«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 232 of 232guess this is the last chance for crazy Jacob theories...
1) Was Ben on the Island his whole life?
I say yes. It's more interesting that way.
2) Who/what is Jacob?
For a while I'd convinced myself Jacob was the smoke monster, but I've gone off that crazy train (unless it's true, in which case I called it!). Now I'm gonna say he's Charles Widmore; he's someone with enough money to fund Mittelos/Others, and his judgment that Desmond was "unworthy" made him sound like the kind of guy who'd make a List...
3) Is there a man behind the curtain?
Oooh. Trick question! It is the name of the episode after all.
4) Is that Juliet dressed like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz in the promo?
No idea. I purposely avoided looking at the promo too closely.
5) Will we find out who the woman with the hamster is?
Sure. Why not. It is one of the "biggest mysteries" on the island (right Mr. ABC promo guy?)
6) What will Marvin Candle/Mark Wickman's name be tonight?
Mort Waxburn (figuring it's gotta be candle-related)
7) Will there be TLE shoutouts?
Sadly no...but everyone will think there was.
Was DedJezter's "SEEYUH" comment a callback to the Ron and Fez show on XM and FreeFM (who are friends with one of the Lost writers?) ....who because of their friendship w/the writer, got "Razzle Dazzle" incorporated into an episode?
Happy Lost Day, everybody!!! Can't wait for tonight...
OK, I'll play:
1) Was Ben on the Island his whole life?
No, he always lies, so this can't be true, either
2) Who/what is Jacob?
I'm sticking with my old theory:
Time viewing is made possible by a machine that Dharma invented. Lets call this machine Jacob. Dharma felt they needed something like this to try and change the core factors of the Valenzeti Equation. The incident was when Jacob became AI and Dharma could no longer control it. It started "viewing" things it didn't like and taking primitive (eye for an eye) punishments out on whoever did something that didn't compute with him. Jacob looks for things in the real world that will be a factor of the "end of the world" scenario and the others are his lackies who get the job done by bringing the culprits to the Island where they can do no harm or be eliminated. The Others are a Jacob cult who believes it's abilities will truely save the world (making them the good guys). They have commited their lives around what Jacob wants partly from a belief that He is the savior and partly from fear. They purged Dharma because they (Dharma) saw Jacob as an experiment run amock and tried to destroy it.
3) Is there a man behind the curtain?
Ben is the man behind the curtain. His pretense of all-powerful is beginning to crumble and he can't figure out why Jacob is starting to turn on him.
4) Is that Juliet dressed like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz in the promo?
It sure looks like her...
5) Will we find out who the woman with the hamster is?
Could be Karen DeGroot.
6) What will Marvin Candle/Mark Wickman's name be tonight?
Morty Burnit
7) Will there be TLE shoutouts?
Yes!!!
Got my copy of Watership Down! My library had 5 copies listed, four of them were checked out in the late 90's and never returned. But I did find the exact cover that Sawyer has, so I am a happy cricket.
BTW, if your local library does not have a book, you should ask for it through the interlibrary loan. Just ask the librarian to request it for you, there's no charge. And if they can't find it, you have the right to ask them to purchase it so you can borrow it. This is the way the library system is set up, so exercise your rights, citizens! (and then if you love the book and just gotta own it, then buy it new/used -- I love half.com for all my personal literature purchases.)
I am really stoked about tonight ep. Trying to stay spoiler free...
Answering the questions in the next post...
On to the questions:
1. Was Ben on the Island his whole life? Ben's lies usually involve semantics, and it depends on how he defines "my whole life". He may have been born elsewhere, but then grew up on the island.
2. Who/what is Jacob? I tend to believe that Jacob is real, not a construct of Ben. Ben got a tumor. If not for that, I would say Ben is the man behind the curtain and Jacob is the false idol in front. But I think there is a real Jacob. More than that...I dunno.
3. Is there a man behind the curtain? See above.
4. Is that Juliet dressed like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz in the promo? No, I think someone else, maybe the Love of Ben's Life.
5. Will we find out who the woman with the hamster is? Maybe, and I think it's Karen DeGroot, who I think is Ben's mom.
6. What will Marvin Candle/Mark Wickman's name be tonight? Matt Waxman.
7. Will there be TLE shoutouts? Sure, and only we will get them!
amused - that would be interesting if the woman in the Dorothy dress is the love of Ben's life. Interesting in that she looks so much like Juliet. Maybe there's some displaced emotions at play in his relationship with Juliet, and his insistance that she stay on the island.
I don't have time or a good answer to most of the questions, so I'll just answer number
3) Is there a man behind the curtain?
I'm with codysmom. The Wizard of Oz behind the curtain was a small, unimpressive man. We'll see past Ben's veneer of power and control and meet the real man inside. My guess is he's searching for something that he lost long ago; inside he is like a child who lost his favorite toy.
Happy Lost Day!
This is fun. I nominate memphish to come up with a new list of questions every wednesday for the rest of the season!
What if the irony of Ben is the same as the Wizard, namely, he doesn't really know how to leave either? It makes me wonder if Marvin Candle/Mark Wickman is Roger Workman.
I'll see what I can do Engineer 27. Since it's only 2 weeks, I think I can probably hang.
From the Lindelof/Cuse interview, which was somewhat spoiler-y for those who are trying to avoid all spoilers, but doesn't really give a whole lot away, here's an interesting nonspoiler quote to keep us teased for the finale and season 4: "LINDELOF: And [the season finale] will make you realize that the house you are standing in actually has a lot more rooms than you thought when you came into it."
Looks like there is storytelling yet to come.
1. Was Ben on the Island his whole life? Yes, or he was brought to the island as an infant.
2. Who/what is Jacob? Jacob is the man driving the Others, whether he has simply been elevated to such a high place or is really behind things. I believe the identity of Jacob will not be a shocker answer, like if it was someone we know, but it will be something that will be important for a long time to come.
3. Is there a man behind the curtain? Jacob or Ben. But in all seriousness, Vincent.
4. Is that Juliet dressed like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz in the promo? It's the girl from "The Ring"
5. Will we find out who the woman with the hamster is? Maybe, and I think it's Karen DeGroot, who I think is Ben's mom.
6. What will Marvin Candle/Mark Wickman's name be tonight? Mortimer Chandler
7. Will there be TLE shoutouts?
Yeah, but they won't have any real relevance to the story. Nothing about the TLE ever will, unfortunately- they've made it clear that the TLE was a story that was never going to be told on Lost, so it's not part of what's needed to understand the show. But it might play into what we see tonight.
Oops, I copied-pasted the questions from a2bh and forgot to write in my own answer to number 5.
I think it's Karen Degroot, but I don't think that the DeGroots are Ben's parents. The timing simply doesn't seem to work for me.
Happy almost last LOST day folks.
Memphish, thanks for the compliment on the podcast bit. I may try to do it again this week, but who knows.
Gtall,
Yes... it certainly is. I used to listen to Ron and Fez back in the Day on 102.7 WNEW, when they left (Thanks O & A) I was devistated, now that they are back on 92.3 FreeFM. I listen as often as I can.
Looking forward to tonights show, will be back at go time.
C-ya (<---- see always with the C-ya)

Yes, I think there's something big we'll find out about Ben. I think something awful happened to him when he was young, possibly something Dharma did to him (and his family/friends).

Interesting...the "Citizen Kane" theory of Lost... The Black Rock will end up being a sled.
Ooh. Sorry. That was a "Citizen Kane" spoiler!
Just my local library's one copy of "Watership Down"! Yea!
Spoilers are very hard to stay away from today. I think I'll just "pearl" away here!
Left out "got"! Sorry about that.
SO was that decided as the first book of the book club...
Watership down?
If so I will work on getting a copy.

Is there going to be a separate blog for the Lost Book Club? I assume the front page can be updated with each new book, so people can jump in at any time without having to read all the books to catch up.
Yeah, we really don't need a separate blog, do we? We can just "take" this one over until Feb. 08!
EVERYBODY !! i miss you guys ! so much has been going on, it's been so hard .
i may miss tonights lost which is tearing me apart . i have a stupid chorus concert and no tivo and idk how to set up my vcr . ugh .
Hi Experimental! Can't you just pop in an 8 or 6 hour tape and hit record before you leave for your concert ??? :o)
Memphish,
Leno's interview with Matthew Fox was not spoilery in the least. They didn't even really talk about LOST at all. Leno only asked 1 question, and it went something like this...
Leno: Can you tell us anything about your episode, the finale?
Fox: (laughing) No, I cannot.
Afternoon everybody! It's been a rough day- I'm so glad tonite's LOST night. My (extended) family is really ticking me off- but that's another story. Don't really have time to catch up on comments right now, but can't wait to read all the Q&A's ya'll have listed today. I'll be back after the show tonite (MST).
Wow maven- didn't think about LOST coming back on Feb. 8th- that's my birthday, that would be cool. Since I didn't have a LOST party this past year- I will definitely have to do one for my next bday if the dates collide.
*cracks knuckles*......
'allo, 'allo....
NEW POST!!! The race for the coveted "FIRST" is on. I've got to head out of the house for awhile so I went ahead and posted the next thread a little early.
Can't wait for tonight's episode!

Hi, I found an interesting site to download lost and watch it for free. You can watch it on a small screen like you would do it on a normal TV but via some of weird Chinese TV. Some episodes from season 3 are free to download the are MPEG4 and AVI format with some TV4 HD logo. All for free.
They have got the first 4 season 3 episodes and apparently more to come ... just something to watch out !
