capcom, sadly my old typewriter is plastic.... I wonder what my old hand crank-type egg beater is worth?

amused, don't you hate it when they snicker?:) We can be content knowing that, one day, they will be in the same boat:) (which, of course, is why the mother's curse works!)

another question I'd like answered is how did Juliet really get to the island?

Happy Lost Day!

amused, I am definitely looking forward to a new season of Monk. I believe 4400 is back this summer, as is The Dead Zone. I hope that TDZ gets its act together and becomes a good show again - the last couple of seasons have really been lacking.

Speaking of lacking - here's a OT rant: Is anyone else watching 24 this season? Can you believe how TERRIBLE it is? Lost fans complain about the show going downhill, but man. 24 has sailed downhill, smashed into a tree and overturned into a lake in my opinion. Yikes!

ib4uc said...

codysmom... LOL the mother's curse. I know that only too well. When I was pregnant with my first child, my mom said "I hope you have a daughter and she treats you the way you treated me (in my rebellious teen years)". Well, she got her wish and my daughter is only 10 1/2 years. Oh, what fun years lie ahead...

Black Swan said...

Hey, melissa.. Where'd the sunshine go? and, I'm freezing! My daughter was just saying how she thought 24 wasn't as good this year. I tend to agree (and I really miss Tony & Michelle). I haven't even watched this week's yet; I tivo'd 24 and watched Heroes instead. I think season3 Lost has been great!!!!

ib4uc, see? the curse works:) (I think that's why my grown, married children are dragging their feet giving me grandchildren, ha ha).

Erich said...

Melissa: As much as I'd love to disagree with you about 24, it's been a pretty disappointing season. Still, I didn't think it was "terrible"...until this whole saving-Audrey subplot started.

Since we're all waiting for tonight's Lost to get back on topic, I won't feel too bad about discreetly giving you this link to the running 24 Season Six commentary on our blog. We do write about Lost too, if that makes a difference.

Speaking of tonight's episode, I hope I didn't have all those "Congratulations Jin" cigar wrappers printed up for nothing...

maven said...

Capcom said: Maven, what show did your dad write for?
Thanks for asking...Dad was the original writer on the original "Steve Allen Show". He went on to become a comedy writer for most of the variety shows of the 60's, 70's and 80's like "The Smothers Brothers" and "Flip Wilson" (won an Emmy for "The Carol Burnett Show"). Wrote for "Get Smart" and created a sorta cult classic: "Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp".

I, too, don't know how involved I would get if there was a TLE-2. As hubby can attest: it just took over my life last summer! LOL It was a great experience (and I met this community), but the payoff was disappointing.

Melissa_lossa: Is anyone else watching 24 this season? Can you believe how TERRIBLE it is?
Agreed! All the office romance stuff is so aggravating! OMG, the world is about to blow up and all you can think about is your office worker's pants! LOL

Memphish: With only 6 more hours of LOST in 2007 (not counting recap shows), what's the one question you really hope gets answered before then?
I want a complete of history of Dharma/Others! (I don't ask for much!)

Erich said...

Maven: Your dad created "Lancelot Link"? I loved that show! Granted, I wasn't around when it was first on, but they repeated it a bunch when I was younger...I think it was on Nickelodeon...

There's really nothing funnier than chimps fake-talking. Ah, Mata Hairy. Those were the days!

maven said...

Thanks, Erich! I know one of you would know that show! LOL It was sure fun growing up with my Dad (unfortunately, he passed away 5 years ago.)

Melissa_Lossa said...

Thanks for the link, Erich - I'll have to check it out. I do enjoy your Lost blogs.

It's so disappointing because I love 24, but it's just not the same. I miss Tony and Michellle a lot - these new people just don't cut it. Especially Milo - does he have any work? He's been roaming around CTU moping at everyone for like four weeks/hours! Come on! He just got shot in the shoulder. Tony got shot in the next a few years back, and he was back running the show few hours later.

Even Sawyer took a bullet to the shoulder better than Milo has. See how I circled back to Lost there at the end? ;)

codysmom - it is miserable here, too... cold and rainy. And I think season 3 of Lost has been great as well! Too badd both my favorite shows can't hold it together!

Erich said...

Maven: It must have been a blast! Even though it was several years ago, allow me to offer my condolences.

Does that mean you grew up in California?

I find TV fascinating (I guess I must or I wouldn't be on this site). As much as the switch to serialized dramas has had its share of problems (copy-catting and increasingly frustrating cancellations), I think it's the perfect genre for the medium.

I came across a great TV-related blog recently: teevee.org. They don't post much, but they're very smart and funny (as is their way-too-seldom podcast).

Melissa_Lossa said...

And of course, Tony was shot in the NECK, not the NEXT.

Erich said...

Melissa: I agree that 24 has suffered from killing off most of its best characters. Good job on bringing the conversation back to Lost at the end, by the way.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Actually - I have another way to tie the conversation together. :) I hope that Lost learns from 24's mistake. It is NOT a good idea to kill off too many beloved characters. Then you end up with no one that the audience cares about. Milo and Nadia are a perfect example - the writers are trying to make them the new Tony and Michelle, but let's face it. They ain't no Tony and Michelle.

I just had to share that my WV is fvucks. Ha! Yes, that's childish.

maven said...

Eric: Yeah, I grew up in LA area when "The Steve Allen Show" moved out to Hollywood.

And I watch waaaay too much TV (as hubby and also attest to!) But LOST is the only show that has gotten me so involved, which (to me) means a great series! (See, I got the topic back to LOST! LOL) Although, I guess we're all just killing time until tonight!

FYSB said...

Maven...Lancelot Link???? That's so cool. I remember you mentioned the Steve Allen show once, but all those others as well...your dad made us laugh a lot. What a legacy.

(my fellow office dwellers don't understand why i'm laughing to myself....I was thinking of CHUMP and the chimp with the monocle...hard to explain to these kids)

I'm with you on 24 this season. Yikes! sums it up quite nicely.

Memphish

The one mystery that i would like solved by the end of the season is "smokey". What and why is it and does anybody control it.

Melissa_Lossa said...

The one question I would like to have answered this season is, will Kate end up with Jack or Sawyer?

Ha, ha, I kid, I kid! No, I think it's what really happened when Desmond turned that key? What were all of the consequences?

Melissa_Lossa said...

erich, your 24 blog is SO funny! And true!

maven said...

FSBY: Yeah, my Dad played a part in the history of television. I'm glad you still get a chuckle out of Lancelot Link!

maven said...

Erich, your 24 blog recap was hilarious and right on point! OMG...Daniels becomes acting prez and the first thing he does is hit on his Chief of Staff! Yuck!

memphish said...

Great answers to my one mystery question. For those of you just tuning in, what one mystery do you want solved before the end of this season?

Next question for those of us killing time until tonight (only 7 more hours for me) - what one character death do you predict, do you want or not want by the end of the season? No spoilers please.

Me - I want Juliet to die. Like none of you saw that coming. If one of our original Losties has to die though, I pick a heroic self-sacrificing Sawyer death. I don't think we'll get it this season though.

FYSB said...

Hey...weren't we supposed to be seeing Libby in some flashbacks? What happened to that I wonder?

Oh no, melissa_lossa! Once you put the question out there, it stays! Jater v. Skater is all you get.... Mwahhahahha

I want to know about the Adam and Eve and the four toed foot statue!

Wow, maven! What an impressive list! Showing my age here, but I remember everything except "Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp". Did he test out jokes on you and the family?

I agree, melissa, let's hope Lost doesn't get rid of beloved characters (like 24)! I'm especially worried since it's getting toward the end of the season!! (Haven't read any spoilers-just hoping)

Erich said...

My Mystery: How Locke was healed

Death Prediction: Tom (though I'd be sad if it actually happened. When you take away the Walt-kidnapping and attempted Sawyer-Jin-Michael-icide, he's just a big ol' teddy bear)

This may be a dumb question, but is Lost officially going to a winter-spring no-repeat format (like 24)? If so, it's gonna be tough to wait, but it certainly has worked well for Bauer and Co. That said, 24 is much more stand alone, season to season.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, one last thought on 24 - evil advisor blondie HAS to be some sort of mole or spy or something. That make out scene was so icky, and even she looked grossed out.

As far as a Lost death goes, I'm predicting anyone but Charlie. It's too set up. I'd like to see Juliet, too. Frankly, I wouldn't mind seeing Kate, either, but I doubt that will happen.

FYSB said...

My wish for a grisly death - JACK!!! May he get tossed through the air by Smokey, bitten by Medusa spiders, blown up by Artz's dynamite and whatever is left should be consumed by a Dharma shark.

Did I mention that he annoys me a bit? I just can't take one more of his "trust me and my lousy ideas" glares.

wow, that was cathartic.

maven said...

Memphish: what one character death do you predict, do you want or not want by the end of the season? No spoilers please.
I think that Tom will go. I think he might be double-crossing Ben (and helping Jack). He has become sort of sympathetic (despite when we first met him), and his demise will just enough of a shock without getting rid of one of the major characters.

Codysmom: Wow, maven! What an impressive list! Showing my age here, but I remember everything except "Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp". Did he test out jokes on you and the family?
Yeah, Dad was a lot of fun to grow up with and he was always funny..even on his deathbed! When told he was going to be the funniest one in heaven, he said "I'm not going to heaven, I'm going to Costco!"

Scoutpost said...

Wow Maven, I didn't realize your dad wrote for all those shows, and won an Emmy! how cool!

re: another ARG- well I wouldn't necessarily want another one either, I just wish they'd throw me some kind of bone(s) this summer- like an oceanicair.com or some of those mobisodes we heard of.

One of the positive things about TLE: increasing my tech knowledge and skills, so I can handle an ipod, etc. and hopefully prolong any snickering I might get from my kids.

re: the question I want answered- codysmom already said it- who or what is Jacob? 2nd- memphish's question about how can Ben consider himself "good"? and 3rd- what is the connection between the 4 toed statue and the Others? (not that you asked for a 2nd and 3rd- oh well)

erich said...
Speaking of tonight's episode, I hope I didn't have all those "Congratulations Jin" cigar wrappers printed up for nothing...

Yeah that would be a bummer! LOL

Scoutpost said...

fysb- I'm right there with you on your feelings toward Jack. I've always had a problem with him and been in the Locke camp. Although now Locke is ticking me off, too. I'm going to become an Aaron fan.

Melissa_Lossa said...

I also agree about Jack. If I have to watch him weep his way through one more flashback, I'll scream! I'm kind of hoping that Sawyer and Sayid team up and take him down.

memphish said...

Hey hey, this was supposed to lead to Juliet bashing, not Jack bashing, though if Jack bashes Juliet (and I mean that euphamistically), then I'll join the Jack-bashers too.

Scoutpost said...

memphish I thought you were mad at Jack. Have you forgiven him?

Seriously though, I have a feeling someone major is going to buy the farm- Jack, Locke, Ben, Desmond...? who knows?

My new motto: Save the baby (Aaron) save the world!

bigdog said...

just a quick drive by.
question to ask - Where the hell is michael and walt?

Death- anyone but sawyer/hurley. but since jack has lost his mind lately i will put his neck on the block.

enjoy everyone.

memphish said...

Scoutpost, as for Jack if he continues to be an idiot as he has the last 2 weeks, Jack is still on my bad list. I keep hoping that he's not such an idiot and has some double cross to play on Juliet. How he handles Sun's stuff tonight might make things clearer. What with Locke missing, I guess Jack is the current Island putz.

FYSB said...

Sorry Memphish, I actually kinda like Juliet. Multidimensional evil is more interesting to me than "wah, my daddy is mean to me". Honestly, I want Juliet to bash Jack repeatedly with the severed dead arm of Christian Shepherd.

Erich said...

My my, so much Jack hate. I'm still a fan. He's got his character flaws, just like the rest of our gypsies tramps and thieves. I'm willing to see where he ends up. If his worst sin is giving his heart to a woman of questionable virtue, we can't be too hard on him. Dude's been through a lot!

Joseph Finchum said...

Happy Lost Day Loco's,

Yhe one thing I want answered is...

Does it count as a point if the ping pong ball goes to where the corner of the table used to be?

or

how good of a shot with an AK-47 is Aaron...lol

Anyway c-ya all later

memphish said...

Erich, If Cher shows up on the Island, I'm blaming you. :) Now that I think about it our brief glimpse of parachute girl could have been a very, very young Cher.

Joseph Finchum said...

AS to the question of who should die...

I vote for Blue shirt female sock #4
or Khaki pants male Other #7

And thats it... no one else can die.

Scoutpost said...

dang FYSB- get off my brain wave! You and I are thinking a lot alike. Juliet and even Ben are kind of growing on me. I've crossed over- oh no!

Scoutpost said...

oh yeah ded- khaki pants male Other #7 for sure. He's got to go!

Erich said...

Whether or not Jack knows about Juliet's con, I can't be mad at him. If he knows, then he's brilliant. If not, I just feel bad for the guy. His wife cheats on him, he sees his island crush gettin' mauled in a bear cage, and then he finds out his latest squeeze was just using him?

Man, after all that I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the gay character on the island!

memphish said...

Maybe Jack and Jin, Erich?

Erich said...

Memphish: I dunno. He and Tom seem a better match. "Mr. Friendly" indeed!

...I guess I should stop...

Ange said...

Drive-by comment...gosh it has been a busy week. I hate it when work cuts into my Losting. Always reading the comments, just don't always have time to post. Anyway, happy Lost Day, and my question is: What are they digging for? Who I wouldn't mind seeing offed, well Jack, he makes me grumpy.

Capcom said...

Nice avi, Sayidsgirl!

Codysmom, for one retro handcrank eggbeater, I have seem prices from $5-$20, depending on the year, make, and condition. But don't get me started on vintage kitchen gadgets, I am addicted.

Lancelot Link?! No way! One of my favorites. And the Smothers Bros too. Wow, Maven, he did all the great ones! Right Erich, Mata Hairy, I was trying to remember what her name was! :o) I wish that we could tell your dad how we appreciate him making such great childhood memories for us Maven. :-X

Perhaps 24 is suffering from the same network-beancounters-buttinsky-itis that Lost seems to be getting, "The rating are down, let's have more sex! And some thong action too!" :-( I was really grossed out when Kate shoved her hand down Sawyer's pants. I'm no prude, but that was super gratuitous!

Save the baby....good one! :o)

FYSB said...

Ha, Scoutpost! Isn't the dark side fun? But ded raises a good point, that khaki wearing fella is just asking for it.

erich, you're more forgiving than I am. Jack wouldn't have seen the hot bear cage lovin if he hadn't been such an idiot...leading them to an Other trap and allowing them to get captured without even mentioning to Kate and Sawyer that Michael was setting them up.

Capcom said...

Ded, is that how some of the extras are listed in the credits? LOL!

Capcom said...

I agree FYSB, they had a right to know where they were going. King Jack didn't feel that they had a need to know.

memphish said...

That's why I don't have much hope for a Jack double-cross. Even if he's smart enough to have an idea, his ideas usually don't work out primarily because he doesn't trust anyone else enough to help him.

Capcom said...

Right Memphish, and him with his "Live together" schtick. More like, "Trust me, but I won't trust you." :-p

memphish said...

I think Erich may be on the right track at least with friends for Jack. First Sarah's supposed to have his back, but no. Then Kate, but no. Now Juliet, but no (I hope). He just needs to let Sawyer or Tom Friendly be his friend.

Tess315 said...

Thanks capcom
I'm sure you know who I wouldn't want to die,but being ex military I'm worried about him.
Now who would I want to die that's tough. I honestly wouldn't want to see any of the current Losties die. The only one I wouldn't miss is Jack but I don't see him dying and I really wouldn't want to see him die. So I guess I'd have to go with Juliet or maybe Tom but I kinda like Tom too.

Erich said...

Jack was forced into being strong for everyone from the very start. It would make sense that his "default" leadership position would end up magnifying his flaws, nicely setting up his need for redemption and forgiveness by his fellow Losties.

He's only one man. Think about all the mistakes everyone else has made. I think the reason everyone's especially hard on Jack is because he's been the leader—held to a higher standard.

Capcom said...

Is this a given thing, that we have heard of a death happening before this season is up? Oh dear.

I'd like to see a bizarre death of Sheriff Scary (maybe on the lines of Capt.Ahab being lashed to Moby Dick), but only accompanied by a flashback of a very weird life story of how she got so gnarly and scary, and managed to get the job she has in Otherton. Maybe she's Mrs. Jacob, and so has certain bennies with the title? Like in the Pretender, "I get to say who lives and dies!" :o)

OK, forget my main Q about the blast door map. I think that I would like to know Rousseau's entire story. For real, not just more of her crazy cryptic rantings.

FYSB said...

Erich, you're very nice and logical and you have great reasons to support Jack. And you have a very sound analysis about his flaws.

However, I don't think I'm holding Jack to a standard because he is/was the leader, I just dislike his whiny flashbacks and his insistence that people blindly follow him. Also, the shape of his mouth really bothers me.

Tess315 said...

I'm not hard on him because he's been the leader and I hold him to a higher standard. I just have never thought much of his leadership skills to begin with, not to say he hasn't tried his best to be a good leader. He just seems to fall a little short. But I don't think I could deal with someone like Locke a want to be leader in my face all the time either.

Tess315 said...

fysb
Looks like we were thinking along the same lines.

Capcom said...

Very nice psych-profile Erich! Seriously. But Jack's mistakes don't annoy me. What annoys me is that he so often acts like a crybaby, and was so very impatient and rude to Locke in S2. Locke (back then) was just trying to be helpful (before he blew the Swan up) and Jack was alwasys so very mean to snarky to him. Just not called for at all, when you are trying to survive. And Jack is sometimes like that to the other Losties as well. I would have slapped him bunches of times by now, if I were on the island.

Erich said...

fysb: I don't really care if Jack lives or dies, as long as it serves the story. I just see more potential for an interesting story if he lives and has to face the consequences of his blind trust of Juliet and his arrogance than if he dies at this point. No matter what we think of his actions, Jack is an important character in this story. It's probably more important in the end to keep around the characters we feel strongly about (pro as well as con) than getting rid of them because they annoy us.

Capcom said...

FYSB, are you talking about how his mouth gets when he gets pissed and he gets that sarcastic smirk, and he kind of goes, "Heh..heh.." before he makes a self-righteous wisecrack back? I hate that look. :o)

FYSB said...

no worries, erich. the question was "what one character death do you predict, do you want or not want by the end of the season?" there was no requirement of advancing the story, so i did indeed opt to off the person that annoyed me most. i can't imagine it will really happen.

FYSB said...

capcom...YES!!! That's exactly it.

Capcom said...

You're right Erich, like or dislike, I still think that Jack is a hellovva good character for the story, IMHO. Good, but not too good. Bad at times, but not too bad. I could be wrong, but I see him as a character that you don't really know which way he will go...will he take the high road, or the low road, in his decisions.

BTW, to me, Kate was one of the low roads and Jules is the high road. Don't shoot me ladies who hate Jules!!! :o)

Erich said...

fysb: true true! That was the question, and I picked Tom for no good reason so I certainly can't find fault!

Tess315 said...

I don't particularly want Jack to die I just wouldn't miss him if he did. I agree that he that he is probably important to the story. I don't like having someone die just to for the sake of killing off a character each season either it has to serve the story.
Right now though I'd pobably vote Hurley the new leader he seemed to be doing a pretty good job while Jack was gone. Sawyer and Sayid could be his Sheriffs.

Scoutpost said...

Well it's a good thing LOST isn't a reality show that the fans vote on, otherwise I'd say that Jack is going home tonite.
For me Jack seems a bit two faced- on the one hand he's the reluctant but brave leader, on the other hand he has a big head and goes all power hungry with his own plans. And I agree with capcom, he was really snarky to Locke in season 2. Albeit that Locke was acting a little lulu that season.

Black Swan said...

pointing and getting ready to shoot, capcom!

How about this... Cooper dies!!

Scoutpost said...

I agree sayid's girl, Hurley is showing a lot of promise in the leadership department. I really hope Sayid doesn't die, he really is one of the only voices of common sense on that beach.

fysb
Oh poor Sanjaya. I really liked him not to say he was a great singer. He was just a sweet kid.
Although I know nobody here agrees with me. It's just the mama bear in me I guess.

Black Swan said...

I'm sorry, had to get that out of my system...

memphish said...

Juliet with her hair issues is the Sanjay of LOST. The Salon Hatch has spoken!

memphish said...

Sanjaya. Better get my fingers in better working order before airtime. :)

Capcom said...

Well, I think that if any of our original Losties, Dez, or Ben get killed I will be shocked, and will not like it very much at all. Even though I like Juliet, if she died, I guess that we know enough of her story to benefit the mythos thus far, unless TPTB have more in store for her.

Maybe Jules will try to help Sun tonight, and Sun tells her to get her stinking-Other-mitts off of her, and shoots her? :o)

Capcom said...

Sayidsgirl, I saw Sanjaya on Jay Leno, and he seemed incredibly sweet. Even Leno said nice things to him and "Stay sweet" or something like that, as in giving him advice for surviving in "the business".

FYSB said...

memphish, the salon hatch makes me laugh!

maybe they could dig nikki and paolo up and kill them again.

memphish said...

Good plan FYSB. I hope we don't get thunderstorms here tonight. I hate watching LOST with Doppler radar in the corner.

Dennis said...

Here's some interesting ratings numbers for Lost. Nielson is now releasing "Timeshifted" ratings:

Lost ranks #2 in total timeshifted viewers (House #1), and #2 in % gain (The Office #1)

Lost had 10.8 million "live" viewers, and 2.5 million timeshifters (22.8%).

Here is the complete list.

UUGGHHH! I HATE THAT!

It's even worse in the winter when they have the school closings running at the bottom, so they either squish the picture or cover up subtitles!

BTW, why can't they show the letterbox version of the show on standard def channels? They do it for other shows, like The Office...

If they showed the letterbox version, they could show all that stuff in the black bar area.

Or better yet, why don't they just have the weather updates during the commercials???

This endeth the rant...

Black Swan said...

THE WORST was the time they did a monthly required test (of the emergency system) right in the middle of Widmore's speech to Desmond when he was talking about McCutcheon!!!

I STILL can't believe that did that during Lost!!!!
end rant.....

Black Swan said...

sorry, can't believe they did that..

thinbluemime said...

My one unanswered question I'd like answered is actually two questions:

1) Why was Jack's mother Margo, NOT at his wedding to Sarah? She could not have been dead, because it was she that sent Jack to Australia to retrieve Christian Shepard.

2) Why does Neil Frogurt have funky ears? Seriously! This was memtioned by Cuse and Lindelof during their SOS podcast, and has yet to be resolved. Is little Neil a mutant?

WOW, you guys are a riot! And a lot of you have a real death wish for good ole Jack! Any character that creates so much discussion warrants sticking around.

Re networks and local stations running banners and info on the screen when LOST is on...I hate when that happens. Also, do any of you with Directv in HD have pixalation problems and dropped audio at times. We seem to get it from time to time mostly on ABC-HD. We've tried everything to "fix" it, but it's still there...annoying!

Capcom said...

Maven, I don't have HDTV, but I get that pixelating/blackout problem on my cable. With analog, if there was a glitch in the signal it would just get a little static line or pop, hardly noticable. With digital, the whole dang thing, or most of it, picsels/blacks out becuase it's an on-or-off deal with digital. Bah humbug. Now if the cable's not your problem (check all connections too), and it's with the HDTV setup, I have no idea. My TV is still in caveman-mode. :o)

I like analog radios better too. :-p
