The Lost Community Podcast - Episode 32

If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around, did it make a sound? Find out in the latest podcast, where hosts David A Dein and Steve "The Goog" Guglich re-rehash the first four episodes of the hit ABC television show LOST - Pilot 01, Pilot 02, Tabula Rasa, and Walkabout.

CLOVERFIELD
If you saw Transformers, there is a trailer for a mysterious new movie being produced by J.J. Abrams. The movie doesn't have a title yet, so it is being called 1-18-08 and/or Cloverfield. It does not seem to be LOST related, so I have created a separate blog, Cloverfield Clues, if you want to find out more and "play" along.

i liked the one that showed that locke probably hid the sub and blew up the warph instead. He was dry inside the sub, but wet when jack walked up, whick shows he moved the sub and blew up the warph. Locke knows a lot more about naomi and the island than he lets on ansd this goes with my theory that locke was given some info after he pushed 77 that we arent privy to yet, that why he was like " i know now why you didnt want me to push 77" bang. It also showed how mikhail was still breathing after the sonic fence when kate rolled him over

its like the dead zone chuck tyo me , if the event was meant to happen then johnny was meant to touch them like last nights episode, johnny is always iinvolved cause he is insid ethe timeline like everyone else. There are just a few seconds where johnny can choose if he is gonna make the effort to change things ofr be in the right place at the right time, last night thaty moment was when he snatched the girl right before she fell, that was the moment that changed he future

2costa said...

or like the 4400 and the marked they are trapped in the past with a knowledge of the future, so it is their call how they are gonna shape the future...

2costa said...

the mikhail secret clue showed how mikhail was loyal to naomis bosses when she told him she was not alone he told them she said thanx for saving her, but mikhails next big move was making sure to unjam the signal so naomis people could find the location

seems like a lot of shows have this theme about changing the time line like heroes also does...

Chucklez, I like your idea that we might see decisions made on the Island and the Flash Forward to the consequences. That sounds like it could work as a plot device. After all, the Flash Backs are supposed to do essentially the same thing, the characters make choices on Island because of what has happened in their past. Good thinking.

And 2Costa, hopefully we'll get some answers at ComicCon this week like about the mysterious wet Locke who "blew up" the sub.

Unknown said...

thanks memphish. i actually thought about that when i saw the episode, but really didn't talk here about it.

in the next one, perhaps the person that DIED, won't be dead at all. and slowly it'll be revealed to us who the person is and EVENTUALLY what the ultimate "right decisions" are.

memphish said...

Chucklez, you might want to check out Eye M Sick's latest post about cause and effect and LOST. I have not read it, but at least at the macro level, it's part of what you've been talking about.

Capcom said...

Hi Locos!

Great talk on the subjects you're on today, and very thought provoking!

One thing that we might get in the 4th or 5th season concerning what is "supposed to happen" could perhaps be related to the Valenzetti Equation. I know that TPTB said that viewers didn't need items from TLE but after all, it was the reason why the D.I. was on the Island and sending out signals, and the subject could be broached towards the end of the series. Say, after we have forgotten about it and are trying to figure out what Locke's and Future Jack's "supposed to be" is, the V.E. problem could be revealed into the show. If Locke knows about the true mission of the D.I. somehow now, then he would be on to the mission and purposes, etc., and he would know that either the end of the world is supposed to happen (via the V.E. prediction) or, that the cure for the V.E. is supposed to happen to save the world. And that might be what Richard was talking about when he complained to Locke that Ben is wasting too much effort on the fertility thing and forgetting other important matters, i.e., saving the world maybe. Or not. :o)

I've also wondered why TPTB changed Charlie's swimming abilities story. It could be that it was just another one of Charlie's sarcastic comments like when he says wacky things like about the baby being a chocolate lollypop to Hurley, or whatever it was. He could have just spouted off like, sure, he's a champion swimmer, just to get them to let him save Claire and Aaron. Just guessing on that one.

2costa said...

capcom i think they added a lot of stuff from tle in season three, there was the scene with mr. paik saying how the hanso foundation was mad that paik hadnt delivered their equipment. The people that naomi work for have to be related to mittelos bioscience which was a nod to TLE. The kids eating as many apollo bars as they wanted in bens flash back. Just because tle wasnt important to season two doesnt mean its not important to the overall story, that why they have started adding elements from the game to the show to tie it all together..

Amused2bHere said...

No spoilers for those who haven't read HP7 yet, but I will say this:

Awesome story. I laughed, I cried, I reread several parts many times. I forced myself to put the book down at times so that the end would not come so quickly. Sigh. And I can't wait to see how they are going to film this one!

2costa said...

i think charlie was too selfish so save that person in season one and i think that room 23 might be an attempt to change one core numerical value of the VE just 23 to say 25 or whatever. Hence "everything changes" and the reverse "only fools are trapped by time and space"

2costa said...

i was all into john from cincinnati until the group hallucination last week i wonder if they can bring me back...

maven said...

2costa: Ditto on John from Cincinnati! They lost me completely after that scene. Bye bye!

Capcom said...

Good point, 2costa, Charlie could have been lying (or getting too sick) the first time around, instead of in S3.

Also, you're right, TPTB did seem to be bringing more TLE elements into the show in S3. I believe that they will incorporate more as well. But there are people who think that just because TPTB said that TLE wasn't necessary to understanding the show (back then), that it means that no TLE elements will be in the show, so that's why I always acknowledge that when I mention TLE. We got things like the radio tower and the station(s) right away so how anyone can dismiss the TLE elements is beyond me. :-)

BTW, did anyone else besides me get a weird feeling when Danielle and Jack took her tape out of the transmitting equipment and she said, "I guess we won't be needing that anymore"? I just got the feeling that we will need it later. It would figure the way the Losties never think before they act, that they would chuck out the tape and then they would need it again.

memphish said...

The LOSTies are so bad at re-using things though. Don't tell Al Gore about them. :) For example, why didn't they take Paolo's walkie with them to monitor what the Others were up to?

2costa said...

i like the quote about daniel that ben said was cut out where he said "you killed your people and slept in a ditch for 2 years" it has been rumored that she will come clean in season 4. Hey i was just wondering if Cane on cbs has been canceled yet?oh another thing about the tle that i think will come up is the fact that alvar hanso might not have been entirely honest to rachel blake in the final tle video. If he was puched aside from the foundation by mittlewerk, why was he still getting his blood tranfusions, seemed to cookie cutter, i dont think mittlewerk would have made it so simple to free hanso and let him reclaim the foundation. in jacks flash foward it would have been a few months after Hanso took back the foundation and all is not right with the world, and mittlewerk did vow to be back and release the virus.

Unknown said...

capcom: yeah, if they keep the valenzetti equation in the show, i'd say ultimately locke is being "told" what to do. and what the consequences are if he doesn't. kinda' like when he was "DEVOUT" to button-pushing. he's been a part of the ultimate "plan" from the beginning, in my opinion.

Capcom said...

Right Memphish! Which also begs the question again, why dumm@ss Paulo didn't bother to tell anyone THAT HE SAW OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ISLAND FER CRYMINEE SAKES! I really found it hard to believe that someone who thinks that they are stranded on an isolated island and finds a sign that maybe they are not, would just keep on living like a castaway with the sand fleas, all because of a handful of diamonds. Oh well, I guess I've just never had a handful of diamonds so I wouldn't know how to act if I did. :o)

Good points about Hanso 2costa. I hope that Hanso (but not Rachel) shows up on the show in some realtime FF scenes.

Capcom said...

You know, that's a very good point Chucklez. That would be a dream-mission come true for Locke! Just the very thing he was looking for in life, a purpose and a meaning for his existance. And what could be better validation for one's life, than to save the world?! But I wonder how he would feel if he found out that he was a part of a manipulative plan? You know, with his, "Don't tell me what to do" attitude and all. :o) I bet he would freak out like he did in the Swan, heheh.

Unknown said...

pretty much. and i don't think that his "mission" is ultimately a righteous one. i think "powers" on the island have been unleashed that never should've been. regardless of what these "powers" are.

i also think everyone there (dead or not) has to "atone" for SOMETHING in their respective lives.

and i think one of the things locke has to learn is that he doesn't have to go through the things he does to accomplish an outcome.

eh...

Capcom said...

Right Chucklez, he seems to always act before he thinks about whether or not his actions are really the right ones. And sometimes it seems like Locke is trying waaaay too hard, to either atone, or to affix a specific meaning to his actions.

Unknown said...

cool. we're on the same page then about all that.

talk to everyone later.

took meds for my gout (wort pain ever) and i'm getting sleepy.

good night all.

2costa, could you explain that last bit? I thought Charlie was the one who unjammed the signal when he punched in "Good vibrations".

The way I see it, Mikhail was trying to stop him with the grenade. Mikhail wanted to make sure that the signal would continue to be jammed without anyone tending to it even if the place was flooded before he killed those other 2 girls (as he was directed to do).

memphish said...

I agree Lostit. I think Mikhail was trying to sink the Looking Glass which according to Wilma or Betty would not "unjam" the signal.

Dennis said...

2Costa, Maven,

I really liked John From Cincinnati last week. This week was not quite as strong. I get to watch the episode twice because my wife usually falls asleep, so a little more sinks in. Plus, I read the summaries at HBO afterwards - they're great! They have transcripts and some very good explanations of what was going on in some of the more confusing scenes.

memphish said...

Good Morning LoCos!

Chucklez, sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope they will resolve soon.

Today's LOST QOTD: Was Ethan a Rogue Other? When it comes to his interaction with the Fusies and especially Claire, was Ethan doing what Ben wanted or what he (and possibly another set of Others) wanted?

Unknown said...

yeah, if i was still in california, i'd be all over that ticket dennis!!!

hahaha

2costa said...

mikhail didnt unjam the signal you are right lostit, but he did ensure that it can not be rejammed in the future by flooding the computer room. Mikhail was increasingly weary of bens leadership towards the end of the season. He probably resented ben letting them get close enough to kill klugh and sonic fence him, he was displeased that ben was taking locke to jacob and was even more pissed that ben did tell him the truth about the looking glass or give him the code. So he struck a final blow for the off island interests that support mittleos/naomi's people. I think it more complicated than ben against richard. I think all differnt factions of the others are jockying for their own pet projects. Ben is all about the fertility so he can shut off the island from the outside world alltogether. Richard is more concerned with the island mythology and some other project with jacob and locke. Mikhail is interseted in helping his off island backers exploit the island. I think its no coincidence that ben set the stage for the ouster of many of his top lt.s and left richard alive. Thats because richard isnt a mittleos goon he was an island native..

2costa said...

i wasnt lost at all with John like most people dennis i thought they might have played too much off their hand on john too early. I think they brought is back to make it more ambigious by it be'ing a dream. This week john referred to it all as a three ring circus, but i think it was a watershed for the show to go to the next level, with Zack Morris out eviling luke perry to buyouy skankweed and johns dire prediction that sean will be gone soon...and butchy surfing again and kai busting out his old boards...

melissa_lossa - I completely agree that it was a most perfect ending and I wished more characters were covered in that epilogue.

I do think there were some deaths that were unnecessary to the story, but I'm still happy with it over all.

Unknown said...

been eating black cherries and bananas and orange juice and water. yay.

Capcom said...

Hope you feel better soon Chucklez. Yes, check and re-evaluate your diet, if your Dr. hasn't already suggested that. A major cause of gout can be dietary.

sayid's girl, I cleared my weekend completely so I could read the book. I didn't want to be spoiled so this was my best bet. ;)

I read on mugglenet that JK Rowling is going to have an encyclopedia online with more character back story. Looking forward to that, especially now that the series is over.

Melissa_Lossa said...

cattygirl - I heard about that encyclopedia, too - sounds great! I heard that along with backstories, it might touch on more of what everyone was doing in the future.

Lucky you. My weekend was pretty full it was my birthday and our festival was this weekend so I had to take my daughter to that so I didn't really get a chance to read in earnest until Monday. Yeah I read that at Mugglenet last night after I came out of media hiding lol. It will probably be awhile before she writes it though. Her interview with Meredith Viera will be ont he Today show Thursday and Friday.
amused3behere
I know I wasn't expecting to laugh with this book but there were several places I did. I'll probably wait a day or two and start rereading it.
And on the Lost side can't wait to find out what Damon and Carlton will have to say at Comic con.

Unknown said...

Here's a question: If I'm swearing off spoilers for this season, can I read anything about the SDCC LOST panel discussion?

Amused2bHere said...

I dunno, TBP, I'd say read at your own risk. While I don't think they'd intentionally give out real spoilers, they are very likely to give out teasers, which our super intelligent community will have figured out in no time...

Thanks for the story Melissa_Lossa. The woman who writes that blog annoys the stew out of me when it comes to LOST. Why do let haters write about TV? I want that job!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Yeah, if you go to TV Guide and read Michael Ausiello's account of the session, it's pretty funny. Every other questions was along the lines of "Can you tell us the Lost news, PLEASE?" Those are the reporters who really care!

Looking forward to chatting with you ladies tomorrow!

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - regarding your question on Drawing of the Three the other day - it's been quite a while since I read that book, but I think I know what scene you're referencing at the end. Let's just say that all things serve the Beam, and that time travel/dimension travel become more and more common throughout the series.

Dennis said...

Melissa_Lossa, Thanks for the news!

I think that it is something most of us already knew (or assume), but it's probably news to most "normal" people. :)

memphish said...

Melissa_Lossa, thanks for the D3 reply. Have you ever heard any theories about LOST and eye color? Back when that freaky Season 3 poster came out people were going nuts about eye color changes. Reading D3 it made me wonder if Roland was looking through the LOSTies eyes and making their eye color change when he took over their body.

And speaking of eye color, anyone have any ideas about why we've never gotten a Kate or Sawyer eye shot? An inability to keep their eyes open like Earl on My Name is Earl when he tried to get a passport?

Dennis said...

ABC has begun offering their shows in High-Def on their web player.

We should compile of list of places where we can learn about the LOST panel. It's tomorrow starting at 8 pm EDT, 5 pm PDT.

The live blogs I know of are:

Tapdawg at The Tailsection
TV Squad on Twitter
Pop Candy (from USA Today) on Twitter
The TV Addict

Also, Jay and Jack and The Dharmalars are planning to record podcasts right after and should have episodes up by Friday.

I'm assuming someone at E! will be feeding Kristin's subs and that Ausiello will have someone as well. And Jeff Jensen at EW.

If you know of any others, please let me know.

I think DarkUFO is having one, too, at his Live Lost section.

Also, hooray Comic-con, and the dedication of the folks on this blog (Dennis:D) it is truly one of the best places to go on the Internet and somewhere I read EVERYDAY! Thanks for making it so great!
