting things. Still I think cast status is misleading at best.

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - don't tease like that! I think I know who you mean, though, and I agree. Interesting.

I think ABC is overall trying to be a little sneakier this year, which I actually like. Last year, they listed all of the freighter people in their official press release as series regulars - except Charlotte. And bang, there went Charlotte. I'm hoping they've learned this season to keep things under wraps a little better.

Capcom said...

OK, now you've made me go back and take a second look. :o) I wonder if the fact that Sayid is there means something good for him? Or at least that it will take him a few episodes to *gulp* die from his wounds.

Yes, casting can surely be misleading on this show, it could be a five minute flashback with [insert dead person] in it, and not mean that the person is not really dead, or is coming back to the present.

The LS thing was done for the Sopranos as well.

memphish said...

The Last Supper things been done a ton as Fishbiscuit well documented. My favorite is from the movie version of Mash. I do love the BSG one too.

Capcom said...

MASH did it too? Yikes, that concept is like a well done steak. :o) I'll go read that FB article.

Tess315 said...

Hey Capcom
Sayid can't die.:)
The fact that Sayid is in the Judas position annoys me a little. I just don't see Sayid betraying someone. But I guess he might Locke. But which Locke? If it's MIB I guess that would be ok. Unless MIB is the good guy. ahhh lol.

Anyone catch the shout-out to LOST fans on Scrubs tonight? They were talking about how med students will do anything get an edge up over the others. One guy has LOST stickers all over his laptop. Just before a test another guy pretended he was talking on the phone with someone who told him that LOST was canceled and the final episode would never air. Now THAT would be distracting!

Capcom said...

Yeah he can't die, Sayid's MacGuyver after all. :o)

Oh gosh, that's funny Lostit. That would be a bad dream for sure.

maven said...

I don't watch Scrubs, but got the heads up over at LostArgs. The guy with the laptop decorated with Lost stickers was absolutely frantic/panicked thinking that the show was canceled. Pretty funny!

Not to worry anyone...and no date has been determined yet....But people are tweeting a #NoStateoftheUnionFeb2 topic! A nightmare scenario! Apparently, Pres. Obama is awaiting a decision on a date until the health bill is passed. It's traditionally held in Jan.

memphish said...

Obama should consider himself on notice from me that if he interrupts LOST, especially the premier I will hold it against him in 2012. I have a long memory.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Last we heard at the station here is that State of the Union is most likely going to be 1/26. But we never know for sure until the week before or so.

Last time he did a press conference on a Lost night, he wrapped up promptly at 9 - maybe he's a fan. :)

memphish said...

But they're planning all 3 hours for Lost on the premier. I'm semi-joking, but only semi. I've waited since May; I want my LOST. I buy LOST on DVD but I've never bought a State of the Union address and don't plan to start now.

Tess315 said...

Politics is over rated. Give me my LOST. lol

Melissa_Lossa said...

I'm hoping he's a fan, and won't want to pre-empt it either! :)

Capcom said...

Aw bloody heck, that would be terrible.

maven said...

This would just be so awful...about 11 million Lost fans will instantly hate his speech! I don't think they want that many angry people! Traditionally the speech is in January, but I read that he doesn't want to present the speech until the Health Care Bill is passed.

memphish said...

Well if he and his people are as web savvy as they appear to be they'll wise up and have that sucker before LOST comes back, or better yet, they'll move it to pre-empt American Idol. I can only imagine the amount of outraged creativity that would be unleashed on the internet should he choose 2/2. Like this.

memphish said...

On a different topic, let's plan to take word verification off the blog with the premier. Hopefully we have broken the spammers will.

memphish said...

Weird. It worked earlier. Do you know if it was only from the Blu-ray or if you can find it at ABC.com? I have to say I'm not a fan of Lost University since I don't own a Blu-ray player and refuse to buy one just for this.

Tess315 said...

memphish
You can't view it from ABC.com unless you're register to LU.
I tried emailing a link to one to my sister and it wouldn't allow the link.

I don't blame you for resisting getting a blu-ray for this, it really isn't worth the cost. Is kind of fun though. I bought my blu-ray through OVC they had it on sale and I could make payments so I thought what the hey.
It would be much nicer if I had a HD tv though. lol The text is blurry and a little hard to read. Picture is good though.

memphish said...

Thanks for the info. Sayid's Girl. I guess it's essentially the same level of "canon" as things shown at Comic Con -- sort of kind of canon unless we change our minds. :-)

Tess315 said...

Supposedly there are Season 6 teasers/spoilers hidden in LU. But I haven't seen anything yet.

Also the last print that was part of The Lost Underground Art Project/ DamonCarltonandaPolarBear.com is suppose to have 2 clues/hints about season six one has been confirmed. I'm not sure what it means but I won't post it here.

memphish said...

I'm trying very hard to not speculate about Season 6. I did a lot of self-speculating between S2 and S3 and then was disappointed when the writers went somewhere other than the 1000 other places I had been in my mind. I'm excited to see what the story-tellers have. I trust Damon and to a slightly lesser degree Carlton to deliver on their vision and I just have to hope I enjoy where it takes me.

Tess315 said...

I like to think up theory after theory. In season one before I found all of you guys I was certain it was all a government project gone wrong. :) I don't know where they're going with Lost but I'm fairly confident I'll like the ending.

I'm trying very hard to stay completely spoiler free this season. Last year I looked at every picture and video I could find and it kind of spoiled it a little for me.
So far so good except knowing the title of the first episode which was revealed at the begining of the print viral marketing. And seeing a pic of a new character but I don't know anything about the charcter.

Capcom said...

I registered and have a student card on the LU site, but haven't looked to see if you can actually do something there, for those without Blu-ray. I should check it out this weekend and see.

Capcom said...

I'm trying not to get too much into the spec-conversations myself, as well. I get disappointed if they do what we guess, and then I'm feeling all, "Meh, we guessed that." :-(

I'm still ticked off at TPTB for showing the freckage during the hiatus, that would have been a pretty cool thing on the show. So non-Argers got surprised, and Argers got spoiled more or less. Boohoo.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Anybody else see that they're replaying "The Incident" on 1/26?

memphish said...

I replayed The Incident yesterday. :-) Made me cry like a baby. The more I reflect on it, the more I think the 815ers caused the Incident that results in their crash in 2004 and the white light is a flash taking them back to 2007 though I guess they'll be at the crater and Sun et al will be at the foot.

I was watching the deleted scenes and there's one with Flocke and Sun at Dharmaville about why Locke didn't visit Jin. Locke said it was because he promised Jin he wouldn't bring her back. I think that may be why she failed to flash. You know how people on the Island are about their promises - a promise made is a promise kept, so Sun didn't get brought "back" to 1977. I figure we'll never really know why, so I think this is as good a reason as any, and better than Mrs. Hawking's "unpredictable result" explanation.

Tess315 said...

memphish
In thta deleted scene Flocke also said because the promise was broken he was responsible for Sun while she was on the island. (I think that's the proper wording)

Also Happy Birthday to Thrasher76 and Big Dog!

memphish said...

I think he even said responsible for her safety or some such thing.

So after my whole I'm convinced it didn't work thing I just rewatched Pilot part 1 and now I'm leaning toward a time loop. (I am so malleable!) The thing that has me leaning is a) how immediately comfortable Jack and Kate are with one another from their scene when she sows him up and at the cockpit; also how she's only concerned with his well being when being chased by the monster b) Kate talks about Charlie being familiar on the walk to the cockpit and they play it off to his Drive Shaft status and then c) later in S1 Sawyer tells Kate they have a connection which at the time we all write off to Sawyer's con man suaveness. But now, in hindsight, I wonder if the way these people interact especially right after the crash in the Pilot is an indication of some of the effect many are speculating will occur in a time loop where there are residual memories of one another lingering in their consciousnesses.

Ramblings of a Lost addict!

Tess315 said...

It's good to read your rambles again memphish. It's been one wild ride at LostARGs for the past 5 months. I'm ready for some calm and and some Lost ramblings. :)

Tess315 said...

See, I'm stuttering. lol Strike one of those ands.

memphish said...

I had another idea from the Pilot as well. In The Incident we see Jacob touch Jack and Kate. I wonder if this is why Smokey goes after the pilot instead of them and in fact seems to give up chasing Jack. Of course pulling Locke down the hole at the end of S1 flies in the face of this theory. But if MIB is Smokey I wonder if Jacob's touch provides some sort of Island immunity that puts the characters "in play" so to speak in terms of who or what can take them out.

Again I don't know how to reconcile this with Locke other than maybe there's a sort of "invite it in" vampire style exception that negates Jacob's touch.

Along those lines you'd have to think that Danielle got touched by Jacob at some point in her Frenchy life to have survived on the Island as long as she did.

TakesaVillage said...

A Happy Lost Birthday to Thrasher76,& Bigdog; It's the 18th already?

Melissa_Lossa said...

Here's a thought I've had during the re-watch (three episodes in the season 5! almost there!): How long has Ben been following the Man in Black, rather than Jacob?

Just think about all of the things that happen to Ben, all of which are designed to make him mad at Jacob: he gets a tumor, his daughter is killed, he is forced to move/leave the island, Locke hears Jacob when Ben does not, etc. Is this actually the Man in Black? Or is Ben getting mad part of Jacob's plan - because Jacob could have talked Ben out of killing him, but instead chooses to push him over the edge with his "what about you?" comment.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Also, I never really caught that when Dan reads the note about Desmond being his Constant, he seems to snap back into focus. Maybe I'm dense, but I had always thought that Dan's note about "if things go bad" referred to things going bad later - when in fact, they had already gone bad at the time he read the note. Re-watching these episodes, I really noticed how much more alert and focused Dan is after that scene - the stuttering is all but gone, and he seems to suddenly remember things he didn't before. When he's trying to get Miles and Charlotte to leave the island during the Secondary Protocol, he is completely sure about what he is doing.

memphish said...

ML - re Ben and Jacob - what I gathered in my rewatch was that Ben as leader was getting notes from Jacob brought to him by Alpert but whenever he asked to see Jacob he was told he needed to wait, a message I think that was also sent by Jacob.

As for MIB I think when Ben took Locke to the cabin he just thought it was Horace's abandoned cabin and he was pulling a con on Locke talking to an empty chair. He didn't know that Jacob had trapped the MIB in the cabin, so when the stuff started flying he had no idea what exactly was happening. MIB took advantage of Ben and Locke to up the enmity between them. Maybe MIB even wanted Locke to die at that point so he could become F-Locke. I'm still very unclear who Taller Ghost Walt was representing.

As for Daniel, in The Variable both Widmore and Eloise tell Daniel repeatedly that the Island will heal his scrambled brains, so while the idea that the Desmond is my constant thing anchors him and from there on he's well is cool but it also may just be the Island healing him. He does definitely get better the longer he stays on the Island. The deleted scene from The Variable (which is really just a longer version of the scene that aired) is very interesting. A lot of the ideas Daniel spells out for Jack and Kate were spelled out by Darlton in an OLP, so I think they are a very good delineation of what TPTB were trying to get across to us in that episode vis a vis whether or not the future can be changed.

It's so much fun to talk LOST!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Do you think it's possible that Ben and Locke set MIB free during their little visit to the cabin?

I was also wondering about this - when Locke tells Richard to tell him (Locke) that he has to die in order to bring everyone back and save the island, he is already FLocke. So... does the MIB need Locke's dead body for some reason? If so, if HE the one that's been using the dead bodies, not Smokey? Has MIB been Christian, Yemi, etc? And to what end?

Melissa_Lossa said...

And the more I watch these, the more I'm convinced that Charles Widmore has some sort of secret agenda involving Desmond's status as wild card. He is just WAY too helpful to a guy he supposedly dislikes so much. And in Jughead, when he gives Des Hawking's address, he seems a lot more civil, and even supportive of Des.

I've missed crazy speculation!

After S5 I now kind of take CS as saying, "I speak for Jacob...not! Mwahaha!"

I like the idea that Ben's spoofing Locke went as far as taking him to some random cabin and saying it's Jacob's, and then getting spoofed himself by not knowing what was in there. Now the question remains...was it Horace and his wife who put those creepy jars of red liquid in the cabin?!

I'm also thinking that Wid's supposed hatred of Des was merely a way to guide Des' steps toward the island, etc. It sure seems as if, "Operation: Disgrace Des and take away Penny" was all meant to cause the despair that would drive Des where they wanted him to be. Especially considering the marriage detour that Bro Campbell caused via the short stay in the monestary..."OK my job is done, get the heck out of here and go with this girl who's father will lead you to the island."

Just had to pop in here to be comment #108! :)

Widmore's belittling Des could have been knowing what was in store with Desmond and trying to keep his daughter safe.

Mo Ryan interviews Darlton No spoilers.

I'm in the homestretch of my rewatch. I did it mirror theory style where I started with S3, then S4, then S2 then S5 and now I'm through White Rabbit in S1.

I don't think Locke became Flocke in Walkabout, but I do wonder if that's when MIB said "aha, I've finally found the patsy I want." I also really don't get the whole Christian thing in White Rabbit. Was it MIB at least when he led Jack over the cliff? Why would he lead Jack to water? If he wants to get rid of everyone on the Island why not let them continue to duke it out on the beach? I'm so confused!

Hey ML and other Dark Tower fans, there's a website devoted to comparing Dark Tower and LOST. I haven't read any of it yet, but I may check it out. There are Dark Tower spoilers for those of you who are still planning to read the series which you definitely should do.

Melissa_Lossa said...

New interview with Michael Emerson over at Spoiler Fixed

Thanks for the link, memphish - I'll have to check it out! I was just wondering the other day if the characters in season 6 were going to be suffering the same way Jake did in The Wastelands, before they brought him back. And I've also had at least a suspicion that the end of Lost would be similar to the end of DT.

memphish said...

I was just thinking yesterday ML that what Juliet did at the end of S5 might be the same as the ending of Dark Tower.

Melissa_Lossa said...

So, here's something that never occurred to me until we re-watched 316 last night. Were Jack, Kate and Sun trying to recreate the 815 flight as much as possible, down to the clothes they were wearing? It seems that Ms. Hawking just says that it has to be as many of the same people as possible - Locke is the only one that she suggests should have something of Christian's.

Because it seems like those three at least could have been a little better prepared. Jack's wearing a suit for crying out loud! I'd be in my most durable and comfortable jeans, sneakers or boots, layers of t-shirts, something. They have no idea what they're going back to. For that matter, I'd have a duffel bag stuffed with bottled water, power bars and medical supplies and I would hold on to it for dear life when the plane started shaking.

Sayid gets a pass because he didn't know he was coming back, and Hurley is the most sensibly dressed, but really, Jack - fill your pockets with ace bandages or something.

Kate even mentions this when she sees Jack with Christian's shoes. She tells Jack that they don't seem appropriate for the island - maybe hiking boots would be better. Then she shows up at the airport in a tailored jacket and pants.

Seems odd that no one would plan ahead at all.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Exactly, memphish! And if that's the case, what is going to be the Horn of Eld? What's the missing element been?

memphish said...

The guitar case?

Melissa_Lossa said...

Yeah - I had forgotten about the guitar case until last night! We never did find out what was in there, did we?

I was just checking out that link, and I was reminded also about the role of obsession in DT. Maybe that's what Jacob's visits were about - letting go of obsessions.

memphish said...

Didn't work too well for Jack then did it? :-)

I'm still not sure how to reconcile that version of the counting to 5 story we see in The Incident vs. the one Jack relates in the Pilot. Wishful thinking? Self-selected editing? Unreliable narrator? Or a time loop?

Melissa_Lossa said...

My guess is self-editing. The story isn't cool enough to impress the girl if you include the part about you panicking and your daddy having to calm you down.

And yeah, Jack's always going to be obsessed with fixing things. I'm hoping that Jacob's intervention at least got him to cut his dad some slack. Maybe it'll stop him from snapping at the AA meeting, which I think at least indirectly leads to Christian's death.

Tess315 said...

Melissa
I never thought about their attire. But they certainly not dressed in island wear are they? Especially Jack.

memphish
The whole count to five story annoys me too. I still think about the different Sun and Jin wedding pics you posted last season too. I'm going with time loop or, and I hate to say it alternate universe. I don't think it was him trying to be cool for Kate, but I could be wrong.

The guitar case is a complete mystery. Is what's in it something Jacob will need? Or something Hurey will need. Could it just have a guitar in or even empty?

memphish said...

Those wedding clothing changes still bug me too. It bugged me that no one but me seemed to notice them. ;-p Thanks for remembering Sayid's Girl.

I can see Jack coming to believe the story the way he told it to Kate, not to impress her, but because that's the way he had later convinced himself it had really happened. It had to have occurred 5-7 years before the crash.

Solitary has to be the solitary most frustrating episode of LOST. First Sayid tells Danielle that Nadia is dead and it's his fault and then later he says he hopes that she's not dead. Danielle strongly implies that the Others gave her people the sickness on the way back from the Black Rock, but we never saw her encounter anyone else other than Ben when he took Alex. And she denies ever having seen him.

One interesting thing did stand out in cuckoo Danielle's story though. She says that her team became infected one by one. I almost wonder if Smokey/MIB/who knows what was killing them one by one and then inhabiting their bodies a la Yemi and Christian and Locke. I'm not sure exactly how that would work. Maybe one would disappear and then reappear "different." Oh well, I'm not sure we're ever going to get clear answers about Danielle.

There's also an unresolved mystery from the episode that I'd like resolved -- did Jack make the putt? Come on Darlton, at least answer that one!

Melissa_Lossa said...

I never understood why Sayid says that Nadia is dead in that episode, either. We see later in that season that she's not, and he KNOWS she's not. The only thing that I can think of is that the writer's changed their mind.

And we saw in season 5 that Danielle's entire team went into Smokey's lair at the same time - plus, she must kill them all at the same time. I can't imagine "Robert" letting her live after she's already killed the other two. Unless she just starts to notice them changing one by one. But to what end?

Capcom said...

Thanks for the links!

That's a really good point about the lack of the 316ers being prepared to crash or whatever on the island. Our stupid Losties, they never learn. How can they get redemption in their lives if they can't even remember what it's like to crash on a mysterious island?

:o)

memphish said...

They announced before the election that the State of the Union is Jan 27. It won't even effect the rerun of The Incident on 1/26. I'm still not sure how I feel about LOST on Tuesday. It works for me because I don't watch much on Tuesday, but it still feels odd.

Tess315 said...

I know Tuesday seems odd to me too. It I guess 'll get use to it. Any day with Lost is a good day.

I know what you mean LostARGs has turned into a nicer EB forum. I'd rather talk Lost too.

Also I see what you mean about typing on the iphone my last post doesn't even make since. I'm home now, somewhat better typing. :)

Wow - 11 days? Hard to believe!

Any requests for posts while we're waiting? Anyone want to see some new promotional photos up on the home page?

Tess315 said...

Are they of new characters? I know there is at least one new character, I accidently seen a pic of one. Are there anymore than one?

I don't know what the pupose of the new character is. I told myself I was going to go 100% spolier free this season, but I getting a little eager. :)

Melissa_Lossa said...

I haven't see any promotional photos of a new character - just the old standbys, as well as Frank, Richard and Ilana.

I'm trying to stay as spoiler-free as possible, but it's hard!

Tess315 said...

I seen the new character via a video recorded at an event for the poster hunt at LostARGs. The only thing I know about it is that it's a new character.

I wouldn't mind seeing some new pictures of the old gang. Oh I've heard about some casting news too,but nothing surprising. Oh yeah and of course the title of the first episode. That was another nice surprise via LostARGs.

Ah well not too bad so far. :)

Season 5, The Incident -- What lies in the shadow of the statue? Answer - He that will save us all.

Season 1, Hearts and Minds -- Charlie to Jack:"if there's one person on this island I would put my absolute faith in to save us all it would be John Locke."

Hmmmm.

Tess315 said...

Very nice catch memphish.

Cast pictures are always nice. I just know a very teeny tiny something about the new character (nationality). I only have to stay spoiler-free until a week from tomorrow! :)

Tess315 said...

Have fun maven. I'm so jealous. :)

memphish said...

I'm fearful I'm going to have to stay completely off the internet after 1/30. Have a great trip Maven!

Now back to theory mode. I guess it's ambiguous as to whether or not Flocke is up and about on Hydra Island when Sun and Frank talk to Christian, isn't it? I was going to try to concoct some theory about Christian in the suit being MIB and Christian in the casual wear, the one that led Claire away being Jacob or at least not MIB.

Claire's disappearance in S4-S5 is very similar to her disappearance in S1 and I was going to try to tie in her "goodness" so professed by Malkin to something, but I just can't quite work it all out. I think what's the deal with Claire may be at the top of my S6 mystery list.

Just Thinking said...

Hi All- I hope you maybe have room for one more? I have met some of you over at the ARGS site, and heard it might be OK to drop in for some spoiler -free discussion.

I'm currently in the cold New England woods, where my kids and husband are mostly tolerating my Lost obsession. One son went to the Boston Johnny Cupcakes poster event for me and another helps keep the PS3 going so I can do Lost University.

Anyway- I had to say the peanut butter sandwich link just made me laugh- so thanks for that

Tess315 said...

Hi Just Thinking.
Nice to see you here.

Just Thinking said...

Hi SG, thanks.

I have been thinking about how the characters might develop from now on-if that is still going to be important in S6. I am worried about a lot of them reaching "the end of their song" as they would say on Dr. Who. Sayid, Sawyer, Penny & Des, Kate- they all have had a bit of "happy time", but they may be a sacrifice the story demands. I think it would be just wrong to have Hurley end badly though, I want him at the end to smile an say "Dude!".

maven said...

Hi, Just Thinking...so happy you made the journey over here! This is THE place to discuss away on LOST!

I agree the ideal ending would have everyone get the redemption and happiness they have long deserved. But, in reality, life sometimes doesn't work like that and would probably not make a very dramatic statement.

(BTW: Word Verification will be ending shortly...right ML?)

Tess315 said...

I know, I can't imagine season 6 ending without the loss of some characters. Especally with a war eminent.

The island is presumably not finished with Desmnond. But is this still the case after the bomb detonation? I don't know what circumstances would make Desomond leave Penny for the island.

Assuming Juliet is dead. I think that will put Sawyer in a tail spin. We may get the Sawyer that shot an unarmed Tom in the chest.

Kate she's not to many people's favorite character but she may surprise us in the end.
Sayid, hmmm. I'd hate to see Sayid die without redemption. But I'm bias. :)
Hurley, I don't think the writers are brave enough to do him in. But I could be wrong.

Tess315 said...

Yeah hopefully that spammer is long gone and not lurking out there waiting for the WV to disappear.

memphish said...

I have never understood why Jin is so prudish about Sun's appearance in S1 when in their flashbacks she's often dressed very revealingly.

Just Thinking said...

Maybe Jin thinks they are among strangers-so is more careful among the "others"? (Sorry for all the "!)

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay - tomorrow, I'm going to put up a new post with some new cast photos, in case anybody wants to watch the encore of The Incident live. And no WV!

Has anyone heard if they are going to do pop-ups during The Incident?

memphish said...

Part 2 of Mo Ryan's really long Darlton interview with no spoilers.

Tess315 said...

Hello LoCo's
Thanks for the link memphish.
I was just sitting here thinking. It's kind of funny that Locke and Boone spent all that time digging up the hatch and trying to open it when the "backdoor" as Sawyer called it is only about a 100 yards away.

memphish said...

Locke was so short-sighted during that period Sayid's Girl that if he'd found the backdoor he probably would have still attempted to blow the hatch. A definite can't see the forest for the trees time in his life. (And I know because I just finished rewatching Deus Ex Machina.)

I'd really like an explanation for Locke's legs in that episode. Not sure I'll get one though.
