I can't wait to hear the latest and greatest. Happy Lost Day eve!
It's 7:04 am CST. I got up early to see if the new podcast was ready to be posted. Blogger is telling me that Dennis posted it at 4:56 am. Way to go Dennis! Talk about dedication!
Happy Lost Day eve to you cattygirl!
Good morning Locos. Been in lurk mode for the past couple of days. Read up on all of the comments in the previous post -- way to go Locos. Great thoughts by everyone.
Cattygirl,
Thanks for telling me about the new thread.
I'll repost my last 2 things:
Looking forward to the TLC podcast. There's a new Official Podcast up as well.
Warning: There are definitely spoilers in the OLP. Keep that in mind before you listen or read summaries of the OLP.
3 Clarifications from the OLP. The box is a metaphor, not a refrigerator box in the jungle. DL and CC imply that Kate's horse, Sayid's cat and Jack's dad may have come from the box. Does this mean they are not Smokey? Don't know. They don't talk about that.
They also say the sub really blew up, and they discuss potential factionalization of the Others for those of you who were discussing that here yesterday.
The music Jack was playing on the piano was written by Michael Giacchino and performed by non-piano player Matthew Fox.
Maybe Tom quotes Alvar as part of the con that that the Others are Dharma. It's the same sort of con Mikhail attempted. Maybe Ben's Plan A was to pretend to be Dharma.
memphish... regarding the sub really blowing up. I was hoping Locke stashed it away as part of his own "agenda" and to get the upper hand with the others.
Administrator said... Way to go Dennis! Talk about dedication!
LOL! I'm on EDT, so I have an hour on you :)
David, I really like your theory that Locke thinks he's a Christ-like figure in service of the Island. Restoring the Island to Eden. That was great.
Here's my addition to the theory. I think that all of Locke's actions are designed to ward off Eko's prediction that "He's next." Locke, like Ben, was getting off track. What the Island did to Eko was a warning to John. But now John is back in true service to the Island and is cleansing the temple, just like you said.
Good podcast guys.
Good Morning Locos
What is up memphish-
Been in lurk mode because I have been busy as heck at work. We are moving to a new office space and there is just not enough time in the day as we prepare for the fun task of moving in a few weeks.
Great comments as always locos and I look forward to hearing the podcast later. Thanks for the recap on OLP, memphish. I had forgotten about Mr. Eko telling Locke he was next to cash in. That adds a new twist to last weeks eps.
Hey jgz350. Sorry to hear work is interfering with LOST. LOL. Will you be around tomorrow night? If so, I'll catch you then.
Yeah memphish, work is interfering with LOST, not cool. I plan on being here after the episode tomorrow, so I will look for you then. Oh, I like your avatar.
Just checking in before I go listen to the podcasts.
happy Lost Eve!
too bad about the sub. I was hoping Locke was conning Ben. That would have been poetic.
oh well.
Morning Lost Day Eve!
Just listened to the Podcast. I don't know...sometimes I think we theorize toooo much! LOL Sometimes things are just what they are. (Sometimes they're not.)
David, I think your crazy theory of the week with Locke as Jesus is a little overboard, but there is some merit there. I don't know if he's Jesus, but I think he does want to keep the island as a sort of Eden and keep the outside world from enroaching on the one place he feels secure. He doesn't want anyone to leave and try to return with the cavalry.
Off to listen to D & C Podcast...
Happy Lost Day Eve to all!
Thanks for the link to the Official ABC podcast, Memphish.
As far as the sub being blown up here is what I heard"
Carlton says, "Did Locke really blow that submarine up?"
Damon says, "Well, I would say that it certainly appeared that he blew it up, (Carlton interjects, "exactly") unfortunately to the expense of Jack."
Codymom, I'll admit I summarized because I think Locke blew up the sub. I don't think he had time to hide it and swim back; he had an hour tops. I do think he may have scuttled it and then blown up the dock which would make the sub in the short term unusuable, but why blow up the dock if you weren't blowing up the sub? Locke's now in custody and he had no killer escape plan. If he just sunk it or hid it the Others have plenty of time to rectify that problem.
After listening to the podcast I'm not so sure if Patchy is dead. And if so does Locke know this? He pushed him into the sonic fence and Patchy thanked him.
memphish, You'd blow up the dock to make everyone think the sub blew up, too. The Others wouldn't look for it if they think it's blown up.
Just playing the devil's advocate, here:)
Off to listen to passafist & goog!
Sayid's Girl, For 2 weeks now I haven't figured out what CC means when he talks about Patchy. Merely that we might see him again in a Flashback or more? Doc Jensen has been floating that re-incarnation theory.
Codysmom, Devil's Advocating back. What? You wouldn't even go look? Also, wouldn't that make Locke a cheater, the big thing he is calling Ben on? I think Locke is Island-driven, and the Island via Jesus stick, sweat lodge, through the Flame's computer, whatever, is telling him to bring it all back to nature. Maybe that's why he left (apparently) the Jesus stick and his backpack on the sub.
Has anyone seen The Last Mimzy? It seems very LOST-like. Here's the wikipedia link.
I've seen previews of The Last Mimzy. I'm going to take my daughter to see it this weekend.
No spoilers please. The previews definately make you think of Lost.
Hi Buds,
"Factionalization"...that is my new favorite word. :o) Until of course Ded throws out another one of his great phrases again! :-D
I have not listened to either of the podcasts yet, but if Locke is supposed to be Jesus (and not just playing one on TV, haha) his actions are certainly not as subtle or well thought out as Jesus' were! ;-) Locke is such a bull in a china shop, that's what gets me irked the most about him. We may come to see that Locke's agenda actually is a good one, but the way he does things with absolutely no concern for how it impacts everyone else on the island is unacceptable behavior IMHO. I guess that's what fanatics do, and that's what I consider Locke to be, a wacky fanatic.
Also, inlight of how Locke chowed down Ben's chicken, it's pretty hypocritical for him to call Ben a hypocrite for having a fridge with chicken in it! Another trait of fanaticism gone wild. He also seems oblivious to the fact that he expects everyone else to tell him what they are doing, but since day-one (literally, Day 1, heh-heh) he never wants to tell anyone what he is doing!
Hmmm, wonder why I had that little Locke-attack? :o) I guess that I just had to get it out.
I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking that David said Locke was Jesus. David said, and correct me if I'm wrong please David, that Locke saw himself as a type of Jesus-figure. David cites the use of the word Pharisee; his explosion tour of 2004 as a temple cleansing and possible recreation of Eden; and the immaculate conception stuff his mom told him. As I said earlier, I do think Locke sees his mission on the Island very seriously and that as Charlie said to Jack way back in Season 1:
No offense, mate, but if there's one person on this island I would put my absolute faith in to save us all it would be John Locke.
Right Memphish, I definitely take it that Locke thinks that he is saving the purity of the island. Boy, he should have been around when the HF/DI started all this island work, they could have used him! But even if Locke is just trying to be a "savior", he has to ratchet down his zeal a couple notches. He may find that his extreme actions and decisions will affect the island adversely rather than entirely in a positive way, as it seems that he believes he does. He never seems to learn from his "OMG what have I done!" moments.
Unless of course, Locke's agenda is to return the island to Eden by completely wiping out all the vile humans on the island! In that case, I'd say that he is achieving his goal in spades! :o)
Capcom, I don't know what Locke's end game is. At this point Eden is my best guess. I wonder who Locke would pick to be Adam and Eve? Alex and Carl? I'm pretty sure in Locke's mind Jack, Kate and Sawyer are not in the running.
Nikki & Paulo?
At least Locke seems to know who the bleep twins are. If he wants to drop them off in the caves tomorrow, that would be fine with me.
Well it sure seems as if that is Locke's plan. Especially the way he b*tched to Ben implying that the Others treat the island badly by daring to live a normal life on it. Taht theory makes sense after that conversation.
Don't we already have an Adam and Eve?? Oh yeah, they're dead. Hopefully they are N&P Dennis! Man, I'm really mean when it comes to them.
Hello everybody! Will listen to the podcasts later-
I have always thought that John might represent a Christ like character because of the little things you guys have mentioned. It will be interesting to see how this pans out when we see the big picture.
And, the wiki article for The Last Mimzy looks really interesting. My kids are probably too young for it, but I might have to go see it.
Catch ya'll later.
I was hoping for some feedback on the whole time travel theory that we closed with. It was like a Eureka moment for both me and Steve and I enjoyed our disagreement.
Here are the ratings are in for last week. LOST was 17th overall (7.5/13.0).
passafist, I was hoping for some feedback on my time-travel theory, too, back in mid-March, but only a couple people commented on it. I guess it's just not popular here.
great podcast, by the way! I enjoyed it!
David, Part of the reason I didn't want to comment on that theory at this point is a)I consider it to be spoiler-y and b) I read something similar at Doc Jensen and didn't get/like it there either. I really hope that is not what turns out to be the case tomorrow night.
Here are some thoughts on podcast:
did Ben play Locke or Locke play Ben? Lots of disagreement on this. I think Locke was playing Ben (even when he is "hypocritically" eating his chicken while simultaneously putting Ben down for his J. Crew lifestyle, he's taunting Ben just like when Ben taunted Sawyer (you're good, but I'm better). Too bad we'll have to wait so longgg to see what Locke does in response to Cooper being there.
Easter Eggs- the woman in the picture in Locke's livingroom holding a "hampster" (looks like a giant hampster to me- or maybe a chinchilla, who interestingly needs to bathe itself in volcanic ash each day) Who's the woman? I personally think she looks most like Juliet and I think the "hampster" she's holding is a pregnant male
My pick for the name of the hampster= Murray, because my daughter had a hampster named Murray and he was so cool. He'd hold onto the wires of his cage at the top upside-down to beg for food.
John Locke thinks he's jesus? I think he thinks he's special. I don't think he's trying to get the Island back to Eden, necessarily. I think his goal is to help his new family, the Losties. It is his purity of purpose that gives him strength.
I agree that John knows more than we know. I also don't think John blew up the sub. We'll just have to agree to disagree here (memphish).
Theories about the box,
other than my previous time-travel and time-viewing theories, I don't have any idea, but I think it has something to do with hope and free will
I miss Dark Angel
The number of times we'll hear a bleep in the next episode podcast = 2 times, just for old time's sake. If all we here are bleeps, it's going to sound like an old Jerry Springer show!!!
I like that guy's idea that Nicki and Paulo weren't on the island until Des turned the fail-safe key!
If it's not time-travel, what's the alternative? Good question.
memphis said...
Codysmom, Devil's Advocating back. What? You wouldn't even go look?
Not if Ben thinks he has succesfully manipulated Locke into blowing it up. After all, Ben is still in charge (no matter how tenuously). Ben can now say to "his people", "See, look what your lovely Losties have done now!!! They have taken away any chance of you getting out of here!"
So, here's an idea. What if the rift (or factions) in the Others is that there are those who don't agree with Ben's handling of the whole plane-crash survivor thing?
1. He sends out Ethan and Goodwin, now they're dead
(that didn't go too well)
2. He gets captured by Danielle who gives him to our Losties and the remaining Others have to figure a way out for him which results in more people dead (anna lucia and libby)
(that didn't go too well)
3. He gets Jack, Sawyer, and Kate over on Alcatraz presumably to get Jack to operate on him ending up in two more deaths (Colleen & Pickett)
(that didn't go too well)
4. He has Jack in Otherville to take care of his healing back, but this only brings Locke, Sayid, & Kate to their HOME to rescue Jack. and their sub gets blown up!
(that didn't go too well)
If it's not time travel, they've been screwing around (literally if you believe in deleted scenes) since the crash. I can buy Desmond time traveling, but not everyone. So what's the scenario? Desmond travels back in time to Britain, not to Austalia. Even assuming that Desmond did change some things I don't think he changed who was on Flight 815.
Codysmom, I like your leadership analysis. But who's going to start the "Are you better off now than you were 80 days ago?" campaign? The sheriff? Juliet? I'd love to hear your guess.
memphish,
I think Tom is showing signs of feeling sorry for Jack (motioning to him that the rec-room is bugged)
I'm wondering about Juliet's tears when they're saying good-bye to Ben. Is she crying because she knows Ben is just conning Jack into thinking they're leaving and she's starting to have real feelings for Jack?
We don't really know enough about the sheriff.
Wouldn't it be fun if Locke is the one to start the campaign? Too bad they had to bring in Cooper to distract him.
Hmmm, that makes me think. Is that indeed the reason TMFT is there? To distract Locke and keep him from the campaign trail? Good idea Codysmom.
As for Juliet's tears, I think she is probably genuinely torn about leaving the place that Ben says they all love and would die to defend and her desire to see her sister with some lingering affection/respect for Ben thrown in. I don't think it's Jack. If it was Jack she'd be bawling after the sub blew up and they didn't get their alone under the sea time. :o)
Maybe I wasn't clear about Juliet's tears...
I meant that she knew Ben wasn't ever letting them leave. Her tears are for the fact that she knows that she and Ben are fooling Jack into thinking he's going home. She's feeling regret/sadness about their ruse, because not only is she starting to have real feelings for Jack, but she also really wants to go home.
I get you Codysmom, but I think Juliet really believed Ben was going to let them go this time. I don't think it was until Locke appeared in his bedroom that Ben concocted his fiendish plan to get everything he wanted including Jack and more importantly Juliet not being able to leave. I think Ben really wants Juliet to be a true believer but she's not. I think that could go in Ben's leadership list. Fall in love with a girl, but she wants to leave (that didn't go so well.)
Hey, guys and gals:
Memphish: I agree with you that Juliette really believed that this time Ben was finally going to let her leave. And those tears were for sentimental reasons and gratitude.
However, I think not letting them leave was part of the long con involving Locke. He knew how important Locke was to understanding the island, and like Alex said, her father was a master maniuplator. I don't think it was a spur of the moment thing to "let" Locke blow up the sub.
Good comments everyone!
Hey FYSB, what do you think of last week's ep? There weren't any burning polar bears!? :o)
One thing to think about concerning the cancelled sub trip: if Locke did not come along and ruin the trip home, what would have happened to Ben's big plan? Well, we would be finding out for sure whether or not they can actually still get off the island in the sub, after the Purpling, don't ya think? That's the only reason TPTB blew up the sub, so that we wouldn't know yet whether or not they really can get away and/or back. Just kiddin! Haha.
That does it, I'm getting a hamster now. They sound like they are fun.
capcom: All I remember of the hamster my son had was it escaped from the upstairs bedroom and a week later we found it in the trashcan under the kitchen sink!
You also said: That's the only reason TPTB blew up the sub, so that we wouldn't know yet whether or not they really can get away and/or back.
Remember Ben said the sub was only an "illusion" of getting off the island. I think he was setting Locke up to be the scapegoat. Having Locke blow it up solved all his control problems.
Hello! I doubt anyone is still on here considering the time...I am only able to log in late at night (on the west coast)so I seem to miss out on the conversations around here. I have been lurking since the start of the TLE. I have my Apollo Bars to prove it -LOL. I am also the one that believes the painting in Ben's house is of Karen DeGroot -the timeline does not match up to be Ben's Mother (thanks for the timeline Maven -Fantastic) but still believe it is of Karen.
I have been searching for a particular photo/screen cap of Jack being held in the Hydra Tank. The photo showed Jack and a little girl (ghostlike little girl) in the tank. Do any of you know where I might find that photo? I checked the usual sites to no avail. I appreciate any help you all may give me. Thanks!
Lady Lost,
Hey Westcoaster. If you go to Lostpedia and search Isabelle Cherwin, you will find the little girl.
Rise & shine Loco's.
Happy Lost Day.

Here's the Email Episode!!!
Happy Lost Day Everyone!
Looking forward to the bonus podcast to pass the time until LOST.
Lost Lady, Here is a link to that photo as well.
Maven, I agree about Ben and the sub being an illusion, but then where are Michael and Walt? Yeah, I don't know either.
Capcom, you were in rare cynical form yesterday. :)
New Doc Jensen in which Damon refuses to confirm whether or not it is important that Locke is wet before the sub "blows." There you go Codysmom and all the other, Locke blew up the dock, and not the sub, conspiratists. ;o)
There are some spoilers about things that are rumored to be happening tonight. But there's also an mini-OLP where Doc questions Damon, so if you don't read it today, read it tomorrow.
Continuing my string of posts: There's a great interview of Jack Bender who runs production on set in Hawaii and who directs about 1/3 of the episodes including last week's TMFT. There was one potential spoiler, though it was vague and didn't name names. It's the 2nd paragraph on page 2, so if you're staying pure skip that paragraph.
Good Morning LoCos
Happy Lost Day
Thanks for the links Memphish.
DarkAardvark's theory from the email podcast is great! I can't wait to see if it indeed plays out.
Good morning and Happy Lost Day!
memphish... thanks for the Doc Jensen link. Best part of the article -- when he calls P&N Paulo Poops-A-Lot and Little Miss Who-The-Hell-Are-You? LOL
David and Steve, Thanks for the extra podcast. The sound quality was still very good despite the computer change. David, I'm assuming the music was intended to reinforce your Locke theory.
DarkAadrvark and Just Sue's emails were fantastic. I hope they'll be posting soon.
Great contributions everyone who called and wrote in.
Happy Lost Day!
I can't wait for the episode tonight...Will N*kk* and P@*l* become iconic? Time for TPTB to put up or shut up (ie kill them off).
At least we get to see more Sun and Jin tonight. I hope we get some Rose and Bernard too, although if he knows what's good for him, he's in hiding. He's the last Taillie amnong the Losties, a very endangered species!
amnong=among
(shoots typo-demon) Ka-boom!
If you like Lost parody songs, go to Bare Naked Hurley's myspace and listen to Oh Benry.
Morning LoCo's! Gotta lot of catching up to do, podcast wise. And amused you're right, it's time for TPTB to put their money where their mouth is regarding N**** and P****.
Happy Lost Day!
Oh, boy... links from memphish and a new podcast..
be back later ...
What is up Loco's?
A tremendous Lost day to you-
Hi there memphish, thanks for the info on the Jack Bender article, good stuff there. Thanks for all the other Lost links, will have to read later.
Just checking in one a break, I forgot how much fun it is to get ready to move to a new office space.
Hi Everyone! Since it's so slow LOST-wise over here, I wanted to tell you all that I'll be out this afternoon to go see Hubby be named "Doctor of the Year" at a local hospital. I'm sure it's because he knows there is no such thing as a kidney sac.
Congratulations to your husband Memphish.
Morning Lost Day!
Getting caught up. Checking out all the links (thanks, Memphish) and the bonus Podcast.
Thanks, Lost Lady, for using the TLE Timeline. So happy to see it's still coming into play!
Memphish: Big Congrats to your Hubby! We knew LOST would come in handy for him. LOL
Congrats to Mr. Memphish!!!
I'm still reading all the links (which have lead to even more links)... at the same time dealing with Hurley (my puppy-see avatar) who is driving me crazy today!!!!! (Maybe he senses something up on Lost tonight!)
Maven, when you found little Hammy under the sink, was it alive or dead?? :-{ And right about Ben and the sub. I just mean, that we viewers would know the real truth about getting off or not getting off the island if Locke had not blown it up. Ben knew for sure, but we don't know what is really the truth yet, right? ((Whatever Ben's knowledge is, Locke blowing up the sub could have been to Ben's advantage either way)) So, Locke had to blow up the sub for the story to still be a mystery for us. That is, allowing TPTB to prolong our unanswered-question-agony! :o) Of course, we still don't know without a doubt whether or not Mike and Walt have made it. "Oh the pain, the pain!" ((I think that we need a Dr.Smith character on Lost too!)) :o)
Ladylost...don't feel too bad, it seems like whatever time of day that I get on here there is only one or two peeps on the blog. That's OK, we always back-read!
Thanks for the 'Links of the Day' Lady-Links-a-Lot! :o) And send our congrats to your Hub for his achievement! Clink the champagne glasses for a LoCo "cheers" in absentia for us.
Capcom: That hamster was alive! Even with two cats in the house! LOL
That's great news about Hammy! I new a couple who had some kittens who went missing, and a few weeks after a big party that they had, they opened the convertible sofa and....well, it was not a happy ending. :-( Think along the lines of "Flat Stanley". They were devastated.
That Bender interview was awesome! I love learning about the artistic angles of Lost. I for one am extremely appreciative that TPTB do not utilize that over-used artificial annoying CSI:Miami-Orange, and CSI:Vegas-Blue tinting. I'm really sick of that in movies and TV. :-p
Oops, sorry about the typos.
I also like in the interview how Bender is annoyed with the purposeless camera whipping in TV shows. I hate that too, and am so glad that Lost doesn't do that either. Worst case I ever saw of that was in G.I.Joke with D.Moore, where in the battle scenes the camera is zooming in and out, as if being shot at in a war isn't scary enough on its own. Bthprprppp!
I also like how he describes the show's creative jouney as a slalom course, knowing where the main things are, but filling in the between things along the way. That's pretty much what TPTB have told us, to show that they do know where the bulk of the story is going, but some viewers still try to say that TPTB have no idea, which is rubbish.
Integrity seems parmount to all TPTB in the Lost creative process, and that article should make anyone who's an artist insanely envious that they are not working anywhere on the Lost project. I know I am.
Ok, have read everything and listened to e-mail podcast....
I also enjoyed Bender's interview. Are you an artist, capcom?
Is the director stephen williams the same guy who acted in the xfiles and 21 jump street. I dont think he is but I saw once that kevin hooks directed an episode and i remembered him from the white shadow tv show.
probable just dated myself
Just finished Doc's article and he's brilliantly funny as usual. Why can't I meet any peeps like you all and him in person?! Especially you all! :o)
I used to be an artist Codysmom, before the spirit-killing-lifetime-corporate-job dried up my creativity, and cancer treatment ruined my health (ironic, but that's how it worked for me). BUT on the positive bright side, now that I'm retired I'm working on getting back into it, as soon as my studio is unpacked from my move from NY to TN. Happier and creative days are ahead.
P.S. White Shadow! I remember that show! Don't have the memory cells to recall the directors though Bigdog. :o)
What up Locopeeps,
Sort of caught up but I don't have a whole lot of time. Been busy like so many others here. I like what you all are talking about and the way things are going with the discussions. Alot of great points about Locke and all the rest of the lostaways.
Started a new job and am playing catch up all the time. Can't always get on line when I WANT to... lol
Memphish Love the new AVI.
Read ya'll soon. Namaste.
capcom, sorry to hear about your spirit & health problems, but glad to hear you're looking forward to better days! Good luck with that! Studio? (painter, music, film?)
oh and Capcom,
I too am very upset I don't work for Lost's art department. I have made Dharma beer cans and bottles, A Dharma swan logo plauqe like the one from in the hatch and pretty much everything else that they have made. I even made Dharma cookies for a friends birthday party... they were a big hit. New job is on the creative side as was the old, but new one is more corp. Web sites then actual art. Never loose track of your art. As much as I hate to say it, it is not like riding a bike. You do forget, because your mind and body loose it's muscle memory of how to do things. I recommend for anyone trying to get back into the arts to try this simple experiment.
Try to draw something while the picture is up side down. Then do it right side up. Your mind will remember the things it did wrong even if you don't and this will make it easier to get back into the swing of things.
Later.
actually he was an actor in the white shadow. the older i get and the more articles i read like benders i appreciate it when actors move behind the scenes.
i cant draw a straight line with a ruler, but my father was an artist and i always was amazed by creative people.
dedjezter, that is so true what you said about your mind and body losing it's muscle memory (interesting way to put it)! It's true about playing the piano, for sure (and I think, also video games). I was in a grad class (computers in education) where we were talking about the brain and we got off on a tangent talking about the "intelligence" of your fingers:)
I will try your experiment!
Codysmom, I just did a lot of my own paintings (acrylic) and drawings in fantasy and scifi mostly, but I also got to do some freelance work along the way for some local NYS rock bands and venues (back when I was into that rock-and-roll lifestyle), like designing band logos for their T-shirts, etc. A drawing I did got on an album of someone who played with Ace Freley, and the last thing I did in NY was designing the logo on my friends' bowling shop towel(!), and lots of small-time things like that. :o) I used to sell beaded jewelry too, or anything that I saw someone else do, I'd take a stab at it if I liked it. Also when someone saw something that I did for myself, if they wanted one I would do it for them and sell it. I taught art to kids for a while at an art and dance academy in Cold Spring, just north of NYC. All basically random freelance amateur jobs, but enough to call myself a starving artist (hence the need for the "real" job, haha). I hope to get prolific once again in the near future.
Thanks for asking. :-) Do you do art too? Or play the piano?
Hey Ded, got any pics of your Dharma cookies?? Well, we can be jeaous together! And thanks for the tip on getting back into the swing of things! I also read Alan Bean (the astronaut artist--my favorite) say that when he first started painting he simulated painting the way they simulated the moonshots before they went. He didn't elaborate on what that meant, so I decided to get some pretty cool paint-by-number kits, etc., to get my hand and brain muscles back in shape via simulation. (Dont' laugh!) :o)
Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof were interviewed on WBUR today. You can listen to the interview through their OnPoint website.
There is a nice summary by MadScientist from TivoCommunity:
Finished listening; no spoilers. They did re-affirm that they know what the ending of the show will be, but they haven't finished negotiations with the network as to exactly when it will be. They said this makes plotting a bit difficult.
Other tidbits: they said they originally were writing scenes where the characters did talk to each other about what was going on, and even shot some of them, but they were so boring (because the audience already knew about it) that they decided to not air them. Now they consciously avoid any scene with that kind of exposition in it. Of course, this doesn't directly answer the question of why the characters couldn't talk to each other off-screen. One made a comment similar to "the characters talk to each other exactly as much as we want them to", which is a bit telling . They did recognize the complaints people had about this.
Someone asked about the internet game and why the secrets revealed there were not yet revealed to people who only watch the show on TV; they said that those secrets were not really important to the people on the island, so they didn't have any good way in the plot to reveal them. They decided to use the internet game to allow people who care about these things to find the answers. It sounds like they won't really be talking much, if at all, about those secrets on the TV show.
capcom, interesting stuff. You sound very creative.
I oil paint (but haven't done it in awhile), crochet (without patterns-how boring and restricting), and I also taught myself to play piano (my Grandma could play by ear). I am most proud of teaching myself piano. It was one of the most frustrating and rewarding things I've ever done (other than raising two children which is also one of the most frustrating and rewarding things I've ever done .. ha ha)
ded, tried the drawing experiment- very cool
dennis, thanks for the link. Will check it out, then I've gotta go!!
Interesting Codysmom, you're creative too! Good for you for teaching yourself to play piano. And raising kids! :o) I liked crocheting, but didn't really have the knack for getting things perfect, so I stuck with making only shawls and those black granny square blankets for a while.
Thanks for the interview info Dennis!
codysmom... way cool teaching yourself piano. I took lessons for many years -- I'm kicking myself for not keeping up with it.
Oh, and I can draw one wicked stick person! LOL
capcom, I'm guessing we're all at least a little bit creative here on this blog:). Getting things perfect is why I hate knitting. It's so much easier to fix a crochet mistake!
ib4uc, let me help you kick yourself:) Keep up with it or your fingers will lose their intelligence! ha ha
Though it is NOT about tonight's episode, this link DOES contain spoilers...

Well it has certainly been a slow day for the LoCos. I hope everyone did lots of useful and productive things in their real life. Hopefully the bleeper twins episode will get things going around here tonight. I'll be checking in pre-showtime, showtime and post-showtime. Hope to see you then.
Great avitar Memphish
Thanks Sayid's Girl. I thought it was episode appropriate given what little I know about P****.
Hey, all...guess we've all been resting up today for what promises to be a much-discussed episode tonight!
Ditto on the avatar, Memphish. I always look forward to see what you come up with! LOL
See ya all later!

TBM: Wow, that is so strange and eerie!
maven, LOL, I know...this universe is actually weirder than Lost is :)
...Almost show time!!!
Back Later....
Apparently not yet EF. I'm waiting too. 10 minutes!
Heh, nice meta-reference. "I'm just a guest star, and we all know what happens to guest stars."
Sorry but I have to say it.
"She's dead Jim."
I don't lie it how they replayed her back through the beginning scene
Wow. Okay. I can live with pretending that we just didn't see her in the Pilot but she was really there- but was that actually supposed to change the timeline? I thought I saw Locke say something to her, which WOULD change the timeline- i.e. Desmond changed the past. What's going on?
All our complaining, and they die in the first 20 minutes.
Yeah! They Die! So far I'm enjoying it, but why doesn't Sawyer know them?
The obligatory Downtown ad is running.
well, it's over. after all the 2 months of silence. "it's not gonna work".
lovely.
now that i've changed my entire life. got to be kidding. i'm the biggest idiot alive.
good bye all.
btw........missed the first 23 minutes.
what did i miss?? email me at buttmonkey73@yahoo.com.
thanks!!!
I have to say, as much as I'm sure there's a lot of you out there hating this episode, I've always thought that the A-team was a bit clique-ish and that they must have ignored some important stuff- like Arzst. Of course, it's all in the limitations of writing a TV show, but I've always thought I'd be great to see an episode from the eyes of those outside of the clique. This is it.
Also, holy crap. They knew about the Pearl!
So Paolo is who was smoking in the Pearl before Locke and Eko got there.
I knew it. P*** was the one who left the lit cigarrette. He hid in the bathroom when Eko and Locke were there. Or at least that's the way it's looking so far.
These Flashbacks with P**** and N**** added back in are really really pathetic.
And this is CSI:Lost?
I wanted to post this theory earlier this week but was afraid it was to spoilerish.
n & P ruin everything, even the LOST story line. geez
Actually I'm enjoying this, except the lame FBs. They've now invoked 24 and its perimeters.
I like it. It's giving us background on what's been happening. I'm sure P** was working for the others yet or not.
Anyone heard when the hanso stuff will come back to play online?
I mant to type not sure.
Alright, TPTB. You've got 15 minutes to turn Nikki and Paulo into iconic characters. Go!
Now, don't get me wrong. I actually like the episode so far. But "iconic"? Locke is iconic. Ben is iconic. Jack is iconic. Nikki and Paulo are... not iconic. Yet.
I think it's an okay episode. It's filling in some holes. Face it, anything after last week was going to be a let down. Just think about SIASL after FBYE. And now we're done with P**** and N**** and we need not speak of them again.
Keesh, the word so far is no new game.
They're not dead! I *KNEW* it. I was totally thinking of "Romeo and Juliet " the whole episode.
I can't think of a better way for that to have ended. They were buried alive because of their mistrust, greed, and lies. wow.
Well I guess being buried alive is somewhat iconic.
That was so funny! And next week - CAT FIGHT!
Out of lurking to say: oh man, oh man, oh man! Holy cr**!
I was stunned. How great was that epi? (Ok, the others post-break were better, but it was pretty good.) I do wish that our main characters would have been touched on more, but it was nice to 'be on the beach' to see the interactions there.
Probably? Dirt'll be pretty heavy if it's piled on thick. I do like that they were buried with their diamonds. They did say that someone would die, so I suppose they'd want to stay true to that, but I suppose it's possible that they'll claw their way out.
Also, for those of you a little unsatisfied- take a step back. If this wasn't Lost, but rather a short film (and you just happen to know the general lost backstory), what would you think about it? I'd say it was a well put-together hour of television.
This was the tribute episode. They invoked lots of Hitchcock, Tales From the Crypt, Twilight Zone, Bonnie and Clyde, 24, CSI and basically every other procedural cop show. I hope that J. Wood's analysis will try to cover it all.
I like how they filled in some holes. So Ethan is a Wisconsin Badger or he just found that shirt? Arzt was so the Professor from Gilligan's Island with all his little glass jars. They showed how Shannon knew about the case of guns and the key in order to be able to go after Locke after Boone's death. They showed that Ben was watching from the Pearl and wanted Jack, Kate and Sawyer because Jack was emotionally invested in Kate. They referenced Thanksgiving passing which the fans have been wondering about. Sawyer says the guns went with the A-Team. LOL. We got shirtless Sawyer. And we basically got zombies. "Things don't stay buried on this island," Locke said to Paolo. Guess they do if you bury them deep enough.
This episode shows us that the A team weren't the only ones not sharing what they knew. N**& P** knew about the plane and the Pearl a long time before Locke did.
Good call Dolenore. I heard it too, but forgot to mention it. It makes me wonder about Smokey and his intentions though. Was he there to punish Nikki? Punish both of them? I don't know.
Good point about the info. Sayid's Girl. Locke says to P**** we all have our secrets. This is one secretive bunch that survived this plane crash.
So Sawyer put the diamonds in. Is this his redemption? Is he next?
In a way I feel like tonight's episode was "A Very Special LOST." I guess in 100 hours, one hour like this isn't that bad, but I don't understand why they went to the trouble to cast these people as regular cast members in order to produce essentially this one episode that makes fun of the series and of a bunch of other things as a whole. Do you really want to waste the good will you've built up in Eps 7-13 for this? If it weren't for the NEXT on LOST, I'd say no, but I'm definitely tuning in for that. And my money is 100% on Kate.
I loved it!! I'm so mad, though. Pretty much missed the first half with trying to get my computer/media center working right.
I missed this:
They showed how Shannon knew about the case of guns and the key in order to be able to go after Locke after Boone's death.
ExperimentalFilm said...
from doc jensens interview:
Are we supposed to be wondering what happened to the corpse of Jack's dad, or is that fact totally irrelevant? Lindelof: ''Yes, you should be wondering about that.''
I read that earlier today, and yes, this episode made me think of that again
Dolenore, I heard smokey, too, right before the other spiders showed up to get Nicki
I can't believe I'm saying this but...that was a really great episode! I'm a sucker for flashbacks of events from previous episodes but from a new perspective. I never really was a hardcore hater of N & P (even though I didn't really like them either), and I must say I actually feel a little disturbed/sad about what happened there at the end...I kind of felt myself shouting in my head "wait, wait, stop!"...I LOVE LOST!
New Post!
See first comment in thread. Sorry I was sooooo late.
Here's a serious question. What was with Sawyer not knowing them the whole episode even when reminded that he knew them? Did the Others do something to him? Did that brief exposure to Room 23 do it? Is it the sickness?
memphish, when you said,
I don't understand why they went to the trouble to cast these people as regular cast members in order to produce essentially this one episode that makes fun of the series and of a bunch of other things as a whole.
It makes me think TPTB really do listen to what's being said on the blogs and pander to the general consensus. This attitude is what made them decide to split up the season this year (which didn't turn out well, they even admit)
I actually liked seeing things from a different point of view.
Dolenore: I thought that Arzt explained the spiders worked this way: the female's pheremones attract the male spiders at an alarming rate when out itn the open. He kinda inferred that cause he had her in a bottle, he was safe.
Hi! I didn't hate this at all. I have to admit that I too thought that I had turned on CSI with all the lame stripping going on! LOL! I was a little disappointed in the repeating of all the scenes that we have already viewed before, but what the hay. I would still thank TPTB for this episode if I saw them walking down the street.
Nice to see ol' Doc again. And for Charlie to fess up about the attack was interesting. Maybe he is turning over a new leaf. And it was a nice surprise to get a shot of Ben and Jules in the Pearl! Some answers given there! Ok, only a few, but that's better than none.
Has anyone looked up those spiders yet to see if they are real yet? I'm sure someone will by tomorrow a.m. :o)
Well, talk about a well deserved ending for two slimeball characters. But, they might wake up again and crawl their way out.
Chucklez....take a deep breath. You can't say that you could not see this as a possible alternative scenario coming down the line. Now, concentrate on where you are at this moment and go forward. Maybe you were meant to be here in this place, at this time, for a reason. Make the choice to create something positive for your life out of it. Maybe you'll meet the real true love of your life where you are now, who knows? Put the past behind and look forward.
The previews were interesting. BTW, last week's previews made it look as if Sun hit Sawyer in the head with a shovel and was burying him. Cheap shot.
Good Evening Locos-
What is up with all the hate for this episode? I personally enjoyed it and thought it was a very well put together hour of LOST. It answered some questions, filled in some 'missing time' and was enjoyable, espically the beginning with N doing her little floor show. :-)~
Major drag on N and P buying it like that, but that's what smokey wanted. At least they didn't get the rag doll treatment Mr. Eko got.
hi there memphish, let me know when wood's take is up tomorrow. I look forward to him putting it all together for us. I really like his takes on LOST.
Yep, real cheap shot with Sun in the previews. Made it look like she was really fighting when it was just a slap. I can't believe she let Charlie off that easy, though. Wait 'til Claire finds out!
