I hope I'll be the "first" to listen to the podcast as well. I'm looking forward to it.

I haven't had time to listen yet, but my main observation was the similarity of the dynamic of Peyton and the Union scout, with that of Charlie and Ethan.

And of course, Charlie was hanged too. The fact that he actually did survive is a departure, but it's interesting to note that in Occurrence, Peyton found it silly that a man who survived a hanging would then die by drowning.

Hi everyone. I'm back from vacation, and happy to say, I have the podcast downloaded and ready to listen to while I go set up my classroom. Can you stand that summer is nearly over?!

thebookpolice: I like the comparison that you draw between the characters. I have to say that one thing that really stood out for me was how the scouts on the bridge were pretty much doing what they were told, without really knowing what was happening in the center of the bridge.

It was a little like that for Ethan too. He was more keyed in to what Ben had in mind, but ultimately was carrying out his twisted interpretation on an order.

memphish said...

That raises a good point with no answer unfortunately. Who's idea was it to set up Peyton? The spy, his boss, is it a case of an Ethan acting under orders, but interpreting them in his own way?

TBP, wow what an observation. Never thought of that. I wonder if Darlton noticed that parallel too.

Glad to have you back Ange. I hope you are well rested.

Listened to the podcast, and I am kicking myself for missing it, but since I sent in those questions it's kinda like I was there anyway. Glad I could contribute!

What great discussions. We got so much more mileage of that short story than I think anyone expected.

Just reposting from the last post in case anyone missed it:

I got this email from Chucklez. He is having trouble posting comments, so he asked if I'd give you all a message:

I think i'm gonna head back to alabama this weekend (my birthday weekend).

i simply HAVE TO be closer to my girls (in florida).

i only have what i can fit in my car and i really have to watch my budget cuz I need to stay in a hotel until I get a place and/or a job.

and have to make sure to send money for child support and car, hotel, etc.

pray hard!!

if you want to, you all can text and/or call 201-895-2907.

love you all!! --Chucklez3

You can also contact Chucklez at myspace.com/chucklez3 since he's not going to be reading blogger for a while.

Please pray for him, and drop him a note every now and then, ok? Monday is his birthday, so maybe text message him or send him a birthday email on myspace.

maven said...

Great observation, TBP! Can really see the similarities there.

Another point in the story was how much Peyton wanted to go home. We know most of the Losties do, too. Although when Peyton got to his home and family we know that he was dead...but happy. From what we've seen in the F/F with Jack, maybe home is not such a great place. Going home did not make Jack happy.

Welcome back, Ange. We missed you! Hope you're well-rested!

Amused: I will definitely write to Dan and, at least, wish him a Happy Birthday on Monday!

Ange said...

The podcast was really great. It was nice to hear Jess and Eric on there as well.

Thanks Maven and Amused, I'm not well rested...yet. The jet lag is just killer!

Also, about The Wizard of Oz. Lostpedia had this to say: "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" is a children's book written by L. Frank Baum in 1900. After its publication, the original book was reprinted countless times, often under the name "The Wizard of Oz".

So if that's true, then it seems we're safe with either. I picked up a copy of the latter(unabridged) from Amazon and it seems to be the one we want.

jess4ua said...

Well there is definitely an abridged version. I had that one first, without realizing it, until I compared it with "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" last night. What a pain!

WWoO has been public domain for some time. It is also available online, here.

Reading the excerpt from Jeff Lieber's initial LOST draft (in this month's "Chicago" magazine), it's too bad he uses Where the Wild Things Are. It's not likely T(current)PTB would have the balls to callback to a book used by the persona non grata creator of the show.

That would have been a fun one for the Club.

Ltlmz said...

Hello, fellow book clubbers. I really enjoyed participating in the podcast discussion of Occurence. I haven't listened to the podcast, because I felt like I sounded like a bluthering idiot.

I thought of something after--of, course--the podcast. In the story, the reader hears Peyton's story as if he survived the hanging. This made me think of two things on LOST: Is Christian Shepherd dead? and when Naomi said that there were no survivors of flight 815.

I don't think it was a coincidence that Locke is looking at the upside-down book. I think that Darlton was/were really using Occurence to laugh at the pergatory/hallucination theories.

On a personal note about my sign on: When I'm acting like a know-it-all, my husband lovingly teases me by calling me Little Miss, referencing the Spin Doctors' song "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong." So, that's where my on-scrren name comes from. LTLMZ is alos descriptive--I'm only 5 feet tall.

Tess315 said...

I didn't get a chance to listen to the podcast live like I usually do, I downloaded it and just finish listening to it. It was the best one so far.
I was thinking that the North needed to make an example of someone to prove they would hang anyone who tried to sabotage the railroad. They may have known Peyton's background and used a long con on him to serve this purpose. I also felt Peyton's need for distinction could also describe Locke as well as Charlie.

memphish said...

Sayid's Girl, I agree with that as well. Peyton reminded me of Locke with his "Colonel" moniker and his army posters and the flag on his wall.

As for why the spy conned Peyton, I agree that they wanted to make an example of someone to prevent someone capable from attempting the same task. It was probably also a morale boost for the troops kind of like public executions outside the Tower of London or in the Place de la Concord in the 16th-19th centuries.

2costa said...

has there been any word on the mobisodes???

memphish said...

No word that I know of 2Costa. I think the earliest they'll show up would be late Sept/October when the show would have premiered under the old television paradigm.

Amused2bHere said...

Here's my take on Why con Peyton?

Perhaps the Union soldiers targeted Peyton because his house was closest to the bridge, or maybe his was just one of the houses the Union spy visited that day to flush out any Rebel sympathizers.

Amused2bHere said...

Welcome Ltlmz. You sounded great on the podcast. Everyone did.

Trust me, the next time is easier!

Ltlmz said...

Thanks, amused. I plan on participating in the next one. I love to read (English major) and I love Lost, so what could be better?

Hi gang...I had a bit of an epiphany when I was at the gym today. It's OT from WWoO, but it is about books and relates to Lost so I'm going to throw it out there.

I'm reading Slaughterhouse Five (K. Vonnegut) and was thinking about Billy Pilgrim. If you've read it you know, the character in the story is going through a series of seeming time jumps where he bounces around in his life, goes to another planet, and even explores the idea of the 4th dimension a bit.

I won't get all spoilery, but one of the main points concluded by a race of aliens called Tralfamadorians is that one never really dies because you exist in the past, etc. So to tie it to Lost...what if all of the characters are just kinda jumping around in their lives, all the while are really dead? I'm not talking PURGATORY, just jumping to places where they still exist.

If you haven't read the book this will probably make no sense, but I really like the idea in reference to the show, the seeming time loops, and the flash backs and forwards.

PS: I posted some notes and ideas from WWoO on Fenris's Blog if you care to have a look. On of these days I'm going to actually be home during the podcast I just know it! Maybe even this one:D.

memphish said...

Ange, I read Slaughterhouse 5 back around the time we saw Flashes Before Your Eyes and got very convinced that Desmond was pulling a Billy Pilgrim especially given what he believed was his inability to change things in the past.

I'd say that Jacob's/the Others feelings about death may be the same as Billy's and the Tralfamadorians what with the brainwashing video and Klugh's insistence that Mikhail shoot her which unfortunately does not match up with Pickett's grief over Colleen's death. Maybe Pickett and Colleen were less enlightened.

I'd say Flash Forward Jack either isn't slipping around through time or at least doesn't understand that he is. He's definitely not the "so it goes" type.

maven said...

Ange: Great comments on WWoO on Fenris' blog. Everyone should check it out!

One of these days we'll get you on the podcast!

Ange said...

Thanks Maven!

Also memphish, I think you may have coined a phrase. "So it goes type" could certainly apply to some of the Losties.

Do you think Danielle is a "SIGT"?

maven said...

Hey gang: Does anyone have more info re TPTB doing TLE2 between S4 and S5? According to DocArtz, they will be doing TLE2 and possibly TLE3, but less commercial (which would be so much better). Do you think we should email someone do spur them on and tell them how much we'd love this?

2costa said...

ange you must have been on vacation when i brought up the elders of tralmaphrdore and billy pilgrim being like desmond. My love of Kurt is why my yahoo id is kilgoretrout420420. I like how they describe the way they would look at a book or a song all at once and enjoy the peaks and vallies of the whole work rather than look at things in a linear way. Kurt was a bit of a clunky writer, especially for female characters, but the metaphors and ideas he touches on are pure genius. A freind of a freind of mine dated vonnegutt's daughter and even after he didnt want to date her anymore he stayed with her so he could hang with kurt. I almost think he is like what would come out if you put mark twain and albert eintsein in the fly transporter. I really like Breakfast of Champions with all his crazy drawings and the fact that trout is a major character. Galopogas is really good too and has a lot of lost type stuff in it. My grandmother lived through the bombimg of Dresden so slaughterhouse had special significance to me.

Ange said...

Costa: Yeah I must have missed your comments. Sorry about that. I love what you said about Vonnegut, and I especially love your passion. This is the first thing I've read by him...but I'm hooked.

the funny thing is ange i have read maybe 25 books cover to cover and half have been kurt books. His short stories are sweet. Hocus Pocus is really good i have yet to read timequake. memphish said...

Zort70 -- thanks for the info. I'm envious of the release date. Commentary for Expose!!! Sheesh. I want commentary for Through the Looking Glass.

Ange and 2Costa, I've really enjoyed reading Vonnegut after discovering Slaughterhouse 5 this year as well. I've read Cat's Cradle which is set on an Island. And this summer I read Mother Night.

Ange said...

memphish: I thought the same thing about commentary for Expose. It seems they are really trying to cram that one down our throats and make us think it's as wonderful as they do.

Also, I really like your QOTD today Memphish. I'm going to go have a think about that letter and see if I can find a youtube with the scene.

Capcom said...

Morning Friends!

Thanks also TBP for your posts of the online access. XO

Good thinking Ange, 2costa and Memphish, on Slaughterhouse. I saw the movie eons ago, but don't remember anything about it. The parallels are interesting. 2costa, is Breakfast of Champions the book where KV keeps saying, "It looked like this," and then there is a drawing, all thru the book? I thought that was funny.

Re: SIGT, I think that Rousseau would be a THWTIGOOH person, i.e., "The Heck With This I'm Getting Out Of Here!" :o)

Thanks for the DVD info Zort! Oh well, the UK has to wait so long to see each ep after the US, I guess they deserve a perk. Not fair tho. I would trade TLG for Expose for commentary for sure, Memphish! :-p Maybe TPTB want a chance to 'splain things to us.

memphish said...

Anyone looking for a great, short book that hasn't been on LOST but is certainly relevant to get you thinking about time travel and being enslaved (or not) by time and space should check out Slaughterhouse Five. It only takes a few hours to read.

Zort70 said...

Capcom, We only had to wait a couple of days per episode for the second part of the season this year, the first half I had to view via bit torrent.

The two DVD sets from the first and second season were from the US. The first season was bought on a holiday to the US and I watched almost the whole of the second half of the 1st season back to back. I then had a few months of keeping very quiet when anyone else at home mentioned Lost.

Gallapogos sounds interesting 2costa, I think I'll check it out.

Anyone wanna bet that the really good commentary will be during Expose? Kind of like hiding a jewel in a pile of crap?

jess4ua said...

Hi everyone! Slaughterhouse 5 sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out.

While other books are being thrown out there, I have to say I've always thought of "Paradise Lost" by Milton when watching LOST. (LOL I just got the pun on the title as I wrote it.) The whole setup of the book is that no "time" really exists. The events of the fall of man jump around. What I got out of that is that we aren't "trapped" in time but that we really are not in "time" even though we think we are. I hope that makes sense.

I believe it was LTLMZ that recently talked about how hard it is on LOST to tell the good guys from the bad guys: All of our Losties have a shady past. In Paradise Lost "Satan" is looked at in different ways. At first he seems to be a mighty, powerful being, but, as the poem continues, his character becomes less and less appealing. This really reminds me of all the characters in LOST.

Also I believe a general theme for that time period of writing was "The Garden of Eden" battle is all in our heads. As much as I hope this not the case for LOST, there sure are a lot of things that point in that direction.

Anyways, sorry for the rant. Maybe I'm stretching it, but I'm really bored right now.

That's funny TBP! Like diamonds for instant. :-)

I have always meant to get around to reading Paradise Lost, Jess, but haven't yet. Thanks for the nudge. Yes, let's hope that LOST isn't all inside someone's head, like maybe Vincent. Or a snowglobe. But TPTB said no snowglobe. Phew.

Wow Dennis, that's an awesome vid about TLE! It's also a great site to send to everyone who thought that we were crazy last summer, when babbling on about it. Now they'll see that they missed something very special. Funny what they say about the final "phase" of the game being only the DJ Dan broadcast. Ah well, spilt milk. :-) BTW, did I hear them correctly say that the Sri Lanka vid was 60 one minute long fragments?

TheOtherLisa said...

Hope this finds everyone well. Great discussion!

ltlmz said "I don't think it was a coincidence that Locke is looking at the upside-down book."

Awesome observation! For me, I think this story takes place in all of a few seconds between life and death in Peyton's life. Part of the dying process- at least that's how I perceive it. Now, as Ange brought up on Lost Bullet points, if the LOST happens in just a few seconds and everyone really IS dead.... (I'm not sure I'll like that either!) Maybe the fact that the book is upside down, as you suggest, turns that theory also on its head!

Sayid'sgirl.... I like your idea that the need to overcome his (Peyton's) deficiencies and do something "big" is a good parrallel to Locke and Charlie... I'd also propose Ben as a potential match to this. We even don't know if Ben's been conned somehow into gassing Dharma/his Dad.... the long Con could start all the way back with the Natives.

Memphish.... your observation that "they wanted to prevent someone capable from performing the task" is also a good one... who among our LOSTIES isn't inept at Something???? Maybe Charlie was the biggest mess at first, but as the characters developed, I don't think he'd be the only one to fit that bill!

TBP- you joke about the big secret being in Expose.... I dunno... i could be convinced that its all in the razzle dazzle ;-)

I remember liking Slaughterhouse 5 ....but my memory is so bad for details that I've been prompted to re-read! I tried Paradise Lost on audio book, couldn't get past the narrators voice! Maybe i'll have to try the real deal!

Fun discussion to read! Thanks!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey, all -

Great comments here! You guys bring up so many good points that I never even thought of. TBP - I like your comparison to Charlie. Makes perfect sense.

I just finished Wizard of Oz - great stuff! It was a much quicker read than I thought it would be. :)

If anyone is interested, here is the official list of questions that we were working from for the last podcast. Thanks again to amused2behere for her great questions!

Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge Discussion

From Amused2behere:

1. Con Issues:
Sawyer isn't reading it. John is the one shown with this book, and he's not reading it either. Our Con Man isn't reading it, neither is our Conned Man. Yet it's seen in The Long Con. Hmmm.....coincidence? I don't think so, since the actual long con in the episode involves both Sawyer and John.

2. It was one of the books in the Swan hatch. Who chose to put this book there--Dharma or the Swan inhabitants? If Dharma, then why would they give this story to the button pushers? Did Desmond read it? I bet everyone who spent time down there read every book on the shelves, maybe more than once. Maybe it's part of the mind games Dharma was playing, their long con.

3. Time Issues:
Are TPTB of Lost giving us a message about the events we are witnessing? Is time passing differently for our Losties than it is for the outside world? We know it is passing differently for US, since it's been three years for us and only three months or so for those on the Island. Just the typical passing of time for TV? or something more....? And what about those flash forwards? All imagined in Jack's head? more things that make you go hmmmm...

4. Daddy Issues:
Peyton Farquhar goes to blow up the Bridge to protect his wife and children. Good Daddy! He might be a dirty Rebel, but he's a good Daddy. (Northerner, here. Let's not go there.) Is he like Michael, who would commit double murder in order to reunite with Walt? (Side note: Farquhar reminds me of the villainous king of Shrek, Lord Farquaad. Too funny not to mention, although it is totally irrelevant!).

5. "Owl Creek Bridge" is famous for its 'irregular time sequence and twist ending', according to Lostpedia. This is probably obvious, but I suspect we will be getting a severely twisted ending to Lost. How about like every episode? duh!

From Melissa_Lossa:

1) Is Peyton the victim of a Long Con himself? The soldier that plants the idea of going after the railroad turns out to be a Federal scout. Did he set Peyton up?

2) Throughout his “escape” Peyton keeps resisting what his body is doing. His hands untie the ropes without him realizing it, he doesn’t want to surface and he at first wants to just stay on the beach and give up. Is this similar to Desmond, being carried along by his destiny?

3) There is a very symbolic set-up to the hanging. Peyton stands on one end of a board, balanced on the trusses of the bridge, while the enemy soldier stands on the other end. Once the soldier steps off the board, it will fall into the water and Peyton will hang. Could this symbolize a balance of power on the island? The Others vs the Losties or even the Others vs the natives (the other Others)? Should we believe that without one side, the other will die?

maven said...

Thanks so much for the TLE video, Dennis! Gives a great quick summary to explain all of our madness! LOL

I emailed DocArtz at the Tailsection and he "confirmed" that there will be a TLE 2 between S4 and S5...less commercialized. There also might be a TLE 3! I don't know if we shoud email TPTB to let them know how much we'd love this.

I, too, read Vonnegut so many years ago. With all the talk of Slaughterhouse 5, I think it's due for a re-read.

TheOtherLisa said...

Oh my! SUCH great questions above! Thanks for posting! Given the topics, I wish I could get the podcast! My connection is so spotty I have such a tough time getting the podcasts! I had a few thoughts to toss out:

Amused's Q's/topics
#1- About the con and conned men not reading it... maybe they should have.... maybe they both just got Conned into killing Cooper. That would so far be the act that links the two of them significantly.
#2- Who put it there.... one possiblity that was not mentioned in your question is that it could have been Kelvin's or Radzinski's much like Our Mutual Friend was brought by Des.
#3- Time issues boggle my brain, won't even attempt a thought!
#4- Peyton's motivations/good daddy... maybe... or maybe like so many of our LOSTIES, it was really about "being someone"- proving himself, doing something to be noteworthy.

Melissa_Lossa's
#2- This is such a cool observation. While I like how you apply "resisting" to Peyton's trying to escape and Des's on island situation/ overall fate. I'm wondering if there aren't other specific things that it applies to- for example, we know that Des has a military background... maybe there's some specific references in that? Maybe prison is the beach/sand where he would have just given up?
#3. The symbolism/balance of power idea is wonderful...so much talk of Dharma being on a quest for harmony but unable to co-exist with the natives... wow! Gives a new spin to "Live together, die alone", now doesn't it!

Such great questions!

2costa said...

hey jess i think i heard damon say that the flash foward changed the genre of lost from mystery to a tragedy like "paradise lost" story so nice call

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey, Lisa - sorry to hear that you have trouble with the podcasts. They really are a blast. :)

As for who put the book there, during the podcast, David had a great theory that the things in the hatch came from the various inhabitants, that people would bring books and records in to keep themselves entertained, and would then leave them behind when they left. I like that idea a lot. It's such a wacky collection, that if Dharma stocked the hatch, I'd LOVE to know what they were thinking!

Hey all,

Wow... The Wizard is getting around these days... first Sci-fi Channel announces that they are making a series called "Tin Man" which is a sci-fi interpretation of the famous story and now it is announced that there is a movie in the works beased on the figures (and accomping story) that McFarlane made a year or two ago. Dorthy and the Magic Ruby Corset. A S&M kinda version of TWOO... could be really wierd huh?

Well c-ya,
Ded

I really hate all the podcasts moving to talk shoe... while I am sure it is a great thing it really alienates alot of people from being involved directly. I hate that I have to listen to it two or three days after it goes live, when it comes up on i-tunes.

memphish said...

I have to respectfully disagree with Ded about the podcasts. I like that I can participate, if I wish, in the podcast, or I can listen later. I don't find that different than standard podcasts which I listen to on my own schedule, not someone else's.

My only beefs with Talkshoe is the sound quality which is not great and the fact that when you're trying to participate and David pushes the button so that you can talk, you can't hear for a few seconds which leads to repetition that interrupts flow.

memphish said...

I'm guessing that the books in the Hatch have trickled in over the years. I'd guess there was a 540 days supply when they opened, and that over time, more were airdropped in. There are books that were in the Hatch that weren't published until the 21st century. It could also be the case that people brought some of their own when they came to the Swan. Maybe they, like Ben, had portable libraries and book carriers.

Capcom said...

Holie-molie, I just love having my morning coffee "with" you all! Reading the great discussions that you post wakes up my brain in the best way, and sets my day off with an intellectual jumpstart! :-X

Such awesome observations about the story, I really have to sit and read the online version this weekend. It's impossible to comment on them all, but I do agree that maybe our cons should have read the book, like you mentioned. And, if they were conned into killing Cooper, maybe we might find out later that some of the cons that Coop did interfered with the plans of someone in HG/DI/Jacob/Whomeverelse and they wanted him dead? Uh-oh, brainpain. Ouch.

Tx for the penguin info 2costa, I love penguins! Even before it was fashionable to like them. I used to be a huge Pit Penguins fan too.

I also agree with the thought that the Swan workers brought their own entertainment as well. The DI could have planted things for sure, but it also seems as if personal effects would be in there as well. Which begs the Q (sorry if this is in the podcast) did some of the Swan workers leave hints for future Swan workers???? Brainpain! Heheh, Ben's bookcarriers Memphish, good one. :o) ::cough:manpurse!:cough::

Ded, would that new WWOO be similar to the "Flesh Gordon" movie of the 70s? :-p

Melissa_Lossa said...

capcom - I love the idea that some of the Swan workers left hints for the next round of people, that things were maybe not quite as they appeared. If that's the case, I wonder if anyone caught on? I still want to know more about Radzinsky - he seemed to have a real plan going on. I'm not sure whether or not I believe that he is really dead.

Melissa_Lossa said...

DED I can't for the life of me understand why you can't take part in the Talkshoe podcasts? A Flash Upgrade would open the chatroom for you! If not just create a talkshoe account or I';ll give you my guest account number and you can dila in on the next one or even our Devil's Advocate show if you want. The sound quality issue I've tried to fix a num,ber of times but everytime I put the money aside to buy eqipument my house or car has a major crisis. Hopefully soon we'll have it sounding great again. WORD UP!

memphish said...

David, I don't think the sound quality is you, I think it's a product of Talkshoe. I think Big O's Talkshoe podcasts sound less good than standard recording methods as well.

Amused2bHere said...

Dedjezter, I used to wait until the podcasts were up on iTunes too, but it seems like that it takes more than a few days for them to appear there. So I started streaming them directly (only bad thing is that I couldn't pause or fast forward so I had to be ready to listen to the whole thing in one sitting).

I understand not being able to be there for the actual live 'cast, but why can't u listen to it later on Talkshoe's site? Why wait for iTunes? I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

Memphish, I agree about the sound quality. I'm not sure it's the equipment's fault. Some callers sound loud and fine, but some are barely audible. Talkshoe is what it is, and that's okay by me. Of course we don't get the fine music and cool sound effects that Passafist uses on the LoCo podcasts, but I love having an interactive discussion. It's a decent trade off, inho.

Passafist, btw, when is the next 'cast with Goog? Are you guys keeping up with the rewatching the past seasons?

If you can't join the podcast live, don't wait for iTunes.

I always try to provide a new post and a direct link to the MP3 as soon as it is available. Plus, you can subscribe to the RSS feed on TLC's TalkShoe page, which should have the podcast as soon at it is available to download.

Just in case he can't access myspace for a while (he might be using only public library access until he gets settled), I copied your messages and sent them in email to him. This is the nicest place in cyberspace! I love this community.

He's headed to Alabama, his girls are in Florida. But at least he'll be closer to them than New Jersey.

on my birthday i only got an automated birthday greeting from the fuselage... :(

Thanks 2costa! BTW, is your birthday on our official LoCo birthday list? Maybe it was compiled before you became a regular here?

Capcom, I've just noticed your new pic. Where did you see the TARDIS prop ? I'm assuming it is a prop rather than one of the last remaining police boxes in the UK, because of the wheels on the bottom.

I have to say that I am a big Doctor Who fan, both of the new and origional series.

memphish said...

New Jeff Jensen article includes casting spoilers which I'm avoiding. If someone isn't avoiding them and can comment on the rest of the article, I'd appreciate it.

I'm sorry I'll miss the podcast again tonight, but flag football practice (for my son, not me) calls.

jess4ua said...

Memphish - That article really only talks about the casting scoop.

Looking forward to tonight!

2costa said...

this casting talk has got me pumped for febuary as pathetic as that sounds. Capcom 5/2/74

memphish said...

I got a rundown from someone else as well Jess. For those who want to know, it talks about the actor cast, but not about the role, though to look at the guy you can't help but speculate.

The end of the article also said there would be more info. at EW.com this week about casting for S4 courtesy of Darlton.

2costa said...

i dont think he always looks like that memphis but i see what your saying...

2costa said...

i want some mobisode news. I like heroes and all, but i cant believe my friends that say its better than lost. Lost involves a lot more thinking in my opinion, heroes is pretty straight foward, I also think heroes:origins runs the risk of watering down the franchise, but who knows...

memphish said...

I'm just ready for anything new at this point. Even my summer series that I've watched aren't airing this week. Has all of TV taken a weeklong Labor Day holiday or something?

2costa said...

i know im bummed theres no burn notice this week, one of my favorite shows

maven said...

Apparently the new casting news can be considered spoilery since there is much speculation on the role this actor might take...enough said.

I know, every show I'm watching this summer is off until after Labor Day! Thank goodness for Netflix and watching all of 24!

Hopefully, I'll make it to Talkshoe by 3pm PST!

Capcom said...

Morning LoCos!

Thanks Zort, I got that excellent TARDIS pic from Wikipedia. I love the Doctor also, I didn't discover him until the Tom Baker days. Heh, I noticed those wheels too, and I thought it was funny.

Thanks Memphish for the DocJ article. That actor is great, he can be either very intense or very sweet, so hard to tell which way he could go character-wise. But the "-----" makes ya wonder, hmmmmmm.

I know, don't you hate it when everything goes on hiatus on TV? Even the good Doctor isn't on this Friday either.

Dennis, if you're here today, can you put 2costa on our birthdaymap? Tx.

that is great news from Chucklez, it sounds a sif he is getting his life in order.

I love this place! :-X

Hello, everyone!

I'm back at home and ready for another podcast! While I was gone, I read another great time travel novel. It's the new novel by Sherman Alexie, called Flight. The book is amazing. It's got nothig to do with Lost, but most of it involves the main character traveling through time. I highly recommend it!

Maven - your magazine is going in the mail today. :)

Dennis said...

I added 2Costa to the birthday list. Anyone else missing?

I have also moved the birthday list into its own post, so now any of the Admins can update it.

Thanks, melissalossa! I'll be looking for it!

It was nice meeting Mister Lossa. LOL
Although Melissa, you really should brainwash him with LOST so he can be like the rest of us. ;)

I assume that as the podcast has taken place that we have our own time anomaly ? On the font page it says the 29th of August and the podcast took place on the 28th !

Will there be a time implosion if I listen to the podcast before it happens ?

Zort70 said...

Nothing has visibly imploded so far, although philosophically speaking would I notice if the timeline had changed ?

Zort70 said...

Great discussions on the podcast.

Can I just check a few things to see if the timeline has stayed the same.

1. Hillary Clinton is still the supreme overlord of the American Conglomerate of nations.

2. A new Dharma orientation video was just discovered with N**** and P**** being used to demonstrate the effects of the incident and why it is always handy to keep a hazmat suit close by.

3. Lost series 4 is just about to start. (Well heres hoping !)

memphish said...

I know some of us have probably said this before, but I was thinking about Jacob and the fact that the biblical Jacob was a twin. I wonder if LOST's Jacob might be Alvar Hanso's bad twin. In the Bible, Jacob was a trickster, a grasper, a deceiver; he used a disguise to steal the blessing from his twin brother. Then he had to flee his irate brother who was threatening to kill him and in an "it will come back around" moment his father-in-law tricks him into marrying the older daughter instead of the younger as promised. This makes me wonder if LOST's Jacob was likewise tricked into his current ash-surrounded cabin. Is LOST's Jacob still working off his debt to achieve his actual goal (Rachel in the case of the Biblical Jacob) after being tricked perhaps by Ben in this first instance?

memphish said...

Also, did Jacob "steal" Alvar's birthright/blessing of the Island via the Purge like the Biblical Jacob?
