CLOVERFIELD
If you saw Transformers, there is a trailer for a mysterious new movie being produced by J.J. Abrams. The movie doesn't have a title yet, so it is being called 1-18-08 and/or Cloverfield. It does not seem to be LOST related, so I have created a separate blog, Cloverfield Clues, if you want to find out more and "play" along.

by the way, on the voicemail of Ethan Haas, the Mezin left the message that ended with "....1078, 1078, 107.." and it ends.

do these numbers hold signifigance???

It's getting easier and easier to be in the Top Ten! LOL

I'll never forget ComicCon '06 and what an exciting evening it was getting live updates about Rachel Blake's appearance from the few of us that got to go. Memories....

The transcription factor cKrox was originally identified as a protein that bound to a negative transcription regulatory element in the murine alpha1(I) collagen promoter. We recently reported the cloning and characterization of human cKrox (hcKrox). Overexpression of hcKrox in NIH3T3 fibroblasts efficiently repressed the promoters of the fibronectin and alpha1(I) collagen genes (70-90%) in transient transfection assays and suppressed the endogenous genes in hcKrox expressing permanent cell lines. We have now isolated genomic clones and cDNAs encoding two novel transcription factors related to hcKrox termed hcKrox-beta and hcKrox-gamma (the original clone is now referred to as hcKrox-alpha). Both contain three kruppel-like zinc-finger DNA binding motifs that are 71-78% identical to those of hcKrox-alpha. The NH(2)-terminus of all three proteins contains a POZ domain, a conserved 120 amino acid motif involved in transcriptional repression and protein dimerization. RT-PCR experiments demonstrate that all three hcKrox family members are expressed in foreskin and dermal fibroblasts. Transient transfection studies in NIH3T3 fibroblasts demonstrate that hcKrox-alpha -beta and -gamma, as well as the murine cKrox-beta homologue, LRF, suppress transcription driven by promoters for the alpha1(I) and alpha2(I) collagen, fibronectin and elastin genes. Electrophoretic mobility shift assays and coimmunoprecipitation studies suggest that homo- and heterodimerization occurs between cKrox family members. Dimer formation is influenced by amino acids in the NH(2)-terminal POZ domain and the Zn(+2)-finger region. Immunoprecipitation studies indicate that cKrox can form heterodimers in solution in the absence of DNA. Thus, a multi-gene family exists that can coordinately regulate several extracellular matrix genes and has the potential to form many heterodimeric transcription factors.

i know that long paragraph might mean nothing to most of us, but i looked up CKROX and basically, just take in the overall meaning up there. maybe CKROX refers to some sort of elemental factor for the film???

I just posted up the entire video message of Van Mantra.

Posting all the vid sequences like that made me listen to them better, thanks Dennis. What the guy is saying about Ethan Haas reminds me of that supposed guy from the future, John Titor, who came to our time to look for an old IBM computer, and left all kinds of messages for us about the future.

Hey all!

I see the Cloverfield ARG has gotten lots of attention from recovering TLE addicts.
I'm afraid, very afraid!

I hope you are feeling better, Chucklez.

Had to order "A Wrinkle in Time", my Library was out of it, and I refuse to pay retail so I got the trilogy for $8, shipping included, from Half.com. I just hope it gets here in time to read before the discussion.

Only 3 days before HP5:The Order of the Phoenix!

Morning LoCos!

We have VBS at my church this week, so I'll have my mornings full of rising 3rd graders and 1/2 my afternoons with my son and 4-year-old niece, so I won't be around much this week. I'm going to have to hope Dennis and Chucklez keep up with the ARG and that I can catch up via Dennis's site.

But fear not, I still have some LOST QOTDs for what I hope is your enjoyment. Today -- in The Moth how does Locke find Sayid in the jungle using the transceiver when he's been at the caves with Charlie or boar hunting and skinning all day?

2costa said...

thanx dennis for info

memphish said...

We'll know the Emmy nominees in 10 days, but you might want to start working on your outrage.

maven said...

Of course, we all hope that Lost sweeps all the Emmys, but the reality is that there is pretty stiff competition out there. I'm hoping that we do at least get in the nomination phase (I enjoy Gray's, but how can that be there and not Lost?).

takes a village said...

Thanks dennis,
still working on it.
It's probably something simple though.

I'll be putting up some HD screenshots on my CloverfieldClues.com as soon as I get home!

capcom said...

Dennis, you're the best!

Memphish, have fun at VBS!!! :-)

capcom said...

BTW, Maven, are you going to the ComicCon again this year? I think it was you who went last year.

The program looks awesome on the website. Unfortunately, it's only available to attendents, and not for sale. Maybe someone will sell it on Amazon or Ebay. I bet lots of people who can't go would order and buy one, if they could. I sure would. :-(

Passafist said...

Hmmm... I have an idea? Is anyone here going to comic-con?? Cause I"ll bet we could use Talkshoe to broadcast the audio from somebodies cell phone!!!! Let me know if anyone up for that!! I'm not sure it's legal, but let's figure out if we can do it first and then I'll make a way for it to become possible.

maven said...

Capcom: No, I was NOT one of the ones who went last year. Hubby thought I was crazy enough! LOL

David: Sure doesn't sound kosher to me! I think last year people were using their cell phones report as Rachel's appearance was happening. I don't remember a live feed...

capcom said...

I like your thinking Passafist! It sort of reminds me of that saying, "Better to ask for forgiveness afterwards, than to ask for permission before" heehee.

it's the same group o' monkeys that created the apollo site, i'm betting.

memphish said...

There's a clear version of the Cloverfield trailer at DarkUFO's Media Mentions as well.

My LOST QOTD is a philosophical one. It's an opportunity to discuss "who" the characters are and what that means with regards to their fate particularly with respect to the odds of them dying on the Island.

Zort70 said...

Just listened to the shortened podcast, heres an idea, why don't we have a podcast for the brits ? Have it at a reasonable time for the UK ?

I'm sure there are lots of brits that would like take part but are put off by the timing. We may even get Dark Angel to participate.

Loving the podcasts including the Devils Advocate.

I'm dropping in here when I can, but work is crazy at the moment.

Dennis said...

What would be a reasonable time for the UK?

4815162342Helena said...

I've never posted here before but I love the podcasts(both of them) so i thought i'd introduce myself..(",)

In answer to your question dennis, in the UK it is now 5.06 GMT so maybe you could work out how many hours diffenrence there is by looking at the time at the bottom of this comment... and then make a decision as to a suitable time.. I would love to get involved in the podcast if i could...

Dennis said...

ARRGHH! :)

I understand the time difference, but WHAT do people in the UK (zort70, 4815162342Helena, etc) consider a reasonable time to do a podcast?

6:00 PM UK Time?
8:00 PM?

Zort70 said...

Hmm, I think between 7 and 9 pm which would be around about 3 to 5pm in the US (Eastern Time).

The webserver for TLC seems to be on PDT.

Honestly, The stats on the last podcast we're really discouraging because there we 20 or so people streaming the podcast! We always get criticised for making the podcast about us! When we go out of our way to get the community involved hardly anyone gets involved.

I'm not complaining just stating my own frustration. Episode 32 was ONLY for the community and only one person wanted to take part!

As for getting the UK involved our buddy XPETRI from the UK is in the chat room every time we go live. But i realize our Bread and Butter is the USA and our average audience is working between 2-4pm est on a weekday! Our West Coast friends would be eating lunch!

on a lighter note... I've been reading A Wrinkle in time.. does it ever pick up or is it just a bunch of people sitting around a kitchen table??

Melissa_Lossa said...

Hey all!

David - now I feel bad that I didn't tune in for the live podcast! I have been so zonked from work (and the nearly 100 degree temperatures), and I didn't think anyone wanted to hear me snoring on my cell phone. Don't be discouraged!

On a lighter note - I thought the exact same thing about A Wrinkle in Time the first time I read it. I really need to unearth my copy and start reading. Since this book is shorter, I'm planning to start closer to the discussion date, so I don't forget what I want to talk about.

Speaking of books, here's a question for you all (everybody) to ponder: We seem to have run out of Watership talk relatively quickly, and we also seem to have some crazy fast readers on here. We have a few "extra credit" books in the line-up. Is anyone interested in me assigning one extra book to each month? That way, we'd have an official book for everyone, and an extra book for those who want to talk more, read superfast, have no lives (ha!). Just kidding. :)

Let me know what you think. We can talk here, or I'm happy to open up my own blog for discussion.

And don't forget - there's also the Lost Community Recommended booklist over at Amazon. Non-Lost-related books recommended by your dearest Lost friends. :) Check it out!

maven said...

Melissa_lossa: Totally agree that one book per month is not enough! (Especially since the first 5 were found in the children's section!)

David: Sorry about the podcast turnout! You guys pour your heart and soul into it and we DO appreciate it. But I know I for one am experiencing a slight burnout for Lost discussion...and am enjoying some summer series for pure entertainment and no thought! But, that's just me...

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, maven has spoken! :) Any requests on extra credit books to be added to the schedule?

maven said...

Yeah! Whatever I say goes! LOL

I would suggest that we combine some reading: The Adventures of Alice and Through the Looking Glass (very fast reading) and The Third Policeman (a little more involving.

I would add Catch-22 (haven't read it in years and it was the actual name of an Episode).

maven said...

P.S. I know Catch-22 is already on the extra credit list, but maybe we should make it required for the month that The Third Policeman had (if we combine it with the Alice books).

Passafist said...

Maven,

I would suggest you grab a copy of the annotated Alice. You will never look at that story as a breazy read again. I've read the ALice books a number of times over the years!! I love that book, but it's like a fine wine, it needs to be savored.

Passafist said...

BTW... Dennis (and hopefully Chucklez) and I are going to be discussing Cloverfield on Thursday over at talkshoe.com at 5:30pm. If anybody wants to join in let me know!!

maven said...

David: Thanks for the advice. Even though I read the books pretty fast...I did take a lot of notes...I'm ready for discussions.

Love the dramatic prairie dog Chucklez.

As for extra credit books, I just finished The Time Traveler's Wife and I know I'm probably the last person to have read it, but my LOST QOTD has to do with that book and Island pregnancies. There may be an explanation for what happens to the Island moms in TTTW.

CattyGirl said...

Good morning! So much is going on it seems! I read this and it makes my mind race... Latest Harry Potter movie and then next weekend is the release of the last book! 10 years of Harry coming to an end - I can hardly believe it! Then comicon is the following week (no, I'm not going, but I'm sure there will be updates online)... in the meantime, the new JJ project which totally surprised me. I went to see Transformers on Friday and the Bad Robot stole the show! I can't keep up with this ARG, but I'm still glad it is happening. ;)

4400! I've been a fan since Season 2 (much like Lost) I watched a marathon of the first season and was hooked to start in on the 2nd and so on. I love these characters and I'm so glad the show keeps coming back!

Dennis said...

I received the first convincing evidence that Cloverfield and the Ethan Haas ARG are unrelated.

Check it out on my Cloverfield Blog, or in the Cloverfield podcast tomorrow!

I know what you mean. I just got back from getting my tickets for the Harry Potter movie tonight. They've already pre sold over a 100 tickets and they've only been open for a half hour. And I've had the last book pre-ordered for months it comes out on my birthday.
Can't wait for the updates from comic con. Plus the Cloverfield thing looks very interesting too.
Believe it or not I've never heard of 4400 till I seen it discussed here. I looked at the web site it looks interesting but I'm too far behind to catch up.

Dennis said...

Here is a screenshot of the Slusho t-shirt from the Cloverfield trailer.

Melissa_Lossa said...

My husband and I are off to see Harry Potter in a few hours! :) I have to work tonight, so we're taking the afternoon off to go. And I can't wait for the book next week - I'm going to a midnight release party.

I'll try to tune in for the Cloverfield podcast tomorrow. I am very intrigued. :)

Any other suggestions on the book club? I'm hesitant to add more "required" books, as I know that some people read slower than others, and are busier than others, and I don't want anyone to feel like they can't keep up. I'd rather name an "official" extra credit book each month - then people who want to chat more can. Thoughts anyone?

Amused2bHere said...

Thanks for the reminder, Sayid's Girl. I read your comment and went right away to get my tix online. Got them! Order of the Phoenix, here I come!

Whew. I have to wait until Sunday, but that's ok. It will be worth it.

I'm just about able to juggle one book a month right now, so I'm just as happy if things stay this way. But if you add more books I won't mind that either, I just will enjoy the discussion vicariously.

capcom said...

Passafist, all your work is very much appreciated! I'm not reading the books yet, and I don't do live podcasts, but I listen to them all after you post them!

And you're right, Annotated Alice is awesome! Carroll made so many funny references to the Brits and royalty in it, it's hilarious. Mother Goose is like that too.

Thanks Dennis for the sleuthing about EH and 1/18/08. Quite the coincidence of them both coming out at the same time. And what ex-TLE-er would not jump at the chance to believe TPTB smiled on us for another summer?! :-)

Dennis said...

My Cloverfield Screen Shots are up!

I switched-up some of the thumbnails accidentally, but it'll work for now until I can fix them.

scoutpost said...

Hey all!
melissa-lossa- regarding book club- I would vote for doubling up some books if they are short and/or easy to read. I read Watership Down and Wrinkle in Time last month with time to spare and am filling in this month with Tale of Two Cities (one of my fav books but haven't read it in a long time). Anyway- that's my $.02.

Wow- another ARG! Cool-even though not LOST related. I'll have to go check that out.

Hope everyone is having a good summer!

memphish said...

If you like time travel theories and LOST, I have another one today on my blog. Be sure and read Capcom's comments on yesterday's post about Island babies.

2costa said...

hey the ARG is not related to clover field right? How was it ever misconstrued that it was?

Dennis said...

I mentioned this on my Cloverfield Blog, but I first heard about the Ethan Haas stuff in this "news" story.

IIRC, I believe I found that story on DIGG, which is also where I initially found about the Cloverfield trailer.

capcom said...

Heheh, yeah I got a little wordy on your blog Memphish, but what you said really got me thinking! :o)

CattyGirl said...

Emily ( Melissa_Lossa ), I'm going with my husband tomorrow to see it. I doubt I will be disappointed - every trailer looks soooo good!

Dennis - if the ARG isn't part of jj's project then I doubt I'll bother trying to catch up. Thanks for the heads up!

maven said...

Seems everyone is trying very hard to keep the discussions going here. Memphish and Capcom: You're doing a great job on your blogs. Dennis, I've been checking out the Cloverfield blog, too. (I even listened in a little on the podcast...great summary of what's been happening there.) I'm still lurking (pearling) on the FARG over at Lost-TV. Personally, I'm just taking a summer break from any heavy analysis of the show. I think I actually talked hubby into watching Season 1 and trying to get him interested in the show! Wish me luck! LOL

Still looking forward to the Book Club discussions. Went to the library today and got some more to read! Just waiting the birth of our granddaughter (Elizabeth Erin) Sept. 20th. The Baby Showers (there are 2) are this weekend!

capcom said...

Tx Maven, and thanks for reminding us of the FARG, I keep forgetting to check on it! I hope it's not impossible to catch up on reading the forum, I haven't read anything since a few days after it started back up again.

Hey, everyone! Just checking in and seeing how everything is going. 2costa asked my question about Comic Con.

Hey, you've heard the joke that should accompany this post, right?
If a man speaks in a forest and there is no woman around to hear him is he still wrong?

Cool about the Cloverfield arg. I hope they keep doing more of these and maybe some day I can participate. Currently I'm watching all the Jericho episodes online. I didn't watch last season but the "nut bombing" got me interested. Good show. Had a thought about the babies on the island while watching the show. Radiation poisoning can make people infertile. Nice blog, Memphish. Nice pondering, Capcom.

Did you know that they are re broadcasting Jercho? They showed the first epsode last Friday and tomorrow at 8:00 they're showing the recap show they showed after it's hiatis. Then at 9:00 they're showing the next in line and following through to the end of the season.
If you're interested.
CBS claims that if they don't get enough "TV" viewers that they won't renew it. I say they need to catch up with the times. I hope they're not stupid enough to cancel it because of the internet viewers.

Twinkle said...

*sigh* I hope so too. How would they even know I was viewing it on the TV? I can never watch anything live anyway. We tape Lost and have found it's much better on my schedule to watch episodes of shows online.

Melissa_Lossa said...

ARG!!! (get it? Argh!!) I missed the Cloverfield podcast. Bummer! I was at work until after 7 today. Yuck. I'll have to listen in this weekend.

For anyone considering it, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was really good. I highly recommend it.

As far as the book club goes, we do actually have two books a month in August and September. We could discuss one for the first two weeks, and then the second the last two weeks of each month. I hate to change things for July since we're already so far in. Let me know what you guys think.

capcom said...

Great Cloverfield podcast guys! I just listened to it.

Everyone watch out. It's Friday the 13th, the day you may run into a hockey mask wearing, chainsaw wielding guy.

I downloaded the Cloverfield podcast and will check it out after my last day of VBS ends.

My LOST QOTD has to do with one of those suspend disbelief things today. I'll be sticking up a new post Sat. and Sun. as well, but then you'll have a week long break to think about any and/or all of those questions while I enjoy a week at the beach internet-free. Thanks to those of you who've clicked by and even posted comments.

And now for my personal book club update. I'm taking Lost Horizon and Pt. 2 of the Dark Tower series with me to the beach as well as A Brief History of Time though Im having a hard time getting motivated to read that one. Lost Horizon could go on the optional book lists. It's very short.

Happy Friday the 13th everyone! Just stopping in to say hello... it's been awhile. The whole Cloverfield thing looks interesting, I'll be following that when I can. Also, I meant to be more involved with the Book Club, but I've been so busy working and rereading the Harry Potter books in anticipation of the new book, that I haven't had time. Lastly, for those of you who remember my dilema about not knowing what I'd be doing this fall in terms of school, I still am not sure what I'm doing yet.

I would type more but I have a broken finger, so I'm typing one-handed right now. Its good to see this place again!

My L'Engle books came today! Yippee!

A Wrinkle in Time, here I come...

I got the full trilogy, so I might finish all of them before the discussion on the 25th. {Happy Dance}

And tomorrow...Potter!

Thanks again, Dennis, for the clever Cloverfield blog. Very nice job.

Oooh, nice avi Amused!

Be patient Luckyguy, things will fall into place soon. Hope your finger gets better soon too.

I just realized, did you say you're only reading only three books on vacay Memphish? You're slipping. :o) BTW, I think there is a version out now of A Brief History, with tons of graphics to aid in comprehension for non-physicists like us. And there is also another new good book by him with profuse illustrations as well. But Brief History is not so bad. I listened to the audio version in my car and did OK.

Agreed, it was a very stupid way to end Jericho like that originally. I'm glad that it will be back for some more info eventually. This inability of TV programmers to commit to finish of a serial show is pretty strange. It's almost as if the viewers can handle them better than the programmers/execs can.

And here's another topic for discussion. If you got a chance to ask a question at Comic Con, what would you ask?

Me I'd ask, "Given the leak of the finale last year and given that you'll wrap shooting with 10-12 episodes left to air in Season 4, how are you going to keep all that from leaking?"

hey all!

Finally saw Harry Potter 5 last night, and all I can say is wow. It captured the essence of the book, unfortunately they left lots of book details out but that's the way it goes when you do a screenplay. The book has so much more in it, always, yet this movie did the story justice, if not the book.

There's my review, imho. I can't wait for the dvd. Probly Christmas, eh?

Finished reading "A Wrinkle in Time". This one will be harder to relate to Lost, I think. At least not as obvious as "Watership Down".

Saw HP in Imax 3D on Friday - and what a blast! I'm most likely going to see it on a plain old big screen this weekend. I agree with amused that the movie does stand well on its own... now I'm just holding my breath waiting for the last book. I'm so afraid of being spoiled that I won't even browse online in fear I'll come across something. ;)

Ange said...

amused: I saw HP this weekend, and I completely agree with you. Although it was definitely not a stand alone, in that the friend I saw it with was totally lost as she had not read the book. And I was a little disgruntled that one of my favorites from the book was but a blip in the movie.

As for Wrinkle...I have loads of notes to compare it to Lost. However the comparisons are certainly a different sort than Watership's were.

Amused2bHere said...

Chucklez, you're a riot. I hope I didn't talk too much during the movie. That's what you get for sitting next to me!

Hey, everybody! I wanted to drop this link your way: http://www.figures.com/databases/action.cgi?setup_file=mmnews2.setup&category=movies&topic=2&show_article=63

It's some great pictures and a review of the new Lost figures. I have them pre-ordered, so I'll post my own photos on my blog when I get them. They look amazing!

I also have to agree with everyone who has seen Harry Potter. I thought it was a great movie, and they did a really good job adapting the book. Book 5 is SO packed with stuff, it must have been quite a task to whittle it down enough. There were a few scenes that I wish had been in there, just because I love them so much, but I don't think their exclusion took away from the movie at all.

I can't wait for the last book! I'm also trying to avoid all spoilers - but it's hard not to read everything Harry Potter related online!

Melissa_Lossa said...

Harry Potter fans - mugglenet.com is a great SPOILER-FREE site if you want whet your appetite for the new book. They have a section on Book 7, where they have debunked rumors, things that are known for sure (I guess these could be considered spoilers, although they're pretty mild) and my favorite - loose ends. Here's the link right to that section: http://mugglenet.com/books/futurebooks/book7/looseends.shtml

Here they talk about questions that are still out there. No spoilers, unless you haven't read all of the first six books yet, but there are definitely some questions in there that I had forgotten about or not considered. I can't wait for Friday!

The Order of the Phoenix movie just shows you what a good director can do. I'm glad he's doing the next movie too. I don't know about you guys but I hated The Prisoner of Azkaban movie that crazy director tried to turn it into "art". Just my opinion. Tuesday night or Wed afternoon, either way just let me know about the Book Club podcast. I'll try to be there!

Are we gonna have more guys there this time? Hey fellas, are ya game or what?

Perhaps later is better, as they may need time to get home from work.

just my two cents...

Melissa_Lossa said...

hey, passafist - sadly, I cannot make either of those times for a podcast. If you want, I can just send you some questions and you can talk amongst yourselves. Let me know what you want to do.

Later is usually better for me, as I don't get out of work until at least 5.

Sayid's girl - I agree about the Harry Potter movies. I like Prisoner of Azkaban okay, but to me, it feels like a Cliffs Notes version of the book, more than any of the others. I understand that they can't fit everything from a book into a movie, but that one feels very choppy to me.

Maven - how do you like 24? Which season are you on? Personally, I like seasons 1, 3 and 5 the best - 5 is an absolute masterpiece. Season 6 was pretty lame, and I'm hoping that things pick up next year! I got my husband hooked with the season 1 DVDs, and we've been watching ever since. :)

Passafist said...

Hmmm.. well we can do it later?? What about 6pm on Tuesday or Thursday?

Melissa_Lossa said...

I could do 6 p.m. on Thursday.

chucklez3 said...

yeah dennis. carl's jr. is the best. when i was in cali, i used to get the bacon-swiss chicken sandwich. and they put ranch on it.

hardee's has that sandwich but puts MAYONAISE on it!!!! *blech*!!

chucklez3 said...

i'd vote for thursday at 6pm, too. i get off work at 6 and could try to call as soon as i get out of the cell-phone "dead zones" on the way home.

maven said...

6pm Thursday (3pm for me) would be good.

Melissa_lossa: We're almost through with season 1 of 24. We did watch the season that just ended and heard all the complaints about it being the lamest (too much office romance). We're glad we decided to watch it from the beginning...a lot of discs to go through!

Dennis: Thanks for the fast food update! (Since I constantly diet, I don't frequent those places! LOL)

Melissa_Lossa said...

maven - I think all of the season's are good, with the exception of the newest one. Mostly, they just get better as they go on.

Amused2bHere said...

6pm on Thursday gets my vote!

On Harry Potter: Melissa, I agree with you. Although I think "Prisoner of Azkaban" was a bare bones version of the book, I didn't find it choppy. I was ok with most of the subplots that got left out of the movie, especially the house elf liberation stuff.

"Order of the Phoenix", however, was very choppy, very Cliffs Notes. There was so much more that not only could have been done but (I think) should have been done. After all, if they can take 3 hours each to tell the Lord of the Rings trilogy, they can take 3 hours to tell a Harry Potter book. So put in a 5 or 10minute intermission, but tell the story!

ok, rant over.

chucklez3 said...

yeah, but Lord of the Rings was 3 films. Not 5. And they were all filmed at one time.

Sad thing with Potter, is they do one at a time and we basically are guaranteed 7, total.

Basically, my point is this. They probably figure that since they've now made 5 films, the last thing they want to do is make them 3 hours long. Some people who aren't fans of the books might be getting tired of them by now. Hahahaha. I dunno. Just playing devil's advocate.

Eh. haha. talk to you all later.

chucklez3 said...

also, keep in mind, the lord of the rings was probably more anticipated than any of the harry potter movies. I'd go to see the LOTR trilogy AGAIN at the theater. However, I doubt I could do the same for Harry Potter.

but as for entertainment value:

I stand behind my earlier statment of.......

1. Transformers
2. Live Free or Die Hard
3. Harry Potter
4. Spidey 3

**keep in mind, I didn't see Fantastic Four 2 yet. So who knows?

The above was listed as the most entertaining and most fun I've had at the movies so far this year.

in all fairness.....I think I missed Harry Potter 4 though. I saw Prisoner of Azkaban and the first two.

Eh.

Morning All
They had the Emmy nominations on the Today show this morning and according to the Emmys website the only nominations for the actors were Terry O'Quinn and Michael Emmerson for supporting actor. Of course the show itself was not nominated for a drama series.

maven said...

Morning:

I just woke up to the Emmy news. Oh, well...I'm thankful Terry and Michael got the nominations, at least! It's just so frustrating that TPTB for the Emmys just don't get the greatness and depth of LOST and nominate pure entertaining "fluff" like Gray's Anatomy (I watch that show, but it's so superficial and has no mythology and nuances like Lost). We did get some technical nominations...Jack Bender for directing, Single-camera editing -- both for TTLG, Sound editing and Writing for a Series.

2costa said...

it would seem i was right about richard maybe not being back on lost, the cbs exec behind nester's new show cane said they prolly wouldnt let him do guest spots on lost, but i imagine cane will get canceled before it becomes an issue, considering its on cbs and not a procedural crime drama or military crime drama ...:)

scoutpost said...

Wow- the Emmy news is a bit of a shocker. I really thought that the last part of Season 3 was really good and was bound to get more Emmy nods- esp. in best drama. I also thought Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet) would get a nomination. *rant*- I just don't get all the hype around Grey's Anatomy. I mean isn't it just a night time soap opera? The episodes I've watched are ok, but nothing new or original- I just don't see what everyone else sees in that show!- *end rant* It will be interesting to see how Heroes does next year in the nominations. See if they drop Heroes like a hot potato just like they did LOST.
Oh well- at least LOST has got one of the most dedicated fan bases out there. That has to count for something!
I love my kids- but am so glad school starts again in 3 weeks! woo hoo!

Sayid'sgirl said...

I agree with you Grey's Anatomy is nothing more than a night time soap for people who don't have time to watch daytime soaps. No substance.

So vacation was very relaxing and I managed to read The Drawing of the Three (Dark Tower Pt. 2), Lost Horizon, and the first 6 chapters of A Brief History of Time and 2 non-LOST related books, though 1 of them gave me a blog post idea. More on those in days to come.

And now I have a LOST QOTD for you. Actually it's a number of questions for Danielle coming from the episode Solitary. Danielle's story is so confusing. She seems to know a lot and yet so little at the same time, so be sure to check it out.

I'm looking forward to discussing A Wrinkle in Time. Do you have dates and times set in stone yet?

Dennis said...

I was checking out the new posts over at Lost Ninja. They are only up to "Greatest Hits" so far, but he had an interesting theory on Charlie's swimming ability:

In Charlie's fourth Greatest Hits flashback, we find him as a boy being taught to swim by his father. His brother Liam is telling him not to jump, as his father will surely move. As Charlie steps nervously to the poolside, however, a voice can be heard in the background, yelling "Come on, let's go - Desmond!"

At the end of the episode, Desmond lies unconscious in the canoe with a list of the five key moments in Charlie's life resting in his pocket. Knowing the importance of Charlie being able to swim, is it possible that Desmond somehow travelled into Charlie's past and altered the event so that Charlie can swim in the present and be the saviour they all require?

memphish said...

Dennis, I remember hearing that theory about Desmond being at the pool when Greatest Hits aired here. I still can't figure out how TPTB are going to deal with Desmond "changing" the past. It seems to open up too many cans of worms.

Speaking of changing the past, anyone who has read Drawing of the 3, Roland changes the past of someone pretty significantly near the end of the book, does King manage to reconcile this at some point in the future? A simple "yes/no/yes, but it's not convincing" answer will suffice. And who else thinks that Charlie was based on Eddie Dean?

chucklez3 said...

dennis: i hope not.

never was excited about the time travel idea but i DO like the idea of the flash forwards (in MY mind) being future shots of "cause and effect".

example: the first flash forward is a future that will be because of jack's ultimate decision-making on the island. However, Locke was told by "Walt" that he still has work to do. (i think that's the same "entity" that spoke to Eko and Ben, etc. Smokey, the island....whatever).

Anyway, Locke's work is to prevent certain futures and/or to CAUSE some. i think he saw that he couldn't stop Jack, so he's now off to alter the future another way.

So.......now, the next flash forward will be based on the next major decisions made. Etc. and so-on.

Now, THAT'S an idea I can wrap my mind around.

what do you think scooby gang?

Kelvin had a swan logo...i liked the secret clue where they played the room 23 clip backwards and it said something like "Only fools are trapped by time and space" and the guy watching the door from its always sunny in phily was reading a breif history of time. I saw that back masked on you tube before but to have a lost site affirm what is being said is cool...

but another reason I'm not "all for it" is because I think Charlie is more of a hero if Desmond did NOT interfere.

Don't mind Desmon seeing the future so-to-speak and what-not. Just not a fan of the time travel.

However, I'm NOT 100% AGAINST it either. eh.
