The Package - Season 6, Episode 9

While Sun and Jin continue to search for each other, the Locke monster faces his enemy.

Can we please, PLEASE have a happy reunion tonight?!

In other news, as you may have heard, there is some sort of live via satellite event happening in theaters on Thursday, May 20 (3 days before the finale) - supposedly, Team Darlton will be answering questions and showing a 1-minute preview of the finale.

Is this old news?

Oh boy. Somebody at ABC screwed up BIG time. Next week's episode is already on ABC.com.

I don't see it Amy. I see what they call the last controversial moment but that's Locke with that kid which we saw before

Lisa-Maladylis said...

Oh, I see it. It's a sneak peek. Not the whole show.

Amy Lynn said...

@Lisa-Maladylis, no, it's um, the whole show. And woah. Yikes. Awesome!@!!

well, that's odd, mine says sneak peek. and 60 seconds. Unless of course, this is a April fools joke in which case hahaha
They do have some funny April fools stuff on ABC.com

Not an April Fool's joke, but apparently they've taken it down. Oh, well.

Hysterical take on the V Countdown clock by Stephen Colbert! I came here to link it, but I see Memphish beat me!

Well all I can say is poor desmond, drugged beaten and hauled back to the island.

At least we might get another reunion with Penny scene.

Other than that the episode was interesting and filled in some details about the FS, but did we really need those details ?

Seriously!? I just seen a Flash Forward promo and Simon, Dominic Monaghan said The rules don't apply anymore. You just can't get away from hearing things that make you thnk of LOST.

Just something I was thinking about after watching "All the best cowboys have daddy issues." Maybe Charlie had a little darkness thing after Ethan hung him & Jack beat the life back into him. We all thought it was shock at the time, but maybe it was something else...Sorry, just can't let go of my hope that Sayid isn't completely gone. Really liking the thought that Desmond might do something to help bring him back from his black funk.

memphish said...

I like that idea Ginger. Charlie did get to be an insufferable (insert word of your choice here). But he was able to redeem himself. I'd like to see that for both Sayid and Claire. At least Sayid got a few months with Nadia off Island. Poor Claire has only had squirrel baby.

I'm frustrated with this whole free will/not free will "battle" as it currently stands since Jacob manipulates his peeps into Island life where then, yeah, then you can have free will, but in terms of whether or not you come to the Island, well, free will isn't free. (Sorry that sentence is abysmally constructed.)

charlie definitely went dark jedi for a while there. \

I have been alternating between wondering if ben and widmore waged their whole war knowing the consequences and just went through the motions to lead up to mib becoming locke and ultimately beating mib or if ben and the others trying to kill charlie in the name of stopping widmore and the frieghter before he could restore the looking glass comm link was ben's idea of stopping mib before he started. No freighter, then no 06, all the way to no jacob dying. Widmore on the other hand knows ben linus will kill jacob and trying to take him off the island is is his way to avert jacob from having to resort to plan b. Mikhail and tom all seemed to want the freighter to come. Mikhail not only ensured the signal would stay up, but he saved naomi so she could get the frieghter 4 to the island along with keamy and omar. It doesn't make sense that ben would be able to call smokey and knew about the donkey wheel, but not know about the future stuff widmore seems to know.

perhaps ethan tried to kill charlie in order to stop the time loop from ever happening. Im sure the donkey wheel has been used more than 2 times and every time a time loop was created. The time flashers are key to that happening. No time skipppers on the island and no timeloop when the donkey wheel is turned, unless everyone is especially disciplined during the time loop to not change the future(the rules). If things do change they tell themselves it's because the variable people(candidates) changed their choices.

anyone think the second bunny from the orchid video was from the sideways?

i know ive mentioned it before but i think the sideways may be one of many alt realities, perhaps there are an infinite amount or maybe their are 360 timelines to correspond to each candidate. The sideways is the centric or ideal reality for just one of those candidates, maybe we have seen that person like hugo in the sideways, but maybe we haven't and it's desmond's centric reality. Everyone in the sideways including Ben and Hugo still seem to have their issues. Maybe desmond is so special in the two timelines because they are both related to desmond in particular. In a different iteration of the timeline perhaps jack or whatever would have an idealized sideways reality and on the island would be the chosen one like desmond, in this reality dan would think Jack was very special, because like desmond in the two timelines or more than 2(charlies multiple deaths or claire being rescued by a helicopter) we have seen Desmond is able to go back and forth between the realitys and make changes.

2costa said...

if claire had stayed with aaron she may well have been on the chopper with kate, i think it might have played out like that before just like desmond's vision, but this time mib or christain decided the change things up by having claire wander off. To see what would happen if claire never left the island.

2costa said...

i was also thinking that mib is free in the sideways, but he wont be totally free as long as any candidates are alive on or off island. If everyone else is bleeding through from the sideways, why hasn't locke. Is he really mib in the sideways?

2costa said...

why hasnt miles or hurley communicated with ghost locke? is he still inside flocke?

Amused2bHere said...

Hm. The way they rebooted the Star Trek franchise in the current movie seems a bit familiar to what we might be seeing in Lost, with the two timelines that are related but mutually exclusive at the same time. I won't say more in case someone hasn't seen the new movie.

Coincidence that Damon is involved with both? I think not.

Amused2bHere said...

2costa, who says Miles hasn't talked to Locke? Miles doesn't usually say anything about who he has talked to, he keeps that mostly to himself. (That's why I loved it when he mentioned Nikki and Paulo's diamonds and that they were buried ALIVE with them.)

2costa said...

ya totally amused, i was just throwing ideas out there

i don't know why anyone thinks flocke has any real aspirations of physically getting off the island with his people. He told jacob straight out that after he killed jacob he would kill anyone that tried to replace jacob. Thats his endgame.

i wonder if what bearing you have to leave the island depends on the person. mike was given differnt bearing than frank. Maybe it relates to the 360 points on the lighthouse, their would be 360 bearings right?

2costa said...

it reminds me of supernatural too, like how sam and dean can't die because they still need to fight the ultimate battle. On last night's show they died and went to heaven, but going into the light was actually going back to your body and life and leaving heaven. the reverse of what we thought going into the light was.

there is a lot of fringe stuff too, with the whole alt universes of fringe

Capcom said...

Great comments Locos.

That's what I'm hoping for A2BH....not. :o)

I hate to say it, but I was more satisfied after last night's Fringe ep than I have been so far this season with Lost...we got some friggin answers...tons of them. Very gratifying.

Amy Lynn said...

@Capcom, I don't watch Fringe, but maybe I should. I think the general consensus is that LOST really dropped the ball this season.

Capcom said...

I don't know if you would like Fringe or not Amy, but if you like Lost then you might. It's a lot like The X-Files, so if you didn't like that, you probably won't like Fringe. It's science-heavy like all the Faraday episodes, and there's the monster-of-the-week aspect, but it's also pretty character driven. Although, Memphish gets annoyed with its sometimes-clunky procedural form. The mysteries abound as in Lost, but like Muppet Dr.Chang would say, this week's answers were WONNNNNNNderfulllll!

Check out Dennis' Fringe site if you're at all interested and would want to catch up on the details. http://www.fringetelevision.com/

It's a very mentally interactive show, so there's that also.

lost2010 said...

The nice thing about Fringe. . .is that if you're watching an episode and find you just don't care for it. . . you can turn it off and it doesn't hamper your enjoyment of the next week's episode. They're much more independent of each other - but there is a really nice longer story-arc as well. So they build on each other but you can miss one and catch up pretty easily unless it's one of a handful.

But Bones and Castle are back on so I'm in non-realistic crime drama heaven by now. Fringe is just the icing on the cake!

maven said...

Fringe was great last night. And, believe it or not, FlashForward had a pretty good ending.

Amy Lynn said...

Since the hiatus, FlashForward has been pretty great!

memphish said...

Fringe has been really satisfying this season. A good blend of monster of the week/mythology. If anyone wants to pick it up, be aware that the 1st half of S1 is significantly not as good as it becomes later.

Castle is one of my favorite shows. The cast totally does it for me.

I've never watched Bones.

Flash Forward lost me last week. Last night's episode is on the DVR, and we might get to it, but then again we might not. With what happened on Survivor last night, it's now off my must watch list, so I might find a place for FF after all.

And despite how I've felt that LOST has not been great this season, I'm ready for the last eight hours. Ryan and Jen of The Transmission are the subjects of this NY Times article. That amazes me.

Capcom said...

LOL, Lost2010, true about Fringe's eps.

I'm glad that you like Fringe more this season Memphish! :-)

I just began watching Bones and Castle and really like them so far. I also like The Mentalist...he be cute. And the Asian guy is so adorably serious. It's taking me a while to warm up to Human Target, but I'm trying.

I'd even have to agree that Flash Forward is better now after the hiatus. Maybe the story just had to get by some clunky spots to get to the meat. I'm being nice, haha.

2costa said...

i went through a bones stage last summer, but burned myself out. Supernatural has gotten better and better over the years.

Just Thinking said...

So we have gone through centrics for Jack, Kate, Locke, Ben, Sayid, Richard, Sawyer, and Sun & Jin.

Now I have not seen or heard anything about the next ep- I have avoided the podcasts ABC etc, but I would think that leaves Hurley.

I guess most of you already know if that is correct!

I did catch that there is going to be a 2 week break in April-later in the month, and that Jimmy Kimmel is doing the whole show the night of the finale on Lost with Damon and Carlton and some cast members. That must be a special one since it's Sunday.

Amy Lynn said...

@JT, yes, I know what centric this ep is, but it is interesting that Hurley was also the last major character to have a centric in season 1.

maven said...

Morning all! Interesting how the talk is turning to other shows we watch. Is this a defense mechanism for the void LOST will leave in our lives? LOL

I never got into any of the crime procedurals...Bones, CSIs, Castle, The Mentalist, etc. Flash Forward did finally intrigue me in this last episode...especially the last scene! Fringe is finally coming into full bloom!

I'd be interested in a real person, real use review of the iPad if any of you are getting it. I just see it as a larger iPhone that can't make calls or take pictures.

But maybe we should set up a general TV show blog so we can continue our online talk after Lost is over, about the other shows we watch in common? We can each take a show and make a post about it. :-D

memphish said...

I don't have much to say about LOST either, except for the same things I've been saying all season. If you want to hear a description of how LOST has let down the female characters much as we talked about in past weeks, you can listen to the most recent Orientation Ryan Station where Mo Ryan says all the same things I've thought and have failed to express terribly eloquently. I think it's the lack of Orangina Mimosas on my part.

I'm with you Memphis. I've been really wanting to blog and discuss this season but just really haven't found it as open to wild speculation as before. Mostly because with the clock ticking on it's conclusion any theories thrown out there now will be decided one way or the other in a short period of time.

I think maybe it's time to start looking less at what physical events may happen and more at what it's deeper meanings are meant to be. What are the characters individual journeys meaning to them at this point?

On a side note, I still think it's funny a few episodes back I pointed out that Jacob was also Lucifer (I was referring to the actor playing the role in Supernatural) and then the episode before last he was accused of being the devil. I know I'm a week late laughing at that, and no I don't think there is any truth in that.

memphish said...

There was some interesting talk on LostCasts this week about MIB being Cerberus and Jacob being Hades. That feels a bit closer to me than the Christian parallels we've been trying to parse. Now that I think about it maybe it's more like the Percy Jackson and the Olympian mythology where Jacob is sum of the Greek gods and MIB is Chronos and an amalgamation of the Titans. I know there's been some speculation that Jacob is MIBs father, but maybe it's reverse. Maybe Jacob the son has supplanted and trapped MIB.

this is the best scientific explanation i have seen yet for smokey and m.i.b, i got it some a forum somewhere, dont worry no spoilers

"Anyone remember the Star Trek: Generations episode "Power Play"? You can google it and read the synopsis on wiki. I just watched it and it has a lot of parallels to Lost. Basically the Enterprise answers a distress call and investigates a moon that seems to be uninhabited. A few crewman beam aboard the surface and as they search they become possessed by consciousness' that have been trapped by the electromagnetic energy on the moon. The possessed officers return to the ship and take it hostage in an attempt to escape. It's revealed the entities are ancient criminals that have been trapped for centuries and by possessing new bodies (the enterprise crew) and transporting the remains of their long since unused physical bodies away from the moon, they hope to be free.

Anyways the point is, I wonder if MIB is in a similar situation. What if MIB the man was merged with the Smoke Monster centuries ago because Jacob knew the EM energy on The Island is what keeps the Monster stuck? Like a magnet. So MIB the man was taken to a pocket of EM energy and it merged with his consciousness but destroyed his physical body. (perhaps something like Jon Ostermann transforming into Dr Manhattan in Watchmen). I can't decide whether MIB did something to deserve this, or whether it was an accident. Either way, Jacob realizes that the body appearing to him is NOT his old friend. In the same way the Losties realize the body they see isn't Locke.

We've seen Locke/MIB try and relate to all his recruits in some way, and I wonder if this is similar to what he's doing to Jacob. It appears as someone familiar to Jacob and pleads with him, "Just, let me go." In other words, lets say Jack is the replacement. Imagine Jack on The Island and the Monster in Locke's form conversing with Jack. It would be quite a test for Jack, since Locke was the driving force to help him in having faith, but now Locke's form is pleading with him to be set free and Jack has to not be affected by it. The Monster sits down with Jack and goes thru all the conversations he and Locke had, using those memories to try and disarm Jack and be set free."

2costa here again, this made me think about juliette's scientology tattoo and maybe to dovetail with this theory and there are thetans or xenu trapped in the volcano on the island. Perhaps the evil wine in jaacob's bottle represents the doom that unleashing untethered scientology on the world would cause. There are a lot of parralells to the theory above, scientology, and mib on lost. Trapping trancendant criminals in an electromagnetic.volcanic cell...

2costa said...

i was also thinking that smokey literally consumes the souls of the people he judges and they are added to the collective. He wasn't kidding when he told jacob he just ate. This got me thinking of ghostbusters and miles little dustbuster. What if the island is like the chamber the ghostbusters use to hold the ghosts. Mib escaping means all the evil ghosts get to escape and mess with the outside world in the way they do on medium.

2c said sun is not a kwon in the sideways, probably part of jacob's plan to confuse locke in the changed jacob's touch timeline

and

widmore's people were probably the tranquilizer dart people in the oceanic six storyline.

Oh, nice catches!! and I like your thoughts on what bearing you have to leave the island on... but does it check out with the numbers we know?

Big Dog- I'm with you - I don't buy Sun falling in love with one of her dad's henchmen...

I think Jack's comment about the Tomato is a reference to Ji-Yeon. Sun and baby will be ok.

Am I getting this theory right? Re: FS---815 does not crash, candidates never arrive to stop MIB, MIB escapes--- all that they loved/wanted doesn't happen/doesn't exist? The FS are showing us the beginning of the end?

Zoe's suggestion about sending the Mercinaries is a weird one.... its already been done? hasn't it? Is she sarcastic to Widmore when she says it? Or will we somehow find that there's another out of order thing going on.

I still kind of think the flash sideways is headed for a terrible disaster - and that Jacob was maybe saving them from that disaster by drawing them to the island. Even though right now it looks like he was pulling them to their doom. Maybe they were always doomed - and the chance on the island is really the only chance they've got.

Beverly said...

I'm with you Lost2010. That's what I think too. The FS is starting to unravel.

Just Thinking said...

Thank you TOL. It's touch and go right now.

Re the end- or maybe... Jack has to take a leap of faith at the end to enable the FS to take place.

Are they really going to redeem Ben with Alex like that- and then just take it away?

Perhaps-most of the things Damon links on Twitter are a bit skewed - and they do have that admiration for Stephen King. I haven't read all his books that you have referenced- the ones I have are just too full of nightmare images that I really don't like hanging around in my brain.

Ah well. I saw the next episode title on LP by accident- and it does sound a bit satirical.

I've probably just watched too many of those old 70s sci-fi shows where people were yanked out of crashing airplanes to go to the future and save mankind because they wouldn't be missed. :)

I think I'm the only one who doesn't want the FS to exist or be the ending.

2costa said...widmore's people were probably the tranquilizer dart people in the oceanic six storyline.

2costa If you're talking about the people who were after Sayid with darts, I always thought it was Widmore. He was watching the O6 too. It really wouldn't make since for Ben to be behind the people with darts to still be after Sayid in the hospital when Jack and Ben were on their way to pick him up.

Amy Lynn said...

@SG, we know for a fact that the FS will converge with the island well before the finale.

memphish said...

You aren't alone on that front SG. My problem at this point though is that I can't see how the FS matters if it isn't in fact an ending of sorts. If it remains merely alternate or possible I feel like TPTB have wasted my time with them. I keep hoping they will have retroactive resonance since they've failed to cause the bell to peel, for me, the first time around.

And that is why S6 for now is my least favorite season. I want episodes to work on first watch even if they ultimately work better on rewatch, and for me 1/2 this season hasn't made me care.

Amy Lynn said...

@memphish, I agree, generally, although the writing this season isn't as bad as the first part of S3. Almost, but not quite.

maven said...

Morning all! So sad some of you aren't totally enjoying S6 so far. I'm liking the FS...It's almost like a reunion of characters. I'm one who is...trying to be patient...hoping that my mind will be totally blown by the finale when everything makes sense. My trust in Darlton is complete!

Tess315 said...

I'm enjoying the season over all. But I'm with memphish about the FS though. No matter how much I don't want the FS to be the end, they almost have to be important in some way or they'd be pointless.

2costa said...

thats why im hoping the flash sideways is the original timeline before jacob changed things. It makes more sense that all the people from la were brought to the island in a changed island timeline than the reverse. I think ben and the others actions in past events on the orders of jacob are the difference between the 2007 timeline and the flash sideways. I would also be ok with the flash sideways just being one of the alt's that is the ideal outcome for one of the losties. I.e. the flash sideways is the ideal outcome for hurley or wedding ring wearing 815 flying desmond. maybe there are 360 possible timelines, where each candidate gets a crack at the chosen one. What we saw in season 1-5 was number 4 locke's chance at being the the chosen one, we see how that worked out, locke failing is why is name got crossed off. this might also explain some off the crossed off candidates that are still alive. They failed in their signature alt timeline, but manage to stay alive in someone else's alt timeline. The sideway's is a signature alt timeline of someone, but we are not sure who yet. Perhaps the island is the hub between all these alt's. In widmore's alt he ruled the island for 30 years and failed anyway.

locke obviously lied to claire about her name not being on the cave wall. littleton was there and by flocke's own admission he can't tell who the candidate is or isn't with just the last name.

TheOtherLisa said...

I think am going more with the FS being MIB having had escaped the island and "kept" his "promises"
Anything that "seems good" - will cease to exist.
(yep, even Ben and Alex)

JT- I'm with you on the Stephen King stuff... I read that stuff in my teens, it came back to bite me later... no thanks anymore! LOST is actually borderline nightmarish for me at times!
