Interesting episode, Guge or Goog or however you spell his name really likes to speculate to the nth degree. But he brings up some good questions. I'd completely forgot about Vincent.
The mice and men quote, didn't Flocke say that was after his time? Meaning he's older than 1937. Though I wouldn't be suprised if he turned out to be 1000 years old. Or maybe even older, who knows?
And I thought Ben was evacuated with all non-essential Dharma personnel as a child in '77 along with Ethan and others.
I'll try to listen at some point, but might not get to it - Mr. MadAriad and I are becoming first-time homeowners this week! So I have no spare time. In fact, I shouldn't even be here now ......

I was just catching up on Doc Jensens's reacps over on EW and in his recap for "What Kate Does", he says this about the Others' secrecy. I thought it was an interesting way to look at things. Kinda fits in with time travel/paradoxes/etc.
"the Others are prohibited from playing newsman to the castaways because doing so might unduly tamper with them in someway — as if it's absolutely necessary that the castaways either discover stuff on their own, or are denied info that they don't need to know, or don't need to know yet. As if the Others know what the castaways are destined to do or be and are tasked with making sure that nothing they do unduly influences their destiny"
If that's true, Juliet was truly devious to know all that time that Sawyer was one of these mysterious candidates and never mention it to him. Or maybe she just got caught up in the day-to-day and when Jack came back she was forced to remember what they're really there for. . .and that she was maybe keeping Sawyer from his destiny. . .
That would be interesting. And make some of her actions a bit more understandable.
Or was she a candidate too and thus being kept in the dark to some degree. . .

According to some blogs I've read Burke was on the wall and crossed out.
But doesn't it seem to you that if she was living among them for 3 years that she'd have picked up some of this - just overhearing it and such? Or are the temple Others completely separate from the barracks Others?
I'm thinking they were separate. Also Ben had said to Locke in The Man From Tallahassee that even though his people love the island and would fight for it not all of them had made the commitment.
So, there are levels to being an Other. And Cindy and the 815 children are upper level Others. . .but Juliet wasn't.
That would be my guess since she always wanted to go home.
Like the MIB.
You mean as an upper level Other? Maybe. I'm not sure where MIB or even Jacob stand. I'm not sure they are Others.
Which one is lying more to get what they want. They both seem manipulative to me.
I meant Juliet wanted to go home - like the MIB wants to go home.
But if wanting to go home rules you out - why are Jack, Sayid, and Hurley still on the list - they not only wanted to go home - they actually did.
I think maybe Jacob and MIB are two sides of the same coin. And maybe they're were both charged with protecting the island - but MIB got sick of it a long time ago and wants to go home. But that's probably just what they want me to think before they spin me around on my ear again. :)
Oh I see. The O6 did leave but they all wanted to come back for different reasons except Sayid.
But I'm not sure any of them are commited to protecting the island yet.
I agree with you that Jacob and MIB are two sides of the same coin and MIB got tired. Until they spin us around again like you said. :)
OT Anyone watching ice dancing on the olympics? Anyone think that if her skin was blue, Meryl Davis would look just like a character in the movie Avatar?

About the Others and what they know- per MIB and Richard's conversation- Richard had no idea that Jacob was collecting candidates. So I would say the leaders of the Temple folk are in a different category as far as knowing what is going on.
I always thought that Jacob was trying to get people to do things- but could not just explain to them why. He always had to tell them they had a choice.

ben was never returned to his dad and dharma before they evacuated on the submarine, as far as i know he was still at the temple

2costa, Didn't Widmore have Ben sent back to Dharma after becoming an Other? Wouldn't that mean that his father would have taken Ben off the island when Pierre Chang evacuated the place?
Whatever happened to Walt anyway? Are we ever going to find out about his powers, or whatever it was that made birds die and the Others fear him? Or will it just be written off as the Island gave different people different things?
If Roger Linus left the in 1977 I can't see him coming back. Roger may have thought his son was old enough to stay and not be evacuated.
They were still on the island in 1988 when he stole Alex and later when he helped purge the DI and his father.
We haven't been told for sure what happen to Ben in 1977.

I think people were trying to avoid spoiling the episode title for people like me who don't want to know it. So they are being vague. :)
How to we know that Juliette knew of Sawyer's candidacy? (someone remind me) or do we?
Are we assuming that all Other's knew of the #s and the candidates? Sorry, trying to read quick and haven't listened to pod cast...
Sawyer now wants to go home.... if that ruled people out, we should see him crossed off (unless Jacob was the one doing the crossing off... and that's another "loophole" MIB tied up)?
Have an interesting, unrelated theory on Des---throwing out there--- what if his time in the military prison parrallels his time in the hatch? Is there any possiblity we've already seen his flash sideways?
Hope to get to hear this before the epi tonight..

sorry i thought pointing out the lamp post was being vague...i didn't relate it to anything. i was spoiled by the olp and tv guide. i dont really care about being spoiled for the current weeks episode title, but i know some of you do. The lamp post is not the title this week...

So, dunno if anyone is here... rewatching... Sawyer's account of whi he's on the island... looks like he was course corrected to be on the island (flight, raft, helicopter)?

Usually no Amy. It was originally set up this way to slow lag, but now it is just normal operations around here and in general keeps things on topic within the comments as to not confuse people who come on later and start reading. : )

Hi, all - the new post will be up shortly. The reason that I post it close to the episode start is that a lot of people here don't like spoilers, including the episode title or any images. So, I wait until right before the episode starts.
If everyone wants it up earlier, just let me know.
Also, my new job has blogger blocked, so I won't be able to be on during the day anymore. :( If anything needs updating or any issues arise, please send me an e-mail and I'll take care of it ASAP.
A new post for each ep could actually be set up before the air day, you just have to date and time it for when it should come up and then publish. So it could actually get published before hand, but then timed to post on the front page at any time, e.g., right before the recap version. the ML wouldn't have to be in a rush to get one out, she could just set it up ahead of time, and forget about it and relax.
Typos be dammed. :-p
