ANNOUNCEMENT

Last night on American Idol, the first commercial ran for JJ Abrams' new TV show - FRINGE. The new show will begin August 26, and is sort of a cross between X-File, House, and Alias. There also already talk of a new ARG that may have already started! For more info, check out FringeTV.blogspot.com

It looks pretty good based on the trailers I've seen so far. I'm pretty excited about it. I mentioned this in the post, but there is supposed to be an ARG for the show, which may have already started... I'll let you all know when the ball starts rolling!

Memphish said... Here's one I have a question about from Cabin Fever: The sickness the captain speaks of was caused by the freighter's close proximity to the island. Why are people near the Island getting sick, but people ON the Island not?

The freighter is 90 miles off the coast. So let's say for arguments sake that the electrical storm is 80 miles off the coast of the island. That makes the boat only 10 miles from the storm (too close), but the island is a safe 80 miles away.

That's a nice theory about distance from the barrier Dennis. I'm not sure how it applies to Danielle's crew though. Or Desmond who was sailing out near the boundary presumably for 2 weeks. I think we're looking at some sickness anomolies which I wish TPTB would not include, but which I fear they have for the sake of drama.

So who's going to start the Fringe ARG blog?

So the Fringe game is already going? Where do you start exactly?

I think there are easy explanations for all that.

Danielle's crew contracted the sickness traveling TO the island, like Minkowski and Brandon. Since the sickness doesn't affect everyone the same, Danielle was less crazy that the rest of her crew (but still crazy!)

With Desmond, it's basically the same excuse. The sickness doesn't affect everyone. The only reason Desmond got sick later, was because he was exposed to high-levels of radiation.

So who's going to start the Fringe ARG blog?

Well, I'll be co-blogging at FringeTV.blogspot.com, and we'll have an ARG section soon, and eventually an episode discussion section. I'd like to turn it into the DarkUFO/Lost Community of the FRINGE world.

We may need some help with the ARG section, if anyone is interested let me know.

That's a good question. nobody knows yet. If you figure it out, let me know :)

memphish said...

I can buy that I guess Dennis. But I'd still like more than "different people, different outcomes" especially when we didn't see people on the freighter have high radioactive/electromagnetic exposure.

The Fringe sight looks good Dennis. Got it added to my Google reader.

maybe there's less of an effect on people closer to the event horizen. MUch like most stuff right around the the center of a nuclear explosion is spared.

I thought it was interesting that on the cabin fever commentary, they broke it down that, that emily scene was 1955'ish, emily is 16 and cooper or whoever locke's dad is twice her age, so it seems they are pointing out that its a stretch to think cooper in 80 in 2004.

I thought that locke and sawyer seem to have simuliar backgroounds in that they really have no ties to the outside world. Had john actually been adopted, he might have grown attached to his adoptive family. I wonder if the dog that replaced his foster sister(when she died) was there for locke like a vincent for walt.

I think i said it before, i think there a version of the cabin that moves astrally, ben had it trapped in the ash circle for a time, but the cabin that locke went to in cabin fever, was the actuall temporal version on the cabin, i say this because it is clearly marked on the map and probably doesnt move. I always wondered why Ben made it like hug had to come to find it but, it was because they needed something to lure jack and sawyer to the orchid. They never would have gone there for locke or ben.

I thought it was interesting that christain told locke not to mention that he saw claire to anyone.

That comic richard put out for locke was eerily simuliar to the one walt was reading about an island in a bubble or whatever

I sure hope Fringe is good, and that if it is it stays around. Fox has a tendency to give shows the ax pretty quickly, especially expensive hour-longs.

The J.J. Abrams connection is a plus for the show. I'm a bit nervous, though, that Fringe's other big claim to fame (at least according to last night's commercial) is that it's being written by the guys responsible for Transformers.

I have a feeling I'll be saving myself for Lost's return in '09.

Erich said... I sure hope Fringe is good, and that if it is it stays around.

Me too.

BTW, I forgot to mention that FRINGE co-stars Lance Riddick (aka Matthew Abbadon!), and Kirk Acevedo, who shares a last name with me but is otherwise not related. A side note, Kirk Acevedo co-starred in The Black Donnellys with Michael-Stahl David, who was Rob in Cloverfield.

BTW, I found this "handy dandy guide" to Season 4 by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse:

Dennis: I'm sure you'll be our Fringe go-to guy! If there's an ARG, I'm there!

BTW: I'm finally working on a LOST quilt! It's awesome so far. I've downloaded over 100 images from Lostpedia and Lost-Media and printed them on fabric. I'm kinda doing a collage thing with character and LOST moments! I'll be posting pics as soon as it's presentable!

Did you actually watch either those shows, or are you just slamming them because they are "chick" shows? I happened to like Felicity, What About Brian, and Six Degrees. FYI, Felicity lasted four seasons, and won an Emmy and a Golden Globe.

lost2010 said...

I wish you hadn't reminded me of Six Degrees. I kept hanging in there waiting for it to get better. . .to the bitter end.

what is the next book for the book club?

I think someone here mentioned that in the "rescue" picture of the O6 Jack is wearing a different shirt than the one he was wearing on Island in the episode. The Get Lost Podcast pointed out that the shirt Jack is wearing is similar to Michael's shirt in the episode. Sorry I couldn't find a better shot of Michael's shirt.

memphish said...

I think the reason Jack didn't want to be around Aaron until after the trial was he was afraid Kate would get sent up to the big house for goodsies and he would be left to raise Aaron. And he knew, without Hurley having to tell him, that he's not supposed to raise Aaron.

2costa said...

i watched them and did not like them very much. Alias was good, but i put lost on another level from other shows, it's a once in a career show. Even Alias never inspired me to blog or research. I really can't imagine a felicity ARG or discussing it. I like lance riddick, but I just cant get into other shows like lost. Even out of my favorite shows like burn notice, the shield, sopranos, or whatever i never got as wrapped up as I am in lost. I'm not looking to replace LOst for after 2010, I think of it like a loved one that has passed, i'll treasure the memories, but i'm not running out to get a new grandma

p.s. the jj abrams brand doesnt sway me on its own, lost didnt hit its real stride for me til he put damon and carlton in charge of the reins. If anything a future show that might fill the void for lost will be a damon or carlton joint. Unlike a lot of people season one was my least favorite, i liked the interactons of the characters, but to do that vibe over and over, would have made lost a glorified gilligans island

Maven,
I can't wait to see how your Lost quilt is coming along.
I know it will be a masterpiece.

2costa said...

i was watching some ww2 show and found this lost tie in...

Central Works (German: Mittelwerk) was the underground WWII rocket and aircraft factory in Germany that was operated by the government Central Works Ltd. (German: Mittelwerk GmbH) company. Additional wartime plans for V-2 rocket production at the Southern Works near Friedrichshafen and Eastern Works near Riga were never fulfilled.[2] Mittelwerk GmbH also headed V-2 rocket development sites at Schlier (Project Zement) and Lehesten

I have heard that the place to start the ARG is
holomove.com
My crappy computer only gets a grey screen though, so I don't know if it is true.

If anyone gets anything else from it, let me know.

Dennis said...

You might need to update your flash, or change browsers. It's very webbish.

memphish said...

Holomove could be part of a game. It's a pretty fancy website and it has puzzles and contact info. on it. It also has annoying music like the Hanso website.

memphish said...

Some guys have gotten the comic book Alpert showed Locke and started a blog about it.

memphish said...

Doc Arzt has written a book. Maybe he'll stop begging for money on his website now.

Passafist said...

Memphish,

Is sent a comment to those guys hoping that maybe I could get them to come on the podcast and then I saw a link on the bottom of the page that links to the old Oceanic-air.com page! Hmmmm.... could a new ARG be starting???

WORD UP!

David

maven said...

Is that Holomove site related to Fringe? Or is some other ARG?

Nice spoiler-free article on LOST in the new Time magazine. Discusses how the end-date has revitalized the show and may signal a new way for networks to run their shows.

maven said...

Thanks, Kyle, for the heads-up on the Time article. Here's the link to that article.

maven said...

There's also a new Doc Jensen up. Nothing spoilery...more interesting theories!

memphish said...

New Doc J. There's no tease. He does ask Darlton about the Indian Ocean locale of the wreck and O6. They give him a no answer answer and say when we might get an answer. That's as spoilery as it gets. I'm just thankful someone has finally gotten to ask the question even if TPTB didn't answer it.

Interesting fan issue over on Dark.

VOTE BEN

memphish said...

I've been following that voting Kyle. The Robin Hood people are clearly rigging the vote, and have been since the first round. The voting system is in no way secure. It's let me vote more than once without me having to do anything like clear my cache or cookies. I'm sure if I wanted to I could vote repeatedly just by doing that.

Unknown said...

But, as someone said, we're the good guys.

lost2010 said...

If you complete the survey at holomove, they e-mail you a user name and password. Not that I found anywhere to enter it.

Obviously, I am not smart enough to work for them because the puzzle is completely beyond me. . .

Back when "meet kevin johnson" was on I pointed out that the white smoke around mike's crash seemed very strange, almost a white version of the black smoke. COnceptually a white smoke to be paired with the black smoke would make sense, like the chess pieces or backgammon. If you rewatch the episode where jack sees his dad in the hospital and subsequently gets sedatives from the doctor, youll notice that there is a puff of white smoke around the smoke detector. I think it has to be related, smoking is prohibited in hospitals and once jack turned it off there was no fire. SO where did the white smoke come from???comments? Maybe theres is balck smoke on the island and white smoke outside the island, or maybe both. When locke had his horace dream there was white smoke billowing off of the embers of the fire, symbolism?

Ben seemed to blow out white smoke when he landed in tunesia, but that was probably frost related to his journey or the parka...

Capcom said...

Some people have claimed that they've seen white smoke around the island as well, 2costa.

BTW, Nicoleslost's blog posted a montage of the FFs in chronological order with LOST background music. It's a bit choppy and does not include every scene, but it's a nice effort, and every scene would have made it really long anyway. As-is, it's over 8 min.

i agree capcom, maybe widmore controls the white and ben controls the black smoke

from the non-spoiler preview it sure seems like sawyer is on the chopper and then kisses kate on the chopper, so it would seem the "he chose to stay" on the chopper, wonder if he is gonna jump off to lighten the load.

Episode 47 - Bonus Fun

Capcom said...

That's what I was wondering, 2costa. Of course, he's already made his feelings known about staying, so maybe he just jumps on the chopper quick to kiss her goodbye.

lost2010 said...

It would be very dramatic though to have him dive out of the helicopter into the ocean. That's sort of what I'm hoping for. I figure he's a pretty good swimmer. . . he'd still make it.

Alternately, I have this ridiculous theory that it would be tremendous fun if Sawyer ends up haunting future Kate - preferably with lots of snarky one-liners about Jack while Jack's sitting in the room.

2costa said...

i was thinking it would be funny if sawyer was actually on the phone with kate when jack came home, maybe he kept one of the sat phones...

lost2010 said...

That would be pretty good. Kate's a secret assasin being directed not by Ben but by Sawyer. Maybe they're working counter to Sayid and Ben. . .

memphish said...

I hope everyone has had a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend. We've often speculated about Daniel Faraday and his tie. We're watching Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade and I noticed Indy has a similar skinny tie. Maybe that's the look Daniel is going for. ;-)
