First Post!
:)
BTW, I STILL haven't caught up on all the posts yet... but I'm almost done and I'll post my mega-response soon!
However, I'm about halfway through the podcast, and they mention "the last four" missing pieces videos, but there is actually one more left that they didn't review - the "So It Begins" episode.
2Costa, I'm not saying I agree with the time thing I posted earlier. It's just an interesting idea. I keep waiting for time to clear up a little bit on the show. Faster, slower, the same -- sometimes it seems to be all.
As for the eye, listen to Jay and Jack and Jorge's explanation of filming that scene. My eye theory is that they are going to use various eyes to represent Jacob without having to cast a Jacob at this point. Jorge never says who is the eye, but he does rule some people out. I think this whole Jacob's eye thing is a link back to the eye shots that have been a hallmark of the series.
One things that bothers me about this episode is Ben. When Ben asks Jack permission to go with Locke, one would think that Locke would say forget about it! Ben just shot Locke and left him for dead in a pit of Dharma skeletons. And why would Jack just let him go? He told Kate that he wanted Ben to watch them get rescued and then he'd kill him. Now he just lets him go with Locke?
Also, I can't believe that everyone just stood around while Jack pulled the trigger on Locke. Of course, Locke knew the gun wasn't loaded, but everyone else didn't. It was just loaded when Locke threatened Jack not to make that call. Maybe everyone is a little bit crazy now on the island!
Maven, As for Ben who is the new comic relief in the show I don't understand why Jack would let him go with Locke since he wants to rub it in Ben's face that the rest of them are leaving and he trusts Ben with no one but himself. As for why Locke would take him, first he knows Ben still knows more about the Island than he does, and he knows that Ben is on his side in this matter. Locke, the last kid picked on the playground, still wants someone to take his side, even if it's the next to the last kid picked. Rousseau also knows that Ben wants Alex safe, and if he has means to accomplish that, she might tolerate him a little longer.
As for Jack shooting Locke. I bet everyone except possibly Kate to whom Jack had said he'd kill Locke if he saw him were shocked, but then, what were they going to do about it. Locke did not die after all. Locke has been trying to prevent them from leaving. Jack has the phone. If my #1 goal is to get off this Island, I'm going to throw in my lot with Jack despite or maybe even because he's willing to kill to accomplish that end.
As for crazy, there was a recap on DarkUFO late last night, early this morning who talked about insane being failing to act on reason. He/She thought Locke and Jack were both insane at this point because both are acting on thinly based beliefs that they shouldn't leave the Island or that Naomi's people will take them off the Island. Ironically he points out that Hurley is the sane one by using Charlie's information to make his decision not to trust the boat people.
Ange,
Wonderful job on the podcast.
Thanks Steve & David.
Wadda ya mean no more my name is Cheech?
Memphish: Thanks for your thoughts. I'm sure Ben is still playing the manipulation game between Locke and Jack. Maybe Jack just let him go with Locke because he thinks they're both crazy not to want to get off the island even with Charlie's warning. And Hurley, who totally trusts Charlie since he sacrificed himself for the whole group, believes his warning. Jack and the people who side with him believe that any group of people on that freighter (even if it's not Penny's boat) would want to help a group of plane crash survivors get home. Isn't that the sane way one would think that the people on the freighter would react? Maybe that rationale overrides Charlie's warning.
I agree Maven. So what if it's "Not Penny's Boat?" According to Naomi, she wasn't looking for 815 anyway, but for Desmond. Why wouldn't you think her group would let the rest of them tag along?
I still think the Boat People are connected with Mrs. Hawking. Is it Thursday yet?
Good points maven and memphish. It's hard to put yourself in the survivor's shoes and imagine how you would react, or at least how they should react- given we know so much more. But I think you guys have raised some good questions regarding motivations and behaviors.
As far as Naomi and the boat people- I think it is just a simple matter of Naomi lying to them. I believe (although I haven't researched) that Naomi said that they were hired by Penny, or that since she had a picture of Penny they assumed that Penny was in on the search for Desmond in some way. When Penny said it was not her boat and had no idea what Charlie was talking about, that she didn't know anyone named Naomi, I think Hurley, Desmond, etc. lost all trust they had in her because why would someone lie about that? I think they deducted from her lying that she and the freighty's were up to no good.
I wonder what I would've done. I think I may have fallen in the Locke camp.
I'm sure there was probably a more concise and clearer way to say what I just said, but I'm not good at concise. ;)
Hi Everybody!!
I believe the freighties are sent by Widmore ala Dharma. They want the "hostiles" OFF their island, IMO.
Knowing what the Losties know about Ben and his group, and about Dharma and what they were doing, I think I would have fallen in with Locke, too. Even though Hanso and the DeGroots (whatever happened to them anyway?) may have started the Dharma Initiative with altruistic motives (saving the world and all that), it ended up being an intrusion into the natural order of things on the island. I mean, how many times throughout history have human beings just barged into unknown territories and just taken over without regard to the initial natural inhabitants? Geez, you think they'd learn.
I loved the podcast! Ange, you were great...
(*back to lurking and catching up on these wonderfully prolific posts!*)

Technically, if I was on the island, I think I might have tried to find the Others and make friends with them by now - Cindy is seeming less and less delusional. I mean you can either follow crazy Locke who tried to kill Naomi or crazy Jack who tried to kill Locke.
So, my plan would be to make friends with the others and sneak out at night to steal their boat. Yeah, I'd probably get killed but following either Locke or Jack seems a bit counterintuitive by now too.
I just want to know if Walt, Zach and Emma are part of the Oceanic 6. I'm guessing the writers have already forgotten them, but shouldn't they make an effort to get the children out of there first?
lost2010-good point!!
I would definitely think that they would want to rescue the kids first...

ellen said...I believe the freighties are sent by Widmore ala Dharma.
I would like to piggyback on that and say that I think it's plausible that Naomi is Penny Wodmore's 1/2 sister. They could have different mothers but the same daddy Widmore.
Now here is where I get really stretchy...Naomi is like a trained OP of some kind, she's also a little peeved at daddy Widmore because she has daddy issues and maybe she is like the secret that he doesn't want to take responsibility for.
She and Penny cook up a scheme to find Desmond, while as a bonus Naomi gets to get daddy Widmore good by screwing up what he's got going on on the island. Why didn't Penny know who Naomi was...well maybe she has had to infiltrate the freghties (daddy Widmore's people)to get her plan in motion and had to use an assumed name (Penny might not be in on all the details).
This "George" or whoever she told, "Tell my sister I love her," to is in on the whole deal but no one else.
I KNOW it is a stretch but that sister line has been bugging me and I can't help but think we are supposed to know who her sister is. Also thanks for the kind words :D.
On Dark Ufo's site,I read that some filming has resumed in Hawaii.
This seems like good news to me.
Memphish- I think I could jump on the boat of Christian having been to the island as well. It would fit right in with Aaron being "called" to the island.
Yes Ange, that's a good theory! I know that "sister" bit is in there for a reason, or so it seems. Wouldn't it be a real hoot if Naomi and Penny are sisters?!!
Also, let me weigh-in on the issue of the "he" Kate said she had to get back to referred to in the finale of S3- I really believe that it could be Nathan Fillion...I think she really loved him, I mean, she married the guy after all. I think he was smitten enough to forgive her too. It would make sense it seems.
JMHO

Ange!!! I was thinking today that Naomi could have been talking about Penny when she said that! But I was too chicken to say it here. :-) Maybe Penny was faking not knowing who Naomi was, because she didn't know that she was talking to a "friendly" (Charlie).
Going to play devil's advocate (or is that Abaddon's advocate?) here. If Penny and Naomi are related, why doesn't Desmond know her, he says he's never seen her before, or why wouldn't Naomi reveal the relationship to Desmond if Penny was moving heaven and earth to find him? It's an interesting idea, but I don't think it jives with Naomi's interactions with Desmond.
I can think of plenty of reasons for Des to not see/know Naomi.
I don't really think that it jives with anything yet either. It's just fun to think about.
As for why people don't say the obviously logical things to each other, when do they ever on this show?!! :-D
BTW, isn't Abaddon supposed to be the keeper of the prison gate that locks the Devil in? And not actually the Devil? I could be misunderstanding that, of course.
Hooray Capcom, I have been thinking that for days and then decided to throw caution to the wind LOL.
Memphish: I agree there are loads of reasons why that can't be, but there are lots of feasible ones too. Penny and Des were together for just two years, maybe sis didn't show up until after Desmond disappeared. It could be a long lost sister deal. Also, I find it interesting/neat that they thought Naomi was Penny when she first parachuted in.
But yes, there are gaping holes...like the one in Jacob's window, just minus the eye. :D
I just rewatched the S4 premier. A couple of things stood out to me. I have to give a little disclaimer first LOL......I have kept up with all of the comments. However, I have 2 children and give no credit to my memory whatsoever. (hehehe blame it on the kids!)Point being, if this has been discussed, then I apologize and agree with whoever said it.
1. When Hurley has the FF to the mental institution where he sees "dead" Charlie, Charlie says to him...."You are running away from "Him", that's the real reason you ran away from me in the store. You knew I was going to tell you..." I think that is why Hurley wanted to be in the Mental Institution. He is trying to escape from "Him". Charlie continues with "They need you".
I think that could mean diff things. First, maybe that "Him" has the remaining survivors, "they", and Hurley doesn't want to face "Him". Second, maybe "Him" knows the remaining survivors, as I side thought I guess "they" could mean the others, are in danger from the freighties that came to the island and Hurley doesn't want to face that responsibility, or can't because of the "cover up".
2. Ellen- At this point, I agree that the "He" that Kate refers to in the FF is not Sawyer. After rewatching the new epi., I think Sawyer would have to do something drastic to make it back with Kate. He already told her that he hopes she is not pregnant. Then, knowing that she may be, he left her and his possible child when he went with Locke. I think that would be a very hard thing to forgive.
It is driving me crazy not knowing what in the world the O6 could be threatened with to make Jack worry so much about Hurley squealing.
OH! I just had another thought. Both Charlie and Matthew Abaddon came to Hurley talking about "they". "They need you!". "Are They still alive?"
Maybe they are both the same apparition, or whatever, trying to play on Hurley's guilt and get him to return to the Island.
Takes a Village and everyone else: I think DocArtz confirmed that the filming they're doing are pick-up shots from already filmed episodes. They are not filming new episodes...yet!
Ange: Love your thinking. That sister line from Naomi had to be more than just a throwaway. Everything has a meaning on Lost! But I just can't buy the Naomi/Penny tie-in. I'd go with Mrs. Klugh! She could have come on this "mission" because she knew she'd get to see her sister. They wouldn't know that Patchy shot her. (Maybe she can pull a bullet out of herself, the way Naomi pulls knives out of herself! LOL)
Jess: Hurley definitely sees Santa Rosa as a sanctuary, somewhere he would feel safe. When Abaddon visited, he kinda went bananas since he was not safe anymore. The use of "they" several times in the episode really was stressing the implication that "they" could be the rest of the 815 survivors. "Charlie" mentions them twice, Abaddon mentions them. Whatever happened on that island, Hurley is trying not to think about...counting to 5 all the time. Now the use of the "it" in the scene with Jack is pretty intriguing. "It" could be the island or whatever Jacob turns out to be. It was strange that he didn't use the word "he"..."it" would connote an object or thing -- like the island.
Update on the filming seen in Hawaii:
According to DocArtz "Unfortunately, the breaking news that Lost was seen back in production has now been confirmed to be the production of a Lifetime Movie: Special Delivery."
Just checking in and STILL waiting for the Dell people to come fix my computer.. My neck is going to be so whacked out not being able to look straight at my monitor. I also can't get any of the podcasts:(
Ellen, I agree with you about who the "freighties" are.
As for Ben being the comic relief character.. he really was kind of funny in this episode (and had some of the greatest lines). I suppose he's just enjoying seeing all the bumbling going on now that he's pretty sure he'll be dead soon anyway. Maybe he's relieved to not have the burden of manipulating everything anymore.
I am loving the idea of Christian having been on the Island before! This could bring new meaning to the conversation he had with Claire about her comatose mother (something about there being other options.. will have to look that one up).
Locke and Jack certainly look like they've each gone crazy and would appear that way to any of the other losties. I don't think I would have bothered Jack as he was trying to kill Locke... who'd want to get in the way of a crazy person with a gun?
I haven't watched the episode again yet and I may have missed this from a previous post, but does anyone have a listing of those who went with Locke and those who went with Jack?
On the main page of the new look blog, the email address is :
thelostexperienceclues@gmail.com
Is that the right one for the current blog ?
One other thing I noticed when rewatching the episode last night, Sawyer used proper names for most people but not for Desmond when he came back to the beach.
He called him Scotty.
Morning Everyone...
Being a newbie to this blog (also to blogging in general), Having it's own podcast is awesome and enjoyed listening to it.
How often do podcasts come out?
Have a good one,

He actually referred Hurley as "ESSA"
Spanish for friend (I believe)
zort, this blog started during The Lost Experience ARG and was originally called The Lost Experience Clues, hence the email address.
fysb : Yes, I remember, it just stood out at me for some reason. I've been looking at the blog since it started and today it just triggered something in my mind that said it was wrong.
OK, sorry for the hugemongous post...I'll try not to get so far behind next time :)
IMO, the most logical people to be the Oceanic Six are:
• Jack, Kate, Hurley obviously
• Claire and Aaron, because Desmond foretold it.
• Sun, because Sun is pregnant
• Jin, if Aaron isn't counted as a full person.
Micheal and Walt would NOT be part of the oceanic six, because they escaped on their own.
Also, the most logical person to be in the coffin is Michael. He, and his teenage son, escaped on their own, so they would had needed fake identities when they made it back. I'm thinking that he must have contacted the Oceanic 6 for Jack to have known about the funeral.
Melissa_Lossa said... How mad would Locke AND Ben be if it turned out that Hurley had the strongest connection with the island? :)
I'm thinking Hurley might be very important. He was able to start the Dharma Bus, so in must be in tune with the island somewhat.
Melissa_Lossa said... The weirdest thing about Christian, is why would Hurley see him? Why manifest a vision as someone that Hurley has never met?
Maybe he has met him before. Sawyer did.
memphish said... Wreckage of Flight 815 has been found. Time line issues abound.
2costa said... if anything the second plane relates to the orchid video and the two 15 rabbits...
It's consistent with what Naomi said. I think the second plane is a cover-up, planted by the others, so people will stop looking for the island.
DiggityDirge said... how did the other mental patient see Charlie if he's dead. Was the dude that looney?
Maybe the other mental patient is also a figment of Hurley's imagination.
memphish said... Where do you think the "lawyer" would have moved Hurley? A mental hospital in Iceland maybe?
I though the VIK institute burned down? ;)
Kyle aka TheBookPolice said... (well, with your back, Ed, you shouldn't be throwing anyone)
Bad knee?
2costa said... maybe but i think its because time moves slower on the island s
Time doesn't move slower on the island. The proof was last season when the plane crashed, Mikhail was watching LIVE news feeds of the plane crash.
memphish said... Abaddon was not part of the rescue because Hurley didn't recognize him. So chief in my #1 questions for him is "who does he work for?" I'm pretty sure it's not Oceanic. He seems evil enough to work with Mittlework though.
I'm starting to think that the freighter is Dharma, and they are pissed at Ben for killing all of their people.
Melissa_Lossa said... In Desmond's vision... [he] never mentions Charlie having a chat with Penny before he dies ... I think that Desmond's vision has changed.
Desmond also didn't mention that there were two chicks in the station. Desmond only get flashes, not the whole story.
maven said... It's been determined that the guy filming Hurley was Randy...his old boss from Mr. Cluck's.
Forget about randy, what is the heck is the Killer Kitty??!?!??!?!
memphish said... So does this mean Randy doesn't work at the box company anymore? Did it perhaps burn? (Find815 nod.)
Poor Hurley! First his mom's house burns down, then his sneaker factory, now the box company.
Melissa_Lossa said... One thing I'm still curious about: In FBYE, Penny and Des receive one copy of the photo from the photographer.
I though this was addressed in a podcast - that they both got a copy of the photo, and we just didn't see it...?
2costa said... maven i will work on my punctuation,

Twinkle said... I'm assuming DVD extras and commentaries on past episodes and plot lines would fall under the same rules at The Official Lost Podcast?
The point of the spoiler rules to not talk about things that will happen in future episodes. So, DVD extras and commentaries are fine, as long as they are not referenceing what will happen in Season 4.
Also, since The Lost Experience stuff is not considered "spoilers", then it is safe to say that the Lost: Missing Pieces videos, and Find815.com stuff is also OK to talk about too.
Hey Dennis
I have the same O6 group. For the same reason. I'm thinking they won't count Aaron as a passanger. So Jin would get off with Sun.
Dennis said... I'm thinking Hurley might be very important. He was able to start the Dharma Bus, so in must be in tune with the island somewhat.
I think that all of the losties could be in tune with the island to some extent, but they don't know they can be and they certainly don't know how to control it.
I think the fact that Jacobs shack was appearing and disappearing could be Hurley starting to become more in tune.
Of course it could be that the island recognises those people that will help it and makes them more a part of itself. This is assuming that the island (or the people controlling it) has (have) some sort of inteligence.
I'm not strong on Jin, since splitting him and Sun up would add to the drama, but I don't know who else to put.
Maybe Sayid, since he wants to find Nadia, but it's hard to imagine him taking someone else's spot, since he was so willing to sacrifice himself so others could be rescued.
I think the biggest shocker would be John Locke.
Jess4ua you raise some good points :) i wonder what 'Him' meant it would seem in th FF's they all seem to be saying something about 'Him' and it sounds very Ben-like "he wont like this" referring to Jacob, i think maybe in the end we will see jacob (pointing out the obvious) becoming a key part of the story and mould the characters alot more.. or maybe that is what he will try to do. the FF's might be Jacob's intended timeline, how he wants them to turn out, like ben, scared of Jacob. Then again it could also be plausible that Hurley was referring to Locke as "he" because Hurley must have to do something to come away from Locke's group after being so strongly supoortive, maybe Locke become jacob, maybe locke is jacob, or maybe locke gets totally transfixed by the island and much more like Ben
Dennis your post made me think. I know it s abit weird but i was thinking about how the plane was found in the ocean. That is a pretty serious thing to have to cover up to make a wholllle new plane exactly the same and dump it in the ocean with nobody knowing....the first thought that came into my head was parallel dimensions or wormholes.. i dunno but i never once thought before of the immense scale covering up a plane crash would be
i had a revalation last night. It always bothered me how at the end of last season Ben let himself get captured so easily by jack. He has a whole arsenil at his disposal so Ben must have wanted to be the 815'ers prisoner but why??? Well i think i know. If my theory is correct about the freightys being there to respond to locke pressing 77 on the computer, when asked if hostiles have compromised the island, then it makes total sense that ben would want to be the prisoner. Ben is original Dharma and can prove it with dna or records or whatever albeit he was a janitor.. I think the way ben has been putting his other high ranking others in danger the last three seasons, who are true hostiles, ben has been setting the stage for the 815'ers to be percived as the hostiles and gotten rid of any others that would implicate ben as the leader of the others or whatever. He did this so when the frieghtys come they will spare him because he is dharma and a captive of these paranopid 815'ers who have hyjacked the island, imploded the swan blown up the flame. This is just an extension of ben survive at all cost mentality. He lead the others to survive and when that arraingment didnt work out he opted for this plan. If he knew the end was coming he did everthing he could to get rid of the others that were recruited by the shadow money arm off the island who may are may not be the common boss of the frieghtys. So i can envision ben dropping a dime on locke for killing naomi and acting like the poor dharma janitor that is being held captive by these rabid castaways.....
as far as jacobs eye being differnet all the time, i would be willing to believe that, i have a side theory that jacob is different to everybody that can see him, like everybody having their own picture of god in thier head, not to say jacob is god. But if jacob is at all linked to smokey and smokey sacns your brain like eko, perhaps smokey projects a differnt image to everyone depending on what smokey gleans from the scan... One of the main reasons i thought it might have been charlie, whick im sure jorge wouldnt devulge anyway at this point is the way hurley ran aawy so fast from the cabin not after seeing a shadowy figure in the chair but the hooded person that popped up,and the whole episdoe we were wondering who he saw at the 7/11 and caused him to go on a high speed chase. Well it turned out to be charlie at the 7/11 and he had a simuliar reaction at the cabin, it would make nice sense that after the grief of finding out charlie died in the looking glass that an apparition of charlie would start appearing to him then. Maybe charlie has been haunting him so to speak since the island. I wonder is dave was the victem of the stair collapse that hurley feels like he caused?
picsel said... I know it s abit weird but i was thinking about how the plane was found in the ocean. I haven't finished the entire Find815.com stuff yet, but it sounds like the discovery of Flight 815 was all "set up". I believe it was only seen by ROV, i.e. no one "actually" saw the plane, and the inside was not shown. For all we know, it could have been a scale model.
It seems like Mittelos Bioscience has a lot of money, private planes, submarines, etc. I don't think it is entirely unreasonable for them to have staged this to protect themselves.
I guess what I want to know is... where do the others get their money from? Selling coconut juice?
Im still catching up too Dennis, too much Cloverfield stuff going on so i had to put lost back a bit lol
Morning! Love that the discussion keeps going on and on with new insights everyday!
Zort said: "I think that all of the losties could be in tune with the island to some extent, but they don't know they can be and they certainly don't know how to control it."
I agree. I've always felt that all the 815 survivors were brought to the island for a reason. They were all manipulated somehow to get on that plane. (Although, in Hurley's case, it was a close call getting on the plane.) They might all not know how "special" they are yet, but we are seeing more and more people getting in tune with the island...like Hurley seeing Jacob's cabin in this episode.
Dennis: I guess I agree with your list, and, I, too, am not sure about Jin. Separating them would sure make for a tearjerker.
Picsel: I agree with Dennis that whoever's behind the freckage and, possibly the freighter, has a lot of money. We know that Mittelos does (they have their own airport and airlines), and Widmore certainly has the means, as well as Paik Industries. Maybe they're all working together. I think it would be easy to dump an Oceanic mock-up in the middle of nowhere. There's something about that island that make spending a lot of money no problem!
2costa: Your "Ben as innocent Dharma worker held captive by the Losties" might be a good way that Ben would play it. He is the ultimate survivor and has now put himself in the position of, once again, talking himself out of a dire situation. If he plays the "I don't nothing...I was just held captive by these crazy survivors who took over the island and blew up a hatch, a station, a submarine...help me get away from them" he just might be one of those who get off the island and might be the one in that coffin. (Although I'm still in the Michael camp on that one!)
Off to vote! bbl
I agree with you Zort and Ben is not stupid, its not like he hasnt been caught before by the Losties, he knows exactly what hes doing, i owuldnt be surprised if he walked into Danielle's trap on purpose the first time round with a purpose of ending up catching Jack, Sawyer and Kate
Maven said... They were all manipulated somehow to get on that plane...
Yes and if the last Mobisode is anything to go by, then Jack was manipulated in a pretty elaborate way.
maven said...

Sounds like Ben would have a great chance of winning the million on Survivor! LOL
Actually I agree with that scenario. I think that Ben is allowing himself to look like a victim/captive so that he may be spared whatever is to come.
Dennis and Picsel- glad to have you back as a regulars now that Cloverfield is pretty much done.
thanks scoutpost glad to be back :) sounds like ive missed quite a bit though,
DarkUFO has the fanstasy league stats up- no need to be intimidated- ;) I'm ranked 1109!!
haha unlucky scoutpost :p
i wish i could have joined
Good evening all, I'm off to toss some pancakes and watch some TV (other than Lost)
For anyone in the UK that has a Sky+ box, I've found out that the on demand service, Anytime TV, is downloading Lost episodes one day before they air on Sky One. So we can watch them on Saturday instead of Sunday.
Although they messed up for the first episode apparently, there was a sync problem with the sound.
I'm sure the Super Tuesday voting will be a big talking point tomorrow(although not necessarily here !)
I have Sky+ and i saw the Anytime thing today, i had no idea it would be up on saturdays. maybe there is a god.
scoutpost
No need to fear me either. lol
I'm ranked 1446. I'm not sure you can get any lower. :)
I got even lower. 1875 I think.
For those of you who remember Ryan an d Jen and their podcast The Transmission, it's back. You can download it from their site.

Thanks Scoutpost! It's good to be back :)
Zort70 said... if the last Mobisode is anything to go by, then Jack was manipulated in a pretty elaborate way.
I'm not sure what you mean by that... are you saying that you think Christian Shepard is alive in that clip - "So It Begins"?
I didn't get that impression at all. What I got from the last mobisode is that Jack's dead parent appeared on the island, just like Ben's mom (and Locke's dad for that matter!)
Zort70 said... I'm sure the Super Tuesday voting will be a big talking point tomorrow(although not necessarily here !)
Hopefully not here.
As far as Christian I'm not sure what I think about that. It does seem like a repeat of Ben seeing his mother as a child. But I am leaning towards him being alive.
But Locke's dad I don't think he was dead when he appeared on the island. He was very much alive. He was kidnaped and brought there. When he told Richard to bring him the man from Tallahassee I think Cooper was already on the island. And who knows how long he'd been on the island before Ben decided to use him to his advantage. Ben knows alot about all of the suvivors. He knew Locke's dad was a weak point and that Locke may become a problem for him.
You're right about Locke's dad. I guess he wasn't dead so it not the same. But the Ben's mom example still holds.
Christian Shepard is most definitely dead.
if there was some kind of cashamir effect the flight landing and mikhail watching coverage of the crash would have been fairly synced up, the swan makes those two times collide for a time. the timelines hadnt deviated enough to make a difference. The footage of the actual crash was from the island surveilance and thats how he could tell it was 815 that crashed and the news coverage could have been form a few hour period since oceanic was 1000 miles off course....
not that i particularly perscribe to it but if the underwater crash was faked whos to say that the smokey mind warp technology didnt simulate the crash on the island in their minds. And that would relate to how jack seems to be put down like a feather in the first episode. If they have enough money to fake an underwater crash then if the mind warping technology was there who to say they didnt put everone there on the island and the crash the barracks people saw could have been smopkey too, who knows
Hey everybody. Looking forward to this weeks epi as I'm sure everyone is. Let's hope things continue to go well with the writers strike and maybe we can salvage a few more epi's this season.
I haven't had time to catch up on comments, so I'm sure this may have been talked about. It is pure speculation but I am beginning to think the rescuers were sent by Widmore Co. Mr Widmore is the only other person besides Hanso/Dharma to have knowledge of the island. He is also the only one to know about his daughters relationship with Desmond and his intent to destroy it. That's why Naomi had the pic of Desmond and Penny.
Anyway, I'm sure I'm not the first one to bring it up, but the more I go over it the more I keep coming back to this conclusion.
Going to try to catch up on comments.
Is it correct that Desmond stayed with Jack? Why would he do that when it's "Not Penny's Boat?"
I don't think Desmond would care as long as they got him off the island and back to Penny. Plus maybe after Locke caused him to be blown up and flash back in time he's changed his opinion of Locke.

Yes, Desmond did stay with Jack. My two cents is because the picture has his curiousity peaked. Why would they have a picture of him a Penny, and Naomi knew his name? Someone who sent this ship knows him and Penny.
Even thoough it's "not Penny's boat" I would still be curious.
just catching up and marking my place.
good points, everyone!
I'll check in again later, I gotta go vote...
Agreed that Desmond would go to that freighter no matter what. He knows it must have something to do with his Penny. If that means disregarding Charlie's warning and going with Jack, so be it.
Hope we don't let politics creep in here! Those discussions are for many other places!
So who do you all want to become presidient? lol im only joking
I have to say ive gotten sloppy and mostly forgotten what the Casimir effect is about, other than those Dharma bunnies, is it possible the Casimir effect could have been applied to the plane which is why there is 1 in the sea and 1 on the island. Im just trying to get another theory going other than the "faked crash" because i dont see it being plausible that some1 could dump a plane in the ocean during the huge search for the plane without anybody noticing, even if it came from one of the companies you get people seeing what companies have been spending money on. so maybe the casimir effect could have been applied to the plane... or perhaps when Desmond failed to push the button both The Casimir Effect and an effect similar to the Philidelphia effect happened at the same time. Philadelphia on the island so it appears somewhere else for a short amount of time, and the casimir effect on the plane from the electromagnetic field of the island going haywire, thus causing one to crash ala island and one to go in the ocean. but i think im reaching a bit too much.
I'll just say that I hope everyone takes advantage of the opportunity to vote.
But more importantly, ;), there have been updates to the whispers info.
Here's the latest transcript:
LEFT
"You have to believe it's me, Nikki"
"Shush"
"Did anyone say something?"
"I said nothing"
"You better not say a f**king thing or talk about Desmond"
"It's Me"
RIGHT
I'm not going to listen to them"
"It's January 7th"
"I see somebody"
"Do you recognize him?"
That's reminiscent of some people hearing Boone speaking to Shannon in previous whispers as well as the clearly heard "Elizabeth" in "Live Together, Die Alone." Many have theorized that the whispers are a Greek Chorus of those who have died on the Island. Could be.
Well, no one has to worry about me in the Fantasy League - 1729!
Thanks for updating us, Memphish. I'm so bad when it comes to hearing anything in the whispers. I'll just have to trust the transcripts. OMG...does this mean we've still have to deal with Nikki and Paulo? LOL
I dont think explained that well enough. Like Desmond missed the button and the electronegativity of the island went haywire again. Thus causing the island to take on the Philadelphia Effect making it appear somewhere else for a short amount of time. Because the island appears beneath the plane with the electromagnetic fields(or whatever the island did to cause the casimir effect on the bunnies) going haywire it causes the plane to undergo the Casimir effect. Thus 2 planes. One crashes into the island which is only there for a split second and the other plummets straight into the sea
NOTE: I've just noticed ive been saying 'electronegativity' in my post's im studying A level chemistry at the moment and have been learning about electronegativity but just so you all know, when i wrote electronegativity in my last few posts i meant 'electromagnetic' my bad lol
i always wondered about nikki and paulo, did they actually ever die, because with all the timeline issues, yeah it seems theyve been gone for ages but they might have only been down there for a little while, i hope they died though.I just expected them to come back....or atleast have some importance
Triple post sorry, but i just remembered that maybe their only purpose was that at somepoint with all the time weirdness they become 'Adam and Eve' in the caves, but i remember us debating that to death a while ago

How low..can you go...
I am -2211.
Maven,
Bummer,I knew it wasn't a new episode, but was hoping for anything Lost. Thanks for the course correction.
Takes a village: Sorry to hear about your 2211! My hubby's team is 859 (which I picked for him)! I think I"m gonna trade with him. LOL
BTW: I hear there are a lot of tornadoes around Memphis today, Memphish! Hope all is okay with you and your family.
Over at DarkUFO, Poster "X" put up this screenshot of Hurley's crash in the Camaro. I never noticed all those mirrors! And there's one in the shape of the Dharma logo! Could breaking mirrors be a sign of bad luck, or is he going through the looking glass?
Interesting screen shot. Don't know what to make of it. A big theme of the episode seemed to be Hurley's luck turning, but not necessarily as you would predict. E.g., as he tells Bernard winning the lottery was bad luck. Getting back into the mental hospital was good luck. So if he broke the mirrors, I don't know which he would have.
Thanks for the inquiries on the weather. It has been pretty insane and we've got another hour or so to go. We had tornado warnings for 2 hours solid, and Kiddo, the dogs and I retreated to our "safe place" in our house once, but fortunately our neighborhood was spared. Around us though there has been a lot of damage. A mall here in Memphis was hit as well as warehouses and individual houses. Jackson, TN 80 miles northeast of here had a college dorm and a retirement home hit. And there are reports of deaths over in Arkansas. Memphis is a regional hub. We cover eastern Arkansas, Western Tennessee and Northern Mississippi. There's been a lot of hits in a lot of those places today. Temperatures went from almost 80 today to a high in the low 40s tomorrow. That was part of the problem.
Memphish, I'm so glad you were spared. My friend's daughter is a firstyear over at that college in Jackson, and he called tonight to ask for prayer. She's fine, but the entire second floor of her dorm is gone, and the college only has one building left standing. He and his wife are going tomorrow to collect their daughter--she's ok, but all her stuff is gone.
So I'm very glad to hear you and yours were spared.
Glad we heard from you Memphish, and everything is alright with your family. Sorry for those directly effected. Your story, Amused, is very scary. Memphish mentions the dorm, and you knew someone there. Glad all is well with your friend's daughter, too.
Hey all- heard about the weather. Glad everyone is ok. That's terrible to hear though about Jackson and Arkansas.
I have to say I never thought rank 1109 was something to be proud of! ;)
picsel- we have talked about your theory about Casmir effect on the plane (or at least I read it somewhere) so you're not out on that limb alone.
memphish- thanks for the whisper info. I forgot to be looking for that. I like the Greek chorus theory.
and maven...I thought the same thing about N & P! We just can't get rid of those two can we?!
picsel- I think N & P are gone for good. I believe TPTB acknowledged that bringing them on was a mistake and they've killed them off as a solution :o
It is odd that Desmond didn't go with Locke, but it must be because he wants answers. Or maybe he just wants to whoop up on some of the freighties for lying.
Ooooh I just looked at that screencap of Hurley's crash. Dang, that's a lot of bad luck...poor guy, first cursed lottery numbers and now a dozen broken mirrors.
A2BH, I'm so glad your friends' daughter is safe and that they travel to and from Jackson safely. That's a tough thing to have happen when you're in college.
It was a rough, and very rough night for some of us.Bad weather is even scarier at night.Memphish, that was a close one. Amused,I heard that college will be closed 2 months for repairs.More nasty weather ahead today. To Chucklez, and all TLC'ers in those areas,God speed.
PS.
I rechecked;2212.Only -15 in points though. If my Ben doesn't whip out his old Dharma Gas again,
I may be still able to climb out of this Dharma pit.
I haven't been on for a couple of days. What are you referring to with the points numbers etc. ?
good morning all. Prayers go out to those affected by the storms.
I find it odd that desmond would not trust charlie and go with locke. he has been wrong twice when it comes to penny in his visions?
the following link is a place that you can get your very own nickname from Saywer. I have been renamed --Stretch
http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=nickname
Wow, I woke up today and heard/saw on the 700Club about all the destruction and death due to the storms. So glad that everyone here is OK. We got storms but not as bad as that, in Knox. Last week's winds were worse here.
Hey Picsel, my brother is with you about the island moving around. Me too, if the Philly-Exper/Unified-Field-Theory is brought into play by TPTB. It would be one explanation for how Yemi's plane got there, too.
Fascinating theories on everyone's part here also!
Oh...he named me Freebird. Guess it was hard to find one for a nondescript short person. LOL
Thanks for the Sawyer Name link Bigdog, it funny...turns out I'm Ladybug. Huh? :-)
I have said for some time now, perhaps the island is moving. Did anyone ever read the theory that Alcatraz is actually a floating island created when an ancient volcano blew and the island is a plug from it. It is floatable because lava rock is all holes etc. and light. There has always been mystery surround why the strange currants around it, and that would explain it. It was quite an interesting read when I saw if several years ago.
Ular97
I was talking about Dark UFO's The Lost Fantasy League. He has a link to it on his site.
That's a good theory Ular! A floating island made of buoyant volcanic pumice maybe. And that's why Dez could not get away from it, it kept following him wherever he went! :-D
Sorry, Ular 97, I couldn't find the actual link, but if you scroll down you will find it.
We don't tend to get storms as bad as that in the UK, so I can't really imagine what it's like. Best wishes to all in the affected areas.
My Sawyer nickname is Sanddab which is a type of fish apparently.
If it is a floating island, how is it controlled ?
If it isn't controlled then wouldn't there be more instances of boats just bumping into the island ?
Imagine if it got into the commercial shipping lanes !
My good thoughts are with those in the path of that awful weather!
My nickname is: MONDRIAN?!?!?! (I just said I was tall and creative) LOL
Capcom said in response to Ular's floating island theory:
'And that's why Dez could not get away from it, it kept following him wherever he went! :-D"
LOL. That explains everything. It makes sense that the idea of the volcano, which was mentioned by Ben and Annie's teacher, must have more importance to the overall story. They're always dropping little hints that turn out to have grave consequences!
BTW: If you do the nickname thing checking off the same things, a different nickname comes up every time. First I was Mondrian, and than I was Babar. Probably just a random cycle of names no matter what you put in! LOL
good call maven, i went back again and this time i was Haus.
This is all I could find in reference to Alcatraz floating. My sister in law first introduced me to the story because it is so hard to sail (they had a large sail boat) around it or passed it due to changing currents etc.
Thanks for the kind words. We were going to run the story about Alcatraz being a floating island again in the summer of '01 because there were some pending environmental and BCDC issues associated with the current mooring arrangement. And as you no doubt remember, San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown wanted Alcatraz to be repositioned 250 yards closer to Pier 39 for easier tourist access. San Francisco, of course, was in much better fiscal shape back then, so spendthrift ideas such as that could be batted around.
Those plans all went up in smoke, of course, with the events of 9/11, as Homeland Security has now classified the Alcatraz mooring system as top secret. We don't know if they think Osama and his friends are going to steal the island and take it offshore to be held hostage, but the public is no longer allowed to see the plans. Furthermore, friends who visited Alcatraz in recent years say the rangers are now denying that it's a floating island. Right! As if every racer on the Bay didn't know that Alcatraz floats slightly to the east during a flood and slightly to the west during an ebb.
I tried the nickname generator 3 times (with the same input), and got 3 different nicknames:
• Rinse N Repeat
• Einstein
• Huckleberry Pinhead
I'm hacking it right now to see what the deal is...
Yeah my first one was Freebird and the Picasso. But the one I liked most was Moonbeam.
Okay...I found the original article! It is an interesting article to read about the strange events of Alcatraz, even some pictures. Do I buy into the idea? I don't know but it gives you fodder to chew on anyway.
http://www.faller-mitchell.com/alcatraz.htm
I was Freebird too sayid's girl.
OK, here's how the Nickname Generator works (if anyone besides myself is interested ;)
It has groups of names for each characteristic you select, then it just picks randomly from the combined list.
Here is the complete list of names:
Tall = Stretch, Twiggy, Stork, Prince Charles, String Bean, Grimace, Haus, Sticks, Monga, Babar, Jumbotron, Chewie
Short = Peachfuzz, Stubby, Bedwetter, Little Bo Peep, Half-pint, Two bits, Short Pants, Playdoh, Chico, Munchkin
Tan = Estefan, Mr. Hamilton, Can Tan, Burnt Unit, Third Degree, Sunny, Metro
Pale = Whitesnake, Capt. Lou Albino, Red Eye, Frosty, Whiteout, Skeletor, Avalanche
Blonde = Blonde, Cotton, Farah, Barbie, Bubblehead, Sweetheart, Sweet Cheeks
Brunette = Chairman Mao, Imelda, Betty, Sugarpop, Rinse 'n' Repeat
Smart = Hawking, Professor, Einstein, Huckleberry Pinhead, Brainpan
Slow = Truckstop, Hockey Bag, Loaf, Speed Bump, Bubba, Rumplestilskin, Busboy, Flatline, Jethro
Creative = Lightbulb, Picasso, Ladybug, Cloudy, Freebird, Moonbeam, Mondrian
Logical = Spacebar, Sand Dab, Tweedledee, Math Boy, Abacus
Thoughtful = Milquetoast, Ferdinand, Wilbur, Pud, Rerun
Impulsive = Skeeter, Grasshopper, Quickie, Mr. Zippie, Quick Draw
Interesting Dennis! Some of those names are hilarous. :o)
Thanks for the info Ular. Of all the shows I've watched on the creepiness of Alcatraz, I've never caught that. Only that the tides and currents are treacherous, and it was nearly impossible to escape because of that.
You know, TPTB could have been giving us a hint about this floating island thing when making Ben mention Alcatraz. He could have named any small island in the world, but mentioned that one. There could be other reasons for it, sure, but I think that Ular's got a good idea here.
BTW, is 'Stories Of The Lost' blog going to start up again for S4? Twinkle or David? Their should be lots of moral and ethical issues to talk about this season too.
you are good dennis.
rinse n repeat, mr zippie & burnt unit - make me laugh.
I just tried to finish the TLC podcast, but I had to turn it off because of spoilers :(
Lost did well in the ratings.
I ended my podcast listening early too Dennis because of the spoilers.

Good timing! I just checked back in and I'm glad I saw this! I won't be watching the episodes live so that limits my usefulness. David?
Would you be interested in posting on the ethical and moral issues, capcom?
Yay for Sawyer's Nickname Generator. The first time I was String-bean and the second time I was Betty!
Yeah for LOST being the Top Ten!
Thanks, Dennis, for all those nicknames! Only you can't sit on the sidelines...have to get to the bottom of everything! LOL (I mean that in a good way!)
Well I did the nickname thing twice before realizing Dennis had hacked it. I was: Chairman Mao and Milquetoast...now I get why everyone hates Sawyer! LOL
LOST did do well in the ratings and if you take out the Superbowl, then the shows that beat it out were American Idol and House (not really a surprise there for many reasons), and Moment of Truth. So really not bad at all!
Isn't Thursday here yet?
So I'm #407 in the Fantasy League. All my choices scored the highest possible in their category expect I have Sayid in group 2 not Hurley. Hurley really racked up the points in the episode. I'm hoping for a Jack or Sayid FB/FF soon.
"I just want to know if Walt, Zach and Emma are part of the Oceanic 6. I'm guessing the writers have already forgotten them, but shouldn't they make an effort to get the children out of there first?
Zach and Emma are with the Others and Cindy. Walt is who the heck knows where. Appearing places where 'he's not supposed to be.'
Are the names of episodes considered spoilers? I have a comment about next Thursday's episode name, but I won't state it directly. There's nothing spoilery about what I write unless you click the link and know the title of next Thursday's episode.
Note one of the terms used in the first sentence of this article. What do you think?
Good point about the kids. They are with Cindy at the Temple by now, right? So who's to know that there are any kids?
But I don't get your meaning about the article, and I already know the name of Thursday's episode. I must be dense.
I do wonder what will happen with the group led by Richard Alpert that is on its way to the Temple. The kids are with them. Do some people go into hiding? The hostiles must really know the island well enough to know all the good hiding places. We know Rousseau does and she's only been there 16 years.
FYI: EW has the Lost Season 2 Episode Guide up. There's a quick plot summary, mythology and critque.
Spoiler alert. Doc Jensen's tease of 4.2. There is mention of the Find 815 game. If you want to know nothing skip page one and the last question on page 3 or save the article until after the episode. Page 2 has a nice interview with Jorge, and page 3 has some viewer mail, but nothing you haven't seen or discussed in the past week.
Thanks, Memphish. Think I'll save it for Friday reading! Don't want to take any chances.
I'm so glad everyone here is safe with all the extreme weather that's been happening!
I finally got my computer fixed (needed a new motherboard)! I'm soooo glad I'm all set for Lost-Day now:)

Me too! And I really hope Alpert shows up in S4 (even tho he's on that other show)... He's one of my favorite characters.
BTW, I'm #357 in Dark's fantasy league... woot, woot!!

I'm thinking that he (Michael) must have contacted the Oceanic 6 for Jack to have known about the funeral.
Jack found out about the funeral when he saw an article in the newspaper.
2costa, I love your idea that Ben has been setting himself up as the poor Dharma janitor that got caught up in this mess! Do you think he somehow manipulated Locke into killing Naomi, too?
So, maybe the rest of the real "hostiles" have now gone to the temple for safety and will wait it out for the next time they need to "purge" the island...
Sorry for a third post in a row, but I've been computer-less for a couple days, so making up for it now:)

Christian Shepard is most definitely dead.
I went to the link (the official Lost podcast transcript) and it says....
Damon Lindelof: "Of course... [low disclaimer voice] Carlton might be talking about the word 'dead' in a way that you don't fully understand yet"
Damon Lindelof: [disclaimer voice] "Assuming by 'dead', you mean rotting and decomposing. [both chuckling] No."
So, if Christian is dead, but he's not rotting and decomposing... ok, um... Maybe we HAVE reached the zombie season of Lost... LOL I guess I just can't understand because I'm flawed (like Patchy said)....
I think I'll wait til Friday, too, to read Doc Jensen.
Well, can't wait for the new episode!!! Seems that everyone here has gone to bed and so should I......
Happy LOST day, everyone!!
Can't wait for tonight's episode!!
Happy Lost Day LoCo's!!
maven and codysmom
I'm curious too about what importance Richard and his group will have. As well as the temple it's self. What is important about it that they are all treking there?
We probably won't find out in the first 8 episodes though because he was on that "other" show.
Oh and congratulations on your score.
You too darkaardvark. I wanted to chose Hurley but he was in the same group as Sayid so I had to pick him. They had to many of my favorites grouped together, but I guess that's the point.
Oh and congratulations on your score.
That was directed at codysmom.
Didn't put your name in there sorry.
Codysmom said...So, if Christian is dead, but he's not rotting and decomposing...
To quote Charlie's zombie "I am dead, but I'm also here."
Hi everyone! I'll tell ya, it's really great to be able to talk with you all everybuddy in the morning! :-D
Sure Twinkle, I don't mind helping on SOTL. Do you still have my email? If not, I'll email you, I think that I might still have yours.
Thanks for the interesting links Memphish, as usual. :-)
Maven, nothing will happen with Richard, unless "Cane" has been cancelled, heheh, J/K. Has anyone heard if it's just in hiatus for the strike or if it's been axed? I haven't heard a peep about it since before Xmas. I want Richard back on Lost! He was a great character.
What do you guys think Ben was going to say before Danielle elbowed him in the face? He said "I will not have my daughter... What? Be a guinea pig? Be tortured? Or maybe it's just to be taken off the island. What do you think Ben is afraid of. What does he know.
Happy Lost Day!!!
I know, that was very frustrating, Sayidsgirl! The best I can come up with is that the Freighties are DHARMA coming back for vengeance (cuz of the Enter 77 thing) and he doesn't want "his" innocent daughter to be caught up in the payback war for the Purge that Ben helped with. Although, how Ben could say that in 10 words or less to finish his sentence, is beyond me. :o)
Great, Capcom! I'm sure David will agree but we should check with him to get you on as an admin. The e-mail address is storiesofthelost at gmail.com
Jorge sure is making the interview rounds! I'm glad for him that he's getting all this attention!
I keep coming back to something Ben said to Alex in TTLG. She asks why not just let them leave and Ben says emphatically that he can't. Why not? It's not like other than Juliet they really know anything about Ben and his people much less how to get back to the Island.
BTW, that's my current theory about the Freighties...that DHARMA (or their powers-that-be) is on its way back to the island to re-take it (possibly because Locke told DHARMA that the purge happened by entering the code -- but they could have known before), and now they are full speed ahead comming back for a coup, no prisoners, no quarter, no mercy. But I could change my mind after seeing tonight's ep. :o)
That's very true Memphish. Why not? The Others' violent ambivalence towards the Losties from day-one has confused me since they started their attacks. I suppose it could be said that Ben thought that they might be the first (or another) wave of whomever the Freighties are to hit the beach, but....???
Something just dawned on me in discussing LOST on another forum. People here have discussed the possibility that the only "ghosts" that appear on the Island are of those whose bodies were not buried.
We know that the LOSTies found two unburied bodies in the caves. A lot of speculation has tagged them as the bodies of Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan.
There is an Other named Amelia, who should be much older than she appears on the Island.
Who says the Other named Amelia isn't, in fact, a "ghost" like Christian or Yemi, or even Jacob?
memphish said... I keep coming back to something Ben said to Alex in TTLG. She asks why not just let them leave and Ben says emphatically that he can't. Why not?
Besides the fact that Ben wanted the pregnant women to 'experiment on', think about it in relation to 'the lie' that the oceanic 6 are forced to tell. If Ben lets them leave, the outside world is going to want to know where the survivors have been all this time. The only way that Ben can protect the location of the island, or the fact the the island even exists, is to prevent people from leaving and telling about it.
Ben did allegedly let Michael and Walt leave, but only because they have dirt on Michael. The more I think about it, this may end up backfiring on Ben, and maybe Michael can redeem himself down the road by helping the O6 return to the island. Maybe that is what will put him in the coffin...
I was thinking about Hurley appologizing to Jack. I think Hurley went with Locke because he thought Locke was honoring Charlies warning and he was concerned for the safety of the Losties. When his real concern was for the safety of the island and/or Jacob.
But that doesn't explain why he feels they shouldn't have left. Maybe he didn't like what Locke did to protect the island. That Locke was right but not his methods. Not sure. Guess we'll have to wait and see. As aslways.
Kyle aka TheBookPolice said... A lot of speculation has tagged them as the bodies of Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan. That's a deep rabbit hole of assumptions :)
Amelia is the old lady in the book club, that Juliet talks to in "The Envelope". I think they are hinting at her being Amelia Earhart, and she has just lived on the island a long time, like Richard Alpert.
So far, the "ghosts" have only been seen by a few people. I don't think they are inviting "ghosts" to participate in book club.
Happy, Happy Lost Day!
Congrats to Codysmom on her high standing in the League!
I agree with Dennis that Ben really doesn't want anyone to leave because the truth about the island will come out. If Jack did get off, everyone would be questioning him about where he was for 3 months. Would he, too, have struck a deal and promise not to say anything to protect Ben? I think not. And maybe Ben knew that Michael and Walt really wouldn't get very far.
Sayid'sgirl: Good thoughts about why Hurley went with Locke. Hurley went because of Charlie's warning, and he was honoring his friend. He might have thought that Locke felt the same way, and would help protect the group that went with him. Maybe it did turn out that Locke was only trying to protect the island from the freighters.
Well, Ben's taking orders from one. Maybe they don't know she's a "ghost." Richard seemed awfully interested in Ben's vision of his mother. Maybe the original Others, the Hostiles, have some sort of commune with those entities that the LOSTies and Ben only occasionally see.
Only Ben and Locke can see Jacob, however everyone at the book club could see Amelia. If you're going to go down that road, then Alpert could be a ghost, heck everyone could be a ghost and they are all in... wait for it ... PURGATORY! Muh-ha-ha-ha-ha!!!
Y'know, Dennis, Michael Emerson made a comment in a recent issue of the official LOST magazine that isn't too far afield from your faux-speculation.
How many of the Others were there when DHARMA was operating? Is Richard the only one?
And Locke and Ben are the only ones to have seen Jacob because Ben hasn't let anyone else find the cabin! It's not their fault they haven't seen him.
Or maybe the "ghosts" on the island are the only ones who are real and all of reality as we know it is... purgatory! shriek cackle cackle cackle
Oh my goodness!! It sounds like all of this speculation and going around in circles has sent some people over the edge of the "world" as we know it. Those last two or three comments are sure proof!
You can all laugh. Have you read Doc's column today?
Well, one theory is just a good as the next, I reckon. :-D At least until TPTB ever fess up and let us in on their big secrets!
Speaking of theories, I'm starting to wonder if each of the Losties eventually has something to be ashamed of that they did on the island, like Mike, to make them guilty enough of something, that they can be threatened by whomever into telling this Big Lie. That would be something very powerful to hold over them, like Ben held over Mike, so that their squealing would have grave consequences. Otherwise, what the hay, why not spill the beans???? Unless, of course, "They" have threatened the Six with harming the ones left behind, if they do blab. Oh well, just wondering out loud.
sayid'sgirl and maven, thanks for the congrats on my league score. I'm sure having Hurley in my team helped a lot!
All this talk of purgatory... where's Chucklez???
Capcom said... Well, one theory is just a good as the next
Certainly. I'm not trying to give TBP a hard time, just some "spirited debate"
Kyle aka TheBookPolice said... Michael Emerson made a comment in a recent issue of the official LOST magazine that isn't too far afield from your faux-speculation.
Let's not venture into spoiler territory...
Kyle aka TheBookPolice said... How many of the Others were there when DHARMA was operating? Is Richard the only one?
Do you mean "hostiles"?
I count eight people in this photo from the purge, but there could be more. I assume some of those are former Dharma members, based on Ben's comments from "The Man Behind The Curtain":
I was one of the people that was smart enough to make sure that I didn't end up in that ditch
I guess it's possible that all of the people that took place in the purge were former Dharma, except Alpert. However, I think you would have to throw away a bunch of what we were led to assume. When the Dharma people were fighting the hostiles back when Ben was a kid, there seemed to be more than one, unless they were fighting a one-man army?
Also, if Alpert was also a ghost, wouldn't he be able to talk to Jacob? According to Ben:
[Richard] doesn't know where Jacob is, he doesn't talk to Jacob...
I intended to stop before revealing Emerson's full commentary, so as to avoid putting a spoiler out there. Sorry if I didn't stop soon enough.
And yeah, my question was meant to be: "How many of the current Others were part of the Hostiles when DHARMA was operating?"
I know Richard wasn't alone, obviously; I wonder, though, about the breakdown of the Others' membership. I can't get to that picture from work, so I'll check when I get home.
Oh, and I refer again to my discussion of the ash circle around Jacob's cabin. It could (of course, speculation again--it's all we've got!) just as well keep people out as it keeps (kept?) Jacob in.
Maybe the Other, others (aka the hostiles)numbers are dwindling. There were quite a few when Ben was a boy,but how many were left by the time the purge happened? Maybe Richard is the only original one left at this time.
I think the idea of the ash circle keeping people out as well as keeping Jacob in is a good idea. The question is, who is in control of it? Also, is Smokey an extra security measure for Jacob?
It could be Ben.. and that would explain a few things, like keeping him in power over the other Others.
It could be Jacob himself, so that he only gets intrusions from those he wants, but that doesn't explain the keeping Jacob in part.
My favorite idea is that it's Richard or someone else at the Temple. I have a theory about Ben being manipulated by the original hostiles from way back when he was a kid, but it's a little too crazy.
Happy Happy Joy Joy Lost Day everybody.
It's seems everyone was possesed by Chuclez for the last few hours...lol
Can't wait for Lost... Back to work...Cya
Codysmom asked: Where's Chucklez?
Chucklez is in Alabama, and his access to a computer is limited at this time.
I'll have to give him a call and let him know why his ears are burning!
btw, he got his PRGATRY license plate. It looks cool.
Happy LOST Day!
My my we've all come full circle regarding purgatory haven't we?! LOL
This is veering to another topic, but I still want to know why Ben and the OThers all dress in the dirty rag clothes- looks like the HOstiles did it first, but still what does that mean? Does it have something to do with the Temple? And we still don't know much about the funeral ritual and the mark that Juliet got.
And, if Jacob is such a force to be reckoned with, then why does an ash circle around his house keep him in place?....just more questions....
Amused2bHere, definitely give Chucklez a call.... he'll get a good laugh.
Hi scoutpost.. "just more questions".. ain't it the truth? Every episode answers some questions, but raises others. It's genious actually... keeping us guessing and theorizing. I hope they keep it up to the grand finale and I feel like... whoaaaaa.....

Maybe Ben just thinks it does....

I don't know that they purposefully dress in dirty clothes. They dressed very nice when they lived in the barracks and had access to showers and washing machines. I think your clothes just get dirty when you are living in a tent and stomping around the jungle in the rain and mud all the time.
Also, maybe the ash is a way to find Jacob's cabin, since it seems to move around...
Scoutpost: I think the shabby dress of the Others might have something to do with Jacob's fear of technology. He went crazy when Locke shone that flashlight on him. Ben uses the lantern for light. Jacob must almost be like a Luddite, who spurned technology. In Othertown, the Others can get away with living the good life, but when they roam around the island, they spurn the luxury trappings of civilization in homage to Jacob's view of being close to the island. (I know Ben uses the walkie, etc., but doesn't use any of the like around Jacob himself.)
Happy Lost Day! Boy, it comes up fast, and me with all my shopping yet to do...
Since everyone else has the rational theories well in hand, here's a wacky "what if":
What if the island ultimately turns out to be evil? What if Ben's (and now Locke's) idea of them being the "good guys" is just the island manipulating them? What if the O6 regret leaving not because they have perfecting yet to do, but because they fled the Island's evil and in the people left behind are in danger?
Ok, so I've been reading Stephen King's It (as I keep mentioning), and keep seeing parallels between the Oceanic 6 needing to return to the island and save "whoever," and the book's core group of six (well, seven technically...if you've read the book you know what I mean) grown friends who get called back to the town they grew up in (and escaped from) to fight the evil that threatened them as children and still threatens those who live there.
Possible scenarios/similarities:
• In the book, "It" can take on whatever form it wants to. The island/smoke monster/whatever takes on a variety of forms, including dead relatives, horses, etc.
• "It" controls and manipulates people to do Its bidding. Does the island do the same thing? Perhaps through the form of Jacob? Is Jacob the Island's "Pennywise"?
• What if the O6 want to go back so they can save the people they left behind from the Island itself?
• "It" uses the small town of Derry, ME as Its own personal feeding ground. What if the island bring people to it to "feed" itself in some way? Causes planes and boats to crash, etc.? What if what DHARMA saw as the unique properties of the Island are nothing more than clever bait used by the Island to lure them there, knowing full well they'd end up dead?
Crazy, perhaps, but it would be quite a twist if the Island turned out to be "bad" and the series is leading to the O6's confrontation with, and destruction of, that evil.
I just got Stephen Kings latest book, Duma Key. Guess what it is located on an island! I have barely started it, but it seem's this island is rather strange.
Happy Lost Day, one and all.
I think Jacob could have been a passenger on The Black Rock.Probably not Magnus Hanso, unless his middle name is Jacob. (I mean if my name was Magnus, I think I'd go by Jacob too.)Back then, there was no Technology.A person would probably feel intimidated by anything that wasn't even invented back then.
Maybe Jacob was the cabin boy like Ben was the janitor's son.
Hey, everybody! Happy Lost day!
tvguide.com has a short interview with Michael Emerson up on the home page right now - not too spoilery, but interesting. He doesn't give anything away, he just hints at some things. It's a little painful, though - the interviewer is atrocious and I think the director's asleep at the switch.
Oh, and I was 1858 in the fantasy league! :(
Melissa_lossa, do you have a direct link? I just tried to look for the ME interview, but there seem to be a lot of spoilery Lost stories over there...
Yes, I would advise everyone to be cautious at TVGuide.com. There's a cover story about the new season. Nothing really spoilery, but afraid to say anything else...some people don't want to know anything at all...which is okay by me.
Hey Guys
Just a heads up for those who record. Lost is 63 minutes long tonight.
Thanks, sayid'sgirl. I already preset by DVR to go over 5 min. every Thursday! If you get screwed by this tactic of going over the hour once, you learn your lesson and overset the endtime for favorite shows! LOL
Thanks, sayid'sgirl! Good to know.
Thanks for posting that Sayid's Girl. I meant to mention it earlier and forgot. I'm not sure if it's because of 4.1 which is running before it or this episode. BTW, I took the commercials out of last week's episode and it was 42 minutes. So the 2 minute longer running time was nothing but commercials. Anyone surprised?
You're all welcome.
I know how frustrating it can be when think you've recorded something and it's not all there.
I knew last week was 62 minutes thanks to memphish. So I thought I'd check to be sure how long it was tonight.
Hey gang! Had to do the new post for tonight's episode a little early since I'm about to head out.
Can't wait for tomorrow's rehashing!
I can't post on the other post! Someone help!
