Eggtown - Season 4, Episode 4

ABC teases that, in tonight's episode, "Kate's need to get information out of the hostage may jeopardize her standing with Locke -- as well as with Sawyer." All I really care about is why the heck they're calling the thing "Eggtown". Surely there's more to it than someone making eggs...

First Post!

I'm looking forward to tonight's episode. No wife again tonight, so I'll be here during the commercials :)

Time to go feed the goats...bbl

Should be an awesome Episode, from the official Lost podcast, apparently going to be a ripper ending.

Cannot wait. Eggtown, doesn't that title make it that much more enticing to watch?

Joseph Finchum said...

Might not be around to watch live, and commercial comment, but if I can I will be on.

Scoutpost said...

Is it time yet?! Oh darn.

re: Vantage Point (from the previous post)- I was planning on seeing it- it looks good to me. I don't usually get to see movies when they come out though, but hopefully soon.

memphish said...

Kate's got to be the most glamorous fugitive ever, huh? I'm spouse-less too tonight, so I'll be around once the kid goes to bed.

Ellen said...

Evening all!
I am jazzed that it's LOST day!!!
I'll be around during commercials, etc. I've been lurking all day. I read Lost Bullet Points, Fenris. Very good...
I also listened to Jay & Jack's podcast as well as TLC podcast. All very good. Read Doc Jensen's article-wow!! My theory might have some merit after all...

X marks the spot! The first time I post on a thread, it won't let me choose to have comments emailed to me, so here is the second of many tonight I'm sure...

I love how they're naming this year's episodes! "Eggtown" is soooo intriguing! We'll probably all smack ourselves on the head when it's explained! LOL (I haven't seen any spoilers about it either.)

I'm spouseless tonite, too! (At least until after the show...then I watch it again with hubby--he won't sit through the commercials.) I'll be posting while he's watching (but that will be 10pm PST.

OT-Maven-just finished the quilt top for my brother in the wheelchair. OMG...biggest one I've ever made. Now to sandwich and quilt. Gotta finish by 3/4 (his birthday). UGH....

I'm impatient, I want LOST NOW!!!

Can't wait for tonight! Hmmm, I'm not spouseless, so probably won't be on til' after the episode.

From the other post... Cane has been cancelled.. YAY!!!! I want Richard Alpert back!

Also, I ended up reading Doc Jensen and I'm glad I did. It cleared up a few things.

Anybody know if tonight's replay of The Economist is a "pop-up video"?

Ellen said...

Yes, Codysmom, it is "enhanced"!!
Hope we get some good info from the popups...
xxoo

Black Swan said...

Thanks maven & ellen!
I like the enhanced versions, and to DH, they're almost neccessary:)

maven said...

Yes, Codysmom: I see that The Economist is on at 8pm with enhancements! I think we're beginning to like them!

Black Swan said...

Well, bbl

I'm so PSYCHED for tonight!!

Eggtown? What kind of name is that?

maven said...

It seems with the pop-ups they're reading the fan's blog sites (like TLC) and answering some of our questions or correcting something we're talking about. It's like they're reading our minds sometimes... (Like when they identified the woman with Dan as his caretaker and not his wife.)

Ellen said...

I agree Maven, I think they do read all these blogs and respond to the fan questions! I feel very loved by the writers, producers and actors of this show!
xxoo

Dennis said...

If the episode is enhanced tonight, I'll type up all the comments again and post them here.

maven said...

Thanks, Dennis!

memphish said...

Yes thanks Dennis. I'll miss the pop-ups do to kid stuff. I'm hoping we might get a clarification on RG or RC.

memphish said...

I wonder if the pop-ups are canon or not?

Darkaardvark said...

I feel like the 'enhanced' episodes are the sort of their way of dealing with not having the OLP. Is that coming back soon?

Also, (spoiler-free here) I'm assuming that tonight's episode is a Kate FF? Hopefully we'll find out who gets worried when she's gone for too long, eh? Though knowing Lost... we'll be left with even more questions.

Good Lost evening,
It is great to hear that Richard(No Dharma Just For Men, for me) Albert may be coming back.
I hope the writers can squeeze in a Temple road trip for our Losties this season.
Maven,
Elizabeth sure is getting big.
Everyone have a super night.
PS. I saw a joke while researching The Mobius Strip:

Why did the chicken cross the Mobius strip?

To get to the same side.

I thought The Mobius strip was mentioned in A Wrinkle In Time, but I couldn't find it.

Well, I'm outta here until we're done on the west coast. Have a great time and figure everything out for me!

Dennis said...

The man asking questions is Miles Straume. He is part of the freighter team and has the ability to commune with the dead.

Capcom said...

"...to get to the same side", heheh, I'm gonna steal that Village! :-D

memphish said...

Was Sayid putting his heart before his gun when he put Naomi on the helicopter?

Dennis said...

The Economist "Enhanced" Comments:

This episode is titled "The Economist", a name shared by a British magazine which publishes its articles anonymously.

The man asking questions is Miles Straume. He is part of the freighter team and has the ability to commune with the dead.

Naomi Dorrit was part of the team and made first contact with the survivors, but she was killed by John Locke.

This scene was shot in Kualoa Ranch on the island of Oahu. Kualoa has been the location for many films including Jurassic Park and Pearl Harbor.

The chopper is a Bell Helicopter Textron UH-1 Iroquois. Its nickname is “Huey.”

Charlotte is an anthropologist. While she was on a dig in a desert in Tunisia, she came across the remains of a polar bear wearing a collar from the DHARMA Initiative.

The survivors have been stranded 92 days. In that time, only Michael and Walt have been able to leave the island.

The 375 yard, par 4, 17th hole on the Fazio Course at Oahu’s Turtle Bay Resort is doubling as a Seychelles golf paradise.

We now know this is a flash forward. Sayid is the fourth survivor of the Oceanic 6 to be revealed.

Sayid vowed he’d never torture again, so one might wonder if he ever found redemption on the island.

We’ve also seen Jack and Hurley deal with public recognition since the crash. It would seem the Oceanic 6 have been making headlines.

Crushed ice and special FX turn Honolulu into snowy Berlin.

The freighter people are in search of Ben, but Naomi claimed she was hired by Penny Widmore to find Desmond.

Kate is usually Jack’s “go-to” woman, but Jack has another plan for her.

Locke saw the grey ash circling Jacob’s cabin during his last visit. Hurley also saw the cabin, but we now know it was somehow in a different location.

Ben claims he gets his orders from Jacob, and while Locke could not see Jacob when Ben introduced them, Lock did hear Jacob say, “Help me.”

Perhaps Hurley’s regret which he shared with Jack in a flash forward of choosing Locke over Jack began at this moment.

Jack told Kate that he loved her. In island time, that was only a few days ago. Jack and Sawyer are rivals for Kate’s affection, so it’s a big deal that Jack is trusting Sawyer to protect her.

If Elsa’s boss calls, Sayid wants to know, as the man is Sayid’s target for a hit.

Daniel Faraday is a physicist and is using his experiments to gain greater understanding of the unique geophysical makeup of the island.

The ship is 80 nautical miles from the island, that’s the equivalent of 92.0623 miles.

A small rocket was launched from the freighter to the island. But its non-arrival is an indication that traveling to the island is not as easy as it seems.

The LOST writers refer to this place as “New Otherton.” These barracks were originally home to members of the DHARMA Initiative. More recently, they were occupied by the Others, who have since left on Ben’s orders to go to the Temple.

This was Juliet’s house and the site of the Others’ book club meeting in Episode 301, “A Tale of Two Cities.”

Sawyer has called Hurley: Jabba, Stay Puft and Jumbotron among other nicknames.

Ben once showed Jack a tape of the Red Sox winning the 2004 World Series to prove he had access to the outside world.

The clocks were in sync before launch, but the clock from the payload rocket is 31:18 ahead of Faraday’s island clock.

Desmond saw a helicopter in one of his “flashes.” He told Charlie he saw Claire and Aaron leaving the island in a helicopter, prompting Charlie to sacrifice himself to help secure her rescue.

The is Ben’s house, and along with the rest of New Otherton is actually part of YMCA Camp Erdman on the north shore of Oahu.

Jack Kerouac’s On The Road is a story about hitchhiking across America. It’s main character, Dean Moriarty is the alias on Ben’s passport.

This turn of events is an homage to The Empire Strikes Back, when Han Solo was lured into a trap by Lando Calrissian.

Sayid used his legs to snap the neck of one of the Others when he was recently their prisoner. The others don’t have a jail per se, but they did use this rec room to hold Kate when she was caught trying to rescue Jack in Episode 313, “The Man From Tallahassee.”

The song playing is If You Stayed Over performed by Bonobo. Lyrics include: “If I breathe in the future, breathe out the past, yeah.”

The Others kept lists of the survivors, but this is the first list to be mentioned off the island.

Sayid has a history of letting his feelings get in the way of business. While in the Republican Guard he fell in love with his prisoner, Nadia, and risked his life to set her free.

Desmond’s girlfriend Penny is the daughter of the wealthy and powerful Charles Widmore.

Ben told Michael to follow a bearing of 325 when Michael left in a boat with his son, Walt. Those instructions, as well as Faraday’s are more clues to the nature of the island.

There is only one thing that could keep Jack from leaving the island… Kate.

LOST co-created Damon Lindelof told Entertainment Weekly this scene has “the first bird’s-eye view of the island in the history of the show.”

It is appropriate this flash forward unfolds against the backdrop of Berlin, a city where east meets west where the unimaginable once happened and two opposing sides unified.

Maybe if Naomi wakes up on the helo and puts a gun to his head. :-D

WHy !!!! i dont get it !

i guess my theory is that kate gets off before claire and for the wellbeing of the baby, claire gives it to kate so she knows her son willl be ok .
or claire dies . either scenario is bad .

Ellen said...

g'nite memphish, everyone! My bedtime too...back tomorrow!
xxoo

Melissa_Lossa said...

dark - I actually said to my husband that I thought the name would be James! Dang.

I was really not buying the whole Aaron theory. Guess I was wrong!

Ange said...

Okay WHY doesn't Jack want to see Aaron?

Melissa_Lossa said...

Because it reminds him that either Claire is dead or they left her behind?

Tess315 said...

Do you think Jack and Claire ever find out they're siblings? Jack has to know that the baby is Aaron in the future. So did something happen to Claire and he feels guilty about it or what?

Capcom said...

Good question about Jack not wanting to see Aaron. If Claire died, wouldn't he want to be close to his half-sister's baby? But if she's still alive on the island, it might be too painful to see him. I dunno.

Tess315 said...

I guess we're all on the same wave lenght there.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Okay, the book clubber in me has to ask - did anybody catch the name of the book that Locke gave to Ben?

Ange said...

Maybe Jack accidentally killed Claire?

Capcom said...

And how does Kate having Aaron fit into the whole, "don't let him be raised by another" scenario I wonder?

Anonymous said...

that depends if jack and claire find out their relation .

i thought that maybe jack thought it was sawyer's baby, or that she told him that for some reason ..

Capcom said...

Oh snap, there ya go Ange! Jack's guilt complex.

Tess315 said...

Not to mention Desmond's flash of seeing Claire get on a helicopter.
Although I know his flashes aren't always complete or acurate.

Capcom said...

Right Melissa, I didn't catch the book this pass either, I'll have to look again or check a cap shot.

Melissa_Lossa said...

So, where does everyone think that Kate got this baby?

Jack mentions that eight of them survived the crash, but there's only the Oceanic 6. Does everyone know that the baby isn't Kate's? It doesn't make much sense that a wanted fugitive would be able to adopt a baby, even if she did supposedly rescue him.

Unknown said...

Did kate say Eric or Aaron? Kates proclaimed childs name I thought was eric, but you all are saying Aaron....

Unknown said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Ange said...

Capcom maybe it's "Don't let him get raised by an Other" LOL.

Also, Jack must know it's Aaron or that right there tells us that he and Kate did not leave the island together and then didn't see one another for a long time for her to be able to have a kid that old.

Dennis said...

Kates Charges:
• Fraud
• Arson
• Assault on a Federal Officer
• Assault with a Deadly Weapon
• Grand Larceny
• Grand Theft Auto
• Murder in the First Degree

We have the Oceanic 6, but Jack says there were eight survivors? What happened to the other two?

If Arron is Kate's 'son', what happened to Claire? Claire would have to have been one of the 'eight' survivors mentioned in Jack's story, in order for her to have given birth on the island... but she is NOT one of the Oceanic 6? Where is she?!?!

Darkaardvark said...

The book is VALIS by Philip K Dick

Blogger isn't working right for me.

Tess315 said...

I was wondering too Melissa but I missed it too.

Darkaardvark said...

Aaand now it is, apparently. So, the other thing I tried to post:

Maybe the helicopter is like the payload fired at the island... it may feel like only a little while for Sayid and Desmond but what they're going through actually takes days or more on the island.

Capcom said...

I heard Aaron, but my captioning is not working on my TV, so I don't know for sure. I accidently saw a spoiler during the game that it was Aaron. :-(

Capcom said...

Well I would buy that Ange, and I would also believe that TPTB would put that in the script!

Tess315 said...

dark
I like the idea of the helicopter being like the payload.

Capcom said...

Good point about the helo Dark. Tonight's previews made it look as if some storm action caused them to veer off course of the magic coordinates too.

Dennis said...

My CC is not working either, but it's definitely Aaron. What significance would the name Eric have anyway?

FWIW, The credits are no help with the name, but they do reveal something very important!

Co-starring William Blanchette as Two Year Old Boy.

I guess we now have an idea how far we have flashed forward.

Capcom said...

Dan said, "no matter what" and Des seemed to ask why they were heading directly for the storm.

Unknown said...

mayve claire died because she didnt have anymore injections, or maybe because she leaves the Island? So kate maybe then takes the baby and Jack covers her as Aaron being her baby

Tess315 said...

I was thinking maybe they had to go into the storm to be on the right coordinates. They came to the island in a storm. Of course Desmond and Sayid don't know that and think Frank is crazy. Dan did say stay on that course no matter what.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Thanks, dark!

So, this episode was good - but, I find myself even more intrigued by the promo for next week! What is up with Des and Dan in the classroom?

Unknown said...

Okay, haven't kept up with the comments, but here are my thoughts:

-I had been digging on the Kate-as-Claire theory, and am thrilled that it was half right.

-Does Charlotte think that Daniel's empathic tendencies will be enhanced by the Island? "That's progress"?? What does that mean?

-"Eggtown"...obviously, there's a reference to Locke's breakfast for Ben. Of course, it also could refer to Locke's "breakfast" for Miles (click here). "eier" means "eggs" in German). Also, the dilemma of Kate's motherhood?

Darkaardvark said...

As if it needs confirmation, my close-captioning is working and it does say Aaron. So.

Capcom said...

Seems like tonight should have been called "Let's Make A Deal"! Everyone was trying to bargain and wheel and deal for this or that.

Tess315 said...

melissa
Dan and Desmond are in a classroom huh. That is strange. The previews go by so fast I can't catch them all. I usually go back later and watch them in slow motion.

Capcom said...

Tx Dark, that puts that brain-strain to rest before it gets started. :-)

Melissa_Lossa said...

My take on the card game was that Dan is having trouble with his memory? Maybe that's why he didn't know why he was so upset about 815 - he didn't remember?

Ange said...

Per Kyle's question about Miles...maybe he has Alzheimer's or some other brain function issue? That might explain why remembering 2 cards was progress and also why he has a caretaker?

Capcom said...

Awwwwww, Melissa that's a good guess, and that makes me sad! It makes sense.

Ange said...

*Miles=Dan

Darkaardvark said...

I missed the enhanced episode of 'Confirmed Dead' but didn't that say something about Dan needing a caretaker? Maybe he's not just strange, but he actually does have a mental illness that he's dealing with. A savant, if you will. He's obviously very bright when it comes to science, but not about other things. Unless there's some weird psychic/ESP testing going on, it seems like Dan was being tested on some very basic memory stuff, and not doing too well at all.

Melissa_Lossa said...

sayid's girl - yeah, Des and Dan are in a classroom - Dan has long hair, and Desmond's is short. Des grabs Dan, knocking over a chalkboard covered in equations and says something like "how am I going to die?"

Very interesting....

Tess315 said...

dark
I was thinking the same thing that maybe he was a savant.

Capcom said...

The savant thing sounds like a good guess, and like something that TPTB would throw in too. Especially after what we saw in TLE at the Vik.

Tess315 said...

melissa
ooo cool
Thanks
I like Desmond's trippy flashbacks that he has.

Dennis said...

Capcom said... Good point about the helo Dark. Tonight's previews made it look as if some storm action caused them to veer off course of the magic coordinates too.

I am not usually a math guy, but...

If the rocket was traveling 11,000 mph (92 miles in about 30 seconds) and took an extra 31 minutes to reach the island, it could mean that it covered an extra 5000 miles on it's trip.

The Huey helicopter only has a top speed of 135 mph, so it would take 37 hours to cover the same distance - assuming they stay on course and don't hit a storm head on they way...

Capcom said...

Interesting Dennis.

And if we didn't see Sayid in the FFs, I would think that they just crashed, but I think there's more to come with the helo.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Yeah, I like the idea that Dan is some sort of savant. He seemed very frustrated by the cards, more so than if they were just testing psychic ability.

Did Charlotte ask him what he remembered (about the cards), or am I remembering that wrong?

Darkaardvark said...

Good math there, Dennis. I am still torn as to whether the rocket took 31 minutes or 26 seconds. Seems silly that I can't figure it out, but the enhanced episode didn't make it any more clear.

I'm inclined to go for the 31 minutes side, though. It seems like there was a break between scenes.

Darkaardvark said...

Also, it seems pretty clear that there's no way they'd have enough fuel to cover that amount of distance or fly for that long.

Capcom said...

Now I'm getting all ferklempt about Dr.Dan. I'm gonna go watch it again.

Tess315 said...

capcom
I know I was thinking the same thing that I know Sayid will survive but will Desmond? Next to Sayid he's my favorite character.

Ange said...

Okay my grandfather had Alzheimer's and he would weep for no reason all the time, and when asked wouldn't know the reason.

Also the memory would fit with that. So maybe Dan had a reason to WANT to go to the island other than physics and finding Ben. He heard a little rumor (or Abaddon told him) that the island would heal him.

Tess315 said...

ange
I like that. And is the only thing Miles thinks about is money?

Tess315 said...

ange
Not that your grandfather had alzheimers. I should have been more clear. I meant your idea about why Dan went to the island. I'm curious on what they were told to get them all there.

Ange said...

I knew what you meant Sayid'sGirl ;)

Black Swan said...

sayid'sgirl, you called it! (Aaron)

I got so mad at Locke tonight! What kind of a thing does he have going on? How can he be so different from last season? I can't believe what he did to Miles with the grenade! Do you suppose it's like when Jack was going to shoot Locke and he said it's not loaded? Is there such a thing as a grenade being "not loaded"?

Black Swan said...

Ange said...
Okay my grandfather had Alzheimer's and he would weep for no reason all the time, and when asked wouldn't know the reason.

These are also signs of someone who has had a stroke...

I also like the idea that Dan knows there are healing properties of the island and Charlotte is testing if it's starting to work..

Melissa_Lossa said...

I know - seems like Locke's gone off the deep end. I thought he was already there, but he really hit a new low today.

I think Ben's right - I think Locke's getting desperate and he doesn't know what to do next.

Tess315 said...

Yes a gernade can be "dead" don't know the correct term. I wondered if maybe it was. But I'm not so sure Locke seems to have lost it. No pun intended.

Amused2bHere said...

I agree the helicopter is taking longer to reach the ship because of the time distortion. That makes sense.

When Kate crawled into Sawyer's bed I told my husband I'd get points for kate "having sex" in the fantasy league. Then Sawyer had to say they didn't go "all the way" because she was sad. So I guess no points for my team! oh well at least I get the kissing points, eh?

John "Boom Boom" Locke at it again with the hand grenades!

Sawyer and Hurley roommates? lol

The clothes Sawyer found in Kate's size...anyone else think they are Juliet's? Or maybe Coleen's? either way it's funny and ew at the same time.

As to why Jack wouldn't want to see Aaron...there's still so much we don't know. How long does the world think the O6 were on the Island? Do they believe Aaron is Kate's (and Jack's?), conceived and born on the Island?

Did her mom say she was diagonosed 4 years ago? So if the world thinks that Aaron is Kate's, conceived and born on the Island, and already a few months old when they were rescued, have they been gone long enough for the Red Sox to have won the series twice?

so many questions! like where does Ben have $3.2 million? dig up diamonds from N&P?

Tess315 said...

Yeah I think Locke thought he had it all figured out *again* and is relizing it's not as simple as he thought.

I also find Dan and Charlotte's closeness strange too. Almost like they knew each other before this.

Darkaardvark said...

Speaking of the Fantasy League, I'm something like #38 as of week 3. So doing very well, for me, at least. I didn't even expect to be in the top couple of hundred.

Dennis said...

Melissa_Lossa said... sayid's girl - yeah, Des and Dan are in a classroom - Dan has long hair, and Desmond's is short. Des grabs Dan, knocking over a chalkboard covered in equations and says something like "how am I going to die?"

There is a chalkboard scene, but it could just be on the freighter. Either Desmond cleaned up on the boat, of maybe it is a Desmond Flash-forward?

Darkaardvark said... Good math there, Dennis. I am still torn as to whether the rocket took 31 minutes or 26 seconds. Seems silly that I can't figure it out, but the enhanced episode didn't make it any more clear.

Regina counts off how close the missile is after she fires it. It should have reached the target in about 30 seconds. When it arrives, there is a 31 minutes difference in time. We don't really know if it was traveling that long, but it was much longer than it was supposed to be, so I think 31 minutes is a safe bet. However, if it was really gone for an hour, and showed up 29 minutes later, that would explain it being 31 minutes in the future.

Darkaardvark said... Also, it seems pretty clear that there's no way they'd have enough fuel to cover that amount of distance or fly for that long.

Yes, that's a problem. The range is only 315 miles, but as we have seen with Hurley's VW bus, the island give you extra MPG :)

Melissa_Lossa said...

Here's a question: There are at least 15 - 20 houses in New Otherton, right? Locke only has maybe 8 or so people with him, so why are they all living two to a house? I can maybe see why Kate was staying with Claire, but why are Hurley and Sawyer roommates?

Although I did love Sawyer's "I'm reading" response to Hurley's question about which movie he wanted to watch. Sawyer must be in heaven with all of these new books!

Melissa_Lossa said...

dennis - looks to me like Dan has shoulder-length hair in that promo, and Desmond's looks the way it did when he was a monk, so I don't think it can be on the freighter.

Tess315 said...

Yep I was wondering the same thing why are they bunking up. Maybe saftey in numbers. They are suppose to be hiding from the freighter people although they don't act like it.

Kate visited her mom when she was in the hospital with cancer in "Born To Run", episode 122. This must mean that flashback was two years in the past, if tonights flash forward was two years in the future (based on the 2yo age of Aaron).

The world can't think the baby is hers. She wasn't pregnant on Flight 815, and they weren't on the island long enough for her to theoretically get pregnant and have a child.

BTW, the Red Sox winning twice theory was discredited in Doc Jensen's article today. The Red Sox win referred to by Frank Lapidus was the one in 2004, since that episode was written before the Red Sox won again.

Did her mom say she was diagonosed 4 years ago? So if the world thinks that Aaron is Kate's, conceived and born on the Island, and already a few months old when they were rescued, have they been gone long enough for the Red Sox to have won the series twice?

Her mom said her dr has told her she has 6 months to live for the last 4 years.... so, I guess we'd have to know when she first got sick, but they sure seem to be making it sound like our Losties have lost time

And wouldn't have the authorities pretty much nabbed Kate right away when they got back? Aaron shouldn't be that old. Definitely something screwy with time.

dennis said, "The world can't think the baby is hers."
But it sure seems like Kate's mother thinks it's hers

also, "Kate visited her mom when she was in the hospital with cancer in "Born To Run", episode 122. This must mean that flashback was two years in the past, if tonights flash forward was two years in the future (based on the 2yo age of Aaron)."

that makes sense

Black Swan said...

Wait, no. That doesn't make sense that they would wait two years to prosecute Kate

Now that I think about it the DA did say she would accept time served and prbation. And sometimes it can take months or even a year or more to get to trial. I don't know.

Black Swan said...

thanks sayid'sgirl, I think you're right that the DA said "time served". Also, she wouldn't be a flight risk because she's been on her own recognisance all this time... ok...

I'm reading the Wiki article on the book they showed tonight, "Valis" by Philip K. Dick. Very interesting. Would you believe they already have the Lost tie-in from tonight's show in the article? At Dark Ufo's they already have screencaps... so effecient:)

Capcom said...

Am I dense, I can't understand why Kate was such a beetch tonight, especially to Sawyer. Sheesh. So big deal, of course the F4s might/should know about her, why would she be such a jerk about it?

Black Swan said...

Capcom,
The thing I felt was that Kate was very happy she wasn't pregnant and she wasn't going to let Sawyer change that for anything.

When you think of it, what kind of "proposal" is it when Sawyer asks her if she wants to stay with him, knowing that getting pregnant is a death sentence for the women on the island. It would be hard to happily "play house" with sexy Sawyer and have to worry about the pregnancy thing all the time...

Maybe she's starting to think both of her men aren't being very genuine in their feelings for her. One of them seems to just want sex (Sawyer), knowing that their love can't go to the next level (which would be having children). And the other manipulates her to be his proxy (Jack) by sending her with Sayid into a dangerous situation. The fact that Jack uses his knowledge that Sawyer "loves" Kate and won't let anything happen to her, but he wants her go anyway would seem to me a risk that someone who "loves" me wouldn't be willing to take on two levels. If I was Kate, I'd be mad at both of them right now.

Beverly said...

codysmom,

I think with the prospects of rescue and being aware of how long they've been on the island (and thus how close it is to the holiday), I think I'd be thinking about Christmas - probably somewhere along the lines of getting rescued being the best Christmas present they could for.

Haven't had time to read through everyone's comments, but here are my first thoughts:

1) I'm assuming no one believes Aaron is Kate's natural son, and that the reason her lawyer saw him as proof of Kate's good character is because she stepped up and adopted an orphan from the crash.

2) Combining the probability that Aaron doesn't count as one of the Oceanic 6 with what Jack said about there being 8 survivors makes me think even more that Michael could be one of the O6, with Walt not "counting" because of his age. (I think the only way they could ever bring Walt back is in a FF, given how much he's aged since the first two seasons). And if Michael does end up being one of the O6, I'm back on the "Michael's in the coffin" bandwagon.

3) Given the Kate-Jack future love connection, and the fact she's taking care of Aaron, I don't think there's much chance either Sawyer or Claire made it off the island. Of course, that doesn't mean they're dead...

4) Definitely wondering whether Miles's conversation with Ben was in code, because Kate was standing there. "3.2 million," indeed. Is Miles Ben's man on the boat (even though he's currently off the boat)?

6) Just an interesting aside: I wondered how the O6 were supposed to have been found. Now that we know an island is part of "the story," it suggests the world will think they were gone as long as they actually were (no time travel or faster-slower-time necessary).

Beverly said...

I'm leaning towards believing that Claire dies and Kate tells everyone when she's rescued that the baby is hers. It's probably quite possible that she could pull that off by saying she was pregnant when she got on the plane. They were only on the island for 3 months, but that was island time. How long was it in real time?

Just finished watching….need to catch up on comments by here’s what I thought was interesting.

I think we finally have a definitive answer about time on the island vs off the island. Nothing is ever definitive in LOST, but you have to assume a few things from Aaron’s age and the plausibility of Kate leaving the island with a baby. Time has to go faster off the island than on the island. There’s no other way they would believe that Kate has a baby when she gets home. It would also explain why people don’t age very fast on the island. Kate’s mom says she has been given six months to live for the last four years. I’m not sure at exactly what point 815 went down in correlation to Kate’s mom being sick and Kate going to trial, but I think that was meant to be a hint that a lot of time has gone by off island.

Only 8 people survived the crash. Just a little short! Obviously the 6 are lying about the other survivors on the plane as part of their deal to leave the island. We have all suspected it and now we know for sure.

Jack is simply overwhelmed with guilt. I think we can safely say that Skater is dead and long live Jater. Something happens between Kate and Jack to the point where Kate is ready to move forward with jack after the trial. But Jack is simply to overwhelmed with the lies and guilt he feels for the deal. Is it because Jack promised to get everyone off the island and somewhere along the line made a deal/compromise? I mean a lot of people do screw him over. Sun was pretty bitchy about Kate staying at camp Locke. Or is it because he didn’t live up to his promises and living a lie? Maybe both?

Amazed that Kate went back to face it all even though she knew that her identity was exposed. I was surprised to see that there was no fix in on the trial from Oceanic or Abbadon.

Sun and Jin have to be a part of the last two of the 6. Sun is getting off the island or she will die, and there’s no way Jin stays behind. My gorilla math was right though when I said the baby wouldn’t count as a person :)

Locke is the eternal sucker. Always has been, always will be. “That’s the nice thing about sheep. Their predictable.” He was talking about you John.

$3.2 million. Where did that number come from and why. We know Miles has been shaking people down from his flashback, but what’s the deal with number. Obviously they know a lot moe about Ben than we or the Losties do from his comment and his demands. Ben must have unlimited resources.

Last, what’s up with the three card monty game and Dan can only remember two cards. He is so smart on one hand and can’t remember three cards on the other, ut two was progress? What am I missing here.?

Alright, going back to read comments now.

I noticed that in Jack's testimony he said the isand was in the South Pacific. Does the Sunda Trench count as being part of the eSouth Pacific? I didn't think so given the converstions during the find815 game, but it seems to be linked somehow with finding the freckage.

Maybe that ties in with the extra distance the rocket needed to travel to get to the island from the freighter (Assuming the 31 minutes was due to extra distance). Maybe the wormhole takes you back and forth between the Sunda Trench and South Pacific - East is West.

That is a good possibility. Aaron would be too young to know the difference. Maybe they say that Claire died giving birth after the crash and Kate cares for the baby.

I still like it the other way, and I think that would have been something Jack mentioned in his testimony before Kate cut him off. Guess we'll have to see it in the end.

If there's not any lost time, it could be as simple as the line about Kate nearly starving to death on the island.

Maybe the idea is that she was already pregnant when they crashed and that because of the extreme duress of starvation - she had the baby early.

Maybe the whole reason she seems dedicated to protecting him from the press is so no one can see how old he is.

Just finished, great observations as I skimmed through everything. Will just jot down some thought:

*This episode involved everyone making some sort of deal: Kate with the DA, Kate with Miles, Miles with Ben, etc.
*We got some insight as to why Kate was disgusted with Jack in the first FF we saw in S3...he doesn't want to see the baby.
*This 2 year old Aaron is very confusing to me. Can we assume Claire didn't make it off and gave Kate the baby (after Kate told her she wasn't good with babies)? Kate's mother thinks it's her Grandson. Does the world think it's her real son? How would that happen if there was no baby on the 815 manifest?
*We open with the signature eye shot again!
*DA to Judge: She's (Kate) is the definition of flight. Understatement.
*Hurley to Kate: You just totally Scooby-dooed me, didn't you? LOL
*Sun begins to doubt Jack. Maybe Locke was right about them. (Good to see Jin and Sun.)
*Jack on witness stand: Continues living the big lie. 8 survived crash, they landed in water. Kate took care of them, but 2 didn't make it.
*When Hurley plays "Zanadu" we hear Olivia singing..."Open Your Eyes and See".
*We get another wink with Hurley to Sawyer re Kate.
*Sawyer re Miles: Bruce Lee from the freighter. LOL
*Why does Miles ask for 3.2 million? Obviously, he knows Ben has lots of money. Where did that come from. I always wondered how Ben ran stuff on and off the island...who was backing him? And Miles seems to know they're going to be there for a week at least when he makes his deal with Ben.
*Sawyer to Kate when Hurley flushes the toilet: Me and Montezuma's house. LOL
*What's up with the card memory game? Apparently, Dan is making progress. Maybe it's the healing powers of the island. Remember, we saw Dan as a basket case, and Naomi called him a head case.
*Hopefully, that grenade is a dud. Locke tells Miles: "I'm responsible for the well-being of the island." Doesn't mention the other survivors.
*When Kate's deal is worked out with DA at the end, her attorney says she saved 5 on the deserted island and almost starved to death...how does that account for Hurley?)
*So Jack doesn't know that Aaron is his nephew? Didn't Kate come off the island with Aaron the infant? He can't think it's Sawyers, can he? Well, at least, this explains why Kate is so disgusted with him during the FF in S3.

A great easter egg in this episode: (in screen caps on DarkUFO and DocArtz) The 6 of clubs card that was the middle card in Dan's memory test with Charlotte shows up in a painting of a boy on a bike in Aaron's room.

In re-watching the episode: Maybe Jack didn't want to see the baby (why is she still calling a 2 year old a baby?) because he didn't get Claire off the island and he feels guilty he couldn't save her for Charlie. Another thing he couldn't fix.

erich said...I'm assuming no one believes Aaron is Kate's natural son, and that the reason her lawyer saw him as proof of Kate's good character is because she stepped up and adopted an orphan from the crash.

I was thinking about Kate adopting Aaron and thus he is actually her "son", but if a court is willing to try her for all of her past wrongs, I can't imagine the state would allow a felon (who they intend to put in prison) to legally adopt a child.

I disagree. Don't be so quick to dismiss the possibility that Michael is one of the O6. If he and Walt were picked up by the freighter, they could quite easily have been "rescued" along with the rest of the O6, and presented to the world with the other survivors. Don't you think that little boat would have an awfully tough time making it all the way to any significant landmass? There's a good chance the coordinates Ben sent them to was some sort of boat or group he figured would help them.

As far as the fake identity goes, I think it's very possible that by the time Jack had his breakdown, Michael could have gotten so sick of the O6 attention (not to mention his guilt over what happened on the island) that he changed his name to get a "fresh start." Enough time had passed by then that Jack is being recognized by strangers not as a survivor of 815, but as the guy who saved the woman and her son.

Erich said...

Excellent point. They're going to have to do some fancy footwork to come up with a story for either: Kate having been pregnant and giving birth on the island; or her raising someone else's child.

Now that I think about it, it does make more sense that Kate would present Aaron as her own son. The only way I can see it being the other (and this gets us back into tangled legal territory) is if Claire was one of the 8 survivors, but she died before they could be rescued. Like maybe she made it on the the freighter, but not off? There's still that pesky vision of Desmond's, seeing Claire and Aaron leave by helicopter...

bigdog said...

just wondering who or what did the O6 sell there souls to create and believe such a whopper of a story. It seems to me that if all the survivors would lie to such a degree that it protects them more than it protects the people left behind. If anyone was left alive on the island they are safe since we know that Jack wants to go back but cant.

or do they all work for Ben and his bosses now.

judging from Kates house they all were paid very well.

Good Friday morning LoCo's!

Erich said...

One more observation (well, for now, at least):

Now that we know Kate isn't pregnant, there must be a pretty significant reason for her to leave the island, knowing she'd be risking jail time (which is, apparently, what she wanted Miles to confirm for her). Is it because she makes a promise to Claire about getting Aaron off the island and raising him for her?

memphish said...

Morning LoCos. Good comments last night and this morning.

This episode really didn't sit well with me which is part of why I stayed away. That was the least realistic handling of Kate's legal situation that I could possibly conceive of and as a result I'm having a hard time looking at this episode with much less than disgust. Now I know how my hubby felt about the fictitious kidney sac.

But trying to move past that. I like the math on it taking 37 hours to reach the helicopter. That should work about right given the call to Regina was made about 36 hours after they left. Can't wait to see what's up with that and why Minkowski won't answer the phone. We haven't heard from him in quite a while have we?

One of my favorite things last night was Miles being a stickler for the term extortion and his mention that he knows about Ben unlike the 815ers. Locke and hand grenade was ever more over the top to me than Miles being a ghost whisperer. I didn't like it or his banishment of Kate. If I were on Team Locke, I'd be bugging out NOW even though I'd be losing the opportunity to watch Xanadu. That was funny. Isn't Xanadu a utopian society?

As for how Kate is Aaron's mom, there's plenty to speculate about there, but without much to go on I'd merely say there's no way anyone would allow Kate to adopt an unrelated baby just because she was in a plane crash with him and had been raising him that way. I think the story must be that either she was pregnant before leaving Australia or she got pregnant and gave birth on Island, perhaps by one of the 2 survivors they are now saying died. I agree that the time problem between on and off Island is allowing her to get away with this story. What I can't figure out is when Kate and Aaron and the rest of the O6 leave the Island to match up with Kate's trial and Aaron being 2. If time runs slower on the Island, doesn't that mean Aaron should be at least 1 before they leave? Given our Island pacing that would take another 9 seasons.

As for the theme of deals, I think Jack has made a deal with Ben to allow the O6 to leave. I also think he's the one who has concocted their crash lies because he's the one who seems the most committed to them. As Kate says, it's like he believes them now. So do Jack and Kate become a couple for some amount of time that leads to the prosecutor's question about him loving her? Or is that just part of the story too? Surely it's not the case that they're saying the baby is his, otherwise why not mention it and why wouldn't he have custody instead of a random nanny?

As for the fate of Claire and Jack's knowledge of their relationship -- this is another huge mystery to me. If Kate's at the beach, how will she get Aaron? Why would Claire trust Kate with him instead of basically anyone else on the Island? Is Kate the only woman who leaves and that's why she has him? I don't know, and I don't want to rabbit trail it too far.

As someone mentioned earlier -- why did Kate leave? She knows they know who she is in terms of her criminal past and she's not pregnant? I guess she gets "custody" of Aaron before they leave and that's the reason?

I'm interested to see more about Dan. I didn't see the trailer, so the comments about that is interesting. I wonder if he has come to the Island in part to be healed.

Unknown said...

Other thoughts:

Did Sawyer and/or Kate forget that pregnant women die on the Island? Of course Sawyer should be happy Kate isn't pregnant. Why the hell would she hold that relief against him?

Who was the bearded guy shouting at Kate going into the courtroom? That stuck out from the very first viewing, but I can't catch his identity or his words. Anyone?

Seriously, does no one like the fact that Locke's grenade is known as an "egg hand grenade"? I was pretty pleased with myself for finding that.

some observations.
1. Kate is running away from the island for the same reason she left her cop boyfriend, living in the barracks just hammers that point home. She left the cop when she found out she wasnt preggers because shes a drifter and she couldnt bare to live in suburbia without a child to keep her in one place. I think her and jacks romance might escalate and thats the reason she leaves.
2. Clare obviously doesnt leave the island but is she dead, i vote for yes, funny how the phychic from australia eneded up being right about aaron being raised in LA
3. Did kate mean the fact that jack is aarron's uncle is the reason he has difficulty seeing aaron, or it just hammers home the lie they tell.
4. its obvious that the chopper hasnt arrived yet on the frieghter because of the time disruption. sayid, desmond and ladipus didnt leave for a few hours after the payload rocket came, which is probably days on the frieghter. So the chopper will be like three days in the future when it finally exits the magnaetic field.
5 It seems i was right about Ben having a huge money off the island and double crossing his boss, probably mittlewerk or widmore
6 I wonder now if the helgus antonius is the freighter that miles and the rest are on the timeline would fit, especially is it takes a few days to get off the island that could be a year on the outside world
7 im thinking that daniel is there for more of a locke rose thingy now, where hes got early onset alzhiemers or something(the card memory game)
8 we know ben has the money, but i think that ben can still wiggle out of this one by showing it was he that betrayed his boss rather it was locke
9 i used to think ben was threatened by locke, but now i think ben is grooming locke to be a steward for the island while ben goes off to the real world to destroy his former employer
10 I think ben will somehow be involved in getting the oceanic 6 off the island, makes sense that jack and the others would keep the cover story to protect their freinds on the island, i also think that ben may juist be keeping jack aaaron kate and hurley in cold storage so to speak for a later purpose. It is interesting that all of the oceanic six except sayid are special ones, kate has had visions, aaron is special, hurley saw the cabin and jack saw his dad.
11 i think the way sayid was last week gives credence to coopers story about being kidnapped, because it show what lengths bens men will go to off the island
12 mikhail was in fact more loyal to bens boss than ben, hence why he was mad about the signal being jammed
13 the dharma box wine was hilarious, shows they get newer stuff on the island, not just living off the scraps of dharma

Unknown said...

Thanks, you two. I must have been finding it on the screencaps page just as you were both posting. :)

2costa said...

I also think that ben is playing locke about the jacob thingy to make him want to get rid of hurley, since hurley can still see jacob. Was locking saying he killed a chicken in the way that he killed his old meak self and ben is toughening him up and the blodd was his own from punching the wall or did he actually kill the chicken that laid bens last two eggs, which would be a literal killed the goose that laid the golden egg. I also think that shwing them using all the dharma mugs and stuff hammers home the point that the 815'ers are the new others. I also now think that nadia might be the other N from naomis bracelet. The way she groomed charlie to be a hero seems to point that way. Just as charlies musical skill showed why he was on the island to unjam the signal, i think kate being barren may be part of why she is there, to ultimately take care of aaron, and her 10 years of probation is a way to keep her put with aaron, i think ben may want aaron to age off the island and come back as its savior

2costa said...

another thing that points to the strong time distrubance is that kates mother has been sick for 4 years. I beleive kate went to vidsit her just as she found out she had cancer right before she went to australia, and she was only in austarlia for a few months, so four years seems like a long time gap. That time gap might also play into the notion that jack becomes jacob. If the point of the island is to avert armageddedon than it would make sense that someone has to be off the island to witness history in order to go back and change things. Jack could spend 20 years off the isalnd and go back and maybe one or two years have only passed, which ties to why walt and aaron were allowed to leave to hone their special skills

2costa said...

and grow up a little bit, because the world might end while they were growing up super slow on the island.

2costa said...

i think ben knew he had to leave the island to protect the island and he didnt want to leave it with the others like mikhail and tom because they might double cross him so he got rid of all of them. it obvious that the 815'ers are his newest recruits, sawyer is the new tom to put a conman face on the island like zeke and his beards, sayid is the new richard or mikhail. julliette is the new ethan.

Kate sees her mother in the hospital about 2 years before she goes to Australia. That flashback predates her robbing the bank. The Marshal has some exposition at the end of S1 that sets up that timeline.

ok memphis thats roughly two years that missing because she only lived with the farmer with akiller mortgage for three months, so somehow ninety days on the island is 2 years off the island, the reason they had to say there were eight oceanic survivors is to explain why aaron is still an infant even though it 2 years after the crash. The other 2 survivors are prolly part of the cover story to expalin how arron was concieved and born on the island to explain why he still a baby even though it been two years since the crash and is not kate biologiacal son, since clares mom is in a coma and dad is dead nobody could take aaron from kate

if desmonds vision of clare and aaron leaving on the chopper is true it would seem that the freightys are gonna kill clare and try to take aaron(the real bad people the psychic spoke of tussleing over aaron) thats why i think ben is gonna help them get aaron back and ultimately leave the island, as i said an infant special person does noone anygood but a grown up aaron might be the savior of the island ala neo

the aaron development also shows why charlie had to die because it clears the way for kate to take aaron, charlie would defend aaron to the death if something were to happen to clair

the enhanced episode from last week did confirm that walt and mike were allowed to leave. So that will explain why walt is so much taller. It also seems to confirm a hole in the magnetic field to exit the island the exact coordinates. I just think itll be a few days before sayid and ladipus arrive at the frieghter

I was thinking about Kate and her mom, and it's a very sad situation. He mom basically disowned her, and now the reasons she wants to see Kate again are based on two lies - that Kate was a hero, and that Kate had a baby.

Codysmom said... OK, raise your hand if you thought you'd hear a big BOOM right after Locke leaves Miles with a grenade in his mouth and then they pan to Kate and Sawyer lazily waking up in bed? (my hand is raised)

I just listened. The only thing I hear is the door closing as John leaves.

Me too :) It seems that she might be trying to pass it off as her own.

What if she told people that it was her and sawyers baby, and Jack is mad because he wanted her to say it was their baby - but she didn't want to do that becasue it would have tied her down to Jack.

Thrasher76 said... But that was a shocker, so is Aaron included in the "Oceanic 6?"

I'm thinking no, or they would have made a big deal about it - "The next member of the Oceanic 6 is revealed, on a very special episode of LOST."

at the very least if kate is trying to pass off aaron that explains why there is an oceanic 7 because the child had to be concieved on the island. Aaron was by no means 2 in the flash foward he was maybe 1 at the oldest, two years have passed since the crash, which makes them have to expliain how kate concieved on the island and with who

I thought for sure that Miles would call Locke's poker play and spew the fake grenade out into Locke's face and then snarl with glee.

2costa: That's one big-ass 1 year old.

He calls Kate "mommy." He's older than 1.

And did it look like he was having a bad dream? ...

to me the time discrepency is the next big bomb they have to drop, they have hinted at it but they will have to reveal it soon my guess is when the chopper actually makes it to the freighter. By face value we could think that kates trial and all are on the regfular time line because aaron is about the right age for that but if its 2 years later and not 90 days than they cgot some splainin' to do. Jack was cut off before he got an answer from ladipus about it only being 90 days and he was cut off from telling his whole story at the trial, part of why kate stopped jack is that the story was only gonna get wider and more of a lie as it went along, perhaps kate doesnt want the scrutiny of aarons geneology and if jack had told anymore he would have had to tell a complete fabrication of how kate got aaron
