Hi! Absolutely love the comments!

This one's for email...

Hi ellen, how'r'ya doin?
Loved the podcast, guys...
You were talking about the fight is for the island, but why... Also, where does Jacob fit in?
I wonder if Widmore was the Jacob=oracle before Ben... that he was the only one who could communicate with Jacob at one time? It seemed to me that Richard Alpert recruited and groomed Ben to be the new Jacob-oracle, or at least recognized that Ben had the potential for that. Could Widmore have been pushed out of the original hostiles group for some reason and there was a mutiny by the other hostiles against him?
I know, that's a crazy thought because we're all assuming Widmore is connected to Hanso (from TLE and "Bad Twin"), but I think it would be cool.
I'm sure I have this wrong, but the whole thing with the Black Rock and Widmore and Ben's RULES make me think of pirates... lol. Their RULES remind me pirate codes, "Articles of Agreement". Could Widmore buying the Black Rock journal have more to do with wanting to know the pirate codes of the time more than a way to find the island? Maybe he just wanted to find a loop-hole so he could change the rules:) Actually, I just want to see eyeliner guy in full pirate costume... LOL He could rival Johnny Depp, IMO.
I'm reposting this from the previous post because this has to do with the podcast:
Great podcast guys. I think we all first thought that the WAR was going to be the Losties VS the Others. But we now know the WAR is Ben VS Widmore.
Why is Jack getting sick on the island? Why can't the island cure him? Is it because things that happen on the island (like Jack's appendix and Ben's tumor) can't be corrected if it occurs on the island. The island can cure Lock's legs and Rose's cancer because these things started off-island.
I still think the freighter is the one ahead of time on the island. The clue is Dr. Ray's boo-boo. On the freighter it's a healing scar...on the island it's a fresh laceration with really big stitches.
I like your take on Smokie. Ben might be able to summon him, but he can't control him. If Dharma could summon it, why would they build the sonic fence? Most likely they couldn't control it.
Re your questions:
Ben said those awful things re Alex because he didn't think she'd be executed...the rules of the game were changed.
Ben's smirk as he walked away from Sayid said it all...Ben got what he wanted out of Sayid...to willingly work for him.
I think the O6 are somehow very integral to this Ben/Widmore war, and they were all manipulated somehow to be on Flight 815. They will eventually all work for Ben in his struggle to win the island for once and for all from Widmore.
I've seen some reviews of last night's American Idol being related to LOST! LOL Paul Abdul gave a critique to Jason of the two songs he sang...although he had only sang one of them at the time! Paula did some time-shifting and knew what was going to happen from the future...like Ben! LOL
Maven, I like your thoughts in the last thread. It's fascinating to see how Ben gets exactly what he wants out of people without forcing them at all, except for the fact that he minipulates the heck out of them by dangling what they want in front of them like juicy carrots. I also like the idea that the island can cure ills that happen off-island. But, what about the wounds that heal quickly, like Locke's hand and Naomi's first wound? (I didn't listen to the podcast yet, so sorry if someone mentioned that)
Good points Codysmom. I'm wondering if non-TLE-ers are really going to make the connection of the depth of the relationship between Ben and Widmore. I have found that I am totally not able to see the show thru non-TLE eyes, now that I know all the juicy back-story of the game, and I make the mistake of assuming that people I'm talking to about the show know those things too, and they don't. Which make me wish that TPTB would put a feature in one of the DVDs going through the entire TLE experience for those who didn't play it. Or did they and I just don't know it because everyone has borrowed my DVDs and I haven't been able to go thru them all yet? :-(
If anyone wants to see a couple of newly released promos for the next ep, they are over at Saywer840's blog. I think that people who don't like certain Losties, including myself, will be very pleased next week. :-O
capcom, sometimes I wonder how much of TLE we should be thinking (in literal terms) since Darlton has said it's not canon. That seems like such a long time ago and I think the main point was to show us more of the Dharma Initiative.
I'm not sure if I want to see the new promos or not.... trying to remain spoiler-free:), but thanks for the info.
There's a new article on EW (a review of Lost by Ken Tucker):
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20196503,00.html?xid=email-alert-lost-20080430-item1
(see you later... got a dr appt)
Hi Codysmom! I'm doing well, thanks! I just finished the quilt I was working on, and now I find myself with time on my hands...!!I can finally talk with you guys...if I can find something to say that hasn't been said already! Love the ideas floating around.
xxoo
Yeah, just peeps like me and 2costa watch the promos. :-) I don't remember TPTB saying the TLE was not canon at all, clearly many aspects of it are in the show. Those are the parts that I'm talking about, that have more meaning to us, canon or not. :-)
I agree Capcom, I watch promos and mild spoilers too. I sometimes refrain from commenting for fear of accidentally spoiling things for others. I'm sure that Darlton said that TLE is not cannon, but you are correct in saying that it provided a very rich background for those of us who played!!
Now that we are coming into 2005 in the series flash-forwards, I think more of TLE will be incorporated into the storyline. After all, the main characters in TLE are popping up here and there now. All we need is Mittlewerk, and we're in business!
xxoo
Yes, I try really hard not to talk about the promos here too Ellen! :-D
OK, I guess that I don't understand what people mean when they say that TLE is not [at all] canon, i.e., that it contains none of the show's established principles. Things like Widmore, DHARMA, the island itself, the transmission of numbers, all these and more (but not everything) were written into both the game and the show. Soooooooooo, these things are not considered canon? Clearly the games are partially accurate to the show, so it cannot be said that the games are entirely non-canon -- because some principles of the games and show are indeed entertwined, and the same. Whew! :-)
This link will probably give you the canon info you're looking for.
wiki
Oh shoot. I was going to say go to Looking Back. But my husband interupted me and I forgot.
However I agree with ellen. I seem to remember TPTB saying that the TLE stuff would not end up in the show.
Wow! I just watched those promos over on Sawyer840's blog. This show is getting soooo good. Not that it hasn't been good, but you know what I mean. ;) I would so love to comment on one of the previews because it gave me one wacky theory in my head....but I won't.
Also, I just have to say, (and this doesn't have really anything to do with the promos, so it's not spoilery) I hate Charlotte. I absolutely hate her. I want Kate and Juliet to beat the snot out of her. There I feel better now.*sigh*
Actually, I did read the Lostpedia info, and it does post TPTB as saying that some parts of TLE are a part of the show. So saying that TLE will not end up in the show is not true, because some of it has. It's just that ALL of it won't. Damon says in the article that, "...I would say in terms of all the...background that we did, in terms of the Valenzetti equation and explaining the formation of the Hanso Foundation and doing the other films...we’d consider that stuff canon to the show...in fact many of them were written by us personally so they are canon." It's not that I don't understand what TPTB said, I don't understand why some people think that all of TLE in general is not canon (established principle) to the show, because that's clearly not the case, e.g. like I said, the island, the numbers, the transmission, etc, are there in the show. :-)

Spoiler code off. :-)
I really liked Charlotte as a scientist at first, but she has been acting like secretive dork lately. Maybe the F-4s were told that they would lose all their pay if they told the Losties what they were doing there?
Did the podcast download in iTunes for everyone? It hasn't shown up in mine, but I'm switching over computers this week, and things are a bit up in the air.
Capcom: I know it's so hard to take out of TLE what TPTB would consider background to the show. An assumption on my part would be the DI, Hanso, Valenzetti Equation. I'm assuming the not canon part is Rachel VS Mittlewerk (and Rachel being Alvar's daughter).
...trying so hard not to watch those promos! UGH!
Hi and e-mail mark, and Memphish it's not in iTunes for me yet either and I tried pulling it in too. I guess this is one that takes a few days to get there. Looking forward to tomorrow.
Me too Maven. Although I would really like to see Mittlewerk show up, he was just so dastardly!
Don't look at the promos, if you will hate yourself afterwards, only one more day till you can see everything. :-)
Thanks maven
That's what I was trying to say when I put that link up. I guess it didn't come across that way.
I wasn't saying the TLE wasn't canon, or that parts of the background wouldn't end up in the show. We know some of it did even before the TLE. But that most the background charcters like Mittlewerk Hugh McIntyre and Peter Thomas etc. and they're dirty dealings probably wouldn't show up in the show. When I said I thought that I heard that the TLE stuff would not show up in the show that's what I was meaning. The show stands on it's own without it and the TLE is extra info for the hard core Lostie.
Memphish,
I wasn't able to download the podcast yesterday, but today it worked for me.
Another game from the series is Battleship.(Hugo in Santa Rosa).
A game where you search the ocean for something you can't see.
Good call about Battleship, Village!
I've sent my comments on Valis off for the podcast tonight.
It was quite a wild read !
Happy LOST day LoCo's. Gotta get the kids off to school so I'll check in again later. Start the countdown- tonite should be good!
Happy Happy LOST Day!
I guess the VALIS podcast is still on at 3pm PST. Hope to be there and try to make sense out of that book. LOL
Anyone check out the new Doc Jensen article for spoilers? Thanks.
Happy Lost Day! Can't wait for tonight!
I went ahead and read the Doc Jensen article and other than the tease in the first two paragraphs, it's basically a couple reader mails and then some really wild theories of Doc's... Even with the first two teaser paragraphs, I didn't find it all that spoilery.
Thanks, Codysmom! I'll go read it now.
Can't wait for tonight's episode! I have three potential directions I see the beach action going, and I don't have major problems with any of them.
BTW, from yesterday... capcom, you're right about the parts of TLE that are canon AND thanks for that link from Lostpedia, sayid'sgirl (Looking Back section). That cleared it up for me a lot... I was going by what I heard in a previous OLP where Darlton quickly answers "canon/not canon" to a list given to them.
So, are you going to share your speculations with us, Kyle?
Yeah Kyle- don't leave us hanging!
I have a theory about the Aaron, Kate, Claire, and Jack that would be quite a twist....
Guess I'll go try out Doc Jensen.
Well, I wasn't sure if we were talking about promos here. But I will indeed share.
The regular TV commercial is pimping the idea that "the Island will claim one of the survivors for its own." That is bracketed by Jack passing out and looking dire, and Claire and Aaron hiding from a menacing Keamy, only to have Aaron cry from his hiding place.
This would seem to indicate that casual viewers are being led to believe that either Jack, Claire, or Aaron will die. We know that it can't be Aaron or Jack, because they're O6.
So my possibilities are these:
1) Claire dies, and Keamy is somehow prevented from killing everyone else in the hiding group.
2) The commercial is playing fast and loose with the word "survivor," and could be intending for it to mean "survivor (of the helicopter's rough landing)". In this case, I'd look for Frank to be killed by Keamy. Keamy's obviously the devil we know, and is being built up to be super-evil. Killing Frank (everyone's favorite Jimmy Buffett lookalike) would enhance that rep of evilness.
3) We're about to see another attempt on the Island's part to physically "take" someone, a la when Smokey tried to suck Locke into a vent. Could be Jack, to heal him or communicate with him (might explain the Island's prevention of his suicide in the future), or maybe Claire and/or Aaron (relating to Malkin's prophecy of their importance). Remember that Emilie de Ravin and Matthew Fox are both deep in either filming or promotion of new film projects, and could probably use a little less screen time as a result (remember We Are Marshall and the end of the Hydra Island storyline).
/long comment!
Hey Kyle- we often think along the same lines. I didn't know if we could post about the promos, but I think the promo you mention is the one that aired right after the show, so I think it's fair game...
That's actually the promo that caused me to have my theory-
Based on the same line, about how the island will claim one of the survivors as it's own: I was wondering if Smokey won't grab Aaron (because right after that line in the promo is finished, you hear Aaron cry)- because like you said, Aaron is supposed to have some kind of significance. Anyway, if Smokey grabs Aaron, Claire would probably not leave the island, meaning she doesn't die and TPTB are just messing with us. Then, someone made a comment about Kate and the cracker comment last week, maybe Kate really is preggers, gives birth after she gets back to the real world and names the baby Aaron (don't know why- maybe an homage to Claire's Aaron). Then the whole awkwardness between Jack and Kate would be (as we first thought) because she had a love child with Sawyer. It would at least explain how an international fugitive and murderer would be allowed to have custody of a child- if it were her biological child. Of course, it doesn't really explain how/why they would call the love child a member of the O6...so there are holes. But wouldn't it be an interesting twist on what we think we know?
Funny how these things always sound better in my head than after I type them out. :p
Kyle and Scoutpost, I'm skipping your theories for now, so be sure and tout them again later tonight if you're right. :-)
Hey gang
codysmom
You're welcome for the link.
Kyle and Scoutpost I think I'll skip your promo theories for now also. I haven't seen a promo about the island claiming someone for it's own. Only one with Jack passing out on the beach and Sawyer and company hiding from Keamy in the jungle.
I wasn't sure if I'd get a chance to talk about the show tonight. My monitor decided to die on me at 7:00 last night and I just got back from buying a new one.
Before I forget and get involved in tomorrow's discussion:
It's 2Costa's Birthday tomorrow. Hope you have a happy one, 2Costa!
I think I'll skip the preview talk, too, but will definitely check out Kyle and scoutposts ideas after tonight's episode.
sayid'sgirl, good job getting a new monitor so fast... see ya tonight!
2costa...
where are you? I heard it's almost your BIRTHDAY!!!!! Hope it's a great one!
I sure hope nobody dies on Lost tonight......
Codysmom, I'm with you. I've had enough LOST deaths lately. I heard one podcast say last week was the most non-finale deaths we've ever had.
Happy Early Birthday 2Costa! Hope it is a great one.
Oh, and Dennis or David, the latest TLC podcast still hasn't shown up in iTunes. Is something not set quite right, or is iTunes just slow?
codysmom
Yeah I wasn't sure I'd find something I wanted in my price range but I got lucky. I didn't have much going on today so had time to shop around.
See ya tonight.
Happy birthday tomorrow 2costa!!!
Hey no problems about the theory- I don't want to spoil anyone and hope I haven't ruined anything. (The promos weren't actually that spoilery anyway.)
And you know I don't usually hit the jackpot in the theory section, so even if you don't go back and read it- no worries! :)
I kinda like Doc Jensen's Konshu theory. Hoping that his alien theory is not the case though. I'd like to keep all my aliens on the X-Files.
Wow this sucks. Not only have I never been able to use talkshoe due to my ancient computing device, I can't even listen to it anymore. Even when logged into Talkshoe, I no longer get the listen live button that used to be there under the join now button.
My computer is really starting to annoy me.
Can't wait for the show.
Sorry about your technical problems, Ded! We had an interesting discussion.
It's all good.
I am working on getting a used PC so that I can actually join the world. My Mac is good for everything I use it for, but the web is leaving me behind... lol
Carlton Cuse: I think that for us, yeah, I mean, all of Alvar Hanso and his relationship with funding the DHARMA Initiative is part of the mythology. The details of the Hanso Foundation’s demise…it’s tangential to the show but it’s not unrelated to the show. We sort of felt like the Internet Experience was a way for us to get out mythologies that we would never get to in the show. I mean, because this is mythology that doesn’t have an effect on the character’s lives or existence on the island. We created it for purposes of understanding the world of the show but it was something that was always going to be sort of below the water, sort of the iceberg metaphor, and the Internet Experience sort of gave us a chance to reveal it.
Damon Lindelof: I would say in terms of all the… background that we did, in terms of the Valenzetti equation and explaining the formation of the Hanso Foundation and doing the other films…we’d consider that stuff canon to the show. Where there’d have to be wiggle room is the Rachel Blake story where she’s in the real world, in the outside world as we define it, the show Lost might be defined in an entirely different outside world so we can’t vouch for the overall fit ability and veracity of everything that Rachel was doing. But we can say that all the factoids that she was uncovering were vetted, in fact many of them were written by us personally so they are canon.
so everything but rachel and even maybe rachel are canon just not as they relate to reality as we know it... find815 isnt all canon
ya personally i never consider network promos spoilers, but i know there are peeps on here that are more sensative than that. I think there should be a less restrictive thread for discussing the next weeks episode, seems sort of arbatrary to just consider the promo at the end of the ep nonspoilerish, but the subsequent promos spoilers since they change all week
Listening to the podcast right now and they mention the Sonic Fence and how it has to have been built to keep smokey out, not just people. The reason I think they didn't just build a wall with barb wire is that smokey would be able to go over it, but I have to wonder why didn't Smokey go over it, in the last episode it came over a house which was clearly larger than the height of the sonic fence. Is it just me or does this not make any sence to you guys as well?
Well, maybe the sonic part of the fence repelled Smokey.
I hear ya Ded. All I can think it that it has something to do with the electronic interference caused by the fence, and whatever Smokey is made of. And then there would be an assumption that the sonic "field" continues upward to an infinite (as far as Smokey's access is concerned) height. TPTB say that he's not nanobots. That doesn't rule out other nano-ite type materials specifically. But I think that TPTB mentioned something about a cloud of metal filings, unless they were just kidding about that. If that's the case, color me gullible cuz I thought that it was a cool idea. :o)
BTW, it will be very difficult for me to believe that Jack is suffering from XXXXXXX (as seen in extra promos), and as a doctor, he didn't recognize that and thought that it was just a bug. Unless he was just lying to Kate. Hopefully that will be explained better tonight.
Okay, can someone come over here and tell my husband that it is NOT fair to taunt me with spoilers that he read on the internet?!
Sheesh!
I'll be right there....
Now, listen, Mr. Lossa.... CUT IT OUT!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks, codysmom. :)
By the way, how much does this weather suck?
LOL.... at least it's warmer!
Getting excited.... only 10 min!
Sounds like you need a household spoiler policy Melissa Lossa.
I know, I've been wearing my winter coat the last couple of days!
memphish - He knows better than to actually tell me anything, but he says things like "wow, tonight something CRAZY will happen." (not an actual quote) Drives me nuts!
Saying something crazy will happen is like saying the sun will come up tomorrow:)
Very true. :)
Hey, I just christened the new post.
Have fun everyone on EST!
