FIRST!
That's the first time I've ever been first!
Congratulations, lostit!
Good Morning!
Listening to podcasts and marking a spot for email...
xxoo
Great job getting the show up fast guys. I'm taking it on the road.
Yeah they're really on the ball this week.Dennis had the new post up last night before I went to bed.
And after an hour of shoveling I can get out of the driveway. Yea!
harper right maven, i was pretty zonkered when i watched it the first time. I think that the fact that naomi is the only freighty that walt/ben wanted dead seems to show that the other four are just as lost as the 815'ers, plus ben mad ea point of seperating them from widmore when talking to locke. Ben had to be smart enough to know charlotte was wearing a vest, so just as he didnt shoot to kill locke, he didnt do a head shot on charlotte, it was more of a symbolic shooting, in charlottes case to bring the truth about who she is to the surface.
if the tempest is just a power station or gas station, then why was goodwin working with harsh chemicals on a daily basis, either as i said before, ben controls the air and whats in it for the whole island from the tempest, pschotropic chemicals in the air could explain group hallucinations. I think it also speaks to what the black smoke is, if its not nanobots, maybe its a chemical organic computer or arm of the tempest computer. Perhaps Harper is programming it with ways to judge people, with her pschology skills and knowledge. I first thought that during the purge they used individual canisters of gas, so what gas is controlled by the tempest, maybe the black smoke was the gas they made inert? If the whole island was rigged to nerve gas why did ben use a can with his dad, just for the personal touch?
Toxic chemicals or gases could be a by-product of the power plant, at the very least. So maybe they contain the byproduct, and save it for evil application if necessary? Could have been the DIs that started that, if it's the case, against the hostiles.
Harmful chemicals could also be at hand for the cleaning and maintenance of the equipment. Or at least that could be their excuse for having them. I don't know much about "gases of mass destruction" like ricin, mustard gas, etc., but I would imagine that most would have residual effects that would have to be cleaned up. Whatever they have seems to disperse on its own, as we saw in Otherton after the mass gasing.
I think that we need more info before we can figure out exactly how Ben, or the DI, was using the power plant with a dual purpose as a weapon, as well as a power source.
Good thoughts in the podcast, guys.
I definitely agree that Harper is "the worst therapist ever!" LOL I think she's there to get more info on people so Ben can use it to manipulate some more.
Ben must have been planning this War for a long time. He has known that Widmore was after the island since at least 1996 when he obtained the ledger. The question is who is backing Ben in this war? Where would 3.2 million come from or the means to come and go from the island with fancy suits and fancy money? Also, does Widmore have a "man on the island" like Ben has a "man on the boat"? How else did Dan get that map? Maybe Widmore got to Alpert when he was off-island and convinced him that Ben's agenda was bad for the island. Remember Alpert told Locke that this pregnancy thing was diverting Ben from other more important thing.
The scene with Claire was important to show that Locke's group is beginning to doubt him. That adds to Ben's needling.
Like you take on the Temple possibly being a bomb shelter to protect Ben's people in case the gas goes off.
2costa: Maybe Ben used a canister of gas because they were in an almost enclosed environment of the VW bus. And wanted to make sure Daddy got a good whiff!
Yeah, maybe there are catacombs under the Temple to hide in!
Interesting thought about Richard and Widmore. I kind of got the idea that Richard meant that Ben was not directing all his energies to protecting the island, while he was worrying about fertility, but maybe I was off about that.
I agree that Ben could have used Harper's notes against people, bigitme! What a great way to stay one step ahead of everyone, and to have everyone stay clueless about him.
P.S. Maybe I should have said, "...while Ben was worrying about fertility, AND, obsessing about the fertility doctor".
the ben"putting goodwin in harms way because of his affair with julliette" thing also seems to shed some more light on why dr. BUrke got hit by a bus. I thought it was because he wouldnt let julliette go quietly, I think its that but also, is like julliettes version of locke having to kill cooper to fully commit to the island. Julliette was divorved from him and still worked for him and was still afraid of him, so the bus thing was needed in order for julliette to fully commit to the island. Plus the burke bus incident reminds me of mike getting hit by the car, which may in fact tie in this week. If the speculation about the man on the freighter bears out...
Good points 2costa. :-)
Hi all, I've only just caught up and have 5 mins to post what with work, and life in general getting in the way.
After seeing the episode my thoughts on Ben, with my junior psychologists hat on, are that he is emotionally very immature.
He sees things like a child in terms of good and evil, right or wrong, Juliet is mine, and if anyone gets in the way I'll throw a (murderous) tantrum.
I now want to see Ben playing horseshoes with the guys, discussing girls and how they are different from boys !
Also Juliet in a bikini coming out of the sea, who said there wasn't enough female eye candy !
Also if Ben is the guardian of the island, could a situation arise where Widmore gets to the island, gets himself into a timeloop and course corrects so that he puts himself in place of Ben ?
That won't necessarily be a paradox as the end result could be the same, but it might be interesting to see a different version of events if Widmore was in charge instead of Ben ?
Not sure if it got mentioned in the previous post's comments, but the production of toxic (weapon-ready) gases like fluorine and mustard gas is very energy intensive. It's highly unlikely that anything concentrated enough to use as a weapon would be a byproduct of energy creation. Something's fishy.
kyle
I agree. I don't know much about power or chemical weapons. I think that was just another station (Dharma logo on wall in shape of a wave) where they did experiments. I don't think it has anything do with being a power plant.
Which leads me to ask again. Did Dan and Carlotte really render something inert or did they "reboot" something?
No one said that those kinds of chems would be a by-product of energy per se, I don't think. But the DI or Ben could certainly have that kind of chemical supply shipped in via food drops! :o) As we saw with the canisters.
There are enough reactive chemicals that are "fairly" inert (but still toxic) by themselves, and when combined with other chemicals that provide a heat or oxidizing source, they can blow up, create burning toxic gas and smoke, etc. that can be deadly in various ways.
We really need more info to understand what was really going on in the power plant. As usual with LOST. :-(
Well, cap, you yourself said "by-product" first. I'm just saying that to isolate a weapon-ready gas, you need to put a LOT of energy INTO the system. I'm thinking that there'd be no way of masking the true purpose of the station if it was producing bot the gas(es) and energy. It's not something that comes secondarily from a different process altogether.
We're all kinda saying the same thing, though: there's no way it's just a power plant. The presence of a weaponized chemical agent belies that claim completely.
Speaking for my self when Goodwin said he worked at the power plant I think he lied. I could be wrong. I think the Tempest is nothing more than another Dharma station. I'm not sure what they were doing there but I don't hink it had anything to do with power. But again I could be wrong. And I just don't trust Dan and especially Charlotte.
Yep, I said equipment by-product, for sure. But I didn't mean of military grade weapons gases. Just anything that when mixed, could produce toxic, noxious, killer, emissions of any kind...that could either be contained in canisters or spewed out at random. :-) I worked with toxic chemicals for decades, you'd be surprised what kinds of thick nasty poisonous clouds that you can mix up with a beaker of certain acids and a little heat. Fuming nitric or sulfuric, for two of the easiest examples. :-)
Okay, I get what you're saying, but that's not a by-product. That's an intended product. What other purpose would be served by a chemical process in The Tempest that would also result incidentally in the production of gases toxic enough to be ready-made for weaponry?
The answer, I think we can agree, is that there is no process that would incidentally create those gases. There's something else going on in The Tempest, and everyone in the Others up to at least Juliet, if not everyone outside of Ben, is unaware of the real activity there.
The question is whether Charlotte and Dan, or just Charlotte, are aware of what might really be going on there. Certainly Harper knows (if there is something there to know)
Well, I meant that a by-product comes into play for example when you have an inert gas converted into a plasma for use, and then the output, or exhaust, of that gas (like CF4) becomes toxic after it has been ionized. It requires contained scrubbed exhaust systems or else you spew out toxic gases from your equipment. Liquid chemicals that are combined for various processes, such as in semiconductor manufacturing, also create more toxic by-products during process application. So, there are various manufacturing processes that could combine "safe" chemicals into more harmful by-products that could perhaps be used in a lethal manner if someone was inclined to do that.
Someone on another site (DarkUFO?)said that Dan may have been trying to prevent the combining of chemicals, before they were released together, or something to that effect. I haven't looked at that scene closely yet, but that sounds plausible so far.
question about the constant.
in 96 penny wanted to be away from des.
in 04 des reminds himself to tell penny that he would call her in 8 years.
did penny and des have any interaction between that time? if not why would she wait? or is the reason she was looking for him so hard is because she remembers that meeting in 96?
this probably makes no sense but it was a thought that was stuck in my head.
Good question Bigdog. There are a lot of events between them in that time period that require closer scrutiny, which in turn would I'm sure spawn even more questions! Memphish, is good on keeping track of details like these, by comparing timelines, etc. Until she gets back from vacay, we might be able to learn something on Lostpedia maybe.
thanks cap. i rely so heavily on this site for all of my lost stuff that i actually have forgotten to check in on lostpedia.
hope you have a great vacation memphish.
Heheh, it's always more fun to ask and see if anyone else has figured it out first, I think! :-)

Yes they did have another interaction in 2001 when he was training for her father's around the world race.
She had spent alot of time and money looking for him that time too. Even though according to her father she was engaged to be married.
My opinion she was looking for him in 2004 because she still loved him.
i think the tempest is more of the delivery system then the place they make the gas. I think maybe it controls the air quality of the island, or even the weather. Perhaps we are all wrong and it controls the magnetosphere around the island, maybe they made it inert so that they can come and go without getting unstuck. If the tempest symbol was a wave it could very well be a hydro-elctric station. The barracks and all the hatches have to get their power from somewhere. I think the computer may well be the computer that we saw behind patchy when he first came up to the camera they were viewing from the pearl? I think its interesting that the people that have directly killed an other have been all killed in weird ways. Charlie,Eko, and Analucia are the only ones i can think of off hand that have directly killed an other up until through the looking glass, except Sun? Now hurley, sayid, sawyer, and bernard all have blood on their hands. I have a feeling that since eko and anaL took a shine to the kids they needed to go,, and charlie is aaron and claires protector so he needed to go...
perhaps thats why jin's gun failed so he wouldnt have blood on his hands?
if I'm right that ben wants to reincorporate the others with whoever is left and the 815'ers then they probably would not accept any 815'ers that have killed any of the others. Ben may want to get rid of hurley for seeing jacob, but that would never fly with the others cause they respect people that can see jacob, so he set up events with the vw bus so that hurley will have to leave for running down price? If ben is really at war with widmore and paik, then having sun is a major bargaining chip?
the producers said that desmond changed the past in the episode two weeks ago, so i think penny just wanted to find desmond because he had gone missing...
Does anyone see a link between Lost and the film Forbidden Planet ?
The film is loosley based or inspired by, the Shakespeare play The Tempest.
In the film there is a big monster that is unleashed by the sub concious mind of Dr Morbius. (because of the alien brain training machine, but just ignore the aliens for the moment)
Could the smoke monster be an allegory of this "Id Monster" ? As a matter of fact when I first heard the roar in the first few episodes I did immediately think of the monster in the film. (of course there was no TLC to post this thought to !)
Ben could be in the Dr Morbius role and the smoke monster may be in it's roaring, Eko pummeling mode when Ben is really really angry.
Or instead of angry, emotionally unstable, because Juliet has rejected him.
I can see the Tempest being a hydro-elec plant too. Also perhaps controlling more, like weather or the EM field, as you suggest.
It would also be interesting if Ben has designs on keeping the 815ers as replacements for lost Others, wow.
Sure Zort! Fenris and I have been thinking about that as well. It would make for a very interesting feature, if Ben had that much control. He already has enough! :-O

You are so right about this. Until I read your comment I couldn't put my finger on it. That emotional immaturity coupled with no one wanting to get Ben mad it put me in mind of an episode of The Twilight Zone. The one where the kid has powers and everyone caters to him so he doesn't do awful things to them like take their mouths away or put them into cartoons on tv.
Zort and Ange: I thought so, too. Ben is almost "it's all about me!" I don't even think he's that concerned about the island. It's seems that he's just a pouty little boy who wants his way! He'll do anything to get what he wants, even if it's not for the good of the island.
Great "Twilight Zone", Ange!
ooo ange I seen that episode of twilight zone. Pretty creepy.
Ohhhh, YES, Ange! I bet that Ben would love to be able to "put people into the cornfield"! Heheh!
The original TZ ep with Billy Mumy was SO much scarier than the re-hashed Spielberg version.
love that Twilight Zone!
love the podcast guys, Steve was in rare talkative form this time out. Very funny to hear you and David A. go at it. Keep up the great work!
Penny and Des did have that meeting at the Stadium, like Dennis said. But I don't agree that Desmond changed the past. I think the reason Penny forgave him and then wrote to him in prison, put the letter in his Dicken's book, looked for him at the stadium in 2001, and then looked for him for 3 years, was by the phone in 2004...it all was because he visited her in 1996! His insistence that he had realized his mistake and would call her in 2004 because he loves her touched her. When she got over being hurt and furious at him for leaving her in the first place, she realized she still loved him.
As Daniel said, you can't change the future (Ms Hawking said as much too). All this has happened, and will happen again.
Ange - I thought of that episode of TZ as well. The original is very disturbing.
All we need now is for Jack to be back on a plane and say "There's something on the wing"
And Locke to say "You want to see something really scary ?"
i wasnt stating my opinion, the producers said that desmond was getting unstuck to 1996 for the first time in 4x5. If desmond didnt have his flash of the future in basic training he wouldnt have called penny at that moment and thats why all his letters to penny from prison were to the wrong address in the original past, because he didnt call her from basic training the first time or at the very least never tracked down chuck to get the address. Cusedorph said they may even show a desmond flashback someday to show how stuff would play out after his small 1996 tweaks, knowing what the future holds for him. A big whole in most peoples theory that desmond was just in a loop having always flashed to 1996, besides cusedorph saying thats not true, is that when desmond was ready to leave for his race around the world or when he got out of jail, penny never made mention of their 2004 christmas eve pact, like des maybe you shouldnt go on this trip cause of your vision of 2004, or why am i feverishly trying to call the island before christmas eve or having an artic teram monitor magnetic anomolies if i know that we are gonna talk on christmas eve 2004. If desmond would have come over to charlie in the looking glass five minutes earlier he would have blown the scenario and talked to her on dec 22nd or something...
I agree with you guys that ben is seeming to act childish, but part of me thinks he is doing that on the surface to look like his intentions are shallow, but his actions have dual purposes. For example, he wants to get rid of goodwin for one because he knows too much about the tempest and secondly he doesnt fear ben like he ought to, so ben uses the jealously over julliette thing to justify getting rid of goodwin. I guess its to me like the people that were saying bens plan is fallling apart at the end of last season and the beginning of this one, but as we now oknow and ive been saying for a while bens right where he wants to be...
Have any of you watched the video podcast for this episode over at abc? There's no spoilers - it's just Michael Emerson and Elizabeth Mitchell talking about the episode. They both say exactly what we've all been saying about Ben - that he reacts in a very childish manner to not getting his way. Emerson says that he thinks Ben is a genius, and as such, is lacking in some basic interpersonal skills (much like Daniel, in my opinion).
Here's my take on the 2001 meeting of Des and Penny.
When Des jumped to the 2004 future he finds out he needs a constant. When he jumps back to his own time in 1996 he decides that constant will be Penny. After he goes to her home and asks for her phone number and says he won't call her until 2004,time gets course corrected. When they meet at the stadium it's as if he hasn't time traveled. The past is as it always was. Until 2004 when the point of his time travel occurerd then it becomes relevent. Then Penny is at the point where she's waiting for Desmond's call. Until they get to the point December 24, 2004 the past is as it always has been it's been course corrected. The time travel isn't relative until that date.
I know I kind of repeated myself there but I'm trying to word it so it makes since to all of you.
I meant to say: The time travel isn't relevant not relative until that date.
sayid'sgirl - yes that is making a kind of sense.
It also fits in with my theory that when the "time leap" happens that a branch in time is created so that the original timeline exists and the branch exists.
The point of departure and destination are the same and if the timeline does not get re-integrated at the correct point then the person involved dies.
That allows both the past events to have happened, but won't cause a paradox as the end result is the same.
Here is a rough sketch, in a Doc Brown style, of what I mean.
There's a new OLP (audio version)up on abc.com if anyone wanted to know or didn't already. It reviews "The Other Woman."
Thanks Diggity
I didn't think they were going to one this week.
zort70
I can go with that. The whole course correcting thing is really kind of confusing. But that's what TPTB say is happening.
wow....they even started including spoiler alerts in the podcast. Nice!
That was a much less spoilery OLP than the last one (I just started listening to them, so I don't know how spoilery they usually are).
Glad to see that Harper is confirmed to be a corporeal entity, alive and on the Island. Puts that quibble to bed.
Interesting discussion about canon. I would like it if they did an entire podcast solely about canon. They didn't answer the question all the way.
well the fact that harper is alive but came and went ala astral walt or the smoke monster seems to point to ben's people having some control over those forces on the island. Besides killing goodwin, so ana lucia wouldnt be missed by the others. They snatched up cindy and walt appearing in a simuliar way to parker led to analucia shooting shannon. If you look at it sayid is ben's assassin in the future, So if mike is working with ben then so is walt probably too. Sayid wouldnt be too sad that mike killed anaL, shannon's killer. this is all speculation
Hey Everyone!
Can't wait for Thursday!
Ange and I have been gallivanting around being our usual nerdy Lostie selves.
For those interested you can see what we have been doing HERE at my blog. LOL!
Life has been getting in my way here lately...I have been trying to keep up some, but I hope to be able to jump back in this week with more discussions. :D
jess4ua / Ange - great pictures on the blog.
I'm just listening to the podcast and I have to say woo hoo to the Pinky and The Brain reference.
(Where do you think zort comes from !)
I have a random Pinky are you pondering what I'm pondering generator on my website.
nice work jess+ange, I like all your science tie ins to the show. You two are really committed to the show:)...
It's quite quiet today.
I assume we are all waiting in anticipation for the last episode before the mini break.
This isn't the last before the break. They're going 8/5, not 7/6.
8/5 almost looks like 815 :-)
Smokey,Smokey,wherefore art thou Smokey?
After Jules gave him a beatdown with the sonic fence last season,he ran off to mope somewhere.
I feel like I ran into the Sonic Fence myself lately, since I got this cold. However,I will not let it cool my Lost fever tomorrow.
Jess & Ange congratz for keeping it real.
Maven & Elizabeth hi,
My computer belongs to the ole PC club.Via Domos was too powerful for it;so I will be passing it on to the next generation of Lost fans.(my Daughter & Son-in Law who was thinking of buying it.)I hope your Son,"the hero" had a great Birthday.
Zort70;
Nice web site.Things will start picking up tomorrow for sure.
TV guide has some new spoilers this week.Dark UFO posted them, but I didn't go there.
takes - I hear ya! This cold is a nasty bugger. Feel better!
In the OLP this week, they mention Smokey, and say that from here on out, whenever they use him, they want it to be in a way that advances that part of the story. I guess that's why we're seeing him less.
The TV guide spoilers are in Michael Ausiello's column - one is the first question, and the other is the last question. The first one isn't bad - it's some casting (or "re-casting") news that I think we'll all be pretty frakking happy about. But be warned: if you are a spoiler-phobe at all, AVOID THE LAST QUESTION AT ALL COSTS.
Hi, Takes A Village! Hope you'll feel better soon.
Thanks, ML for the TV Guide warning. Resist...resist...resist! LOL
It has been quite here (and pretty much every other site) this week. Guess that's a comment on the lack of discussion points in "The Other Woman". Hope the next two episodes will generate enough talk to last through the mini-break!
Kyle aka TheBookPolice said...

I think you can always avoid the spoilers pretty easily on the OLP. The part of the podcast the talks about future epi's is caled "pre-hash" and Darlton always announce that they are pre-hashing the next epi. (usually after the questions section) So when you hear it bail.
Once in a great while they will get a little spoily in the questions section, but very, very rarely. You could always avoid that section also to be safe, but I think you would be good to listen 99.9% of the time.
On a side note, I have always liked the OLP and have made it part of my weekly LOST routine since it started a few years back. You get some solid answers to questions like the Harper thing.
Any, what's got two thumbs and is stoked for LOST tomorrow? Answer = This guy!
Volcanoes give off toxic gases. They also generate a lot of heat.
So suppose the power plant has a turbine generator being powered by the dormant volcano.
In addition, maybe the toxic gases from the volcano are being trapped for nefarious purposes.
Didn't they decide that a lot of the people who died at Pompeii were actually killed by the toxic gases?
Lost Fantasy League is up: I broke the 1200's! 1155! LOL
Lost 2010: I like your theory re the volcano. It would help explain why the teacher in young Ben's class was discussing island volcanoes! I do believe the people of Pompeii were buried alive by volcanic ash, but volcanic gas does account for many deaths throughout history. I remember recently, at our local ski area (Mammoth in the Sierra Nevada volcanic range), some ski patrol members died from getting too close to a vent. So maybe these toxic gases were being harnessed through the Tempest.
lost2010, good thoughts about the volcano! That could very well be the tie-in.
Well I got the lowest score that I've gotten so far in the Fantasy League 1687.
last week my LFL team was ranked 473, this week I'm 249th! I'm sure this won't last, but let's hear it for my Ladies of Lost (all gal team)!
If anyone is interested in readin Valis, thinbluemime has the entire book on his blog, you can read it online (very tiny type!)
Woo Hoo Go Ladies of Lost!
Thanks for the link amused.

The new Doc Jensen is up. I'm really torn on what to do with this article for SpoilerFixed. There might not be much left... :)
I'll post the link here when I figure it out....
diggitydirge: what's got two thumbs and is stoked for LOST tomorrow? Answer = This guy!
That line just can't be used enough. ; )
maven, GREAT call on the volcano.
dennis, it's that bad? Yikes. Of course, I went to EW.com to check out the Top Chef TVWatch, and there's a face staring at me on Page One that I'm not too surprised to see, but a little bemused that Doc went so abrupt with his "guess." (doesn't he get to see these episodes before we do?)
The article is mostly about the face you saw. There aren't really any other spoilers aside from that...
Here is the SpoilerFixed version of the new Doc Jensen.
I'm in London for a couple of days with work and decided to see a West End show tonight.
We chose Spamalot, the Monty Python musical and guess who's just taken a starring role...
... Yes - Charles Widmore himself, Alan Dale !!!
Thank-you Dennis! The spoiler fix is great and just enough to tide me over until tomorrow when I can read the spoily one.
Hi All, and thanks for the links everyone.
Yes, the atmosphere that volcanos give off is mostly hot ash, specifically "pyroclastic flow" which contains super hot air, ash, small rocks, etc. More of a dry, inhalable flow, than the lava itself. Just like in building fires, often what first kills the people inside is the super hot air and smoke inhalation.
I've always been leaing toward the easiest source for the island's power to be the thermal energy that is natural there. I've never really studied that, but if TPTB and the DI say it could be done, I'd believe it for the show. :o)
That's interesting Zort! I would love to see that show. Heheh, every time I see Alan Dale's name on LOST I think of Alan-a-Dale of the Robin Hood legend. I wonder if that's his real or stage name? :-D
According to Wikipedia, Alan Hugh Dale is his birth name.
I agree geothermal makes the most sense. All this volcano stuff is very interesting. A google search of "magnetic volcanoes" shows that "undersea volcanoes are made up of highly magnetic basaltic rock". hmmmm
Happy LOST Day LoCo's. Haven 't been able to comment much lately, but have been lurking.
Stupid LFL...I moved up, but my team is hopeless!! LOL
Trying to decide whether or not to read Doc's article. I got a little spoiled on tonite's episode long ago, before the writer's strike...one of those you hear something in one place and someone says something in another place and then you put 2 and 2 together. Oh well. At least I don't know the specifics. So I can't decide about Doc Jensen, maybe I'll try the spoiler fixed version first.
Just read the first few paragraphs of Valis on TBM's blog. Not a cheery book. ;)
Zort- have fun! I would like to see Spamalot- but over here Clay Aiken is in it now, and I just don't know if I can handle that. :)
Have a great day everyone. See you tonite!
scoutpost, I had no idea who Clay Aiken is, but I have just looked him up and I'm not surpised you are not keen.
Although having said that I am a big Queen (rock band) fan and some of the XFactor / Pop Idol rejects from the UK have turned up in We Will Rock You (the Queen musical) and have been very good. Which is ironic as the point of the musical is that manufactured pop bands and singers are very bad.
Hey, guys -
I just posted an interview with Elizabeth Mitchell from TVguide.com over at Spoiler Fixed
melissa, did you edit anything out of that? Seems pretty intact.
Hey, thanks Dennis! Maybe Alan Dale's parents just had a soft spot for Robin Hood. :o) That's at least better than a kid in my school, named Alan Alan. WTH?
Kyle - There were only about three sentences that I took out, and those were extremely mild spoilers. Basically, just general "we'll see more ___" this season kind of stuff.
Anxiously awaiting tonights show. The preview looks pretty interesting. Can't wait to find out who the last two O6 are.
Happy Lost Day!
Thanks Dennis and ML for the Spoilerfix stuff! You make our lives so much more easier!
Kyle: Lost 2010 really brought up the possibility of the volcano and gases...I just added some info to it!
I was just thinking about Lost and who the last O6 could be, and I think I know. I don't know how I could have missed it.
I'm kind of bummed now I wanted to be surprised. :)
Take the credit and run, maven! ; )
Well-done, lost2010.
Yeah, the volcanic thermal energy idea has been around the blogs, heheh. ;-)
"I'm thinking that maybe the Tempest uses thermal energy from volcanic sources, and transfers it to steam that powers the coils, turbines, or generators for the island's power."
And I based the idea off something Capcom said so I can't really take credit either. But thanks anyway.
So, the O6 aren't: Jack, Hurley, Kate, Desmond, Sayid, and Aaron???
Which one of them doesn't count?
I always forget where things are considered spoilers and where they aren't. Episode title is or is not a spoiler here?
Hey, all I know is that this was the first time I heard the Tempest connected to poisonous volcanic gas. I know the thermal energy thing has been around for a while; I just hadn't made the toxicity connection yet. Not trying to short-change anyone.
In tonight's case, it just might be, Lost2010! :-D
Because based on the episode title, I'm getting a hint of who the last O6 might be. Of course it could be throwing me off completely.
kyle - I like the idea of toxic volcano gas no matter who originally had it. Sort of like the Dharma group had a waste not want not philosophy.
capcom - So should I delete my last comment in the interest of playing by the rules? I fear I'm walking the line with spoilerdom on that one. :)
For those who are not reading DocJ's article tonight, be sure to visit it after the ep, just to see the creepy cap of Ben on page 2! Yow!
Some of his theories are way out there, not that they could not be possible, but that they don't seem possible on this particular show. The reason being, the theories are too compicated for a show with such a dearth of time given for explanitory or expositionary commentary. TPTB would have to really take some moments to do some heavy explaining, which is not really the way this show is, as we have always opined here. :-)
this is a post from on here in july i think i was pretty on the money with stuff, i was struck how my wording about exploiting the island was almost word for word what ben said last week about widmore

mikhail didnt unjam the signal you are right lostit, but he did ensure that it can not be rejammed in the future by flooding the computer room. Mikhail was increasingly weary of bens leadership towards the end of the season. He probably resented ben letting them get close enough to kill klugh and sonic fence him, he was displeased that ben was taking locke to jacob and was even more pissed that ben did tell him the truth about the looking glass or give him the code. So he struck a final blow for the off island interests that support mittleos/naomi's people. I think it more complicated than ben against richard. I think all differnt factions of the others are jockying for their own pet projects. Ben is all about the fertility so he can shut off the island from the outside world alltogether. Richard is more concerned with the island mythology and some other project with jacob and locke. Mikhail is interested in helping his off island backers exploit the island. I think its no coincidence that ben set the stage for the ouster of many of his top lt.s and left richard alive. Thats because richard isnt a mittleos goon he was an island native..

I guess that we can let Dennis decide on that Lost2010. If it's not in The Rules yet, it's OK to post it. Later the rules might be changed, but I'd say you're OK now, right?
Yeah, let's here it for the DI recycling their toxic waste! That's a great resourceful idea! :-D
for all of you that say mikhail didnt try to unjam the signal, why did naomi say to mikhail in another language that she was not alone, but mikhail told desmond and the boys that she said thanks for saving her. If naomis backers arent working with mikhsil, how would she know to speak to him in another language and why would he hide that she wasnt alone, that is part of why i think mikhail waited until charlie unjammed the signal to grenade that part of the looking glass, because he wanted the freighter to be able to zero in on anomis phone...
Well, you have a point there, 2costa.
thanx cap, i figure if mikhail was trying to conceil the island he would have destroyed the sat phone right after he saw it, if he tried to steal it it was so he could touch base with the frieghter...
Seemed to me like she was just trying out every language she knew until she got a response, but then I totally missed the whole point of the wacky paste way back when and thought Shannon was a pod person. So it's best to take everything I type with an enormous grain of salt.
Me too Lost2010, I thought that about her changing dialects also. But then I always get fuzzy with things that have to do with Patchy. He says something with such sincerity, and then gets a devious look in his eye, and I don't know what to think about him. But, 2costa's last sentence could have some merit.
well naomi spoke perfect english so there had to be more than that, but they certainly made it seem like thats what she was doing at the time lostit. They made it seem like she was delerious, but it was more so that mikhail would get a heads up imho. I mean mikhail had access to grenades he could have let one of right on the spot taken out charlie and desmond and the sat phone, it always struck me as strange that mikhail wandered out of the forrest to save naomis life, becuase had she died they prolly never could have contacted the ship...
Well, I'm still holding out for someone to be a clone. So if you'll throw in that Mikhail is being cloned, I'm in. Clone #2 was working for the Freighties.

Anxiously awaiting tonights show. The preview looks pretty interesting. Can't wait to find out who the last two O6 are.
You really don't know? I haven't seen any spoilers and I'm pretty sure that I can guess it 100%. I'm sure many of you can also.
As in, two Patchy-15s???????? :o)
i was hoping that too lostit, but he did have the bloody ears form the sonic fence, so prolly not a clone. My thing is if I just lived through a sonic fence episode, humanitarian missions are not the first thing on my mind, or concieling some outsiders message about not being alone. Lost is never as it seems I now am back on thinking ben is evil again now that everyone else is coming around to thinking hes good again. My thought on that is that obviously, by abbadon not knowing what happened on the island when he visited hurleyand jack and hurleys remorse for leaving. That ben is going to rally the troops and get rid of the frieghter and then have sayid kill anyone that knows about it, so if bens good whats the problem. In my mind hurley and astral charlie and jack want to go back cause they know ben is a meglomaniac, and right now he seems like the lesser of two evils but once you take the greater evil away(widmore/freighter), the lesser of two evils is just plain evil...
just the name of the episode seems to show at least one if not two of the last oceanic 6...remember fertility problem, i guess jullliette could solve it but dont think so
Well, I sort of thought that Patchy was the twins we were supposed to watch for in the boat that took Walt. So two patchies yes - one Name Mikhail and one named say Irving - but they both go by Mikhail when necessary.
just caught upon comments. My two cents is Desmond isn't one of the
O6, and Aaron doesn't count.
no way in the world desmond is an oceanic 6. He doesnt have a plane under water to cover up and wasnt supposed to be on that plane. Im sure that why the fanfour have the manifest memorized so that they dont bring any ethan roms back to the boat..
I just watched some super-spoilery previews over at Sawyer840, and boy is tonight gonna be juicy!
side note totally off topic. On a concall with Australia right now. This lady has an amazing Aussie accent. Reminds me of Claire.
Back from Spamalot and it was excellent, very Brtitish, very Monty Python.
Alan Dale wasn't meant to sing, but that just adds to his appeal in the show. He was excellent and seemed to be a natural on the stage. I've taken a picture of hime in the publicity poster which I'll post soon.
I'll talk to you all again on Sunday after the episode in the UK.
I think it's down to Sun, Jin, and Locke.
If it turns out Sawyer or Claire made it, I'll eat my hat.
hime = him :-)
god I hope Locke gets killed. He is driving me nuts lately.
I can't see it being Locke unless someone drags him kicking and screaming off the island, or Ben does his normal head job on him.
anyone still think there is a possibility that Michael isn't the freighter spy? I'm still betting it's him.
But if you wanted to truly shock us, Locke's the man.
I mean nobody but nobody thinks it's Locke anymore. So boom!
You show Locke off the island and all of a sudden you have to factor that into your speculations.
It'd be a gamechanger.
A regular snake in the mailbox! :-D
lost2010 - the old double bluff !
Yes could well be so.
Oh, Capcom: I'm sure you're just bursting at the seams! :)
I don't think Desmond is an O6...he's not on the manifest. And 06 member has to have been on 815. Wonder why Frank didn't question who Desmond was. He pointed out Juliet wasn't on the manifest and must be a native. Leads me to think that the crew knew about Desmond and Penny.
I'm pretty sure that we're going to find out that Sun is a member of the O6 club. And I imagine that Jin would go with her. Widmore might have some connections with Paik, so they would want Sun and Jin to be part of the group.
I'm not counting Aaron...even though he was in utero on the 815, I'm going with adults!
because desmond is the swan guy that they know is there,if anybody is true dharma anymore its desmond by defualt, not to mention that they work for widmore. Widmore must have been puppetmastering for a while, thats why naomi had the penny desmond picture. Anyone that has knowledge of the island and its hatches,liKe Danlotte knew about the tempest, then desmond is one of the only ones youd expect to find there. As i said last week i think Bens folder on widmore was more of a show for locke than anything. I have to think that ben might have had some dealings with widmore and double crossed him, or given him some b.s. about not knowing how to guide him to the island, or as someone has mentioned, maybe widmore has a spy on the island like ben has one on the boat, maybe mikhail was a double agent and when ben had suspicions he left mikhail out of the loop.
go ahead and sensor me Dennis. I think the last members of the O6 will be Sun & Jin. So, Kate & Jack, Hurley, Sayid, and the two afore mentioned peoples.
Well it should be getting close to time in the east and central part of the country isn't it? It's only 5:30 here. Look forward to tonites discussion.
Of course, there is that episode title. . . .
diggity
Sorry you think I'm so dense.
But I did say in my post after that one the I thought I knew who it was and I was bummed about it.
I didn't even know who the story was going to be about tonight until I listened to the OLP and didn't stop it in time. And even then I didn't put it together until I seen a commercial today and then it became pretty obvious.
On another note I was right about it being Annie and not Ben's mom that Juliet reminded him of.
did the guy in the dyson commercial just mention faraday ?!!!?!
Darn it, I have really tried to avoid spoilers, but when you read and listen a lot, it's not hard to start putting a lot of "benign" statements/previews together to spoil yourself. And I think I've just become aware of a major spoiler...I'm so bummed!!!! :( Oh well, I'm still excited about tonights episode. It's always good spoiled or not.
I accidentally stumbled on a spoiler before the season even began about who the O6 were - I'm just relieved that everyone will know after tonight. I'm dying to talk about it!
experimentalfilm- YES!! I saw that commercial not long after Faraday's name was revealed in find815! Too weird.
Of course it may not be as obvious as I think it is Lost after all.
By the way when Juliet says they've got everyone on the list. This must be before their trek across the island because Goodwin is still alive. So who took Cindy and why if she wasn't on the list? I've never thought Cindy was taken that she was one of them all along.
I don't think that Diggity meant that in a mean way, Sayidsgirl. :-)
capcom
Oh know I didn't think he did either.
Sorry diggity if it came across that way.

Sorry you think I'm so dense.
sorry if that came off mean. I don't think you are dense at all. They have given so much away about this epi and I haven't even read spoilers like most of the group. I just figured with the name and the preview it was getting ridiculously obvious.
But like you said, it's LOST so there could be some shocking twist.
ok...now a big group hug!
diggity
I don't know what the name is.
I just know who the story is going to center around. And that's only because I was to slow on stopping the OLP.
{{{{{hhhuuuggg}}}}!!!!!!
dang...you are spoiler free. Doesn't even know the name. Just so you know, the epi is name "&*%$#@^! &%$@#! #$^&*!# %$!@#$."
Just kidding ;)
LOL
alright...time to get dinner and let you east coasters go at it. Try not to run up too many comments before us west coasters can get on.
I swear I am the only person from the Mountain time zone in this forum/blog. At least I can look forward to Maven getting on later.
Have fun!
