Reposted from previous post:
FYI: UnitedHollywood has a post by Carlton Cuse in a letter to the WGA. In it he dispels any disunity amongst the showrunners...saying he went to work on LOST as a producer to work on the remaining episodes for the fans. But now, to show the AMPTP that the showrunners mean business after the "negotiations" last week, he will no longer work on LOST in that capacity.

Update: Geez, the comments for this post at UnitedHollywood are really hostile to Carlton!

I like this idea of comments for Turn of the Screw. We can do a podcast with David when his life calms down a bit.

You should post a link to your bullet points on The Turn of the Screw. You always have such good insights.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, everyone -

Here are the "official" discussion questions for the book:

1) This question is stolen directly from Ange at Lost Bullet Points (we love you, Ange!): The governess’ journey to the house is very similar to Juliet’s journey to the island. Are they similar in other ways, in their eagerness to please and their slow realization that things are not what they appear?

2) In two different episodes of the show, Turn of the Screw is mentioned as being the hiding place for the Swan film. Is the Swan film then perhaps as misleading as the book – at the end of the book, we are left to assume that the ghosts are all in the governess’ head. Are there elements to the Swan film that are not real?

3) In the story, the governess becomes obsessed with the idea that she most protect the children from these ghosts. Is this similar to Locke, Jack or even Ben – all of whom believe that they are doing what is best for their people?

4) The more that the governess tries to protect the children, the more she begins to believe that the ghosts want to do them harm and that the children themselves are part of the evil. Is this paranoia similar to Ben’s, who has begun to believe that some of his followers are out to get him?

5) We are left at the end of the book with the idea that the ghosts may or may not be real. How does this fit in with the visions/ghosts that the Losties have seen? In the book, Miles is killed either by the spirit or by the governess – if that is the end result, does it matter whether the ghosts are real or not?

And definitely check out Ange's Bullet Points as well. She always gets it right!

maven said...

Thanks to Melissa for such great questions (and to Ange, too)!

1. I can see a lot of similarities between the Governess' journey to the house and Juliet's journey to the island. They both set out with such good intentions and hope for the future. They both are in a place that they seem to not be able to get away from. They both are prisoners. Both of them have been "wooed" away from the lives they knew. They have come thinking they would be doing some good...for the Governess it's helping the children...for Juliet it's continuing her research and helping children, too. And the locations begin to play with their heads. With the Governess, is the semi-isolation playing tricks with her? With Juliet, Ben is the one playing tricks with her.

(More later)

memphish said...

To chime in with Maven. It's not just Ben playing tricks on Juliet; it is isolation there as well. Isolation that she agreed to when she signed on. Juliet knew going in that she would have no contact with her sister for 6 months.

I know we've talked about Stockholm Syndrome in relation to Jack's interactions with Juliet. Juliet is the more likely person with Stockholm Syndrome I guess. Looks like in Missing Moment #5 though that she finally woke up after toying with waking up off and on in her flashback.

The other person on Island who looks explicitly like the Governess at this point is Cindy. She literally has care of the boy and girl the Others have taken.

Tess315 said...

I agree, the two are very similar. The governess was charmingly manipulated into something she wasn't sure she wanted to do. Same with Juilet I don't think she initally wanted to do research for them. The two of them felt the need to do what they did maybe as a way of fulfilment to have meaning in their lives.
But once they agreed it was a very different thing. They had responsiblities they didn't expect. And neither knew how to handle those responsiblities well.

Tess315 said...

2. I'd say absolutely the Swam film is misleading.
I think it was intended to be.Not to mention are we sure there aren't anymore missing pieces out there. (We'll probably never know since it blew up) I don't think any thing in the films or on the island is as it seems to be. You never know if you are being tested or being watched.

memphish said...

There's definitely more to the Swan than the film reveals. I was rewatching Live Together, Die Alone today and in that episode alone we learn tons more about the naturally occuring electromagnetism, a leak, discharging a pulse, the failsafe key, how to get to the failsafe key. There were probably a set of manuals in the Swan at some point like there was in the Flame too such as one for food drop protocol. I hope we get to see via flashback, missing moment or maybe a plan to restock and reman by the freighter people that will fill in the giant holes left by the Swan's film.

maven said...

2. I always wonder why a particular book is placed or mentioned in a particular episode. There must be some connection with the "Turn of the Screw" being the hiding place for the Swan film. With the book being about ghosts and what is real or isn't real, it does get you wondering about the "authenticity" of the Swan film. Or, like a lot of things on this island (as in the house in the book) things are an illusion. The Swan film was not a typical instruction film and it was very ambiguous. (Memphish is probably right: There must have been a detailed manual somewhere in that station.)

Ange said...

You guys are way too kind. You know it had been so long since I made that bullet post I had to re-read it.

sayid'sgirl said...I'd say absolutely the Swam film is misleading. I think it was intended to be... I don't think any thing in the films or on the island is as it seems to be. You never know if you are being tested or being watched.

Well, the idiom, a turn of the screw means: an action which makes a bad situation worse, especially in order to force someone to do something.

So maybe we're not just looking for flat out comparisons to the book, but also meaning in the idiom. The Losties being stranded is certainly a bad situation, and it seems that every piece of the DHARMA puzzle that they find makes things worse (leading to kidnappings, mass exodus, torture, death, etc.)with no real progress toward an answer.

The Swan film illustrates bad to worse within the island structure as well by alluding to security precautions and the incident. All misleading...certainly, but it also might be designed to instill fear and or curiosity about the island.

Plus the island (or someone behind the scenes) seems to force people into sticky situations where they do things that they wouldn't normally do (kill, hunt, run, survive, hook up with each other...). So the island and what's going on there (as of season 1 when we saw the book) is one big turn of the screw.

Also, memphish, great thought about Cindy. You know, I always forget about her, but you're right it seems her duty is to protect the little boy and girl. I wonder if they'll need protection from things that may or may not be there?
(More on Melissa's GREAT questions later.)

Twinkle said...

Hey, all! Thanks for your warm hellos on the other post. I haven't read any of the books but reading in on your conversation here really sucks me in! :-D I've missed Lost and conspiracy theorizing!

Like ange said, the phrase "A Turn of the Screw" seems to symbolize a lot about Lost, all the way up to Jack's contacting the freighter that's not Penny's. At least that's how I'm assuming that situation turns out.

Anyway, about the other stuff, catching up on the personal side and all that, I've made a post at SOTL if you want to chat. That leaves this post to be focused more on your contemplations of hidden meanings.

maven said...

3. Ben might be helping create certain situations for the Losties probably thinking he's doing something good for his people. We do know he's a master manipulator. He believes what he is doing is for the good of the island and his people. He definitely thought whatever the Dharma people were doing was bad for the island and eliminated them in the Purge (getting back at Dad in the process). The Governess could be manipulating the ghosts in her mind's eye in order to seem to be the savior of the children. Therefore, both Ben and the Governess could be looked at as the heroes to the island and the children.

maven said...

Ange: I like your analysis of the idiom of the phrase "turn of the screw". I believe it did originally come from the use of torture (turning the screw one more turn to get someone to confess, etc.) It would refer to getting someone to do something, which would imply that you would be in charge of the situation. Ben is seemingly in charge of the situation on the island, manipulating people left and right, turning the screw, to do his bidding.

Placing that book by the Swan film, would fit also with this definition of the title. The film was manipulating people to do something...making them think that if they didn't there would be dire consequences. I guess it would be a form of torture (look what Locke went through pushing that button).

Amused2bHere said...

I also begin my musings on our reading list choices with the "why this book, why this episode" questions. Thanks for your explanation of the phrase "turn of the screw", Ange. If we take it at face value, then putting the persuasive film there is a good choice. The film is effective at getting the button pushed. And it turns the screw a bit by making it a matter of life and death!

As far as the Governess' ghostly visions, I never doubted throughout the book that she really saw them. Her descriptions to the housekeeper were too detailed and accurate, recognized by Mrs. Grose--and there was no way for her to know what Quint and Jessel looked like. Is it possible that they appeared only to the Governess? I'd say yes, maybe because she was of a "sensitive" nature. Like Walt could appear to Shannon but not everyone else. If that was the case then of course the Governess would appear mad.

Ben hears Jacob. He might even see him. Does anyone else? He was very upset that Locke heard Jacob. I hope we find out next season.

My big question for this book is how Miles died at the end. Of fright? Of ghostly cause? Did Governess smother him by mistake while trying to protect him, or did she reach forward and break his neck?

TakesaVillage said...

Hi everyone.Happy Hanukkah, and welcome back all you ghosts of TLC past.
Along the line of Miles'fate;Ben was the protector of his people. At the end of season 3,after all his warnings of things seen and unseen,he is unable to stop what he believes to be the death of them all.

Capcom said...

Heheh, now I understand when in the movies a mob guys says that, "We'll turn the screws on him!" that it means they will force someone to do something.

I love this blog and you'se guys! :-D

Amused2bHere said...

For anyone who wants to join in the discussion but hasn't read the book, just go to Sparksnotes.com and read the overview here.
Then come back and jump right in!

Takes a village, I like your point about Ben and Miles. Although the governess tried to save the children, one was "rescued" and the other one died. Creepy similarity to Lost, eh?

I wish we knew more about the nature of Jacob and his interactions with the Others. Is Ben the only one who has seen him? Juliet seemed to have a high opinion of him, Tom and Pickett respected his list. I want to know why...Jacob, to me, is a lot like the absent uncle of Flora and Miles. He's there, but not physically. He's talked about, his authority carries weight, but he is not to be "bothered" with the news from Bly. In this way, the governess is like Ben: put in a position to care for the people, perhaps the overall estate, and not to trouble the master with details.

They each failed miserably.

FYSB said...

Just a quick note on the strike....I was reading Nikki Finke's page and she posted an email from Carlton clarifying the work he had done finishing up the Lost eps. These two comments to his post made me laugh:

"I expected that letter to answer one question and then present six more, like his show does."

and

"Doesn’t Oprah somehow have the power to end this whole thing? Can someone make a call?"

Amused2bHere said...

LOL

what's Oprah's number?

maven said...

This is something I posted a while ago on Ange's Bullet Points:
Ben as Miles: Is he good or is he bad. His boarding school thought he was bad, and he doesn't seem able to fit into a normal society. He keeps getting sent back home. Ben also seems to not "fit in", and has created his own world. Is it a good world or a bad one?

Ange said...

amused2bhere said...Jacob, to me, is a lot like the absent uncle of Flora and Miles. He's there, but not physically. He's talked about, his authority carries weight, but he is not to be "bothered" with the news from Bly.

I like this comparison very much A2BH. It got me thinking, The Uncle sort of inherited the kids...maybe Jacob inherited his control over...well whatever he's in control of, from someone else. Maybe he has to care about what goes on on the island because he is required to, but doesn't really want to. "Help Me," he says to Locke. Does he need help with his charges or maybe help getting rid of them.

Maven, agreed that Ben and Miles don't really fit in anywhere. That made me also remember that Miles tried to be bad at one point to shock the governess. I think Ben does a lot of things for the shock and awe factor as well (Locke having to kill his dad in front of everyone, Juliet's branding, The whole "We're here to watch" thing, etc...).

Happy Birthday Dennis (one day late)!!! Wasn't it nice of ABC to release the S3 DVD's in honor of your birthday?! Hope you did lots of celebrating.

Ok over on DarkUFO the (unconfirmed) news/rumor is that ABC might only release 6 of the 8 episodes that they have in the can, and/or that they might not air LOST until April, next Fall, OR until the strike has ended. It's easier for you guys to go there and read about it than for me to try to explain it here. This strike is really starting to stress me out!

memphish said...

We should hopefully know more about LOST today when ABC releases it's winter lineup. They've canned Big Shots at 10 pm on Thursdays and are putting Private Practice reruns there for now. This could free up either Wednesdays at 9 or Thursdays at 10 for LOST. Of course, with the strike I guess every scripted time slot is pretty much available.

FYSB said...

For those in need of a chuckle in these dark writer's strike days, check out this fake AMPTP website
Fake AMPTP Site

It was built by a couple of writers who often show up on VH1's Best Week Ever.

FYSB: I read that the other day. It was very funny indeed!

Things are really heating up over at UnitedHollywood regarding the Reality/Animation writers issue. I sincerely hope they stand united. These writers deserve the same benefits of the WGA writers. If they walked out, too, the AMPTP would be in big trouble if American Idol and other reality shows got struck.

I can't remember where I read it, but a few weeks back when I was looking around for strike news I thought I read that Lost would start up on Feb. 4th which is a Monday. I've been racking my brain to remember where it was. But I can't and since my memory is not that great I could be remembering the date wrong.

scoutpost
I read that over at DarkUFO. I don't know if I want to watch the six shows and end where the story arc is suppose to end. Or go ahead and watch episodes 7 and 8 which starts the new arc. Actually either one won't be that great if we have to wait till the fall or next spring to finish up the season.

So I got my Season 3 DVD set today. It's a big change for me because I've watched Lost:

Seasons 1 and 2- Through iTunes, in reasonably high but not great quality video

Season 3- On a smallish TV or Tivo'd (windows media center) on my computer. Both low quality.

So it feels like quite a change, watching really high quality video (displays well fullscreen on my monitor).

Ah, it's good to be back to watching Lost.

Oh, and Mondays? Please, no. I want to watch Lost *live*, dangit!

Hey - the Golden Globe nominees were just announced, and there was not a single nod to Lost! Tragic!

On the upside, however, Pushing Daisies was nominated for Best Comedy/Musical and both Lee Pace and Anna Friel were nominated. I LOVE this show!!

Capcom said...

Sayidsgirl, apparently the "6" means something else that's very spoilerish. If you don't want to be spoiled, forget that you ever saw the six. :o)

Scoutpost said...

Yes...forget about the six. It is important, but to know what it means is spoilerish.

I heard a long time ago that LOST was not eligible for Golden Globe nominations because it had not aired this season. That in order for a show to qualify for nominations that it had to have aired by October or something. Don't know the specifics or how accurate that info is, but I was not expecting any LOST nominations because of that. Stinks though because LOST really is such a good show and has some really talented people associated with it...and since we were snubbed at the Emmys. I mean I have watched Grey's Anatomy several times, and I just don't see what the big deal is.

Hope your daughter gets better soon, Sayid's girl.

I believe the Thursday timeslot might be temporary. I'm sure Grey's Anatomy owns that timeslot when it get back with new episodes after the strike. ABC is just trying to fill in as much as it can with new material during the strike. They say they're trying to keep us fans happy, but according to what I've read, DL and CC would have liked to hold off airing just the 8.

But I think ABC is afraid if they don't give the fans at least a little something they will lose them altogether if they wait any longer.

Ben and Ralph of the Dharmalars plus Jay from Jay and Jack have put together a "Tricia Tanaka is Dead" commentary WITH Jorge Garcia. You can get it from their site, from iTunes by searching for Dharmalars or from the Lost Podcasting Network.

They are explicit tagged and will tend to use blue language so be forewarned. Still given that the DVD set only had 4 commentaries, you might want to add this one to your watching/listening schedule as well.

Happy Monday, LoCos! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Hey Dennis, I grabbed the widget and posted it on my facebook page. I can't seem to get it to work on myspace yet, but give me time...

The trailer looks awesome. It's more than the one we first saw in theaters.

Sayid's girl: glad to hear your little girl is on the mend. No fun to have a sick kid, but it's great when you nurse them back to health.

Memphish, thanks for the links. I love Jay and Jack, so thanks especially for the language advisory...I'll make sure to use earphones when I listen to them!

Just read "Of Mice And Men" over the weekend. Although I'd seen the movie (many versions), I don't think I'd ever read the book. Quite an eye opener, I must say.

Dennis said...

Thanks Amused2bHere!

memphish said...

In case you don't have the Blu-Rays, but still want to know what's in the Access Granted feature here is a link to a summary of them. I found it on DarkUFO's spoiler page, but I don't consider them spoilers since it's on the S3 DVDs. There are some very interesting things. This link will keep you from hitting other spoilers.

This link shows you the actual video of the feature on The Blast Door Map. I've posted a comment about putting these Blu-Ray features somewhere other than spoilers so I won't get spoiled for S4 looking for S3 DVD info. If that happens, I'll let you all know.

If you do want to get teased about S4, there is a new, minute-long trailer here. I caught the tail end of one on Monday Night Football last night as well. I think it was the shorter version though and it included the Jan. 31 premier date.

Capcom said...

Memphish, you're looking at Dark's spoiler page? I'm shocked!! :o)

Thanks for the links.

memphish said...

I went looking for the latest Missing Moment because I forgot to look at Hubby's phone last night. I was trying very, very hard not to see anything I didn't want to see Capcom. Luckily for me, I didn't.

memphish said...

But that S4 trailer is awesome! I'm counting down to 1/31!

maven said...

Hey, Memphish: Thanks for scrolling through the spoiler section for us! It's so hard too do that (I've tried) without catching a spoilery word or two!

That S4 promo is so AWESOME (sorry to use the same adjective, but it's the only one that will do! LOL).

Scoutpost said...

Wow! That trailer is really awesome...or maybe I'm just starved for LOST. Can't wait for 1/31/08!

Scoutpost said...

Heh! I actually made that comment a while ago and stepped away from the computer before I hit "publish"! Now I'm just saying the same exact thing as everyone else! LOL

Ok how about a new adjective:
Wow! That trailer is absolutely amazing!

memphish said...

It's LOST-acular! So now that LOST is going to be on Thrusday does Wednesday became "The day formerly known as LOSTday" (or Lostnesday) and Thursday becomes "LOSTday?"

Darkaardvark said...

Man, I just saw that trailer on TV and was just coming to post to say the same thing as everyone else. I'd say (like you guys suggested) that perhaps I'm just starved for Lost, but I've been watching an episode or more a day since I got the S3 DVD so that can't be it. That trailer was definitely awesome.

***Spoilers from trailer***
Ben says "Every *living* person on this island will die" Uhm, he seemed to put a lot of emphasis on the word 'living.' Zombie season already?

Those heli shots look like they'll be *beautiful*

...I'd forgotten how excited I was for S4. Bring it on, annoying midseason cliffhanger or not.

maven said...

The next mobisode is up at DarkUFO spoiler section. It's called "Artz & Craft". Kinda similar to the Frogurt one...not much content.

Ange said...

Agreed Maven. After the Room 23 mobisode I was a little let down.

As for the trailer, was there a big pile of lemons and limes in there?

memphish said...does Wednesday became "The day formerly known as LOSTday"
Hehehe Happy "The day formerly known as LOSTday" everyone!

TakesaVillage said...

What ever we call it,it will be a wonderful day.(Lost du jour)

Amused2bHere said...

You realize this makes us only 44 days away from LOST?

EEK!

Scoutpost said...

44 days! Ooh maybe I should make some kind of "advent" calendar for LOST. You know, the kids have one for Christmas, I could have one for LOST premieres.

Oh I can't wait to get into deep LOST discussions with you guys again. I miss them. I saw my old LOST group last weekend, and they are so boring and uninteresting to talk to about the show. They barely know the character's names.

maven said...

Morning all!

44 days and counting! Yea!

I have a feeling that the Thursdays @ 9 slot is only temporary. When the strike is over and Grey's has new episodes, they'll get their old slot back. Time will only tell what will happen after the 8 episodes are aired.

memphish said...

So what window did you open on your advent calendar today Scoutpost? A polar bear? Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack? We could always use Dedjezter's clay items to populate the calendar.

maven said...

FYI everyone: Ange's analysis of "Of Mice and Men" is up on The Lost Bullet Points blog. Another use for the adjective "awesome"!

maven said...

Also, FYI: EW's List of the Best TV Episodes of 2007..."Through the Looking Glass".

Another FYI: SAG awards announced. The only LOST nomination:

Hey Chucklez!
Good to hear from you.
Hope you have a nice Christmas and New Years.

Tess315 said...

I was looking at those pics this morning. Noticed there's isn't a Walt pic there. Also Rose and Bernard but there are very few pics of them.

Zort70 said...

Good news that Lost will be back soon, bad news that it will only be 8 episodes long !

Completely off topic but does anyone have any tips for New Years Eve in New York ? My wife and I are going to be there, and then go down to Miami for a few days and a short cruise.

memphish said...

Have a great trip Zort. Good luck with the crowds.

Tess315 said...

I don't have any tips for you but it sounds like fun hope you have a good time.

Tess315 said...

Since the weekend and the holidays are coming up there probably won't be much traffic on here. So I wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy new year. Maven I hope you enjoyed the Hanukkah season.

maven said...

So nice to hear from you Chucklez! Sounds like you're hanging in there. Hope you get to spend the holidays with your kids.

Sayid's girl: Thanks. We did have a great Hanukkah. Now I get to spend Christmas with my daughter-in-law's side of the family (I get to enjoy everything!)

Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year's. At least our new year includes 8 episodes of LOST for sure!

Capcom said...

Hey Chucklez, hope that all is going well!

I think that promo photos always look corny. But they do provide nice material to use on our blog pictures! :-) And why does poor Hurley have a big splotch of what looks like spagetti sauce on the front of his shirt?????? Everyone else is nice and clean, I'm sure that they are not clean in Season 4, so why does Hurley get the mess? We'll have to ask Jorge on his blog about that.

Unknown said...

you know.....i'm not one for beating a dead horse.....oh who am i kidding? yes i am.

i said it way back when they left the island, that michael and walt went to a THIRD "holding" island!!!! And i stand by that!!! Michael looks awfully clean-cut in the promo pic. And i'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say that it's NOT for a "flash-forward"!!!

3rd island people!! Nostra-Dan-us has spoken!!

heehee.....

p.s. PUR-GA-TOR-Y!!!! (sorry.....had to add that)

memphish said...

Nice post Dan.

Tess315 said...

capcom
I thought the same thing about Hurley's shirt when I first saw it. But when I looked closer I think it's just some kind of design on that side of the shirt.

Tess315 said...

I just went and looked at the shirt again. I'm not sure but I think it's a different picture. The angle seems to be different where you can see the design better. Or maybe my eyes were just still asleep this morning.

maven said...

Hurley's shirt was the only one with a design on it (or logo). Everyone else is plain with no pattern or writing on it. Okay, guys, what does THAT mean? Speculate away! LOL

TakesaVillage said...

Chucklez3,great to hear from you again.
Glad to hear you haven't given up on your theories.Gary Troup lives.
Maven, you've got the best of both worlds.

Haha Sayidsgirl!!! That's funny about Hurley's shirt. Whatever it is they need to edit it out, it looks gross. :o)

Merry Christmas everyone! Have a great holiday weekend! XO-infinity!

Black Swan said...

P.S.

memphish said...

I thought it meant he had a stylist on the set that day. ;-)

maven said...

Happy Holiday weekend everyone! Last chance to shop! LOL

DarkUFO has a video up that's a synopsis of LOST so far. It's pretty good and tells about everything that's happened very concisely! (You need to scroll below the latest location contest.)

memphish said...

That video sort of makes you wonder if you really need to have spent the last 3+ years following LOST since it only takes 8 minutes (yes 8) to catch you up. (Of course if you only watch that video you won't get the significance of 8, so I guess it was worth the 3+ years.)

Amused2bHere said...

Merry Christmas everyone!

Chucklez, it was great to see you here again.

Off to see Darkufo...

Melissa_Lossa said...

Also FYI a Christmas Eve gift, Dark UFO has the latest V-cast up (#8).

memphish said...

Thanks for the Missing Piece reminder Ange. Sun's wig in Pieces #7 and #8 are destined for the LOST Wig Hall of Shame.

Scoutpost said...

Just popping in to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to everyone! Stay safe.

Darkaardvark said...

Sorry if someone else has pointed this out, but...

I just realized that the episode guide in the Season 3 DVD set lists in the synopsis for TTLG "In a flash-forward, a distraught Jack considers ending it all."

So... sucks for people who want to get into the show by buying the DVDs? I guess from the perspective of looking back it's easy to include but surely there are at least some new viewers who are buying the three DVD sets. (Probably more through iTunes and the like, but still). I'm just a little baffled. Anyone else feel like I do?

Darkaardvark said...

Addendum to the above:

Okay, I've read it over more closely and it seems like its really more of an episode *recap* for viewers who've already seen it, not like the usual TV-guide style summaries.

Still, reading those through could spoil a lot of stuff for a first-time viewer, since it doesn't say anything about spoilers.

Unknown said...

Merry Christmas everyone!

maven said...

Hope everyone got what they wanted for Christmas! Now, I know that we all wanted a full season of LOST, but 1/2 of one is better than nothing!

Amused2bHere said...

Merry Christmas LoCos!!!!

I got Lost S3 from my DS19 (dear son, age 19). It's going to be a good week. ;)

Happy Kwanzaa! It's my birthday week, and of course ya'll know that Kwanzaa means "Happy Birthday Lori", so I hope you all enjoy a week celebrating ME!!!

Not too full of myself, am I ?

Aw,Memphish! Happy Birthday to you too. Wasn't it nice of someone to give an official name to our birthday week? LOL "20 days of Memphish"--that's even better than Kwanzaa! It's almost a Ramadan, but without the fasting...

I love this week!

Capcom said...

Hey All!

Happy early B-days to Memphish and A2BH!

P.S. Go over to check out the latest word from Fenris on their Lost Bullets blog. We haven't heard from him in a long time!

Twinkle said...

Happy holidays, birthdays, and Festivus, everyone!

We're visiting family in the blustery north. Whew! What a whirlwind! So we're getting half of a season of lost? Yes, that is better than not getting any season! Wow! Can you recap for me when they plan on starting it? Thanks!

maven said...

Hey, Twinkle! Happy Holidays to you and your family!

LOST starts Thursday, Jan. 31st at 9PM (the Grey's Anatomy slot). There's a recap first at 8PM. The new episode itself is one hour.

Most of us seem pretty glad to get any S4 stuff, even if it's half!

memphish said...

I wonder who made the recap, people involved with the show or ABC?. I'm fearful it's going to be the 8 minute recap that's running online with commercials running the rest of the time. And knowing ABC those commercials will involve clips of the episode that's about to run giving away all the good stuff.

I'll probably record the recap and watch it later. Only 35 days and a few hours until new LOST! I just realized that New Year's Eve will have extra significance because it will mark 1 month until new LOST!

Twinkle said...

Thanks for catching me up! New Lost! Woohoo! And Jericho will on this winter too I think. With wikipedia having a page to keep track of the writer's guild strike, it feels like people are hunkering down for the long haul. :-(

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hope everyone had a nice Christmas!

maven, those photos are so cute. :)

Sadly, I did not get the Lost DVDs for Christmas - thank god for gift cards!

maven said...

Melissa_lossa: How can your family do that to you? LOL Just hope you don't have a Wal-Mart gift card...hear on the news today they're having trouble reading them!

Week 6 of the Lost Hiatus League is up at DarkUFO. Hubby still beats me! I think I'll switch our teams...he'll never know! LOL

Capcom said...

Is anyone having a LOST party when it starts up again? I spent the summer getting some of my family into LOST, so I decided to have a Season-4 premier party and I just made up the graphic invitations that I'll send out tomorrow. I hope someone will come, I know it's on a school and work night, but I figure if I ply them with fun island food a few will make it maybe. At least it gives me something to do and plan in between Christmas and Easter. :-)

maven said...

I want to come, Capcom!

jess4ua said...

Hi! Hope everyone had a fantastic holiday season. My five year old managed to catch pneumonia, so mine has been a little rough. But he is doing better now. I have fallen a little behind, but last night I watched #7 and #8 (thanks Ange!)...and I must say, I think Walt might have a brother on the way! Anyone?

Maven-switch teams, LOL! I think I am 610, not to shabby. 600 "others" to take out. *evil grin* Yeah RIGHT!

OMG, One month left. I have to try to contain my excitement a little, so as not to scare hubby and kids! But, eeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

Capcom said...

Come one, come all, Maven!! :-)

Your little guy is in our prayers Jess! XO

Our Christmas was pretty good everyone laughed and had a good time. My daughter got a Wii for Christmas and I think I have tennis elbow. lol

melissa_lossa
We're not allowed to buy anything for ourselves during December so my husband buys my Lost dvd for me for Christmas. Only this year he said he almost didn't find one. He waited for a few days to go get it and had to go to 3 different places before he got the last one they had.

jess4ua
Pneumonia how awful. Glad to hear he's doing better. Hope he stays on the mend.

capcom
I would love to come to your Lost party but alas I can't. Actually we're hoping to come to Tennessee this summer for vacation. We choose a different state every couple of years. Two years ago we went to Michigan. Two years before that it was Virginia. We live in Ohio so we've chose the states close by. Eventually we may make it to the west coast.
I'm going to go check my stats on the Fantasy League now.

Amused2bHere said...

Lost Fantasy League: well, I'm in position 2004, up from 2083 last time. I hope my all girl team fares better in S4!

Praying for your little one, Jess!

Stay warm, Twinkle. Glad to see your smiling face here again.

Cap, aren't you in TX? I wish I could come to your Lost party. I'd bring the mango salsa!

Tess315 said...

amused
I was going by Capcom's profile maybe she's moved since she made it.

Amused2bHere said...

Oops! I mean TN, not TX.

Rats...I won't be in Tennesee until May...well, have a great Lost Premiere.

Capcom said...

Yep, I'm in Knoxville, TN. Hey, stop by Amused and Sayidsgirl if you're ever around the neighborhood! They fixed the World's Fair sun sphere and got it opened up again! :-D Alas, I found no wig shop like Bart Simpson and his friends found when they were there.

memphish said...

Sayid's Girl we are all sporting Wii injuries too. Hubby and I feel pretty good the few times we managero beat Kiddo. I am in TN like Capcom, but we're 400 miles from each other. I'll have to attend the premier party in spirit. Can you imagine a bunch of us trying to watch an episode? It would probably take hours for us to pause and rewind repeatedly. :-)

maven said...

I think a LOST party with all of us there would be great, but we'd be screaming all the time! We'd all have to go home and rewatch! LOL But talk about FUN!!!!

My son's in-laws got them a Wii. Can't wait to try it out.

Tess315 said...

Hey I was just over at DarkUFO and apparently ABC has made a press release that Oceanic Air will be reopening "Taking you places you never imagined." Flights begin December 31. They list nine markets
Los Angles, CA Tustin,CA Ames,IA New York,NY Portland, OR Knoxville, TN Seoul, South Korea Sydney, Australia
There's a contact person named Georgia Cavanagh and the number (818) 460 5520
You get a message about how many calls they've been recieving and to leave your contact information.
And to visit their website opening December 31 flyoceanicair.com
Go check out Dark's site he has the voice message downloaded so you can listen to it.
Sounds like something cool might be going to happen. I hope so.

maven said...

Sayid'sgirl: Thanks for pointing out that Oceanic Air stuff. I called the number. Area code 818 is MY area code. I think the 460 prefix is in the North Hollywood area. I left my name and number! Maybe this is the beginning on TLE2!

Tess315 said...

maven
You're welcome.
I thought that number might be in your area. When I did a directory search on the area code and prefix it was in Burbank.
TLE2 would be cool wouldn't it.

Tess315 said...

I was just on flyoceanicair and it was up and had an ad with three flight attendants from Sydney, London and somewhere else (can't remember) telling how oceanic was back in business and the wonderful places they can take you. But when I went back the ad was gone and the ony thing there is a cloud background and the oceanic airlines logo. hummm

Hope all of you have see the Ocean Air commercial (it's up on DarkUFO).

Interesting that the last stewardess is in front of an island scene and says "The Ultimate Destination". It seems to be Jack's ultimate destination, doesn't it?

Another thought: Maybe Oceanic Air started up again because Jack mentions that they got a Golden Pass on Oceanic. It would be worthless if the airline was operating, wouldn't it? LOL

So does that imply future Jack yelling at future Kate exists post 12/31/07?
