GREATEST HITS - SEASON 3, EPISODE 21

Could this be Charlie's kiss good-bye? We'll have to wait until tonight's episode to see if Desmond's premonitions come true. The spoilers are out there for both this episode and the finale and I've been working my hardest to avoid the temptation to read them. Remember to keep the comments spoiler free so that we can all have the opportunity to partake in the show's revelations as they were meant to be enjoyed. Happy Lost Day everyone!

ahh.......the beginning of a new era for me?? hahaha

Congrats Chucklez!

Erich, I heard those authors on the NPR Books podcast. I'm an NPR podcast junkie, especially since they got rid of my 24 hour NPR talk station recently.

Unknown said...

Heh...I've been pretty addicted to spoilers, but I haven't seen these "big" spoilers at all. Yay!

For those of you who liked my Roger theorizing, I've got a new post up on my blog about what I feel was the biggest clue missed in last week's episode.

Anonymous said...

listening to the podcast btw.

and i have to say........37 weeks to wait between seasons is CRAP.

something has to keep us "pacified".

and tuesday nights?? ugh.

Chucklez,
I don't know what type of computer you have, i have a mac, I downloaded Audacity and it records straight through the Mac's external Mic. So no extra equipment needed. It also lets you import music iles and sound effects... whatever you want, then you convert it MP3 using LameLib, which if you don't have it basically takes you to get it.

That's all you need. If you are a Mac user.

I also just heard a quote by Albert Einstien from a paper he wrote called "Science and Religion"

"Science without Religion is Lame.
Religion without Science is Blind
You need them both."

I think this sum's up LOST... lol

Love Colbert!

Anyway, gonna stay away after LOST is done on west coast...don't want to risk any spoilers or the slightest hint of one. Cya later or tomorrow...

Getting close for you east coasters and central people huh? You lucky dogs!
See ya'll after the show MST- that is if my kids sleep ok- they all have some kind of virus and are running fevers. ugh-poor babies. Gotta love 'em!

Hey admin- how's your wife feeling? Hopefully well.

Scoutpost,

Thanks for asking. Both Alli & our little boy (Chapman?) are doing well. I'm starting to feel him kick and move around.

Off to watch poor Jordin get kicked off of American Idol...

Darkaardvark said...

So yeah- I've sworn off spoilers for the rest of the season, period. That doesn't include Doc Jensen and stuff like that, but specifically DarkUFO. Doc Jensen says that there are people who claim to have (transcripts?) all the info on the finale and Greatest Hits... I don't want to accidentally stumble over the "game-changer". That would bite. Not that I've been looking at spoilers recently anyways. Which has been really weird. I have no idea whether to be excited for this episode or not, except that the Bernard/Rose thing (as shown in the promo) is gonna rock.

memphish said...

DAA, I've heard about 3 steps removed about THE spoiler that is supposedly out there. "They" say it's good, but I don't want to know in advance. After all, we'll have plenty of time to discuss whatever "IT" might be.

This time next week, we'll already be watching!

Almost there! Enjoy the episode folks! If I'm smart I'll go to bed right after. If not, I'll be on to recap.

Memphish: it's a small world, eh?

Okay, I'm having a blonde moment (and I'm not blonde). Why did it never occur to me to ask who the heck Sayid is tackling in the promo?

Hi everybody! Almost time - be back after the show!

Darkaardvark said...

Karl?

Tess315 said...

darkaardvark
Yeah I thinks it's Karl

megan said...

so..i'm really excited for tonight's epi. so glad to see jack being JACK again! haha.

Darkaardvark said...

Whooo, underwater cable station! Sweet.

Darkaardvark said...

I *KNEW* Charlie would have to choose between himself and Claire!

megan said...

aww..this makes me sad. out of everyone on the island, i wanted charlie claire and aaron to live happily ever after. i realllly do. i mean, jack/kate/sawyer triangles are fun and all, but i just love charlie and claire together. however, i can see him sacrificing himself to save her. =[

i understand that juliet is supposed to be good and all now, but i still dislike her because she is so..smug. ugh.

Tess315 said...

megan agree with everything you said including about Juliet. UGH

Darkaardvark said...

Ugh, I kinda think Charlie will die. They're going to basically fill in every gap in his backstory with these flashbacks.

Tess315 said...

He's going to sacrifice himself and there isn't going to be a helicopter or rescue for Claire and Aaron.
Plus back when Boone was trying to save that woman Charlie said he couldn't swim to Jack.

Darkaardvark said...

Oh, how I love Rose and Bernard's banter.

I kinda agree with Jack, hate to say it. Why focus on getting rescued when there's a chance you may not survive? Life and limb first, rescue second. But of course all the storylines have to go at the same time for the finale.

Darkaardvark said...

"Plus back when Boone was trying to save that woman Charlie said he couldn't swim to Jack."

I remember that. But then... why the shot of him in the pool? And if he can't swim at all, he wouldn't be able to make it down to The Looking Glass, he'd just drown. Things don't match up...

I guess Desmond's flash implies that after Charlie succeeds and dies, Naomi's people will swoop in for a rescue. But... man, I'm not convinced it's going to go down just like that.

Anonymous said...

eh

megan said...

i agree, darkaardvark..but i also understand we're amping up the drama for FINALE!! haha.

also, dark, i agree w/what you said about charlie..since this episode is called "greatest hits" i guess he's making a list of the 'greatest hits' of his life? his favorite moments, perhaps. and maybe feeling like he's dying for a reason [whether or not there is rescue] will make a difference. still devastated if he dies, though. still hoping for a miracle!

and i am NOTTT looking at spoilers. even though its killing me lol.

Anonymous said...

they're coming tonight!!

they're coming right now!!!!

i'm rick james b!%#ch!!!!

megan said...

there is going to be no storybook ending for the losties..at least, not right now. obviously since the show is coming back for more seasons. of course, they'll probably leave us w/a massive cliffhanger and then leave us hanging for 37 weeks or however long. booo. =[

Anonymous said...

mmmm...........yummmyyyyy

so much for the rabbit.

Darkaardvark said...

Somehow I wish both Heroes *and* Lost didn't have a season finale whose essential question is "Can you change the future?" I mean, it's cool and all, but I don't like it being so similar.

megan said...

lmao chucklez!
maury povich..oh my.

i am seriously depressed right now. all these "charlie is gonna die" signs..sniffle. i'll lose it if his #1 moment on his list is meeting claire or something.

but pushing past the sadness..i am sooo excited for the big beach showdown..and i hope ben dies..and locke returns. lol.

Tess315 said...

What if Desmond decides to save Charlie again? Do you think then he would die? Cause I don't want him to die any more than I do Charlie.

Anonymous said...

charlie's #1:

#1. crashing in purgatory...

hahahaha.........sorry, had to.

Anonymous said...

is it me or does hurley look like the kool-aid man in the red shirt??? hahahaha.

"OH YEAAAAHHH!!!"

megan said...

haha chucklez..i love the kool-aid guy. although he was a little creepy when i was younger.

as for desmond, i dunno..sometimes i think he sees charlie w/claire and aaron and thats what has made him save charlie in the past. but desmond is a great character too..so obviously his death would be sad too.

sometimes i wonder if charlie won't die just because they're making it so obvious. but i just dunno anymore. lost gives me a headache sometimes haha.

Darkaardvark said...

Episodes like this one usually have a big twist in the last 10 minutes. But the week before the season finale, do they still have a card left to play, or are they saving them all?

Anonymous said...

maybe desmond knows that (somehow) THIS "TASK" will actually save charlie in the long-run. hmmmm........we didn't see the vision. so we don't know if desmond's telling the truth.

Anonymous said...

here comes the #1......

Darkaardvark said...

I'm still intrigued by the question of whether or not Desmond is "meant" to save Charlie- if the flashes are a test, is the test to let him die, or save him?

Anonymous said...

in my "theory", they're all eventually faced with life and death decisions. choices that will "release them" and ultimately lead them to either salvation or damnation.

eh....

Anonymous said...

ooh!! that's what i said before!!

that desmond was supposed to die!!!

Darkaardvark said...

Well, we all sure as heck know Des ain't dying.

Anonymous said...

and choices are made.

Oh snap. Bernard, Sayid, Jin. All on their knees, gagged. Pleeeease tell me they're not all going to die.

Anonymous said...

nah. they won't all die.

bernard will find out that rose is an other.

sayid will be revealed as an other and charlie has a big bowl of cap'n crunch with the chicks, while watching scooby doo.

megan said...

haha oh my..well, i'm glad that charlie is still alive [for now] even though the girl power squad is out to shoot him.

poor des and his head injury lol.
glad he didn't die either, though.

did anyone see jack tell kate "i love you" in the scenes from next week? i have been hoping for a jack/kate reunion for a long time. i know she's probably preggers with sawyer's baby and all..but i just love jack/kate. i'm a sucker for a good love story haha.

Erich said...

I guess this was the first third of the season finale.

Great episode, though. One of the best uses of flashbacks in a long while.

megan said...

i was so glad to see rose and bernard back and adorable as ever. =]

and i am just so relieved that jack is back. i mean, seriously, he was driving me insane.

Unknown said...

Hey! I was expecting my fresh-from-the-oven theory of nonrescue to be completely blown out of the water (heh, no pun intended) by Charlie dying and triggering the copter scene as laid out by Desmond.

But the promos for next week's episode have me feeling pretty good.

This was a very nice episode. I've been saying since the rumors of Charlie's demise starting bouncing around a while ago that, before he goes, he's going to have to totally redeem himself or completely sell out. I'd say he's moving towards the former by the end.

engineer27 said...

Our local station claims that they will be revealing some "clues you likely missed" from tonight's ep. So I'll be up later.

Which means, I get to comment.
So, was Juliet lying or did she really know that the station was not flooded and still staffed?
And I didn't see Des in Charlie's flashback.

Darkaardvark said...

In-depth thoughts on the promo:

Okay, whose bright idea was it to bring Vincent to the tower?

I count 7 Others in the extraction team.

That is a NICE explosion.

So Ben's there waiting for Jack while the shootout happens. Man, that guy is on top of stuff.

Ben's "Shoot 'em" can NOT be a direct response to Jack's line. It makes no sense, and then they cut to the beach- but Ben isn't there! Trickery by the promomakers.

I really don't want Sayid to die.

Whose that lone shooter standing out by the cable? Trying to snipe Desmond?

Desmond wakes up and swims down to save Charlie. And takes a gun with him. Apparently it's waterproof.

Jack loves Kate. Or Juliet. Or Ben? (WAH???)

Anonymous said...

"waterproof"?? not sure where you're going with that (the gun thing)

maybe the blow to the head makes desmond normal again.

memphish said...

Engineer27, just can't stay away, huh?

I agree this was a great use of the Flashback. I felt kind of bad that Charlie had to share with Karl though.

I wonder what the rabbit was that Karl mentioned to Alex.

Why can Charlie swim all of a sudden? Is this multiple time line crap?!?

acewebguy said...

So is the Looking Glass where the Dharma Shark comes from?

Anonymous said...

off to bed

engineer27 said...

Darkaard: As Sawyer told Michael in "Adrift" (season 2), just because a gun has been underwater doesn't mean it won't fire.

In fact, most guns can actually be fired underwater. Saw it on Mythbusters.

Darkaardvark said...

I was being sarcastic. It shows Des pulling out a gun down in The Looking Glass. So he swam down there with a gun. That would've gotten it quite wet. I'm no gun expert, but that can't be good for it. Though I remember one other time on Lost where a gun got wet and still worked.

Darkaardvark said...

Engineer, that's exactly what I was thinking of, and I stand corrected.

And I love Mythbusters. The Losties should hide under two feet of water!

engineer27 said...

memphish:
Yea, I decided to stay up to see what the local news has about Lost.

And the rabbit was what Alex was working on when Ben got back. It's why her hands were all bloody.

engineer27 said...

Someday the Mythbusters team will have a field day with Lost.

memphish said...

Good call E27. I noticed the bloody hands. Is Ben eating his pet now? I wouldn't be surprised. Alpert didn't seem happy, did he? Whoever it was calling Jack working with Danielle, good call. I still don't get it because why does Danielle need to hitch her wagon to the LOSTies, but good call.

Darkaardvark said...

Memphish: It was the rabbit she was killing at the start of that scene. Perhaps rabbit #8.

acewebguy: "So is the Looking Glass where the Dharma Shark comes from?" I still think it was from the Hydra. They flooded the room for zoological experiments. TLG (I'm so not typing out the long name any more) is probably more for communications, the radar they always talk about.

Joseph Finchum said...

DAA,

"dark: cuz it's not in the script."
This cracked me up.

It semed to me that the kid playing young Charlie... was TALLER than Charlie... lol

Melissa_Lossa said...

So, a few things:

Was gunwoman #2 at the end Cindy? Kind of looked like her.

Charlie's flashback where he was singing "Wonderwall" - was this the original version, sans Desmond?

All in all, this was an awesome episode.

engineer27 said...

dedj: He isn't a Hobbit anymore!

megan said...

i'll be back tomorrow for lots more discussion. i'm off to rest my brain lol. <33

memphish said...

So let's explore this timeline thing. We've seen 2 things with Charlie and swimming. Pre-purpling he can't swim. Post-purpling the 4th best thing in his life is his dad teaching him to swim. Is that the difference?

Melissa_Lossa said...

From the ring flashback on, I was just waiting for Charlie to give it to either Aaron or Claire. Too bad Claire left it behind!

acewebguy said...

And was the woman Charlie saved Nadia? I thought I read something about here being in this episode, but it didn't look like her to me.

memphish said...

Melissa_Lossa, I thought gunwoman #2 looked like Cassidy. Could be Cindy though. They both have that feathery hair.

memphish said...

Acewebguy, I thought it was Nadia, but it was hard to tell.

acewebguy said...

I thought it was Cindy also

Joseph Finchum said...

I think it is a different time from when Charlie met Desmond, thats why Charlie didn't seem surprised by the rain in the Desmond Flashback. It happens all the time when you are working on the street in England.

Was the woman that Charlie saved Nadia?

Melissa_Lossa said...

memphish - how about this: pre-purpling, Charlie sings "Wonderwall," gets rained on, and saves the girl. Post-purpling, Charlie sings "Wonderwall," is accosted by Desmond, gets distracted, misses the girl?

memphish said...

What was the name of the person they named Drive Shaft after? I thought it was Dexter Stratton, but a quick wiki search and a google yielded nothing useful.

Darkaardvark said...

Yes, the cast list for this week lists Andrea Gabriel as Nadia.

I read a spoiler 3-4 weeks ago that said it was Naomi. Wrooong.

Capcom said...

Wasn't it Dexter Bloody Stratton? :o)

engineer27 said...

color me disappointed -- local news covered stuff we had beaten to death last Thursday.

Well, I'm overdue for bed. I have to get up early prowling lost media for interesting screen caps.

Kimber said...

Whoo Hoo so that is where they are hiding the women folk. Go Greta, Go Bonnie.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Oh, I didn't catch Nadia, although I assumed that she had to be someone we knew.

Yeah, I think gunwoman #2 is Cindy or Cassidy. She looked familiar. Anyone get a screenshot? :)

Could gunwoman #1 be Annie? Maybe some of the Dharmas escaped to TLG, without Ben knowing? I wonder who told Ben that TLG was flooded?

acewebguy said...

Ok, somebody explain the plan to me again, because I am missing something. Juliet said Ben told her TLG had been flooded. Now if it was flooded (obviously another lie by Ben), woudn't Charlie have had to swim around until he found the switch? The bay would have been flooded as well.
So it would have been virtually impossible for him to swim down there, swim around from room to room, and hopefully find the switch.

Or am I missing something?

Darkaardvark said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Melissa_Lossa said...

I don't think you're missing anything, ace. I didn't think that made much sense either. Seemed like quite the leap of faith that Charlie would be able to find the right lever in time.

Darkaardvark said...

acewebguy, yeah. At best, he would've had a chance to find and pull the lever before oxygen starvation and death. Which was why he would die. Which... wait. Makes Desmond's flash DEAD WRONG. Unless Desmond was lying, his flash wasn't even close.

I'll get the screenshot in a sec.

memphish said...

In time isn't really the issue. He just needs to turn it off at some point so they can transmit. And Juliet is still a lying liar! Just thought I'd through that in there. They should have left her tied up in a tent.

acewebguy said...

Last week we were wondering why Ben is in charge when we know of at least one Other who has been on the island longer (Alpert).

Maybe the "natives" made Ben the leader because they decided to use DI equipment and stations, and since Ben was the person who knew the most about DI, they put him in charge. Juliet said she didn't know anyone who had been to TLG. So maybe Ben is keeping hatches (and spooky leaders) to himself, and thus preventing his power from being usurped because without his intel, the others would be lost.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Well, I meant that he had to find the right lever before he drowned. Juliet said that the entire station was flooded, so he would have to swim through the rooms.

I wondered about Desmond's flashback, too. What happened to change it so drastically? Or was he making it up all along?

acewebguy said...

But Memphish, from the outside TLG looked HUGE! No way he could have found that lever in time without air. Not sure he could find it even with air.

BTW, where did Sayid get TLG blueprints. When I first saw them , I thought he was a Dharma contractor or something.

Beverly said...

LOL about the hobbit having the ring :)

Yeah, I think that was Cindy in the last scene. Could this be where they've been hiding the kids?

Either Juliet was lying and did a double-double cross by telling them that the station was flooded. And someone must have tipped off Ben about the Tower? Who did that? Juliet? Danielle?

memphish said...

I never believed Juliet about the station being flooded. I assumed that it would look like the map that awesome Sayid had. It was an underwater hatch (go Handsome Jack!) but that once you got inside the docking bay it wasn't flooded.

Also I don't think either of those women were Annie. Too young.

As for Desmond, I just think his flashes don't work quite right. I don't think it would have been Penny if Charlie had died in Catch-22.

Kimber said...

lol, love my dvr, I think the TLG station logo is a rabbit.

memphish said...

Acewebguy, Sayid took the maps from The Flame in "Enter 77."

Melissa_Lossa said...

If Juliet didn't know anyone who had been to TLG, who HAD been there? Alpert maybe? If Ben was using the signal to jam all outgoing messages, someone must have been down there to set it.

Although, did Ben et al know that the message that was braodcasting was no longer theirs? I'm surprised that they would let Danielle's distress signal go on for that long. Has it been so long since anyone's been to TLG that they thought the signal was still broadcasting the numbers?

If that's the case, it seems possible that the people down there are original Dharma survivors. Which would mean that's not Cindy OR Cassidy down there. :)

Joseph Finchum said...

He could still drown. If there is some kind of fail safe and when you flip that switch, it triggers the place to flood. Desmond didn't say he was swimming around, only that he will flip the switch, then drown.

Darkaardvark said...

Putting Rabbits inside The Looking Glass is mixing their Lewis Carroll references Kimber. The Rabbit led Alice down the hole into Wonderland, but not through the Looking Glass. That was a kitten.

Here's the screenshot

Ded, I agree with that idea. I figured the place was rigged like The Flame and once Charlie did the equivalent of Entering 77 the place would blow.

Anonymous said...

that was a bummer of an episode .

Capcom said...

Oh man, that's the nutty chick from 90210!

memphish said...

I guess IMDB probably won't help because neither TLG girl spoke. Thanks for the screencaps DAA.

Melissa_Lossa said...

dark, you rock! Looking at the screenshot, I think it looks more like Cassidy.

I don't know, I think Blondie looks old enough to be Annie.

After the village gets gassed, Ben makes the touching gesture of closing Horace's eyes. I think that if Annie was still in the village, it would have been her.

Melissa_Lossa said...

capcom - are you talking about Emily Valentine on 90210?

Darkaardvark said...

Much obliged, all.

Man, Cassidy being an Oher would just be weird, but I do admit it kinda looks like her.

Kimber said...

Memphish - go to lostpedia http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Greatest_Hits

Greta - Lana Parilla
Bonnie - Tracy Middendorf

Capcom said...

Melissa, I think it's the one that went crazy for the blonde guy played by Ian Z. Gosh, I can't believe that I forget all their names now! I loved that show. I forget what her story was, but she was a nut-case girl from the college I think. She wasn't a regular.

Melissa_Lossa said...

Yeah, I don't really understand how Cassidy could be an Other.

Maybe it's Paige Davis from Trading Spaces. Didn't she kind of start that feathery hairstyle?

memphish said...

Was Annie that blonde in Ben's flashback? Is TLG the Salon Hatch we've been looking for?

memphish said...

Thanks Kimber! Can we expect a Clyde next week? No don't tell me. :)

Darkaardvark said...

Wikipedia: In 2007, Parrilla has signed on to star in a CBS pilot, Swingtown, and will also guest star as a character called Greta in upcoming third season episodes of Lost, "Greatest Hits" and "Through the Looking Glass"

Middendorf: Lost (2007) (TV) Annie

Melissa_Lossa said...

Nice catch, kimber. Guess we've never seen either of them before.

Kimber said...

Snicker, Clyde, lol Ok I have to go to bed now.

Maven, it was so cool and Charlie didn't die yet.

Joseph Finchum said...

Which nutty chick?

She looks too young to be any of the cast members, I hope your not thinking about Jenny Garth because she looks a lil worse for wear these days... :(

And this chick is Cute... More cute chicks on Lost... Are Rose and Amelia the only not hot woman allowed on this damn Island... lol

I like the idea that those people down there are OG Dharma. Maybe the message that Danielle changed was set to trap the Dharma rescue team Alpha. These hiding Dharma members could have flipped the switch to jam the transmission as a sign of self sacrafice. Then they trigger a malfunction that lets the Flame know its been flooded and that's what Ben thought about it. These people will turn out to be good guys and help. They will however have to torture Charlie to figure this out since maybe Ben has sent others down there and none return. Now they get there information and go off to plan something. Charlie escapes and flips the switch, thus flooding the place and killing everyone...

Maybe

Melissa_Lossa said...

They're both listed on imdb as being in Greatest Hits and Through the Looking Glass.

Interesting title for next week, eh?

Capcom said...

Ded, check out the first "Creature from the Black Lagoon" movie to see how good Amelia used to look. :o)

No, not Garth. This girl I think tried to accuse one of the guys (Ian Z.) of rape, I think.

Darkaardvark said...

Waitwaitwait backup. Annie. Annie Annie? So she's still alive and on the island, then? Wasn't expecting that.

Joseph Finchum said...

Cap,
I've seen it, was that her?

memphish said...

Why would Danielle and Jack work together? That seems really really screwy to me.

First of all, where was Danielle when the whole gassing of Othersville went down? Then why work with Jack? The only people Danielle has ever expressed any trust in were Sayid and maybe Kate and Claire.

Why would Danielle agree to this blow up plan? How does she know that Alex isn't in the group coming to kidnap the women? Why doesn't she take Juliet and get the answers she wants and needs?

That's a scene I'd like to see, Danielle torturing Juliet (to the death) to recover Alex.

Capcom said...

Tracy is listed in IMDB as being in 90210.

Yeah Ded, that's her, and rats, I can't remember her name either, she was one of my dad's favorites! Anyway, she did the swimmin' and screamin' with the Creature. :-)

Tess315 said...

melissa_lossa
It's two separate signals. The one at the tower is Danielle's that's where they are all going to turn that one off. The signal at TLG is supposedly Ben's that he uses to jam any out going signal which is why Danielle's was never heard. Charlie was going to turn that one off.

Capcom said...

Julie Adams!!! Sheesh.

memphish said...

At this point I have nothing but questions. For example, where was Aaron when every regular cast member was following Jack into the jungle to watch Danielle blow up a tree?

What's with all the Jack Other hate? He was fine with them when they were going to let him leave on a sub, but now they must all die? Besides his plan doesn't even make sense. Best case scenario they kill 10 of the Others and there are 40 more left. Right? Where do you hide now Dr. Self-Righteous?

Capcom said...

Awwww, I like your avi Sayidsgirl. That scene got me choked up.

Joseph Finchum said...

Sayid'sgirl,
No, the one Charlie went to is just a jamming array of some sort. We were saying that Danielles message replaced the one they might have used as bait.

Darkaardvark said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
memphish said...

So is it the case that Desmond's flashes are Smoke Monster induced? Desmond sees Charlie die over and over and the last 2 times there are "good" consequences to Charlie's death, first Penny, then Claire's rescue. I'm starting to think these visions are Island produced because they keep upping the ante to lead to Charlie's death.

memphish said...

Why was Karl able to find Alex and the rest of the Others assuming that they had to gas the compound to knock out Sayid. Wouldn't Karl have been affected as well? Maybe Alex got a gas mask to him? Maybe the book carrying people left a trail?

Capcom said...

I don't understand your question Memphish.

Darkaardvark said...

Memphish, Karl would've found Alex a while ago at that point, I'm assuming that he had advance notice and that if he was far enough outside of the camp, it wouldn't be a danger to him.

Has it been so long since anyone's been to TLG that they thought the signal was still broadcasting the numbers?

This was the part that had me confused I guess. I thought that she was saying that the TLG had been broadcasting the numbers not the tower and that Danielle had changed this signal.
That's why I thought maybe she thought they were both the same signal.
I know the TLG is a jamming signal and I understand what you were saying about the original signal before Danielle changed it may have been bait. I guess I misunderstood her. Was just trying to help.

Memphish,
I think Karl has been hiding out in the jungle and Ale has been helping him survive. The line about the rabbit makes me think that they have been in touch. You can't squash young love as thay say.

Who is this They. ARe they the They that are in TLG... lol

Also why did the plans call it a Hatch? All of a suddedn the one STATION underwater is classified as a Hatch. That was only the title given to it by the losties... Locke found a Hatch.

Capcom said...

The Q about Karl, but Dark kind of cleared it up.

Joseph Finchum said...

Aaaaahhhhhh,
And I misunderstood you... lol

Capcom said...

Good Q about the "hatch" Ded. Technically, a hatch is just a door, correct?

memphish said...

Ded, excellent point about the symantics. It was well into Season 2 before we got a PTB confirmation of the term Hatch. Guess it's those new writers.

As for Alex and Karl, I agree they must have had some way to meet up. I guess there were 5-6 days from when Sawyer let Karl go in the jungle until the great gas release. Alex could have easily given Karl the plans.

But where oh where was Danielle? And why does she trust Jack who she saw playing football with the Others?

Dennis said...

I uploaded the preview in slow-motion onto YouTube.

It looks like Desmond had a harpoon, then we see Mikhail, then Desmond shoots the harpoon, and someone falls into the water.

Darkaardvark said...

It looks to me like that scene is out of order. It look like in the scene before it, all the people ate hiking, and they have Ben tied up and are leading him along. (he's on the far right)

memphish said...

New theory -- The Looking Glass is not a Dharma station but is a "Hatch" Ben created post-purge. It sends out the Valenzetti numbers and blocks transmissions from the Island so DI keeps sending signals. The symbol is Ben's favorite pet, the rabbit. It's called the Looking Glass because it is reflecting to the world the image the world wants to see but not the image that actually is.

memphish said...

I meant DI keeps sending supply drops, not signals. Brain and hands are not moving at the same speed at this point.

TechnoPrep said...

capcom...who's Bonnie?

memphish said...

Capcom, Bonnie is the name Lostpedia gives to one of the gun toting TLG girls.

memphish said...

Why would Ben move up the raid on the camp by a day? Did he go back and meet with Jacob after shooting Locke to get directions? Is it just a diversion for the troops back at tent village? I'd go with the second option. If he gives his people something else to focus on, taking the women from the LOSTies, they don't have time to question him about Locke. It doesn't make complete sense though because Ryan Pryce (the new Pickett) only takes 10 of them with him.

Unknown said...

memphish - Ben looked frantic. I'm guessing he's desperate, after Locke's encounter with Jacob.

I don't think Ben's in control of himself at this point, nevermind the rest of the Others.

Nighty night all. Looking forward to tomorrow. I'm on the road this weekend, so let's get it sorted out before I leave on Friday, okay? :D

I'm scared to rewatch that preview. I don't want it to be over for 8 months. Don't forget the clip show airs tomorrow night at 10:15 pm Eastern/Pacific.

Capcom said...

Bonnie is also the name given in the IMDB listing for tonight's episode, for Tracy Middendorf, who is one of the gunner's (the blonde) that we saw tonight.

Hey Everyone,

Medium range epi in my opinion. Not the best, not the worst. Next weeks epi is looking very sexy right now.

Couple observations while I cathc up on comments. Nothing too major to discuss but a few interesting things:

1. Through the looking glass - Another literary reference. I beleive this was part two in the Alice In Wonderland series. I'll have to wikipedia, but I beleive Alice found a book that only b read by holding it up to a mirror, meaning the text was backwards.

2. Re-emergence of Daniell. So she didn't follow Ben and the others, and has been helping Jack with his plot to get even with Ben. Still not sure what to think since someone is obviously still a mole. It was interesting that she finally decided to get involved and put aside her typical I avoid the others stance.

3. #1 one memory meeting Claire. Best thing to even happen to Charlie was getting wrecked on the island so he could meet Claire. I have been pretty vocal that Charlie has been my least favorite character, but I have to admit tonight he won me over a bit. Embracing his destiny, being a hero, lying to Hurley and making him go away, and knocking out Dez. Reminded me of Hiro from Heroes. Well played sir!

4. Charlie seems to be one person without daddy issues we see from his flashback.

5. Alex and Carl are the new breed of the others. Rebelious but pure at heart with good intentions. Very opposite of Ben.

6. The new sheriff is named Ryan Price. No significance I can think and no good anagrams.

7. Speculation from the post epi preview. Only 3 possible moles: Jules, Danielle or Naomi. Who sells out our group, or does Ben put two and two together about the radio tower when he gets word that Charlie found his way to the looking glass? Waiting one week is going to suck!

Going to catch up on commens now.

So, a few things:

Was gunwoman #2 at the end Cindy? Kind of looked like her.

Thought the same thing so I watched the end preview frame by frame. Not her. I'm thinking it is going to be the reveal of where Annie is, or whoever Ben's child hood friend is. Would make sense why Ben says it was flooded and no one is down there.

darkaardvark - Could we get one more woman who looks like Sarah?

Totally agree while busting a gut. I can imagine how many post are up right now sighting people saw Sarah, Cassidy, etc.

I agree with those who think they are original Dharma people. The end preview even show Mikhail down there. Could these be the " smart ones" that Ben eluded survived with him, and he has been keeping them a secret from the others? is that why he says the hatch is flooded, or is it all part of the trap?

Joseph Finchum said...

The T.V. Guide says that the Answers show starts at 10:07, because of a overlap from Grey's anatomy.

Yes it is a harpoon, and that is Mikhail. SO there must be another way into The Looking Glass.
VHS rocks... lol

So what else does Sayid have that we don't know about. He could have taken a whole manual that shows everything on and off the island, we just don't know it yet.

DiggityDirge said...

Sayid'sgirl,
No, the one Charlie went to is just a jamming array of some sort. We were saying that Danielles message replaced the one they might have used as bait.

The whole point was the others could care less about Danielle's message because they were blocking it from the looking glass. I wonder if it is another Ben/Jules rouse on the group to get them to go to the looking glass and radio tower, or an illusion to make Danielle and the survivors believe her message has a chance of getting out?

Wow!! I thought this was a great episode! I got emotional, so it must have been good. I don't want Charlie to die!

First thoughts:

I REALLY wanted Juliet to get "Arzted" by the dynamite! (I know, not nice).

Thought for sure Charlie's Dad wasn't going to catch him when he jumped in the water...

Noticed a big, old-fashioned black car right as Charlie puts his guitar away in the rain.... and then it was parked at the end of the alley when he helps Nadia

When I saw that flashback with Charlie singing in the street, I thought maybe things had changed, so Desmond's flashback could be wrong...

It is NOT Cindy, Sarah, Cassidy, etc. in TLG hatch...

New theory -- The Looking Glass is not a Dharma station but is a "Hatch" Ben created post-purge. It sends out the Valenzetti numbers and blocks transmissions from the Island so DI keeps sending signals.

Wouldn't we be safe to say that the whole ARG from last summer has little or nothing to do with the actual LOST storyline? I know it was fun and how we all got together, but we learned last week that the real others could have cared less about the Dharma intiative and it's goals, thus killing all of them but using their technology to their advantage. The real others obviusly existed long before Dharma and were the original "island natives" as Goodspeed said.

We may learn a bit more about Dharma as we go along, but I am pretty confident that the Valenzetti equation, Alvar Hanso, and Mittelwerk have little or nothing to do with the future LOST storyline. Less focus on Dharma, more focus on the real others. Dharma wanted to use that island for a specific reason, but nothing we have learned about yet. I think that is why the producers have said they could never explain the numbers.

My question is how do the real others continue to get Dharma supplies since the purge. My theory is they turned Mikhail to their side and used him to keep the illusion that the DI was stilling going.

Beverly said...

I just had a thought about Naomi. Desmond, Hurley, Charlie and Jin were near the cable when they saw her helo crash into the water and she parachuted down. Could she have been sending supplies or something to the looking glass? Could that be why Mikhail came running when he saw the flare?

DiggityDirge said...

LostIt said...

Could that be why Mikhail came running when he saw the flare?

I'm not sure what to think about Naomi at this point. I origannly thought she was a Ben plant, another diversion or spy. But seeing Ben's shock when Mikhail told him about her he seemed shocked. That could have been staged for Locke's purposes, but it still seems too weird to me that no one knows where the island is yet she somehow finds her way there.

Hey all- wow they really used this epi to set up next week. All in all, Charlie's story was a good one. I figured he wouldn't die (at least in this epi) because they were building it up so- but yet I was still teary eyed!

My observations- nothing that hasn't been mentioned:
Interesting flashback in London and that Des didn't come up to him this time. What is going on there? Also- noticed Nadia as the woman he saved from the mugger. Re: the TLG girls, I know it isn't credited to her, but dang that brunette does look a whole lot like Cassidy.
Rewatching the promo in slow motion- you can tell they did some scenes out of order- the Losties do have Ben tied up at one point and are leading him along.
What a coincidence that the TLG hatch symbol is a rabbit! There's something funky going on about those rabbits. So is Des gonna rescue Charlie?

Maybe that's why next weeks epi has that name, it's supposed to be a game changer, so maybe the way we've been looking at things is backwards. Now what that means I dunno know!

Another great episode! Skimmed through comments! Tired (as usual) and most of you have gone to bed. First thoughts:
1. Loved Charlie telling Hurley: "Why can't every thing be open? We ask that all that time! LOL
2. Danielle comes to the rescue with the Dyn-No-Mite.
3. Yea, Jack. "Blow them all to hell." (See, Chucklez, hell IS mentioned!). Jack finally has a plan.
4. When Naomi told Charlie that he should "look on the bright side...you're not really dead, right?" Or is he? Another point for Chucklez. LOL
5. Well, Charlie has his own little Catch-22 choice: Claire/Aaron being rescued or his own life.
6. Juliet is still lying about TLG station. Why?
7. Jack was put in the position of
leadership, not is asserting his authority. Makes decision to fight rather than go ahead with rescue attempt.
8. Cute to see Rose and Bernard.
9. Sun doesn't tell Jin about pregnancy problems.
10. Gross! Eating your pet rabbit?
11. 'IS HE MY FATHER?" Finally.
12.The DS family ring heirloom. First thought was Hobbit ring! LOL So DS stands for Dexter Stratton? Who's he?
13.They really pushed that Charlie is going to go...very sad goodbyes to Aaron and Claire and Hurley.
14.Think the woman Charlie helped was Nadia.
15. Practical Rose: Need to change into darker shirt!
16. You guys...my real name is BONNIE! LOL So weird to see it throughout the comments!

Can't believe Melinda was voted off!

Scoutpost said...

One more thing, then I'm off to bed. I was reading Lostpedia's recap of the episode and they mention Charlie's swimming, too. Here's what they write-
Charlie claims to have been a captain on the swim team, learns to swim with his father in a flashback but when Joanna drowned in Season 1 Charlie claimed he "didn't know how to swim".
Charlie could have just been saying he was a captain of the swim team in order to reassure the Losties and allow him to go on the mission. As Desmond saw in one of his past flashes, Charlie cannot be that strong of a swimmer given that he drowned saving Clarie, whereas Desmond saved her without too much trouble.

So I guess Charlie could've lied about his swimming ability...but yet he did (barely) make it into TLG alive. I wonder if he just lied, or if there is more to it?

See ya'll tomorrow.

Morning LoCos! I enjoyed the episode, but didn't wake up in the middle of the night with OMG or WTH thoughts are questions thankfully.

I recently read Alice Through the Looking Glass and have a few things on it to get ready for next week. The basic idea is that there's a world inside a mirror and that everything in it looks like our world at least as far as you can see from our side of the mirror except backwards. Once you get beyond what you can see from our side of the mirror you find their world is a giant chess board and the goal is to move 8 (a number) spaces so that you the pawn can become a 3rd queen.

Along the way you encounter various other pawns as well as the rest of the chess pieces. For example, Tweedledee and Tweedledum were white rooks. The only chess piece I don't recall Alice encountering was the White King. I don't know what that might mean.

There are 2 interesting things though in the book that could well apply to LOST. The first comes with Alice's encounter with the White Queen. The White Queen says that they live backwards and that as a result their memories work both ways meaning she remembers both things that have past and things that will come to pass. In other words, they are not enslaved by time. To further illustrate this the Queen has a screaming fit because she's going to prick her finger, then she pricks it and doesn't bother to scream then because she already has.

Relevance to LOST? Maybe Desmond's flashes work more this way than forward. Also I really think Ben lives un-enslaved to time which is why he's so far ahead of everyone. Maybe he's living backwards. This sort of plays into that whole one of the LOSTies is Ben's parent scenario as well.

The second thing is this statement made by Humpty Dumpty. "When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean--neither more nor less."

Is this what the Others mean by good? No more nor less than they choose it to mean when they use it? This could easily explains Ben's facility with the truth or his version of it as well. I'm not a liar because the word liar means what I choose it to mean.

I said there was only 2 things, but there's 2 more small ones. First to get anywhere in Looking Glass land you have to go the opposite way. If you go toward something you end up back where you started, not where you intended to go. Maybe that explains why only people not looking for the Island seem to arrive there, with the possible exception of Naomi. Maybe this is how the Others have become un-enslaved to space by using this paradox of going the opposite way you want to go.

And finally, this story like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a dream, though Alice thinks it might be her kitten's dream, not her own, thus LOST is clearly all a dream in Vincent's head.

Questions -- if the DS ring belonged to Liam and he gave it to Charlie because he was such a screw-up, then shouldn't Charlie have given it back to him Australia? After all it looked at that point that Liam, not Charlie, would be the one that would live past 30.

Does anyone know if Kate's tent was on the tents that was marked?

Since Alex wants Karl to save them, why does she still call Kate and Sawyer, Austen and Ford?

Is Rose officially the only person who likes Jack better now that he's back at the camp?

memphish said...

Here's another good question from Lostpedia: Will Desmond's flashes end now that he has been hit in the head with a paddle again? That would make sense I suppose.

memphish said...

How many times can I post before someone else shows up? :)

From The Tail Section about the Season 3 DVDs:
Season three will be released later than the previous box sets, possibly late September. The rumor is that the box set will include three extras disks! One will be the typical extras disk, another is something that is supposed to help Lost fans pass the time (?) and the third will contain a demo of the LOST video game from UBISoft.
