fysb, Does that mean the Others are Scientologists? That might explain their lack of willingness to share information with the Flight 815 survivors. If we see one of them jump up on a couch, I guess we'll know for sure.

FYSB said...

Hmmm, memphish, that's a tough call. On the one hand, the Others are smug elitists convinced of their own superiority, isolated in their own community. On the other hand, they seem to be quite comfortable passing out drugs to the Losties whether the Losties want the drugs or not.

If we find out the 4 toed statue is that of Xenon the Alien, that could be a clue. Or if they choose Battlefield Earth for the next book club selection.

FYSB said...

Yes, that kiss was a little too reminiscent of Michael Jackson/Lisa Marie or Liza/David Guest.

Good (late) morning!

OK, so here's my latest crazy theory:

Mr. Smokey is actually controlled by Tom Cruise. The more he jumps on couches, the more active Mr. Smokey is. He must have been doing flips when it got Mr. Eko.

ib4uc said...

Maybe Tom Cruise can guest star as a redshirt and go out for a swim and eaten by the Dharma shark.

Or, better yet, he can play a captured other (like Carl) and when he starts jumping around his cage in his underwear while "Old Time Rock 'N Roll" is playing, Pickett can beat the crap out of him instead of Sawyer.

LOL Fizzbee!! Not to bring down the hot volcanic rath of L.Ron Hubbub's spirit on me, but I agree with you, that's concrete evidence of evil....or at least psycho-thetans. IMNSHO. :-) Too funny Mempish! Yeah, "Him" is L.Ron Hubbub himself!! Battlefield Earth in the bookclub!!!!!!!! LMAO FYSB!!!!!!!! If Smokey is connected to Tom Cruise, it will go after anyone who Tommy deems to be "glib", and who is a psychiatrist. I saw a show last week on the new wave of directors, and JJ Abrams was one of them, and he said that Tom Zenu stalked him until JJ finally gave in to directing MI3 for him. Weird. JJ also mentioned something about the rain which might spoil (not in a "spoiler" way) it for some of our theories, but he said that it rains so much in Hawaii, that practically everytime we see it rain on the show, it's really raining. I hope that he was just kidding, or that is one thing that we can stop theorizing about -- but that could be a good thing. :o)

Yes, IB4UC, I just read also that ABC caved in to some bunch of people who wrote in complaining about the reruns. And leave it to typical management to mis-understand a complaint. Weren't the rerun eps being mixed in with the first-run eps, if I recall correctly? That really chopped up the continuity of the story flow, and I believe that's what people were mostly complaining about, reruns mixed in during the regular season. Unless I'm thinking of another series. But of course TABCPTB read that as "no reruns period". Management! :-(

capcom - like your theory only the "glib" part doesn't explain why Charlie is still alive especially given how often he has been near Smokey. Maybe Tom, like Madonna, has this thing for British people and they get cut some slack. It also explains Libby's death, now doesn't it. Since she was just a psychologist, Tom let Michael shoot her instead of Smokey getting the honors.

Tell you what. This theory is just about as good as most of those out there. Keep 'em coming.

Capcom said...

Heh-heh, too true Mempish, and Charlie is a druggie as well, isn't he? Well we sure know that Tom has a thing for Italians anyway, especially after they gave him that "Man of the Year" award, or "King of Italy", or some such nonsense. I sincerely hope that TPTB don't start bringing in too-famous of actors. Dominic got popular after the LOTRs, but he was still a bit unknown by non-LOTR fans. I think that Chris Carter had a good theory about how keeping the X-Files actors unknown (till the end) would lend more of a realism to the story, but I guess I'd better not start talking about my love/hate/love feelings about that. *sniff* But you know, I bet that if John Travolta was a pilot for Oceanic airlines instead of Kiwi, or whatever airlines it is he flies for, the pilot would still be alive if Tom controlled Smokey.

BTW, in my previous post, "stalked" was the word JJ used, not me. :0\

Due to some unforseen disasters the podcast was cancelled this week. I'm sorry but I had a bunch of personal problems crop up and well some of them reguarded the studio we were using. Hopfully in decmeber when the smkoe clears steve and I can get back in the studio but right now I'm fighting for my Job. So I'm terribly sorry.

Capcom said...

So sorry to hear about the troubles, and we hope that everything goes well for you Passafist!! Good Luck and God Bless.

blueheron13 said...

Good luck, Passafist!

Actually, I'm surprised that ABC hasn't gotten around to creating the post "I Do" podcast that they promised.

memphish said...

It seems lots of podcasters are having a hard time getting out their I Do post-hash, to steal a term from the Offical Podcast. Dharmalars hasn't come out, nor has LostCasts because of microphone issues, and the Lost Chicks are having problems too.

Hope things turn out well David.

passafist (and goog), I also hope all goes well and that you come out of this situation unharmed. Although we miss the podcast, our first concern is your wellbeing.

big hugs to ya!

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Passafist - hope everything goes OK - all our thoughts are with you.

Samantha Welcome to the Blog, I know these breaks seem strange to us Brits as well. Its all down to advertising revenue. The US have a 35 week TV season and in this you have various Sweeps periods where advertising revenues are calculated based on the viewing figures. The networks therefore like to have the best episodes of their top show on in the sweeps periods. With programs like Lost, they can only make 22 or 23 episodes in a year and therefore to fit in with a 35 week schedule traditionally there would be gaps between episodes with repeats. However 24 changed this format and due to fan pressure ABC agreed to change the format with Lost but in order to allow time to produce Lost and fit in with the sweeps they decided to simply split the series into two. I understand Fox have decided to drop the hiatus for Prison Break (except for a 2 week break for pre-scheduled sporting broadcasts) so there is hope for season 4 of Lost.

Hope that makes sense and that our US friends here will correct me if I got any if it wrong!

ib4uc said...

dark angel... that pretty well sums it up. I just wish they decided to show reruns instead of no Lost at all...

ib4uc said...

Boy, it's dead in here.

Just a peek in to wish all US TLCrs a "Happy Thanksgiving" (We're celebrating tomorrow since my son has to work on Thursday!)

Passafist: Good luck with your job. Personal stuff should always come first! The Podcast will be missed, but we all understand.

Dark Angel: Excellent explanation as to ABC's decision re the long wait until February. Thanks.

ib4uc: I think we need a post-mortum on this blog!

Chris Procter said...

Hi Guys,

I know it's really quite around here, Just o let you know I have almost finished the first draft of my Lost short story, so I will then start all the rewrites and when I am happy with it (hopefully before too long) I'll publish it here.

In the meantime Happy Thanksgiving!

memphish said...

Samantha - love your Tom and Smokey analysis. I think the Smoke Monster has been wearing lifts or standing on a box when we see him. That would explain his apparent stature.

Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving, otherwise known as Thursday for those of you not in the US. I'll be computer-free starting tomorrow. I hope I'll return home to find there's been lots of interesting chat to catch up on like Dark Angel's short story. Looking forward to it.

As for the break, both I and my family are glad that I don't have to rush to my Thanksgiving destination tomorrow only to sit in front of the TV and shush everyone else. I'm ready for new episodes, but I like that I don't have to stress over fitting them into my holiday schedule. I'm betting January's going to be tough. As early as it gets dark these days, maybe I can just get ahead on my sleep so that I can stockpile hours of computer time come February 7th.

Capcom said...

Hi All!

The Tom/Smokey thing could even more so confirm my theory that Smokey is an Id Monster like in the movie "Forbidden Planet"! :-D Matt Lauer (Mr. Glib) better watch out.

I am sorry to report that Charlotte passed away today.
She gave us five special years and she will always be remembered and loved.
Rest In Peace.

Chris Procter said...

Hi Dennis so sorry to hear about Charlotte, my thoughts are with you. The picture of her you linked of is lovely and must bring back many happy memories.

Chris Procter said...

For those of you that are spoiler fans - check out Dark UFO's Rumour Page . There are some very interesting rumours culled from Buddy TV. The first one (which I won't mention here) certainly matches some of my thoughts on the forthcomming events.

FYSB said...

Oh Dennis, that's so sad about Charlotte. I can honestly say she could not have had a better family.

Chris Procter said...

Hi JGZ350

It's all very wet and dismal over here, I guess the weather is a bit nicer in Huston! I've actually only spoken to one person about Lost since it Premired over here - but they liked it. I haven't heard anything in the media but then I don't read tabloids or watch much TV so I've probably missed a lot of the hype and reviews.

Yeah the 'Rumours' are pretty wild - I like the idea of No.1 and the casting mentioned in No.9 is I think pretty much a fact.

Capcom said...

Aw, Dennis, I'm so sorry to hear about Charlotte! She was a member of TLC as much as any human and we'll miss her. XO

maven said...

Dennis: So sorry to hear about Charlotte. Losing a pet is like losing a friend.

Dark Angel: Thanks for the rumors link. It's the only thing we can cling to during the long wait. LOL

Happy Thanksgiving to all us U.S. people! (I'm starting my turkey now...my son works Thursday, so we're getting together today! ...To the kitchen!)

engineer27 said...

I guess ABC is taking a page from the OPEC playbook: artificially reduce the supply and watch the value skyrocket!

Or perhaps they want us to buy season 1+2 DVDs and spend the hiatus watching those.

Anyway, happy Thanksgiving, USTLCs.

FYI: "Daybreak" was #35 in the ratings ("Lost" has been #10 consistantly!)

Dennis, so sorry to hear about Charlotte. My heart is saddened by your loss. May you have many happy memories to cherish.

Samantha, welcome to the Community! Glad to have ya!

Dark Angel, I am so looking forward to your short story. You write your comments so well, I just know your fiction will be a treat too.

and to all the Lost Community: Happy November 23, 2006! Let's find a reason to be thankful, and celebrate our blessings!

I am thankful for YOU!

engineer27 said...

Greetings all.

No Lost tonight, and I wasn't interested in Daybreak. So instead we watched "Exodus, Part II" (finale to Season 1).

I noticed in this episode that while Locke is being stalked and eventually grabbed by the "smoke monster," its movements are accompanied by lots of mechanical noises, including what sounded to my ears like a huge chain being dragged around. We don't hear any of this noise during "Smokey's" appearances in Season 2 and 3. Suddenly, David and Goog's theory that somehow Smokey was once trapped but is now on the loose makes some sense. Except that what freed it was not the implosion of the Swan station. It was the dynamite that Kate threw down the hole, after which the black cloud moves away silently.

So perhaps it was Kate and Jack, not Desmond and Locke, that let the monster loose.

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving.

Good News Ladies and Germs!!! The Goog and I will be going into the studio tomorrow to produce a new podcast. Actually it's a Vidcast, so It's gonna take me a couple of days to edit it and put together my Pal Dark Angels content. But hopfully by Monday afternoon we'll have a brand new podcast available. WORD UP!!!

Twinkle said...

You're welcome, all! We finally got caught up on our Lost watching last night. I came to some different conclusions about some of the things people were saying about "I Do." But maybe that's because I heard many of your theories first! :-) I don't think Kate committed to loving Sawyer. She only kissed him in response (which is what I think people do when they don't want to say definitively how they feel). She seemed much more committed to Kevin, although granted they are very different relationships. Jack's taking control of the situation with Ben's surgery took me by surprise. I thought I knew what happened from reading the blog but it was different in my mind. Also I don't think the Others orchestrated or played on the Losties as much as some feel. I think they are great improvisers. They might have multiple objectives (or variations on a couple) and are content to see which ones work out. They toss their seed to the winds, as it were, and see where it sprouts.

There's a programme on BBC's Radio Four about numbers transmissons. I thought the Lost writers had made this up, but apparently short wave is full of hundreds of these mysterious coded spy broadcasts. It's eerie stuff.

Check it out.

Hello all!

This week's EW magazine has the Stephen King/Lindelof/Cuse conversation. (It took place on Aug. 11th, but it's in the Dec. 1st issue.) It's very entertaining and you'll see confirmation how much of LOST is based on THE STAND. There are a few spoilers in a sidebar...so be careful.

Capcom said...

Hi Friends, I hope that everyone who had a Thanksgiving, had a good one. Thanks Twinkle for the Top 50 list. I read it a couple days ago (and yesterday my brother got married and today I have a raging cold) so I can't remember if the authors included the Swan mural and blast door map in their list, did they? Those are two things that I would have VERY much liked to have gotten some s'plainin' about, but we probably won't now, if they are destroyed.

Thanks for the link to the radio information Tallguy, that is weird.

Thanks Maven for the heads-up on the EW article. I loved the Stand, saw and read it a few times.

Capcom said...

Tallguy, I just finished listening to the entire BBC program on radio cryptography (and rewinding it some), and it is SO fascinating! It's true as the BBC announcer says, that there's a "strange drama" about it. Thanks again mucho for passing it on! I'm going to try to find some number stations on my little SW radio.

Cam794 said...

ah man thats creepy but facinating

passifist, would just stripping the audio from the video cast, suffice for itune distribution?
(I am itune illiterate)

I have used:
"Witcobber Super video to audio converter"
to rip audio from AVI files, and it works great. Other vid formats are supported besides AVI

BTW, I enjoyed the video podcast! :)
